</excerpt>

Stand-up comic Kunal Kamra said he was contacted to appear in the next season of the reality television series Bigg Boss, but he immediately declined the invitation with a caustic comment. The program, presented by Bollywood actor Salman Khan, is renowned for its telenovela and frequently rancorous style.

Kamra Posts Screenshot of Casting Message

Taking to Instagram Stories, Kamra posted a screenshot of his chat with a casting director who claimed to be handling casting for the new season. The message read:
“I am handling the casting for this season of Bigg Boss and your name came up as someone they might find interesting. I know it might not have been on your radar, but honestly, it’s such a mad platform to show your real vibe and win over a massive audience. What do you think? Should we talk about it?”

Kamra’s plain-cut reply to the proposal said: “I would much rather check into a mental hospital…” He paired the anecdote with a song in Salman Khan’s film Radhe. It isn’t clear whether Kamra was asked for Bigg Boss OTT or Season 19 of the main series.

Current Row Surrounding Kunal Kamra

The comedian is now involved in a court case after making remarks he made during a stand-up show in Mumbai regarding Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The comments resulted in a police FIR on charges of defamation and public mischief. After this, Kamra alleged that he received close to 500 death threats, which forced him to flee Mumbai and take refuge in Tamil Nadu.

He has also gone to the Madras High Court since then, which extended to him interim protection against arrest by the Mumbai Police.

Controversy with BookMyShow

Earlier this week, Kamra also accused ticketing platform BookMyShow of trying to delist his shows without clarity. He issued a public statement calling on the platform to give him correct updates. BookMyShow responded by releasing a statement where they said that “facts have been misrepresented” in defense of their actions.

In spite of the controversies, Kamra still keeps himself active on social media, employing humor and satire to tackle the problems he encounters.

BookMyShow Answers Kunal Kamra’s Callout

<excerpt>After Kunal Kamra questioned BookMyShow over delisting claims, the ticketing platform clarified it doesn’t restrict any artist.
</excerpt>

Days following stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s accusation that BookMyShow had delisted him from its ticketing portal, the digital platform has sent a formal rebuttal, negating any involvement in censoring artists. The firm claimed it practices platform neutrality and adheres to India’s relevant laws, leaving the burden of listings with show organisers and venues.

BookMyShow Breaks Silence After Kamra’s Open Letter

Kamra took to X (formerly Twitter) with an open letter to BookMyShow, questioning whether he had been removed from the platform due to political pressure following his “gaddar” remark aimed at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

In his post, Kamra wrote, “With that in mind, I request one of the following: Do not delist me, or Provide me with the data (contact information) I’ve generated through your platform from my audience. Thank you for your understanding.”

Dear @bookmyshow – I still don’t know if I have your platform or no.
Below is humble view –
To the audiences I’m not a fan of boycotts or down rating a private business…
Book my show is well within their right to do what’s best for their business | pic.twitter.com/TXaB22sfxI

— Kunal Kamra (@kunalkamra88) April 7, 2025

BookMyShow Denies Censorship Allegations

In its official response, BookMyShow stated, “It is a platform to facilitate the sale of tickets and operates the business with neutrality and in compliance with the applicable laws of India. Facts on our role have been misrepresented in the public domain. Our role is to provide a platform for ticket sales of live shows and it is the decision of the organiser or the venue to list or delist their shows.”

⚠️ Official Statement pic.twitter.com/iXVSRmBISt

— BookMyShow (@bookmyshow) April 7, 2025

The company clarified that it does not censor any artist and only serves as a go-between for organisers and audiences.

Delisting Followed Political Pressure

The row broke out after reports surfaced that BookMyShow delisted Kamra’s shows a day after Rahool Kanal, a youth leader of the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, publicly called on the platform to desist from hosting Kamra’s content. Kanal thanked BookMyShow on social media, posting:
“Thank you for keeping your portal clean and keeping such artists out of the list of pure entertainment, because we all being Mumbaikars love and believe in every form of art but not personal agendas.”

Backlash Linked to Controversial Stand-Up Show

Kamal’s event, conducted at Mumbai Habitat Centre in Khar, had already garnered attention in the past because of its political flavor. Rahool Kanal was one of the 12 Shiv Sena politicians who were arrested for damaging the event venue after the event, further inflating tensions.

While Kamra continues to ask for transparency, the statement by BookMyShow has put the responsibility for the delisting on event organisers rather than on the platform itself.

Shiv Sena filed multiple complaints, also urging a probe into Kamra’s alleged foreign funding for his content. Kamra later issued an apology to his audience after they reportedly received police notices.
</excerpt>

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra did not show up before the Mumbai Police on Saturday for questioning in a case registered against him over an alleged ‘traitor’ comment against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This is the third time Kamra has not heeded the police summons, as per a PTI report citing an official.

