April 14, 2025, 5:29 pm

Fitness and Approval from BCCI’s Centre of Excellence

Top sources said the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru cleared Mayank, who played only four games last season despite being retained at Rs 11 crore. He is ready to play, but the LSG coaching team will make the final call and closely monitor his fitness.

Injury Setbacks and Delayed Return for Mayank Yadav

Mayank Yadav was present at the CoE because of a lumbar stress injury. He was projected to regain fitness by the second week of April, but that timeline was pushed ahead due to an injury to his toe. Langer had commented on Mayank’s injury right at the beginning of the season and reported that the pacer hurt his toe when he kicked his bed in error.

Boost for LSG as Mayank Yadav Returns

Mayank’s return to the side will be a huge boost to the team, which has performed admirably in spite of its comparative lack of resources. Right at the beginning of the season, LSG recruited Shardul Thakur as a cover player, who has performed decently till now. Shardul, however, joined as a replacement for left-arm bowler Mohsin Khan.

LSG are now at the 4th position in the league, with a win rate of 4 from their six games. LSG face Chennai Super Kings on Monday, April 12, at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.

The cameo-quickfire by Badoni (19-ball 30) and Miller (14-ball 27) made sure that the initial momentum was not wasted. With the ball, all Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan and Digvesh came back with a wicket to their name. While Digvesh winning the Player of the Match award for his frugal spell of 1 for 21 in four overs.

Digvesh Rathi Fined Again for Notebook Celebration Against MI

April 5, 2025, 11:58 am

Lucknow Super Giants’ spinner Digvesh Rathi landed himself in controversy for the second consecutive match with his “writing in my notebook” celebratory gesture when playing the match against the Mumbai Indians at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.

Repeat Offence Leads to Heavier Penalty

Only four days after he was fined 25 percent of his match fees for the provocative celebration,Digvesh Rathi’s fine was doubled to 50 percent for his animated gestures after dismissing MI’s Naman Dhir during LSG’s eventual 12-run win.

IPL Committee Statement Confirms Sanction on Digvesh Rathi

“Digvesh Rathi , Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday. This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025,” a statement from the IPL committee read.

Notebook Gesture First Surfaced Against PBKS

In LSG’s last match, Rathi unleashed the party after sending Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya back to the pavilion. The action occurred in the third over of the Punjab Kings chase.

The Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya attempted a pull shot against a short outside off delivery from Rathi but could only top edge it into the hands Shardul Thakur.

Digvesh Rathi, who has been playing along with Arya in the Delhi Premier League then proceeded to Arya and took his left hand like a page and acted as if writing down the dismissal.

Rathi’s drama got the on-field umpire warn the bowler too and the spinner would concede 30 runs in his four overs. After the match, BCCI penalized Rathi 25 percent of his match fee and gave one demerit point.

Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes On-Field Antics of Digvesh Rathi

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar slammed Rathi’s antics, stating: “I can understand the celebration if the wicket comes after the batsman hit a boundary or a six in the previous ball. As a bowler, you’ve got six deliveries. So if you got five dot balls and get a wicket of the sixth, then you do something like that, it’s not understandable.”

“But all these gestures mean that you don’t expect to get a wicket. And now that you’ve got a wicket, you’re trying to, you know, show off. We know what Kohli did after that. He hit him for a boundary after boundary after boundary…(laughs),” said Gavaskar while doing commentary.

Kavya Maran Went from Cheerful to “Why Did I Even Come?” in 16.1 Overs

March 28, 2025, 1:03 pm

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won a comprehensive five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2025 match on Thursday. LSG chased SRH’s score of 190/9 in 16.1 overs while playing at Hyderabad, gaining two valuable points in the competition.

SRH, whose explosive batting order includes Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan, could not make the best of their firepower. Shardul Thakur of LSG tore their batting order apart with a clinical show to limit SRH to 190/9 from 20 overs. Although 190 is a fighting score, it was below par, considering SRH’s typical batting excellence.

