Cat Presumed Dead in LA Wildfire Reunites with Owner After 2 Months | WATCH

March 15, 2025, 5:35 pm

A California Maine Coon cat, Aggie, has shocked everyone by being rescued alive from the destructive Palisades wildfire in Los Angeles after her family’s house was burnt to the ground. She had been missing for two months, and it was assumed that she had died. Her owner, 82-year-old Katherine Kiefer, never lost hope.

At the weekend, Kiefer got a surprise call from the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter, and Aggie was miraculously back. The touching moment soon went viral after the emotional moment was captured in a TikTok clip posted by Kiefer’s daughter, Carolyn. Katherine exclaimed, “I was so worried that I was going to wake up and (find) it was a dream,” thrilled.

Watch this:

When Katherine Kiefer, 82, lost her home to the Palisades Fire on Jan. 7, she feared she had also lost her beloved cat, Aggie. But two months later, Aggie was found alive in the fire’s ruins. Here’s the moment Kiefer and Aggie reunited. pic.twitter.com/Nlm03rj7xg

— The Associated Press (@AP) March 11, 2025

Aggie had been lost in the fire when Kiefer was at a doctor’s appointment. Despite frantic searching by her children, the hidey-cat was nowhere to be found. Carolyn remembered, “The one thing my mum asked was: ‘Did you get Aggie?'” demonstrating the mother’s close relationship with the pet.

The Palisades fire, which destroyed the area in January, had left many pets separated from their owners, but against all odds, Aggie survived. The five-year-old feline was a present to Katherine during the COVID-19 pandemic, and her return has brought joy to many.

On being found, Aggie was extremely malnourished and starved for attention. Carolyn described, “She was basically skin and bones, and in a total state of starvation.”She has since received multiple blood transfusions and is now being treated medically by experts. The tale of the cat has attracted huge numbers of support on the internet, with a GoFundMe webpage raising more than $21,000 to fund her vet work.

Katherine looks forward to Aggie’s return home, scheduled for Thursday when she is discharged from the hospital. Her advice to fellow pet owners is simple: “Don’t underestimate cats.”

Donald Trump Seen Golfing Near Myrtle Beach Amid Carolina Wildfire Crisis

March 3, 2025, 4:57 pm

US President Donald Trump was seen playing golf at his Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday as wildfires raged across North and South Carolina, prompting evacuations and emergency declarations, the Irish Star said.

Donald Trump Criticized Amid Wildfire Crisis

The report also brought to light the fact that the Donald Trump administration once held up wildfire prevention project funds started under his Democratic predecessor. This action could have stalled the efforts to forestall and control the catastrophic wildfires now raging in the Carolinas.

CNN says the Carolina Forest fire, roughly five miles north of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, already has burned nearly 1,600 acres and was 30% contained on Sunday, according to the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

Emergency Response and Evacuations

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Sunday to aid wildfire response efforts. A statewide burn ban remains in effect, with fire crews working tirelessly to contain the blaze near Myrtle Beach. Several neighborhoods have been evacuated, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

The state-wide burn ban was instituted on Saturday in South Carolina following several wildfires. While numerous others have been contained since then, authorities say that the threat of fire remains elevated throughout the area, including along Wilmington, North Carolina, as well as Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. The National Weather Service remains vigilant.

Wildfires in North and South Carolina

As of Sunday afternoon, the South Carolina Forestry Commission approximated that the wildfire had swept through about 1.9 square miles (4.9 sq km) with no total containment. Yet, the Associated Press quoted officials confirming that no buildings had been damaged, and there were no reported injuries.

County fire officials said that about 410 personnel had been sent to fight the fire. Those crews will stay on the scene until the fire is completely contained. Officials have advised Carolina Forest residents to remain ready with emergency supplies and evacuation routes if additional orders are given.

At the same time, in North Carolina, the US Forest Service indicated several fires raging over more than 400 acres (161.87 hectares) in four forests throughout the state. The biggest fire of about 300 acres (121.41 hectares) is located in Uwharrie National Forest, around 50 miles (80.47 km) east of Charlotte.

