</excerpt>

During a heated parliamentary session on Thursday, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw responded to the opposition’s slogans of “Ashwini Vaishnaw hay hay” by asserting that they are not people who make reels but people who work hard. He pointed out that the average working and rest times of Loco pilots are governed by rules established in 2005, which were amended in 2016 to provide more facilities for Loco pilots.

Vaishnaw highlighted that all 558 running rooms were made air-conditioned and that more than 7,000 loco cabs were also air-conditioned to address issues of vibration and heat, contrasting it with the opposition’s time when none of these measures were in place.

Further speaking in Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw questioned why those who had been in power for 58 years had not managed to install Automatic Train Protection (ATP) even for one kilometer.

He pointed out that today, these same individuals dare to raise questions. Vaishnaw mentioned that when Mamata Banerjee was the railway minister and reported a decrease in accident numbers from 0.24 to 0.19, the House applauded. However, now that the accident rate has decreased further from 0.19 to 0.03, the same people are making accusations.

He questioned if the country would run in this manner. Vaishnaw also accused the Congress of spreading false information with the help of its social media troll army, suggesting they were trying to instill fear in the 2 crore people who travel by railways every day.

While speaking in Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the current ratio of non-AC (sleep and general coaches) to AC coaches is two-thirds to one-third, a composition that has always existed. </excerpt>

Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Misa Bharti, has emerged as the frontrunner in the Lok Sabha elections for Bihar’s Patliputra constituency, a significant turnaround considering her previous setbacks in the same race. Holding a lead with 330,985 votes, Bharti, daughter of former Bihar Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, is poised to secure the seat.

Her opponent, BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav, once a close associate of Lalu Prasad Yadav who switched allegiance to the saffron party prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, is trailing behind with a notable gap of 274,502 votes.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Bharti, who had faced defeat in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections by narrow margins. Despite her previous setbacks, Bharti’s electoral support has surged, as evident from her current vote count compared to her previous performances.

Patliputra, encompassing rural areas of Patna district, has historical significance as it was a seat once lost by Lalu Yadav himself in 2009.

The election for the Patliputra constituency took place on June 1, marking the culmination of the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Born in 1976, Misa Bharti is the eldest among her parents’ nine children. A qualified doctor, she is married to Shailesh Kumar, a computer engineer, with whom she reportedly shares three children.

Bharti entered the political arena in 2014 under the RJD banner, contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Patliputra, albeit unsuccessfully. Subsequently, in 2016, she secured a Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar without opposition. Despite her earlier defeats, Bharti persisted in her electoral pursuits, vying for the Patliputra seat again in 2019, only to face another loss to Ram Kripal Yadav.

While, former Karnataka CM Bommai has managed to secure 7,05,538 votes, this 2024 lok sabha results.

Overall, in Karnataka, BJP has won 15 seats out of 28, and is currently leading on 2 seats.

Meanwhile, BJP’s ally Janata Dal (Secular), has currently won two seats. The opposition party congress has so far won 7 seats and is leading on 2 seats.

However, unlike 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJP led NDA is heading towards majority with reduced strength. And opposition INDIA bloc has put up a strong performance.

As per latest trends, BJP seems to fall short on simple majority. Hence, it is far from fulfilling its ‘400 Paar’ target.

</excerpt>

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Result: Shashi Tharoor retains Thiruvananthapuramn for the fourth time defeating the Union Minister and BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 Result comes to a close, let’s look at the career of Shashi Tharoor in Indian politics.

Education

Tharoor’s educational achievements are noteworthy, with degrees from esteemed institutions like St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in the United States. He excelled academically, demonstrating a sharp intellect and a talent for languages, evident in his mastery of English and his ability to articulate complex ideas eloquently.

Tharoor’s career began in the 1980s when he joined the United Nations, serving in various roles over nearly three decades. He held significant positions in peacekeeping and humanitarian affairs, earning recognition for his efforts in conflict resolution and promoting sustainable development globally.

Tharoor’s Entry in Politics

In 2009, Tharoor entered Indian politics by winning a seat in the Lok Sabha, representing the Thiruvananthapuram constituency in Kerala. As a member of the Indian National Congress, he quickly became a charismatic and articulate leader, captivating audiences with his passionate speeches and thoughtful insights.

Tharoor’s prominence within the Congress party grew substantially after he exceeded expectations in the party’s presidential election in October, running against Mallikarjun Kharge, who had the support of the powerful All India Congress Committee (AICC) establishment.

In Kerala, Tharoor’s ambition to play a larger role in state politics is likely to alter the dynamics within the Congress’s state unit, particularly affecting the upper-caste Hindu Nair faction, currently led by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Opposition leader VD Satheesan, former Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, and former state party president K Muraleedharan.

