Speaking at a press conference, she emphasized […]
</excerpt>

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday criticized the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for their stance on reservation policies, accusing them of colluding to oppose legislation that would provide quotas in promotions for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) during the Congress-led UPA government. Speaking at a press conference, she emphasized that these parties should refrain from discussing reservations given their past actions.

Mayawati expressed her support for the Central government’s bills on ‘one nation, one election,’ arguing that such measures would reduce expenses and ensure that public welfare initiatives continue without interruption. She called on other political parties to back this initiative.

BSP leader also demanded that reservations for SC, ST, and OBC

The BSP leader also demanded that reservations for SC, ST, and Other Backward Classes (OBC) be included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to protect them from judicial review. “During discussions in the Lok Sabha, both the ruling party and the opposition, particularly the Congress and SP, have made many baseless claims regarding the reservation issue, which are devoid of truth,” she stated.

Mayawati lamented that the Congress and SP had previously opposed the Constitutional Amendment Bill related to reservations in promotions for SC and ST, recalling that the bill was torn and discarded by SP members in Parliament. She criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its “anti-reservation mentality,” suggesting that this attitude has hindered the passage of important legislation.

Reflecting on the recent discussions in Parliament regarding the “glorious journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India,” Mayawati asserted that the Constitution’s effectiveness hinges on the ruling class’s ability to provide employment and justice to the citizens. She stated, “The Constitution has not failed; rather, the people and parties in power have failed it due to their narrow-mindedness and casteist politics.”

Mayawati further warned that any amendments to the Constitution aimed at benefiting a specific party or individual would face strong opposition from the BSP. She reiterated her party’s commitment to the poor and oppressed, welcoming the BJP government’s related bills on ‘one nation, one election.’

In conclusion, she urged all political parties to rise above partisan interests and work collaboratively for the benefit of the country and its citizens. The BSP has faced a steady decline in electoral support in recent years and currently holds only one Rajya Sabha seat in Parliament.

</excerpt>

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati on Wednesday sounded the poll bugle for Haryana by launching a fiery attack on both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over their stand on reservations and the welfare of backward and Dalit communities.
Addressing a massive rally in Uchana, Jind, marking the 111th birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister late Devi Lal, Mayawati made her intentions clear as she demanded a caste census and laid out the vision for an INLD-BSP government in Haryana, promising a Dalit deputy chief minister if the alliance comes to power.
She criticized both the Congress and the BJP for “betraying” the Dalit and backward communities, accusing them of failing to uphold the true spirit of reservation.
In her speech, Mayawati launched a blistering attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of double standards on the issue of reservation. She referred to his controversial statement made during his visit to the US, where he allegedly said that “reservation will end when India becomes a fair place”.
“Rahul Gandhi changes his colours like a chameleon. When abroad, he talks about ending reservation, but when elections come, he pretends to support it. The people of Haryana should not be fooled by his duplicity. We need to teach the Congress a lesson in this election,” she declared, accusing Gandhi of betraying the backward classes.
Mayawati urged the voters of Haryana, particularly those from the Dalit and backward communities, to reject both the BJP and Congress, arguing that they are complicit in undermining the reservation system. She claimed both parties have failed to act on the Supreme Court’s rulings on the categorization of the creamy layer and reservation limits, using the court’s decisions to further their own anti-reservation agendas.