LA Wildfire: Leonardo DiCaprio Donates USD 1 Million for Relief Efforts

January 16, 2025, 3:17 pm

Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged USD 1 million to support ongoing wildfire relief and recovery efforts in Los Angeles County. The actor announced his donation on social media, expressing deep concern over the devastating impact of the wildfires in the region.

In an Instagram story, DiCaprio shared his commitment, writing, “The Los Angeles wildfires are devastating our city. I am committing USD 1 million in partnership with @rewild’s Rapid Response Program to support both urgent needs and post-fire recovery efforts.”

The funds will be directed to several organizations actively working on the ground, including the LA Fire Department Foundation, the California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, the California Community Foundation, the Pasadena Humane Society, and the SoCal Fire Fund. These groups focus on providing critical resources to first responders, firefighters, and affected communities, according to Deadline.

DiCaprio’s contribution aligns with a broader wave of celebrity donations addressing the crisis. Among those stepping up are Beyonce, who has donated USD 2.5 million to victims of the Eaton Fire, and Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Guest, and Eva Longoria, who have each pledged USD 1 million. Paris Hilton raised USD 800,000 for wildfire relief within just 72 hours, Deadline reported.

Corporate contributions have also been significant. Tech giants Google and YouTube have reportedly announced a combined donation of USD 15 million, while Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, pledged USD 4 million.

Federal Backing Increases for California Wildfire Relief

Meanwhile, California secured federal funds in addition to undertake reconstruction of public infrastructure scarred by the wildfires. The FEMA grant will help pay for the removal of debris and the repair of roads, bridges, and public utilities. It will also fund the restoration of other damaged public works projects, according to the governor’s office.

The Palisades Fire alone has left widespread destruction, with inspection teams reporting only 30% progress in assessing the damage. No definitive timelines for reopening affected areas have been set, said Commander Christine Coles of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department during a news conference.

Weather Conditions Worsen Wildfire Threats

The National Weather Service has issued a warning of intensifying winds across Southern California. These winds are expected to worsen the already dangerous wildfire conditions. Forecasted gusts, peaking between 3 am and 3 pm, are expected to fuel the fires further. The ongoing wildfires have already claimed at least 25 lives, with 24 others reported missing, according to Voice of America.

LA Wildfires Threatened By Santa Ana Winds, Fears Grow Of Renewed Destruction

January 14, 2025, 11:21 pm

Los Angeles firefighters are put on high alert as dry, intense winds fan two massive wildfires that have killed at least 24 people and laid waste to much of the region. The National Weather Service said gusts of Santa Ana winds of 50 to 70 mph Tuesday and Wednesday threatened to fuel a volatile situation already.

According to the weather service, the red flag warning issued depicted the conditions as a “particularly dangerous situation,” raising fears of new fires erupting and already existing ones flaring up. Los Angeles City Fire Chief Kristin Crowley warned residents that the worst is far from over, and they should continue to be watchful despite the positive developments in terms of controlling the flames over the last few days.

With the winds picking up, more than 8,500 firefighters have been deployed to battle the fires from both the air and on the ground. State authorities have also pre-positioned firefighting crews in Southern California counties facing heightened fire risks. The Palisades and Eaton fires, which ignited during last week’s powerful winds, continue to burn on the city’s western and eastern edges.

The fires have already ravaged whole neighbourhoods, and the death toll is expected to rise as rescue teams conduct house-to-house searches in the charred ruins. For John Adolph, a resident of Altadena who lost his home in the Eaton fire, the scenes were terrifying: “walls of flames two stories tall” and “tornadoes of flame.” He and his family are now staying with friends after their home was reduced to ashes.

As Southern California experiences these extreme conditions, authorities remain focused on preventing further devastation and loss of life.

LA Wildfires Shifts Direction, Trigger New Evacuations As Firefighters Battle Blazes

January 11, 2025, 8:44 pm

The biggest wildfire razing Los Angeles this week changed direction Saturday, forcing new evacuations and further complicating matters for weary firefighters.

