Party sources said that the fact finding committee formed to find put the reason for loss in Lok Sabha elections has submitted its report with the party chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

The report also mentioned that as the party candidates were seen with the Congress leaders, many of the party workers and cadres sat at their homes.

The report further mentioned that Congress and AAP alliance in the national capital failed very badly as people rejected it and thus it blamed the AAP of not winning a single seat from the national capital.

The BJP, meanwhile, won on a the seven seats for third time in a row. The Congress was again unable to win a single seat from the national capital.

</excerpt>

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is said to have accepted an invitation to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday, according to a report from local media. The news portal Edition.mv cited its Dhivehi sister publication, Mihaaru News, confirming his attendance, along with several other senior government officials. However, there has been no official confirmation yet from the Maldives President’s Office regarding Muizzu’s first official visit to India.

Prime Minister Modi is set for a third consecutive term as Prime Minister of India, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerging victorious in the parliamentary elections. Wishes from global leaders poured in swiftly following PM Modi’s win.

In an earlier statement on Wednesday, President Muizzu congratulated PM Modi and expressed his willingness to collaborate to enhance bilateral ties. He stated, “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP and BJP-led NDA, on the success in the 2024 Indian General Election, for the third consecutive term. I look forward to working together to advance our shared interests in pursuit of shared prosperity and stability for our two countries.”

In response to the post, Prime Minister Modi thanked Maldives President and expressed anticipation for closer cooperation to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations. “Thank you President @MMuizzu. Maldives is our valued partner and neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region. I too look forward to closer cooperation for further strengthening our bilateral ties,” PM Modi stated.

This would mark President Muizzu’s inaugural official visit to India since assuming office on November 17 last year. Notably, Muizzu, known for his pro-China stance, diverged from his predecessors’ protocol by choosing to visit Turkey first and subsequently China for his first state visit in January.

Shortly after he was sworn in, President Muizzu stirred bilateral tensions by demanding the removal of approximately 88 Indian military personnel from the Maldives. These personnel were repatriated from three aviation platforms and replaced by Indian civilians by the May 10 deadline set by President Muizzu.

The counting of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was held on Tuesday. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, and with its allies has 292 seats in the Parliament. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong growth winning 99 seats.

Other leaders also congratulated PM Modi and the BJP-led NDA government on their third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to host leaders from neighbouring countries, such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and Mauritius, in addition to the Maldives, aligning with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, a key figure in the opposition bloc, will convene the meeting, which coincides with the final phase of polling on June 1.

However, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee has stated that she cannot attend the meeting due to elections scheduled for nine seats in West Bengal on the same day. Mamata Banerjee said, “The INDIA team is holding a meeting on June 1. I have told them I can’t join as we have election on 9 seats in West Bengal on the same day. Punjab, Bihar & UP also have elections on June 1. One one side is the cyclone, and on the other side, it is elections – I have to do everything. Cyclone relief is my priority right now.”

A few days ago, Mamata Banerjee stated that her party would provide “outside support” to the Opposition alliance if it manages to form a government at the Centre.

“We (TMC) will support the INDIA bloc from outside to form a government at the Centre. We will extend our support so that in (West) Bengal, our mothers and sisters never face a problem… and those who work in the 100 days’ job scheme, also do not face problems,” she said.

The day after her remark about outside support, the TMC chief clarified that she is “very much part of the INDIA alliance” at the national level. “At all India level, some people have misunderstood my statement yesterday. I am very much part of the INDIA alliance. The INDIA alliance was my brainchild. We are together at the national level and will continue to be together.”

Voting is scheduled for nine seats in West Bengal on June 1, including two seats in Kolkata: Kolkata Dakshin and Kolkata Uttar. Other constituencies include Jadavpur, Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jayanagar, Mathurapur, and Diamond Harbour.

The meeting’s agenda will cover discussions on the opposition’s strategy ahead of the election results announcement on June 4 and an evaluation of their performance during the seven-phase elections. The opposition alliance, comprising 28 parties, is confident in its ability to prevent the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from returning to power and aims to form its own government.

Previous meetings of the INDIA bloc have taken place in various cities, including Patna, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, where resolutions were adopted to collectively contest the Lok Sabha elections. While the TMC does not have a seat-sharing arrangement with the Congress or any other party in West Bengal, it has supported the Samajwadi Party’s candidate, Laliteshpati Tripathi, in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi.

Meanwhile, the ruling alliance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated its confidence in securing a third consecutive term in government.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “false clarification” over his comments against “those with more children” and “infiltrators,” which were interpreted by many as disparaging Muslims, was questioned by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi. Owaisi charged that during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi and the BJP fostered extreme animosity towards Muslims by disseminating false information.

Owaisi said, “In his speech, Modi had labelled Muslims as infiltrators and those with too many children.” in a statement on X. He now says he didn’t want to address Hindu-Muslim relations or Muslims in general. Why did it take so long to provide this erroneous explanation? The foundation of Modi’s political career has been anti-Muslim sentiment.

