The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 officially, after a four-year suspension. The Yatra, of great spiritual importance to Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists, will be conducted between June and August. The government has picked 750 pilgrims through a computerised and gender-balanced draw to ensure an inclusive and transparent process.

These yatris will go by batches through two fully motorable routes—Lipulekh and Nathu La. The MEA has also published exhaustive travel information on the official Yatra portal.

Fair Selection Process for the Pilgrimage

On May 21, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh organized the digital draw from New Delhi. As many as 5,561 individuals had registered online for the Yatra successfully. The computerized draw selected 750 names randomly, ensuring gender balance.

The ministry sent out intimation to all winners informing them via SMS and email. Pilgrims can now access their travel details by logging on to the official Yatra website, https://kmy.gov.in.

Route Details and Group Allocation

This year’s Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will be conducted on motorable roads only, eliminating the challenging treks. Five groups of 50 pilgrims each will travel through the Lipulekh route. The Nathu La route will also have ten groups of 50 pilgrims. Two liaison officers, trained for the purpose, will accompany each of these groups to guide and assist them throughout the journey.

These routes provide a safer and easier route to the sacred sites—Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet.

Yatra Resumes After Diplomatic Progress

The COVID-19 pandemic and the military confrontation with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh caused India to halt the Yatra in 2020.

The tensions dissipated after the two nations disengaged from the last two points of friction—Demchok and Depsang—on October 21 last year. In January, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong in Beijing. The two agreed to resume the Yatra and brought in some people-centric steps to stabilise bilateral relations.

The revival of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 reflects a new spirit of collaboration between India and China. It also provides pilgrims with a special chance to undertake a spiritually uplifting journey many cherish dearly. With better access and robust logistic support, the pilgrimage is expected to be safe and memorable.

</excerpt>

Spokesperson of Ministry of External affairs of India Randhir Jaiswal on Tuesday responded to questions regarding reports over Pakistan’s Kirana Hills nuclear facility in relation to India’s Operation Sindoor military strikes, stating that it was up to the Pakistani side to respond to allegations being leveled over it.

Social Media Speculation on Nuclear Leakage Addressed

During Tuesday’s press briefing, Randhir Jaiswal was questioned over social media buzz on ‘nuclear leakage’ in Pakistan following Indian strikes.

“Talk of Egyptian or American aircraft those are questions for them (Pakistan) to answer, not for us. Our position was made very clear during the defence briefing. As for your question, the Pakistani minister has already made some remarks on that,” he said.

India Clarifies Military Action Was Conventional

Clarifying India’s stance, he added, “Our military action was entirely within the conventional domain. There were some reports suggesting that Pakistan’s National Command Authority would convene, but those were later denied. In fact, Pakistan’s government representatives have officially denied this on record.”

“As you know, India has a firm stand that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail or allow cross-border terrorism to be conducted, invoking it in conversations with various countries, we’ve also cautioned that they subscribing to such scenarios would hurt them in their own region.”

On Trump’s Remarks and India’s Strategic Doctrine

Reacting to US President Donald Trump’s comments, in which he said the US was responsible for averting a possible nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan that would have killed millions, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal replied, ”The military action on our part was completely within the conventional sphere.” There were some reports, though, that Pakistan National Command Authority would sit on 10th May but this was denied later by them. Pakistan FM has denied himself the nuclear aspect on record.

He reiterated India’s consistent policy on such issues and said, “As you are aware, India has a clear position that it will never succumb to nuclear blackmail or permit cross-border terrorism to be carried out invoking it. In discussions with countries, we have also warned that their adhering to such situations could cause harm to them in their own area.”

Jaiswal Slams Pakistan’s Attempt to Spin Operation Sindoor

Randhir Jaiswal, while reacting to the comments of Pakistan foreign minister Ishaq Dar in an interview to foreign media, said that Pakistan’s terrorism centers in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad, and other places were leveled to the ground. Its army power was greatly diminished by India.

“In the last week, as a result of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has seen its terrorism centres in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad and other places destroyed. Thereafter, its military capabilities were significantly degraded by us and key airbases effectively put out of action. If the Pakistani FM wishes to project these as achievements, he is welcome to do so. Where India is concerned, our stand was clear and consistent from the start. We would target terrorist infrastructure operating out of Pakistan. If the Pakistani military stayed out, there would be no problem. If they fired on us, we would respond suitably. Till the night of 9th May, Pakistan was threatening India with a massive assault. Once their attempt failed on 10th May morning and they received a devastating Indian counter-response, their tune changed and their DGMO eventually reached out to us…”

#WATCH | Delhi: On Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s interview to foreign media, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says, “In the last week, as a result of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has seen its terrorism centres in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad and other places… pic.twitter.com/AFiaNeNaFx

India Maintains Consistent Posture as Pakistan Buckles

He highlighted that India maintained a consistent approach throughout, while Pakistan’s posture shifted only after its airbases were struck.