The Khar police had issued the summons, requesting Kamra to report on April 5. Earlier, a police team had even gone to his Mahim house after he defied the second notice. The case was registered on a complaint filed by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, who accused Kamra of having made disparaging remarks about Shinde in a comedy show.

Kamra had uploaded a satirical video against Shinde in the backdrop of Shiv Sena party split. Shiv Sena followers allegedly vandalised the studio and the hotel where the video was shot on March 23 night after the release of the video.

EOW Complaint Over Foreign Funding

In another development, the Shiv Sena has also called for an inquiry into funding behind Kamra’s material. On April 3, a complaint was lodged with the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) calling for a probe into banking transactions suspected of being related to Kamra’s videos.

Citing an ANI report, the EOW confirmed that the complaint calls for an investigation into the money Kamra has possibly received from foreign sources, particularly in the wake of his recent video, Naya Bharat, critical of Deputy CM Shinde.

Three separate FIRs have so far been registered against Kamra at the Khar Police Station. One has been registered by the Mayor of Jalgaon, while two others have been lodged by a businessman and a hotelier who is Nashik-based.

Kamra Apologizes to Audience

With reports coming in that certain audience members attending his performances had received police notices for questioning, Kamra made a public apology on social media.

“I apologize immensely for the trouble caused to you by going to watch my show. Please send me an email so that I may plan your next holiday to wherever you’d like in India,” he told them.

‘Traitor’ Joke Row: BookMyShow Takes Down All Kunal Kamra Content

<excerpt>BookMyShow took down all of Kunal Kamra’s content after a letter from Yuva Shiv Sena leader Rahool Kanal. Kamra is facing legal scrutiny over alleged defamatory remarks against Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. He has missed three police summons regarding the controversy surrounding his satirical video ‘Naya Bharat’.
</excerpt>

Online ticketing website BookMyShow has apparently removed all content associated with stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, including deleting his name from the artiste list on its website, as per a report by India Today.

This follows a letter written to the platform by Yuva Shiv Sena general secretary Rahool N Kanal, who called on the platform to desist from promoting or selling tickets for Kamra’s future performances in light of concerns raised by the comedian’s previous comments.

What did Kanal say?

In his April 2 letter, Kanal said he was concerned about the effect of Kamra’s material, adding, “I, Rahool N Kanal, am writing this letter in my personal capacity as a concerned citizen to draw your attention to a matter of public interest regarding the operations of BookMyShow.”

He added, “I have been apprised of the fact that BookMyShow has in the past arranged sale of tickets to shows with Mr Kunal Kamra, an individual with a known track record of habitual insulting behavior.”

Kanal also targeted Kamra for allegedly making targeting key leaders like the Prime Minister, deputy chief ministers, and other important public figures, referring to it as part of a “campaign of vilification.

Aftermath of Complaint Filed by Shiv Sena Leader

Simultaneously, Kamra is facing increasing legal issues. A complaint was lodged by a Shiv Sena representative with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police on April 3, asking for an investigation into Kamra’s money transactions through his content. According to the complaint, Kamra has been receiving money from foreign nations through his videos online and there have been raised questions regarding the origin of his money.

In a separate move, the Mumbai Police served a third notice to Kamra, asking him to appear for questioning on April 5 over his video “Naya Bharat,” in which he had made sarcastic remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Khar police had previously booked Kamra on a complaint lodged by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, who alleged that the video was defamatory.

Kamra has not turned up before the police despite repeated calls. He skipped questioning for the third time on Saturday, officials said.

Hostilities intensified after Kamra’s video ridiculing Shinde and the political divide within Shiv Sena. On March 23 night, party workers allegedly damaged the studio and the hotel where Kamra had made the video.

</excerpt>

The Madras High Court on Friday granted interim anticipatory bail to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who is facing legal action for his remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Kamra Moves High Court, Cites Fear of Arrest

Kamra, 36, informed the court that he had moved from Mumbai to Tamil Nadu in 2021 and had been residing in the state since then. He expressed concern over potential arrest by the Mumbai Police in connection with the case, PTI reported.

Summoned Twice, Kamra’s Remarks Spark Controversy

The controversy erupted after Kamra performed a parody song mocking Shinde at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar. His act triggered a backlash from Shiv Sena supporters, who vandalized the venue and the hotel where the event was hosted.

Following a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, the Khar police registered a case against Kamra for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the deputy CM.

Mumbai Police Issues Summons, Seeks Kamra’s Presence on March 31

On Thursday, the Mumbai Police summoned Kamra, asking him to appear before them on March 31.

“In the second summons issued to him, Kunal Kamra has been asked to appear before police on March 31,” a police official told PTI.

Meanwhile, police arrested 12 Shiv Sena workers, including leader Rahool Kanal, for vandalizing the comedy venue and the hotel where Kamra performed.