Six fires have burned in Los Angeles County since Tuesday, killing at least 11 and destroying or damaging 10,000 structures. The death toll is expected to rise as fire crews make their way house by house.

While the intense Santa Ana winds driving the fires diminished Friday night, the Palisades Fire-sweeping in off the western flank of the city-veered course, endangering Brentwood and foothill areas of the San Fernando Valley. A flare-up was reported in the east flank of the fire, according to Los Angeles Times.

Dubbed the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history, the Palisades Fire has reduced entire neighbourhoods to ashes, leaving behind only the smouldering remnants of homes and belongings.

Before the latest flare-up, firefighters had managed to contain parts of the Palisades and Eaton Fires. Containment stood at 8% for the Palisades Fire and 3% for the Eaton Fire by Friday night, Cal Fire reported. Combined, the two fires have burned 35,000 acres, equivalent to 54 square miles, or two and a half times the size of Manhattan.

Now, 153,000 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders; another 166,800 receive warnings. There is a curfew for all evacuation areas, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna.

Seven border states, the federal government, and Canada are pitching in resources from aerial water drops to ground crews to assist California.

Improving conditions are forecast for the weekend by the National Weather Service, with winds expected to drop to 20 mph. Critical fire weather conditions remain in place with low humidity and dry fuels, though Cal Fire said it may be getting strong winds again Tuesday.

Public health officials have declared a health emergency due to the thick, toxic smoke permeating the region.

‘Miracle’: How This Malibu Mansion Survived The LA Wildfires?

January 11, 2025, 6:08 pm

A Malibu property worth more than $9 million happened to stay intact from the ferocious wildfires ravaging Los Angeles. An incredulous David Steiner, a retired waste management executive and father of three, stated to the New York Post, “It’s a miracle—miracles never cease.” Steiner thought that his three-story California home would be a total loss when he received video footage shot by a local contractor who was capturing smoke and flames engulfing his home and neighboring homes. But before even a few of them knew why, the truth spread quickly- his house has been saved many contacted him: “Your house is all around the news.”

How the House Survived

According to Steiner, the survival of his 4,200-square-foot, four-bedroom mansion is credited to its robust design and fire-resistant materials. The house features a fireproof roof, stucco and stone walls, and pilings sunk 50 feet into bedrock to endure the powerful surf below. Steiner explained, “It’s stucco and stone with a fireproof roof,” adding that the pilings were designed to provide stability during earthquakes.

Reflecting on the home’s resilience, Steiner said, “I thought, if we ever have an earthquake, this would be the last thing to go. I honestly didn’t think that if we had a fire, this would be the last thing to go. The architecture is pretty nice.”

During the ordeal, Steiner received the outpouring of friends and acquaintances. Most of them exclaimed their lamentation, thinking that his house was totally destroyed, and only afterwards joined him in his amazement at the house’s survival.

Biden Slams Misinformation, Calls LA Wildfires A ‘War Scene,’ Warns Of Looting Amid Chaos

January 11, 2025, 1:34 am

US President Joe Biden likened Los Angeles to a “war scene” on Friday as multiple wildfires ravaged neighbourhoods, prompting concerns about looting and misinformation. Speaking from the Oval Office, Biden pointed out the seriousness of the situation, highlighting “clear evidence” of looting amid the destruction.

The President likened it to a battlefield, saying, “It reminded me of more of a war scene, where you had certain targets that were bombarded.” He attacked “demagogues” for spreading false information about the fires, which some took as an indirect way of taking jabs at former President Donald Trump for amplifying such falsehoods.

In response to the crisis, a curfew at night has been implemented in the affected areas, such as the Palisades and Eaton fire zones. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna announced the curfew from 6 pm to 6 am, stating that violators would be arrested. “We are not screwing around with this,” Luna declared, stressing the need to protect evacuated properties from looters.

