The victim’s father filed a complaint, leading to the arrest. Police await forensic reports as investigations into the suspected murder continue.
</excerpt>

A gay relationship between a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old in Mumbai has ended in tragedy, it has been reported, with the younger teenager allegedly murdered after his boyfriend spiked a soft drink with poison.

The charge came from the father of the victim, which resulted in the arrest of the 19-year-old suspect, NDTV reported. Police have stated they are now waiting for forensic reports to move ahead with the investigation.

Details of the Incident

Based on police sources quoted by NDTV, the father of the victim, in his complaint, told that his son had stepped out of their house for a walk on June 29 but didn’t come back home that evening. The family started looking for him.

During the search, a friend informed the family that the 16-year-old had visited the accused’s house after leaving home. When the family arrived at the residence, they found the teenager lying on a bed with the 19-year-old sitting beside him. Despite their attempts to wake him, the teen did not respond. A doctor was called, who confirmed that he had died.

How was the Teen Poisoned

Investigations showed that upon arrival at the accused’s residence, the victim was given a soft drink. He started vomiting a short while later and eventually died, as indicated by police reports.

The father of the victim also alleged in his complaint that the accused, some four months ago, had taken his son to Nagpur without informing members of the family. When the boy returned, his parents cautioned him against meeting the accused and discontinued all contact.

Subsequently, the victim allegedly ceased all contact with the 19-year-old, which angered the latter. The police said the accused then plotted the murder. On the day of the attack, he invited the teen over and purportedly served him the tainted drink.

The tenant, who left the flat spotless, has now filed an FIR and plans legal action.
</excerpt>

A Reddit user recently recounted their ordeal with a landlord in Navi Mumbai after vacating a rental flat just four months into a one-year lease. Despite strictly following the agreement terms and ensuring the apartment was left in pristine condition, they are now battling to recover their full security deposit.

In a Reddit thread, “Are all Mumbai landlords crackheads?”, the user described, “So here’s the deal. I had rented a flat in Navi Mumbai and signed a 1-year agreement. But because of some personal reasons, I had to vacate after 4 months. There was no lock-in period in the agreement, so I kept the rules in mind and served a valid 1-month notice, as mandated.”

Prior to leaving, the user was diligent about returning the apartment in great condition. “Prior to leaving, I even had the place professionally deep cleaned and repainted any walls that needed it,” they explained, saying this was done “just to hand the flat back in the best condition possible, the same as when I first got it.”

Even after that, real trouble started over the security deposit. They had paid Rs 40,000 initially but upon vacating, only Rs 20,000 was given back. “Now here comes the circus. I had paid Rs 40,000 as security deposit when I shifted in. After vacating, I’ve been politely and repeatedly following up for more than a month, and this guy has only given Rs 20,000 till now,” they posted.

The landlord’s reasons left the user agog. “Now comes the circus. I had paid Rs 40,000 as a security deposit when I shifted in. After vacating, I’ve been politely and repeatedly following up for over a month, and this guy has only returned Rs 20,000 so far,” they shared. According to them, the landlord claimed he had to pay Rs 10,000 to a new broker and hadn’t recovered money from his previous agent. “So I’m expected to cover his losses. Like… what??” the user added.

Are all mumbai landlords crackheads ??
byu/Working_Hovercraft76 inmumbai

Angered, they complained, “I already paid a full month’s brokerage when I took in… why would I be held responsible for his internal disarray of agents? I done my part of the deal, left the unit in pristine condition, and provided him with proper notice. And now I’m getting punished for effectively nothing?”

They ended their post with the statement, “Honestly, the business sense of some landlords here is mind-boggling. They spend the deposit like it’s their bonus kitty. And to top that his audacity to send me an emoji on serious text,” also including screenshots of their WhatsApp conversations with the landlord.

Other Users Share Similar Frustrations

The post soon gained steam, with many commenting about their own experiences. One noted, “If there was no lock in period in agreement he cannot penalise you post-facto.” Another stated, “I swear to God, dealing with owners for deposit is just crazy and frustrating AF. I gave notice as part of the agreement but still after a month not yet received the deposit. I hate dealing with these entitled**.”

A commenter noted, “Most landlords in Mumbai are obnoxious and very much unreasonable. They mostly have connections with the brokers. This scamful duo is always looking to scam the tenant.”

