</excerpt>

Saurabh Bhardwaj, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Minister of Health, Urban Development, and Water, said on Sunday that the election for Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will take place on April 26.

Bhardwaj, a nominated member of the MCD, told “It is necessary to hold the election in April.” “Incumbent Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has set April 26 as the date for this,” claimed Saurabh Bhardwaj, a Delhi government minister and AAP politician. “I hope the election will be peaceful if the LG Office follows all rules and regulations,” he added.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Shelly Oberoi completed her 38-day tenure at the Mayoral post on 31st March. As per the norms, the election process needs to be completed before April 30.

Bhardwaj also attacked Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena, and said, “It was very unfortunate that LG nominated a presiding officer for the mayoral election who created hurdles in smooth conduct of the poll.”

“They even tried to allow nominated members (aldermen) to vote against the constitution, for which the Supreme Court slammed them,” Bhardwaj further alleged.
“The court said that it was wrong. That’s why it would like to request that only the right person should be chosen to hold the mayoral election,” he said.

“The matter regarding standing committee members’ election is pending in the court. I have no idea about the party’s candidate for the mayor post, and a final decision on the same will be taken by the party’s high command,” he added.

Earlier in the year, Shelly Oberoi was elected mayor of Delhi in the fourth attempt after much wrangling between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party.
The last three attempts to elect the Mayor failed due to the political bickering between the Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party. They met for the first time on January 6, second on January 24 and last on February 6.The municipal elections in Delhi were held on December 4 and the results were announced on December 7. Aam Aadmi Party won 134 seats out of 250.

A petitioner Sharad Kapoor, who is associated with BJP, and who also contested the MCD councillor election went before the HC through a plea stating that the Mayor has betrayed the mandate of the Constitution.

He claimed that the Mayor betrayed as he allowed mobile phones and pens in the election proceedings of the 6 members of the standing committee despite the mobile phones and pens being explicitly barred in the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

The plea further stated that the Municipal Secretary has explicitly said that the elections can not be conducted as there are only 245 ballot papers, which are short as they required around 250 ballot papers. The Bench of Justice Purushainder Kumar Kaurav listed the matter for February 27, 2023.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called a meeting of its key office bearers on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the BJP headquarters, according to BJP sources.

The MCD election-winning party councillors have scheduled another meeting. In the civic body elections for the national capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party, ending its 15-year rule, by winning 134 of the 250 wards. Congress lost nine wards, and the BJP won 104, meaning that its support base in Delhi is continuing to dwindle.

Both the BJP and the AAP made loud claims about winning the election during the intense campaigning in MCD, but it all came down to December 7, when the results were made public.

On December 4, elections were held in 250 wards of the nation’s capital, with a turnout of about 50% and 1,349 candidates running for office. The low voter turnout, however, did not prove to be a pro-incumbency sign.

In the most recent polling, it was not predicted (in the exit polls) that Congress would be a significant challenger because it is primarily focused on the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) witnessed a historic win in the MCD polls, party chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and several party leaders gathered for a big show of strength.

After the party registered a win on 134 seats out of 250 in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, Kejriwal addressed the party candidates and the workers. He said, “I congratulate the people of Delhi for this win and thank them for bringing change. We have fulfilled the responsibilities that the people of Delhi gave us. I am indebted to you for believing in me and giving me love. We all have to work together. I appeal to all the candidates and parties that politics was only till today, we all have to work for the betterment of Delhi.”

He asked for PM Narendra Modi’s blessings after the win. He asserted, “I appeal to the Centre and ask for Prime Minister Modi’s blessings to make Delhi better. We have to end corruption, we have to clean Delhi… I am thankful to those who voted for us. For those who did not vote for us, we will get their concerns addressed first.”

BJP’s nearly 15-year dominance comes to an end. This is also Kejriwal’s party’s first victory, and at the sizable gathering, he highlighted the fact that it is the party’s fourth triumph in the city in over eight years. For the AAP, which has been working hard to increase its national presence, it is a significant boost. Earlier this year, it was successful in creating a government in Punjab.
Earlier in a tweet, Kejriwal wrote in Hindi. “Thanks to the people of Delhi for this grand victory and many congratulations to all. Now all of us together have to make Delhi clean and beautiful.”

Bobi, a transgender candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), made history on Wednesday by winning the Sultanpuri-A ward in the MCD elections.

Following the significant victory, Bobi declared her desire to work for local development. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who had contributed to her historic victory.

