</excerpt>

Michelle Obama has spoken candidly about her eldest daughter Malia’s decision to drop her last name as she enters the film industry. Appearing on the “Sibling Revelry” podcast on June 4 with her brother and co-host Craig Robinson, Michelle explained why she supports Malia’s choice to go by her middle name professionally.

Malia Ann, 25, made her directorial debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival with the short film The Heart, choosing to be credited as “Malia Ann.” The decision raised eyebrows as she notably omitted the famous ‘Obama’ surname.

Michelle told hosts Kate and Oliver Hudson, “It is very important for my kids to feel like they’ve earned what they are getting in the world, and they don’t want people to assume that they don’t work hard, that they’re just naturally, just handed things. They’re very sensitive to that – they want to be their people.”

“They’re Still Going to Know It’s You, Malia: Michelle Obama”

Michelle admitted that the family found the decision both amusing and admirable. “On Malia’s first project, she took off her last name, and we were like, they’re still going to know it’s you, Malia,” she said. “But we respected the fact that she’s trying to make her way.”

Hollywood recognizes Malia, who is pursuing a filmmaking career, for her talent and independence. Michelle emphasized that she and Barack Obama have always tried to support their daughters in carving out their paths.

No White House Princesses Here

Michelle also reflected on Malia and Sasha’s years growing up under the national spotlight. She said her daughters didn’t want to live like little princesses in the White House. “They wanted to push the envelope; they needed some rope. They wanted to try some things, they wanted to be out in the world.”

Malia and Sasha, now aged 25 and 23, are actively building their personal and professional lives beyond their parents’ legacy. Moreover, Michelle’s comments underscore the Obamas’ desire to allow their daughters to shape their futures, away from the constant spotlight of the family name.

</excerpt>

Barack and Michelle Obama were spotted together for the first time since December 2024 on a Washington, DC, date night.

A fellow diner caught the couple exiting a private dining room and walking down a staircase in a video taken at Osteria Mozza, an Italian eatery.

Obamas Receive a Warm Reception from Diners

Cheered to their feet, customers watched the Obamas make their way through the packed restaurant, Page Six said.

As reported by the Daily Mail, a number of restaurant customers were heard exclaiming: “Oh my God” while the audience cheered. “They will always be my President and First Lady,” one fan wrote on the viral video. Another commented, “Love that spot,” while the fourth one said, “They are always there.”

The Obamas were spotted smiling and waving outside their go-to restaurant in D.C, allaying speculation that their marriage was on the rocks.

Michelle Obama’s Visits and The Restaurant’s Popularity

Aside from Barack’s visit in January, Michelle has previously dined at the high-end “California-style Italian” eatery. She threw a Christmas dinner for her staff of ten in November, two weeks following the opening of the Georgetown neighborhood restaurant. The restaurant has since become a favorite of the couple since opening in 2024. Just about five months prior to this visit, the couple was previously spotted together in the restaurant during December.

Michelle Obama Responds to Divorce Speculation in Her Podcast

Michelle’s no-show at Donald Trump’s inauguration and Jimmy Carter’s funeral in January fueled questions about their marriage.

The former first lady spoke about the divorce rumors during a new interview with actress Sophia Bush for an episode of her podcast, Work in Progress.

“That’s what I believe is the hardest thing for women to do: let people down,” she said. “So much so that people this year assumed that my husband and I were divorcing because they couldn’t even comprehend that I was making a decision for myself.” “That this couldn’t be an adult woman making her own decisions, could it?”

Michelle Obama Breaks Silence on Divorce Rumours: ‘I Chose Me’

<excerpt>Michelle Obama addressed divorce rumours on a podcast, revealing she’s prioritising self-care after years of putting others first. She reflected on struggles women face in disappointing others and highlighted how Barack Obama’s presidency impacted their relationship, as shared in her book Becoming.
</excerpt>

During a recent appearance on actress Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast, Michelle Obama openly discussed persistent divorce rumors and her not attending high-profile political gatherings. Looking back at her life eight years since departing the White House, Michelle opened up about finding personal growth and prioritizing herself.

She acknowledged that for years, she procrastinated on making some decisions, often citing being a mother as a reason. “I could have made a lot of these decisions years ago, but I didn’t give myself that freedom. Perhaps even as much as I let my kids live their own lives, I use their lives as an excuse for why I couldn’t do something,” she told the podcast.