In the meantime, one person suggested reading over the lease carefully: “Please read your rent contract once and see what it says, if there is a 6-month lock-in, and it is clearly stated what happens if you vacate earlier than 6 months, he is entitled to retain the deposit…and if nothing was stated then you are bound to get it back. Now in general speaking if I am leasing out my property I would retain 6 months locked-in and in case the tenant stay is solely short term, I would hike the rent by 10-15 per cent.”

Not one to let the issue lie, the Reddit user also added that they have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the landlord and are going to send a legal notice via their lawyer friend.

Although he had requested it be discarded after death, she hopes to preserve their lineage. The court has stayed disposal.
</excerpt>

A unusual and emotionally charged legal case has arisen in Mumbai, in which a mother is battling to use her late son’s frozen sperm to become a grandmother.

The unmarried man had decided to freeze his semen before he started chemotherapy. He had signed a consent form, though, indicating that if he died, the sample must be destroyed.

Following his death earlier this year, his mother went to the fertility clinic where the semen was being kept and asked them to transfer it to an IVF centre in Gujarat for possible use in assisted reproduction, a news agency PTI report said.

The fertility clinic, nevertheless, rejected the request. They referenced the man’s clear directive to dispose of the sperm after his death and referred to the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, that needs legal sanction in such delicate situations to prevent ethical and procedural lapses.

Mother Moves Bombay High Court

Not ready to agree with the clinic’s denial, the mother submitted a petition in the Bombay High Court. According to her, her son signed the consent form without consulting his relatives, and she feels the semen sample must not be discarded. She wants to use it to maintain their family bloodline and have grandchildren.

Acting on the appeal, the court granted an interim order on June 25 directing the fertility clinic to retain the frozen sample pending hearing of the case in its entirety on July 30.

The judge noted that the case raises serious legal and ethical questions under the ART Act, specifically on the disposition of stored genes after the death of the donor.

Mumbai Police, alerted by the owner, have initiated legal proceedings against the accused.
</excerpt>

In a deeply troubling incident from Versova, Mumbai, a domestic worker was captured on CCTV viciously beating a pet dog inside a building elevator. The horrifying video, now viral on Instagram, shows the man using a leash to hit the dog and kicking the helpless animal as they exited the lift. The footage sparked outrage online and has prompted swift legal action.

The dog belongs to Shriyansi Jain, a resident who was devastated to learn that her trusted servant had assaulted her pet in such a cruel manner. Sharing her pain, Shriyansi said, “This is not just about my dog; it’s about all voiceless animals who can’t speak for themselves. </excerpt>

Mumbai Police have registered a case against a 27-year-old man from Dongri for allegedly sexually exploiting a 28-year-old woman doctor, coercing her into an abortion, and threatening to circulate private photos.

Met Through Dating App

According to police, the woman, who works at a hospital in Andheri, met the accused on a dating app in 2023. They engaged in consensual sex, during which the accused secretly took intimate photos of her.

In February 2024, the accused allegedly forced her to undergo an abortion, without her consent.

Betrayal and Threats

The woman later discovered that the man had become engaged to another person and began avoiding her. Realizing she had been misled under the pretext of marriage, she filed a complaint at the MIDC Police Station, leading to an FIR being registered on Thursday.

Charges Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for:

Forcing abortion without consent

Criminal intimidation

Violation of privacy

Cheating and other offences

“No arrests have been made yet. Further investigation is underway,” a police official confirmed.

Note to Readers

This case highlights the growing risks of digital and emotional exploitation through online platforms. Authorities urge users to remain cautious and report abuse or coercion immediately.

</excerpt>

Heavy rains continued to batter Mumbai and its suburbs, producing extensive waterlogging in low-lying areas and crippling transport services. The rain has not only caused traffic congestion but also disrupted local train and metro rail services throughout the city.

Mumbai saw an average of 95 mm rain in the 24 hours till 8 am on Monday, as per civic authorities quoted by PTI. The eastern suburbs got 58 mm and the western regions 75 mm. The rain toll since the start of the month has now risen to 18 dead and 65 injured, officials confirmed.

IMD Alerts Issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cloudy weather and heavy rain in scattered parts of Mumbai and its suburbs for the next 24 hours. An orange alert has been called out for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar with a warning of heavy to very heavy rain. While Raigad district has been put under a red alert in case of extremely heavy rain, particularly in the ghat parts of Pune and Satara for the next 16 hours.

High Tide and Low Tide Timings

Mumbai is likely to witness a high tide of 4.21 metres at 3:31 pm on Monday, and another one at 3.44 metres at 3:31 am on Tuesday. It is likely to witness low tides of 1.86 metres and 1.33 metres at 9:41 pm on Monday and 9:10 am on Tuesday, respectively.