“I want to dedicate my victory to the people who worked so hard for me. I would like to thank everyone. Now I just have to work for development in my area,” said Bobi.

Bobi contested the MCD polls in 2017 but did not seek enough votes.

Earlier on October 12, 2022, Bobi had filed a nomination. Speaking to the media, Bobi said, “I am grateful to Arvind Kejriwal for making me a candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party. Till now I was engaged in social service work at my level; now, after winning, I will work as a representative of my community.”
“I have been engaged in social service work since the time of Anna’s movement. So far, I have gotten 150 girls married, especially since I help all the disabled and helpless people who come. My aim is to win the election so that I can serve such people,” she had added.

She also aspires to help the people of the transgender community. She added, “I will also raise issues related to transgender people and help them. Most of the poor people live in my area, I will work for them. Today people are in favor of the Aam Aadmi Party, in Delhi BJP has given nothing except three garbage mountains in 15 years.”

When questioned about whether being transgender caused her any difficulties during the election campaign, Bobi responded, “There was no trouble in the campaign for me, people support us.”

With its victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls on Wednesday, the Aam Aadmi Party overthrew the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 15-year reign of the city’s civic body.

Celebrations got underway at the Aam Aadmi Party office in the national capital well before the final results were announced because trends suggested that the party was likely to unseat the BJP in the MCD.

In front of the office, party members gathered and cheered, danced, and sang phrases honouring party leader Arvind Kejriwal.

In a closely contested contest, the BJP initially held the lead in the early trends for almost one and a half hours. However, the trends started to change as the AAP took the lead and kept it until the final results were announced.

After registering a win in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ends the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 15-year reign.

Meanwhile, after gaining the majority Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia slammed BJP on Wednesday and said, “BJP didn’t work.”

“We thank the people of the city for trusting us with MCD. The people of the national capital have helped defeat the most corrupt and most negative party of the world for a glorious win to Arvind Kejriwal,” Sisodia said.

Taking to Twitter Sisodia tweeted, “For us, it’s not just a huge win, it’s a huge responsibility too.”

While addressing a gathering AAP’s Gopal Rai said, “The BJP used to say that our party is here to just cut votes and we only here to defeat Congress. Multiple raids were carried out, targeting us. When we used to raise civic issues, they used to allege scams. They even targeted Manish Sisodia. The people of the city have now spoken.”

It was the neck-and-neck contest between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Paty (AAP), AAP gained a majority in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections on Wednesday.

The Aam Aadmi Paty (AAP) leads in 134 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 103 seats, Congress in 10 seats, and Others in 3 seats

After winning in the MCD elections Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday thanked the people of Delhi and said, “Thanks to the people of Delhi for this grand victory and many congratulations to all. Now all of us together have to make Delhi clean and beautiful.”

The counting of the votes started from 8 am onwards for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi election.

Delhi State Election Commission has geared up for the counting of votes for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election on Wednesday.

Earlier on 4 December, the MCD elections were held in the national capital where 50 percent voter turnout and a total of 1,349 candidates were in the fray for 250 wards.

However, in the MCD elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP will rule the municipal corporation of the national capital for the first time.

BJP lawmaker Manoj Tiwari, claimed on Sunday that 450 voters in the Subash Mohalla ward of the nation’s capital had their names removed from the voter list because they support the BJP. He then demanded that the elections in the ward be cancelled and held again.

He was speaking to reporters at the Subhash Mohalla ward’s Yamuna Vihar polling booth. The BJP MP went on to claim that the Delhi government is involved in a massive conspiracy.

“In the Subash Mohalla ward, the names of 450 voters have been deleted from the voters’ list because they support the BJP.” “This is a big conspiracy by the Delhi government. I will complain about this and appeal for the cancellation of these polls and re-election,” said Tiwari.

Anil Chaudhary, the president of the Delhi Congress, previously asserted that when he went to the voting booth to cast his ballot in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, he discovered that his name was missing from the voters’ list.

According to Chaudhary, his name is neither on the voter list nor the list of people who were erased.

“My name is neither on the voter list nor in the deleted list. My wife has voted. Officials are checking it,” said the Delhi Congress president who arrived at a polling booth in Dallupura to cast his vote.

This is the first civic election after the fresh delimitation exercise. There were 272 wards in Delhi and three corporations- NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC) in Delhi from 2012-2022 that later reunified into an MCD that had formally come into existence on May 22.

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the plea to postpone the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls, which are set to take place on December 4.