“…In essence, India’s position remained the same; Pakistan’s position changed on 10th May morning after its airbases were effectively put out of action. All you have to do is to look at who called who to negotiate the terms of the cessation of firing. You all know that satellite pictures are available commercially. I urge you to look at the sites which Pakistan claims to have attacked in India. Contrast it with these sites and places which we successfully targeted and destroyed. That will give you a clear answer. Claiming victory is an old habit…”

</excerpt>

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declared on Thursday that the country will continue delivering firm military responses if Pakistan does not stop attacking Indian military installations.

Indian Forces Hit Pakistani Air Defence Targets

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi addressed the media Thursday morning, stating that Indian Armed Forces had targeted Pakistani Air Defence Radars and related infrastructure at multiple locations. “It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” she confirmed.

She also noted that India’s response mirrored the intensity of Pakistan’s actions. “It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” she repeated during the briefing.

India’s Retaliation Remains Measured and Focused

Referring to Operation Sindoor carried out on May 7, Colonel Qureshi reiterated that India’s actions were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory.” She reminded the press that India deliberately avoided targeting Pakistani military bases. However, she warned that any future assault on Indian military sites would prompt a “suitable response.”

“On the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles,” she said. These attacks were intercepted and neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems, she added. Debris from these attacks is being recovered and used as evidence of Pakistani aggression.

Pakistan Intensifies Shelling Across LoC

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh highlighted that Pakistan has escalated unprovoked shelling along the Line of Control (LoC). The increased attacks involved Mortars and heavy Artillery in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri.

“Sixteen innocent lives have been lost, including three women and five children, due to Pakistani firing,” she said. Singh added that India had no choice but to respond militarily to stop the mortar and artillery fire from across the LoC. “Indian Armed Forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military,” she said.

India Slams Pakistan’s Global Terror Track Record

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri criticised Pakistan for shielding terrorist groups. Speaking about the recent Pahalgam attack during a UN Security Council session, Misri noted that Pakistan opposed any mention of The Resistance Front (TRF) even though the group had claimed responsibility twice.

“This is after TRF claimed the responsibility of the attack not once, but twice,” he pointed out.

Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh both emphasized again that India’s responses were “non-escalatory, precise, and measured.”

Misri reiterated that India’s objective was not to escalate tensions. “No military targets have been targeted; only terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan has been hit,” he clarified.

State Funerals for Terrorists?

Taking a veiled swipe at Pakistan, Misri said, “As far as we are concerned, the individuals eliminated at these facilities were terrorists. Giving terrorists state funerals may be a practice in Pakistan,” he remarked.

He added, “Of course our relationship is such that we are doing anything that is part of our human endeavour from part of our bilateral engagement … so all these bilateral issue will be discussed and we are very positive that the visit will give a further boost to our bilateral ties.”Jaiswal also highlighted the ongoing discussions between India and the US regarding a potential trade agreement. “We are talking to the US side so that a bilateral trade agreement can be done,” he said.

Vance and his family concluded their three-day visit to Italy, where he held bilateral meetings and attended religious services during the Easter weekend.
The Us Vice President arrived in Italy on Friday and held expanded bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. On Saturday, he met with Church officials, including Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The Vice President concluded his visit on Easter Sunday after a meeting with Pope Francis.

“This killing follows a pattern of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government even as the perpetrators of previous such events roam with impunity. We condemn this incident and once again remind the interim government to live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities, including Hindus, without inventing excuses or making distinctions.”

The postmortem of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, who was allegedly abducted and beaten to death earlier this week in Dinajpur district’s Biral upazila, Bangladesh, has been completed, police said on Saturday.

Roy was a resident of Basudebpur village under Shatagram Union and served as vice-president of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad. He was widely respected within the local Hindu community.

“It is not yet known what the postmortem report contains,” Abdus Sabur, officer-in-charge of Biral Police Station, told ANI over the phone. “We will take action after getting the postmortem report,” he said, noting that no case had been filed by the family. “We are busy with our father’s funeral. That’s why no case has been filed,” Bhabesh’s son, Sapan Roy, told ANI.

Sapan said , “Four young men from the area came on motorcycles and took Bhabesh Roy away from home.” He added, “My father [was] brought home unconscious and admitted to the hospital. The doctors declared him dead.”