Local Train and Metro Services Affected

train services on both the Central and Western Railway lines were delayed Monday morning. Commuters delayed their travels from 20 to 30 minutes.

The Mumbai Metro operations were also affected, and it was mainly seen on the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova line. A plastic cover torn from a construction site near Azad Nagar station fell on the overhead wires, causing a temporary suspension of services in the afternoon.

“The services are normal now. Heavy winds caused a plastic sheet from one of the under-construction sites to fly on to the overhead wire along the Azad Nagar Metro station, suspending train services,” Mumbai Metro One tweeted on X.

Airlines Issue Travel Advisories

Flight operations too were affected because of unfavorable weather conditions. IndiGo airlines also urged customers to pre-estimate extra travel time and monitor their flight status prior to traveling.
In its advisory on X, IndiGo stated, “Heavy rains are still ongoing in Mumbai, while road conditions are slow in many areas of the city. Waterlogging and low visibility are reported on some airport routes.”
SpiceJet also released a similar travel alert for guests traveling into and out of the city.

The IMD recorded 295 mm rain at Colaba, breaking the 1918 record, and issued red alerts for several regions.
</excerpt>

Mumbai saw a record weather phenomenon on Monday, May 26, 2025, when the city received its heaviest rainfall in more than a century on the first day of the monsoon season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the onset of monsoon happened a complete 16 days prior to schedule, which is the earliest over Mumbai in the last 75 years.

“Southwest Monsoon has proceeded towards Mumbai today, 26th May 2025, against the usual date of advance, 11th June. Hence, the monsoon has reached Mumbai 16 days ahead of schedule. This is the earliest monsoon advance over Mumbai from 2001–2025,” the IMD asserted in an official release.

Historic Rainfall Record Broken

The rain shower not only indicated the monsoon’s onset—it broke a century-and-a-half-old record. Figures with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), quoted by The Indian Express, indicate that South Mumbai localities received more than 200 mm of rain between midnight and 11 a.m. alone.

The Colaba weather station, in fact, received 295 mm of rain—beating the old record of 279.4 mm on May 1918.

According to a PTI report, regional rain gauges measured by the IMD reported the following levels from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday:

Colaba: 105.2 mm

Santacruz: 55 mm

Bandra: 68.5 mm

Juhu Airport: 63.5 mm

Chembur: 38.5 mm

Vikhroli: 37.5 mm

Mahalaxmi: 33.5 mm

Sion: 53.5 mm

Monsoon Timeline Shifted

The IMD pointed out that this year’s onset of monsoon was on May 26, as against the average date of June 11. In 2024, the rain had set in on June 6.

“Southwest monsoon made onset over Mumbai on May 26. This is the earliest onset in last 75 years,” IMD scientist Sushma Nair told PTI.

Red Alerts Issued Across the Region

As the rains continued, the IMD upgraded Mumbai’s status from an ‘orange’ alert to a ‘red’ alert, indicating the likelihood of more extreme weather. Red alerts were also announced for Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts.

Simultaneously, IMD issued warnings for other states as well. “Southwest Monsoon has further penetrated into some additional areas of central Arabian Sea, some additional areas of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Karnataka including Bengaluru, remaining areas of Tamil Nadu, some areas of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, some additional areas of westcentral & North Bay of Bengal, Remaining areas of Mizoram, entire Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, some areas of Assam and Meghalaya, on May 26,” IMD said.

</excerpt>

In a tragic accident in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar locality on Sunday, a 28-year-old man saved an eight-year-old girl who had slipped into a street drain but drowned while trying to climb out himself. The man, Shahzad Shaikh, a labourer who takes daily wages, showed exemplary bravery and selflessness in saving the child but went on to lose his life in the attempt.

Girl Child Fell While Retrieving Ball

As per the officials at the Pantnagar Police Station, the accident took place while the little girl was trying to pick up a ball which had fallen into the open drain. In the process, she fell into the water channel by mistake and was unable to climb back out because of its depth and slippery nature.

When she cried for assistance, Shahzad Shaikh was just walking by. Immediately, he dove into the drain to save her. Eyewitnesses report that Shaikh was able to reach the child in a matter of seconds and safely handed her over to another witness hovering around the drain opening.

Rescuer Could Not Escape

But as soon as the girl was out, Shaikh could not climb out of the drain by himself. The water-filled, narrow, and slippery space of the drain restricted him from moving freely. Within a few minutes, he allegedly got stuck and drowned before anyone could reach him to rescue him.