The plea has become infructuous, according to a bench of justices led by Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S. Oka, who highlighted that the election is in three days. The Delhi High Court’s decision on November 9 to not postpone the December 4 municipal elections for Delhi (MCD) has been contested in the petition.

Concerning the delineation of the constituency for the civic elections, the National Youth Party filed the complaint.

Notably, as campaigning for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections is scheduled to end today, party leaders will make one last ditch effort.

Several Union ministers and state chief ministers, including national president JP Nadda, participated in a significant number of roadshows to campaign for the BJP.

JP Nadda, national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), showed optimism and claimed that people are willing to vote for the BJP because they are tired of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) efforts.

He also criticised the AAP for failing to clean the Yamuna despite the Center giving the Kejriwal administration thousands of crores.

In the MCD, the BJP has held the reins of power since 2007.

Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Admi Party (AAP), will conduct a roadshow in Patparganj on Friday.

In an effort to boost its chances in the MCD elections, the Congress has pledged in its election platform to remove Delhi’s three landfills in 18 months, install RO water purification systems for drinking water, and pay any unpaid house taxes.

With the slogan “Delhi will be Sheila ji’s Delhi,” Congress mentions two programmes named for the former chief minister Sheila Dixit: the Sheila Dixit Gharelu Majdoor Kalyan Yojana, which provides financial aid for domestic workers, and the Sheila Dixit Swasthya Sahayatha Yojana, which offers medicines at a reduced price. Assistance for domestic employees includes financial aid in the event of accidents as well as admission for their children to MCD schools.

</excerpt>

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, urged voters on Wednesday to support the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming elections for the municipal corporation, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had done nothing to clean the Capital during its 15 years in the civic body.

The BJP, which has controlled the MCD for the past 15 years, is vying for a fourth consecutive term in the civic body, while the AAP, which has governed Delhi since 2015, is attempting to usurp the BJP’s authority over the corporation. On the evening of December 2, the campaigning for the elections will come to a conclusion.

Speaking during an election campaign in north Delhi’s Malka Ganj area, Kejriwal said his government could not clean the city because sanitation services do not come under the state.

“It pains my heart to see Delhi engulfed by garbage. Despite being the CM, I have no power to clean garbage because the MCD is under the BJP. Delhi residents gave us the responsibility of schools, hospitals, electricity, water. We fixed everything and provided free healthcare and electricity to everyone. The people gave the BJP one job — they had to look after the garbage — but even after 15 years, they could not clean Delhi,” the CM said.

Taking potshots at the BJP leadership for sending union ministers and chief ministers to canvass for the party for the polls, Kejriwal said, “The BJP has deployed seven chief ministers, one deputy chief minister and 17 union ministers to fight against one aam aadmi (common man) because the BJP has done nothing in 15 years.

“MCD employees will get paid on time, the garbage mountains will be removed, and RWAs will get the status of mini councillors and will get funds to empower them for self-governance,” he said.

“No power can stop AAP from winning the MCD elections, and the people of Delhi will vote for the party that wants to work, and not for the party that wants to stop all works,” Kejriwal said, alleging that the BJP stopped the files for mohalla clinics and CCTVs, and claiming that the lieutenant governor stopped the free yoga classes that the AAP government was running.

Reacting to Kejriwal’s promise of a mini councillor status to RWAs, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “They are trying to mislead the RWAs by promising mini councillor status. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had promised that liquor vends will be closed if mohalla sabhas don’t approve it. But what we see is just the opposite. Today, Kejriwal has to answer which mohalla sabha approved the excise policy.”

Kejriwal also stated that voting the AAP to the MCD will ensure that there is better synchronisation with the state government.

“The Delhi government is ours and the AAP is going to come to the MCD as well… Together, my MLAs and my councillors will do all your work, but if their councillor wins in your ward, he will make your life hell for five years. That’s why I warn you to not choose the councillor of another party by mistake,” he said.

Kejriwal said, “The central government refuses to pay Delhi its rightful share of funds. We practically get nothing from the Centre all year. Despite that, we did a lot of work… We built schools, mohalla clinics, hospitals, transformed the whole system… We did not cry for funds like them.”

Asaduddin Owaisi, a Lok Sabha MP, criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday ahead of the civic elections for the city on a number of issues, including healthcare, garbage management and water supply.

Among other things, Owaisi charged Kejriwal with being mute on the Bilkis Bano case and the Uniform Civil Code. When Bilkis Bano was sexually assaulted during the Gujarat riots in 2002, she was nine months pregnant, and the recent release of the defendants in the case had greatly angered the public.

