</excerpt>

Israel carried out a series of airstrikes against Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah early on Monday morning, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported. This followed evacuation warnings from the Israeli military for various strategic sites along Yemen’s Red Sea coast.

In a late Sunday statement, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) military spokesperson Avichay Adraee, addressing the Arabic-speaking public, threatened that the IDF would strike locations engaged in hostile operations. He cited the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif, as well as the Hodeidah power plant, as target locations within the near future.

The spokesman said these areas were being utilized for military activities, wherefore the attack decision was made. Al-Masirah TV said explosions were heard throughout Hodeidah province, but there were no reports of immediate casualties or destruction.

The escalation constitutes a major development in the local tensions that have widened since the Gaza conflict started. The Houthis, who are Iran allies, have conducted several missile and drone strikes against Red Sea shipping routes in recent months under the pretext of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel still has not made an official confirmation of the strikes. Nevertheless, tensions still run high, and more military action might exacerbate instability in the already war-scarred region.

Fatwa follows 12 days of nuclear strikes and missile retaliation. Iran warns of more action amid rising religious tensions.
</excerpt>

A top Iranian cleric escalated the Iran and Israel conflict by issuing a fatwa against Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, calling them “warlords.” A 12-day military confrontation had already inflicted serious damage on Iran’s nuclear sites and prompted Iran to launch missile strikes on Israeli cities.

The cleric urged Muslims worldwide to take action against the two leaders.

Cleric Labels Trump and Netanyahu as ‘Warlords’

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi issued the fatwa and directly declared both Trump and Netanyahu as enemies of the Islamic world. In his ruling, he stated, “Those who threaten the leadership and integrity of the Islamic Ummah are to be considered warlords.” Furthermore, he emphasised that anyone who challenges the unity of Islam must be labelled a “mohareb,” or one who wages war against God.

According to Iranian law, authorities punish moharebs with execution, crucifixion, or exile. Shirazi concluded his statement with a prayer, asking God to protect the Ummah from these “enemies” and hasten the arrival of the Mahdi, a messianic figure in Shiite Islam.

Notably, the fatwa closely mirrors the infamous 1989 order against author Salman Rushdie, which sparked years of attacks and assassination attempts. Most recently, in 2023, an assailant stabbed Rushdie in New York, leaving him blind in one eye.

Iran and Israel Conflict

The Iran and Israel conflict intensified over 12 days. Israeli and American forces carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. On June 13, Israeli airstrikes hit key nuclear and military facilities in Iran. Reports say the strikes killed scientists and senior commanders.

In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles at several Israeli cities. This move escalated the crisis further. A week into the conflict, the United States joined the offensive. US forces struck three more Iranian nuclear facilities. At the same time, Trump warned Iran against enriching uranium to weapons-grade levels.

He said the US would respond with more military force. Shortly after this exchange, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi issued his fatwa. The decree raised the religious and political stakes even higher.

World leaders warn of rising tensions and call for diplomacy.
</excerpt>

In response to US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear installations, there are numerous world leaders who have warned of dire repercussions should the situation develop. In its first direct intervention in Israel’s war with Tehran, the US military launched attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on Sunday.

Leaders Condemn US Airstrikes

Iran strongly condemned the strikes. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the attacks “outrageous” and warned they would have “everlasting consequences.” He called the strikes “lawless and criminal,” and said Iran has the right to defend itself under international law. Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation called the operation “barbaric” and promised that its nuclear work would continue.

China also criticised the strikes through its state media. CGTN called the attack “a dangerous turning point” and warned that the US might be repeating mistakes like the Iraq war. China urged Washington to choose diplomacy instead of risking more conflict in the region.

The United Nations expressed serious concern. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the conflict could get out of control, with “catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world.” He called for diplomacy and urged all countries to help de-escalate the crisis.

Fears of Escalation Spread

Israel supported the strikes. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called President Trump’s decision “historic,” saying, “Your bold decision will change history.” He said this action fulfilled Israel’s long-standing goal of weakening Iran’s nuclear program.

On the other hand, Hamas called the strikes “blatant aggression” and a violation of international law. Saudi Arabia said it was watching the situation closely. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer recognized the nuclear threat but urged Iran to return to talks, stressing that diplomacy was necessary to avoid further instability.

In the US, Democrats criticized Trump’s decision. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries called it unconstitutional and reckless, saying Trump is fully responsible for any consequences. Leaders from New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Australia also urged calm, warning that further conflict could lead to a much bigger crisis.

</excerpt>

U.S. President Donald Trump decided to leave the G7 Summit early and return to Washington on Monday night, according to CNN. The summit was being held in Kananaskis, Canada.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared the update on social media. She wrote, “President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.”