Very soon, a group of firefighters and local police personnel reached the spot. Rescuers took Shaikh to a nearby hospital, but the doctors refused to treat him as he had already died.

Police Start Probe

The authorities have filed an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in relation to the incident. A formal probe is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and ascertain whether negligence on the part of civic infrastructure was the cause of the tragedy.

Shaikh’s gallant act has evoked a mix of sadness and respect throughout the city.

</excerpt>

Of the 272 civil defence sirens installed across Mumbai, just 39 are in working condition, say officials at the Maharashtra Home Guard and Civil Defence. This emerged as the city is preparing for a massive civil defence drill in the wake of heightened national security alert after the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

On Tuesday, officials checked all the sirens in Mumbai and verified that only 39 were operational. These sirens will be tested today in all 24 BMC wards in a drill to assess readiness for a possible war-like situation. The drill will include about 10,000 volunteers and trained staff who will inform citizens about emergency responses and evacuation procedures.

The siren system, installed between 1965 and 1993, included 421 units across Maharashtra 272 in Mumbai and others in Thane, Pune, Nashik, Uran, and Tarapur. Today, only 15 sirens remain functional outside Mumbai. Despite the dwindling numbers, officials aim to maximise awareness through today’s exercises.

Each siren produces a loud noise with three lights showing alert levels, yellow (warning), red (danger), and green (all clear). Citizens will be instructed on how to act during each stage, such as taking cover and helping rescue teams. Volunteers will also assist in moving homeless people to temporary shelters.

Maharashtra’s Director of Civil Defence, Prabhat Kumar, stressed the value of public coordination during emergencies. The Public Works Department (PWD) is responsible for maintaining the sirens.

The exercise does not stop with Mumbai, but similar drills will be conducted across all 244 Civil Defence districts in India. The aim is to check operational preparedness, coordination, and public response at the grassroots level, involving Home Guards, NCC, NSS, NYKS, and students.

These exercises are a reminder to revive India’s civil defence infrastructure in the face of changing security threats.

Authorities increased patrols, involved cybercrime experts, and coordinated efforts with Delhi police for preventive measures.
</excerpt>

Mumbai police have ramped up security measures across the city after receiving a social media warning about possible communal violence, arson, and bomb blasts during Eid on March 31 and April 1. The message specifically mentioned potential incidents in Dongri, allegedly instigated by “illegal Rohingya, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani infiltrators.”

According to reports from news agency PTI, the warning was flagged by the Navi Mumbai police after the message was posted on social media, tagging their official handle. Upon being alerted, Mumbai police took immediate action, intensifying security in key locations, increasing patrolling, and deploying additional personnel from the Crime Branch, the Anti-Terrorism Squad, and the special branch. So far, no suspicious activity has been reported.

Cyber Cell Investigates Source of Threat

The cyber cell has launched a technical investigation to trace the individual responsible for the social media warning. The Navi Mumbai police responded to the message by requesting the sender’s contact details for further verification and inquiry.

Similar Warning Issued to Delhi Police

The same person reportedly issued a similar warning to the Delhi Police and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, claiming that illegal immigrants could trigger riots or bomb blasts in Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, and Jahangirpuri during Eid. The message also tagged the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh police, though neither department has publicly responded to the warning yet.

Delhi Police had already intensified security measures for Eid celebrations and the last Friday prayers in the eastern district. Authorities have ensured that additional forces are patrolling sensitive areas, and strict monitoring is in place to maintain law and order.

The authorities continue to assess the credibility of these warnings while urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

A devastating accident occurred in Mumbai’s Nagpada area on Sunday, where five contract workers lost their lives while cleaning a water tank at an under-construction building. Despite rescue efforts, they succumbed to suffocation inside the tank.

Fire Brigade Rushes Workers to Hospital, but They Could Not Be Saved

As soon as the workers collapsed inside the tank, their colleagues at the construction site immediately alerted the fire brigade. Rescue teams arrived quickly, pulled the unconscious workers out, and rushed them to JJ Hospital. However, despite emergency medical efforts, doctors declared them brought dead upon arrival, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Workers Lost Consciousness Inside the Water Tank

The tragedy took place around 12:30 PM at the Bismillah Space building on Dimtimkar Road. According to a fire department official, all five workers entered the water tank for cleaning but soon became unresponsive due to lack of oxygen or toxic fumes inside. Their prolonged exposure likely led to suffocation, making it impossible for them to escape on their own.