According to earlier accounts, Bhabesh had received a phone call around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. His wife, Shantana Roy, told The Daily Star that the call was allegedly made by the perpetrators to confirm his presence. About 30 minutes later, four men arrived and forcibly took him. Witnesses said he was taken to Narabari village and brutally assaulted.

That evening, his unconscious body was returned to his family on a van. Locals helped rush him to the Biral Upazila Health Complex and later to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was sent for postmortem.

Shantana claimed she could identify two of the attackers. Police said a case is being prepared and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.

India continues to work with Russian authorities for their safe return.
</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs gave an update on Friday regarding the Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army during the war with Ukraine. According to MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the whereabouts of 16 individuals remain unknown. The Russian Government has classified them as “missing.”

16 Indian Nationals Missing, 12 Confirmed Dead

As of January 17, the MEA verified that 126 Indian nationals were reported to be serving in the Russian military. Of them, 96 Indian nationals have returned to India, and their discharges from the Russian Armed Forces are already confirmed. However, there are 18 Indians still on duty, with 16 Indians yet to be contacted. Sadly, 12 Indians have lost their lives while in the Russian Army.

“We are working very actively on getting them released and brought back home, especially those whose whereabouts are not known,” Jaiswal said during a media briefing.

Death of Binil TB and Other Injuries Update

The MEA’s update comes after the reported death of Binil TB, a man from Kerala who had been serving in the Russian Army. Binil, originally from Thrissur, died while fighting for Russia in the Ukraine conflict. The tragic news was made public by his relative earlier this week. Additionally, another Indian national from Kerala sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment in Moscow.

“The death of Binil Babu is highly unfortunate. We have condoled the death to his family. Our embassy is coordinating with the Russian authorities to make sure that the mortal remains are brought back to India immediately. The injured one is undergoing treatment in Moscow. We hope he comes back soon.

India Pushes for Early Discharge of Indian Nationals in Russian Army

India has called on Russia to release all Indian nationals recruited into the Russian military. Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue during his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July of the previous year. The Indian government has continued pressing the Russian authorities to hasten the discharge of these nationals.

</excerpt>

India declared on Friday that Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will travel to Dhaka on December 9 for foreign office discussions, amidst increased tensions between the two countries regarding the treatment of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh.

“The foreign secretary is set to visit Bangladesh for foreign office discussions on December 9. He is scheduled to meet his counterpart and participate in several other meetings,” stated external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a media briefing.

The organized discussions, led by the foreign secretaries, are intended to tackle critical bilateral matters. “We look forward to this meeting,” Jaiswal further commented.

This signifies the first high-level Indian visit to Bangladesh since Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus took charge of the caretaker government in August, following extensive protests that resulted in former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning.

Tensions have escalated in light of targeted assaults on Bangladesh’s Hindu minority and the detention of Bangladeshi monk Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition allegations. India has communicated its hope for a “fair and transparent legal process” in Das’s situation, with Jaiswal asserting, “We hope that these legal rights will be honored and that the trial will be fair and transparent. ”

India has also raised alarms over escalating extremist discourse and growing violence against Hindus, urging the interim government to meet its duty to safeguard minorities.

Relations further deteriorated after protests in Agartala ended with a group invading the Bangladeshi consulate, vandalizing property, and desecrating the national flag. While India deemed the event “deeply regrettable,” Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma to voice its protest against the violation and recalled its senior diplomats for discussions.

The block came shortly after the outlet aired a press conference featuring India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra.

Poonawalla criticized Canada for allegedly allowing anti-India and pro-Khalistani speech within its borders while banning a media outlet simply for airing statements by Indian officials. “Canada’s hypocrisy on free speech is visible when they permit their soil to be used for hate speech, divisive speech, and pro-Khalistani rhetoric, yet block The Australia Today’s social media platforms for featuring the remarks of Jaishankar and Wong,” Poonawalla told ANI.

Publication’s Response to Canadian Restrictions

In response to the Canadian restrictions, Jitarth Jai Bharadwaj, the Managing Editor of The Australia Today, expressed gratitude for the support received from various news outlets and journalists. Bharadwaj voiced disappointment in Canada’s stance on media freedom, stating, “This shows that the Canadian government doesn’t truly believe in the principle of free speech.” He assured that The Australia Today would continue to advocate for open media despite the obstacles.