Tharoor’s increasing influence is expected to create divisions within the Nair camp. Despite his defeat in the presidential elections, Congress MP from Kozhikode MK Raghavan and Youth Congress vice-president KS Sabarinadhan have expressed support for Tharoor. The backing of K Muraleedharan is also likely to bolster Tharoor’s activities and strengthen the party.

Tharoor’s appeal crosses party lines, and he is widely regarded as a non-conformist within the Congress. He frequently expresses progressive views on various social and political issues, advocating for liberal policies, gender equality, and LGBTQ+ rights. His strong stance on secularism and advocacy for a pluralistic society have earned him respect from a broad spectrum of people across India.

Beyond politics, Tharoor is a prolific author, with numerous critically acclaimed books to his name. His literary works reflect his intellectual depth and command over a wide range of subjects, including history, politics, and culture. Tharoor’s most famous book, “The Great Indian Novel,” is a satirical retelling of the Indian epic Mahabharata, intertwining mythological characters with real-life political figures. His works are celebrated for their insightful analysis and elegant prose.

Shashi Tharoor is contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Thiruvananthapuram.

</excerpt>

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Result: Abhishek Banerjee wins by more than 7 lakh votes in Diamond Harbour constituency in West Bengal.

As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 Result comes to a close, let’s have a look at Abhishek Banerjee who is representing the All India Trinamool Congress from the Diamond Harbour constituency in West Bengal.

He is considered the de facto number two in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for some years now, is currently making efforts to elevate his national profile.

His recent activities, such as accompanying Mamata Banerjee to Opposition unity meetings and representing the TMC in the coordination committee of the INDIA alliance, indicate a concerted effort to establish himself as a leader at the national level.

Rise in Politics

Abhishek has been a Member of Parliament since 2014, but his prominence within the TMC grew significantly following the party’s disappointing performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After the party’s parliamentary seat tally decreased and the BJP made significant gains in West Bengal, Abhishek played a pivotal role in strategizing with poll strategist Prashant Kishor to rejuvenate the party’s prospects.

Following the TMC’s victory in the 2021 Assembly elections, Abhishek’s influence within the party further solidified. He was entrusted with overseeing the party’s expansion plans at the national level. However, the TMC’s attempts to establish a presence in states like Goa, Meghalaya, and Tripura faced setbacks.

Abhishek’s ascent within the TMC has not been without internal challenges, with some party veterans expressing dissatisfaction. Nevertheless, many within the TMC view him as the inevitable heir apparent to Mamata Banerjee.

Abhishek’s recent statewide yatra to bolster grassroots support and his involvement in candidate selection were credited for the TMC’s success in the panchayat polls in June. He has also been vocal in the party’s campaign against frozen Central funds, alleging retaliation by the BJP-led government for losing elections in West Bengal.

Abhishek casted his vote for Lok Sabha Election 2024 on June 1.

This victory reinforces Modi’s stronghold in Varanasi, one of the 80 parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, where he has been elected twice before.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political journey

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political journey began with his active involvement in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his teenage years. He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and steadily rose through its ranks, holding various organizational roles within the party.

Modi appointed as Gujarat CM in 2001

In 2001, Modi was appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a position he held for three consecutive terms until 2014. During his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Narendra Modi prioritized economic growth and infrastructure development. His policies aimed to streamline bureaucracy and attract investment, propelling Gujarat into an industrial powerhouse. Despite controversy surrounding the 2002 Gujarat riots, Modi won re-election in 2002, 2007, and 2012, highlighting public support for his development agenda. His leadership laid the groundwork for his eventual role as Prime Minister of India.

Prime Ministership:

In 2014, Narendra Modi spearheaded the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to an overwhelming triumph in the general elections, clinching a majority in the Lok Sabha. Subsequently, on May 26, 2014, he took the oath of office as the 14th Prime Minister of India. Throughout his tenure, Modi has been instrumental in launching several transformative economic and social initiatives. These include the ambitious “Make in India” campaign aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) focusing on sanitation and cleanliness, and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to streamline the taxation system. In addition to his domestic agenda, Modi’s foreign policy approach has prioritized strengthening diplomatic relations with various nations worldwide, thereby elevating India’s stature on the global stage.

Re-election and Second Term of Modi:

In the 2019 general elections, Narendra Modi once again led the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a decisive victory, securing an even larger mandate than in 2014. Following this resounding win, he was sworn in for a second consecutive term as Prime Minister on May 30, 2019. Throughout his second term, Modi’s government prioritized several key initiatives aimed at addressing longstanding issues and driving transformative changes. This included the historic abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, a significant move aimed at closer integration of the region with the rest of India. Additionally, the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) sparked nationwide debates and discussions, shaping the discourse on citizenship and immigration. Alongside these bold legislative actions, Modi’s administration continued to focus on implementing various economic reforms to stimulate growth and development across sectors.

