New Delhi had raised concerns over the treatment of deportees, prompting Washington’s assurance.
</excerpt>

The government of India told Parliament on Friday that the United States has assured it that none of the women and children were restrained in flight during the deportation to India last month

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had already complained to US authorities about the reported use of shackles by deportees, mostly women, on a flight that arrived in India on February 5. In reprisal, Washington promised that “no women or children were restrained on the deportation flights that landed in India on February 15 and 16 respectively.”

India Questions US Deportation Practices

The issues were taken up by the Indian government while answering questions posed by Rajya Sabha member John Brittas, who had asked if New Delhi had officially requested the US administration to avoid handcuffing or shackling deportees.

“The US ICE authorities organise and execute deportations as per the Standard Operating Procedure, effective from November 2012, which provides for the use of restraints on deportees. The US side has mentioned that restraints are used to ensure the safety and security of deportation missions on both chartered civilian aircraft as well as military aircraft. While women and minors are generally not shackled, the flight officer in charge of a deportation flight has the final say on the matter,” the government replied.

Increasing Numbers of Indian Deportees

A total of 388 Indian deportees have landed back in India since January 2025, following US President Donald Trump ordering an executive mandate requiring all illegal immigrants to be removed with effect from that month.

In the past month, a US military plane carried 104 deported Indian citizens from San Antonio, Texas, to Amritsar. Utilizing a C-17 military plane for deportation purposes attracted attention and raised questions regarding the handling of deportees.

Uncertain Data on Indian Illegal Immigrants in the US

The government of India has admitted that no official estimate is available of Indian passport holders now living illegally in the US. Yet, as per the estimates of the Pew Research Center data, there live in the US around 725,000 undocumented Indian immigrants, ranking them the third-largest immigrant group after Salvadorans and Mexicans. The Migration Policy Institute estimates the figure at nearly half this number, underlining discrepancies between available data.

While the US continues to accelerate deportations, the Indian government continues to negotiate with US officials to ensure equitable treatment of its citizens during repatriation.

The fund has since been canceled, with Trump calling it a “kickback scheme.”
</excerpt>

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has taken serious objection to information issued by the US administration about USAID’s recently canceled $21 million funding for voter mobilization in India. The MEA said that the issue is being looked into by concerned authorities.

We have seen information that has been put out by the US administration regarding certain USA activities and funding. These are obviously very deeply troubling. This has led to concerns about foreign interference in India’s internal affairs. Relevant departments and agencies are looking into this matter. It would be premature to make a public comment at this stage, so relevant authorities are looking into, and hopefully we can come up with an update on that subsequently,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday.

Trump Calls USAID’s India Funding a ‘Kickback Scheme’

Ex-US President Donald Trump has caused controversy with claims that USAID’s $21 million funding was to sway India’s elections. At the Republican Governors Association conference in Washington, DC, Trump slammed the use of US taxpayers’ money for India’s voter mobilization efforts.

“$21 million for voter turnout in India. Why are we caring about India turnout? We got enough problems. We want our own turnout,” Trump stated. He also described the money as a “kickback scheme,” implying that the funds were not going to their intended use.

Elon Musk’s DOGE Report Reveals USAID’s Indian Spending

The controversy broke out after the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, revealed that USAID had allocated $21 million to India’s Election Commission to increase voter turnout. The news was part of a list published by DOGE on February 16, which stated where US taxpayer money was being spent. DOGE also verified that all these expenditures had been terminated.

Allegations of Foreign Interference in India’s Elections

Trump’s comments have set off a political controversy over possible foreign meddling in India’s democratic process. In addressing the matter, Trump implied that the funding was aimed at influencing electoral outcomes.

Why are we spending $21 million on Indian voter turnout? I guess they were attempting to get someone else into office. We’ve got to let the Indian Government know. This is a complete breakthrough,” Trump told the audience in his televised address, as broadcast by NBC News.