Reiterating her demand for a caste census, Mayawati said, “The caste census is crucial for ensuring that every community receives its fair share in government programs and policies. The Congress government earlier and the current BJP government have both neglected this demand.” She highlighted how backward communities and Dalits continue to face discrimination even after more than 50 years of independence, blaming successive governments for failing to ensure true social justice.
Mayawati also slammed the BJP for not giving adequate representation to Dalit women in the recently passed Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it a “missed opportunity” to empower one of the most marginalized sections of society. “The BJP government only wants to give lip service to the cause of Dalits, but when it comes to taking real action, they always fall short,” she added.
In a significant political promise, Mayawati announced that if the INLD-BSP alliance comes to power in Haryana, the state will have a Dalit deputy chief minister. “Abhay Singh Chautala will be the chief minister, and we will have two deputy chief ministers—one from the Dalit community and another from either the backward classes or the upper caste,” she declared, offering a major draw for Dalit voters ahead of the October 5 elections.
Sharing the stage with Mayawati, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala unveiled a series of welfare promises aimed at improving the lives of the poor and marginalized in Haryana. Among his promises were free cooking gas cylinders, a cash dole of Rs 1,100 per household, free electricity, free healthcare for those seeking treatment outside the state, and free plots of 100 square yards for the poor. Chautala also committed to bringing back the Old Pension Scheme if the alliance forms the next government.
Haryana is set to go to the polls on October 5, and the results will be declared on October 8. With Mayawati’s strategic focus on caste issues and welfare promises, the BSP-INLD alliance hopes to make significant inroads in the state’s political landscape.
In his address INLD supremo OP Choutala said that the farmers of Haryana were not getting remunerative prices of their produce and they were being forced to sell their produce at the lower prices and they were not even able to recover the input cost. He promised to provide better prices to farmers if the INLD-BSP alliance is voted to power. The INLD-BSP have formed an alliance for Haryana assembly elections as the INLD was contesting on 53 seats and the BSP was contesting on remaining 37 seats.

The committee, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, proposed holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies.

Mayawati, in a statement on X, welcomed the Cabinet’s decision, noting that while the BSP supports the proposal, the objectives of implementing ‘One Nation One Election’ must prioritize national and public interests.

The comprehensive report, presented to President Droupadi Murmu, highlights the benefits of simultaneous elections, including reduced political uncertainty, enhanced policy stability, and economic advantages such as lower election-related costs. The report also outlines provisions for handling scenarios like a hung House or a no-confidence motion, specifying that any fresh elections would align with the unexpired term of the previous House.

The report, the result of 191 days of research and consultations, suggests synchronizing municipal and panchayat elections with national and state elections. However, this proposal requires ratification by at least half of the states.

The committee’s recommendations aim to improve voter confidence, streamline the electoral process, and strengthen India’s democratic framework.

</excerpt>

BSP supremo Mayawati criticised both the BJP and Congress over the caste census row in the ongoing parliament session on Wednesday, stating that both parties have been fiercely anti-OBC.

Taking to the social media platform X, she said, “Yesterday, the ongoing dispute between Congress and BJP, especially on caste and caste census, was a drama and an attempt to deceive the OBC community.”

She further remarked, “The history of both parties regarding their reservation has been fiercely anti-OBC, both openly and behind the scenes. It is not right to trust them.”

In a series of posts highlighting her government’s achievements, she said that the OBC reservation was implemented due to the efforts of the BSP. “The OBC reservation was implemented here due to the efforts of the BSP,” she noted.

Mayawati also supported the national caste census, calling it a special issue of public benefit. “National Caste Census is a special national issue of public interest, towards which the Centre needs to be serious. Crores of poor, backward, and Bahujans also have a right in the development of the country, in fulfilling which the caste census plays an important role,” she said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and BJP MP Anurag Thakur entered into a heated argument over the caste census. Anurag Thakur said that those whose caste is unknown are speaking on the issue of the caste census. “Those whose caste is not known, talk about the caste census. I want to remind the speaker that in this house itself, a former prime minister RG-1 (Rajiv Gandhi) had opposed reservation for OBCs,” the BJP MP said.

Reacting to this, the Congress leader remarked that whoever raises the issues of Adivasi, Dalit, and the backward gets abused. Rahul Gandhi replied, “Whoever raises the issues of Adivasi, Dalit, and the backward is abused. I will happily accept these abuses. Anurag Thakur has abused me and insulted me. But I do not want any apology from him.”

The caste census was one of the Congress party’s promises in the 2024 general elections. The Congress party has promised to pass a constitutional amendment to raise the Supreme Court-mandated 50 percent cap on reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), as per its poll manifesto. The party also promised to conduct a nationwide socio-economic and caste census to enumerate the castes and sub-castes and their socio-economic conditions.