“I think if there is a competition about who makes bigger false claims – (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi or Kejriwal – they are equals. It was this Delhi CM who made no attempts to stop riots (in the city in 2020). He just sat near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue to protest,” Owaisi claimed, stepping up the attack on Kejriwal. “He even talks about putting Lakshmi-Ganesh photos on notes. Now the younger brother is making an appeal to the elder brother, and the elder brother is happy that the younger one is following in his footsteps,” the Hyderabad MP further said, without naming Arvind Kejriwal and PM Modi.

Arvind Kejriwal had come under fire for his ‘request’ to the Prime Minister for putting the photos of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh on currency notes. “India is a country where all religions are respected. Even if a person is an agnostic, he too is respected.”

“When the stir at Shaheen Bagh (against Citizenship Amendment Act) was gaining wide attention, he made remarks such as – ‘I would have finished the protests in half hour if it was in my control’,” Owaisi said.

“When the first Covid wave was on, the Delhi Chief Minister was among those who blamed the Tablighi Jamaat for the surge in case. A special bulletin used to come highlighting the Jamaat cases separately,” the AIMIM chief said.

His remarks were made when he canvassed voters ahead of Sunday’s MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) elections.

The AAP wants to take over the MCD, which is now under the authority of the BJP. Vote tallying will take place on December 7.

Ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections next week, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday poked fun at his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) opponent and leader, Arvind Kejriwal, in Delhi.

Kejriwal “considers himself as the owner of Delhi,” the BJP leader said in a fresh dig. In his address at a public rally in the national capital, where he was present to support the BJP nominees in the MCD elections – Khattar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI: “Arvind Kejriwal considers himself as the owner of Delhi, unlike our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who thinks of himself as a servant of this nation.”

On Saturday, Khattar spoke at three rallies that were held back-to-back in the Delhi neighbourhoods of Krishna Nagar, Shahdara, and Rajendra Nagar.

The national capital’s civic elections are slated for December 4, and the results will be tallied on December 7. The AAP has 492 nominees, followed by 507 independents, who make up the biggest percentage of the overall nominations. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), 31 from the JD-U, 20 from AIMIM, and nine from the CPI have each fielded candidates in addition to the 423 candidates fielded by the BJP, which is now in charge of the civic body (M).

AAP was also criticised earlier on Saturday by Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who charged that the party’s leaders were involved in fraud and corruption.

All AAP ministers are not only involved in serious allegations of corruption but also jailed. This shows that his (AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s) politics is only about corruption, liquor, and scams,” Thakur said.

Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Sunday called out Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and said that Delhi will vote for the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in the upcoming MCD Polls in the national capital.

In the approaching elections for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in the nation’s capital, CM Dhami professed confidence in the BJP’s triumph and asserted that the party will garner a majority of votes since voters had witnessed the party’s and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s achievements.

“People have seen the work of Narendra Modi and the BJP. Delhi is also observing how the party which promised to uproot corruption has been establishing it. The videos of their ministers are out regularly,” CM Dhami said.

Dhami attacked the AAP by bringing up the most recent videos of its health minister Satyendar Jain, whose alleged CCTV footage from the Tihar jail appeared to show him receiving housekeeping services in his cell.

According to the sources, the purported video that surfaced on Sunday morning was dated September 13, 15, and 1. In it, men can be seen cleaning the jail cell’s floor and setting the minister’s bed. Jain was seen interacting with other people inside his prison cell in the images from September 12th.

On November 19, the first alleged visuals surfaced and showed Jain receiving a full-body massage. On November 23, a day after Jain’s attorney stated in the trial court that the minister had dropped 28 kgs of weight while in detention, the second alleged video surfaced. Jain was seen in the video eating a substantial and elaborate supper. Surprisingly, sources claimed that the minister had really put on 8 kg of weight.

Ajit Kumar, the jail superintendent who is currently on administrative leave, was seen speaking with the minister in the third alleged video that surfaced on November 26.

On Saturday, Shehzad Poonawalla, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) national spokesperson slammed AAP over the November 26 video and termed it as “AAP ka darbar of Bhrashtachar”.

Further, Dhami in his conversation mentioned the recently disclosed Rs. 1,300 crore scam in Delhi schools.

