Revenge Of The Fired: Indian Ex-Employee Hacks Singapore Firm, Wipes Critical Data

An Indian national, Kandula Nagaraju, 39, was sentenced to two years and six months in jail for unauthorized access to computer material, during which he deleted 180 virtual servers, causing his employer a loss of SGD 918,000 (USD 678,000).

Another charge was considered during Kandula’s sentencing. He was “upset” after being fired by NCS in October 2022 for poor performance, with his employment ending on November 16, 2022.

From November 2021 to October 2022, Kandula was part of a 20-member team managing the quality assurance (QA) computer system at NCS, which provides information communication and technology services. The system, used to test new software and programs before launch, consisted of about 180 virtual servers that did not store any sensitive information.

Channel News Asia reported that Kandula felt “confused and upset” upon being fired, believing he had performed well and “made good contributions” to NCS during his tenure.

After his termination, Kandula returned to India without securing another job in Singapore. From there, he used his laptop to gain unauthorized access to NCS’s system using administrator login credentials on six occasions between January 6 and January 17, 2023.

In February, Kandula returned to Singapore after finding new employment. He rented a room from a former NCS colleague and used their Wi-Fi network to access NCS’ system once on February 23, 2023.

During these unauthorized accesses, Kandula wrote scripts to test their ability to delete the servers. In March 2023, he accessed NCS’ QA system 13 times. On March 18 and 19, he executed a script to delete all 180 virtual servers, designed to remove the servers one by one.

The next day, NCS discovered the system was inaccessible. After troubleshooting, they realized the servers had been deleted. A police report was filed on April 11, 2023, with IP addresses from the internal investigation provided to the authorities.

The police seized Kandula’s laptop, finding the deletion script used. Investigations showed that Kandula had searched Google for scripts to delete virtual servers, which he then adapted.

Knowing he was unauthorized to access the system after his employment ended, Kandula’s actions resulted in a loss of SGD 917,832 for NCS.

Earthquake Magnitude 4.5 Strikes Afghanistan, NCS Reports

An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter Scale struck Afghanistan on Wednesday, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The earthquake’s epicenter was located at Latitude 35.30 and Longitude 69.30, with a depth of 250 kilometers, according to the NCS.

The NCS stated, “An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 occurred on 01-05-2024 at 16:03:52 IST, with a location at Lat: 35.30 & Long: 69.30, and a depth of 250 Km in Afghanistan.” Further information is pending.

Strong earthquake tremors felt in Delhi

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) on Tuesday said an earthquake of 5.8 magnitudes hit Nepal with strong tremors being felt across Delhi and surrounding areas.

“An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Nepal at 2:28 pm today,” National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.

Meanwhile, for 15 seconds the quake lasted, and people shared the video of their homes and offices.

Moreover, Nepal was the quake’s epicenter at a place 148 km east of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.

However, due to the earthquake, no reports of damage were caused or reported.

Earthquake of 4.5 magnitude jolts Tajikistan

Earthquake of magnitude 3.5 jolts Guwahati

The National Center for Seismology on Thursday said an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale hit the Guwahati district. A 3.5 magnitude earthquake was measured northeast of Guwahati at 12:27 PM (local time). “An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred 62km northeast of Guwahati, at around 12:27 pm, today. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground,” National Center for Seismology said.

Earthquake of magnitude 3.1 hits Uttarkashi

Earthquake tremors in Uttarkashi at 1:50 am early on Monday of 3.1 magnitude.

According to the National Center of Seismology, “An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occured 24 km ESE of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand at around 1:50 am. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km below the ground.”

Earthquake felt at Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba

The National Center for Seismology on Saturday said a 3.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba.

Meanwhile, the earthquake occurred at 12:38 and the depth of the earthquake was 5 km below the ground.

Earlier on 16 November, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

Earthquake of 4.3 magnitude hits Afghanistan

The National Center for Seismology on Wednesday said a 4.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the earthquake occurred at 9:37 and the depth of the earthquake was 200 km below the ground.

Moreover, an earthquake of 5.4 magnitudes struck parts of the Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan on 7 November.

The Taliban head of Information and Culture for Badakhshan province Moizuddin Ahmadi informed about the earthquake and said, the earthquake occurred at Badakhshan in the Jurm district and the earthquake depth was 103 kilometers.