Initially, Trump had planned to leave Canada on Tuesday after a press conference. However, he changed plans as tensions between Israel and Iran increased.

Trump Warns Tehran to Evacuate

Just before his departure was announced, Trump posted a strong message on Truth Social. He wrote, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” The post came during a rise in military action in the region.

In other posts, Trump repeated his warnings about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. He wrote, “Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again!”

He added, “AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Explosions Follow Trump’s Warning

After Trump’s post, Iranian media reported explosions and air defense activity in Tehran. However, it remains unclear whether these events were connected to his message.

At the time of the post, it was around 2 a.m. in Tehran, a city with a population of 10 million. The wider metropolitan area includes about 17 million people.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military claimed full control over Tehran’s airspace. They began expanding their targets beyond military and nuclear facilities. For example, Israeli forces bombed Iran’s state television headquarters.

Israel Issues Civilian Evacuation Orders

The Israeli army issued evacuation orders for several civilian neighborhoods in Tehran. This included the area near Iran’s state TV offices. These zones are densely populated, with hundreds of thousands of people living there.

So far, it is unknown how many people have been able to leave or if a large-scale evacuation is possible on such short notice.

Trump Sees Possibility for Talks

Just hours before his social media post, Trump spoke at the G7 Summit. He revealed that U.S. officials were in phone contact with Iran. He also suggested that face-to-face talks might be more productive.

“I think a deal will be signed. I think Iran is foolish not to sign one,” Trump said, expressing hope that diplomacy could still work.

He later added, “I think Iran is basically at the negotiating table and wants to make a deal. As soon as I leave here, we’re going to be doing something.”

Iran Seeks U.S. Help to Stop Strikes

As Israeli attacks continued, Iran reportedly asked the United States to help stop the aerial bombardments. The Iranian government has called for a peaceful resolution and urged Washington to step in.

Tension Within the G7 Summit

Trump’s early exit added to tensions already present at the summit. According to CNN, Trump had refused to sign a joint G7 statement on the Middle East conflict.

The statement, which had backing from leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, supported Israel’s right to defend itself and opposed Iran’s nuclear program.

However, Trump’s veto blocked G7 unity on the matter.

Officials still hoped he might change his mind, but his refusal highlighted a growing divide between the U.S. and its G7 partners.

Trump’s Ultimatum and Israel’s Response

Earlier this spring, Trump reportedly gave Iran a two-month deadline to return to the negotiating table. On day 61, Israel launched strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear program and senior military figures, according to CNN.

Trump now believes Iran wants to reduce the tension. He continues to press for a diplomatic solution, though his words and actions have stirred both hope and fear across the region.

</excerpt>

Air India has revised multiple flight paths after Iran closed its airspace amid rising regional tensions. The airline stated that certain flights are now taking “longer alternative routes” to prioritise the safety of both passengers and crew.

In a statement, the airline explained the decision:

Passenger safety remains ‘top priority’

The airline stressed that despite the disruptions, passenger well-being remains its highest concern.

“We are doing our best to minimise any inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unforeseen airspace closure,” Air India said. “We would like to reiterate that at Air India, the safety of our customers and crew remains top priority.”

The airline continues to monitor the situation in the Middle East closely and said it will make further adjustments if necessary.

US Pulls Non-Essential Staff from Middle East Amid Rising Iran Tensions

<excerpt>The US State Department has ordered non-essential staff to leave its embassy in Baghdad and allowed voluntary departures in Bahrain and Kuwait, as regional tensions rise due to deadlocked nuclear talks with Iran.
</excerpt>

The United States is scaling back its diplomatic and military presence in the Middle East as tensions with Iran rise over stalled nuclear negotiations.

Embassy Staff Ordered to Leave Baghdad

The US State Department has ordered the departure of all non-essential personnel from its embassy in Baghdad, citing the latest security review and a focus on protecting American lives abroad. The embassy was already operating on limited staff, so the change affects only a small number of people.

Voluntary Departures from Bahrain and Kuwait

In addition to Baghdad, the department has authorized voluntary departures for non-essential personnel and their families from US missions in Bahrain and Kuwait. This move gives them the option to leave due to rising regional risks.

Military Dependents Also Allowed to Leave

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved the voluntary departure of military dependents across various Middle Eastern locations. The US Central Command stated it is closely monitoring growing tensions in the region.

Nuclear Talks with Iran at a Standstill

Tensions have intensified as talks with Iran over its nuclear program appear to have stalled. These negotiations aim to reduce Iran’s uranium enrichment activities in exchange for sanctions relief. Iran insists its nuclear ambitions are peaceful.

The next round of talks, tentatively set for this weekend in Oman, now looks unlikely, according to US officials.