Kamra’s Response to Media Coverage

Reacting to the media coverage surrounding the controversy, Kamra posted on X, stating:

“The mainstream media at this point is nothing but a miscommunication arm of the ruling party. They are vultures who report on issues that don’t matter to the people of this country. If they all shut shop from tomorrow till eternity, they will be doing a favor to the country, its people & their own children.”

</excerpt>

Comedian Kunal Kamra, who was already in the middle of a controversy for his mockery of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has gone viral again—this time for his satirical response to industrialist Anand Mahindra.

In a widely shared clip, Kamra made light of Mahindra’s incessant social media posts, commenting, “Anand Mahindra bhi buddha hai (Anand Mahindra is also old). He tweets about everything – thermodynamics, marine biology, radioactivity – except how to make his cars better.”

Kunal Kamra also mocked Mahindra’s participation in AI conferences, joking that sarcastic invitations were misinterpreted as real interest.

Kunal Kamra Mocks Mahindra’s Optimism Amid Crisis

Kamra also mocked Mahindra’s upbeat attitude during crises. He remembered a past tweet in which Anand Mahindra shared a video of kids playing on a double-decker bus amidst the floods in Mumbai, captioned, “When life gives you lemons.” The comedian mocked the tweet, suggesting that optimism must not hijack serious issues.

Controversy of Kunal Kamra Over Shinde Parody Escalates

Kamra’s recent set at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar aimed at Eknath Shinde sparked major outrage. BJP leader Pravin Darekar filed a breach of privilege notice against Kamra, accusing him of using “personal and insulting references” against the Deputy CM.

A parody song sung by Kamra on January 3 resurfaced months later, prompting violent retribution. Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) supporters vandalized the comedy club and the hotel where the performance took place, sparking a legal battle and public debate over artistic freedom.

Legal Battle Intensifies

In fear of arrest, 36-year-old Kamra has moved the Madras High Court seeking transit anticipatory bail. His lawyer, V Suresh, moved the petition late last night, stating that the allegations brought against Kamra are “frivolous” and intended to “harass and intimidate” Kamra. The petition claims that Kamra was exercising his fundamental right to freedom of speech.

At the same time, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for an apology from Kamra, and opposition leader Uddhav Thackeray has stood up for the comedian’s right to satire. Undeterred by the backlash, Kamra took to Instagram and shared a photo of himself cradling the Indian Constitution on Sunday night, captioned: “The only way forward.”

</excerpt>

Comedian Kunal Kamra has accused Bollywood music company T-Series of flagging his stand-up unique “Naya Bharat” on YouTube for copyright infringement. His performance has created buzz because of its biting political satire, particularly jokes aimed at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

T-Series Flags Kamra’s Parody on YouTube

On Wednesday, Kamra posted a new clip from “Naya Bharat”, where he had parodied the song “Hawa Hawai” from the old Bollywood hit “Mr India”. The parody was meant to take digs at Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the economic policies of the government. The rights to the song are owned by T-Series, which quickly raised a copyright issue.

Kamra went live on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and posted a screenshot of YouTube, where he revealed that his new video had been blocked because of copyright restrictions. This block also denies the video access to generate ad revenue.

Kamra Slams T-Series, Calls It a ‘Stooge’

Blaming T-Series for removing the content, Kunal Kamra stated, “Hello @TSeries, stop being a stooge.
T-Series Defends Copyright Claim

In response to Kamra’s claims, a T-Series spokesperson explained that the comedian had not obtained permission to utilize the musical composition. The release stated, “Mr Kunal Kamra has not taken any authorisation or approval for the usage of the underlying musical work in the song hence the content has been blocked for infringement of composition rights.”

Shiv Sena Members Attack Kamra’s Venue

“Naya Bharat” has already amassed more than 6.7 million views on YouTube, with sharp political commentary on the NCP and Shiv Sena breaks in Maharashtra. But the furor over Kamra’s show turned violent last Sunday night when Shiv Sena workers ransacked the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar where the comedian was performing. The violence spread to a hotel that accommodated the club.

Despite these difficulties, Kamra is defiant, saying he will not apologize for what he said in the video.

</excerpt>

The Opposition has questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for remaining silent on comedian Kunal Kamra’s joke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi while reacting strongly to his parody song. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have issued a second summons to the stand-up comedian over alleged derogatory remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Kamra, 36, has been asked to appear before investigators at Khar police station in Mumbai in connection with a complaint filed by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.

Second Summons Issued Amid Defamation Probe

The first summons was issued on Tuesday as police launched an investigation into a defamation case against Kamra. According to PTI sources, the comedian requested a week’s time to respond.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve criticized the BJP for its silence on Kamra’s jokes about PM Modi but strong reaction to the parody song.