Indian Authorities Examining the Matter

The Indian government has taken cognizance of these allegations and is evaluating their significance. The MEA has promised that agencies are reviewing the issue closely and will keep the public informed when the time is right. The controversy occurs at a time when India is preparing for critical elections, which makes any foreign involvement charges especially sensitive.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) verified on Friday that PM Modi will embark on a major diplomatic trip to France and the United States starting on February 10 and ending on February 13. Following an official working trip to the United States from February 12 to 13, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the Prime Minister will first visit France from February 10 to 12.

France Visit: AI Summit and Strategy Bilateral Meetings

Foreign Secretary Misri said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in France from 10 February to 12 February 2025 at the request of French President Emmanuel Macron. This trip coincides with the Artificial Intelligence Summit, at which PM Emmanuel Macron will co-chair the AI Action Summit with President Macron. ”

PM Modi will arrive in Paris on February 10, attend a dinner at the Élysée Palace hosted by President Macron, and join top tech CEOs and international dignitaries. He will co-chair the AI Action Summit on February 11, therefore highlighting India’s growing part in worldwide AI management. Misri stressed, “After comparable events in the United Kingdom (2023) and South Korea (2024), this is the third high-level summit of this kind.”

India will be highlighting the ethical, responsible, and inclusive application of AI technologies at the AI Summit. The PM Modi and President Macron will also visit a CEO Forum and have high-level diplomatic meetings. Both heads will have a bilateral dinner in Marseille later that evening.

After visiting a war cemetery in Marseille and launching the new Indian consulate on February 12, the Prime Minister will travel to Washington.

US Visit: High Stakes Discussions with President Trump

PM Modi will leave France for Washington on February 12-13 for an official working visit. Scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump, he will discuss vital matters including trade, defense partnerships, and economic cooperation. The trip coincides with current worldwide debates about American tariff and immigration policies.

PM Modi will also be at a state dinner thrown by President Trump, therefore becoming the second world leader—after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—to meet Trump once he takes office.

Conference of Tesla CEO Elon Musk

PM Modi is planning to meet Tesla CEO Elon Musk during his US trip; Musk is currently very active in talks on India’s electric vehicle industry. Having previously shown interest in increasing Tesla’s market share in India, Musk has advised the Trump administration.

PM Modi’s consecutive diplomatic meetings in France and the US highlight India’s expanding global presence in technology, commerce, and strategic alliances.

India continues to work with Russian authorities for their safe return.
</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs gave an update on Friday regarding the Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army during the war with Ukraine. According to MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the whereabouts of 16 individuals remain unknown. The Russian Government has classified them as “missing.”

16 Indian Nationals Missing, 12 Confirmed Dead

As of January 17, the MEA verified that 126 Indian nationals were reported to be serving in the Russian military. Of them, 96 Indian nationals have returned to India, and their discharges from the Russian Armed Forces are already confirmed. However, there are 18 Indians still on duty, with 16 Indians yet to be contacted. Sadly, 12 Indians have lost their lives while in the Russian Army.

“We are working very actively on getting them released and brought back home, especially those whose whereabouts are not known,” Jaiswal said during a media briefing.

Death of Binil TB and Other Injuries Update

The MEA’s update comes after the reported death of Binil TB, a man from Kerala who had been serving in the Russian Army. Binil, originally from Thrissur, died while fighting for Russia in the Ukraine conflict. The tragic news was made public by his relative earlier this week. Additionally, another Indian national from Kerala sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment in Moscow.

“The death of Binil Babu is highly unfortunate. We have condoled the death to his family. Our embassy is coordinating with the Russian authorities to make sure that the mortal remains are brought back to India immediately. The injured one is undergoing treatment in Moscow. We hope he comes back soon.

India Pushes for Early Discharge of Indian Nationals in Russian Army

India has called on Russia to release all Indian nationals recruited into the Russian military. Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue during his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July of the previous year. The Indian government has continued pressing the Russian authorities to hasten the discharge of these nationals.

Legal intricacies and diplomatic caution drive India’s stance.
</excerpt>

Following reports of an extradition request from Dhaka’s interim government, India has extended the visa of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The decision, approved by the Ministry of External Affairs, comes amidst escalating tensions over Hasina’s political status and legal challenges in Bangladesh. This development comes hours after Bangladesh’s new interim government revoked the passport of Sheikh Hasina and 96 others, citing their alleged involvement in the July unrest and enforced disappearance of many protestors.

