Meghan Markle Praised for Donating Her Clothes to LA Wildfire Victims

February 5, 2025, 2:29 pm

Meghan Markle has been applauded for donating her personal clothing to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires. She collaborated with a local charity, Altadena Girls, founded by 14-year-old Avery Colvert, in order to assist teenage girls who lost their belongings in the devastating fires.

Meghan is so kind. All the girls that were coming in, they got to be styled by Meghan Markle,” shared Colvert, adding that the Duchess of Sussex was involved far beyond just a donation: She helped the teens pick out outfits, using stylist training to guide them. She even personally lugged bags of supplies to cars.

Besides her hands-on work, Meghan’s Archewell Foundation is still supporting the charity and even helped secure a permanent space for Altadena Girls. Still, some, including actress Justine Bateman, criticized Meghan and Harry, claiming they were taking advantage of the situation for a “repulsive photo op” and branding them “disaster tourists.”

This was Harry and Meghan, who were photographed in Pasadena, visiting the city’s mayor and sheltering evacuees in their grounds. They were also donating to the community what people needed, especially essential items.

LA Wildfires: President Trump to Visit Fire-Stricken California

January 24, 2025, 12:36 pm

President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit western North Carolina, recently hit by hurricanes, and wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles on Friday, marking his first trip since starting his second term.

Trump has also criticized Former President Joe Biden for handling the crisis in North Carolina and accused California’s leadership of implementing water policies that have worsened conditions from the wildfires. He recently tweeted, “I don’t think we should give California anything until they let the water run down,” during an interview with Sean Hannity of the Fox News Channel.

According to the reports, the White House has requested California’s congressional representatives from all parties, including Democrats, to organize a roundtable in a Santa Monica airplane hangar during Trump’s visit. The meeting would focus on disaster management and response strategies.

Trump also presented the idea of delegating more responsibilities to the state governments to deal with disasters. He recommended using federal disaster relief funds as bargaining chips in unrelated legislative measures, such as in passing government borrowing or to compel California to change its water-conservation policies.

“Southern California and California has always been there for other regions of the country in their time of crisis, and we expect our country to be there for us,” said California Democrat Senator Alex Padilla, who expressed concern over the federal response.

Trump’s response to disaster has been one of the most contentious policies he has undertaken. According to former administration officials, during his first term, he was considering cutting aid to Democratic states that didn’t vote for him. Michael Coen, former FEMA chief of staff under the Biden administration, said Trump is ‘misinformed; about the agency’s critical role in helping states during emergencies.

During the campaign, Trump has made disaster visits to areas that have been affected by hurricanes and tornadoes. Some of these visits have not gone well; he was widely criticized for tossing paper towels to survivors of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Campaigning last year, he also lied about how Democrats deliberately failed to help Republican areas in North Carolina, inflaming political rhetoric.

Moreover, Trump has incorrectly blamed California’s water shortages on conservation policies designed to protect fish in northern parts of the state, which he claimed left hydrants dry in Los Angeles. Disaster management experts emphasize the need for cooperation among all states in the provision of relief during crises.

She further added, “To the firefighters, first responders, and volunteers risking everything–you are true heroes.”

Priyanka also highlighted the numerous fundraising efforts, saying, “Over the past week, I’ve come across countless GoFundMe pages and organizations working tirelessly to provide relief. If you’re able, please consider donating to those who have lost everything or supporting organizations like @cafirefound, @baby2baby, @americanredcross and so many more making a difference on the ground. Every contribution, no matter the size, truly helps. I’ll keep adding pages as I come across them. Link in my bio for more details.”

The wildfires have ravaged large portions of the LA area, igniting in Pacific Palisades and spreading to Malibu and Santa Monica, with the Eaton Fire severely affecting the Altadena-Pasadena area.

In the aftermath, LA County remains under a “particularly dangerous situation” red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service. While one fire, the Hurst Fire, is nearly contained, a new wildfire, the Auto Fire, broke out overnight in Ventura, burning more than 50 acres, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Inmates Battle LA Wildfires for $1 an Hour, Risking Lives on the Frontlines

January 14, 2025, 11:47 am

In California, nearly 400 prison inmates are part of the 14,000 emergency responders battling destructive wildfires in Los Angeles. These wildfires have already destroyed over 2,000 buildings and claimed at least seven lives. Inmates now make up about 30% of the state’s firefighting force, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

“Wildfires are a constant and formidable challenge for California, and CDCR conservation fire camps remain dedicated to supporting the state’s response,” said Jeff Macomber, Secretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He added, “The work of our incarcerated firefighters and staff is an essential part of this effort, and their commitment to protecting lives and property during these emergencies cannot be overstated.”