As her daughters are already grown, Michelle reported that she is finally able to do what she wants. Pointing to a recent instance this year, she said, “I get to look at my calendar, which I did this year, was a real big example of me, myself looking at something that I was supposed to do you know, without naming names and I chose to do what was best for me, not what I had to do, not what I thought other people wanted me to do.”

Her failure to attend significant events like President Donald Trump’s second inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral in January had fueled speculations. Some even harbored such speculation involving marital problems.

Michelle Address Rumors

Michelle spoke against these rumors, noting how women tend to have difficulty prioritizing themselves without guilt. “That’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with like disappointing people. I mean so much so that this year people were, you know they couldn’t even imagine that I was making a choice for myself that they had to think that my husband and I are getting divorced,” she said.

During the commotion, former President Barack Obama shared a sweet message to Michelle on Valentine’s Day, further putting the rumors to rest. “Thirty-two years together and you still take my breath away. Happy Valentine’s Day, @MichelleObama!” he wrote on X.

Michelle has earlier accepted the difficulties that accompanied her husband’s presidency. She reminisced on the emotional stress in her memoir Becoming, citing times characterized by exhaustion and loneliness during Barack Obama’s political career.

</excerpt>

The ex-President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, is devoting more time with his wife Michelle Obama to compensate for the tension his presidency created in their union. In a candid discussion with Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, the 63-year-old shared the experience of how his two White House terms affected his life.

“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” Obama confessed. “So I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by occasionally doing fun things.”

The Obamas, who have marked 33 years of marriage, have long spoken openly about the strains they endured during Barack’s presidency. Long hours, public attention, and the stresses of the job all wore down their relationship.

In a 2023 CBS Mornings appearance, Barack Obama commented on how life is different since stepping down from the presidency.

“Let me just say this: It sure helps to be out of the White House and to have a little more time with her,” he said.

Michelle Obama has also spoken candidly about the challenges in their marriage. In an open interview with Revolt TV, she confessed that there was a period when she had to deal with her husband’s absence because of his presidential responsibilities.

People assume I’m being catty, saying this — it’s like, there were 10 years when I hated my husband. And guess when it was? When those kids were little,” she said.

The pair, whom they met at a law firm in the late 1980s and were married in 1992, have two daughters, Sasha and Malia. They have had much to talk about over the years about keeping their marriage steady through the downs and ups amidst raising a family in the light of public limelight.

In her memoir and interviews, Michelle also disclosed that they had once gone to marriage therapy, and there were some times when she hoped things were different.

“But I don’t think I ever thought, ‘I’m just checking out of this,'” she said in 2018.

Now that there is more private time outside political life, the Obamas seem committed to deepening their connection and welcoming a new chapter in their marriage.

She highlights the role of the Secret Service in teaching her daughters to drive confidently. Despite paparazzi attention, Sasha remained calm and confident behind the wheel in later years.
</excerpt>

Michelle Obama recently revealed the emotional experience of her daughter Sasha’s terrifying high school car crash on an appearance on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast. Discussing the difficulties of raising independent kids, she spoke out on the lesson of letting go.

Michelle explained that raising her daughters, Sasha and Malia, has been an education in letting go. She said, “Being a mother has been a masterclass in letting go. Try as we might, there’s only so much we can control.”

Following the acquisition of their driver’s licenses, Michelle and Barack purchased their daughters vehicles, with Secret Service agents dispatched to trail behind them for security. But then Michelle remembered a scary moment when Sasha was involved in an automobile accident. “Once they got their license, we acquired a car for them. And then the agents. they now get to follow this teenager to school, to parties,” she said. “But once Sasha got T-boned, literally her car totaled. Some lady T-boned her,” Michelle added, describing the fear of hearing the call that Sasha had an accident and the vehicle was a total loss.

Secret Service’s Role

Fortunately, Sasha came out of the accident with minor injuries. Both of Michelle and Barack’s daughters became good drivers despite the scary experience. Michelle earlier explained how the Secret Service helped Malia learn to drive. She explained, “They had to do things like learn how to drive, and learn how to drive on their own.”

