</excerpt>

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has criticized AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for referring to Atishi as a “temporary Chief Minister,” accusing him of making disparaging remarks that undermine democratic values. In response, Atishi hit back, accusing Saxena of engaging in “dirty politics” and urging him to focus on improving Delhi.

Saxena expressed his disappointment over Kejriwal’s comments, describing them as a personal insult to Atishi and a slight to both the office of the Chief Minister and his own role as a representative of the President. In a letter to Atishi, Saxena condemned Kejriwal’s words, saying they reflected poorly on the integrity of the Delhi government and undermined its democratic practices. He also criticized Kejriwal for making baseless claims about non-existent government schemes, which he argued misled the public and eroded trust in the administration.

Saxena also mentioned Kejriwal’s previous statement regarding Atishi’s potential arrest over a fake case related to the transport department, which was later denied. He expressed regret over the negative portrayal of Atishi, emphasizing that it could harm her credibility and her leadership role as Chief Minister. In contrast, Saxena praised Atishi for her effective leadership, noting that she managed several portfolios and worked diligently for the government, unlike Kejriwal, who did not hold any department during his tenure. Earlier, Saxena had complimented Atishi, calling her “a thousand times better” than Kejriwal.

Atishi responded to Saxena’s letter, asserting that she was following the path set by Kejriwal, who had worked for the betterment of Delhi for nearly a decade. She also criticized Saxena for obstructing the Mahila Samman Yojana, a scheme offering Rs 1,000 per month to women in Delhi, and promised an increase to Rs 2,100 if AAP won the upcoming assembly elections. Atishi, expressing her personal hurt as a woman, accused Saxena of hindering this initiative.

Atishi became the Chief Minister of Delhi on September 21, following Kejriwal’s resignation after being released from prison in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. During Kejriwal’s incarceration, Atishi became the public face of AAP, representing the party’s positions in media briefings.

</excerpt>

Although LG exited the smartphone market in 2021, the company continues to innovate in electronics and display technologies. At the LG Science Park in South Korea, LG unveiled a groundbreaking stretchable display prototype that can stretch up to 50% its size without compromising functionality.

This new prototype represents a significant advancement over the version LG demonstrated in 2022. The stretchable display can now endure up to 10,000 stretches without losing performance, making it one of the most durable and flexible screen technologies to date. Dubbed the Free-Form display, this technology allows the screen to stretch, fold, and twist, offering unprecedented versatility in display design.

The current prototype measures 12 inches but can expand to an impressive 18 inches. While its pixel density is 100ppi—lower than the 300ppi or higher commonly found in modern smartphones—the focus of this technology is on flexibility and durability rather than high-resolution visuals.

LG has revealed that the stretchable display uses silicon substrates similar to those found in contact lenses, contributing to its flexibility. The display is powered by a micro-LED light source, ensuring consistent image quality under various temperature conditions.

The potential applications for stretchable screens are vast. These displays, which are ultra-thin, lightweight, and capable of being affixed to curved or uneven surfaces like clothing or skin, could transform industries. In one demonstration, LG integrated the display into a firefighter’s suit to display real-time information. Another example showed a convex vehicle screen that could be controlled by hand gestures. These innovations could revolutionize sectors such as wearable tech, automotive interfaces, and safety equipment.

While the technology is still in its prototype stage, it represents a major leap forward in display innovation. It may be some time before stretchable screens appear in consumer products, but LG’s latest development offers a glimpse into the future of display technology.

</excerpt>

Aiming to sway voters ahead of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi combined political and emotional appeals while launching his party’s campaign on Wednesday. With elections set to begin in less than two weeks, Gandhi focused on the restoration of statehood and highlighted the deep-rooted ties his family has with the region, stretching back to his great-grandfather, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for its first election in nearly a decade—and its first since becoming a Union Territory after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019—Gandhi emphasized the need to restore statehood. He also criticized J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, labeling him a ‘raja’ (king), and accused the BJP-led central government of mismanaging the region.

The BJP, gearing up to commence its campaign on Friday with rallies led by Home Minister Amit Shah, responded by accusing the Congress-National Conference alliance of receiving support from militants.