Earlier on Wednesday, an earthquake of magnitude 6 on the Richter scale struck 186 kilometers west-northwest of Turkey’s Ankara at 4:08 am.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) informed that in the earthquake 35 people were injured in Turkey’s northwestern Duzce province and are undergoing treatment in the hospitals.

However, Fahrettin Koca tweeted, “In the 5.9 magnitude earthquake centered in Duzce, Golyaka, felt in many cities; According to current information, the number of injured is 35, including 32 in Duzce, 1 in Istanbul, 1 in Bolu, and 1 in Zonguldak. The treatment of the injured in our health institutions continues.”

Arunachal Pradesh: Earthquake of 5.7 magnitude hits West Siang

Earthquake of 4.4 magnitudes jolted Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The National Center for Seismology on Saturday said a 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On Saturday early morning the earthquake occurred at 6:43 AM.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 03-09-2022, 06:59:58 IST, Lat: 12.02 & Long: 93.62, Depth: 70 Km, Location: 106km ENE of Portblair, Andaman and Nicobar island, India”.

Meanwhile, the epicenter of the earthquake was 106 Kilometers in the North-Northeast (NNE) of Diglipur.

Earlier on Friday, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake jolted Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The earthquake occurred at 12:43 PM.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.9, Occurred on 02-09-2022, 12:43:03 IST, Lat: 14:11 and Long: 93.49, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 108km NNE of Diglipur, in Andaman and Nicobar island, India,” NCS said.

J&K: Two earthquakes of 4.1 and 3.2 magnitudes hit Katra

The National Center for Seismology said within one hour two earthquakes occurred in Katra of magnitude 3.2 and 4.1 on Wednesday night.

Informing about the first earthquake NCS tweeted, “An earthquake of Magnitude:4.1, Occurred 62 km ENE of Katra, Jammu, and Kashmir, at around 11:04 pm today. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km below the ground.”

Earlier on Wednesday, at 11:52 PM the second earthquake occurred and its depth was 5 km below the ground.

“Another earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred 60km E of Katra, Jammu, and Kashmir, at around 11:52 pm on August 24th. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km below the ground,” NCS tweeted.

J&K: Earthquake of 3.9 magnitudes earthquake hits Katra

The National Center for Seismology on Tuesday said a 3.9 magnitude earthquake jolted Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra. In the early morning at 2.20 AM, the earthquake occurred.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.9, Occurred on 23-08-2022, 2:20:32 IST. Lat: 33.07 and Long: 75.58, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 61km E of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir,” tweeted NCS.

Earthquake of 5.2 magnitudes earthquake hits Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow

The National Center for Seismology on Saturday said a 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolted north-northeast of Lucknow. In the early morning at 1.12 AM, the earthquake occurred.

“Earthquake of magnitude:5.2 occurred on 20-08-2022, 01:12:47 IST, Lat: 28.07 and Long: 81.25, Depth: 82 Km, Location: 139 km NNE of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh,” tweeted the National Center for Seismology.

Meanwhile, on Friday the National Center for Seismology said a 3.1 magnitude earthquake jolted South Southwest of Jammu and Kashmir’s Hanley.

Taking to Twitter, NCS informed, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.1, occurred on 19-08-2022, 12:02;14 IST, Lat: 31.89 & Long: 78.67, Depth: 5 Km, Location: 92km SSW of Hanley, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

Earlier on Friday, in the Pithoragarh area of Uttarakhand, an earthquake of 3.6 magnitudes on the Richter Scale was felt.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.6, Occurred on 19-08-2022, 12:55:55 IST, Lat: 29.96 & Long: 80.12, Depth: 5 Km, Location: 43km NNW of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand,” the NCS tweeted.

However, the earthquake occurred at 12:55 pm.

Earthquake of 4.8 magnitude jolted Manipur’s Moirang

The National Center for Seismology on Sunday said a 4.8 magnitude earthquake jolted Manipur’s Moirang at 11:42 PM on Saturday.

Taking to Twitter, NCS informed, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.8, occurred on 16-07-2022, 23:42:48 IST, Lat: 24.25 & Long: 94.37, Depth: 94 Km, Location: 66km ESE of Moirang, Manipur, India.”

The disaster’s epicentre was reported to be 94 km which occurred on Saturday in the East-Southeast of Moirang, Manipur.

On July 5 in Assam, a Richter scale 3.7 magnitude earthquake occurred at 11:03 am. The depth of the quake was 35 km.