“Kunal Kamra directly criticised Prime Minister Modi in his show, and the BJP took no offence. But the same party was outraged over a parody song that did not even name Shinde. It appears the BJP is using Shinde as a front to target Kamra,” Danve told reporters at the legislature complex after the Budget session.

Kamra’s Alleged Remarks on Shinde and Political Developments

The controversy stems from Kamra’s parody of a popular Hindi song from Dil To Pagal Hai, in which he seemingly referred to Shinde as a gaddar (traitor) without mentioning his name. The act allegedly mocked Shinde’s 2022 rebellion against then-Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, which led to the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. Kamra also joked about the Shiv Sena and NCP splits in 2022 and 2023.

Shiv Sena Workers Vandalize Comedy Venue

On Sunday night, Shiv Sena members vandalized the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, where Kamra had performed, along with the hotel that hosted the venue.

Following a complaint from MLA Murji Patel, police registered an FIR against Kamra. Simultaneously, a case was also filed against 40 Shiv Sena workers linked to the vandalism. On Monday, police arrested Shiv Sena functionary Rahul Kanal and 11 others, who were later granted bail the same day.

The controversy continues to spark debates over political intolerance and freedom of expression in India.

</excerpt>

Comedian Kunal Kamra again courted controversy with a latest video mocking Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as ‘saree wali didi.’ He is so since he continues at the center of a political hurricane after making derogatory comments over Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shiv Sena workers caused protests and property damage by way of revenge in response to the comments made by Kunal Kamra.

Kamra’s ongoing controversy stems from his criticism of the 2022 split in Shiv Sena, where he labeled defectors as ‘traitors.’ This led to widespread outrage among Shiv Sena leaders, who stormed Mumbai’s Habitat Comedy Club, vandalizing the venue. Footage of the incident has circulated widely, intensifying political tensions.

On Tuesday, Kamra responded with another video, mocking the vandalism with a parody song,

His remark calling Shinde a “Gaddar” aligned with Uddhav Thackeray’s faction, which has repeatedly accused Shinde of betraying the Shiv Sena.

During his stand-up show in Mumbai, Kamra made the remark. As expected, the statement sparked controversy. While Shinde’s supporters condemned him, Kamra’s fans defended his right to free speech.

Political Tensions Rise

Soon after Kamra’s performance, tensions escalated. On March 23, Eknath Shinde’s supporters vandalized the venue where Kamra had performed. Additionally, Shiv Sena workers gathered at Khar Police Station to file complaints against him, while others approached the MIDC Police Station with similar demands.

Kamra Responds to Controversy

Despite the backlash, Kamra refused to apologize. Instead, he criticized those who resorted to violence.

He questioned, “Will the law be fairly and equally deployed against those who have decided that vandalism is the appropriate response to being offended by a joke?”

Furthermore, he slammed BMC officials for tearing down parts of the venue. In a sarcastic remark, he said, “Perhaps for my next venue, I will opt for Elphinstone bridge, or any other structure in Mumbai that’s in need of speedy demolition.”

On one hand, supporters argue that comedians should be free to criticize political figures. On the other hand, critics believe that public leaders deserve a certain level of respect.

</excerpt>

Comedian Kunal Kamra has found himself in legal trouble following his reported defamatory comments against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde that evoked mass political responses. The Mumbai police filed an FIR against Kamra and close to 40 Shiv Sena workers for destroying the Habitat Studio, the venue where he performed.

Political Reactions Over Remark of Kunal Kamra

The episode has heightened political tensions, with the ruling Mahayuti coalition condemning Kamra’s reported remarks and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) standing up for his right to free speech.

Maharashtra ❤️❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/FYaL8tnT1R

— Kunal Kamra (@kunalkamra88) March 23, 2025

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stressed the need to remain within the letter of the law. “No one should cross the law, constitution, and norms. They should speak within their rights. There can be differences, but it should be noted that there need not be police involvement,” he said.

Shiv Sena youth wing (Shinde faction) General Secretary Rahool Kanal, who is also charged with an FIR for vandalism, accused Kamra’s act as a “paid conspiracy.” Kanal issued a warning to Kamra saying, “The message (for Kunal Kamra) is clear, ‘Abhi tak toh ye trailer hai, picture abhi baki hai.’ Whenever you are in Mumbai, you will get a good lesson in Shiv Sena style.”

BJP’s Allegations Against Kunal Kamra

BJP MLA Ram Kadam associated Kamra’s statement with a broader political plot, alleging that the timing was deliberate to deflect attention from the charges against the Thackeray family in the Disha Salian case. He charged Kamra with acting at the behest of the Thackeray faction.