Pooran and Marsh Lead LSG’s Rampage

LSG’s pursuit was nothing less than a batting clinic. Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh spearheaded the effort, hitting merciless knocks of 70 (26 balls) and 52 (31 balls), respectively. Their relentless onslaught tore apart SRH’s bowling attack, making the run chase look easy.

Kavya Maran’s Viral Reaction

SRH owner Kavya Maran, who is no stranger to the passionate support of a crowd, was visibly upset when LSG batsmen shredded her side’s bowling attack. Her moments of frustration and dejection soon caught the internet’s eye, making her reactions go viral on social media.

Later in the game, SRH skipper Pat Cummins recognized LSG’s better play.

“It was a different wicket the other day, but we had to score quickly. They batted really well though. Still a very good wicket, that was the best wicket in the world, this was the second-best wicket. It gripped a little bit, but it was a nice wicket. Every time it’s a fresh game, they bowled really well, it was very well planned,” Cummins said.

He also stressed the need to learn from the defeat:

“It was a pretty good effort to get to 190. You always need one person to bat throughout the innings, like Ishan (Kishan) did the other day, but they bowled really well, never let us off the hook. We got 8 batters, it’s about going out there and making an impact. You see things you could have done better, that could have been the difference. It’s a long competition, we will get a chance pretty quickly, so we need to move on,” he added.

SRH started their IPL 2025 journey with a breathtaking 44-run win against the Rajasthan Royals, posting an enormous 286/6 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan was the top gun with a blazing 106* off 47, while Travis Head hammered 67 off 31.

In the future, SRH hopes to regain their form as they take on Delhi Capitals in their upcoming IPL 2025 game on Sunday in Visakhapatnam.

IPL 2024: Punjab Kings Prepare For a Vital Match Against LSG

March 30, 2024, 11:46 am

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has kicked off with the usual thrill and intensity, delivering the excitement and suspense that fans anticipate from one of cricket’s top tournaments. Punjab Kings (PBKS) got off to a strong start with a victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) but faced a tough setback against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Now, they are preparing for a vital match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as they aim to bounce back from their recent defeat.

The recent match between the ‘Punjab Shers’ and RCB showcased a blend of performances. It commenced well with captain Shikhar Dhawan showcasing his leadership with a commendable innings of 45 runs off 37 balls before departing. Sam Curran (23 runs in 17 balls, including three fours), Jitesh Sharma (27 runs in 20 balls, with one four and two sixes), and a fiery cameo from Shashank Singh (21* off eight balls, featuring four boundaries and two sixes) all contributed, allowing PBKS to post a competitive total of 176/6.

Despite a strong bowling effort, notably highlighted by Harpreet Brar’s exceptional performance, claiming two crucial wickets while conceding only 13 runs, Punjab’s efforts were not enough. This was primarily due to the impactful innings from Virat Kohli (77 runs off 59 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes) and Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten knock of 28 runs from just 10 balls, featuring three fours and two sixes. Ultimately, Punjab suffered a narrow defeat, falling short by four wickets with four balls remaining.

On the flip side, Lucknow Super Giants faced a setback in their inaugural match against the Rajasthan Royals. Their bowlers found it challenging to contain the opposition batsmen, allowing Sanju Samson (82 not out off 52 balls, comprising three fours and six sixes) and Riyan Parag (43 runs off 29 balls, including a four and three sixes) to dominate and set a formidable total of 193/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite commendable efforts from KL Rahul (58 runs off 44 balls, featuring four boundaries and two sixes) and Nicholas Pooran (64 not out off 41 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes) with the bat, Lucknow fell short in their pursuit.

Looking at their head-to-head encounters, LSG holds the advantage, having won two out of the three matches played in the IPL so far. In their last face-off with PBKS, Lucknow set a formidable total of 257 runs, securing a victory by a significant margin of 56 runs.

Mumbai Indians shaped my career, gave me direction, says Rohit Sharma

May 24, 2023, 8:06 pm

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday, ahead of a crucial match against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, stated that MI has shaped his career and made him more mature as a batter.

