</excerpt>

TMC counters BJP’s Operation Sindoor narrative amid 2026 election tensions.

Kolkata: The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has launched a strategic campaign to counter the political advantage gained by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) through Operation Sindoor, a military strike conducted on May 7, 2025, targeting terror bases in Pakistan.

With the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections looming, the TMC is working to reclaim the narrative, accusing the BJP of politicising the operation for electoral gains while highlighting the Central Government’s security failures.

Operation Sindoor, the retaliatory strike following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, destroyed nine terrorist bases and eliminated more than 100 terrorists.

The BJP has leveraged the operation to fuel nationalistic fervour, organising Tiranga Yatras in Kolkata and other towns and cities in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have spearheaded the BJP’s campaign, with Shah accusing Banerjee of opposing the operation to “appease the Muslim vote bank” during a rally in Kolkata on June 1, 2025, while linking her to the recent Murshidabad riots.

The TMC’s counter-campaign focuses on three fronts.

First, the party has reaffirmed its support for national security, while carefully avoiding giving any credit to the BJP-led Central Government. TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee joined a multi-party delegation to brief nations like Indonesia on India’s anti-terror stance.

A five-member TMC team, including Derek O’Brien, also visited Srinagar and Poonch to support families affected by cross-border shelling.

Mamata has repeatedly stated her support for the armed forces, emphasising the TMC’s alignment with national interest.

Second, the TMC has accused the BJP of exploiting Operation Sindoor for votes.

On May 31, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh called the BJP’s strategy an “insult to Bengal,” while Mamata criticised Modi for trivialising the sacred symbol of sindoor.

On June 6, TMC MLA Narendranath Chakraborty stirred controversy by labelling the operation a “staged drama,” though he later claimed his remarks were misinterpreted.

In a video clip that went viral on social media on Friday, Chakraborty is seen telling an audience, “The way they (the Bharatiya Janata Party) have started this Sindoor Khela (game of vermilion), it seems that the entire episode is a staged drama. This warmongering by the BJP is nothing but a game. In Operation Sindoor, PM Modi has played with the emotions of patriotic people, including women.”

He alleged, “A group of miscreants came three days after all the protection was withdrawn in Pahalgam. They singled out and shot dead 27 people after asking them if they were Hindus, wore sindoor, and could recite Kalma. You are aware of this story.”

Chakraborty also claimed, “Now they have come out to play with sindoor, which runs in the blood of Bengalis. If they play with sindoor, they need to be taught a proper lesson. They have to be thrown into the dustbin for playing with the sindoor of mothers.”

He argued, “The perpetrators are yet to be found. The fact is they are never found because this is a game plan to play ‘Hindu, Hindu’ and polarise the Hindu vote bank. It is a script to spark a communal tussle between Hindus and Muslims to stay in power and continue to rule the country.”

Third, the TMC has highlighted the Central Government’s failures, with leaders like Chandrima Bhattacharya demanding Shah’s resignation for failing to prevent the Pahalgam attack.

However, the TMC’s campaign has faced challenges. The BJP has seized on controversial statements, with leaders like Suvendu Adhikari demanding NIA probes into the Trinamool Congress’s “anti-national” remarks.

Slamming Chakraborty, the BJP’s Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari pointed out on his X handle that Chakraborty “has prior knowledge or insights into such a heinous act; it is imperative that the NIA take him into custody for questioning to uncover the source and credibility of his information.”

He added, “I urge the NIA to act swiftly and summon Narendranath Chakraborty to ascertain the facts. The people of India have the right to know the truth behind his statements and whether they point to any larger network.”

Separately, a leader of the BJP’s minority cell filed an FIR against the Trinamool MLA.

In the FIR, the complainant called for action against Chakraborty, alleging he had made an “anti-national statement belittling the valour and sacrifice of armed forces and encouraging Pakistan-sponsored terrorists to destabilise India.”

Public sentiment, as reflected on social media platforms, remains divided, with some praising the TMC’s stance and others criticising it for undermining national security.

The AAP National Convenor also criticized Congress for its alliance and secretly partnership with BJP.

Kejriwal expressed his gratitude to both parties for their backing in the crucial upcoming polls.

In a post on social media platform X, former CM thanked West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Chairperson Mamata Banerjee for her party’s support. “TMC has announced support to AAP in Delhi elections. I am personally grateful to Mamata Didi. Thank you, Didi. You have always supported and blessed us in our good and bad times,” Kejriwal wrote.

TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien swiftly responded, reinforcing the support for AAP, saying, “We have your back @AamAadmiParty.”

Similarly, on Tuesday night, Kejriwal expressed his thanks to Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav. “Thank you very much Akhilesh ji. You always support and stand with us. I and the people of Delhi are grateful for this,” Kejriwal wrote in Hindi, sharing a report that confirmed SP’s backing for AAP in the elections.

Continued Support from TMC and SP After 2020 Delhi Elections

The TMC and SP had also supported AAP during the 2020 Delhi assembly elections, where AAP secured a resounding victory. Derek O’Brien had uploaded a video in 2020 endorsing not just Kejriwal but all AAP candidates. Akhilesh Yadav had also congratulated Kejriwal on his party’s success following the elections.

Kejriwal Criticizes Congress for Its Alleged Alliance with BJP

While AAP has garnered significant support from TMC and SP, Kejriwal took the opportunity to hit out at the Congress after Ashok Gehlot, Congress leader and Rajasthan Chief Minister, claimed that AAP leaders were delusional about their chances of victory. Gehlot argued that Congress was campaigning well and expected positive results in the upcoming Delhi elections.