Using social media platform X, Mayawati described President Murmu’s speech, which highlighted the Union government’s achievements over the past decade, as “hawa hawai” (hollow) and disconnected from the ground realities faced by the […]
</excerpt>

On Thursday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati voiced sharp criticism of President Droupadi Murmu’s address at the joint session of Parliament. Using social media platform X, Mayawati described President Murmu’s speech, which highlighted the Union government’s achievements over the past decade, as “hawa hawai” (hollow) and disconnected from the ground realities faced by the country.

Mayawati accused the Narendra Modi-led NDA government of neglecting pressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, inflation, and the struggles of weaker sections of society. She expressed disappointment in the government’s roadmap for the next five years, stating, “There is nothing particularly strong in their roadmap for the next five years either.”

The BSP chief suggested that MPs, during the motion of thanks on the President’s address, should focus on public interest issues instead of engaging in mere accusations and counter-accusations.

In her speech, President Murmu emphasized the government’s achievements in various sectors over the last ten years and reiterated its commitment to addressing recent paper leak incidents with thorough investigations and strict punishment for the guilty. She called for rising above party politics to implement concrete measures nationwide, advocating for transparency and integrity in competitive examinations and government recruitment processes.

President Murmu also hinted at significant economic and social decisions to be announced in the upcoming budget, promising an increase in the speed of reforms to meet public aspirations. “The budget will have major economic and social decisions and many historic steps will be taken,” she said, aiming to bolster the government’s reform agenda.

Mayawati’s critique reflects ongoing political tensions as the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha embarks on its legislative agenda. The contrasting perspectives highlight the challenges of addressing diverse societal concerns within India’s dynamic political landscape.

</excerpt>

A day after the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) failed to secure any seats in the Lok Sabha elections, Mayawati expressed disappointment that the Muslim community did not support her party, despite their significant representation on the candidate list. She stated that the community did not understand her party, and henceforth, she would only consider Muslim candidates “after a lot of thought.”

This is not the first time the BSP has failed to win any seats in the Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, the party also did not open its account, and in 2019, they secured 10 seats due to an alliance with the Samajwadi Party.

The BSP had fielded 35 Muslim candidates.

Mayawati’s former ally, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, managed to breach the BJP stronghold by securing 37 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. Their INDIA bloc ally, the Congress, won six seats, including Rae Bareli and Amethi.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which achieved landslide victories in the previous two general elections, won just 33 seats in Uttar Pradesh and only 240 seats nationally, falling 32 seats short of a simple majority. They had won 303 seats in 2019.

During the election campaign, the Samajwadi Party and the Congress had urged Mayawati to join the INDIA bloc, but she declined their invitations.

Mayawati announced that her party would conduct a thorough analysis to determine the reasons behind its poor performance in Uttar Pradesh.

Expressing her dissatisfaction with the lack of support from the Muslim community, who appeared to have voted for the INDIA bloc, she said the community did not understand her party.

“The Muslim community, which is an important part of the Bahujan Samaj Party, is not able to understand the BSP properly despite being given proper representation in the past elections and this time also in the Lok Sabha general elections. So, in such a situation, the party will give them a chance in the elections after a lot of thought so that the party does not suffer a huge loss in the future like this time,” Mayawati said, per PTI.

In an interview with ‘Historically Speaking’, senior journalist Pankaj Vohra gave an interesting viewpoint to Dr. Aishwarya Pandit Sharma about Mayawati and the Dalit movement and how the impact of the movement has gone down.

Vohra mentioned the perceived decline in political activity by Mayawati, possibly due to various factors. He suggested that Mayawati has been less visible in recent years, possibly in response to allegations of corruption and concerns about potential repercussions from the central government. This decreased participation in elections is seen as contributing to a decline in her political influence.

Vohra said, “I can’t identify the for real reason, but I can give you my opinion on it. It is because there is a growing perception that Mayawati, in the last few years has been doing politics. She’s been lying low. She, you know, there were allegations of corruption against her, and she was perhaps scared that the, dispensation at the centre would, crack down on her. So she lied low. She did not participate as, openly in elections as she would in. So, if you are not participating in elections in the manner in which you had earlier. So obviously, you know, there will be dilution of your equity.”

He also gave the reason about why the new Dalit leaders aren’t able to make any impact.