“Whose contract is he working on? Thackeray faction? Look at the timing. Did Kunal Kamra deliberately choose this time to distract people as soon as Thackeray family’s name appeared in Disha Salian case? That too on the behest of Thackeray faction? What is the reason? It’s time to blacken his face wherever one sees him. Maharashtra Government will take strict action against Kunal Karma, we warn him that he cannot use derogatory language for petty publicity,” Kadam said to ANI.

MVA Stands with Kamra

Conversely, the opposition stood up for Kamra’s freedom of speech, criticizing the vandalism of his venue.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut condemned the attack on Kamra’s studio but stood with the right to satire. “However, I believe that there is freedom of speech. If there is no personal comment, then that should be accepted. If the comment is on any political line of thought, it should be accepted. This is the beauty of our country’s democracy. Kunal Kamra’s office, studio were vandalised, this is hooliganism,” Raut said.

NCP-SCP MLA Rohit Pawar added that comedians no longer have the same freedom that they previously enjoyed before 2014. He remembered how previous leaders, such as Balasaheb Thackeray and Chhagan Bhujbal, dealt with situations in a similar manner with maturity.

“Such satirical remarks were a strength for several tall leaders, like Balasaheb Thackeray. Eknath Shinde is his worker. In 2003, such remarks were made on Chhagan Bhujbal, who is now in Mahayuti. At that time, his workers vandalised an office. Taking responsibility for it, Chhagan Bhujbal had resigned. When Rahul Gandhi was asked about a petty comment on Rajiv Gandhi in a series, he said that Rajiv Gandhi’s significance will not diminish if someone says something like that,” Pawar said.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari also supported Kamra, reiterating that freedom of expression is guaranteed by the Constitution. “If anybody has insulted someone, then you should investigate the matter. Courts are there to punish them, but this is hooliganism,” he said.

Increasing Tensions and Legal Actions

With the row mounting, everyone is looking to the Maharashtra government to learn how it treats the case against Kamra and the Shiv Sena employees involved in the desecration. As the comedian’s legal woes mount, the larger argument on freedom of speech versus political sentiments continues to polarize public opinion in Maharashtra.

“London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai (The meter of London’s black taxis, just like the meter of Archer here, has been on the higher side),” Harbhajan said live.

His remark angered cricket enthusiasts, with most demanding his suspension from the IPL 2025 commentary team immediately. Social media was filled with anger, with users criticizing the remark as racially insensitive and unsuitable for live broadcast.

Archer Records Most Costly Bowling Stats in IPL History

Jofra Archer had a forgettable performance in Hyderabad, giving away 76 runs for no wickets. Figures of 0/76 are now the most costly in the history of IPL after his performance surpassed Mohit Sharma’s earlier best of 0/73 for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.

Regardless of Archer’s fight, Sunrisers Hyderabad ruled the bat. They tallied their fourth 250-plus score in T20 cricket and became the team to have the most such scores, overtaking India and Surrey. They were short just two runs of equalling their own IPL record for the highest team total. SRH tallied 286/6, falling short of their 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024.

Ishan Kishan’s Blazing Century Propels SRH to Victory

Ishan Kishan played a stellar role in SRH’s triumph, smashing his maiden IPL century in just 45 balls. His knock helped SRH secure a 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals, giving them a strong start to their IPL 2025 campaign.

With mounting pressure on Harbhajan Singh, it remains to be seen whether IPL authorities take any action regarding the controversy.

The dispute stems from Kamra’s jibes at Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
</excerpt>

Recent stand-up act by Comedian Kunal Kamra, Naya Bharat, has sparked a controversy, with Shiv Sena workers labeling him a “traitor” for allegedly mocking Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. After a video of his performance went viral on social media, enraged Sena workers vandalized the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar area, where Comedian Kunal Kamra had performed.

The club is owned by Balraj Singh Ghai, who was also involved in India’s Got Latent show Samay Raina.

“We urge constructive conversations, not destruction, to address disagreements. We do not support hate or harm of any kind. Violence and destruction undermine the very spirit of art and dialogue,” their statement read.

The club too, announced its temporary closure, saying, “We are shutting down till we figure out the best way to provide a platform for free expression without putting ourselves and our property in jeopardy.”

Shiv Sena Workers Target Habitat Comedy Club

After Kamra’s comments, Shiv Sena workers broke into the comedy club, breaking its properties. The police reported that the protest broke out after Kamra’s performance made comments about the political unrest in Maharashtra, labeling a political leader as ‘gaddar’ (traitor).

Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel also registered a police complaint against Comedian Kunal Kamra, alleging he insulted the governing Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The Mumbai police have confirmed that they are looking into the issue.

What Did Kunal Kamra Say?

Kamra made a cutting remark about the political scenario of Maharashtra, referring to the splinter groups of the Shiv Sena and NCP. During his performance, he implied that “one guy” initiated the trend, using the word ‘gaddar’ to address him. His satirical show also featured an altered version of a Hindi number from “Dil To Pagal Hai,” eliciting chuckles from the audience.