Authorities Launch Investigation into the Incident

Following the tragic deaths, officials from the BMC and local police reached the site to assess the situation. A police officer confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine what went wrong. Authorities are expected to examine safety protocols, possible negligence, and whether the workers were provided with proper protective gear before entering the tank.

Concerns Over Workplace Safety

This incident has raised serious concerns about workplace safety at construction sites, particularly when it comes to hazardous cleaning tasks. He left a suicide note uploaded to his company’s website, holding them responsible for his death.
</excerpt>

A 41-year-old man, Nishant Tripathi, died by suicide in Mumbai’s Sahara Hotel, allegedly due to harassment from his wife, Apoorva Parikh, and his aunt, Prarthana Mishra. Before taking his life, Tripathi checked into the hotel three days earlier and hung a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign outside his room. He also wrote a letter, which he uploaded to his company’s website, holding his wife and aunt responsible for his death.

The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Tripathi’s wife and aunt on charges of abetment to suicide, but no one has been arrested so far. Tripathi was discovered hanging in the bathroom after hotel staff opened his room with a master key, after a long period of non-response. His body was taken for post-mortem, and the airport police were informed.

While investigating, the authorities found a suicide note posted on Tripathi’s business website. He mentioned loving his wife but held both his wife and aunt responsible for his death in the note. “Hi babe, by the time you read this, I’ll be gone. In my last moments, I could’ve hated you for everything that happened, but I don’t. For this moment, I choose love. I loved you then. I love you now. And as I had promised, it’s not going to fade,” Tripathi wrote in his last message to his wife. He continued, “My mother knows that among all the other hardships I endured, you and Prarthana Mausi [aunt] are also to blame for my death. So, I beg of you, don’t go to her now. She’s shattered enough. Let her mourn in peace.”

Neelam Chaturvedi, Tripathi’s mother, posted her sheer sorrow on social media, saying, “Friends, I am Neelam Chaturvedi. You see me as a living being, but in reality, I am already dead. I am a living corpse today.” She talked about how close she and her son were, saying, “My son, Nishant. He was my everything. Both my children loved me very much, but Nishant was my friend, my companion, and my biggest support. He was my strength, the source of my energy to live and work. My life is over now.”

Chaturvedi also said that she had devoted her life to the struggle for women’s rights, gender equality, and so on. She had supported more than 46,000 women through initiatives such as Sakhi Kendra, obtaining justice for over 37,000 and empowering thousands with jobs and training. She also brought up her children by herself and is proud of that.

After her son’s death, Chaturvedi filed a complaint at the Airport Police Station. Initially, an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was registered, but after the mother’s complaint, a case was filed against Tripathi’s wife and aunt under Section 108 of the Indian Penal Code.

Besides their contribution to the ecology, flamingos have drawn inspiration for city ventures. The New Palm Beach in Navi Mumbai, a luxury residential complex, takes cues from the serenity and beauty of these birds. The scheme looks to combine contemporary aspirations with the tranquility of nature, and provide an untethered conjunction of urban convenience and peacefulscapes.

Amazon’s Investment in Mangrove Restoration

In a significant conservation effort, Amazon is set to invest $1.2 million to restore mangrove forests and mudflats—key feeding grounds for Mumbai’s iconic flamingo population.

Through a partnership with Hasten Regeneration, a social enterprise dedicated to ecosystem restoration, the initiative will support mangrove plantations in Gujarat and clean-up efforts along Thane Creek’s settlements.

The money is sourced from Amazon’s $100 million Right Now Climate Fund, which supports global programs that deal with climate resilience, biodiversity, and conservation.

The controversy sparked outrage, with netizens and political leaders condemning the statements.
</excerpt>

A complaint has been registered in Mumbai against well-known social media personalities Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as ‘BeerBiceps,’ and Apoorva Mukhija, popularly called ‘The Rebel Kid,’ along with comedian Samay Raina. The complaint alleges the use of ‘abusive language’ on their show, India’s Got Latent. The show’s organizers have also been named in the case. The complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, demanding strict action against those involved.

Controversial Episode Sparks Backlash

The controversy arose after an episode featuring Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Mukhija on Raina’s show. During the discussion, Allahbadia posed an inappropriate ‘would you rather’ question related to intimate relationships involving a contestant’s parents. The clip quickly went viral, drawing heavy criticism from social media users who called out the distasteful remark.