During a rally in Dooru for Congress candidate Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Gandhi, alongside National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, pointed to several central decisions that had been reversed as evidence of the opposition I.N.D.I.A alliance’s growing influence. He assured that a vote for the I.N.D.I.A alliance would lead to the restoration of statehood for J&K.

“In 1947, we removed the kings and established a democratic government. We gave the country a Constitution. Yet, today a ‘raja’ is ruling Jammu and Kashmir. His title is LG, but he acts as a king. Your resources are being misappropriated and your rights stripped away. Restoring statehood to J&K is crucial because it wasn’t just your state that was taken; your wealth and rights have been too,” Gandhi said. At another rally in Anantnag, Gandhi spoke of the personal connections he and his family have with the region.

</excerpt>

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena headed the meeting for Yamuna rejuvenation on Saturday along with the NGT-constituted high-level committee and has finalized taken eight parameters with monthly targets till June.

Meanwhile, for Yamuna rejuvenation parameters include augmenting sewage treatment, sewage treatment plants (STPs), tapping and cleaning of drains, sewage network in unauthorized colonies and JJ clusters, septage management, minimum environmental flow, upgradation of 13 CETPs for treatment and management.

Earlier on Friday the Delhi L-G chaired the first meeting of the high-level committee.

“After taking stock of the prevalent situation of water quality in the river Yamuna and the various drains in the city, along with the status of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in the city and dwelling upon the gaps in the actions taken till now, the meeting deliberated upon a concrete future plan of action,” LG office stated.

Moreover, till 31 January committee has been asked to submit its first report.

“A six-month plan of action till June 2023, with monthly targets, was decided upon. The same will be monitored on a weekly basis and the first report to the NGT will be submitted on January 31,” the statement further said.

“The task at hand is difficult due to legacy neglect, but yet achievable. Ensure implementation of the decisions taken today in a mission mode, without extending committed timelines. Any shortcoming on part of officials will not be accepted,” Delhi L-G said.

Earlier on 9 January the National Green Tribunal a committee was constituted for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna.

Following the Supreme Court order the bench observed and said, “It does appear that the situation to a great extent remains unsatisfactory, in violation of the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and orders of this Tribunal, fixing rigid timelines which are being defied at whims, without accountability and without visible improvement in the ground situation. Thus, an effective execution regime appears to be necessary with the involvement of topmost administrative authorities with the flexibility of procedures for the award of works for execution of pollution prevention projects.”

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the filling of review petition against the acquittal of the three accused in the Chhawla rape and murder case, as informed by the sources at LG secretariat.

The accused were convicted and awarded death sentence by the trial court and Delhi High Court for the gangrape and murder of a 19 old girl in south-west Delhi’s Chhawla area. The top court’s decision to acquit them prompted the victim’s parents to seek police protection out of fear. The accused were booked on February 13, 2012, and the police after investigation filed the charge sheet and the court of sessions framed charges against all three accused, namely Rahul, Ravi Kumar, and Vinod alias Chhotu on May 26, 2012.

These three accused knocked the doors of Supreme Court and challenged the judgement of High Court and the Supreme Court then allowed the above appeals and the judgments and orders of conviction and sentence passed by the Trial Court and High Court were set aside.

The approval comes days after the parents of 2012 Chhawla gangrape victim met Delhi LG VK Saxena and requested him to file a review petition against the acquittal of the three accused. According to the sources, LG has also appointed Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and additional SG Aishwarya Bhatti to represent the case before the Supreme Court.

The 19-year-old was a resident of Chhawla, Delhi and was abducted from Qutub Vihar. The girl was subjected to the utmost horrors before being murdered brutally.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has asked CM Arvind Kejriwal to remove Jasmine Shah from the post of Vice Chairman of the Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) for allegedly misusing his office for political purposes.

The LG has also directed restrict the chief minister to restrict Jasmine Shah from “discharging his duties” as the vice chairman of DDC and from using any “privilege and facilities” associated with the office of Vice Chairman, DDC with immediate effect till a “decision is taken by CM” in this regard, the L-G office said on Friday. The office chamber of the Vice Chairman, DDC at 33, Shamnath Marg in Delhi has been sealed “in order to prevent access to the premises.”

