</excerpt>

Delhi Police has announced strict prohibitory measures under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) from September 30 to October 5, 2024, in response to intelligence reports signaling potential unrest. The decision comes as the national capital faces a tense law-and-order situation due to several volatile issues. Among these are the contentious Waqf Amendment Bill, rising communal tensions surrounding the Shahi Idgah in Sadar Bazaar, ongoing political clashes around the MCD Standing Committee elections, and the pending results of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections.

With legislative elections underway in Jammu, Kashmir, and Haryana, the authorities are also tightening border security around Delhi to monitor movements and prevent any infiltration attempts by anti-social elements. Additionally, the influx of VVIPs in New Delhi for Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on October 2 has necessitated heightened security.

The imposed restrictions include a ban on gatherings of five or more people, carrying weapons, and holding unauthorized protests or sit-ins. Violations will be punishable under Section 223 of the BNSS, a provision meant to safeguard public order.

These measures are seen as crucial to maintaining peace amid political and communal tensions, especially given the upcoming elections and the potential for demonstrations across the capital

Addressing a press conference Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday said, “Earlier, we saw ‘Chaara Ghotala’, now, there is a government, whose name is involved in not one but several corruptions. Arvind Kejriwal has presented a new model of corruption. Lalu Prasad Yadav’s ‘loot’ model is being followed by Kejriwal in Delhi.”

Firing a fresh salvo Union Minister said, if he brings all the documents of corruption then a truck would be needed.

“The AAP government is involved in liquor, education, and DTC bus scams. Now, they have even deprived laborers of their rights. If I have to bring all the documents of his corruption, I would need a truck I want to ask Arvind Kejriwal if he is even able to sleep properly at night,” Thakur said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Thakur said, in the name of laborers Delhi government has “misallocated” funds into “fake” accounts.

Union Minister Thakur further stated, “If we look at the documents, it is very clear that they have allocated fake jobs to fake people with fake mobile numbers, some of them being traced in even Haryana and Andhra Pradesh. So, the money that was to be given to the laborers, was given to Arvind Kejriwal and his ‘friends’. They have robbed the laborers of their rights.”

Ahead of MCD elections Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has exuded confidence that BJP will win the MCD elections.

“The corrupt Aam Adami party has many frauds, from the health minister who is in jail to the education minister trapped in liquor swindle; it is the party of liars,” Thakur said.

Moreover, Thakur further said, “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has only three main agendas and these are alcohol, corruption, and fraud.”

However, on 4 December the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be held to the 250-ward and counting will take place on 7 December.

Over the death of Aam Aadmi Party’s trade wing secretary, Sandeep Bhardwaj Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said it was wrong to allege the AAP leader took his life.

AAP leader Sandeep Bhardwaj’s body was found dead on Thursday at his Rajouri Garden residence on which Deputy CM Sisodia said Bhardwaj did not take his life but was murdered.

While connecting his death over the death Delhi Deputy CM Sisodia said, Sandeep Bhardwaj, himself denied a party ticket to contest the upcoming MCD polls.

Earlier on Friday, the Delhi deputy chief minister Sisodia addressed the press conference and said, “This is very sad. Sandeep Ji was close to me too. He used to play a very important role in the trade wing. You cannot connect the death with the ticket, it’s wrong.”

Meanwhile, Manoj Tiwari alleged that Bhardwaj did not die by suicide.

“I believe it is not suicide but murder. Sandeep Bhardwaj was assured ticket. Evidence doesn’t make it look like suicide. It’s also coming to the knowledge that a ticket for that seat was sold. Abetting suicide is also like murder. AAP chief and leadership have committed sin,” Tiwari said.

Moreover, one of Bhardwaj’s friends took him to the “Kukreja hospital”.

“A PCR call was received from Kukreja Hospital, Rajouri garden at 4.40 PM that one person Sandeep Bhardwaj s/ o Naresh Bhardwaj R/0 B 10/15, Rajouri garden Delhi Age 55 yrs has been brought dead due to hanging at residence. Crime’team has been called at the place,” police said.

Over Bhardwaj’s death, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed grief and offered condolences.

Taking to Twitter CM Kejriwal tweeted, “Extremely saddened by the sudden death of Aam Aadmi Party worker Sandeep Bhardwaj in Delhi. May God give his soul a place at his holy feet. My condolences to his family members in this hour of grief and the entire party stands with the family members of Sandeep Ji in this difficult time.”

Under section 174 Crpc inquest proceedings are being conducted as per law.

However, further investigation into the matter is underway.

A week ahead of the MCD elections the incident took place. The MCD elections will be held on 4 December and the counting of votes will take place on 7 December.

Furthermore, from both Bharatiya Janata Party BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) there are 250 valid candidates and Congress has 247 seats as three nominations of Congress were canceled in MCD elections.

Notably, currently, BJP holds the civic reins in the national capital and AAP is in the power. The contest is two-way between the BJP and AAP.

Taking cognizance of the petition of the Aam Aadmi Party, the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the State Election Commission to conduct the municipal elections in Delhi.

The apex court said, without the interference of the Central Government the election in the national capital should be conducted in a free, fair manner. The court has fixed August 26 for the next hearing of the case.

A bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar has sought a response from the State Election Commission and the central government on AAP’s plea.

Earlier in March, the plea was filed after the Delhi State Election Commission indefinitely deferred the MCD elections. The petition was filed by AAP and its leaders Ankush Narang and Manoj Kumar Tyagi.

“The brazen influence of the Government of India over the State Election Commission and its flagrant meddling with the conduct of municipal elections forms the subject matter of this writ petition,” the plea stated.

At the same time, in another case, the Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission and all the concerned state authorities of Maharashtra to ensure that the election process in respect of local bodies is started immediately and carried forward based on the order dated 4 May. The court has ordered the Maharashtra State Commission to issue a notification of the elections within two weeks.

However, the Supreme Court clearly said that we want elections to be held and that they should not be unnecessarily postponed indefinitely.