In response, Kejriwal accused Congress of secretly aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “It’s clear that Congress sees AAP as its main opposition in Delhi, and BJP as its partner,” Kejriwal wrote on X. He further stated that this covert alliance between Congress and BJP had now been made public, thanking them on behalf of the people of Delhi for revealing their true stance.

Political Landscape in Delhi Ahead of 2025 Assembly Polls

As the Delhi assembly elections approach, the political environment remains heated. With strong support from TMC and SP and criticism aimed at Congress, AAP’s convenor continues to cement his position as the AAP’s candidate for Chief Minister.

</excerpt>

Five days after partially resuming their duties at Government-run hospitals in West Bengal, junior doctors today alleged non-cooperation from the Trinamool Congress Government. The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front has alleged that the State Government has revoked its permission for a convention scheduled on September 27, intended to discuss the future direction of their movement for justice for the RG Kar rape-murder victim. They also said that the Government was foisting police cases on those who supported their movement. Alleging that the State Government has withdrawn its permission for the convention at a State-run auditorium, the doctors, in a statement, alleged that the Government has put up roadblocks to booking other auditoriums.

“This will backfire as we will not stay away from the path of agitations for justice,” the statement said. “We will go ahead with our convention at SSKM auditorium on the scheduled date of September 27 at 4 pm to decide on the future roadmap,” it said.
The doctors alleged that senior Government functionaries have told them: “Why are you still continuing agitation when most of your demands have either been met or looked into?”
Calling it intimidation, they said, “Our apolitical movement for justice for our sister will not stop till we achieve our objectives.”

The junior doctors today reached out to Chief Secretary Manoj Pant through an email with a reminder of their unresolved issues from a meeting held on September 18. The doctors, represented by the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF), expressed their concerns in a detailed two-page email.

In their correspondence, the junior doctors pointed out that no significant actions or orders have been implemented regarding the key demands discussed during their earlier meeting with Pant and a special task force. They stressed the importance of addressing these issues promptly, emphasising that many of their proposals were verbally agreed upon but remain unaddressed.

One of the primary demands is the establishment of a central inquiry committee to investigate the alleged “threat culture” present in medical colleges across the state. The WBJDF is also advocating for the creation of ‘college-level inquiry committees’ within individual institutions, which should include both undergraduate students and resident doctors to probe those accused of perpetuating a hostile environment.

Additionally, the forum reminded Pant of their call for an inquiry committee to be set up against members of the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) and the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board (WBHRB). These members are accused of fostering a threat culture and being involved in health syndicates. The doctors have requested that this committee be formed within the next seven working days. Other demands highlighted in the letter include the establishment of a task force or monitoring committee in every medical college and hospital, along with a transparent transfer policy for all recruited medical personnel.
The junior doctors had initially resumed their duties on September 21 following a 42-day strike, which was sparked by the rape and murder of an on-duty female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The WBJDF’s renewed call for action underscores the urgency of their demands and the need for systemic change within the state’s healthcare system.

After an 11-day sit-in outside the State Health Department headquarters, the protesting doctors had partially resumed emergency and essential services at State-run hospitals following discussions with the Government.

Governor CV Ananda Bose of West Bengal has requested an explanation from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the state’s decision to seal the border with Jharkhand. According to sources from Raj Bhavan, the Governor invoked Article 167 of the Constitution, asking the Chief Minister to clarify whether the reports about the border closure are accurate and, if so, the reasons behind it.

Following a rise in water levels that affected National Highway 16 at Panshkura, Banerjee ordered the temporary sealing of vehicle movement between Bengal and Jharkhand for three days. The two states share borders in the districts of Paschim Medinipur, Purulia, and Paschim Bardhaman.

On Friday, long queues of cargo trucks were reported at the Jharkhand-West Bengal border, with vehicles carrying essential raw materials stuck due to the closure.

In light of the floods in Bengal, which Banerjee attributes to the release of 5 lakh cusecs of water from dams controlled by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), she has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister described the flooding as a “man-made disaster” that has severely impacted over 5 million residents. She warned that if the negligence continues, the state may sever ties with the DVC.

Banerjee expressed her concerns on social media, stating, “I wrote to PM Modi highlighting the devastation caused by the unprecedented release of water from DVC dams, which has led to the worst flooding in the Lower Damodar since 2009. Despite repeated warnings, the Centre has ignored the failures affecting the DVC.” In her letter, she emphasized that the unplanned release of such a large volume of water has caused widespread misery across South Bengal, affecting over 1,000 square kilometers and nearly 5 million people.

Nirmala Sitharaman

<excerpt>West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ignited a significant political controversy on Saturday by alleging that her microphone was muted during her speech at the NITI Aayog’s meeting. </excerpt>

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ignited a significant political controversy on Saturday by alleging that her microphone was muted during her speech at the NITI Aayog’s meeting. Banerjee claimed that chief ministers from BJP-ruled states were given more time to speak, while she was cut off after just five minutes. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman refuted these allegations, asserting that every chief minister was given equal time.

Mamata Banerjee’s Allegations

Mamata Banerjee accused the government of political bias, noting that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP ally Chandrababu Naidu was allowed to speak for 20 minutes. “I boycotted the meeting because I was cut off after just five minutes, while BJP allies were given much longer. This is unfair,” Banerjee stated. She emphasized the importance of cooperative federalism and criticized the government for discriminating against non-BJP states in the Union Budget. Banerjee found it insulting that her mic was allegedly muted.