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2018, Michelle discussed a humorous driving lesson for Malia: “Her instructor put her in the car and said, ‘Floor it. Press the gas as hard as you can, and then I want you to stop.'”

Confidence Behind the Wheel

Sasha’s ease driving was seen as she was seen driving confidently, even in the presence of paparazzi. In May 2022, she was photographed dropping Malia off at LAX in a black hatchback, without seeming to notice the cameras. Likewise, in September 2023, Sasha was seen driving through Los Angeles, lighting a cigarette and looking entirely relaxed despite the constant presence of paparazzi.

Here’s What We Know

<excerpt>Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson are set to launch IMO, a new podcast tackling life’s biggest questions. With Michelle’s absence from public events and Barack Obama’s solo appearances, fans wonder if she will address divorce rumors.
</excerpt>

Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson are to introduce a new weekly podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson, this month. In an AP press release, it has been explained that the podcast will discuss “everyday questions shaping our lives, relationships and the world around us.” Since Michelle’s disappearance from the spotlight and Barack Obama’s numerous solitary appearances, fans are wondering whether the former First Lady will respond to persistent divorce rumors.

Star-Studded Guest List

The podcast will have a star-studded guest list, featuring actors Issa Rae and Keke Palmer, psychologist Dr. Orna Guralnik, and directors Seth and Lauren Rogen. Other guests include soccer legend Abby Wambach, authors Jay Shetty, Glennon Doyle, and Logan Ury, editor Elaine Welteroth, and radio host Angie Martinez. Media mogul Tyler Perry, actress Tracee Ellis Ross, and celebrity pair Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union will also be making an appearance. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky will also be appearing.

Spotify’s Take on the New Podcast

Spotify has characterized the podcast as a place where Michelle and Craig will share their distinct viewpoints on everything from politics to pop culture, providing real advice and real stories. “Each week, they’re joined by special guests to tackle audience questions with practical advice, relatable anecdotes, and plenty of laughs. From dating and relationships to parenting and financial planning, IMO sees the iconic First Lady at her most relaxed and honest. This podcast will leave you laughing, reflecting, and feeling more prepared to tackle life’s challenges,” Spotify said.

Will Michelle Obama Address Divorce Rumors?

Fans have been waiting with bated breath to know whether Michelle will discuss her marriage on the podcast. Michelle has been missing from public appearances in recent months, while Barack Obama has been seen alone on at least three occasions. These sightings created rumors about their relationship, and rumors even went around about Barack’s supposed affair with Jennifer Aniston. Nevertheless, even though they do not share public appearances very often, Michelle and Barack have exchanged loving social media posts to one another during their birthdays and Valentine’s Day.

Michelle Obama Discusses Divorce – But Not Her Own

The New York Times quotes that Michelle had indeed talked about divorce in the initial two episodes of the podcast. But what she was talking about was her brother Craig Robinson’s divorce from his wife Janis Robinson in 2000. The sibling pair also spoke about Michelle’s marriage to Barack Obama but made no references to any existing marital problems in the former First Couple.

As IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson premieres, audiences will get a closer look into the duo’s candid perspectives on life, relationships, and challenges, making it a must-listen for fans and followers alike.

Michelle Obama recently shared a heartfelt message on Instagram alongside her husband, former US President Barack Obama. This comes amid ongoing rumors about their marriage. In her post, Michelle announced that The Obama Presidential Center would honor Hadiya Pendleton, a talented honor roll student whose tragic death in 2013 shocked the nation. Notably, Pendleton had performed at Barack’s second inauguration just days before her untimely passing.

Plans for a Memorial Garden in Chicago

Furthermore, Michelle and Barack revealed their plans to open a memorial garden at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago to honor Pendleton’s memory. In her Instagram story, Michelle shared, “To this day, I carry Hadiya’s story with me everywhere I go. She had an extraordinary light that will not be forgotten, and Barack and I look forward to honoring her memory through a dedicated space at the Obama Presidential Center.” She also referred to Barack as “my husband,” subtly addressing the recent divorce rumors.

Rumors and Absences Fuel Speculations

The rumors about the Obamas’ marriage began to spread after Michelle chose not to attend President Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony while Barack was present. Additionally, Michelle was absent from President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, explaining it was due to a “scheduling conflict” as she spent time in Hawaii. This followed the passing of her mother, Marian Robinson, in May, which led Michelle to step back from the public eye.