Political Reactions and Public Outrage

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the controversy when questioned by reporters. He acknowledged the issue, stating, “I have come to know about it but have not seen it yet. Freedom of speech exists, but it ends when it infringes on others’ rights. If societal norms are violated, action should be taken.”

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also condemned the remarks, calling them “perverse” and emphasizing that such behavior should not be normalized under the guise of creativity.

Social Media Backlash

Netizens widely criticized the incident, with one user commenting, “Freedom of speech is a double-edged sword. Sadly, it sometimes allows mediocrity and shock value to pass as content.” Another wrote, “This is neither comedy nor adult humor; it’s sick perversion!” Some users suggested that the incident exposed Allahbadia’s true nature, claiming his “mask had slipped.”

Creators Remain Silent

Despite the mounting criticism, neither Ranveer Allahbadia, nor the other content creators involved have made any statements regarding the controversy.

Award-Winning Creator Now in Controversy

Ranveer Allahbadia was previously honored at the National Creators Award held at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented him with the ‘Disruptor of the Year’ award. However, the recent backlash has now placed him at the center of a major controversy.

His journey inspires many to reconsider small-town living.
</excerpt>

Five years ago, Sumit Agrawal, a career coach, left a high-paying job in Mumbai to return to his hometown, Jamshedpur. What initially seemed like a leap into the unknown has turned out to be a transformative journey, offering a fresh perspective on work-life balance and quality of life.

Overcoming Initial Doubts

Having grown up in Jamshedpur, Sumit found the transition to fast-paced cities like Hyderabad and Mumbai daunting. When he decided to move back, apprehensions filled his mind.

“Thoughts like, ‘Will I have a social life?’, ‘What will weekends look like?’, and ‘Will the work environment be fulfilling?’ kept me up at night,” he revealed. However, the smaller-town lifestyle surprised him with unexpected benefits, reshaping his outlook entirely.

Five Reasons Jamshedpur Became the Perfect Choice

1. Stress-Free Commute
Sumit’s daily commute underwent a remarkable transformation. “I no longer spend 20-25% of my day in traffic. My 14-km office journey takes just 15 minutes, making me more productive and less irritable,” he shared.

2. Lower Living Costs
One of the most significant perks was the financial relief. “My expenses dropped substantially while maintaining a lifestyle comparable to that of a metropolitan city,” Sumit explained.

3. Affordable Convenience
From food delivery to e-commerce services, Jamshedpur offers urban amenities at a fraction of the cost. “Whether it’s cabs, events, or multiplexes, everything is budget-friendly without compromising convenience,” he said.

4. Peaceful Public Spaces
Unlike the crowded streets of Mumbai, Jamshedpur’s serene environment has made outdoor activities more enjoyable. “I no longer hesitate to step out on weekends due to overwhelming crowds,” he noted.

5. Time for Fitness
With fewer distractions and more manageable schedules, Sumit now enjoys ample time for fitness and sports—a luxury he rarely experienced in Mumbai.

Social Media Applauds His Choice

Sumit’s story resonated deeply with netizens, sparking conversations about the advantages of life in smaller towns.

One user commented, “This is so relatable! Smaller towns offer peace that big cities can’t match.” Another wrote, “I’ve been contemplating moving back to my hometown, and this story just solidified my decision.”

While some debated the trade-offs, others praised his choice, calling it “inspiring” and “practical.” Sumit’s journey underscores the possibility of finding success and fulfillment beyond the fast-paced chaos of urban life.

</excerpt>

As the clock struck midnight on December 31, the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in Mumbai became alive with a sound that has become a unique part of the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. The station, a crucial hub in Mumbai’s bustling railway system, echoed with the synchronised honking of train car sheds and locomotives, marking the arrival of 2025. For many commuters, this distinctive sound was more than just a noise—it was a long-standing tradition capturing the spirit of Mumbai’s railway heritage.

A Unique Tradition

Social media quickly buzzed with videos and posts from commuters who were keen to capture the event, with some marveling at the collective display of sound. Many shared their surprise about this custom, unaware of the tradition that has been associated with CST for years. One user took to X (formerly Twitter), pointing out that the honking practice was not confined to the city, as sea vessels also observe a similar tradition.

“There’s a reason we’re known for our honking,” joked one user, humorously commenting on the noise-filled streets of India that often frustrate drivers.

A Nod to the 90s

Interestingly, a few users reminisced about how the honking tradition was even more widespread during the 90s, with trains in transit also contributing to the midnight symphony. This evocative nod to the past highlights how the practice has been ingrained in Mumbai’s culture, growing in popularity over time.