Nirmala Sitharaman’s Response

Sitharaman countered Banerjee’s claims, stating that each chief minister had their allocated time displayed on a screen. “Mamata Banerjee’s claim that her mic was turned off is completely false. She did not request additional time as other CMs did,” Sitharaman explained. She suggested that Banerjee used the timing issue as an excuse to leave the meeting.

PIB Fact-Check and NITI Aayog CEO’s Statement

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) conducted a fact-check and debunked Banerjee’s allegations, clarifying that only the clock indicated her speaking time was over, and her mic was not muted. The PIB also noted that Banerjee was accommodated as the seventh speaker upon her official request, even though her turn would have been after lunch.

B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, corroborated this, stating that Banerjee’s points were heard respectfully. “Every chief minister is allotted seven minutes, and a timer is displayed. Banerjee chose not to speak beyond her allotted time,” Subrahmanyam said, adding that Banerjee’s Chief Secretary continued to attend the meeting after she left.

Reactions from BJP and Congress

The BJP alleged that Banerjee’s walkout was premeditated. BJP General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh and IT Department Head Amit Malviya accused her of using theatrics to gain media attention. “It is sad to see a Chief Minister reduce serious governance issues to theatrics,” Malviya said.

The Congress, however, deemed the treatment of Mamata Banerjee “unacceptable” and criticized the NITI Aayog’s functioning. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the government think-tank of being “blatantly partisan” and muzzling dissenting viewpoints.

</excerpt>

In a recent twist, a woman from Uttar Dinajpur district in West Bengal, who was seen in a viral video being beaten publicly along with a man, has claimed the footage was recorded without her permission.

The woman, now recovering in a government hospital, has lodged a complaint with the police. She is seeking action against those who filmed and shared the video. “I don’t know who made my video viral. I have submitted a written complaint at the police station against whoever made it viral. Someone made that video viral without my permission. I have appealed to the police to ensure punishment against those who did it. I have full faith in the police,” she stated.

The incident, which took place in the Chopra area, involved a man named Tajmul, also known as ‘JCB’, who is reportedly an aide of a local Trinamool Congress MLA. Tajmul, identified as the person beating the couple with a bamboo stick, was arrested on June 30 and is now in 5 days police custody.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress, accusing it of allowing “Taliban rule” in the state. BJP leaders have alleged that Tajmul has close ties to Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman, who, despite the party’s official condemnation, reportedly defended the attack. Union Minister and West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar accused the police of collaborating with the state government. He claimed the attack was ordered by MLA Hamidul Rahaman. “There is a Talibani rule in West Bengal. There is a rise in mob lynching incidents starting from Cooch Behar to Chopra. Such incidents will go on and happen in front of the police. People have lost trust in the police. We can’t even see the police even through a microscope. This has been done on MLA Hamidul Rahaman’s orders,” Majumdar stated.

Governor CV Ananda Bose has demanded a report from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the incident, describing it as “barbarous”. Governor Bose, currently in Delhi, plans to visit Chopra to meet the victims and will later report to the central government.

According to local sources, the public flogging was ordered by a kangaroo court due to allegations of an illicit relationship between the couple. Tajmul was allegedly notorious for holding such courts and extorting money. Hamidul Rahaman, the local MLA, justified the attack by accusing the couple of “polluting society” through their actions. “The couple was allegedly engaged in an illicit relationship, which is why they were beaten up. They were socially polluting society through their activities. The woman was at fault for getting involved in an illicit relationship despite having a son and husband. Is this not a crime? Is this not an immoral act?” Rahaman commented.

In response to the uproar, senior Trinamool Congress leader Shantanu Sen assured that the state government is addressing the issue. “We do not support such incidents. The victims have been provided with security. Anyone else involved will also not be spared,” he said.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah compared the brutal tyrant from auteur Satyajit Ray’s beloved film “Hirak Rajar Deshe” to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Speaking at a public gathering in the Hooghly district on Wednesday, ahead of the fifth phase of voting in Bengal on May 20, Shah stated that if the renowned director had been living today, he would have directed a follow-up to “Hiraj Rajar Deshe” called “Hirak Rani.”

Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bengal legislature and a prominent member of the BJP, has frequently referred to her as “Hirak Rani” and accused her of overseeing the embezzlement of central and public monies.

“Satyajit Ray was a worldwide acclaimed filmmaker and, as we all know, one of Bengal’s proud sons. His world-famous film “Hirak Rajar Deshe” is still warmly viewed and recalled today. Unfortunately, Ray wasn’t around when Mamata Banerjee took over in Bengal; had he known about her misrule, he would have written a sequel to “Hirak Rajar Desh,” called “Hirak Rani.”

Shah smirked as he declared, “Mamata Banerjee is the Hirak Rani,” during a campaign stop in the Hooghly district on Wednesday.

Released in 1969, the musical fantasy starred legendary actors Utpal Dutt as the despotic king “Hirak Raja” and Soumitra Chatterjee as the instructor “Udayan Pandit,” who challenged the monarch and inspired his subjects to rebel against his tyrannical

Hitting out at the TMC over the prevailing state of affairs in Bengal, the Union Home Minister said, “Violence, oppression and appeasement are rampant in the state.”