B’desh Revoke Passport of Hasina

Hours before the visa extension, Bangladesh’s new interim government revoked Sheikh Hasina’s passport, along with 96 others, citing alleged involvement in the July unrest and enforced disappearance of protesters. Two days earlier, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh issued an arrest warrant for Hasina, demanding her appearance by February 12.

India Views Extradition Request as Legal, Not Diplomatic

Bangladesh’s interim government sent a diplomatic note (note verbale) seeking Hasina’s extradition. However, Indian officials emphasized the legal intricacies involved in extraditing a political leader to an interim government. According to sources, completing formalities and assessing legal aspects could take months, as well as explaining the decision to extend Hasina’s visa.

Political Asylum Unlikely

Despite granting the visa extension, India is unlikely to officially grant Sheikh Hasina political asylum due to the absence of specific laws addressing such cases. However, officials hinted at a cautious approach, emphasizing a thorough review of the extradition request.

Dhaka’s Pressure Tactics?

Major General Fazlur Rahman, chair of Bangladesh’s National Independent Commission of Inquiry, warned of possible interrogation in India if Hasina is not extradited. However, Indian officials see these developments as pressure tactics by Dhaka.

The Foreigners Regional Registration Office processed the visa extension, reportedly under the guidance of the Ministry of External Affairs. India will respond to Bangladesh’s note verbale “in due time,” signaling no immediate action.

This strategic delay aligns with India’s position of carefully navigating diplomatic and legal dimensions while maintaining regional stability.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday dismissed media reports claiming that US prosecutors had issued summons for Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and other executives in connection with an alleged bribery case.

In a media briefing held in the national capital, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India has not received any official request from the United States regarding summons or arrests.

“This is a legal matter involving private firms and individuals and the US Department of Justice. There are established procedures and legal avenues in such cases which we believe would be followed. The Government of India was not informed in advance of the issue, and we haven’t had any conversation about this matter with the US government,” Jaiswal said.

He emphasized that any request from a foreign government for the service of a summons or arrest warrant falls under mutual legal assistance, which is examined on its merits. “We have not received any request on this case from the US side. This is a matter that pertains to private entities, and the Government of India is not legally a part of it in any manner at this point in time,” he added.

Reports of the summons emerged after a five-count criminal indictment was unsealed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, which allegedly charged prominent Indian executives, including Gautam Adani, in connection with a bribery and fraud scheme.

On November 27, the Adani Group refuted the bribery allegations made by the US Department of Justice

On November 27, the Adani Group refuted the bribery allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani, and MD CEO of Adani Green Energy, Vineet Jaain, in a filing with the stock exchanges.

In its filing, Adani Green Energy Ltd. described the media reports on the alleged bribery and corruption charges against its executives as “Incorrect.” The statement clarified that “media articles which state that certain of our directors, namely Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani, and Vineet Jaain, have been charged with violation(s) of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) in the indictment are incorrect.”

The filing further noted that the DOJ indictment, which includes five counts, does not mention Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani, or Vineet Jaain in Count One: “Conspiracy to Violate the FCPA,” nor do their names appear in Count Five: “Conspiracy to obstruct justice.”

</excerpt>

Amid a diplomatic row, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) revealed on Thursday that Canada has not acted on 26 pending extradition requests related to members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a group linked to multiple high-profile crimes in India. These extradition requests, made over the past decade, also include individuals facing terror charges. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that despite repeated attempts, the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has not addressed India’s “core concerns.”

Canada’s Reluctance to Act on Extradition Requests

During a press briefing, Jaiswal criticized Canada’s inaction on the extradition of Lawrence Bishnoi gang members. He pointed out that the gang, known for its criminal activities across several Indian states, has been involved in a number of violent incidents, including the recent murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique. “They haven’t taken any action on our core concerns. There is a political motive also behind this,” Jaiswal said, highlighting Canada’s reluctance to cooperate on India’s security-related concerns.