Michelle Reflects on Grief and Campaign Involvement

Despite this, Michelle opened up about her grief at the Democratic National Convention in August. She admitted that her mother’s death had a profound impact on her and that she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to speak. “I still feel her loss so profoundly – I wasn’t even sure I’d be steady enough to stand before you tonight,” she said. However, Michelle still took an active role in supporting Kamala Harris during her presidential campaign.

These unforgettable moments captured attention and defined his first presidential day.
</excerpt>

Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election was a surprising one, as he overcame rival Hillary Clinton to claim the White House. The businessman-turned-politician’s first inauguration in January 2017 became a day of unforgettable moments, some of which sparked viral attention for various reasons.

Here are 5 iconic moments from that day that went viral

1. Michelle Obama’s Side Eye

One of the most memorable moments from Trump’s inauguration day happened when he and wife Melania greeted the outgoing president, Barack Obama, and First Lady Michelle Obama. As the couples exchanged pleasantries, an awkward moment occurred when Melania handed Michelle a wrapped gift. The confusion over what to do with it, followed by Michelle’s side-eye and half-smile, was caught on camera, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about viral moments from the day.

I’ll never forget when Melania gave Michelle a Tiffany gift during Trump’s inauguration and Michelle was holding her package. pic.twitter.com/GDrvlaLv93

2. Crowd Size Controversy

Trump’s inauguration crowd size became a point of contention almost immediately after the ceremony. While the president claimed it was the largest gathering in history, photos and reports showed a starkly different reality. His press secretary, Sean Spicer, famously criticised the press for underreporting the crowd size, but further investigation revealed that Trump had ordered alterations to aerial photos to make the crowds appear larger. The public backlash only intensified, with the media questioning the credibility of the claims.

Donald Trump didn’t want a repeat of 2017 to show that he can’t bring the same crowd size for his inauguration as Obama. pic.twitter.com/njOEk5oROt

3. The Presidential Pens Incident

After being sworn in, Trump quickly moved to sign formal documents nominating his Cabinet members. However, the moment became awkward when he began handing out custom-made Cross pens to those in attendance, seemingly as mementos. As the pens ran out, Trump remarked, “I think we’re going to need some more pens,” leading to the White House ordering additional supplies. The unusual scene of Trump distributing pens added to the list of odd moments that day.

4. The ‘American Carnage’ Speech

In his inaugural address, Trump made waves with his stark depiction of America’s troubles. His speech, which he had described as being fiery, painted a bleak picture of a nation suffering from rampant crime, a failing education system, and economic decline. The line, “This American carnage stops right here and stops right now,” drew criticism from leaders across the world, with many viewing it as a jarring tone for the beginning of a new presidency. The speech set the tone for much of his first term in office, marked by intense political division.

5. The Raised Fist and Red Tie Moment

Amidst the ceremony, several iconic photos of Trump from his first inauguration went viral. One of the most notable images featured Trump waving to the crowd, with his red tie blowing dramatically in the wind over his shoulder. Another moment that captured attention was Trump raising his fist to the crowd in a gesture that seemed to surprise those on the dais. This moment of defiance would later be echoed during a pivotal moment in Trump’s presidency, just after surviving an assassination attempt, making it even more historically significant.

Trump’s first inauguration was a day filled with memorable and sometimes controversial moments, each of which played a part in shaping the narrative of his presidency and leaving an indelible mark on American history.

The Real Reason Michelle Obama Is Skipping Trump’s Inauguration

<excerpt>Michelle Obama’s decision to skip Trump’s inauguration has sparked divorce rumors. Some defend her due to personal loss. Sources suggest her absence is deliberate, reflecting her stance.
</excerpt>

Speculation about the marriage of Barack and Michelle Obama has gained momentum after news broke that Michelle Obama will not be attending U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Social media users have fueled the rumors, one of whom points to old letters from Barack Obama in 1982 where he wrote about thinking about intimacy with men. Another defended Michelle, speculating that her absence might be related to mourning her mother, Marian Robinson, who died last May.

This is the second major event Michelle has missed in a month. Former President Barack Obama went to former U.S. More fuel for the fire: only President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Photos and videos of the ceremony, including this one of Barack interacting with Donald Trump, quickly circulated online.