Indian Government Condemns Canada’s Actions as Hypocrisy

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) joined in criticizing the Canadian government’s decision, with MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal calling it a clear instance of “hypocrisy.” Jaiswal stated that the blocking of The Australia Today, an outlet important to the Indian diaspora, further demonstrates Canada’s contradictory approach to free speech. “The social media handles and pages of this particular outlet have been blocked and are unavailable for viewers in Canada,” Jaiswal said.

At the Canberra press conference, Jaishankar also rebuked Canada, arguing that the allegations made by the Canadian government lacked specific evidence and that Canadian authorities had given political space to anti-India elements. He called the surveillance of Indian diplomats by Canadian authorities “unacceptable.”

Poonawalla also took aim at opposition parties in India, accusing them of not condemning Canada’s actions. He argued that some opposition leaders focus on criticizing their own government rather than addressing Canada’s “double standards” on freedom of speech and standing up for the Indian community facing hostility from Khalistani groups in Canada. “It is unfortunate that, when such blatant double standards are shown by Canada, some opposition members in India continue to criticize their own government rather than standing up for the Hindus under attack,” Poonawalla said.

The incident has added further strain to diplomatic relations between India and Canada, with free speech and issues surrounding pro-Khalistani activities at the center of the ongoing tensions.

</excerpt>

Jitarth Jai Bharadwaj, managing editor of The Australia Today, reaffirmed the publication’s commitment to open media despite a recent ban by Canadian authorities.

Prominent diaspora news outlet The Australia Today voiced deep concern on Friday after Canadian authorities reportedly blocked its social media accounts following coverage of a press conference featuring India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong. The restriction has sparked a diplomatic row, with India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) criticizing Canada’s stance on freedom of speech.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswalcommented on Canada’s actions, stating that blocking The Australia Today’s content “highlights the hypocrisy of Canada towards freedom of speech.”

In a statement, Bharadwaj reaffirmed The Australia Today’s dedication to open media. “We at The Australia Today would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every news outlet, journalist, and supporter who stood by us during a challenging time,” Bharadwaj said.

He continued, “The recent restriction and ban on our interview with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the press conference with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on social media, under orders from the Canadian government, have been difficult for our team and those who value free and open journalism.”

MEA Condemns Canada’s Actions

Expressing gratitude to supporters, Bharadwaj added, “Despite these restrictions, your unwavering support has been a beacon of strength for us. Whether it was sharing our coverage on other platforms, voicing concerns about press freedom, or simply offering encouragement, every action made a difference.”

The MEA further condemned Canada’s actions, calling them hypocritical. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasised that blocking The Australia Today’s content “highlights the hypocrisy of Canada towards freedom of speech.” During the press conference, Jaishankar criticized Canada’s approach, pointing out a lack of evidence in its accusations and expressing concerns over the “political space” given to anti-India elements in Canada.

Jaiswal also mentioned the recent violence at Brampton’s Hindu Sabha Mandir on November 3 near Toronto.

Bharadwaj concluded, “We remain steadfast in our mission to bring important stories and voices to the public, undeterred by these obstacles… We will continue to advocate for an open and inclusive media landscape.”

MEA joint secretary J P Singh discussed India and Afghanistan relations with Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, the son of the former supreme leader of the group and emir of Afghanistan and the acting defence minister.

According to a report by the Times of India, Singh, who is responsible for the handling of matters pertaining to Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran, travelled to Kabul on Wednesday to hold the meeting with Yaqub.

The Indian official also met Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and former Afghan president Hamid Karzai during this visit as India tries to engage more with the country.

Talking about the meeting, the Taliban foreign ministry said, “In this meeting, the two sides emphasized their common desire to expand bilateral relations, especially in the fields of humanitarian cooperation and other issues, and expressed their interest in strengthening further interactions between Afghanistan and India.”

An anonymous Afghan official told TOI that the meeting signals India’s readiness to increase not only its humanitarian support to Afghanistan but also its involvement in reconstruction efforts, despite not formally recognizing the Kabul regime.

Meanwhile, the Taliban, for quite some time, has been urging New Delhi to authorise the appointment of an ambassador from its administration in the Afghan Embassy, saying its ties with India are important.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday strongly condemned the attack on the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, carried out by individuals waving Khalistan flags. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal issued an official statement expressing deep concern over the incident, stating, “We condemn the acts of violence perpetrated by extremists and separatists at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton yesterday.”

Incident Details and Reactions

Videos of the attack circulated widely on social media, showing a group of men armed with sticks assaulting devotees outside the temple. In response to the violence, the MEA called on the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to ensure the protection of places of worship from such attacks and demanded that those involved in the violence be prosecuted. The MEA emphasized, “We remain deeply concerned about the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada.”