“They will, you know, eventually. But the thing is that she is losing and they are not being able to. Yeah. So, the Dalit vote is going somewhere. They will, you know, eventually. But the thing is that she is losing and they are not being able to. Yeah. So, the Dalit vote is going somewhere. So the guess is that it’s perhaps returning back to the Congress.”

Top BJP leaders have indicated in these remarks that the only parties in the opposition, in their eyes, are the Congress, the Samajwadi Party (SP), and its leaders—Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, in particular.

PM Modi, Shah, and Adityanath have been criticizing Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi, and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge in their rallies in Uttar Pradesh thus far. They have also been criticizing SP president Akhilesh Yadav for missing the Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya on January 22 and for not going to the Temple since. To date, though, none of them has criticized Mayawati in this way.

On the other hand, in their campaign in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls – when the SP and the BSP had forged a pre-poll alliance – the BJP’s star campaigners including PM Modi, Shah and Adityanath had coined phrases like “Bua-Babua” or “Bua-Bhatija” to go after the then allies Mayawati and Akhilesh.

The BJP camp then proceeded to level accusations of corruption against the past BSP government and “gundagardi” against the previous SP regimes.

The results of the polls showed that the BJP’s total dropped from 71 seats in 2014 to 62 seats (out of the state’s 80 seats). Ten seats went to the BSP and five to the SP. But shortly after the election, Mayawati severed ties with Akhilesh.

Although it was not as harsh as it was in 2019, the BJP leaders nonetheless criticized Mayawati throughout the campaign for the 2022 UP Assembly elections.

This time, Mayawati has been criticizing the BJP together with the Congress and the SP at her election rallies in Uttar Pradesh in support of the BSP candidates.

But during the early stages of his campaigning, Mayawati’s nephew Akash Anand, 28, seemed to have his sights set squarely on the BJP, criticizing the administration on issues like joblessness, inadequate education, and the use of bulldozers, among other things.

This happened shortly after Akash was charged under provisions of the IPC and the Representation of the People Act by the Sitapur police for allegedly inciting hatred and enmity, among other offenses. Akash is said to have referred to the BJP government as “gaddaron ki sarkar” (the government of traitors) during his speech at a Sitapur rally on April 28.

Mayawati then dismissed Akash as the national coordinator of the party and her political heir “until he attains maturity.” Barely six months had passed since she had appointed him her successor.

The BJP leaders remained silent about both Mayawati’s action against Akash and his comments.
Akhilesh responded to Mayawati’s action on X by writing, “The BSP’s recent efforts to implement significant organizational changes are their own.”

Additionally, the chief of the SP pleaded with BSP supporters not to “waste” their votes. In his quest for support for his party’s candidates, he has recently been appealing to the “Bahujan samaj” as well.

Mayawati has been accused by the INDIA camp of being the “BJP’s B-team” due to her “soft stance” towards the ruling party, particularly after she sacked Akash. However, BJP insiders contend that their top party leaders’ attempt to avoid criticising Mayawati is a part of their strategy to win over Dalit sub-castes like Chamaar (Jatavs in west UP), Dhobi, Paasi, Ahirwaar, Kureel, Dohre, Dom, Dusadh, Kharwar, and Mushar – who significantly contribute to over 40 constituencies in central and eastern UP.

Additionally, the chief of the SP pleaded with BSP supporters not to “waste” their votes. In his quest for support for his party’s candidates, he has recently been appealing to the “Bahujan samaj” as well.

Mayawati has fielded 20 Muslim candidates out of the 80 BSP candidates.

Chaudhary Basheer, the BSP’s candidate for Firozabad, has questioned her Muslim-Dalit formula, nevertheless. Basheer allegedly concedes defeat in a recent video that went viral following the third round of voting on May 7, claiming that the Muslim community supported the SP and not him.

The SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav’s son Akshay is the candidate in the Firozabad seat dominated by the Muslim and Yadav voters.

In seats where Muslim-Dalit or Muslim-OBC (particularly Yadav) votes predominate, Mayawati has nominated Muslim candidates.