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske strongly responded to Kamra’s action, giving a severe warning. “You will be forced to flee India,” Mhaske said in a video message. He further labeled Kamra a “contract comedian” and accused him of taking a bribe from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray to attack Shinde.

Political Leaders React

Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader posted the viral clip of Kamra’s act on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Kunal Ka Kamal.”

Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel promised to “show Kamra his level” and called for an apology from the comedian.

Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Aaditya Thackeray criticized the vandalism at the Habitat as a cowardly act.

A Growing Debate on Artistic Freedom

Kamra, known for his sharp political satire, has frequently been at loggerheads with various political parties. This recent controversy again puts the spotlight on artistic freedom and whether comedians are morally liable for their opinions.

While the police probe is ongoing, the incident also raises questions about the security of venues for hosting politically sensitive performances.

As polls draw near, Maharashtra’s political environment is still volatile, and actions such as Kamra’s will most probably continue to stir controversies on free speech versus political sensibility.

He called CEOs “thugs” and argued they are not job creators. Kamra’s comments gained support, highlighting the lack of regulations in the gig economy.
</excerpt>

After spending much of 2024 in a public spat with Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal over the company’s failure to address customer issues and faulty product deliveries, comedian Kunal Kamra started 2025 by taking a shot at the quick commerce industry.

Being based across major cities and offering doorstep, quick grocery as well as house-hold good delivery on orders, all with the recent successful growth experienced for Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart, then adding Zepto within the lot in the midst, Kamra presented the other angle or viewpoint of his apprehensions which deals concerning about the people getting exploited such gig workers through deliveries.

Kamra’s criticism began on New Year’s Eve when Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa shared the platform’s order stats, including 1.2 lakh packs of condoms and 45,000 bottles of mineral water being delivered. However, Kamra shifted his attention to the income of Blinkit’s “delivery partners” by posing, “Can you also enlighten us with data on the average wages you paid your ‘Delivery Partners’ in 2024…”

Can you also enlighten us with data on the average wages you paid your “Delivery Partners” in 2024… https://t.co/v0yBlvobCQ

— Kunal Kamra (@kunalkamra88) December 31, 2024

He used the term “delivery partners” in quotes to highlight how fast commerce platforms, including Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zomato, classify their workers as independent contractors rather than employees, avoiding the obligations associated with employee status, like fair salaries and medical benefits.

Kamra further elaborated on his concerns by tweeting about the exploitation of gig workers. He wrote, “While we enjoy the convenience of quick commerce, I’d like my first tweet of 2025 to be about the dark side,” explaining that platform owners exploit workers while claiming to be job creators. Kamra compared the CEOs of such companies to “landlords without owning any land,” stating, “They don’t have a bone of creativity or innovation; all they do is exploit people by offering them freedom they can’t afford while giving them wages that can’t meet their aspirations.

He further blamed these CEOs for being “thugs,” for without regulations, they can continue milking the sweat from workers’ brows. Kamra concluded: “They are thugs that are using data as oil without paying for the oil fields. Someday there will be regulation that humbles them…”

While we enjoy the convenience of quick commerce I’d like my first tweet of 2025 to be about the dark side.

Platform owners exploit gig workers & they aren’t job creators.

They are landlords without owning any land.

They don’t have a bone of creativity or innovation all…

— Kunal Kamra (@kunalkamra88) December 31, 2024

The tweet picked up very soon, garnering more than 1.9 lakh views. Many users agreed with Kamra’s stance. One X user, Ganeshan, said, “Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato, Swiggy. All of them. Zero creativity- only exploitation. The delivery workers are stretched to a great extent for compensation that is not justified at all. 10 mins delivery isn’t a landmark thing tbh. It’s sheer exploitation of humanity to satisfy the ego & whims of the buyer.”

CA Akhil Agarwal: “Studies indicate that more than 50 percent of gig workers earn below minimum wage after taking into account costs, while platforms continue to score billions in valuation.”

The man, visibly agitated, is seen striking his vehicle with a hammer in the clip. He was later joined by others who took turns damaging the scooter, leaving it heavily battered. The incident reportedly stems from the customer being presented with a ₹90,000 bill, which led to his outburst.

The video, filmed outside an Ola Electric showroom, has drawn widespread attention on social media. While some users criticized the man’s extreme reaction, others sympathized with his frustration, calling for more transparency and better customer service from Ola Electric.

Comedian Kunal Kamra Weighs In

Adding to the uproar, comedian Kunal Kamra recently highlighted Ola Electric’s alleged shortcomings in after-sales service. Sharing an image of scooters piled up at a service center, Kamra criticized the company and its CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, for neglecting Indian consumers. Kamra pointed out that many Ola customers, especially daily wage workers, rely on these scooters for their livelihoods and are facing financial hardships due to recurring issues.