Trump Expresses Doubts Over Iran Deal

Donald Trump voiced skepticism during a podcast interview, saying he’s “getting more and more less confident” about reaching any agreement with Iran. He accused Iran of delaying negotiations and warned of potential consequences.

Iran Warns of Retaliation

Iranian leaders have responded with strong words. Defense Minister Gen. Aziz Nasirzadeh warned that all US bases in the region are within reach and would be targeted if conflict arises.

“Iran is not seeking a nuclear weapon,” said Iran’s UN mission in a social media post. “But US militarism only fuels instability.”

Maritime Security Alert Issued

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center issued a warning to ships, highlighting that increased tensions may lead to military escalation, especially in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and Strait of Hormuz — strategic waterways previously affected by Iranian actions.

IAEA Set to Censure Iran

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is reportedly considering a vote to censure Iran, a move that could lead to the reactivation of UN sanctions under the 2015 nuclear deal, which the Trump administration had exited.

</excerpt>

In a recent meeting China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of peace and negotiation in achieving stability in the Middle East during a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Beijing on Friday.

The two diplomats met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, concluding a two-day strategic dialogue. Both nations have expressed deep concern over the ongoing crisis in Syria and underscored the need to respect the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

“The two sides are deeply concerned about the current situation in Syria and urge respect for its sovereignty,” Wang said, adding that steps must be taken to prevent terrorist and extremist groups from exploiting the ongoing chaos.

Wang also welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, marking it as a positive development towards regional peace.

The discussions come against the backdrop of significant shifts in Syria, where ousted President Bashar al-Assad fled following a swift offensive led by the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group. Assad’s departure ends nearly five decades of authoritarian rule by his family, a period marked by the suppression of dissent, mass incarcerations, and a civil war that claimed over 500,000 lives and displaced millions.

Wang reiterated that Beijing and Cairo are committed to fostering peace through dialogue. “We agreed to work together to promote peace and negotiations to achieve stability in the Middle East,” he stated.

The meeting highlighted the shared goals of China and Egypt in addressing regional conflicts and supporting diplomatic efforts to pave the way for stability and reconciliation.

</excerpt>

Jerusalem, December 10 – The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the completion of approximately 480 airstrikes on key military installations in Syria over the past 48 hours. The operation, following the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, aimed to prevent weapons from falling into terrorist hands.

Key Targets Struck

According to the IDF, the strikes focused on dismantling Syria’s strategic military capabilities. The targeted sites included:

Weapons Stockpiles: Most of Syria’s strategic weapon reserves were neutralized.

Naval Vessels: 15 military ships were destroyed to hinder maritime threats.

Anti-Aircraft Batteries: Eliminated to prevent aerial retaliation.

Weapons Production Sites: Facilities across multiple cities were rendered inoperative.

These coordinated efforts significantly reduced the risk of advanced weaponry being acquired by terrorist organizations.

IDF’s Statement

In a public statement, the IDF emphasized the operation’s urgency:

“Within the last 48 hours, the IDF struck most of the strategic weapons stockpiles in Syria, preventing them from falling into the hands of terrorist elements.”

Regional Implications

The strikes come in the wake of heightened instability in Syria following Assad’s removal and the rise of rebel groups. The Israeli military action aims to mitigate the threat posed by armed factions potentially gaining access to advanced weaponry.

Background: Assad’s Ouster and Growing Tensions

Bashar al-Assad’s government was overthrown recently as rebel groups seized control of Damascus. The fallout has led to fears of regional destabilization, with concerns over the resurgence of extremist groups like IS and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

Global Reactions

International observers have expressed concern about the escalating tensions in the Middle East. While Israel has reiterated its commitment to national security, global leaders are urging restraint and dialogue to address the unfolding crisis.

The escalation follows attacks on Israeli positions, testing the limits of a recently brokered truce.
</excerpt>

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated Monday as the Israeli air force launched a series of strikes across southern Lebanon. The retaliation came after Hezbollah targeted an Israeli military position in a move that challenges a fragile US-brokered truce established last week.

Details of the Retaliation

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had targeted Hezbollah fighters, dozens of launchers, and terrorist infrastructure throughout Lebanon. One specific strike hit a launcher in Berghoz, southern Lebanon, shortly after Hezbollah fired at an Israeli position.

An official statement from the Israeli military demanded:

“The relevant parties in Lebanon fulfill their responsibilities and prevent Hezbollah’s hostile activity.”

Rising Tensions

The escalation comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, with the US mediating efforts to prevent a broader conflict. However, recent attacks have raised concerns over the stability of the ceasefire agreement.

The strikes indicate Israel’s firm stance against Hezbollah’s activities along its northern border. The militant group has been accused of provocative actions, including positioning launchers close to civilian areas in southern Lebanon.