California has been using inmates for firefighting duties since 1915, and since 1946, it has run fire camps to train them. Participation in the program is voluntary, with inmates needing to meet specific criteria like a clean behavioral record and no more than eight years remaining on their sentence. Those with certain offenses, such as sex crimes or arson, are excluded.

Despite the essential role of inmate firefighters, the program faces criticism for being exploitative, with opponents labeling it akin to slavery. According to the U.S. Constitution’s 13th Amendment, inmates can be forced to work as a form of punishment for their crime. Inmates in the program are paid about $27 for a 24-hour shift and are provided with food.

These inmate firefighters train at Conservation Camps, which are minimum-security prisons doubling as firefighter schools. While the program has provided essential manpower, some former inmates face challenges finding work in the firefighting industry post-release, though California has implemented programs to assist them.

California is one of 14 states that employ inmate firefighters. Currently, 395 imprisoned firefighters are fighting the Palisades Fire, which has burned 23,700 acres and is only 13% contained. As of Monday, the Lidia, Woodley, and Sunset fires were fully contained, while others like the Hurst Fire are nearly contained.

A red flag warning remains in effect, signaling the potential for more fires. Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley referred to the current wildfire situation as one of the city’s most destructive natural disasters.

Gavin Newsom Accuses Elon Musk of Spreading Lies About LA Fires

January 13, 2025, 11:04 pm

California Governor Gavin Newsom has publicly accused Elon Musk of spreading misinformation regarding water shortages during Los Angeles’ deadly wildfires. Newsom shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), featuring a firefighter refuting Musk’s claims about water availability during the crisis.

Musk recently blamed “bad governance” for a supposed water shortage on X, but Newsom’s shared clip challenges that narrative.

Exactly. Climate change risk is real, just much slower than alarmists claim.

The immense loss of homes in LA is primarily due to:

1. Nonsensical overregulation that prevented creating fire breaks and doing brush clearing.

2. Bad governance at the state and local level that… https://t.co/KByGVCjQ8N

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 9, 2025

Firefighters Contradict Musk’s Statements

In the video, Elon Musk is seen speaking with a firefighter, asking whether water availability was an issue during the fires. The firefighter clarified, “There was plenty of water, but tackling such large fires requires huge flow rates. That’s why mobile hydrants were brought in.”

When Musk questioned water availability in Malibu and the Pacific Palisades, the firefighter explained that the system struggled due to the immense volume of water required to combat the blaze.

Newsom captioned the video, “@ElonMusk exposed by firefighters for his own lies.”

Musk’s Visit and Cybertruck Donation

Amid the devastation, Elon Musk visited the Pacific Palisades on January 12, donating Cybertrucks equipped with Starlink to serve as power hubs and internet providers for affected areas.

Despite his efforts, Musk’s statements about water shortages have drawn criticism from Newsom and others, who argue that the focus should remain on addressing the fires rather than assigning blame.

Newsom Faces Criticism Amid Tragedy

While calling out Musk, Newsom himself has faced backlash over his handling of the wildfire crisis. President-elect Donald Trump took to Truth Social, calling for Newsom’s resignation. Trump stated, “One of the most beautiful parts of the U.S. is burning down. It’s ashes, and Gavin Newscum should resign. This is all his fault!”

Newsom has reported deploying over 7,500 firefighting personnel to work alongside local and federal partners to control the fires. However, the death toll has climbed to 24, with 16 fatalities from the Eaton Fire and 8 from the Palisades Fire.

As wildfires continue to ravage California, the focus remains on extinguishing the blazes, supporting affected communities, and addressing the broader issues of climate change and disaster preparedness.

Is It a UFO or Just a Drone? Viral Video from LA Wildfires Stuns Viewers

January 13, 2025, 5:59 pm

The start of 2025 has seen massive disasters in the form of earthquakes and wildfires ravage California to its very foundation. Certain parts of the state have been turned into grey zones filled with ash, due to the incessant fires; the sky has turned orange, and the ground, yellow. At least 24 have so far died as thousands flee before raging California wildfires.

Among other calamities accompanying this disaster was a video appearing on the scene. This mysterious object flies, then seems to disappear from out of nowhere just off Los Angeles’ raging wildfires, speculations ran that perhaps here is evidence for the sighting of a UFO.Netizens dismissed the idea of it being an aircraft or drone, given its speed and movement.

The clip was shared on Reddit by the handle ‘frankievalentino’ and quickly gained over 1K upvotes.
Reactions to the video were mixed: people thought it looked intriguing and hilarious at the same time, as one called it an alien ship while another called it a drone.