“I will forever be grateful to the Mumbai Indians franchise. MI shaped my career, gave me direction and made me a very mature cricketer, I was 23 when I came here back in 2011. You learn so many things at that age, discovering things about you as a cricketer.”

Prior to joining MI, the Indian captain was with Deccan Charges, where he served as vice-captain in 2009. Rohit made his IPL debut with the Deccan Chargers, where he scored 1,170 runs in 45 matches at an average of 30.79. For the Chargers, his best game was an unbeaten 76.

MI As he prepares to hit the first ball, the captain stated that he wishes to play aggressive cricket. He conveys the same message to his team.

He furthermore stated that “I just want to play that way. I have played it for a long time, but want to do things differently now. If I get out, It does not bother me. This is what I am going to do. I used to tell players in the dressing room that I would step out on the first ball itself and go for a hit. (On his aggressive game).

He continued “I do practice six hitting. I cannot match the power of Kieron Pollard, Cameron Green. They can smash 100 m sixes easily. So I just try hitting 65-80 m sixes instead. I just focus on timing the ball well. I would hit 100 m if I get eight runs for that. My strength is middling the ball with the bat.”

Amit Mishra surpasses Malinga to become third-highest wicket taker in IPL

May 2, 2023, 4:34 pm

Indian spin veteran Amit Mishra surpassed Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga to become the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday.
The 40-year-old achieved this record during his side, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG),’s IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Lucknow.

Amit took advantage of spin-friendly conditions to the fullest. He ended with figures of 2/21 in his four overs. He took the wickets of Suyash Prabhudessai and skipper Faf Du Plessis.
In 160 matches so far, he has taken 172 wickets at an average of 23.75 and an economy rate of 7.34. His best bowling figures are 5/17 in the IPL.

Amit has been performing well in IPL 2023. He has taken six wickets in six matches at an average of 18.16 and an economy rate of 7.26. His best bowling figures are 2/21.
The top-five wicket-takers in IPL history are: Dwayne Bravo (183 wickets), Yuzvendra Chahal (178 wickets), Mishra, Lasith Malinga (170 wickets), and Piyush Chawla (170 wickets).

Coming into the match, RCB were reduced to a modest 126/9 in their 20 overs. Besides skipper Faf Du Plessis (44 in 40 balls) and Virat Kohli (31 in 30 balls), RCB batters failed to fire. They struggled in spin-friendly conditions.

Naveen-ul-Haq was the pick of the bowlers for LSG, taking 3/30 in his four overs. Amit Mishra took 2/21 in his four overs, and Bishnoi got similar figures in three overs. Krishnappa Gowtham took a wicket as well.

‘No-brainer to bowl spin early’, KL Rahul after win against SRH

April 8, 2023, 4:25 pm

KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, stated on Friday that he has no reservations about using spinners early in the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Lucknow moved to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 standings with their second victory. Lucknow dominated SRH in every department, while Hyderabad simply did not compete. Rahul admitted to reading the pitch on the eve of the game.

As Jaydev Unadkat’s cutters gripped, the LSG captain stated that using spinners in power play was always in the cards. “We saw gripping in the first couple of overs when Jaydev bowled a few cutters. It was a no-brainer to start bowling and spinning early. I knew KP was more effective on the power play,” according to KL Rahul. Rahul also praised the batting unit for adapting well to the situation, claiming that the players had conversations to assist one another.

Coming to the match, Lucknow Super Giants, chasing a modest 122-run target, got off to a quick start with skipper KL Rahul and opener Kyle Mayers capitalising on every scoring opportunity that came their way. Afghan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi brought Sunrisers back in the game, dismissing Mayers for 13 from 14 balls as LSG lost their first wicket for 35. In the next over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Deepak Hooda caught and bowled for 7, as the hosts lost their second wicket for 45 runs in six overs.

With just eight needed to win Adil Rashid gave a back-to-back blow to hosts Lucknow, dismissing KL Rahul’s leg-before wicket for 35 and dismissing Romario Shepherd for a golden duck to leave them struggling at 114/5.