International Reactions

The latest developments have drawn international attention, with calls for restraint from global leaders. Analysts suggest that the fragile truce is under severe strain and risks collapse if hostilities persist.

Trump vowed severe consequences, stating, “There will be ALL HELL TO PAY” if the hostages are not freed before January 20, 2025.
</excerpt>

US President-elect Donald Trump has taken a firm stance against Hamas regarding the ongoing hostage situation in the Middle East. In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared there would be “ALL HELL TO PAY” if the hostages are not released before his inauguration on January 20, 2025.

A Strong Message on Truth Social

In his post, Trump emphasized the severity of the situation, calling it “violent, inhumane, and against the will of the entire World.” He criticized previous diplomatic efforts as ineffective, stating:

“Everybody is talking about the hostages… But it’s all talk, and no action!”

Trump pledged that those responsible for the hostage crisis would face unprecedented consequences, promising:

“Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America.”

Background of the Crisis

On October 7, Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing over 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. As of now, around 100 hostages remain in captivity, with fears of additional casualties.

In retaliation, Israel launched a counteroffensive targeting Hamas units in Gaza. This has led to the loss of over 45,000 Palestinian lives, adding to the region’s turmoil.

Trump’s Policy on Middle East Stability

The President-elect’s comments mark a shift toward a more aggressive policy on the Middle East, contrasting with previous administrations’ reliance on negotiations. Trump’s vow of decisive action reflects his intent to leverage America’s strength to resolve the crisis.

Global Implications

Trump’s warnings signal a potential escalation in US involvement in the Middle East, raising concerns over further destabilization in the region. With tensions already high, the global community awaits the outcome of these demands.

</excerpt>

Israel and Hezbollah’s fragile ceasefire, brokered just a day prior by the US and France, came under strain as Israeli tank fire targeted six areas in southern Lebanon on Thursday. The Israeli military cited ceasefire violations, claiming that suspected militants had entered the border zone.

This rare ceasefire aimed to end 14 months of relentless fighting and allow residents to return to their devastated homes near the Israel-Lebanon border. However, the region remains tense as Israeli troops occupy border towns and surveillance drones patrol Lebanese airspace.

Lebanese media reported shelling in towns like Markaba and Kfarchouba, with two injuries confirmed in Markaba. Both Hezbollah and Israel have remained publicly silent on the tank fire incident.

While the ceasefire agreement requires Israeli forces to withdraw within 60 days, its durability is in question. Hezbollah, weakened by the loss of its leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah during recent hostilities, has pledged vigilance against potential Israeli aggression.

Also read: Congress Leader Alarms JPC on Communal Undertones in Waqf Amendment Bill Discussions

</excerpt>

Diplomatic Push for Gaza and Lebanon Ceasefires

Foreign ministers from G7 nations convened outside Rome on Monday, focusing on the escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. Central to the discussions are efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, where violence has sharply intensified in recent months. The meeting, which includes representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, aims to promote stability in the region before the incoming US administration takes office in January.

The G7 will be joined by foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and Qatar, alongside the Arab League Secretary General, to discuss strategies for securing peace and providing humanitarian aid to the affected populations.

Challenges in Pursuing a Gaza “Day After” Plan

A critical topic at the meeting is the development of a “day after” plan for Gaza, spearheaded by the US, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and the UAE. With tensions high and pressure to act swiftly before the Trump administration assumes power, there is a sense of urgency to advance peace talks. However, Israel’s stance on the issue has been a significant hurdle, especially after the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.

International Criminal Court (ICC) Warrants for Israeli Leaders

Another contentious issue on the G7’s agenda is the recent ICC arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister. Italy, while reaffirming its support for Israel following the October 7 Hamas attacks, is also navigating its position on the warrants, which it deems politically motivated. The situation has prompted debates within the G7, particularly between Italy’s commitment to international law and the US’s vehement opposition to the warrants.

Nathalie Tocci, Director of the Institute for International Affairs, noted that Italy’s role in the G7’s handling of the ICC warrants will be crucial. The decision could impact Italy’s standing in global diplomacy, particularly regarding the protection of its peacekeepers in Lebanon.

Russia’s Hypersonic Missile Strike Raises Concerns Over Ukraine

The meeting also turned its focus on the war in Ukraine, where Russia’s recent hypersonic missile strike has escalated the conflict. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will attend the G7 discussions to advocate for continued military and economic support. G7 members are particularly concerned about how a potential Trump administration could shift US policy on Ukraine. Trump has expressed criticism of the Biden administration’s financial aid to Ukraine, raising the possibility of a more isolationist US approach.