Aonla, Pilibhit, Kannauj, Moradabad, Etah, Badaun, Aonla, Ambedkar Nagar, and Shravasti are among the seats having caste equations. Azamgarh, Maharajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Domariyaganj. In each of these seats, the SP has not fielded a Muslim candidate. But the BSP contenders running for these seats include, not engaged in a constant battle with the SP or the BJP.

As a result, observers claim that the BSP’s plan to get the upper hand through the Muslim-OBC or Muslim-Dalit equations did not seem to be successful.

Additionally, keeping Akash off the campaign trail has hurt the BSP because Mayawati might not be able to independently campaign for the party’s candidates in the 41 constituencies that will go to polls in the last three stages.

</excerpt>

Akash Anand is a young Supporter of Baba Saheb’s vision, the successor of BSP Leader Mayawati and son of MP Anand Kumar. He is the face of Bahujan Samaj Party.

The beginning of his political occurrence took place in 2017, at a rally in Saharanpur. He is prepared for 14 long years by his aunt Mayawati. Thus, in December 2023, Aakash was declared as the party’s apparent heir. Mr Aanand got married to Dr Pragya Siddharth, daughter of former BSP MP Ashok Siddharth. The man seems to bring spring into the party’s barren land with its new energy and youth involvement. His major manifestoes lie towards bringing Dalits justice and opportunity as the party stands for. He was given the responsibility to manage the social media account and the young successor is fulfilling promises.

He expanded his hand beyond Uttar Pradesh to MP, Chattisgarh, and Telangana. As Mayawati mentioned to lead with UP and Uttarakhand whereas Anand ji will lead with the rest of the states. His idea to drag his reach is different and grounded. He invested time with college students of Aligarh Muslim University and Delhi University to take hold of young supporters cost-effectively.

In an interview with Press Trust of India, he was found not guilty of the fact of calling out BJP and PM Modi as Dictator. Furthermore, if one analyses the tussle between BJP and BSP. Margins are corresponding in the ongoing election, as there is a noticeable shift in the strategies of SP and BSP, mirroring aspects of the BJP’s approach. Both parties have reduced the allocation of tickets to their traditional caste bases. For instance, the SP has allocated only five tickets to Yadav community members, while the BSP has also decreased the number of tickets given to Jatav candidates. Although the BSP allocated 30 per cent of its tickets to Muslim candidates in UP, the SP has deviated from its previous pattern, with Muslim candidates, the party’s second most important voting bloc, receiving only 7 per cent of the tickets. With the change in pattern, an elevation in winning seats can be registered. Hence, Aakash Anand’s occupancy can either seep high or dig deep.

</excerpt>

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati made a significant announcement on Tuesday, removing her nephew Akash Anand from his position as national coordinator and her political successor. This decision, she stated, was made in the “larger interest” of the party, citing the need for Anand to attain “full maturity” before holding such responsibilities.

Mayawati emphasized the BSP’s dual role as both a political party and a movement dedicated to the ideals of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and social change championed by Kanshi Ram. She underscored the importance of continuing this legacy and preparing a new generation to carry it forward.

While Anand’s father, Anand Kumar, will continue his duties within the party, Mayawati clarified that Anand’s removal from his position is a strategic move to ensure the party’s long-term goals are met. She expressed her commitment to promoting others within the party while acknowledging Anand’s contribution to the movement.

Mayawati reiterated the BSP’s readiness to make sacrifices for the party’s advancement and the broader Ambedkarite movement. Despite this decision, she affirmed her determination to propel the BSP forward under the principles of Baba Saheb Dr Ambedkar.

</excerpt>

Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the serious allegations surrounding Mukhtar Ansari’s death in prison. In a statement posted on X, she underscored, “The persistent apprehensions and serious allegations made by Mukhtar Ansari’s family regarding his death in jail require a high-level investigation so that the true facts of his death can be revealed. In such a situation, it is natural for his family to be sad. May nature give them the strength to bear this sorrow.”

Following gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s demise from cardiac arrest, his son Umar Ansari alleged foul play, stating that his father was poisoned and vowed legal action, expressing full confidence in the judiciary. Umar Ansari affirmed, “We have full faith in it,” highlighting their resolve to pursue justice despite facing obstacles from the administration. He disclosed, “Post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow, after that, they will give us the body. We will then follow with the further process (cremation)… My father had alleged that he was being given a slow poison… Around five doctors panel has been made (for carrying out the post-mortem).”