Trudeau’s Allegations of Indian Diplomatic Involvement

These remarks came a day after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau testified before a public inquiry into foreign interference, claiming that Indian diplomats were collecting information on Canadians opposed to the Narendra Modi government. Trudeau also alleged that this information was passed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, further straining diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had previously alleged that the Bishnoi gang had ties to Indian government agents, specifically targeting “pro-Khalistani elements” in the South Asian community in Canada. These accusations have added to the ongoing tension between India and Canada over their respective handling of diplomatic and criminal issues.

In March 2023, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a 128-page chargesheet against Lawrence Bishnoi and 15 others under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The NIA described Bishnoi as a powerful figure in India’s criminal underworld, leading a 700-member criminal enterprise. The chargesheet detailed how his syndicate, with 300 members from his home state of Punjab, formed alliances with pro-Khalistan elements to secure sophisticated weapons and invest in terrorism-related activities.

The NIA reported that Bishnoi’s empire is linked to over 84 criminal cases across states such as Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi. His syndicate is also accused of running extortion rackets and using proceeds to fund terrorism, further complicating the international extradition requests.

The ongoing diplomatic standoff between India and Canada is further exacerbated by these allegations and the lack of action on the extradition requests. India continues to push for the arrest and extradition of Bishnoi gang members while accusing Canada of harboring individuals connected to criminal and terrorist activities.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India stated on Thursday that Canada has failed to act on requests related to the arrest of members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, despite India’s insistence on addressing “core concerns.” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that New Delhi had shared specific requests with Canadian authorities but has seen no action taken.

Jaiswal also suggested there may be a political motive behind Canada’s inaction, asserting that the Indian government has repeatedly expressed its concerns regarding the Bishnoi gang. He stated, “They haven’t taken any action on our core concerns. There is a political motive also behind this.”

Response to Trudeau’s Allegations

The MEA’s comments come after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau acknowledged that he had no “hard evidentiary proof” to support his claims regarding Indian government agents’ involvement in the murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Trudeau claimed there were “clear indications” that India had violated Canadian sovereignty but admitted that he relied on intelligence rather than concrete evidence.

In response, Jaiswal reiterated that Canada has not provided any evidence to support the allegations against India regarding Nijjar’s murder. He stated, “We reject false imputations against our diplomats,” emphasizing that since September 2023, the Canadian government has not shared any information with India.

Canadian Diplomatic Concerns

Trudeau also testified before a public inquiry into foreign interference, alleging that Indian diplomats had been monitoring Canadians who oppose the Narendra Modi government and passing this information to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Following these allegations, Canada communicated that Indian diplomats were considered “persons of interest” in the Nijjar murder case. This prompted India to withdraw its diplomats from Canada and expel Canadian officials from India.

Call for Evidence from Canada

Jaiswal concluded by reaffirming India’s stance on the matter, stating, “Canada has presented us no evidence whatsoever in support of the serious allegations that it has chosen to level against India and Indian diplomats.” He reiterated India’s request for concrete proof in response to the allegations made by Canada.

India Accepts Pakistan’s Invitation for SCO Summit

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed India’s participation, stating, “EAM Jaishankar will lead a delegation to Pakistan to participate in the SCO summit.” The announcement followed a formal invitation extended by Pakistan in August for India’s attendance at the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting.

In a media briefing on August 30, Jaiswal acknowledged the invitation from Islamabad but refrained from providing details at the time, saying, “We don’t have an update on that. We will let you know what the situation is later.”

Recent History of High-Level SCO Engagements

This visit follows Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s attendance at the SCO meeting in Goa in May 2023, marking the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to India in six years. The upcoming summit in Islamabad will be another significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations under the SCO framework.

The SCO, a permanent intergovernmental international organization, was established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai by founding members China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan joined the group in 2017, and Iran became a full member in 2023.

Currently, the SCO has nine member states, three observer states (Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Belarus), and 14 dialogue partners, including countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, and Nepal. The 2022 Samarkand SCO Summit initiated the process of raising Belarus’ status to that of a full member.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a strong statement condemning comments made by Iran’s Supreme Leader regarding the treatment of minorities in India. The MEA described the remarks as “misinformed and unacceptable.”