Shah noted, “It is sad how the Communists and the Trinamool Congress worked to finish off nationalism in Bengal, the state which gave us ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘Jana Gana Mana’, while also playing a prominent role in our struggle for independence.” He was highlighting the contribution of Bengal’s revolutionaries, many of whom are still unheralded to this day, to the freedom movement.

Expanding on the ‘oppression’ of people and the culture of political violence in the state, the Union Home Minister said, “They (TMC) took away the rights from poor, backward and Adivasis and gave them to infiltrators and their network of mafia and syndicates. As many as 53 of our supporters were killed in the last (2021) assembly elections in the state.”

Shah was campaigning for the BJP’s Hooghly candidate Locket Chatterjee, who is pitted against the TMC’s Rachana Banerjee, an actor and a popular show host, in her bid to secure a fresh term in the Lok Sabha.

Polling in Bengal is being conducted across all seven phases and the counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress of operating a rampant “scam industry,” lamenting the decline of Howrah from its erstwhile status as an industrial centre to a landscape of shuttered factories.

Addressing a public gathering in Howrah, PM Modi highlighted TMC’s purported specialization in corruption, contrasting it with other parties within the INDI Alliance who allegedly engage in clandestine malpractice. He criticized TMC for openly engaging in corrupt practices, branding it as anti-women and anti-SC/ST.

PM Modi emphasized TMC’s desperate measures to retain their vote bank, contrasting it with the BJP government’s commitment to the welfare of marginalized communities, particularly the SCs. He underscored the substantial increase in the budget allocation for SC welfare under the BJP-led central government compared to the previous Congress regime.

Highlighting a shift in political dynamics, PM Modi asserted his government’s proactive approach to reaching out to citizens, contrasting it with past regimes’ indifference. He accused both TMC and Left parties of contributing to Bengal’s decline, specifically referencing Howrah’s transformation from an industrial hub to a dormant zone under their rule.

PM Modi expressed concern over the struggling state of the readymade garment sector in Howrah, attributing its plight to the policies of successive governments, namely the Left and then the TMC.

</excerpt>

Home Minister Amit Shah, who spent the day in West Bengal on the campaign trail, is learnt to have asked for a “detailed report on the Sandeshkhali sting”. BJP sources said that the Union Home Minister held an organisation meeting late last night and asked the BJP State leadership to submit to him a detailed report on the Sandeshkhali “sting operation”.

After being on the backfoot for months since the women of Sandeshkhali rose in protest against the sexual exploitation and land-grabby Trinamool Congress leaders, the party struck back on Saturday, unveiling a 30-minute “sting” in which a local BJP leader is heard saying that senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had orchestrated the complaints of sexual crimes in Sandeshkhali.

Meanwhile, in twin rallies in Krishnanagar and Durgapur in support of party candidates, Amit Shah exhorted the people to “vote fearlessly”. and defy the “threats of the ruling Trinamool Congress”. He also asserted that he was confident that the BJP would win at least 30 seats in West Bengal.

After holding a one-km roadshow on Krishnanagar’s Sadar Hospital Road on a truck decked with multi-colour flowers in support of BJP candidate Rajmata Amrita Roy, Shah said the Election Commission has already assured the countrymen that elections would be free and fair and strict action would be taken against any intimidation. Shah started the procession around 12:30 p.m. from Beldanga More.

“Only the BJP can stop infiltration in Bengal and hence Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs people’s support for returning to the saddle for the third successive term in Parliament,” Shah asserted.

Shah spelt out a long list of corrupt activities in Bengal under the Mamata Banerjee Government like “cut money business, extortion, arrest of the ministers after being caught with crores of money, discovery of bomb-making factories and confiscation of arms and ammunition, torture of the sisters and women at Sandeshkhali by TMC goons.” Shah said the list was unending as the Mamata Banerjee Government had failed to deliver goods to the people.

“This TMC Government cannot stop all these irregularities and various scams unless the people root out the present Government to make way for the BJP to come to power by voting generously on the lotus symbol,” the Union Home Minister said.

Shah also thanked the people of Krishnanagar for joining his roadshow defying the heatwave and scorching sun and urged all to vote for Roy in large numbers on May 13, the fourth phase of polling.

“The BJP will end the menace of infiltration in the State. The TMC can never stop it. I would request all of you to ensure the victory of the BJP candidate from this seat. Seeing such a huge crowd and support of the people, I am confident of a victory in Krishnanagar,” Shah said at the conclusion of the roadshow.

Thousands of locals queued up on both sides of the road and watched the procession pass.

Earlier Rajmata Amrita Roy told the gathering: “Do not fear and cast your vote courageously as the TMC goons have been saying that if any Hindu voter found near the BJP booths will be dealt accordingly.”

BJP’s Amrita Roy, from the Krishnanagar royal family, is taking on the Trinamool Congress’s Mahua Moitra who won the seat in2019 and was expelled last year from the Lok Sabha in an alleged cash-for-query scam. The Trinamool Congress has re-nominated her from the seat.

In Durgapur, where Amit Shah campaigned for Dilip Ghosh, the Union Home Minister assured the people of Durgapur of reopening all closed factories in this industrial district.

He also assured the people that the Narendra Modi Government planned to pump in more funds for Durgapur Steel Plantand Urea factory here.

Addressing an election rally in favour of Durgapur-Bardhaman Lok Sabha candidate Dilip Ghosh, Shah accused the Mamata Banerjee-led State Government of letting her goons run a reign of terror across Bengal and said industries were closed down for alleged extortion.

He accused the Trinamool Congress Government of encouraging infiltrators from across the borders to increase Mamata Banerjee’s vote bank.