COVID-19 Pandemic and Response:

Modi’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic faced both praise and criticism. His government implemented nationwide lockdowns to curb the spread of the virus, while also facing challenges such as migrant labor crises and vaccine distribution.

PM Modi’s Global Impact: Strengthening India’s Presence on the World Stage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a significant impact on the international stage through his dynamic diplomacy and assertive foreign policy initiatives. His proactive engagement with global leaders and participation in key international forums have raised India’s profile and enhanced its influence on the world stage. Modi’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with major powers like the United States, Russia, China, and European Union countries have led to closer strategic partnerships and increased cooperation in areas such as defense, trade, and technology.

Additionally, his emphasis on promoting India’s cultural and economic interests through initiatives like the “Make in India” campaign and the International Yoga Day has garnered international attention and goodwill. Modi’s proactive approach to regional diplomacy, particularly in South Asia and the Indo-Pacific, has also helped India play a more assertive role in shaping regional security and economic dynamics. Overall, Prime Minister Modi’s image on the international level is characterized by his leadership, vision, and efforts to position India as a global player and a responsible stakeholder in the international community.

Ongoing Leadership:

Narendra Modi continues to lead the country as Prime Minister, with his leadership shaping India’s political, economic, and social landscape.

Throughout his political career, Narendra Modi has been a polarizing figure, admired by supporters for his decisive leadership and criticized by opponents over various policies and decisions.

As of 2:00 pm, the BJP’s candidate from Amethi had collected 2,26,863 votes; the counting has started.

With 3,17,342 votes, Kishori Lal Sharma leads with reporters in Amethi. In an interview, she congratulated the Gandhi family and the residents of the seat.

“I would like to thank the people of Amethi and the Gandhi family” ANI quoted Kishori Lal Sharma as saying. He added, “However, let the counting conclude. We will talk after that.”

Of the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, Amethi in Uttar Pradesh is one of the most keenly followed seats, partly because of its ties to the Gandhi family. Exit surveys from the seventh round of the votes, conducted on June 1, shortly after the results were in, indicated a close race between Smriti Irani of the BJP and KL Sharma, a Congressman and Gandhi family ally.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which had been a Congress stronghold for a number of years, Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi, the Congress candidate, from Amethi.

Rahul Gandhi ran in two significant Lok Sabha seats in 2024: Waynad in Kerala and Raebareli in Uttar Paradesh. Remarkably, Sonia Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, has been representing the latter since 2004.

The NDA, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, is aiming for a third consecutive term in power after surpassing the majority threshold in early leads. The INDIA alliance is over 200 seats and has defied all exit poll projections.

Now, it’s evident that the outgoing Prime Minister is on the verge of becoming a former one. Taking moral responsibility, he should resign. That’s the message of this election,” Ramesh stated in a post on X.

According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP is currently leading in 242 seats, while the majority mark stands at 272. The Congress is ahead in 95 seats, followed by the Samajwadi Party with 36, DMK with 21, Trinamool Congress with 31, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) with 10, NCP (SP) with 7, CPI(M) with 4, and Aam Aadmi Party with 3.

</excerpt>

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu continues to sweep both Lok Sabha as NDA part and Assembly elections, and it is predicted, that Chandrababu Naidu might become a kingmaker at the national level.

According to early trends, the NDA is crossing the majority threshold, with all 14 seats held by the TDP showing a lead in the Lok Sabha elections.

In this election, the party had contested 17 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats and it is getting wide support from the state.

Out of the 175 seats in the state assembly, the TDP was ahead in 99 seats, its ally Jana Sena in 15, and the BJP in five, bringing the NDA total to 119 seats. In contrast, the Jagan Reddy-led YSR Congress party faced complete defeat, currently securing only 15 seats.

Chandrababu Naidu was a member of the NDA government from 2014 to 2019. He departed from the NDA before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and joined the Congress-led UPA alliance, resulting in losses in both Lok Sabha and assembly polls.

Following these defeats, he distanced himself from the Congress and rejoined the NDA in March 2024, just a few days before the national elections were announced.

Political analysts suggest that factors such as the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu by Jagan Mohan Reddy and allegations of misgovernance & corruption leveled by YSRCP MLAs have swayed the election in their favor.