The statement came in response to Iran’s Supreme Leader, who allegedly made observations about the condition of minorities in India. The Indian government expressed its disapproval, advising countries to reflect on their own records concerning minority treatment before making judgments about others.

The MEA’s firm stance highlights India’s sensitivity to external comments on its internal affairs, particularly those related to the treatment of minorities. The statement underscores India’s position that other countries should not interfere or comment on its domestic issues without understanding the context and complexities involved.

The MEA also emphasized that India’s constitution and democratic framework provide robust safeguards and protections for all communities. It reiterated that India values its cultural diversity and is committed to ensuring the welfare of all its citizens, regardless of their religious or ethnic background.

This development marks a significant moment in diplomatic relations between India and Iran, as it brings attention to the intricate balance of addressing minority rights while respecting national sovereignty. The MEA’s response serves as a reminder of India’s insistence on managing its internal matters without unsolicited external commentary.

Current Situation in Bangladesh

On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) advised Indians living in Bangladesh to stay indoors and limit their movements. This advice comes in response to ongoing nationwide protests against the Bangladeshi government’s job quota system.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared this message on social media, emphasizing that the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and assistant high commissions are available to help Indian nationals in Bangladesh through their helpline numbers.

Key Points from the Advisory:

Stay Indoors: The Indian High Commission has advised all Indian citizens and students in Bangladesh to avoid unnecessary travel and stay inside their homes.

Reason for Advisory: The advisory is due to widespread violence and protests across the country. Demonstrations have been intense, with government buildings being set on fire and a nationwide internet blackout imposed by the Sheikh Hasina government.

Details of the Protests

Number of Casualties: At least 39 people have been killed this week, with 32 deaths occurring on Thursday alone.

Injuries: Over 2,500 people have been injured during the protests.

Protest Focus: The demonstrations are centered around the job quota system that reserves more than half of government jobs for specific groups, including children of war veterans from the 1971 liberation war against Pakistan.

Historical Context: In 2018, PM Sheikh Hasina had decided to end this reservation system following protests, but in June of this year, the Bangladesh High Court overturned that decision. The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for August 7 to review the government’s appeal.

Recent Developments:

Student Protests: University students have been protesting in the capital city, Dhaka, demanding changes to the quota system.

Government Response: The police and student wing members of Hasina’s Awami League party have clashed with protesters, using rubber bullets, tear gas, and noise grenades.

Damaged Property: On Thursday, protesters set fire to the state broadcaster’s building after PM Sheikh Hasina appeared on the network to address the protests.

Advice for Indian Citizens in Bangladesh

Follow Local Advisories: The MEA and the Indian High Commission advise Indians in Bangladesh to follow local safety advisories.

Contact for Help: Indian nationals can reach out to the High Commission for assistance through the provided helpline numbers.

Indian authorities are advising citizens and students in Bangladesh to stay indoors due to a violent nationwide strike against the government’s job quota system. The situation has led to significant unrest, with numerous casualties, injuries, and a nationwide internet blackout. Indian nationals can reach out to the Indian High Commission for assistance during this challenging time.

Issuing the media queries on the mention of J&k in China Pakistan joint references, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘We have noted unwarranted references to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the joint statement between China and Pakistan of 07 June 2024….We categorically reject such references. Our position on the issue is consistent and well-known to the concerned parties.

Further MEA also added that ‘union territories of J&k and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India.’

Talking about the China Pakistan economic activities under CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor), whose some of the area falls under India’s occupied territory, the MEA emphasized, they reject such moves, which legitimizes Pakistan’s illegal occupation of these territories.

The Joint statement on J&k said that ‘The Pakistani side briefed the Chinese side on the latest developments of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
S Jaishankar, the current foreign minister entering his second term, has outlined the priorities of the Modi-led NDA government’s third tenure. He emphasizes a focused effort on resolving border disputes with China and addressing long-standing cross-border terrorism issues with Pakistan.
Furthermore, Jaishankar underlines India’s intended role as a global ally in a turbulent world, aiming to position the nation as a trusted partner on the international stage. Reflecting on the Ministry of External Affairs’ achievements in the previous term, including navigating challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and executing humanitarian missions such as Operation Ganga and Operation Kaveri, Jaishankar expresses confidence in the MEA’s ongoing effectiveness.