Italy’s Role in Supporting Ukraine

Italy, a strong supporter of Ukraine, has backed US decisions to send longer-range missiles to Ukraine, though it has limited its support by declining to provide offensive weaponry for strikes on Russian soil. Italy’s position has been influenced by its constitutional opposition to war, focusing on defensive measures such as anti-air defense systems to protect Ukrainian civilians.

G7 Ministers Address Gender Violence

On a separate note, the G7 foreign ministers also participated in the inauguration of a red bench in Italy to raise awareness about gender-based violence, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Tens of thousands marched in Rome over the weekend to protest the rising number of gender-based violence victims in Italy, with 99 women having been killed in the country this year alone.

</excerpt>

US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron engaged in discussions on Friday evening regarding efforts to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, as tensions continue to escalate in the region. The leaders also addressed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war during their conversation, highlighting key global and bilateral issues.

According to a statement from the White House, the two leaders reviewed the situation in both Ukraine and the Middle East, focusing on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Lebanon. The goal is to allow residents on both sides of the Blue Line to return safely to their homes. The White House emphasized that both leaders committed to continued close consultations on these matters, through direct communication and their national security teams.

In addition to the Middle East discussions, Biden and Macron reaffirmed their shared stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Biden’s administration recently allowed Ukraine to use long-range American missiles, a decision supported by Macron. The French president previously praised Biden’s decision, noting that it came in response to Russia’s escalatory actions. Macron had also expressed support earlier this year for Ukraine’s right to strike within Russian territory, suggesting that Moscow was exploiting Western hesitance regarding Ukraine’s missile capabilities.

As the situation in both Lebanon and Ukraine continues to develop, the leaders remain focused on diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and ensure peace in both regions.

</excerpt>

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Turkey’s involvement has drawn significant attention, especially after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent warships to Lebanon. While this move has sparked speculation about Turkey joining the war against Israel, the Turkish government clarified that these warships were dispatched to evacuate Turkish citizens from Lebanon as conflicts in the region intensify.

Erdogan made strong statements criticising Israel‘s actions during the ongoing conflict, particularly regarding the Gaza and Lebanon operations. He was quoted saying:
“PM Netanyahu is acting out his dream of a ‘utopia’ and ‘promised land’ for Israel. After Lebanon, the next place on which Israel will set its eyes will be our homeland,” referencing concerns that Israel’s regional ambitions could extend beyond current borders.

Lebanon has become increasingly embroiled in the conflict as Hezbollah, supported by Iran, engages in regular clashes with Israeli forces along the Lebanese border. As Israel continues to expand its operations, particularly in southern Lebanon, Turkey’s decision to send naval assets raises eyebrows, especially given Erdogan’s ongoing criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon. Erdogan has previously accused Israel of attempting to destabilise the region and even claimed that Turkey could be a future target.

However, Turkey’s official stance remains focused on the evacuation mission, with no confirmation of direct military involvement in the Israel-Lebanon conflict. Turkish lawmakers also held closed-door discussions about the growing war in the Middle East, underlining Ankara’s concern about the broader implications for regional stability. While Erdogan has positioned Turkey as a strong critic of Israel, it is not yet clear if the country will take further military steps in the escalating conflict.

Despite US calls for diplomacy, Netanyahu has rejected a ceasefire and continues military operations against Hezbollah and Gaza, raising concerns of further escalation in the Middle East conflict.
</excerpt>

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, US President Joe Biden expressed uncertainty over whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deliberately stalling a ceasefire deal to impact the upcoming US presidential election. While Biden acknowledged his administration’s strong support for Israel, he questioned Netanyahu’s motives but stopped short of making any direct accusations.

“No administration has helped Israel more than I have. None. None. None,” Biden stated, adding that Netanyahu should “remember that.” He continued, “Whether he’s trying to influence the election, I don’t know, but I’m not counting on that.”

Several Democratic leaders have raised concerns that Netanyahu’s refusal to engage in ceasefire talks could hurt their party’s chances in the November election. Despite Biden’s call for negotiations, the Israeli Prime Minister has rejected proposals, insisting on continued military actions.

Regarding recent missile attacks, Biden said there was no decision yet on how to respond to Iran’s missile strike on Israel earlier this week. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was in retaliation for Israeli strikes on Hezbollah leaders and Iran-backed militants in Lebanon and Gaza.

The United States, alongside its allies, proposed a 21-day ceasefire on the Israel-Lebanon border to prevent further escalation and allow for diplomatic efforts. However, Netanyahu refused the ceasefire, stating, “We are continuing to strike Hezbollah with full force. We will not stop until we reach all our goals, chief among them the safe return of northern residents to their homes.”

Israel has continued military actions on two fronts, launching a ground incursion into Lebanon against Hezbollah and conducting strikes in Gaza. The ongoing conflict has left multiple Israeli soldiers dead and caused significant civilian casualties, including children, as the region braces for further violence.