The body of Mukhtar Ansari has been sent for post-mortem at Banda Medical College Hospital, Banda.

Samajwadi Party leader Ameeque Jamei echoed the call for a comprehensive investigation into Ansari’s death, questioning the adequacy of medical attention provided to him. He remarked, “We stand with the family of Mukhtar Ansari… Recently he said that he can be murdered anytime… Why he was not given a proper medical facility…We will demand a thorough investigation of the incident…”

Congress leader Surendra Rajput also raised concerns regarding Ansari’s demise in custody, urging a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the events leading to his death. He stated, “Today Mukhtar Ansari’s death in the jail raises a big question BJP-led UP Government…This should be investigated thoroughly so that everyone gets to know what is going on…”

Mukhtar Ansari, a five-time MLA from the Mau assembly seat, had a significant political presence in Ghazipur. His criminal history included convictions for various crimes, including murder, with notable cases leading to imprisonment.

</excerpt>

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, on her 68th birthday, expressed gratitude for the invitation to the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya’s Ram temple scheduled for January 22. However, she clarified that a decision on her attendance is pending due to ongoing party commitments.

Mayawati, addressing a press conference, stated, “I have received the invitation for the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ (consecration ceremony) program to be held on January 22 in Ayodhya. I have not taken any decision yet on attending the program because right now I am very busy with my party’s programs.”

Asserting the BSP’s secular stance, Mayawati emphasized that her party has no objections to the Ayodhya Ram temple event and welcomes it. She added, “In the future, if any such program is held regarding Babri Masjid, our party will have no objection to that also.”

“Our party is a secular party and respects all religions equally. No matter what religion it is. Our party has not opposed anyone. The Bahujan Samaj Party is the only party in the country that is secular,” she affirmed.

Mayawati reassured that the decision on her attendance at the ceremony would be communicated to the media once finalized. The BSP leader’s remarks came amid preparations for the consecration ceremony, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to participate, along with thousands of attendees, including seers. The ceremony holds significance as it marks the formal consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, following the Supreme Court’s 2019 verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit.

In her series of tweets, she envisions a year of prosperity, peace, security, and success for all, emphasizing the importance of self-respect.

Mayawati’s tweets underscore a call for a government committed to ‘Guaranteed Employment’ and the genuine pursuit of patriotism and civic duty. She raises concerns about the prevalent political landscape, where, in her view, governmental assurances are often mired in the politics of narrow nationalism, resulting in a significant portion of the population experiencing poverty, backwardness, and deprivation.

Highlighting the economic aspect, Mayawati questions the feasibility of development when a significant number of individuals lack the financial means for day-to-day expenses. She draws attention to the challenges faced by the unemployed and questions the possibility of a ‘Developed India’ without addressing the issue of unemployment.

Furthermore, Mayawati critiques the prolonged impact of both Congress and BJP-led governments, describing them as divisive, arrogant, and exclusionary. </excerpt>

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati launched her party’s campaign for the Telangana assembly election on Wednesday, taking a dig at the previous Congress government. Mayawati asserted that the OBC community obtained reservations due to the efforts of the BSP, not the Congress party.

Addressing a public rally in Telangana’s Suryapet constituency, Mayawati reminded voters that reservations for the OBC community were granted under the central government led by former Prime Minister VP Singh, following the recommendations of the Mandal Commission. She emphasized that the Congress government did not implement these reservations; it was the result of the BSP’s struggles and hard work.

Mayawati criticized Congress for not honouring Baba Saheb Ambedkar with the Bharat Ratna, a recognition bestowed by the BSP. She highlighted that it was the BSP that played a role in Baba Saheb Ambedkar receiving the highest civilian award. Mayawati also pointed out the Congress’s lack of acknowledgement and mourning after the death of Kanshi Ram, who carried forward the legacy of Baba Saheb.

Mayawati lashed out at the Telangana government, expressing concern about the oppression of the state’s weaker sections of society. Telangana will go to the polls on November 30, with the results expected on December 3. In the previous 2018 Assembly election, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) won 88 of the 119 seats with a 47.4% vote share, while the Congress received only 19 votes.