Khalistani Extremism Decried by Canadian Officials

Condemning the attack, Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya remarked that Khalistani extremists have “crossed the red line.” Sharing footage of the incident on X, he highlighted the severity of the situation, stating, “The attack by Khalistanis on Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the premises of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton shows how deep and brazen Khalistani violent extremism has become in Canada.”

Prime Minister Trudeau’s Response In light of the incident, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau labeled the violence as “unacceptable,” reiterating the importance of the right to practice religion freely and safely for all Canadians. In a post on X, he stated, “The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely.”

Diplomatic Tensions Heightened This attack comes amidst rising tensions between India and Canada, following unsubstantiated allegations by Ottawa accusing the Indian government of involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The diplomatic spat has led to both nations expelling each other’s envoys. Recently, Canada identified New Delhi as a cyberthreat, suggesting state-sponsored espionage activities against it. India has consistently dismissed these claims and urged the Trudeau government to provide credible evidence to support its allegations.

</excerpt>

India and China have committed to jointly upholding peace and tranquility along the border areas during the 31st meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC), held in Beijing on Thursday. The discussions focused on maintaining stability by bilateral agreements and protocols, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India reported.

The meeting saw a “frank, constructive, and forward-looking” exchange of views on the current situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both sides agreed to enhance communication through diplomatic and military channels to narrow differences and work toward an early resolution of outstanding issues.

The Indian delegation was led by Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary (East Asia), MEA, while the Chinese side was represented by Hong Liang, Director General of the Boundary and Oceanic Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The discussions were guided by the outcomes of the meetings between the Foreign Ministers of India and China held in Astana and Vientiane in July 2024, where both nations agreed to accelerate discussions on border issues. The two sides reiterated the importance of restoring peace and tranquility along the LAC as a foundation for normalizing bilateral relations.

Both countries emphasized their commitment to upholding peace on the ground and respecting the LAC as per the agreements, protocols, and understandings reached between their governments. The restoration of peace and respect for the LAC were deemed essential for resuming normal bilateral ties, according to the MEA statement.

The Indian delegation also met with the Vice Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the visit. This latest meeting builds on the previous round of diplomatic talks held in August, where both nations agreed to uphold peace along the LAC and work towards resolving outstanding issues.

Tensions between India and China have been high since the Galwan Valley clash in 2020, which occurred amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, both sides have maintained significant military presence along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh, particularly near Patrolling Point 15, a key friction point. Over 50,000 Indian soldiers have been deployed at forward posts along the LAC since 2020 to deter any unilateral attempts to change the status quo.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recently unveiled alarming statistics, highlighting the presence of 3,042 fraudulent agents who have been duping individuals with false promises of overseas employment. These agents have been listed on the ‘eMigrate’ portal, a resource designed to protect potential migrants from scams. While Punjab and Gujarat are often recognized for their large numbers of youth aspiring to work abroad, a new report reveals that Andhra Pradesh has outpaced them, becoming the state with the highest concentration of fraudulent agents.

Andhra Pradesh Leads in Number of Fake Agents

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the state with the most significant number of fraudulent agents, with 498 names identified on the eMigrate portal. Following closely is Uttar Pradesh, which accounts for 418 of the total fraudulent agents listed. These figures, which are current up to June 2024, were compiled based on complaints from affected migrants or their families. These complaints have spurred investigations by state police forces, Indian Missions, and Foreign Situation Centres.

Growing Concern Across States

The MEA’s report also sheds light on the widespread nature of this issue, with other states like Tamil Nadu (372), Maharashtra (337), and Delhi (299) also reporting a high number of fraudulent agents. Surprisingly, traditional migration hubs like Punjab and Gujarat reported fewer fake agents, with 209 and 59 respectively.

Efforts to Curb the Menace

In a bid to prevent further exploitation, the MEA regularly updates the list of fraudulent agents on the eMigrate portal. As of June 2024, the names of 3,042 fake agents have been made public. Additionally, the ministry provides several resources for those seeking employment or education abroad, including the MADAD, CPGAMS, and eMigrate portals. A dedicated helpline is also available for migrants to register complaints.

State-Wise Breakdown of Fake Agents (Till June 2024)

</excerpt>

On Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide grant assistance for the launch of the Munal satellite. According to a statement from the MEA, Randhir Jaiswal, the MEA spokesperson, stated that the satellite was developed in Nepal by the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and will be launched on NSIL’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle at no cost.