“Why the f**k are they flying all around and are on network tv and it’s not questioned?” asked one.
Another user said, “The crazy thing about that is it’s skipping like a stone, which has been mentioned in UFOs reports by pilots and other witnesses.” “Sure doesn’t look like a civilian drone or aeroplane, nor Venus or solar flares,” commented a third.

“Are they going to help or what?” a fourth asked, while another user joked on live broadcast, suggesting the object could help quench the fires.

LA Wildfires: Trump Slams California Politicians as ‘Incompetent’

January 12, 2025, 6:29 pm

On Sunday, January 12, United States President-elect Donald Trump criticized California politicians for their handling of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed his frustration, saying, “The fires are still raging in LA. The incompetent pols (politicians) have no idea how to put them out. Thousands of magnificent houses are gone, and many more will soon be lost.”

He continued, “There is death all over the place. This is one of the worst catastrophes in the history of our Country. They just can’t put out the fires. What’s wrong with them?”

Death toll reaches 16

Trump’s comments came as the death toll from the wildfires rose to 16. Emergency crews worked tirelessly to contain the spreading flames, racing against the clock before strong winds were expected to return, potentially pushing the fires toward some of Los Angeles’ most iconic landmarks.

According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, five deaths were linked to the Palisades Fire, while 11 fatalities were attributed to the Eaton Fire, as stated in a report released on Saturday evening. There were growing concerns that the fires could be driven toward the J. Paul Getty Museum and the University of California, Los Angeles. Meanwhile, new evacuation warnings left many homeowners increasingly anxious, as reported by the Associated Press.

California Governor Gavin Newsom on the wildfires

California Governor Gavin Newsom deflected responsibility when asked about the public anger over his administration’s handling of the wildfires, stating that he was not receiving clear answers.

In a recent podcast, Governor Newsom explained that local leaders and his team failed to provide him with a straightforward picture of the situation. “So, I’m the governor of California and wanna know the answer. I’ve got that question, I can’t tell you, by how many people, ‘What happened?’ – on my own team, ‘What happened?’… I’ll be candid with you, I wasn’t getting straight answers,” Newsom said.

Kim Kardashian Criticizes $1/Hour Firefighter Pay During LA Wildfires

January 12, 2025, 1:10 pm

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian was recently roasted for promoting SKIMS’ winter sale during raging Los Angeles wildfires. In turn, she quickly diverted attention to focus on low pay of firemen who were confined in the jails and fought the fires.

On Sunday, Kim posted the following message in her Instagram stories: “I have spent the last week watching my city burning.”. And I have seen and spoken to many firefighters who are up all night long using every ounce of their strength to save our community. Of all the 5 fires in Los Angeles, there are hundreds of incarcerated firefighters risking their lives to save us. They are working on the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire in Pasadena with 24-hour shifts.

She continued, “They get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, some have died, to prove to the community that they have changed and are now first responders. I see them as heroes. The incarcerated firefighters have been paid $1/hour to risk their lives, and this pay has been the same since 1984. It has never been raised with inflation.”. It’s never been brought up when the fires worsened and people perished. There was a proposed raise for incarcerated firefighters this year to $5/hour but was struck down last minute, however.

Kim Wants Things Different

Kim also tagged California Governor Gavin Newsom in her post, urging him to revise the pay to better honor the firefighters’ sacrifices. Her advocacy has brought renewed attention to the issue of fair compensation for incarcerated individuals risking their lives in emergency situations.

Earlier, Kim shared an Instagram Story from her beauty brand, SKKN, which expressed solidarity with those affected by the wildfires. The brand said it would be donating a major amount to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and clothing, socks, and underwear to the non-profit for children and families in need.

As for work, Kim will be returning in season 6 of ‘The Kardashians’.

Ongoing Los Angeles Wildfire Updates

The Los Angeles County wildfires have been catastrophic, with six active fires since Tuesday that have taken at least 11 lives and destroyed or damaged 10,000 structures. Fire officials believe that these numbers will continue to grow as they enter more burned areas.

The Palisades Fire, which had been stabilizing, flared up Friday night, forcing new evacuation orders for Brentwood and parts of the San Fernando Valley foothills. Earlier in the day, progress had been reported, with the Palisades Fire 8% contained and the Eaton Fire 3% contained after efforts from hundreds of firefighters working on the ground and from the air. However, until Friday, both fires were listed as 0% contained by Cal Fire.

Together, the two fires have burned 35,000 acres, an area roughly 2.5 times the size of Manhattan. More than 153,000 people are still under evacuation orders, and another 166,800 are under warnings. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna imposed a curfew across evacuation zones after a public health emergency was declared because of worsening air quality and the displacement of thousands.