The Obamas’ office released a statement verifying that “former president Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies.” Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”

A report by the New York Post stated that Michelle’s absence might be deliberate. According to a source close to the Obamas, “She’s never been fake and she’s never been phony. She’s always been very deliberate about where and how she shows up.” They added, “She showed up reluctantly for the election. They were united, but she doesn’t have to unify around [Trump]. She doesn’t have to say anything. Her absence speaks volumes.”

Barack and Michelle Obama, married since 1992, have been counted among the most powerful and the most loving couples. This has been reported since Michelle is foregoing the inauguration, and this has set off a larger conversation regarding their personal choices and hidden messages behind their public appearances.

While former presidents and their spouses will attend, she remains absent without explanation.
</excerpt>

Michelle Obama will not be attending the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, becoming the second consecutive week that she has missed a high-profile gathering of former US leaders and their spouses. Former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, as well as their wives, are scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony, but Michelle Obama will not.

In a statement shared with The Associated Press, the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed that the former first lady would be absent but did not explain why. This follows Michelle Obama skipped last week’s state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter, which saw all living former presidents and their spouses attend except her.

Absent was Michelle Obama, who has been the only spouse not attending the Washington National Cathedral for the funeral of her predecessor, Mr. Carter. During the service, her husband, former President Barack Obama, and President Trump were sitting side by side and appeared to be in good spirits while chatting and laughing amicably, despite political differences.

Other confirmed attendees include Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as George and Laura Bush. For the first time, this occasion breaks the precedent of first ladies and former presidents making an appearance. For instance, Hillary Clinton did during the first inauguration by Trump in 2017, after losing her election in the year 2016 to Donald Trump.

</excerpt>

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is facing widespread criticism after sharing a New Year’s message on Instagram ahead of Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The video, which lasted 1.5 minutes, marked the end of 2024 and was aimed at spreading holiday cheer.

In the video, Michelle greeted her followers with a vibrant “Happy holidays!” She also addressed the challenges of the past year and expressed hope for the future, as Trump prepares to resume his role as President next month.

A Message of Hope Met with Criticism

Michelle Obama’s comments about “anxious and uncertain” times didn’t sit well with many social media users. Critics accused her of projecting a negative outlook as a veiled critique of Trump’s decisive victory over Kamala Harris in the November elections.

In her address, Obama highlighted the work of the Obama Foundation, which supports young changemakers globally, and shared moments from 2024, including the progress of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

Internet Divided on Obama’s Remarks

The video sparked mixed reactions online. While some praised her optimism, many others criticized her message.

Another commented:
“Trump can hopefully fix the mess your husband has gotten this country into. The subway in your video, how ironic.”

Supporters React to the Backlash

Despite the criticism, Michelle’s supporters defended her message of hope and emphasized the importance of her foundation’s efforts.

Her video, which featured snippets of her and Barack Obama’s activities throughout the year, has drawn attention to ongoing projects like the Obama Presidential Center, symbolizing hope and progress for many.

She warned that a Trump presidency would threaten women’s healthcare, urging men to stand up for the women in their lives during this election.
</excerpt>

At a rally in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on Saturday, former First Lady Michelle Obama made a passionate appeal to men to support Kamala Harris’s campaign for president, emphasizing the dangers women’s rights face should Donald Trump return to the White House. In her speech, Obama linked the assault on abortion rights to broader threats to women’s healthcare, urging men not to let their frustrations with progress endanger the lives of the women and children they care about.

Obama stated, “If we don’t get this election right, your wife, your daughter, your mother— we as women will become collateral damage to your rage.” She called on men to consider the implications of their vote, asking if they were prepared to look into the eyes of the women in their lives and explain their support for what she termed an “assault on our safety.”

This rally marked Obama’s first campaign appearance since addressing the Democratic National Convention earlier this summer, and her remarks were both fiery and deeply personal in their support of Harris. She noted Harris’s qualifications, declaring, “By every measure, she has demonstrated that she’s ready,” but also questioned whether the country was truly prepared for a historic moment with a woman president. Obama implored her audience not to be swayed by misconceptions about Harris’s identity or agenda, asserting, “This is somebody who understands you, all of you.”