Nevertheless, seeking to leverage the historical legacy of the Gandhi family in the constituency, Rahul Gandhi has been nominated as the candidate for the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, competing against Dinesh Pratap Singh of the BJP and Thakur Prasad Yadav of the BSP for the Raebareli Lok Sabha seat.

In the preceding Lok Sabha elections of 2019, Sonia Gandhi, representing the INC, emerged victorious with a substantial margin of 1,67,178 votes, garnering a total of 5,34,918 votes, while Dinesh Pratap Singh of the BJP secured 3,67,740 votes.

</excerpt>

The counting of votes cast across 543 constituencies for the Lok Sabha elections commenced on June 4, beginning with postal ballots. These ballots, also known as mail-in ballots, allow registered voters to vote by mail instead of at polling booths. This alternative is especially convenient for individuals who are unable to vote in person due to reasons like old age, being away from their home district, having a disability, or being engaged in essential duties on election day. Media personnel covering the elections were also permitted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to use postal ballots in this general election.

Prior to the counting day, the Opposition-led INDIA bloc requested the poll body to direct Returning Officers to ensure postal ballots are counted and their results declared before the electronic voting machines (EVMs) results are announced. In a letter to the ECI, Opposition leaders noted that the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 requires the counting of postal ballots to begin first. However, they claimed that this statutory practice had been disregarded by the poll body despite its 2019 guidelines.

Current guidelines, as detailed in the 2023 Handbook for Counting Agents, state: “After 30 minutes of commencement of postal ballot counting, the EVM counting can start and continue irrespective of the stage of postal ballot counting. Once the EVM counting is completed, the VVPAT slip counting can also start.”

Opposition’s Concerns

In their letter to the ECI, Opposition parties noted the significant increase in the number of postal ballots in this Lok Sabha election. They pointed out that during the 2020 Bihar elections, the winning margin was 12,700 votes while the number of postal ballots was 52,000. “In fact, there was a huge outcry in Bihar as it was the first election (conducted after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic) where the postal ballots were counted at the end of the counting of EVM votes,” the INDIA bloc stated. They urged the poll body to retract its May 2019 circular and issue directions under Rule 54A of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, which mandates the counting of postal ballots first.

Responding to this demand, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Monday affirmed that the count of postal ballots would commence first across all counting centers, assuring that there was “no doubt about it.”

</excerpt>

As the BJP aims to maintain its dominance in the upcoming Lok Sabha results on Tuesday, a key aspect to watch will be whether it can replicate its 2019 performance, when it secured 224 out of its 303 seats (nearly two-thirds) with over 50% of the vote share.

In 2019, the BJP received over 70% of the vote share in seven seats, between 60% and 70% in 77 seats, and between 50% and 60% in another 140 seats.

The highest vote share was in Gujarat’s Surat, where Darshana Jardosh secured 74.47% of the vote. Interestingly, the Surat seat was won uncontested this time after the Congress candidate’s nomination papers were rejected and the other candidates withdrew.

A significant portion of the BJP’s victories with over 50% of the vote share occurred in states where the party is dominant and primarily opposed by the Congress. Out of the 224 wins with a vote share above 50%, 40 were in Uttar Pradesh, which has a total of 80 seats. In its complete sweep of Gujarat, the BJP won all 26 seats with over 50% of the vote share. Similarly, in Delhi, the party secured all seven seats with at least 50% of the vote share. The BJP also swept Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh, winning all seats in these states with more than 50% of the vote share.

In Rajasthan, the BJP won 23 out of the state’s 25 seats (winning all seats) with over 50% of the vote share. In Haryana, where the party won all 10 seats, it secured nine with a similar margin. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP won 28 out of 29 seats, with 25 of these victories having more than half the votes. In Karnataka, the party was equally dominant, winning 25 out of 28 seats, with 22 of those victories having over 50% of the vote share.

The BJP also secured seats with over 50% of the vote share in other states, including Jharkhand (eight of 14 seats), Chhattisgarh (six of 11), Assam (seven of 14), Goa (one of two), Tripura (one of two), Jammu and Kashmir (two of five), Bihar (14 of 40), Maharashtra (15 of 48), West Bengal (five of 42), and Punjab (one of 13).

Other parties, including BJP allies, collectively won 117 seats with more than 50% of the vote share. The parties with the most such seats were the DMK (19 seats), Congress (18), YSRCP (13), JD(U) (11), and the united Shiv Sena (10).

The Opposition INDIA bloc parties collectively secured 54 seats with more than 50% of the vote share, while other unaffiliated parties won 42 such seats. Altogether, non-BJP, non-NDA parties won a total of 84 seats with over 50% of the vote share, excluding the undivided NCP and Shiv Sena in 2019.