Railway Enthusiasts Behind the Magic

According to reports, the tradition owes its origin to the tireless work of railway enthusiasts who have been coordinating the synchronized honking event for several years. The event, now eagerly anticipated by both rail fans and the public, adds a touch of nostalgia and unity to the New Year’s celebrations at CST.

A Festive Atmosphere at CST

On the night of December 31, the atmosphere at CST station was charged with excitement, with commuters, bystanders, and railway staff joining in the festivities. The synchronised honking became a spectacle for all to witness, with crowds gathering on platforms, footbridges, and nearby areas. It was a moment of shared joy and enthusiasm as people from all walks of life came together, celebrating not only the new year but also Mumbai’s rich railway heritage.

This tradition at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is a testament to the city’s unique cultural blend, where the old meets the new in the most delightful and unexpected ways. As 2025 dawns, the sound of honking trains has once again brought Mumbai’s railway community and its people closer together, offering a sense of belonging and a shared moment of celebration.

</excerpt>

A Mumbai techie accused a Rapido driver of abusing and threatening her after she refused to pay an extra charge. Ohshin Bhat shared screenshots of the driver’s offensive messages on X, drawing attention to the incident.

Ohshin claims that she had booked a ride through Rapido under the ‘Economy’ category but was assigned a Premium vehicle. Economy rides, which are usually cheaper, use hatchbacks instead of the sedans offered in the Premium category. However, the driver, who had listed his cab in the Economy category to attract more bookings, demanded additional payment.

When Ohshin refused to pay the additional charge, the driver asked her to cancel the ride and resorted to abuses and threats. “Cancel kar do varna pel dunga khade khade (Cancel the ride, or I will beat you up),” he reportedly told her. He further abused her, calling her a “Bhikhari ki aulad (Child of a beggar).

As Ohshin declined to engage, his attitude became worse. “Saste me chahiye paidal ja (Walk if you want to save money), ” the driver said. Later the driver canceled the ride by himself. Ohshin finally booked an Uber ride from the place.

</excerpt>

A tragic accident occurred off the Mumbai coast on Wednesday afternoon when a Navy speedboat collided with a passenger ferry, resulting in the deaths of 14 people. The collision took place near Karanja, Mumbai, at approximately 4 pm, as the ferry, Neel Kamal, was en route from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island.

Among the victims was the aunt of Gaurav Gupta, a vegetable vendor from Nalasopara in Palghar district. Gupta had taken his relatives, including his aunt, for a ferry ride following his wedding, unaware that it would be their last trip together.

Survivor Accuses Navy Speedboat Driver of Recklessness

Gupta, a survivor of the crash, disputed the Navy’s claim that the incident was caused by an engine failure. He described the driver of the Navy speedboat as “showing off” and said the boat was moving erratically, zigzagging through the water as many passengers, including himself, recorded videos of the speedboat’s manoeuvres. Gupta explained that the boat’s driver appeared to be performing a stunt when it suddenly veered toward the ferry.

“He was in a playful mood, zigzagging through the waters. Suddenly, he turned the speedboat and headed directly towards us. He must have thought he could pass by narrowly, but his stunt ended in tragedy,” Gupta recalled.

Panic and Sinking After the Collision

Initially, Gupta did not realise the severity of the situation, as one of the occupants from the speedboat was thrown onto the ferry. However, it soon became apparent that the ferry was sinking. Gupta mentioned that many passengers aboard the ferry were not wearing life jackets, adding to the confusion and panic after the crash.

He also questioned the Navy’s version of events, pointing out that if there had been any technical issue with the speedboat, the passengers would not have appeared so calm before the collision. He concluded that the crash was due to the driver’s reckless actions, rather than any mechanical failure.

The incident has raised concerns about safety measures and the responsibility of operators on the water, especially as the Navy’s speedboat was undergoing engine trials at the time. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, with both the Navy and local authorities looking into the event.

Rescue efforts are currently in progress, involving the Mumbai Police, Indian Navy, Coast Guard, JNPT, and local fishing vessels. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, there were 85 people on board, including crew members. Of this total, 80 passengers have been rescued, while five are still unaccounted for. Five individuals have been hospitalized in critical condition, while the remaining are in stable health.

The Neelkamal ferry was en route to Elephanta Island, a popular tourist spot, when a speedboat was reported to have circled it before colliding with the ferry, as shown in a viral video.