“In this election, Modi and the BJP have propagated numerous falsehoods and incited tremendous animosity against Muslims. It’s not just Modi under scrutiny but also every voter who supported the BJP despite these speeches,” Owaisi added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an interview with News18, clarified his remarks on “infiltrators” and “those with more children,” stating that he wasn’t specifically targeting Muslims but referring to all poor families. He emphasized that he avoids playing the Hindu-Muslim card and believes in inclusive development.

“I am surprised. Who told you that mentioning people with more children implies they are Muslims? Why unfairly target Muslims? Poverty leads to large families, irrespective of religion. I didn’t specify Hindu or Muslim. I advocated for responsible family planning. Don’t burden the government to care for your children,” the Prime Minister stated on Tuesday.

PM Modi also reflected on the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat during his tenure as Chief Minister, acknowledging that his image among Muslims was tarnished after 2002. He emphasized his commitment to refrain from playing religious politics.

Asked about Muslim support in the elections, PM Modi asserted that people of the country, regardless of religion, will vote for him. He reiterated his pledge to avoid Hindu-Muslim politics.

Previously, in a public rally in Rajasthan, PM Modi accused the Congress of planning to redistribute wealth, alleging they aimed to distribute assets among those with more children. He referred to Congress’s purported plans to conduct surveys and redistribute wealth, including women’s jewelry.

Prime Minister Modi filed his nomination papers from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, seeking a third consecutive term. Varanasi will vote in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha polls on June 1, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.

Expressing faith in Annamalai’s capability to represent Coimbatore in Parliament, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the impending elections.

“With the blessings of the people, I am confident that you will reach the Parliament. Team members like you are a great asset for me. As a team, we will leave no stone unturned for the welfare of the people of constituency and the country,” read the letter.

Families across India, especially the senior members, would remember the difficulties they have gone through in the 5-6 decades of Congress’ rule. In the last 10 years, the quality of life of every section of society has improved, with many of these troubles removed. Yet, a lot more is still to be done and this election will be decisive in our mission to ensure a better life for everyone,” it added.

He encouraged voters to contemplate the advancements made over the past decade and reiterated the BJP’s dedication to continually improving the quality of life for all segments of society.

“This election is an opportunity to connect our present with a bright future. Every vote that the BJP gets will go towards forming a stable government and impart momentum in our journey to become a developed nation by 2047,” the letter read.

“At this crucial time, I also urge you and all other workers to make full use of the last few hours of the election campaign. At the same time, I also request you to take care of your health and that of other people around you,” the letter added.

In his correspondence, Prime Minister Modi urged candidates and party workers to escalate their campaign efforts while prioritizing their health, especially considering the challenging summer conditions.

“I appeal to the voters to cast their votes early in the morning, before the heat sets in,” the letter said.

Wrapping up with a message of reassurance and determination, Prime Minister Modi reiterated his unwavering commitment to the welfare of citizens and extended his heartfelt wishes for the success of all BJP and NDA candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Congress liberated the country, developed the country, and now Congress will protect the country.”

He also criticized the BJP, alleging that the government is once again plotting to undermine democracy.

“Those who are involved in illegal activities, those who are running buses, those who are involved in crimes and sell liquor, BJP has opened its arms for such people,” he alleged.

</excerpt>

Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Friday granted a 60-day extension to the city police to complete its investigation in the NewsClick case filed under the anti-terror law UAPA.
Special Judge Hardeep Kaur also extended the judicial custody of Prabir Purkayastha, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the news portal, along with Amit Chakravarty, the Human Resources department head, until January 20, 2024.

This decision came in response on a plea moved by the Delhi Police seeking additional time to finalize their investigation.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police had apprehended Purkayastha and Chakravarty on October 3, 2023. According to the FIR, a substantial sum of funds from China was channeled to the news portal with the intention of “disrupting the sovereignty of India” and fostering disaffection against the country.

The FIR also alleged that Purkayastha conspired with a group called the People’s Alliance for Democracy and Secularism (PADS) to undermine the electoral process during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Raids were conducted at 88 locations in Delhi and seven in other states on October 3 targeting the individuals named in the FIR and those identified in data analysis.
The police reported the seizure of approximately 300 electronic gadgets from the offices of NewsClick and the residences of the journalists who underwent examination.
Following the raids, the Special Cell questioned 46 individuals, including nine female journalists.

</excerpt>

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has begin its meeting today at ‘The Ashoka Hotel’ in New Delhi, with 38 political parties in attendance, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A total of 38 political parties are participating in the meeting.

According to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), some of the 38 parties have left the NDA and rejoined the alliance “to strengthen India,” while the saffron party remains dedicated to its “ideology.”

This gathering is taking place on the same day as 26 opposition parties will meet for the second time in a month to plan for the approaching elections. However, just nine parties hold 10 or more Lok Sabha seats (the nine account for 479 MPs).

It is very possible that at least some of the opposition grouping’s 26 potential constituents, as well as the NDA’s 38, are not represented in the Lok Sabha; only 37 parties have members in the lower house of Parliament.
