</excerpt>

It was a big victory for Indian forces, as an important attempt at infiltration through the Line of Control (LoC) in Gambhir sector of Rajouri district was prevented on Sunday. Indian Army, assisted by Border Security Force (BSF), arrested a Pakistani citizen who was serving as the guide to heavily equipped Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists.

Infiltrators attempted to enter India via thick jungles and hilly areas, but alert troops staged a rapid counter-infiltration exercise. The arrested person, Mohammad Arib Ahmed of Kotli district of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has provided vital information regarding the involvement of Pakistan Army.

Timely Intelligence Led to Operation

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Indian troops launched a well-coordinated counter-infiltration operation in Rajouri’s Gambhir sector. Troops noticed suspicious movement by four to five armed individuals. These terrorists attempted to exploit poor visibility and rugged terrain to breach the LoC.

However, the aggressive surveillance posture of Indian Army paid off. Alert personnel intercepted the movement and engaged in a decisive operation. During this action, they captured one individual alive.

Arrested Guide Connected to Pakistan Army

The arrested individual was found to be Mohammad Arib Ahmed, son of Mohammad Yousuf, a local of Detote in Nikiyal, PoK. In initial interrogation, Arib admitted he was working under direction from Pakistan Army officials deputed at forward postings.

He also ascertained that the infiltrators were JeM terrorists. They had warlike material such as weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating materials. This strongly indicated a planned and sponsored attempt to infiltrate.

JeM Terrorists Wounded & Compelled to Retreat

The operation compelled the remaining four infiltrators to withdraw under intense pressure. Inclement weather and dense jungles assisted them in fleeing back across the LoC. They probably got injured in the exchange, though.

A subsequent search operation resulted in the retrieval of a mobile phone, Pakistani currency, and other sensitive materials. These are being analyzed.

Interrogation Provides Important Intel

The arrested guide is now undergoing intensive questioning by a joint intelligence team. Officials are obtaining valuable information that will serve to further tighten the counter-infiltration grid along the LoC.

The successful action of the Army not only thwarted a fatal incursion but revealed the still active support role of Pakistan’s army in assisting terror organizations.

</excerpt>

As tensions mounted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district in the wake of last week’s terror attack at Pahalgam, border residents are gearing up their underground ‘Modi Bunkers’ in anticipation of any escalation.

Villagers Prepare Underground ‘Modi Bunkers’

In settlements such as Salotri and Karmarha close to Pakistani army camps, locals are emptying out and storing up their bunkers with rations as a preventive measure.

After getting used to years of comparative peace, these villagers are now preparing for potential war. Video shows them stacking up blankets, beds, and other items as they prepare for any impending threats.

“The people had forgotten the bunkers. The bunkers are being cleaned again now. There is an atmosphere of fear, but we hope harmony will prevail in the valley,” a resident of Karmarha village told ANI.

Strong Support for Government and Army

Another villager echoed strong sentiments in favor of the government and army, condemning the Pahalgam terror attack and asserting willingness to help, even to give their lives.

“We are with the government, we stand by them. We strongly condemn the terror attack, we are in support of our army and administration. Whenever they need us, we are ready to provide any possible support, even lay down our lives,” the resident told ANI.

#WATCH | Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir | People of Karmarha village near the Line of Control clean the bunkers that were built by the government for the safety of the people pic.twitter.com/pPsmxqE416

“Earlier, there used to be firing incidents in this area. Our village is located near the LoC. We are cleaning the bunkers so that we can move our family to safety during such incidents. We are thankful to the central government for providing us with such bunkers,” he added.

What Are ‘Modi Bunkers’ on the LoC?

Underground bunkers, known as ‘Modi bunkers,’ have been the lifeline for residents of the border areas during ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC), ANI reported.

These bunkers, constructed predominantly during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure, have been instrumental in saving lives during times of heavy cross-border firing.

Renovations Underway as Tensions Escalate

The government had earlier provided economic aid and technical aid for constructing individual and collective bunkers in vulnerable areas such as Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara.

With tensions escalating, locals have started renovating the shelters, which had become inactive during the past years of peace.

Security personnel in the region are on their toes, and the administration has asked civilians to remain alert.

</excerpt>

Poonch/Jammu, July 3: Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, urging troops to remain steadfast in facing all security challenges, officials said.

This marked Gen Dwivedi’s first visit to the Jammu region since assuming the role of the 30th Chief of the Indian Army on June 30. The visit is significant given the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and extensive anti-terror operations, especially in the hilly districts.

Arriving in Jammu in the morning, the Army Chief proceeded to the border district of Poonch to assess the security and operational readiness along the LoC, according to officials.