Meanwhile, Assistant Los Angeles Police Chief Dominic Choi reported an arrest related to an attempted arson in Woodland Hills. But there was not enough evidence to charge the suspect with the crime. The investigation continues.

The largest of five active wildfires, the Palisades fire, is only 8% contained as firefighters made overnight progress with favourable weather. However, rising wind gusts could challenge containment efforts. The Eaton fire, north of Pasadena, has burned nearly 14,000 acres and is just 3% contained, threatening thousands of structures.

Other fires are: Hurst fire: This fire burns 771 acres and is 37% contained. The Kenneth fire near San Fernando Valley is at 35%. The Lidia fire is the most controlled with 75% containment.

As the fires continue, evacuation orders have been lifted for some areas, reducing the number of residents under mandatory evacuation to 153,000. However, approximately 57,830 structures remain at risk, with another 166,800 residents still under evacuation warnings. Authorities remain vigilant as they battle the blazes and address the ongoing threat of looting.

Jamie Lee Curtis Donates $1 Million To Los Angeles Wildfire Relief

January 10, 2025, 1:18 pm

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, visibly moved by the raging wildfires that are devouring Los Angeles, announced on Thursday that she and her family would donate $1 million to relief efforts. Curtis, with her husband, actor-director Christopher Guest, and their children, promised the amount to help those suffering from the devastation caused by the fires. She mentioned that she was communicating with officials to ensure the available funds reaches the areas that need it the most. In her Instagram post, Curtis shared a photo of smoke billowing above the iconic Santa Monica Pier, symbolizing the destruction in her community.

In a tearful appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Curtis described the heartbreaking impact of the fire on her own neighbourhood. “Where I live is on fire right now, literally the entire city of Pacific Palisades is on fire,” she revealed. She expressed her sorrow for the loss of local businesses, schools, and, most painfully, the homes of many of her friends. “It’s just a catastrophe,” Curtis said, clearly devastated by the widespread destruction.

The toll of the wild fires has affected other Hollywood personalities as well; Billy Crystal and James Woods declared that their residences were burnt out, while others like Paris Hilton, along with Mandy Moore, also witnessed the destruction in their homes. The fires rage on; for instance, until Thursday, they were still ablaze in parts of the Pacific Palisades. Meanwhile, CORE, started by actor Sean Penn, commenced handing out face masks among other relief stuff to people, who were really struggling with unhealthy air quality.

Hacks star actress Jean Smart took to social media and recommended that TV networks consider cancelling or holding off on such events going forward, adding that revenue generated from such broadcasts must be donated to wildfire victims and first responders. “With all due respect during Hollywood’s season of celebration,” Smart wrote on Instagram, “I hope any of the networks televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and firefighters.” Several award events, including the Critics Choice Awards and Oscar nominations, have been delayed due to the ongoing crisis.

Nora Fatehi Forced To Evacuate Amid Devastating LA Wildfires

January 9, 2025, 5:43 pm

Recently, Nora Fatehi was caught in the midst of the devastating wildfires raging in Los Angeles, forcing her to evacuate her residence on very short notice. “It’s crazy, insane,” she said of the situation as she shared her fear and concern on Instagram Stories, explaining that she received an evacuation order just moments before. She quickly packed her belongings and decided to head toward the airport, hoping to catch her flight despite the chaos surrounding her. In her post, Nora emphasized her hope that the flight wouldn’t be cancelled and expressed her wish for the safety of everyone in LA.

Priyanka Chopra, also based in Los Angeles, shared a video of the flames engulfing hills near her mansion. In her post, she sent her thoughts to everyone affected by the wildfires and thanked the rescue workers and fire departments for their efforts in battling the blaze.

The wildfires have caused widespread devastation, destroying over 1,000 structures and forcing more than 130,000 residents to evacuate. Several major fires are raging and not yet controlled; firefighters from adjacent states are trying to subdue the infernos. Among these, one in Pacific Palisades is reportedly the most devastating, having already scorched over 15,000 acres and remains mostly uncontrolled. This tony neighborhood houses a number of Hollywood stars, whose property has been damaged by the wildfire.