In a post on X, Jaiswal said, “An important milestone in India-Nepal Space cooperation. Today, @MEAIndia and @NSIL_India signed an MoU for grant assistance for the launch of the Munal satellite. The satellite developed in Nepal, under the aegis of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), will be launched on NSIL’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle on a gratis basis.”

Surendra Thapa, Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Nepal and one of the attendees at the event, praised the relationship between India and Nepal.

“Thanks to the MEA for inviting me to this event and witnessing this historic event. India and Nepal have engaged in every field. Now this engagement has gone to outer space. We used to say that Nepal-India relations are as high as the Himalayas and as deep as the Indian Ocean. Now we can say that it is as high as our Munal Satellite,” he said.

According to a statement, the Launch Service Agreement for the Munal Satellite, between NSIL and NAST, was signed on January 4 in Nepal during External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to co-chair the 7th JCM meeting.

The Munal Satellite is an indigenous creation developed in Nepal under the guidance of NAST. APN, a Nepali space startup, helped Nepali students with the design and construction of the satellite. Its goal is to create a database of vegetation density on Earth’s surface. The statement noted that the satellite is anticipated to be launched soon aboard NSIL’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.

</excerpt>

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed concerns in the Lok Sabha about Indian nationals recruited into the Russian Army. He reported that out of 91 Indians recruited, 14 have been discharged, and 69 are still awaiting release. Jaishankar emphasized that the government is taking this issue very seriously.

Responding to a question from Congress MP Adoor Prakash, Jaishankar explained that many of these Indian nationals were recruited under false pretenses. He stated, “We have 91 cases of Indian nationals recruited into the Russian Army. Unfortunately, eight have passed away, 14 have been discharged or returned with our help, and 69 are still awaiting release.”

Jaishankar added that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he had personally raised these issues with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin during their visit to Moscow last month. He assured that President Putin had promised that any Indian nationals currently in the Russian Army would be discharged and released.

However, Jaishankar noted that Russian authorities claim these nationals entered into contracts for military service, a position the Indian government disputes.

In response to inquiries about actions taken, Jaishankar mentioned that a criminal case has been filed. The CBI has registered a case against 19 individuals and entities involved in human trafficking. Investigations have identified 10 traffickers, with four individuals already in judicial custody.

AIMIM Chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also questioned Jaishankar, asking if the Indian Embassy in Russia would ensure the return of the 69 Indian nationals and if the government would cancel the passports of those involved in the scam. Jaishankar confirmed that the remains of eight deceased nationals have been sent back to India and assured ongoing inquiries into the 19 cases.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Russia on July 8-9, for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit, saw him raise the issue of Indian nationals in the Russian Army with President Putin. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra reported that the Russian government promised an “early discharge” of these individuals.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had previously uncovered a major human trafficking network that deceived Indians with promises of lucrative jobs abroad, only to send them to the Russia-Ukraine war zone. The network operated through social media and local contacts, luring victims with the promise of high-paying jobs in Russia.

Why The 8th Navy Officer Is Still In Qatar?

Answering this question, the ministry of external affairs has recently issued a statement on Thursday.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal revealed that an 8th veteran Indian navy officer is still there in the middle east country ‘due to some requirements’.

Issuing a statement MEA spokesperson said, ‘the eighth ex-Indian Navy Officer is still in Qatar due to some requirements.’

Earlier On February MEA declared that seven ex-Indian navy officers have come back to India. At the same time, the ministry also expressed appreciation for Qatar’s decision to handle their release and making them return.

In addition, it also appreciated Qatar’s Amir for the release and enable the homecoming of 7 ex-Indian navy officers.

Meanwhile in the Thursday press conference, MEA spokesperson also demanded Canada to initiate action against various anti-India, who are present in the north American country. These words were spoken, when questions were raised over the reports of Canada putting charges on two individuals, who threatened country’s PM Justin Trudeau on social media. But there was lack of action against those who threatened Indian leaders & diplomats.

</excerpt>

On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs has recently claimed that India had gotten a ‘diplomatic note’ from Dhaka.

It has ‘protested’ recent ‘shelter’ comments made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee.

Issuing a weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said ‘I can confirm that we have received a diplomatic note, a communication from the Bangladesh side protesting the comments made by the West Bengal CM. It is essentially on the lines described in the reports.’

Furthermore, citing the 7th schedule of the constitution, the spokesperson of MEA Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that foreign or international matters are the ‘sole prerogative’ of central government.

Elaborating his point, he said ‘I would underline that under the 7th Schedule, List 1 – Union List, Item 10, of our Constitution, the conduct of foreign affairs and all matters which bring the Union into relation with any foreign country are the sole prerogative of the Union government.’