Shah said several unlawful elements, who were against the national interests, were also taking shelter in the border areas.

</excerpt>

Rancour and finger-pointing by leaders marred the 27th foundation day of the Trinamool Congress on the first day of the new year even as party supremo Mamata Banerjee and second-in-command Abhishek Banerjee met in the evening to paper over the cracks.

Leaders like party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh who are allied with Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and heir apparent Abhishek Banerjee took on the senior leaders of the party and criticised them for their errors.

“Why are the top four-five senior Ministers soft on the BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari even though he is attacking Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee in the foulest language?” questioned Kunal Ghosh.
Meanwhile, long-term Mamata associate and MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay stoked the fire by telling supporters that apart from Mamata Banerjee, there was no other credible leader in the party.

Another veteran leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, in a veiled vibe at Abhishek Banerjee’s supporters, said it was necessary for the newbies to know about the history and the sacrifices that the old guard of the party had made to bring it to power. He also admitted that “some leaders” had indulged in corruption but Mamata Banerjee was the “epitome of honesty”.

In retaliation, Kunal Ghosh questioned the inaction of the senior Ministers when the then Education Minister Partha Chattopadhyay was indulging in selling jobs for cash.
While Firhad Hakim told reporters that the Trinamool Congress was a united family under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and would continue its fight together, party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh took pains to point out that while the CM was its leader, its general was MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Ghosh told reporters: “This is something akin to Ramakrishna and Vivekananda. Ramakrishna had many illustrious and famous disciples, but people wanted to know Ramakrishna’s thoughts, beliefs, philosophy and wisdom, more from Vivekananda’s mouth.
And that is what Vivekananda did, spread his word in India and the world.”

“Taking the same example, Mamata Banerjee’s struggle, sacrifice, development, beliefs, and faith are Trinamool Congress’s strength.
And people want to know more from Abhishek Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee has many followers, some very illustrious, but it is Abhishek who the people want to hear it from,” he said.

Reacting to the developments in the Trinamool Congress, BJP’s senior leader Dilip Ghosh quipped: “When corruption was hidden, everything was hunky-dory. Now they are saying, it is bad. This is the beginning of the end of the Trinamool Congress.

The foundation day is also the day when the death-kneel of the party has been sounded.”
CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty said: “It is common knowledge that there is a massive fight going on within the Trinamool Congress over sharing of the loot from the many corruptions and the scams that they have done.”
“The Trinamool Congress is a circus party. In a circus, the people look at the antics of the jokers. All these people making these statements are nothing but that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee, in a statement on X, said: “I humbly honour and respect the dedication and self-sacrifices of each worker and supporter of our party. Today, the TMC family is blessed with the love and affection of all,”.
Banerjee pledged to persist in her fight for the country›s common people.

«It is on the strength of your unflinching support that we shall continue to fight for everyone in this great democratic country. No surrender to any evil force. In defiance of all terror, we will continue our lifelong struggles for the common people of our country,” she wrote in a post on X.

</excerpt>

West Bengal minister Bratya Basu courted controversy by likening Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with the state’s spiritual icon Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya.
His comments have drawn ridicule from the opposition parties.

Basu while speaking at a programme at Purbasthali in Purba Bardhaman district on Tuesday described the Trinamool Congress supremo as the “true inheritor” of the philosophy of Sri Chaitanya, a 15th century Hindu saint from the state who founded Gaudiya Vaishnavism.
“Mahaprabhu Sri Sri Chaitanya had dwelt on inclusive society without any differences. He spoke about giving equal dignity and respect to every human being and is not keeping anyone away. Our chief minister as the true inheritor of the philosophy of Sri Chaitanya, too believes in taking everyone along,” he said.

“Mamata Banerjee does not practice the politics of division, she never believes in keeping people away. She does not believe in casteist and communal agenda. She believes in the politics of humanity,” Basu added.

BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya jeering at the comment Wednesday said, “Another TMC leader had earlier likened Mamata Banerjee with Maa Sarada (wife and spiritual consort 19th century Hindu mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa). Now we are hearing a different thing from Bratya Basu. Which one is true? We are confused.” Basu’s comments are not sensible by any standard, he said.

CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty dubbed Basu’s comments as “Nothing but limitless sycophancy to placate his boss”.
Senior TMC MLA Nirmal Majhi had in the past called ‘Mamata didi’ (elder sister) a “reincarnation of Sarada Maa”, while another party legislator Biswajit Das had compared Banerjee to Sister Nivedita, an Irish teacher, author, social activist and disciple of Swami Vivekananda.

</excerpt>

Home Minister Amit Shah today addressed a meeting of BJP Bengal’s social media and IT karyakartas in the city and said that the party would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on its social media strength because the regional media does not carry the message of the BJP “fearing Didi”, alluding to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“If all of you social media warriors decide, you can have more reach than any channel or newspaper and no one can stop you from making Modi ji win. That is the reason you have the biggest responsibilities,” said Amit Shah at the meeting held at the heritage National Library on Tuesday, stating that the BJP would win more than 35 seats in West Bengal.

Shah also underlined the themes that the party’s social media team would focus on.
He assured that forming a BJP Government in West Bengal would mean the end of infiltration, cow smuggling and giving the citizenship rights to religiously persecuted people through CAA.
“Before 2015, Didi used to take the BJP lightly. The cut money collected from Bengal is used to buy palatial mansions in foreign countries but the same people roam around here with hawai chappal. People will no longer be hoodwinked by these optics. People will now ask for an account for everything,” he said.