The Arvind Kejriwal administration’s “grave irregularities and corruption” in the building of 2,405 classrooms in 193 government schools in the nation’s capital were the subject of a “detailed investigation by a specialised agency,” according to the Delhi government’s Vigilance Directorate (DoV), which made the recommendation on Friday. Additionally, it suggested “fixing the responsibility of the concerned Education Department and PWD officials” who were allegedly complicit in the waste of nearly Rs 1,300 crore.

Dhami said, “People in Delhi are witnessing the disclosure of scams in the Education department and the Excise department, hence BJP will come to power in MCDs once again.”

In the lead-up to the December 4 municipal elections, the Aam Admi Party launched its campaign on Wednesday to hold 1000 corner meetings under the jansamwad campaign. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia led the campaign in nine municipal wards in the areas of Kalkaji, Sangam Vihar, and Tughlakabad where he urged the voters to vote for AAP councillors.

“AAP councilors will work for the public interest and focus on cleanliness and sanitation issues in the area whereas if a BJP councilor is elected then he will only focus on stopping the development works. Upon election, BJP councilors’ main agenda would be to only fight with Arvind Kejriwal,” Sisodia said.

Sisodia said that in the past 15 years BJP has converted Delhi into a dumpyard. “Cleanliness in Delhi was the core responsibility of MCD but they failed terribly in managing it. Instead, they gave the capital three mountains of garbage. Along with this corruption and extortion increased rampantly during their reign. The condition of MCD schools and hospitals deteriorated in the past 15 years. Due to this public is frustrated and is now questioning that if Arvind Kejriwal can make government schools and hospitals world-class in just 5 years, provide free electricity, and free pilgrimage to the elderly then why didn’t BJP do anything in the past 15 years in MCD? But the BJP does not have an answer to this. They are just abusing us,” the deputy CM added.

He urged people in Harkesh Nagar to visit and take one final selfie with the Okhla landfill site before the AAP takes control of the municipality and flattens the garbage mountain. The AAP has concentrated its campaign on the problems with landfills and sanitation. AAP has also unveiled 35 minivans that have landfill replicas and are being driven around the city.

Sisodia repeated the claim that the BJP-led MCD intends to build 16 more landfills throughout the capital, a claim that has been refuted by both the BJP and the MCD.

“In 2017, BJP said that it will finish all the mountains of garbage from the capital. These mountains of garbage are actually the towers of failure of the BJP in MCD,” Sisodia said.

On Wednesday, 60 Jamsamvads were organised by AAP’s Star campaigners to engage with Delhi residents, including Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai, MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj, Durgesh Pathak, and Mahabal Mishra. Before the election scheduled for December 4, 2022, AAP leaders and activists will conduct Padyatras, Jansabhas, and door-to-door campaigning in various booths.

It is clear, according to Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor, after what Manish Sisodia said today that the Kejriwal administration did not offer any support to MCDs with a political slant during the previous eight years.

Basically, Sisodia is threatening Delhi residents, warning them that if they do not put AAP councillors in power, even the new MCD won’t receive the required backing, causing more misery for the populace.

With the slogan “Sarkar Kejriwal Ki, Parsad Kejriwal Ka,” Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal began the party’s first phase of campaigning on Sunday for the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.

The first round of the party’s campaign will begin on November 17 and last through November 22. On November 23, the second phase will start.

Kejriwal asked people to vote for AAP in order to win 230 out of the total 250 wards while addressing the public on an open platform in Karol Bagh.

Kejriwal stated, “We have our own government in Delhi; out of 250 seats in the MCD, we need 230.”

The 250 wards in the MCD will vote on December 4, and the results will be tallied on December 7.

Mahabal Mishra, a former MP and Congress politician, joined AAP on Sunday in Kejriwal’s presence at a public gathering, dealing a blow to the Congress ahead of the MCD elections.

Mahabal Mishra, a former MP and Congress politician, joined AAP on Sunday in Kejriwal’s presence at a public gathering, dealing a blow to the Congress ahead of the MCD elections.

Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kejriwal said BJP is ruling the MCD for the past 15 years but has done nothing for this city. “Nothing good for the city was done by the BJP in last 15 years. Whereas in just seven years AAP government in Delhi improved the quality of schools and hospitals, provided free electricity and water, free bus rides for women and also installed CCTV cameras all across the national capital,” Kejriwal said.

Claiming that the sanitation services are very poor in Delhi, Kejriwal said that BJP is responsible for garbage and poor sanitation as it controls the civic body. It is BJP’s responsibility to clean garbage in Delhi, he said.