His reappointment to lead the MEA comes amid a distinguished diplomatic career, featuring pivotal roles such as India’s foreign secretary and ambassadorial positions in key nations. With a focus on people-centric initiatives and enhancing India’s global presence, Jaishankar’s tenure underscores the government’s dedication to advancing the nation’s interests globally.

As a seasoned diplomat and author, Jaishankar’s contributions to India’s foreign policy are anticipated to guide the country’s path in navigating complex geopolitical landscapes and fostering strategic partnerships.

</excerpt>

India strongly condemned pro-Khalistan activists in Canada for displaying an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in chains during a parade, urging the Justin Trudeau government to halt its support for criminal and secessionist elements.

The Indian side emphasized concerns for the security of Indian diplomats in Canada, demanding that Ottawa ensure they can fulfil their duties without fear. This incident marks a further deterioration in bilateral relations, strained since Trudeau accused Indian government agents of involvement in the killing of a Khalistani leader last year.

Pro-Khalistan elements escalated their anti-India provocation by featuring an effigy of Modi in chains and a cage at a Khalsa Day parade in Malton, Greater Toronto Area. The parade also saw Khalistan flags and separatist slogans. India expressed strong concerns about the “violent imagery” used by extremist elements in Canada against its political leadership.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s call for Canada to stop providing a safe haven to criminal and secessionist elements, recalling a float depicting the assassination of former premier Indira Gandhi last year. India remains worried about the security of its diplomatic representatives in Canada and expects the government there to ensure their safety.

Jaiswal emphasized that democratic societies should not tolerate the celebration or glorification of violence, urging countries to uphold the rule of law. Despite India’s repeated calls for action against pro-Khalistan elements, Canadian officials have cited freedom of expression, frustrating Indian efforts.

The parade’s float was organized by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), designated a terrorist entity by India, linking it to Trudeau’s recent comments on Canada’s commitment to protecting all citizens. Trudeau’s remarks followed the arrest of three Indian nationals in connection with the killing of pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The parade occurred after Trudeau addressed a similar event amid pro-Khalistan sentiments. SFJ plans a “Citizens Court of Canada” to probe Nijjar’s death, scheduled for June 18.

The government affirmed its commitment to complete the replacement of military personnel before the specified date.

Previously, the Maldives government under Mohamed Muizzu formally requested India to withdraw its troops from Male. Both nations’ foreign ministries stated that they discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including development and defence cooperation.

They expressed satisfaction with India’s progress in replacing military personnel stationed at the last of the three aviation platforms by May 10, ensuring logistical arrangements proceed smoothly. Additionally, they agreed to hold the fifth High-Level Core Group meeting in Male during June or July.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced that the initial batch of Indian personnel in the Maldives had been substituted with technical personnel. Both countries have collaborated on viable solutions to sustain the operation of Indian aviation platforms that provide humanitarian and medical evacuation services to Maldivian citizens.

The MEA confirmed the deployment of the first batch of Indian technical personnel to replace defence personnel in the Maldives. India and Maldives have already conducted two high-level core group meetings, with the third anticipated soon.

The withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives was a key campaign promise of Muizzu’s party. Currently, approximately 70 Indian troops, along with Dornier 228 maritime patrol aircraft and two HAL Dhruv helicopters, are stationed in the Maldives.

</excerpt>

Canadian authorities have arrested individuals allegedly involved in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated as a terrorist by India, last June, as reported by CBC News. The investigation is also looking into potential connections between the alleged assailants and three other homicides in Canada. Authorities are expected to provide further details shortly. Nijjar was fatally shot outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18.

CBC’s report suggests that the detained individuals might be part of a purported assassination squad sanctioned by the Indian government, an allegation India consistently denies. In September 2023, India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, reiterated that the Indian government did not endorse such actions.

According to CBC, the arrested men entered Canada on temporary visas after 2021 and are purportedly affiliated with Lawrence Bishnoi, a detained gangster in India accused of orchestrating the killing of singer Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022.