Shah said, the karyakartas in Bengal have made the biggest sacrifices in history and have even attained martyrdom and the Karyakartas from Kashmir to Kanyakumari will stand by you. Look at the outcome we have achieved. We did not have a single MLA but today we have 77 of them in Bengal and 20 Lok Sabha members. If we can achieve 77 seats from zero, then we can form a Government with two-third majority also”.
He added that Bengal used to lead the nation in every aspect and the same Bengal “is today known for its cut money, syndicate, infiltration, dynasticism, corruption and bomb blasts”.

He exhorted the social media team to give 35 seats to Modi Ji “from the land of Syama Prasad Mookherjee, I guarantee that Modi Ji will make Sonar Bangla”.
Shah repeatedly brought up the deterioration of West Bengal under the Trinamool Congress. “When Didi ousted the communists in Bengal, people were happy and hoped that the condition of Bengal would be better. But what she gave instead was worse than that. Stacks of currency notes worth Rs.50 crore have been recovered from her Minister. But Didi calls him a Sipahi of the party”.

He said that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, “the entire nation is progressing fast but under Didi, the growth of West Bengal has stagnated. Because she is afraid that if the development schemes of Modi Ji are rolled out in West Bengal then the popularity of the BJP will increase”.
Shah said that Mamata Banerjee had put national security at stake for her vote bank politics by keeping the international borders open. “And the infiltrators vote for her,” he added.

Shah also brought up the Mahua Moitra issue, saying: “Didi’s MP shares her password with businessmen in exchange for gifts and now she is trying to safeguard that MP. How many questions were asked about the poor in Bengal? They will never do that because the poor cannot give them expensive gifts. Her other MP also mimics the Vice-President of India. Does it behove an MP?, he asked.

The Home Minister also said that the UPA Government gave Rs 2,09,000 crore to Bengal in 10 years while Modi ji gave Rs.7,17,000 crore in nine years. “Didi will have to account for every rupee,” he said.

</excerpt>

In a strategic move, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has appointed Mahua Moitra as District Chief in her Krishnanagar constituency. This decision is part of a broader initiative where the party has named new District Presidents across West Bengal and assigned some members to the post of State Secretary.

A press release from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) highlighted, “The AITC, under the guidance and inspiration of our Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. Mamata Banerjee is pleased to announce the list of new District Presidents across West Bengal.”

This development coincides with the Lok Sabha Ethics Panel recommending the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the lower House in connection with “cash for query” allegations. The TMC’s decision to appoint her as District Chief indicates the party’s continued support for Moitra.

The release further stated, “We are also pleased to announce the appointments of some members to the post of State Secretary.” Mridul Goswami, Shaoni Singha Roy, Kanai Chandra Mandal, and Soumen Mohapatra have been appointed as State Secretaries.

The leadership reshuffle comes amid increased scrutiny on TMC, with the recent arrest of Jyotipriya Mallick, a TMC Minister, by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with alleged corruption in the public distribution system. The TMC seems to be navigating these challenges by making strategic organizational changes across the state.

The West Bengal Chief Minister declared on social networking site X, formerly known as Twitter, “I am filled with pride and nostalgia as we commemorate #TMCPFoundationDay across Bengal! As a former student leader, I am aware of the influence that youth and students have on the direction of our country. Your dedication to our shared mission, Chhatra Parishad’s young and ardent brains, melts my heart.

The All India Trinamool Congress’ student wing, TMCP, was established on August 28, 1998. A few months later, on January 1, 1998, Mamata Banerjee founded Trinamool Congress as a result of her disagreement with the Congress. Banerjee split from the Congress with the intention of overthrowing the ruling Left Front party at the time.

At the end of this month, in Mumbai, the newly established INDIA alliance will hold its third meeting, and Mata Bannerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are anticipated to be there. In West Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats, the TMC won 22 of the seats in 2019.

</excerpt>

Barely hours after Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee extended a rider-laden olive branch to the Congress party, spelling out a one-on-one fight formula against the BJP for the parliamentary elections, the Bengal Congress leadership dismissed her proposal as “ridiculous and outrageous”.

Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said: “We have repeatedly said before that we are not going to become bedfellows with thieves. If the Congress has to progress in this state, it must do so by defeating Mamata. There are no two ways about that.”

On Monday, Mamata Banerjee said that the Trinamul Congress was ready to extend support to the Congress in the 2024 general elections in regions where the Congress is strong. But the Congress, too, should reciprocate the political gesture by not fighting the Trinamul on a daily basis in Bengal. She had clearly said that her unity formula entails the Trinamul fighting the 2024 Lok Sabha polls against the BJP by itself without the Left or Congress cutting into its vote share.

Calling the proposal “outrageous”, Chowdhury said, “What option did Didi have now but to say such things? Her national party status is gone, and she is now reduced to a regional party. She tried to decimate Congress whenever she found an opportunity. She started that process in Goa. She tried that in Meghalaya and came to a halt in Tripura. In Bengal, she is fast losing popularity because of people’s disillusionment with her party. She is now facing an existential crisis. The entire state is talking against her. That’s why she remembers Congress now. Why didn’t she remember the Congress before the Karnataka elections? Why did she not ask people before to vote for Congress?”

Chowdhury argued that Banerjee was attempting to ride past “her own crisis” by trying to piggyback on the Congress. “Even after winning elections, she never felt the need to work together with the Congress. Now, when there is a nation-wide positive response from people about the Congress, she feels the need to join the bandwagon and join hands with the Congress.