</excerpt>

The ongoing Israel-Iran conflict has heightened tensions in the Middle East, plunging the already fragile region into warfare once again. Recent events escalated when Israel launched a ground offensive into Lebanon following the assassination of a prominent Hezbollah commander. Amid this turmoil, an old video of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has resurfaced on social media, in which he discusses the Israel-Palestine conflict.

In the video, Vajpayee addresses a gathering, stating, “the land which is occupied by Israel, they will have to vacate that land,” referring to Palestinian territories. He clarifies that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not support Israel at the expense of Arab nations. “The Palestinians, their rightful rights should be established,” he continues, noting that both the Soviet Union and the United States have acknowledged Israel’s existence, and there must be a balanced solution for the Middle East that fosters stability and peace.

The recent military actions have resulted in significant casualties, with at least 46 people reported killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Beirut, according to Lebanese health officials. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the targeted attack aimed at dismantling Hezbollah bases in the capital, destroying over 150 Hezbollah-related infrastructure sites. This offensive comes after Iran launched a missile barrage at Israel, hitting an apartment building in Beirut, marking the closest strikes to Lebanon’s government seat.

This renewed conflict can be traced back to October 7 of last year when Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing several and taking numerous hostages. Israel responded with extensive military operations in Hamas-controlled areas of the Gaza Strip, including a blockade to limit supplies, which continues to exacerbate the ongoing war.

</excerpt>

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday urged global powers to prevent the outbreak of a third World War, citing the ongoing conflicts and loss of life. Speaking about the humanitarian crisis, Abdullah expressed concern over the deteriorating global situation.
“I hope the big powers of the world will ensure that there is no World War III. People are dying on both sides. Humanity is dead. The Russia-Ukraine war is also still ongoing. May God bring back humanity,” Abdullah said, stressing the need for immediate efforts toward peace and stability.

Turning to the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections, the former Chief Minister expressed confidence in his party’s prospects, stating that the Congress-National Conference alliance would secure victory and form the next government in the region. “We are confident that the Congress-NC alliance will win the elections and work towards a better future for Jammu and Kashmir,” Abdullah asserted.
The escalating situation in the Middle East intensified after Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel.
In response, the United States military closely coordinated with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to defend against the attack. Abdullah’s call for peace comes as global attention shifts to these developments, raising concerns about further instability in the region.

</excerpt>

Tensions between Israel and Iran have reached a critical point after Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles toward Israel in retaliation for the assassination of key Hezbollah and Hamas leaders. Despite the large-scale missile barrage, Israel confirmed that the only fatality was a Palestinian man in the West Bank. Most of the missiles were intercepted by Israel’s advanced air defense systems, including the Iron Dome, with additional support from U.S. destroyers stationed in the region.

In response to the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning, stating that Iran had made a “big mistake” and would “pay the price.” He emphasized that Israel would strike back at a time and place of its choosing, signaling potential further escalation in the region. This sentiment was echoed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), with spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari confirming that Israel would conduct airstrikes across the Middle East as part of its retaliation strategy. The IDF also warned civilians in southern Lebanon, a Hezbollah stronghold, to evacuate their homes to avoid harm.

In Tehran, the missile strikes were celebrated by Hezbollah supporters, while Iran‘s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the attack was in “self-defense” against Israeli aggression. Tehran’s international airport was also temporarily closed, signaling a heightened state of alert in the country.

The escalation comes at a time when the Middle East is already fraught with conflict, particularly between Israel and Hezbollah. Netanyahu’s remarks, combined with Israel’s promise of massive airstrikes, suggest that the situation may worsen, with both sides preparing for prolonged conflict. Analysts are closely watching to see how the international community, especially the U.S., responds to the escalating violence.

</excerpt>

Shocking reports have emerged from Iran, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei being moved to a secure location amidst a sudden escalation of tensions following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the region, occurred earlier this week when Israeli airstrikes reportedly killed Nasrallah in Beirut. While Israel has not officially confirmed its role in the attack, the fallout has been swift, drawing fierce condemnation from Tehran and plunging the Middle East into uncertainty.

In response to Nasrallah’s death, Iran has intensified security measures around Khamenei, fearing potential retaliation from Israel or other actors involved in the conflict. Khamenei’s movement to a secure location underscores the gravity of the situation, as Iran grapples with the implications of Nasrallah’s death and its effect on the wider “Axis of Resistance”—a network of militias and groups aligned with Iran across Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.

Reports suggest that Hezbollah had been planning retaliatory actions against Israel before Nasrallah’s assassination, with rockets being fired from Lebanon into Israel in recent weeks. Hezbollah has historically been a powerful proxy for Iran, and Nasrallah’s assassination strikes at the heart of Iran’s regional influence. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the killing as a critical step towards neutralizing Hezbollah’s leadership and securing Israel’s northern borders.