Mamata Bannerjee Comments

For those unversed, just last week, West Bengal CM Mamata Bannerjee recently made a statement saying that her government will give ‘shelter’ to ‘helpless individuals’ from neighbouring Bangladesh who demand refuge. This statement came around the time, when protests against quota is currently taking place.

Later, while attending martyr’s day in Kolkata she said ‘Don’t worry if any of your family members or relatives are in Bangladesh for work or study. We’re ready to help them return back.’

Moreover, she also added that she can’t say much as Bangladesh is a different country and whatever will be said, it will be said by the Indian government.

But notably the TMC head also emphasized that if ‘helpless individuals’ come towards Bengal, they’ll provide shelter because United Nations mandated resolution allows neighbouring countries to help those in trouble.

Afterward she said ‘I urge everyone not to comment on Bangladesh (issue), to avoid falling into provocations. We feel compassion and sympathy for those whose blood is shed’.

Protests In Bangladesh

Meanwhile, Bangladesh is currently witnessing huge protests for the reformation of quota systems. In this system, seats in civil government jobs are reserved for a particular group. This group also includes descendants of 1971 war veterans.

Due to the ongoing protests, it has resulted in the fatalities of around 100 people. But currently, Bangladesh’s supreme court has taken matters into their hands. It has reduced the quota for war veterans from 30 percent to 5 percent.

In addition, it has left allocation of seats to the merit and the rest 2% will be reserved for minority communities, disabled and transgender people. Reports Al-Jazeera.

The Indian High Commission arranged safe and secure travel for the students to border crossings or airports, he said in a weekly media briefing. Jaiswal expressed hope that Bangladesh will return to normalcy soon.

On being asked about the number of students returning, Jaiswal said, “So far, we have had more than 6,700 Indian students who have come back from Bangladesh. We have taken excellent cooperation from the Bangladeshi government. Our High Commission has arranged for their safe and secure travel to the border crossing points or to the airport, as the case may be. They also have several helplines.”

“Both our High Commission and Assistant High Commissions are operating 24/7 helplines. All the people who are there, our students and nationals, can reach out to them, and they have been rendering whatever assistance has been requested. We are hopeful that the situation in the country will return to normal soon,” he added.

He said India was monitoring the situation in Bangladesh and considered it an internal matter of that country.

He commented, “We are aware of the situation in the country. We have been following the developments in that country. India considers the ongoing situation in the country to be the internal matter of Bangladesh. With the support and cooperation of the Bangladesh government, we were able to arrange for the safe return of our students, which we deeply appreciate. We share warm and friendly ties with Bangladesh and are hopeful that the situation will return to normal soon.”

The protests in Bangladesh came because of demands to revise the quota system for civil service jobs that reserve positions for various groups, including descendants of veterans who fought in the 1971 independence war with Pakistan. Anger had been building up due to students rallying against a new policy giving government jobs to the relatives of freedom fighters; violence ensued, along with attacks at state television headquarters and police booths located in Dhaka. This saw the government enforce a curfew, shut schools, and suspend mobile and internet services nationwide.

Following protests that left over 100 people dead, Bangladesh’s Supreme Court slashed the quota for relatives of freedom fighters to 5 percent from 30 percent, leaving 93 percent of jobs determined by merit and 2 percent reserved for ethnic minorities, transgender people, and the disabled, local reports quoted by Al Jazeera said.

</excerpt>

In a major development in Prajwal Revanna’s obscene video scene, the Karnataka government sources have recently disclosed, that the Ministry of External Affairs is processing the cancellation of JD(S)MP, Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport.

Further, the ministry has also confirmed, it has indeed received a letter from Karnataka’s government for diplomatic passport cancellation. Currently, the request is being processed.

What Happens If MEA Cancels Diplomatic Passport

Moreover, if ministry of External affairs indeed cancels Prajwal’s diplomatic Passport, it will be practically impossible for revanna to stay in a foreign country and would be forced to return.

This incident comes around the time, when congress has recently declared in a letter, that it is indeed ‘shameful’ that revanna has fled to Germany using his diplomatic passport during the ongoing Lok Sabha election.

Later, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, also alleged in his letter, that JDS MP has abused his diplomatic privileges to flee the country and it’s a matter of grave concern, that he’s still absconding.

In addition, he also expressed his unhappiness over the fact, that CM’s previous letter was not acted upon, “despite the gravity of the situation.”

However, earlier this month, the spokesperson of MEA Randhir Jaiswal has recently revealed, that revanna didn’t sought political clearance for the trip.