“Do Indian consumers have a voice? Do they deserve this?” Kamra questioned in a tweet, urging the government to take action. He even tagged Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, calling for intervention to address the grievances faced by Ola users.

Bhavish Aggarwal’s Defiant Response

In response, Bhavish Aggarwal dismissed Kamra’s criticism as a “paid promotion” and urged him to “sit quiet.” Aggarwal defended Ola’s efforts to enhance its service network and pledged to address existing backlogs. He assured customers that the company was focused on resolving genuine issues and improving service quality.

Humor Amidst the Controversy

Amid the heated exchanges, industrialist Harsh Goenka added a humorous twist to the situation. Sharing an image of himself riding an Ola e-scooter, he joked, “If I have to travel short distances, say from one ‘kamra’ to another, I use my Ola.” His witty remark added a lighter note to an otherwise intense debate.

Growing Scrutiny on Ola Electric

This incident, combined with Kamra’s criticism, has intensified scrutiny on Ola Electric’s customer service practices. As the company works to expand its service network, the pressure is mounting to address the grievances of its customers and restore trust.

After a series of exchanges on social media over Ola Electric’s service issues, comedian Kunal Kamra agreed to join Ola, accepting CEO Bhavish Aggarwal’s job offer—but with specific terms. The debate began earlier this month on X (formerly Twitter), and Kamra’s recent post clarified, “After being tagged thousands of times, I already feel like an Ola employee.”

Background: Kamra Criticizes Ola’s Service Quality

Kamra had posted a photo of numerous Ola scooters parked at a service center, questioning the backlog and its effect on two-wheeler owners. “Do Indian consumers have a voice?” he asked, highlighting the daily struggles of workers dependent on their vehicles.

Aggarwal responded by calling the post a “paid tweet” and challenged Kamra, saying, “Come and help us out! I’ll pay you more than you earned for this or from your comedy career. Otherwise, let us focus on real customers.”

Since you care so much @kunalkamra88, come and help us out! I’ll even pay more than you earned for this paid tweet or from your failed comedy career.

Or else sit quiet and let us focus on fixing the issues for the real customers. We’re expanding service network fast and backlogs… https://t.co/ZQ4nmqjx5q

— Bhavish Aggarwal (@bhash) October 6, 2024

Kamra’s Conditions for Ola

Kamra laid out his conditions for joining Ola:

Ola Electric must complete all scooter repairs within seven business days.

If repairs take longer, customers should receive a replacement scooter or a daily ₹500 reimbursement.

Ola should offer ₹500 per day in penalties for delays, capped at ₹50,000.

Kamra also suggested Ola include free service insurance with every scooter to cover service-related issues.

I have no choice but to accept @bhash’s offer to work with OLA…
After being tagged thousands of times I anyway feel like I am an OLA employee.
OLA can seal this collaboration by committing to the below action points & looking forward to joining. pic.twitter.com/flqOgIkUo6

— Kunal Kamra (@kunalkamra88) October 28, 2024

Calls for Government Intervention

Kamra also urged Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to address Ola’s service problems. He shared a user’s complaint about poor conditions at a service center, asking, “When will government agencies intervene?”

Minister @nitin_gadkari please look at the plight of indian customers,
their voices aren’t heard.
They can’t get to work.
They are taking bad loans to solve an issue that is primarily Ola’s responsibility…
When will government agencies intervene? https://t.co/nJYapedavI

Ola’s Response to Complaints

Meanwhile, Ola Electric’s CFO Harish Abhichandani recently stated that 99% of complaints had been resolved, assuring customers of the company’s comprehensive redressal program.

Bhavish Aggarwal has yet to respond to Kamra’s demands.

</excerpt>

Comedian Kunal Kamra’s ongoing dispute with Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal over the state of Ola’s electric scooter service has escalated to involve government figures. Kamra recently urged Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to intervene, citing poor service at Ola’s centers, where he claims electric scooters are left unattended and without qualified technicians. Kamra highlighted this after retweeting a video from a customer who showed Ola scooters in disrepair at a Solapur service center. The comedian’s posts on X (formerly Twitter) question the company’s accountability, with claims that consumers, especially those who depend on scooters for daily work, are left in difficult positions due to Ola’s alleged service issues.

Minister @nitin_gadkari please look at the plight of indian customers,
their voices aren’t heard.
They can’t get to work.
They are taking bad loans to solve an issue that is primarily Ola’s responsibility…
When will government agencies intervene? https://t.co/nJYapedavI

— Kunal Kamra (@kunalkamra88) October 28, 2024

Kamra’s criticism started on October 6, when he shared an image showing dozens of scooters awaiting repair at an Ola service center. He questioned whether Indian consumers “have a voice” and called for anyone with grievances against Ola Electric to share their stories. Aggarwal dismissed Kamra’s post as a “paid tweet” and took a jab at the comedian, saying, “Since you care so much, come and help us out!” Aggarwal added that Kamra could join Ola and receive a higher salary than what he allegedly earns from comedy.