As she expressed her fears for the nation’s future, Obama shared her personal struggles with the current political climate, saying, “I lay awake at night wondering, ‘What in the world is going on?’” She highlighted the challenges women face in managing their health, from menstrual cycles to childbirth, and stressed the gravity of healthcare decisions that can be a matter of life or death.

Following Obama’s impassioned speech, Kamala Harris took the stage, promising the crowd that her presidency would prioritize their interests, in contrast to Trump, whom she accused of being self-serving. Harris stated, “There is a yearning in our country for a president who sees the people, not just looking in the mirror all the time, but sees the people, who gets you and who will fight for you.”

After the rally, Harris visited a local bar with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, where they enjoyed local brews and interacted with constituents. During a pre-rally visit to a doctor’s office in Portage, Harris spoke with healthcare providers about the ramifications of abortion restrictions, highlighting concerns that patients from other states with stricter laws are increasingly seeking care in Michigan.

In a broader context, Harris campaigned with high-profile figures like Beyoncé and former President Barack Obama, which contrasts sharply with Trump’s more limited celebrity connections. Nonetheless, Trump dismissed Harris’s celebrity endorsements, remarking on her appearance at a “dance party” with Beyoncé while holding his own rally in Michigan.

As early in-person voting commenced in Michigan, with over 1.4 million ballots already submitted, President Joe Biden was also on the campaign trail, addressing the Laborers’ International Union in Pittsburgh. He praised Harris’s commitment to organized labor and criticized Trump for his anti-union stance. Biden asserted that women should have equal opportunities, stating, “They can do anything any man can do, including be president of the United States of America.”

In a political landscape marked by a gender divide, the campaign strategies of both Harris and Biden indicate a concerted effort to mobilize support among women voters while addressing concerns about the implications of a Trump presidency.

In a powerful speech, Obama praised President Biden, criticized Donald Trump’s leadership, and urged Americans to vote for Harris, emphasizing the need for a new chapter in American politics.
</excerpt>

Obama’s Powerful Endorsement

Former US President Barack Obama took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to rally support for Kamala Harris in her late bid for the presidency. Amid thunderous applause, Obama, the first Black American elected to the White House, delivered a stirring speech, praising President Joe Biden and emphasizing the importance of electing Harris. “We are ready for a President Kamala Harris,” he declared, urging voters to “fight for an America we can believe in”. He said that “Donald Trump sees power as nothing more than a means to his own ends.”

Michelle Obama’s Resonant Message

Before Obama’s address, his wife Michelle Obama received a warm welcome from the crowd. She passionately endorsed Harris and her running mate saying “Hope is making a comeback,” Tim Walz, calling for a rejection of fear and division. Michelle Obama also criticized former President Donald Trump, warning that he would try to distort Harris’s message, just as he had tried to instill fear during his presidency. Her speech resonated with the audience, drawing both applause and laughter as she quipped about Trump’s narrow worldview.

Republican Defections Highlighted

The convention also featured speeches from Republicans who have distanced themselves from Trump, including former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham and ex-Trump voter Kyle Sweetser. Their appearances underscored the broader appeal of the Harris-Walz ticket and the growing discontent with Trump’s leadership among some former supporters.

As the election approaches, Obama’s endorsement adds significant weight to Harris’s campaign, marking a pivotal moment in her pursuit to become the first woman, and the first person of Black and South Asian descent, to hold the presidency.

Michelle Obama recently opened up about her life after leaving the White House, reflecting on the newfound sense of freedom that came with the transition. In a candid conversation with her close friend Melinda Gates on the podcast Moments That Make Us, the former First Lady shared her thoughts on adjusting to life outside the presidential bubble.

During the podcast, Gates, the 68-year-old philanthropist and ex-wife of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, praised Michelle, calling herself “lucky” to have her in her life. Michelle, now 60, reciprocated the warmth, delving into the mixed emotions she felt after her family’s departure from the White House in 2017.

Michelle described it as “wonderful” to leave behind the demands of an official career, but she admitted that moving to a new home felt “odd” after eight years in the presidential residence. One of the strangest moments, she recalled, was hearing the doorbell ring at their new house. “It was strange,” she remarked, explaining that the experience was entirely new for the family, including their dogs who had never encountered a doorbell before.