“An administrative order to this effect was issued by the planning department of Delhi Government on Thursday, in compliance of which the SDM, Civil Lines sealed the office premises of DDC late Thursday night,” the L-G office said.

“Vide order No. 2/12/P1g/DDCD/2022/10895-10900 dated 17.11.2022, the Hon’ble Lt.
Prisoned “conman” Sukesh Chandrashekhar on Friday agreed to a polygraph test to verify his charges of corruption in a new letter to Delhi lieutenant governor (L-G) VK Saxena. He also asked that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and imprisoned AAP leader Satyendar Jain take the test.

“Kejriwal Ji, instead of crying foul… have the courage and guts to agree for the polygraph test,” the conman wrote in the letter, released by his lawyer.

Chandrashekhar suggested that the polygraph tests of Kejriwal, Jain and himself be conducted face-to-face and the entire process be live telecast “so that the whole country can watch the pandora box of the reality of Mr. Kejriwal and Mr. Jain enfold [sic] in open”.

“Don’t divert the issue, like how you and Mr. Jain used to tell me and laugh in good times that attack is the best form of defence…people are not foolish to believe your drama anymore,” Chandrashekhar, who is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection to an alleged multi-crore fraud case, added.

In addition, he urged the media to avoid from referring to him as a “conman,” noting that he had not yet received a conviction in the fraud proceedings brought against him.

He published multiple letters in recent weeks in which he accused Jain of extorting 10 crore from him. In addition, he charged that Kejriwal was “seeking 50 crore for a nomination to the Rajya Sabha,” and that the jail administration as well as former DG Sandeep Goel were complicit.

Chandrashekhar said in a letter to Saxena on Thursday that he had been threatened with having his case against the AAP leaders dismissed. Additionally, he requested to be moved to a jail outside the city.

</excerpt>

Officials with knowledge of the situation claimed deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia met with lieutenant governor VK Saxena to ask him to approve the files pertaining to the Dilli Ki Yogshala project.

“I have requested the LG that this programme should not be stopped. More than 17,000 people who were affected by Covid and others were benefited by learning Yoga, and keeping the citizens healthy is the responsibility of the government,” Sisodia said, according to an official statement.

According to the statement, the LG has assured Sisodia that he will go through all the files.

According to the statement, Sisodia further claimed that the BJP was forcing authorities to halt the government’s main initiative.

“I told LG Saxena that the Dilli Ki Yogshala programme is very beneficial for people of Delhi and these 17,000 people come from common backgrounds and cannot hire Yoga instructors on their own. I have requested the LG to go out of the way to help these people,” he said.

Regarding the deputy CM’s visit, the LG made no remarks.

The BJP, however, disregarded Sisodia’s accusation as baseless. “Like many other issues, the Delhi government did not get the appropriate authority’s approval before starting this scheme. The file has already been delivered to the LG. “In a metropolis of two crore people, the project would not have benefited only 17,000 people over the past 18 months if the government had genuinely marketed it,” said Praveen Shankar Kapoor, a BJP spokesperson in Delhi.

The government offers free yoga lessons at 600 different venues throughout Delhi as part of the “Dilli Ki Yogshala” scheme. These yoga courses are offered in public areas and parks where anybody can attend.

Even though it is illegal to burst firecrackers in the nation’s capital, the Delhi Fire Service has made all the necessary preparations to handle fire occurrences on Diwali. On Monday, the director of the Delhi Fire Service informed the news agency ANI that they “have not let their guard down.” He added that because of the restrictions, they do not anticipate many instances.
“We are prepared with drones and to access high-rise buildings. Fire tenders have been deployed near congested areas. However, we expect there will not be many fire-related incidents as firecrackers are banned,” he said.
In order to increase fire safety and reaction times to fire catastrophes, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena earlier this month instructed the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) to build 16 new fire stations throughout the city and add 130 fire tenders to its fleet.
The LG had instructed the fire department to make it easier for all types of business premises and healthcare facilities to obtain fire safety clearances (No Objection Certificates, or NOCs) while serving as the meeting’s chair. In order to improve the reaction time in the event of an emergency, he also ordered the DFS to identify 50 susceptible spots in the city and deploy fire tenders at these locations.
Meanwhile, Delhi has outlawed firecrackers completely owing to rising air pollution. Gopal Rai, the environment minister for Delhi, had previously stated that setting off crackers during Diwali in Delhi may result in a six-month jail sentence and a $200 fine. According to Section 9B of the Explosives Act, producing, keeping, and selling fireworks in the capital is punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 and three years in prison.