However, the situation has raised concerns of a broader conflict, as Iran vowed swift retaliation. Ayatollah Khamenei, in a rare public statement after the incident, referred to Nasrallah as a “martyr” and promised that his death would “not go unavenged.” In the wake of this, protests erupted across Tehran and other Iranian cities, with demonstrators chanting anti-Israeli slogans and calling for retribution.

Khamenei’s temporary retreat into hiding further complicates the picture, as Iran faces internal pressure from its hardline factions to act decisively, while also contending with the ever-present threat of Israeli airstrikes. There are also reports that Iranian intelligence is investigating potential Israeli infiltration within its ranks, suspecting that Nasrallah’s assassination was facilitated by information leaks from within Hezbollah or Iran’s own Revolutionary Guard.

The U.S. has been dragged into the controversy, with Iranian officials accusing Washington of complicity due to its military support for Israel. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian lashed out, stating that the U.S. could not “wash its hands” of Nasrallah’s death, as American-supplied weapons were allegedly used in the attack.

The developments come at a particularly sensitive time for the region, with ongoing conflicts between Israel and Hamas, heightened tensions in Syria, and a fragile truce in Yemen. Analysts are closely watching Iran’s next move, which could determine whether the current escalation spirals into a larger, more protracted conflict that draws in multiple regional and global powers.

As Iran continues to consolidate its defenses and weigh its options for retaliation, the Middle East finds itself on the edge of yet another potential crisis, with many fearing that Khamenei’s next steps could lead to a full-blown war between Iran and Israel, dragging Hezbollah and other militias into the fray.

The coming days will be crucial in determining how this shocking turn of events will unfold, with all eyes on Tehran and Tel Aviv as both sides navigate the aftermath of Nasrallah’s assassination.

On Sunday, Israeli forces launched a large-scale preemptive strike in southern Lebanon, deploying 100 warplanes to destroy thousands of Hezbollah missile launchers. The strike was initiated based on intelligence reports suggesting Hezbollah was preparing to launch a massive missile attack on northern Israel. In response, Israel imposed a 48-hour state of emergency, temporarily closed its main airport, and faced over 200 retaliatory projectiles from Hezbollah. Despite the barrage, the damage was minimal, but the conflict resulted in the deaths of one Israeli soldier and three civilians in Lebanon.

The preemptive strike followed the July killing of a Hezbollah commander and was intended to prevent a full-scale attack on Israel, including a planned drone strike on a critical intelligence center near Tel Aviv. Despite the aggressive actions, both Israel and Hezbollah announced a temporary halt to operations, signaling a possible de-escalation.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expressed hope that the situation would not escalate into a regional war. Israeli officials echoed similar sentiments, indicating their relief over preventing a more significant crisis. Israel eased restrictions later that day, reopening its airport and lifting public gathering bans.

Meanwhile, ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas continued in Cairo, although obstacles remained. Hamas accused Israel of imposing new conditions and delaying an agreement. US efforts to mediate peace in the region persist, but challenges are rising, with tensions growing between the US and its regional allies regarding its influence over Israel.

Hezbollah’s attacks were framed as retaliation for the death of Fuad Shukr, a Hezbollah commander, with the group claiming responsibility for firing over 320 missiles at Israeli military sites. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized his resolve to protect the nation, vowing to respond forcefully to any harm inflicted on Israel.

The US, standing firmly behind Israel’s right to self-defense, has increased its military presence in the region to deter further escalation. Despite diplomatic efforts, the threat of a wider conflict involving Iran and its allied militias looms, as Israel continues its military actions in Gaza and confronts Hezbollah along the northern border.

The situation remains tense, with tens of thousands of civilians evacuated on both sides of the border, while Hezbollah vows to continue fighting until Israel agrees to a ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza. The ongoing conflict has already resulted in thousands of casualties and shows little sign of abating in the immediate future.

</excerpt>

United States is working to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, with its UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield emphasizing the need to prevent a broader regional conflict. Concerns are mounting that Iran may retaliate against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July, an act for which Israel has not claimed responsibility.

US Aims for Ceasefire and Hostage Release

Speaking at the UN Security Council in New York, Thomas-Greenfield highlighted the US’s commitment to deterring further attacks and fostering regional stability. She called for a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, stressing that such a deal, including the release of hostages, could help reduce tensions and avoid a wider conflict.

US President Joe Biden expressed cautious optimism that a ceasefire could deter Iran from launching an attack on Israel, stating, “That’s my expectation, but we’ll see.” However, Biden remained resolute in his approach, noting, “We’ll see what Iran does and we’ll see what happens if there’s any attack, but I’m not giving up.”