The three leaders met behind closed doors to plan their strategy for taking on the BJP in the elections of 2024. The chief minister Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav headed to the state secretariat “Nabanna” after arriving at the airport.

Given their prior affiliations with the Congress party, the de-facto leader of the JDU might find it challenging to persuade both leaders. While Sudip Bandyopadhyay, a senior TMC MP, indicated that the Trinamool Congress would go its own way and maintain distance from both the Congress and the BJP, Akhilesh Yadav stated that SP would maintain equal distance from both the Congress and the BJP.

Nitish Kumar to meet Mamata Banerjee

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar will meet with his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata today.The meeting follows his trip to the national capital to meet with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and former MP Rahul Gandhi. The conference was considered as a crucial step towards setting the framework for a large Opposition alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year. After the meeting, Rahul told reporters that it was a “historic step” towards Opposition unity and a “ideological fight.”Rahul, who uploaded a photo of himself with Kharge and leaders of the JDU and RJD, stated that they are “standing together, will fight together for India.”
“A historic step towards Opposition unity has been taken today in this ideological battle.” (We’re) standing together, fighting together – for India!” Rahul Gandhi stated in a tweet following his meeting with Nitish Kumar.The meeting was attended by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and Janata Dal-United president Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh.
CM Mamata Banerjee is also making no effort to close ranks with other parties ahead of the 2024 elections, having met with Samajwadi Party chairman Akhilesh Yadav at her residence in Kolkata last month.

The microblogging platform Twitter modified its blue tick verification procedure. Blue ticks were eliminated as a result of the structure change from numerous well-known accounts. The incident started a social media meme frenzy.
Only individual Twitter users who pay for Twitter Blue, which costs USD 8 per month via the web and USD 11 per month via in-app payment on iOS and Android, have verified blue checkmarks. Check out some of the funniest responses from online users.

https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Bluetick&src=typed_query&f=top

A number of B-town celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, as well as politicians Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, Mamta Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Pushkar Singh Dhami as well as cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have lost their verified blue ticks from their Twitter accounts as a result of the recent development. A Former US President Donald Trump, Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates and reality TV star Kim Kardashian were those who has also lost there badges.

According to a previous announcement, Twitter will no longer display the verified checkmark next to any accounts that were recognised as notable before Elon Musk acquired the company, unless those accounts have a Twitter Blue or Twitter Verified Organisations subscription, according to Variety.

The blue tick was initially used to safeguard famous people from imitation and combat misleading information.
Twitter announced in a post from their official account in March that they would start winding down their heritage verified programme and removing the checkmarks on 1 April. People can sign up for Twitter Blue to keep their blue checkmark on Twitter.
In order to make it easier for users to tell which accounts “of public interest” on Twitter are legitimate and which are fake or parody accounts, Twitter originally launched the blue tick mark system in 2009. Previously, the business didn’t charge for verification.
Within two weeks of the acquisition of the company last year, Musk introduced Twitter Blue, which included the check-mark emblem as one of the premium bonuses. Now twitter has announced for the blue tick there will be an paid subscription applied for all the celebrities.

This came into the light when American writer Stephen King revealed this on the microblogging platform when he wrote, “My Twitter account claims I’ve subscribed to Twitter Blue. I didn’t. According to my Twitter profile, I provided a phone number. I didn’t. Mr. Musk replied to the same with “You’re welcome namaste” and an emoji of a folding hand.

In a separate tweet, Mr Musk informed, “I’m paying for a few personally.” Later, he tweeted, “Just Shatner, LeBron and King,” referring to Star Trek star William Shatner, who had last month complained about being forced to pay to keep his blue checkmark.

Mamata Banerjee stated at a public meeting in Singur that the fund used for the initiative is not funded by the Centre, but by the state.
She went on to say that it was the fault of the state administration to support GST.
“They are taking all the money in the name of GST.” It was our responsibility to support the GST. “We thought it would be beneficial to us,” she explained.
</excerpt>

At a recent event, Trinamool Congress politician Akhil Giri made disparaging statements about President Droupadi Murmu, according to a complaint lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Locket Chatterjee at the North Avenue police station on Sunday.

Under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Act, Chatterjee has asked for prompt action and a FIR against Giri. She claimed that Mamata Banerjee ought to sack Giri and personally express her regret to President Murmu.

After filing FIR, Chattarjee said speaking to reports, “Mamata Banerjee should give a statement. Akhil Giri is a minister in her government, she should sack him immediately. She should come to Delhi and apologize. They may say a lot about the SC-ST community in public but this is the actual sentiment of their ministers.”

The objectionable remarks were allegedly made by Akhil Giri against the President of India on Friday while talking about West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari. This happened after an incident of unrest in the BJP leader’s Nandigram constituency over the martyr’s day event.

However, West Bengal Minister and TMC politician Akhil Giri on Saturday apologised for his statement against the President of India Droupadi Murmu after receiving harsh condemnation from both the opposition and his own party the day before.

“He (Suvendu Adhikari) says I am not good-looking. How beautiful you are! We don’t judge anyone by their appearance, we respect the office of the President of India. But how does our President look?” Giri had said while hitting out at Suvendu Adhikari.

Giri apologised on Saturday, saying he was sorry and regretted what he had said and that he still respected the Indian Constitution and the office of President.