Court documents, cited by CTV News, identify the arrested individuals as Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karan Brar, charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

These arrests occur against the backdrop of strained relations between India and Canada. Last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested Indian government involvement in Nijjar’s assassination, a claim India vehemently denies.

Earlier this month, a purported video depicting Nijjar’s killing emerged, showing armed assailants shooting him outside a Gurdwara in Surrey. Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was gunned down in what was described as a meticulously coordinated attack involving six individuals and two vehicles.

Tensions persist in India-Canada relations, with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemning pro-Khalistan slogans voiced at a public event attended by Trudeau on May 2. The ministry underscored Canada’s tolerance towards separatism, extremism, and violence, which not only impacts bilateral relations but also fosters an environment of lawlessness detrimental to its citizens. During Toronto’s Khalsa Day Celebrations, pro-Khalistan chants were audible in the presence of Trudeau and opposition leader Pierre Poilievre.

</excerpt>

The External Affairs Ministry has denied that an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) staffer was involved in the purported plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in the United States, as reported in The Washington Report.

MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the US media claim as “speculative and irresponsible” on Monday, calling it a “unwarranted and unsubstantiated” imputation on a “serious matter” that is under investigation.

What Happened?

As per the US’s report, it was claimed that a member of RAW Vikram Yadav had allegedly directed a hit squad to assassinate this American-based separatist.

It further suggested that this mission was allegedly approved by then chief of India’s intelligence agency Samant Goel.

The report also emphasized that Yadav was later re-inducted in CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) after this claimed assassination bid came to light last year.

However, the MEA also highlighted, that India is already conducting its investigation into the security concerns that the US government raises. As tweeted by the spokesperson, there is already a high-level committee set up by the Indian government to look into the matter, and also added, that speculative & irresponsible comments are not helpful at all.

The Investigation

Meanwhile, the white house has stated, that India is taking the allegations regarding the Pannun matter seriously. But it has refrained from commenting on the FBI’s investigation into the case.

Addressing the media, secretary of the white house Karine Jean-Pierre, said that the investigation is still ongoing, as the Department of Justice is conducting a criminal probe. Also, she reiterated the seriousness of the matter and took cognizance of India’s commitment to the probe.

Earlier, the US justice department arrested an Indian national Nikhil Gupta who had been charged with attempted murder of Pannun. As per America’s justice department, the anonymous Indian government employee had allegedly recruited Nikhil to kill this prominent khalistani figure.

Later she added that America will continue to raise the matter directly with the Indian government and expects accountability.

About Gurpatwant Singh Pannu

A prominent figure of the Khalistan movement, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu is a legal advisor and a spokesperson for the Sikhs for Justice organization (which was declared unlawful association in 2019) Later he was designated as a terrorist in the year 2020.

He is famously known for Punjab Referendum 2020. And running a campaign for the release of Jagtar Singh Hawara who is serving life sentence in the killing of Beant Singh-the former chief minister of Punjab.

</excerpt>

India issued a strong rebuttal to China for its comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, affirming that the northeastern state will always be “an integral and inalienable part of India.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that China’s objection to visits by Indian leaders or India’s developmental projects “does not stand to reason.”

“We reject the comments made by the Chinese side regarding the visit of the Prime Minister to Arunachal Pradesh. Indian leaders visit Arunachal Pradesh from time to time, as they visit other States of India. Objecting to such visits or India’s developmental projects does not stand to reason,” said MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

“Further, it will not change the reality that the State of Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Chinese side has been made aware of this consistent position on several occasions,” the spokesperson added.

During Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin’s Regular Press Conference on March 11, he said that China “strongly deplores and firmly opposes” Prime Minister Modi’s visit to “East Section of the China-India boundary” and has raised concerns with India.

PM Modi on March 9 had virtually inaugurated the strategic Sela Tunnel during an event held in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The tunnel has been constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at an altitude of 13,000 feet on the road connecting Tezpur, Assam to Tawang in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh near the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

China, which claims Arunachal Pradesh as South Tibet, routinely objects to Indian leaders’ visits to the state to highlight its claims. Beijing has also named the area as Zangnan.