The Obamas decided to stay in Washington, D.C. after Barack’s presidency ended to allow their daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, to continue their education and stay close to their friends. “I knew when Malia would want to come home for breaks she’d want to come home to her friends, so we stayed in D.C,” Michelle explained.

Reflecting on their final helicopter ride on Air Force One, Michelle shared that it felt more like a vacation than the end of an era. However, returning to a new home underscored just how different their lives had become. “It was odd,” she noted, adjusting to the simple pleasures of everyday life, like opening her own front door or sitting on the porch to enjoy the sun.

Michelle also spoke about the challenges of acclimating to a life less encumbered by security measures. Despite still having barricades and secret service, she found joy in the little things—like being able to walk into her kitchen or listen to the sounds of the neighborhood. For her, these small acts of normalcy were “huge” and marked a significant change from their time in the White House.

Reflecting on their years in the presidential residence, Michelle described them as “wonderful,” but also acknowledged how “abnormal” they were. The transition back to a more ordinary life, she admitted, was a revelation for her family, who finally realized just how “sheltered” they had been during those eight years.

The Obamas’ journey from the White House to a quieter life in Washington, D.C. offers a glimpse into the complexities of leaving behind such a public role and the challenges of finding normalcy again.

</excerpt>

Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle endorsed the current vice president, Kamala Harris, for the position of US president on Friday.

“Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us,” Obama posted on X.

Michelle Obama, the former First Lady, expressed her pride and excitement, stating, “I’m so proud of my girl, Kamala. Barack and I are so excited to endorse her as the Democratic nominee because of her positivity, sense of humor, and ability to bring light and hope to people all across the country. We’ve got your back.”

Harris, 59, secured enough pledged delegates to win the Democratic presidential nomination, just days after incumbent president Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election.

In a letter, Biden stated, “It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Barack and Michelle Obama previously campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Biden in 2020, participating in major rallies just before Election Day.

Biden’s decision came amid increasing pressure from the Democratic Party, concerned about his ability to win the election at age 81 following a challenging debate performance against Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Biden, who served two terms as Obama’s vice president, transitioned from the Senate to a national role through this selection.

Although Obama had publicly supported Biden’s re-election bid, he privately acknowledged to his allies that Biden’s campaign faced significant challenges after the difficult debate, as reported by the Washington Post.

</excerpt>

In a heartfelt statement, former First Lady Michelle Obama and family members announced the passing of Marian Robinson, aged 86. A lifelong resident of Chicago, Robinson’s journey took an unexpected turn in 2009 when she relocated to the White House to support her granddaughters, Malia and Sasha, following Barack Obama’s presidency.

Initially hesitant about the move, Marian Robinson quickly became an indispensable part of the Obama family’s life in Washington. As Malia and Sasha, then aged 10 and 7, navigated the complexities of life in the White House, their grandmother’s unwavering presence provided solace and stability.

Michelle Obama’s memoir, “Becoming,” vividly illustrates the profound impact of Robinson’s love and support on her and her daughters. Despite her proximity to power, Robinson maintained a humble demeanor, cherishing moments of anonymity that allowed her to move freely in and out of the White House.

Accompanying her daughter and granddaughters on numerous international trips, Robinson embraced new cultures and experiences with an open heart. Her advocacy for education and unwavering dedication to her family underscored her character, shaping the lives of her children, who achieved academic excellence.

Born on July 30, 1937, Robinson leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. Her passing marks the end of an era, yet her contributions will be cherished by all who knew her. Marian Shields Robinson’s life exemplified the power of family, leaving an indelible mark on the Obama family and the nation as a whole.

Former US President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, will return to the White House on Wednesday for the unveiling of their official portraits. Joe Biden, who was his vice president at the White House, will host them as Obama returns after almost five years of leaving his office.

It is customary for a former president to return to the White House for the unveiling of the portraits during their successor’s tenure. But the Obamas did not have their ceremony while President Donald Trump held power.

During Obama’s tenure, he hosted former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, for their portrait unveilings in 2012.

The Obamas and Bidens are said to have great and close relationships, which were formed during former President Obama’s presidency.

Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre said, “The current president and first lady will be honored to host the unveiling of the portraits, which will hang on the walls of the White House forever as reminders of the power of hope and change.”

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the White House East Room.