It turned out to be too little, too late for Sunrisers Hyderabad as Nicholas Pooran went on to hit the winning run as Lucknow Super Giants registered their second win in three matches, while Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their second consecutive match and are still searching for their first win this season.

LSG’s predicted playing XI for IPL 2023 match 3 against Delhi Capitals

April 1, 2023, 3:19 pm

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) appeared to be on track to finish in the top two of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), but all they got was an Eliminator appearance and a disappointing loss.

LSG will want to go a few steps further this time after an interesting IPL 2023 auction in which they made one massive purchase. KL Rahul and company have a decent squad to work with, though there are a few holes that can be exploited.

Who will play for the Super Giants in their first game of the season? Here is LSG’s predicted starting lineup for IPL 2023 Match 3 against DC.

LSG’s predicted starting lineup

Given the plethora of all-rounders available in the Indian contingent, LSG’s initial playing XI for the game is very likely to feature only three overseas players. However, because we don’t know the outcome of the coin toss, we chose the best overall combination in this article.

With Quinton on international duty, Kyle Mayers is expected to bat at the top of the order alongside captain KL Rahul. The duo will need to bat with purpose while also keeping in mind that LSG are unlikely to have much batting depth after No. 8.

Deepak Hooda had a strong IPL 2022 season and will want to build on that, while Ayush Badoni will try to turn his obvious promise into a tangible end product.

LSG’s season could hinge on Nicholas Pooran. The southpaw, who was signed for a whopping 16 crore, is one of the few players on the team who can take on both pace and spin. On Saturday, as a left-hander in the lineup, he will be tasked with opposing Axar Patel.

Marcus Stoinis was not at his best for Lucknow last year, and he will need to finish the innings without fail this time. With Krunal Pandya by his side, the Australian all-rounder has a lot on his plate.

The LSG bowling attack will be led by Avesh Khan, Mark Wood, and Ravi Bishnoi. Wood missed the entire IPL 2022 season and will be looking forward to his first full season in the league.

LSG’s predicted playing XI against DC: KL Rahul (c), Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Avesh Khan, Mark Wood, Ravi Bishnoi, Jaydev Unadkat.

IPL 2023: Lucknow Super Giants unveil their jersey

March 7, 2023, 3:42 pm

Lucknow Super Giants revealed their official jersey for the latest edition of the Indian Premier League on their social media handles on 7 March. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, LSG captain KL Rahul, owner Sanjeev Goenka, and team mentor Gautam Gambhir unveiled LSG’s new jersey together.

The predominant color of the jersey is dark blue, with stripes of red on each side. This jersey is a striking contrast to its predecessor. LSG will hope that this darker variation brings them the much-needed X factor this season. Before the LSG jersey became the centre of attraction, a fashion show was hosted just before the unveiling ceremony.

To top it off, some of the LSG players took part in that show, showcasing their sense of fashion and glamour. Ravi Bishnoi, Jaydev Undakat, Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan, and finally the LSG skipper KL Rahul walked on the ramp in colours that were similar to the jersey. After the unveiling ceremony, Gautam Gambhir, KL Rahul, and Sanjeev Goenka talked about what can be expected from LSG this season. Team mentor Gambhir emphasised the fact that consistency will be the key for LSG. The conditions will be different from last season. Thus, adaptability will play a key role in producing a result in their favour.

In order to achieve this, the LSG’s coaches and management team will play a key role. Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower will be the head coach of LSG for this season, and Andy Bichel will operate as the bowling coach. The other coaches include Vijay Dahiya as the assistant coach, Richard Halsall as the fielding coach, and finally Warren Andrews as the strength and conditioning coach.

The LSG squad for this season is: KL Rahul, Ayush Badoni, Karan Sharma, Manan Vohra, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Krishnappa Gowtham, Deepak Hooda, Kyle Mayers, Krunal Pandya, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, Mark Wood, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Nicholas Pooran, Jaydev Unadkat, Yash Thakur, Romario Shepherd, Daniel Sams, Amit Mishra, Prerak Mankad, Swapnil Singh, Naveen ul Haq.