The search and rescue operations are being organized by the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Police, with 11 Navy boats, three Marine Police boats, and one Coast Guard vessel actively engaged. Furthermore, four helicopters have been sent for Search and Rescue (SAR) efforts to find the missing passengers.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave an update in the state assembly in Nagpur, stating that the search is still ongoing for seven to eight missing passengers. He explained that the ferry capsized after a speedboat, allegedly from either the Navy or the Coast Guard, veered out of control and struck the ferry.

But despite the rejection, the teen’s achievements tell a story of a future so bright that he could celebrate great milestones in his entrepreneurial journey along with the rejection.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kushwah shared his day of mixed emotions. While receiving a rejection email from Stanford, he also recorded 2 million online impressions, attracted over 2.2 lakh users to his analytics platform, and secured a $10,000 grant from Emergent Ventures—all within 24 hours.

“Tough loss but gotta come back stronger. Thanks that I got to attempt. Thanks that I feel lousy about the loss. All good things come in God’s good glory,” Kushwah posted on his social media about this whole incident.

Watch:

bittersweet day

rejected from Stanford, hit 220k total users, hit our first 2 million impression day, $10k emergent grant got approved.

tough loss but gotta come back stronger.

grateful I had the opportunity to apply, grateful I felt badly about the loss.

all in God’s glory. pic.twitter.com/R5nQfhZipJ

As expressed by Richard H. Shaw, the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Stanford, “I am very sorry to let you know we are unable to offer you admission to Stanford,” stated in his rejection email. He underlined the thoughtful consideration given to the application, adding, “We were inspired by the hopes and dreams your application represents. We were humbled by the talent, commitment, and heart you bring to your academics, extracurricular activities, work, and family responsibilities. In simple terms, we wish we had space in the first-year class.

Shaw further said that the decision was not easy and explained Stanford’s policy does not have a way to appeal it and effectively closes the door for this cycle.

Although the rejection was disappointing, Kushwah is optimistic about his future. His entrepreneurial ventures include creating ’90nine’, which he describes as “India’s largest student-led internet journalism and publishing agency,” and the Mumbai Debate Society. His efforts brought in recognition and financial support via this fellowship grant, so victory is not so far for him.

The updates of Kushwah, in dual terms, represent both the struggles and triumphs of his journey, highlighting the resilience needed to turn obstacles into opportunities.

</excerpt>

Days after a tragic BEST bus accident in Mumbai’s Kurla claimed seven lives, another fatal incident occurred in the Govandi area, where a 25-year-old man was run over by an electric bus, police reported.

The accident happened late Saturday at the Shivaji Nagar junction in Govandi. The victim, identified as Dikshit Vinod Rajput, was riding his motorcycle at the time of the mishap, according to ANI.

A police official stated that Rajput sustained a severe head injury and was immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The electric buses involved in the incident are operated by the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking on a lease basis.

The 39-year-old bus driver, Vinod Aabaji Rankhambe, and the conductor, Avinash Vikramrao Gite, have been arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act, as per NDTV. Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation into the incident is underway.

Bus accident in Kurla

Earlier this week, a tragic accident involving a BEST bus claimed the lives of seven people and left 42 others injured along SG Barve Marg in Kurla West. The bus, over a stretch of 100 meters, collided with 30 to 40 vehicles before crashing into the RCC column of the Solomon Building, breaking its compound wall, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The driver, 54-year-old Sanjay More, was arrested after losing control of the vehicle while operating route A322 from Kurla Station to Sakinaka.

The vehicle involved in the accident was a 12-meter-long electric bus manufactured by Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech, leased by BEST on a wet-lease arrangement.

During police interrogation, More revealed he was uncomfortable operating the bus’s automatic transmission, which he had been assigned on December 1.

A preliminary assessment report from Regional Transport Officers (RTO) submitted two days later confirmed there was no technical fault with the bus. However, the report highlighted that More had not received adequate training for the electric bus. He had completed only three training sessions provided by the wet-lease contractor, falling short of BEST’s standard operating procedure, which mandates six weeks of refresher training for drivers transitioning from manual to electric buses.

This lack of proper training contributed to the tragic mishap, which cost seven lives.

BEST resumed services in the Kurla West area on Friday, following the incident.

Musical Tribute to Lord Ayyappan

To celebrate the completion of his pilgrimage, Aditya performed a soulful rendition of ‘Kanni Ayyappan,’ a devotional song dedicated to Lord Ayyappan.