“I said, President. Didn’t take anyone’s name. If the President of India feels insulted about it, then I am sorry and regret what I said,” the TMC leader said in a statement.
Giri said that he does not regret BJP’s reaction to his remarks.
“I don’t regret how BJP will react to this. I am not concerned about BJP. My reaction was for Suvendu Adhikari,” he claimed.

“I am also part of the Constitution. I have taken an oath and become a minister. He (Suvendu Adhikari) insulted me and said that I look like a crow. He called me a half-pant minister. This is also an insult to me. Calling me half-pant minister is insulting the whole minister panel,” he said.

A number of BJP and TMC officials attacked Akhil Giri for his statements. Leaders of the BJP’s West Bengal branch said that the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC administration was “anti-tribal.”

On Saturday, the tribal affairs minister for the BJP also denounced Giri’s comments and demanded that Mamata Banerjee fire the minister for disrespecting the Indian president.

“They (TMC) find it difficult to accept that an Indian tribal woman is now the country’s president. BJP condemns this vehemently. We’ll see to it that he’s caught (TMC leader Akhil Giri), “said the Union Minister.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered our party workers to keep a watch on puja pandals to ensure there is wrongdoing,” the I&B minister said at a press conference in Kolkata.

“Those who had tried to create problems during Durga Puja stand exposed. We have taken special measures to ensure no untoward incident takes place,” he said.

He said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies are supporting these fanatics groups, adding their main politics is anti-India and anti-Hindu. ‘Our government has taken tough action against the miscreants,” he added.

Mahmud stated that the Indo-Bangla relationship is not solely reliant on the two countries’ Teesta water-sharing agreement while he was in the city to launch the Bangladesh Film Festival.

More than the relationship between the two governments, he continued, it is the people-to-people ties between the two nations that have aided in bolstering the diplomatic ties.

Since Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, disagrees with certain of its provisions, the Teesta River water agreement has not yet been finalised.

Using a pandal in Kolkata with a corruption theme, the Bengal BJP has targeted the administration. The Durga Puja pandal prominently displays cut-outs and pictures of Partha Chatterjee and the Bengal education scam.

Sukanta Majumda, the leader of the BJP Bengal division, officially unveiled the Durga Puja celebrations at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, was invited to inaugurate the event. However, he was unable to attend because of prior obligations in Gujarat. The Gujarat Home Minister is there for the Navratri celebrations.

The BJP has developed a theme for this year that highlights alleged corrupt practises of Trinamool Congress politicians in Bengal. Partha Chatterjee, a former minister from Bengal who is suspected of corruption, and the Bengal education scam are depicted in cut-outs and other graphics as part of the BJP’s theme that directly criticises the ruling party for corruption.

“Puja is being done in a very traditional way. However, people who visit the pandals will get to see whatever is happening in the state,” actor Rudranil Ghosh, head of the BJP’s Sankritik Manch, told India Today.

Kailash Vijayvargiya and former BJP leader Mukul Roy are thought to have created the cultural organisation. According to sources, some officials disagreed with the notion of holding the puja under a party banner. Mukul Roy, Babul Supriyo, and Arjun Singh were just a few of the leaders who quit to join the TMC in 2021 after being photographed leading the puja. The party’s cultural brigade also included a number of actors and movie stars who later disbanded.

While leading the Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan in Kolkata, the BJP leaders were taken into custody in Hastings. Adhikari, Chatterjee, and BJP leader Rahul Sinha were escorted to the Lalbazar headquarters of the Kolkata Police.

Adhikari claimed that Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal , had lost the support of the people and had transformed West Bengal into North Korea.

“Chief Minister Mamata does not have the support of her people and so she is enforcing a dictatorship, similar to North Korea in Bengal. The police will have to pay for what they have been doing since Monday. BJP is coming,” Adhikari said.

The police stopped buses transporting BJP members in North 24 Parganas as they travelled to Kolkata to take part in the Nabanna Chalo march.

Before leaving for Kolkata to participate in Nabanna Abhiyan on Tuesday, BJP workers and police engaged in a physical altercation at the Raniganj train station earlier today.

As a preventative measure, the police detained numerous workers in Raniganj.

The BJP slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for abandoning the corrupt party leaders when she should have supported them.

Another shock for the Trinamool Congress came when eminent leader Anubrata Mondol was arrested in a cattle smuggling case by the CBI. He had omitted the summons for questioning over 10 times, after which he was sent to 10-day custody by the CBI.

Amit Malviya, BJP IT cell head, warned the other TMC leaders of Banerjee’s indifferent approach towards the party members and bureaucrats and claimed that Mamta Banerjee stopped responding to the calls of Mondol and Chatterjee after they were circled by the investigative agencies.

Mamata Banerjee stopped picking up Partha and Anubroto’s calls just when they needed her the most.

“She deserted them when it got inconvenient,” Malviya posted on Twitter. “Message to other ministers, TMC workers and bureaucrats, who have colluded with her to loot, murder and rape-you too will be abandoned.”

Trinamool immediately removed Partha as a minister, whereas extended support to Mondol, refusing any actions against him.

Senior leader and minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said, “The party doesn’t support any form of corruption or wrongdoing. We have zero tolerance for corruption. The party will take the appropriate decision (on Mondal) at the right time. An allegation against someone doesn’t prove him guilty.”

“We have serious doubts about the functioning of the central agencies. We have seen that they are silent when it comes to taking action against the BJP. There are leaders against whom there are allegations of corruption,” she added.

The TMC is expected to stage a protest against the misuse of central agencies.