Claiming that the sanitation services are very poor in Delhi, Kejriwal said that BJP is responsible for garbage and poor sanitation as it controls the civic body. It is BJP’s responsibility to clean garbage in Delhi, he said.

“People ask me why the garbage has not been cleaned. I tell them sanitation management is not currently with the AAP government. Only AAP can clean the garbage. We love Delhi we will make Delhi clean,” Kejriwal said, urging people to give AAP the opportunity to fix the menace.

AAP has made sanitation one of its primary goals and has regularly criticised the BJP for how poorly it has handled the rubbish problem.

AAP on Friday flagged off “garbage campaign” vans as part of its MCD campaign to draw attention to the BJP’s “waste mismanagement.”

AAP Minister Gopal Rai said the campaign’s goal is to educate Delhi people about the three rubbish “mountains” in the Capital as he unveiled the vans from the party’s headquarters.

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was also present along with Kejriwal at the public meeting. “Time has come to clean the garbage,” Sisodia said.

The public meeting was a two-way dialogue in which the Delhi CM presented the party’s agenda while also listening to the attendees, shaking their hands, and addressing their concerns.

Karol Bagh has a sizable population of traders. Kejriwal while addressing the traders’ issues said the BJP has troubled the traders a lot. “Your brother (Kejriwal) is coming to power in MCD as well, we will solve the problems of the traders as well. Tell everyone in your area to not vote for the BJP,” Kejriwal said.

Prior to the city’s municipal elections, illegal posters, banners, and hoarding started appearing all over the Capital. According to an official report, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) started removing these items on Saturday.

An official stated that they have removed more than 70,000 posters defacing public properties.

The election body said on Friday that the MCD elections will take place on December 4 and that the results would be tallied on December 7. The model code of conduct for the elections has been implemented, according to state election commissioner Vijay Dev, and candidate nominations will begin on Monday (November 7).

The Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007, makes it illegal to deface public property by posting signs in undesignated locations, yet violations continue to be common even outside of election season.

With prospective candidates and ticket seekers from across political parties deploying illegal posters, banners and hoardings in an effort to increase their visibility in their respective wards, the MCD on Saturday said it has constituted 24 enforcement teams — two teams covering each of the 12 administrative zones under the civic body — which have been mandated to clear public places of all political posters, banners and hoardings.

On the first day of its drive, the MCD said in an official report that it had removed 70,741 such items — 51,167 illegal posters, 9,233 publicity boards, 6,183 hoardings and 4,158 banners.

The Central zone in East Delhi had the most defacements (13,385), followed by the Civil Lines zone (12,257), the West zone (10,365), and the Shahadra South zone (8,805).

An MCD official said provisions of the defacement Act can be used against violators, but the sheer scale of offences makes it impractical to go after individual defaulters, and pressure from all political parties makes it difficult to act against them. “Normally, we just remove these defacements. In case of private properties, a 72-hour notice is provided to take down the banners/hoardings,” the official said.

After members of the saffron camp arrived at the Ghazipur landfill site, the largest garbage dump in the national capital, to demonstrate against the Arvind Kejriwal-led administration ahead of the upcoming civic body elections, the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party got into a dispute.

According to news agency ANI, workers from both parties had a faceoff and they raised slogans against each other in Ghazipur. The BJP workers were protesting against the Delhi government when the AAP workers reached the site and raised slogans against the BJP. Police personnel were present at the spot.

In a video posted by ANI, BJP workers can be seen shouting anti-Delhi government slogans and holding signs that read “have shame Kejriwal” as local police attempt to appease the demonstrators. Workers from the AAP, who were also on the scene, screamed anti-BJP chants.

As he arrived to the Ghazipur landfill, Kejriwal criticised the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which is governed by the BJP, for failing to handle the rubbish during the previous 15 years.

“The BJP sitting in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for the last 15, has spread garbage everywhere in Delhi, today I have come to see their Ghazipur garbage mountain,” he tweeted.

He also challenged the “top leaders” of the BJP to show one development work by them. “Why are you so ashamed to show your mountains of garbage? Delhi government is not ashamed to show its schools and hospitals,” Kejriwal said at the Ghazipur site.

At the end of 2022 or early in 2023, the MCD elections are anticipated to take place. There hasn’t, however, been a formal announcement of the dates.

The BJP won 181 wards of the former south, north, and east Delhi municipal corporations in 2017’s local body elections, sweeping the opposition. This year, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was formed by the Centre following the unification of the three municipal corporations.