</excerpt>

As the Women’s Reservation Bill is debated in the Lok Sabha, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) head Mayawati claimed in a media briefing on Wednesday that the Bill is a “allurement” to women in preparation for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

She also asserted that the bill is not designed to give women reservations. “According to this bill, the reservation will not be provided to women in the country in the coming 15-16 years. After the passing of this bill, it wouldn’t be implemented immediately. First, a census of the country would be conducted and after this delimitation of seats would be done,” Mayawati said during a press briefing.

She added, “A census takes a lot of time…After this, only this bill would be implemented…It is clear that this bill was not brought with the intention of giving reservations to women. </excerpt>

Mayawati, the chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party, stated on Sunday that her party was not opposed to implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which she believed would “lead to communal harmony,” but she chastised the Bharatiya Janata Party for “politicizing” the matter.

“Our party (BSP) is not against the implementation of UCC but we do not support the way BJP is trying to implement Uniform Civil Code in the country. It is not right to politicize this issue and forcefully implement UCC in the country,” Mayawati said at a press conference.

“The UCC will not weaken the country but strengthen the country and it will also lead to communal harmony….but people having faith on various religions live in the country. They have separate practices and customs and it should not be overlooked,” Mayawati added.

She emphasized that the UCC should not be imposed by force and that there should be broad agreement on the issue.

Mayawati further claimed that the BJP was dredging up the topic to shift public attention away from critical issues and troubles that they were facing. “There should be no politics surrounding the UCC….”Article 44 of the Constitution clearly states that the state shall endeavor to secure for the citizens of the country a Uniform Civil Code,” she added.

Mayawati’s statement came only days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned for the UCC during a speech in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The UCC is a proposal to create and enforce personal laws for citizens that will apply to all Indians regardless of caste, religion, or sexual orientation.

Ahead of Uttar Pradesh civic polls Bahujan Samaj Party chief and former CM Mayawati chaired a meeting on Saturday.

At the state office, the meeting was attended by divisional zonal in-charges, legislative assembly in-charge, and district presidents.

Meanwhile, in November and December, civic polls are scheduled of which Mayawati reviewed party preparations.

The meeting aimed to revive the party’s stronghold, which is under question since the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Moreover, the former CM has instructed senior party members to reach out to the masses to give a tough fight to Bhartiya Janata Party.

“Former MP Mayawati, chaired a state-level meeting with senior office bearers here today. Senior people were entrusted with new important responsibilities, in a view to emerge as a strong competitor against the Bhartiya Janta Party ahead of the local body elections,” a statement released by BSP said.

The statement further said, “Mayawati also addressed party members about the special membership drive of the party which has been going on since June 30 this year. The opposing parties are relentlessly active in weakening BSP by adopting tactics.”

Earlier in September the BSP chief slammed Samajwadi Party and said the party failed to provide tough competition to the BJP.

Taking to Twitter she lashed out at both BJP and SP, “The secular forces of Uttar Pradesh voted against the extreme casteist, communal and anti-public interest policies of the BJP and made the SP the main opposition party here, but SP is clearly failing to give a tough fight to the BJP. Why? “

On the death anniversary of her party’s founder Kanshiram, Mayawati issued a series of tweets encouraging her supporters and followers to seek power.

Bahujan Samaj has got tired of demanding its constitutional and legal rights in the 75 years after Independence. Now they will have to join the campaign to become ‘Hukmran Samaj’ with full force.

“Any next election in UP can be your test, in which success can prove to be a new ray of hope,” Mayawati said in a tweet in Hindi.

She went on to call “power” a “master key” which can open all doors of progress.

“That is why this campaign must continue at all costs. This is today’s message and this work has to be done with determination,” she said.

Mayawati paid tributes to Kanshiram for turning the Bahujan Samaj into a political power and the “ruling community” in Uttar Pradesh.

“I pay respect and homage to founder of BAMCEF, DS4, and Bahujan Samaj Party Manyavar Shri Kanshi Ram ji, on his death anniversary. Heartfelt thanks to all his followers who are paying respect to him,” she added.