Across all parties, there were 186 seats where the winning margin was less than 10% of the total vote share. In 97 of these seats, the margin was less than 5%.

In the last election, the BJP won 83 seats with a margin of less than 10% of the vote share over the runner-up. Among these, 41 seats had a winning margin of less than 5%.

Other parties that frequently won seats by a margin of less than 10% included the Congress (31 seats), the TMC (11), YSRCP (9), BJD (7), and BSP (6).

</excerpt>

The joint alliance of the Telugu Desam Party and Bhartiya Janata Party is set to form the government in Andhra Pradesh, as per early counting trends.

According to election commission of India, TDP is leading on 127 seats, while BJP is leading on 7 seats.

Meanwhile other parties like, Jansena party is now leading on 17 seats and Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), is leading on 22 seats in the southern state.

Both AP’s Lok Sabha elections and Assembly polls, are witnessing a stiff fight between ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), the Congress-led INDIA coalition, and the BJP-led NDA alliance, which include Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and the Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP).

However, the exit polls had predicted the win for NDA in Andhra Pradesh Assembly Polls.

Moreover, the ruling YSRCP has contested on all 175 seats, in a bid to secure its third term in the state. While TDP is contesting on 144 assembly seats.

Previously in 2019, the YSRCP secured a sweeping victory in Andhra Pradesh, capturing 151 out of the 175 seats in the Assembly, resulting in the overthrow of TDP.

But according to exit polls, the BJP led NDA is most likely to acquire majority in the Lok Sabha polls for the third time.

Amidst the vote counting for Lok Sabha elections 2024, Odisha’s ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD), is leading on 24 seats in the assembly election per early trends.

Meanwhile, Bhartiya Janata Party is close to achieving the halfway mark with 43 seats revealed ECI on assembly elections trends on Tuesday.

According to Poll Body’s current data, other parties like INC (Indian National Congress) and CPI(M) are respectively leading in one and five seats in Odisha.

Meanwhile, the assembly polls in Odisha are being conducted simultaneously with parliamentary elections.

As per exit poll prediction, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, is set to double its tally in the eastern state. Which has long been the bastion of BJD.

Previously in 2019 election, the BJD sustained its robust presence in the state by securing 12 out of 21 seats, although this was a decrease from the seats it won in the 2014.

While congress on the other hand, has witnessed marginal improvement in the state, as it got 1 seat in 2019 elections against none in 2014.

Meanwhile, in the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, out of the 147 seats, the BJD secured victory in 112 seats, while the BJP won 23 and the Congress managed to secure nine seats.

The Lok Sabha elections took place in seven phases, starting from April 19 and continuing on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.

The NDA ally PMK is ahead only in Dharmapuri, while BJP’s Annamalai is trailing in Coimbatore. This year’s Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu, held in a single phase on April 19, saw a voter turnout of 69.72 percent.

Key Candidates and Constituencies:

State BJP Chief K Annamalai: Contesting against DMK’s Ganapathi P and AIADMK’s Singai in Coimbatore.

Kanimozhi (DMK): Facing AIADMK’s R Sivasamy Velumani in Thoothukudi.

Tamilisai Soundararajan (BJP): Former Telangana Governor, contesting from Chennai South.

A Raja (DMK): Former Telecom Minister, competing against BJP’s L Murugan, the Union Minister of State for Fisheries in Nilgiris.

Exit Poll Predictions:

The Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha election results are highly significant, given Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intense campaigning in the state and the BJP’s lack of an alliance with the AIADMK. According to exit polls released by several agencies on June 1, the BJP is projected to gain four seats in the state, while the DMK is expected to achieve a resounding victory, followed by the AIADMK. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP failed to secure a single seat in Tamil Nadu.

The counting of votes began at 8 am, and early trends are showing a lead for the BJP.

According to Election Commission trends, out of the 42 seats, TMC is leading with 23 seats, followed by 6 seats for the BJP and 3 for Congress. West Bengal’s polling took place in 7 phases to elect 42 members of Parliament from the state, with the 7th phase on June 1. Consequently, Mamata Banerjee skipped the INDIA bloc meeting. Senior leaders of the Congress, Samajwadi Party, CPI-M, CPI, DMK, JMM, AAP, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar) met at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on June 1 afternoon, while TMC and PDP did not attend the meeting.

In the exit polls of 2019, pollsters had predicted a close contest between the Modi-led government and TMC, with the BJP expected to win 19 to 23 seats and the Trinamool 19 to 22 seats. Ultimately, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) formed the government by clinching 22 seats, while the BJP came very close by winning 18 seats in the state, and the Indian National Congress (INC) struggled with 2 seats.