The fires have affected a number of well-known figures; many celebrities were forced to leave their homes, and some have lost them entirely. Actors like Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, and James Woods were among the evacuees. According to reports, Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, and Anthony Hopkins have lost their homes. Furthermore, homes of other celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Keaton, and Tom Hanks are also at risk, while Ben Affleck is said to have left his $20 million home in search of a safe haven with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner as the flames approached.

The wildfire impact goes even further up to Hollywood because the wildfires prevented big events in town and massive productions. They rescheduled their Critics’ Choice Awards, stopped shooting Grey’s Anatomy and other productions, Abbott Elementary among them, due to the current calamity.

Grey’s Anatomy Halts Production As Los Angeles Wildfires Escalate

January 9, 2025, 4:01 pm

The Los Angeles wildfires have resulted in the temporary shutdown of filming for several TV series, including the popular hospital-based drama Grey’s Anatomy. Produced by 20th Television, program stopped filming because the danger associated with the fires is starting to close in on its places of filming. As the fires continue to rage across the area, safety of all those working on the shoot has become a priority, making it unsafe to continue filming under these hazardous conditions.

Grey’s Anatomy is just one of the many disrupted shows by this occurrence, which includes others like Doctor Odyssey and Jimmy Kimmel Live, also from 20th Television. The production halt emphasizes the devastating effect of natural disasters on the entertainment sector; what used to be thought as impossible has been proven to be likely with even the longest-running TV series. Given that the fires are approaching Hollywood fast, everyone realized filming could be stopped since it posed too much danger to those behind the cameras.

Despite the setbacks to the current season of Grey’s Anatomy, the well-being of the cast and crew remains the primary concern. The wildfires have shown just how vulnerable the entertainment industry is to the effects of natural disasters, causing widespread production halts. While the industry typically handles disruptions, the scale of this emergency necessitated a pause to ensure safety, leaving many productions on hold until the situation improves.

Billy Crystal and his wife Janice lost their 45-year property to the Palisades Fire, while Mandy Moore, Cary Elwes, and Paris Hilton acknowledged losing their homes.

Extent of the LA Wildfires

The wildfires burning through Los Angeles have destroyed over 1,000 structures mostly home to hundreds of thousands. More than 130,000 residents have been told to evacuate with fires raging unchecked in four uncontrolled blazes. Firefighting forces are coming from the surrounding states.

Spanning approximately 42 square miles, nearly the size of San Francisco, the fires have devoured everything in their path, leaving devastation and uncertainty in their wake. Authorities and residents alike brace for further destruction as the fires show no signs of slowing down.

Oscars Voting Deadline Extended Amid Los Angeles Wildfires

January 9, 2025, 12:49 pm

In light of the horrific wildfires in Los Angeles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has modified the schedule for voting on Oscar nominations. Voting for the Academy’s almost 10,000 members, which started on January 8 and was originally set to expire on January 12, has been extended until January 14. The nominations announcement has also been rescheduled for January 19. An email from CEO Bill Kramer, sent on January 8, communicated these changes to members.

The email said, “We stand in solidarity with the victims of these devastating fires and extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by these catastrophic fires. Many of our members and colleagues are based in the Los Angeles area, so you are in our thoughts. In other schedule changes, the International Feature Shortlist Screening has been postponed, as have the Los Angeles and New York Sound Branch and Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Bake-Offs originally planned for January 11.”

The ongoing flames in Los Angeles have caused extensive damage; some residents lost their houses to the fires, and five people have died. The Los Angeles Fire Department reports that a new fire, known as the Sunset Fire, started in the Hollywood Hills and has now grown to 20 acres between Runyon Canyon and Wattles Park.

Famous sites like the Hollywood sign and the Dolby Theatre, the site of the yearly Oscars ceremony, are in danger due to this fire. The 2025 Oscars, hosted by Conan O’Brien, are scheduled for March 2 despite these issues.