In a post on ‘X’, the additional directorate general of public information of the Army stated that Chief of Army Staff Dwivedi, along with Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar and General Officer Commanding of the Jammu-based White Knight Corps Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva, visited forward locations of the ‘XVI Corps’ (White Knight Corps) to review the security situation along the LoC.

“He was briefed on the operational preparedness by the commanders on the ground. The COAS lauded all ranks for maintaining high standards of professionalism and exhorted them to remain steadfast to meet all current and emerging security challenges,” the additional directorate general of public information said.

Photos shared by the Army show Gen Dwivedi interacting with troops, reflecting his engagement with the personnel on the ground.

Earlier, officials reported that the Army Chief chaired a meeting of field commanders upon reaching Poonch before proceeding to the forward areas. He also met with some ex-servicemen at the 93 Infantry Brigade.

Gen Dwivedi, who served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command from 2022 to 2024, is scheduled to return to Delhi in the evening after flying back to Jammu, the officials added.

The situation along the Line of Control (LoC) remains stable, and security agencies are committed to taking all necessary measures to maintain this stability, stated a senior Army officer on Sunday.

Lt General Rajiv Ghai, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Army 15 Corps, addressed reporters at the Bipin Rawat Stadium in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district after a ceremony honoring Kargil War veterans on the 25th anniversary of Vijay Diwas.

“The situation on the borders is stable. Whatever is needed to keep the situation stable will be done by the security agencies,” Lt General Ghai assured.

Responding to a question regarding the statement made by Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain, which mentioned that 70 to 80 foreign terrorists were active in the Union Territory, Lt General Ghai confirmed the accuracy of the police chief’s remark.

“As far as the numbers are concerned, the DGP has stated a fact. How the security agencies are proceeding against them, you know very well how the operations are conducted,” Lt General Ghai added.

DGP Swain had informed reporters in Pulwama on Saturday that the number of local terrorists was declining, whereas there were 70 to 80 foreign terrorists currently operating in the Union Territory.

“We are moving from resident terrorism to foreign terrorism. Resident terrorism means when local boys join the ranks. Their number has come down … There are 70 to 80 foreign terrorists who have come in. They have been trying to come here regularly and, when they do come, they bring along guns and IEDs,” Swain had explained.

The statements from both officials highlight the ongoing efforts of security agencies to tackle terrorism and maintain peace along the LoC.

</excerpt>

Jammu, April 02: Joint security forces have initiated extensive search operations in response to the sighting of a suspected Pakistani drone in the Arnia area, located along the Indo-Pakistan International Border. Reports indicate that the drone was observed flying approximately 2.5 kilometers into Indian territory, prompting swift action from authorities to prevent any potential threats.

The incident unfolded around 9:30 PM when locals in the Treva area of the Arnia sector reported the movement of a drone. Subsequently, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF), swiftly mobilized to the scene and commenced searches in the vicinity. Notably, this region has long been identified as a traditional infiltration route for terrorists from Pakistan, adding significance to the ongoing operation.

Senior police officials, including DySP RS Pura Nikhil Gogna and SHO Arnia Rouf Ahmad Khan, were promptly deployed to oversee the search efforts. This development follows closely on the heels of another incident earlier in the day, where a Pakistani drone was repelled in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, situated along the Line of Control (LoC).

Sources with knowledge of the matter have indicated that security agencies possess credible intelligence regarding Pakistan’s attempts to smuggle narcotics, weapons, and cash into Indian territory using drones. These nefarious activities are believed to be part of a broader strategy aimed at destabilizing the region, particularly in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha Polls scheduled to commence on the 19th of this month.

As the search operations continue, authorities remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding the integrity and security of the border region. Further updates on the situation are expected as the investigation progresses.

Their continuous efforts are aimed at thwarting infiltration attempts originating from Pakistan.

Describing the LoC as a crucial barrier, the official noted its history of past infiltrations and security threats. </excerpt>

In a proactive operation, Indian security forces thwarted an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist. The attempt was made by terrorists exploiting poor visibility and adverse weather conditions.

Officials reported that the ongoing operation is a testament to the heightened alertness and preparedness of the security troops. Last month, a similar effort was successfully countered in the Uri sector, where two terrorists were neutralized.

The Army, acting on intelligence inputs and collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police, had strengthened the counter-infiltration grid in anticipation of such activities. The recent operation unfolded amidst challenging weather conditions, characterized by continuous rainfall and limited visibility.

The encounter with the infiltrating group led to a significant exchange of gunfire, culminating in the elimination of one terrorist. The recovered items from the site included six pistols, four Chinese grenades, blankets, and two bags containing Pakistani and Indian currency notes, along with Pakistani medicines and eatables. The success of these operations underscores the commitment of security forces to maintaining the integrity and security of the region.