Challenges in Ceasefire Negotiations

Despite ongoing international efforts, the path to a ceasefire remains fraught with challenges. Hamas official Ahmad Abdul Hadi reportedly stated that the group would not participate in upcoming talks scheduled in Doha or Cairo, according to reports from the New York Times and Sky News. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has postponed a planned trip to the Middle East to focus on negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.

Escalating Violence and Diplomatic Tensions

The conflict has already claimed a heavy toll, with over 39,920 people killed in Gaza, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry. In addition, hundreds have died in ongoing exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli military along the Israel-Lebanon border.

Iran, dismissing Western calls for restraint, has remained defiant. While Israel has not confirmed involvement in Haniyeh’s assassination, it has placed its military on high alert, anticipating possible retaliation. The US, in turn, has increased its military presence in the region, warning of potential attacks by Iran or its proxies.

Thomas-Greenfield reiterated the US’s stance at the Security Council, insisting that a broader regional conflict is not inevitable if a ceasefire is reached. However, the Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, criticized the Security Council’s response, accusing it of failing to act decisively to halt Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

As tensions continue to simmer, the international community remains focused on de-escalating the situation and preventing further violence in a region already deeply scarred by conflict.

Air India stated on X (formerly Twitter): “Given the current situation in parts of the Middle East, we are suspending our flights to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect until further notice.
The airline also mentioned that passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to or from Tel Aviv will receive a full refund. Additionally, Air India is offering a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation fees for flights affected by the suspension.

Previously, on August 2, Air India had announced a temporary suspension of flights to Tel Aviv until August 8 due to heightened tensions in the Middle East. The situation has intensified following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran on July 31, allegedly by Israeli forces.

</excerpt>

Amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East, oil prices saw a rebound on Monday, aiming to recover from the significant declines witnessed last week. The surge in prices comes in the wake of developments such as Israel’s evacuation orders in Gaza and Saudi Aramco’s decision to raise its official crude prices.

Oil Market Update

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for the June contract climbed to $78.88 per barrel, marking a 1% increase of 77 cents.

Brent crude, representing the global benchmark, saw a rise to $83.66 per barrel for the July contract, up by 0.83% or 70 cents.

RBOB Gasoline futures for June surged to $2.56 per gallon, reflecting a 0.27% increase, with a significant year-to-date rise of about 22%.

Natural gas prices also experienced an uptick, with the June contract reaching $2.18 per thousand cubic feet, up by 1.63%.

Last week, oil prices faced a notable decline, primarily driven by market sentiments regarding geopolitical risks, particularly concerning potential conflicts involving Iran and Israel. Additionally, the surge in U.S. crude inventories, coupled with weakened demand, contributed to the downward pressure on oil prices.

Current Geopolitical Dynamics

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks underscored Israel’s firm stance amid international pressure regarding the conflict in Gaza. Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s commitment to continuing operations until Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza, is defeated.

Saudi Arabia’s decision to increase crude prices reflects the country’s confidence in robust demand, especially in Asian markets. This move indicates a positive outlook regarding future oil demand and market conditions.

The combination of these geopolitical developments and market dynamics has contributed to the volatility and recovery in oil prices observed in recent trading sessions.

</excerpt>

India and Oman are set to finalize a trade agreement in the coming months, according to two Indian government officials. This move comes as India aims to bolster its relations in the Middle East amid escalating tensions that pose risks to crucial shipping routes.

One official stated to Reuters, “It will help India with a strategic partner and access to key trade routes in a volatile region.”

Despite the current annual trade between India and Oman being less than $13 billion, the partnership holds significance for India due to Oman’s position as a gateway to the vital Strait of Hormuz, a critical transit point for global oil shipments.

With recent regional conflicts, including Israel’s conflict with Hamas and Yemen’s Houthi militants’ actions in the Red Sea, India sees the trade deal as crucial for ensuring stability in the region.

The finalization of the trade agreement depends on the approval of the winning government in India’s ongoing national elections, with results expected on June 4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to secure a rare third term.

While both Indian and Omani authorities did not respond to email queries, the officials preferred anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions.

India’s focus on bilateral deals with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member nations like Oman and the UAE comes after limited progress in negotiations with the GCC as a whole.

The proposed agreement with Oman also positions India advantageously amidst GCC negotiations with Pakistan and China, providing a competitive edge.

Oman has agreed to exempt duties on Indian exports valued at $3 billion annually, covering various sectors such as agriculture, gems and jewelry, automotive, medical devices, engineering, and textiles.

In return, India has agreed to reduce duties on certain Omani exports like petrochemicals, aluminum, and copper, while also imposing import caps on these goods, as stated by the officials.