Kamra further amplified his criticisms by asking Ola to issue full refunds to any dissatisfied customers who had purchased an Ola electric scooter in the past four months. In response, Aggarwal claimed Ola is actively expanding its service network to clear backlogs, maintaining that “99% of customer complaints” have been resolved, as previously stated by Ola’s CFO, Harish Abhichandani. Kamra, however, continued his call for accountability, posting a video clip mocking Aggarwal’s “arrogant” response and challenging the company’s reliability as an EV provider.

Also read: Raymond Chairman Gautam Singhania Slams Lamborghini India; ‘Complete Electric Failure’, ‘No Response’

This public feud comes as more users voice dissatisfaction, sharing issues like delayed repairs, poor customer service, and unqualified technicians at service centers. Kamra even referred to Aggarwal as “Olan Musk,” drawing comparisons to Elon Musk’s polarizing presence on social media, which has fueled public interest in this showdown and led to debates around Ola’s service standards and the broader challenges facing India’s EV sector.

One such recent clash took place between Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal and comedian Kunal Kamra, garnering significant attention online. Adding a humorous twist to the heated exchange, billionaire Harsh Goenka shared a witty post that caught the internet’s eye.

Harsh Goenka Joins the Conversation

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Harsh Goenka, the Chairman of RPG Group, shared a cheeky post related to the ongoing spat. He wrote, “If I have to travel close distances, I mean from one ‘kamra’ to another, I use my Ola (Bhavish Aggarwal),” humorously referencing both Kunal Kamra’s last name and Aggarwal’s company. The tweet was accompanied by a picture of Goenka riding an Ola e-scooter.

HAVE A LOOK AT THE VIRAL POST:

Social Media Reactions

Goenka’s lighthearted jab amused many users on X, who responded with their own witty remarks. One user quipped, “I used to travel with Ola too, but mere ‘BhavishYa’ hi kharab ho gaya.” Another joked, “Only from Kamra to Kamra! Have you appreciated Ola or just Bhashed them?” Others praised Goenka’s humor, predicting that the tweet would “get a lot of mileage.”

The Beginning of the Bhavish Aggarwal-Kunal Kamra Feud

The online spat between Bhavish Aggarwal and Kunal Kamra started when the comedian shared a post criticizing Ola Electric’s service. Kamra posted a picture of dusty Ola scooters outside a dealership, implying that they were waiting for service. In his post, Kamra wrote, “Do Indian consumers have a voice? Do they deserve this? Two-wheelers are the lifeline for many daily wage workers.” He further tagged Indian Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and questioned the quality of Ola’s service in pushing the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).

Bhavish Aggarwal’s Fiery Response

Aggarwal, clearly upset by Kamra’s remarks, hit back with a sharp response. Tagging Kamra in his post, he wrote, “Since you care so much @kunalkamra88, come and help us out! I’ll even pay you more than you earned for this paid tweet or from your failed comedy career.” Kamra, in no mood to back down, called Aggarwal an “arrogant, substandard pr*ck,” to which the Ola CEO replied with more humor and sarcasm: “Chot lagi? Dard hua? Aaja service center. Bahut kaam hai. I will pay better than your flop shows pay you.”

The Back-and-Forth Continues

The feud continued to escalate, with Kamra accusing Ola of denying refunds for faulty vehicles. Aggarwal fired back by mocking Kamra’s research skills, stating, “Comedian ban na sake, chaudhary banne chale,” and advising Kamra to do better research before making claims.

The online exchange between Bhavish Aggarwal and Kunal Kamra quickly became a trending topic, with many people joining the conversation. Harsh Goenka’s playful tweet added a touch of humor to the otherwise fiery debate. As for the ongoing feud, the internet remains divided—some siding with Kamra’s critique, while others back Aggarwal’s defense of Ola Electric.

Mahua Moitra, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, praised comedian Kunal Kamra for his incisive response to the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), the right-wing group that compelled Gurugram organisers to cancel the stand-up comedian’s performance. In an open letter, Kamra challenged the VHP to publish any video of him disparaging “Hindu culture,” claiming that he “only pokes fun at the government.”

“If you are a government pet then you may feel bad. Where did the Hindu thing come from in this?” he wrote.

In addition, Kamra removed the word “world” from the group’s name because he didn’t think that “the Hindus of this world have given you the contract of their religion.”

He then issued a written “Godse murdabad” challenge to the VHP, urging them to denounce Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi.