Ashwani Kumar, a special officer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), has been named principal secretary (home) in the Delhi government, according to a Friday order from lieutenant governor VK Saxena.

Kumar, a 1992 batch IAS officer from AGMUT cadre, will also continue to hold the charge of special officer of MCD, the order, issued by the deputy secretary (services) Anju Mangla on October 7, said.

“Lieutenant governor is pleased to post Ashwani Kumar, special officer, Municipal Corporation of Delhi as principal secretary (home) with immediate effect in pursuance of the approval by competent authority of the transaction of business of Government of National Capital Territory rule, 1993,” the order said.

On May 20, 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs designated Kumar as the special officer. During the transitional time until new elections are held to the united MCD after the delimitation procedure, Kumar was in charge of the operations of the deliberative elected wing of the MCD.

Prior to being transferred to Puducherry in November 2017, where he served as chief secretary till May 20, 2022, Kumar was the senior secretary of the Delhi government’s public works department (PWD) and the director of vigilance.

His earlier time in the capital’s elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cabinet was characterised by conflict.

The controversy started with his nomination as the PWD secretary in August 2016, a step for which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal criticised the Centre and the L-G since, according to the AAP, it was done without consulting the CM.

Kejriwal wrote to MM Kutty, the then chief secretary, in June 2017 and asked that he file a “dereliction of duty” complaint against Kumar for the improper and delayed de-silting of drains.

The officer hit back, saying “negativity and a squabbling” does not help address civic challenges.The petitions committee of the Delhi assembly summoned Kumar in October 2017 for allegedly misleading a house panel about the issue of desilting sewers. Later, he succeeded in getting the Delhi High Court to stay the order.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena lashed out at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday and said Kejriwal’s duty towards people of the national capital was to raise issues including “anomalies in excise policy” and “files not being signed by CM”.

In a series of tweets, LG said, “Abiding by the Constitution and my duties towards the people of Delhi, I flagged the issues of: 1. Grave anomalies in Excise Policy later withdrawn by the Cabinet headed by CM @ArvindKejriwalji himself, 2. Inordinate delay of 2.5 years in acting on CVC report on irregularities in the construction of Classrooms in Delhi Govt Schools 3. Files not being signed by CM @ArvindKejriwal Ji 4. CAG audits not being conducted timely in State Universities 5. Cabinet notes reaching me after Cabinet meetings, and 6. Non-availability of water in Foreign Missions, among others.”

Meanwhile, LG said in the right spirit he expected the address of CM Kejriwal.

“Unfortunately, the response has been nothing but subterfuge amounting to the defense of the indefensible and abusive personal attack on me,” LG said.

“As a public representative, CM needs to explain to the people ‘his art’ of converting Rs 17 lakhs, ascertained by CBI as demonetized currency exchanged by 2 employees of Khadi Bhawan Delhi, into Rs 1400 Cr as claimed by AAP,” LG added.

LG further added for good governance, zero tolerance for corruption, and better services Kejwiral was elected.

“But unfortunately CM @ArvindKejriwal Ji in desperation has resorted to diversionary tactics and false accusations. I would not be surprised if in the coming days more such baseless personal attacks are made on me and my family,” LG said.

“He should know that I will under no circumstances whatsoever be deterred from my constitutional duties. My commitment to improving the lives of the people of Delhi remains unwavering,” the LG said.

However, Delhi Lieutenant Governor had decided to take legal action against Aam Aadmi Party leaders Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, Durgesh Pathak, and Jasmine Shah among others.

The LG House officials said, “For highly defamatory and false allegations of corruption by them, attributed to his tenure as Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).”