“No political clearance was either sought from or issued by MEA in respect of the travel of the said MP to Germany.” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, addressed reports of a fourth Indian arrested by Canada in connection with the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Jaiswal stated during a press briefing that while Canada has not formally communicated the arrest, India has not received any request for consular access either.

Last week, Canadian police announced the arrest of a fourth suspect, Amandeep Singh (22), allegedly involved in Nijjar’s killing. Singh was already in custody of Peel Regional Police in Ontario for unrelated firearms charges. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) in British Columbia charged Singh with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder based on evidence gathered.

Singh, an Indian national, resided in Canada across multiple locations. However, investigators withheld further details to maintain the integrity of ongoing investigations and legal proceedings.

This development follows the recent arrest of three other Indian nationals—Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh—in Edmonton. They face charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Nijjar’s homicide. Despite speculation in Canadian media, Canadian authorities have not provided evidence linking the arrests to India.

The killing of Nijjar led to diplomatic tensions between Canada and India after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau implicated India, a claim refuted by India as “absurd” and “motivated.” The MEA reiterated that Canada had not furnished specific evidence or information regarding the case and had not formally communicated the arrests of the three Indians involved.

Regarding consular access for the arrested individuals, the MEA clarified that no request had been received from the Canadian side as the accused had not sought consular access yet.

The advisory highlights that deceptive job offers for roles such as digital sales and marketing executives, or customer support service are being promoted by dubious organizations involved in call center scams and cryptocurrency fraud in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Laos. These companies have agents stationed in various locations, including Dubai, Bangkok, India, and Singapore, who are actively recruiting Indian citizens.
The ministry explained, “Visa on Arrival in Thailand or Laos does not permit employment, and the Lao authorities do not issue work permits to Indian nationals coming to Laos on such visas.” Thus, Indian nationals are urged to be cautious of such fraudulent or exploitative job offers.

</excerpt>

In the midst of a diplomatic standoff, the Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer is scheduled for an official visit to India on Thursday, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs. The statement further outlines that during the visit, Minister Zameer will engage in discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar regarding various bilateral and regional matters of shared concern.

“Moosa Zameer, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives will be in India on an official visit on 09 May 2024. During his visit to New Delhi, Foreign Minister Zameer will meet the External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar for discussions on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest,” MEA statement said.

“Maldives is India’s key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and Foreign Minister Zameer’s visit is expected to lend further momentum to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries,” it added.

Previously, the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Foreign Minister Mansoor would embark on a visit to India from May 8 to May 10.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Moosa Zameer will undertake an Official Visit to India from 8 to 10 May 2024,” the release said.

“During the visit, Minister Zameer will meet with India’s Minister of External Affairs Dr S. Jaishankar and hold discussions in deepening and expanding the longstanding partnership between the Maldives and India,” it added.

Significantly, this marks the inaugural official visit of Foreign Minister Zameer to India since assuming office. The timing of the visit coincides with India’s announcement of withdrawing its military personnel from Maldives before May 10.

During the 4th meeting of the bilateral High-Level Core Group on May 3, India and Maldives conducted a comprehensive review of the plan to replace Indian military personnel stationed in the Island nation by May 10. They acknowledged the commitment of the government to complete the troop replacement before the specified deadline. Prior to this, the Maldives government under Mohamed Muizzu formally requested the withdrawal of Indian troops from Male.

According to a press release from the Maldives Foreign Ministry, both sides assessed the current state of bilateral cooperation. “Discussions were held on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including development and defence cooperation.”

“Both sides noted with satisfaction that the Government of India will replace military personnel at the last of the three aviation platforms by May 10, and all the logistical arrangements are going ahead as per schedule,” the press release added.

It was additionally decided that the fifth meeting of the High-Level Core Group will convene in Male on a date mutually acceptable within the month of June or July. The Ministry of External Affairs had previously announced last month that the initial group of Indian personnel in the Maldives had been substituted with technical personnel.

Previously, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that India and the Maldives had reached consensus on a series of practical solutions to facilitate the ongoing operation of Indian aviation platforms, which offer humanitarian and medical evacuation services to the Maldivian population. Last month, the MEA also announced that the initial contingent of Indian technical personnel had arrived in the Maldives to take over from the defense personnel.

India and the Maldives have conducted two high-level core group meetings, with the third meeting anticipated to occur shortly. The withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives was the primary focus of Muizzu’s party’s election campaign. Presently, there are approximately 70 Indian troops stationed in the Maldives, alongside a Dornier 228 maritime patrol aircraft and two HAL Dhruv helicopters.
