Market Closures and Bandh

An all-party meeting was convened by the government in Shimla to address the dispute. Representatives from various political parties agreed on the need to maintain a harmonious atmosphere and proposed the creation of a street vendor policy. Reactions from BJP and CPIM

BJP MLA Randhir Sharma supported the government’s call for maintaining harmony but urged immediate action if the mosque is found to be illegal. Similarly, CPIM leader Rakesh Singha backed the government’s efforts to restore peace and cautioned against allowing the dispute to become communal, as it could negatively affect the state’s tourism and image.

In a dramatic event on Thursday, a multistorey building in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, collapsed and was swept away by the swollen Parvati River. The structure, located near the riverbank, gave way suddenly, collapsing into the rushing waters and disappearing within moments. A video captured the building vanishing into the river almost instantaneously, with onlookers fleeing the scene as the floodwaters claimed the entire edifice.

The collapse is part of a broader crisis in Himachal Pradesh, which has been experiencing relentless rainfall leading to swollen river levels and widespread flooding. On the same day, separate cloudbursts in Shimla and Mandi districts resulted in one death and left over 30 people missing. These cloudbursts have caused severe disruptions and damage throughout the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Himachal Pradesh, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall throughout Thursday. The state is expected to face continued intense downpours over the next 2-3 days, heightening the risk of further incidents and disruptions.

Himachal Pradesh: Kullu Hit By 3.0 Magnitude Earthquake

An Earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 occurred in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh at 3.39 IST on the Richter Scale, National Center for Seismology reported.

The NCS posted on X that epicentre of the earthquake was situated at Latitude 31.48 N and Longitude 77.53 E. The depth of the earthquake was reported to be 10 kilometres.
The earthquake hit Kullu at 3.40 am.

Himachal: Cloudburst in Kullu damages houses, roads

A cloudburst that occurred in Panchnala in the early hours of Tuesday caused damage to a number of homes, according to an official statement. Ashutosh Garg, the deputy commissioner for Kullu, stated that a total of five homes were totally destroyed as a result of cloudbursts. “Five homes have sustained total damage, and 15 homes have suffered partial damage as a result of the cloudburst. The Bhuntar-Gadsa Maniyar road has also sustained damage. The cloudburst also caused two bridges to be washed away, he claimed.

He further informed that district administration officials have left for the spot of the incident to assess the damage.
“Patwari has reached the spot. Also, Naib Tehsildar Bhuntar has left for the spot,” he said.
Earlier today panic gripped the village of Malana on Tuesday when water from the 86-megawatt Malana Hydro Power Project dam in the Kullu district started overflowing due to the malfunctioning of its gates.

Himachal: One person killed, three injured in cloud burst at Kullu

According to the administration, at least one person was killed and three others were injured in a cloud burst near Kayas village in Kullu district about 4 a.m. on Monday.
“A cloud burst incident occurred near village Kayas, (Raysan) Tehsil, and District Kullu.” “One person died on the spot and three others were injured in this incident,” the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Kullu, said in a statement, adding that the victims were washed away in a vehicle. “Police Team on their way to the incident site (road is blocked at one point, JCB has been dispatched).” “More information will be shared shortly,” the DEOC stated.

The deceased has been identified as Badal Sharma from village Chansari in Kullu district.
The three injured have been identified as Khem Chand from village Badogi, Suresh Sharma from village Chansari and Kapil from village Chansari in Kullu district.
Earlier, IMD tweeted that Himachal Pradesh is likely to recieve heavy to very heavy showers on Monday.

Himachal announces compensation for Kullu bus accident victims

The Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday announced relief and compensation for the victims of the bus accident in Kullu district that killed two persons and left six more injured.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh government, Sunder Singh Thakur said, “The government has announced an immediate relief of Rs 15,000 each to the injured and Rs 50,000 will be given as compensation to the kin of the deceased within a week”.
Two people lost their lives and six others were injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus fell down a 150-meter-deep gorge in Kullu district on Wednesday.

According to the officials, the bus was coming from Nirogi to Bhuntar, and the accident happened when the bus was taking a turn. Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and started the relief work. The injured were taken to a regional hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment. “There were a total of seven people travelling in the bus, of whom two died on the spot while five, including the driver, sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment,” the officials said. One of the five injured is in critical condition.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Kullu Sakshi Verma said both the victims were identified as Godavari (40) and Vijay Kumar (30).

Heavy snowfall disrupts public utility systems in HP

Due to heavy snowfall public utility systems in Himachal Pradesh have been disrupted in the past two days. In the state 355 roads including 3 National Highways are blocked. Meanwhile, the roads which are closed are 14 roads in Chamba, 2 in Kangra, 29 in Kinnaur, 47 roads and 2 national Highways (NH) in Kullu, 29 roads in Mandi district, 54 roads were closed in Shimla, and 177 roads in Lahaul Spiti.

As per a statement from India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, “Snowfall is going on. Malana village in Kullu district received fresh snowfall. As a result, people found themselves in “knee-deep” snow.” Traffic movement has been affected due to the snowfall causing problems in commuting. The administration has suspended the movement of tourist vehicles beyond Solanganala.

PM Modi arrives at International Kullu Dussehra festival

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome as he arrived for the international Kullu Dussehra Festival today. He will be participating in the Dusshera festival here for the first time.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to citizens on the occasion of Dussehra and expressed his happiness to be a part of the International Kullu Dussehra Festival that is to be celebrated here from October 5 to 11 at the Dhalpur Ground in Kullu.

The festival is unique in the sense that it is the congregation of more than 300 deities of the valley. On the first day of the festival, obeisance will be paid to the deities in their well-decorated palanquins at the temple of the Chief Deity Bhagwan Raghunath Ji, and then it proceeds to the Dhalpur Ground.

“I am elated to provide the citizens of Himachal Pradesh with the gifts of projects in education, health, and infrastructure worth thousands of crores,” PM Modi said, adding that he will seek the blessings of the country by joining the Raghunath Ji Yatra.
“I am very fortunate to participate in the Kullu festival after so many years,” he added.
The Prime Minister will witness this divine Rath Yatra and the grand assembly of the Deities in the historic Kullu Dussehra celebrations.

PM Modi’s remarks came after he inaugurated AIIMS Bilaspur and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects here.
On Independence Day, referring to the Amrit Kaal—the next 25 years till 2047, when India will be marking 100 years of Independence—the Prime Minister urged people to focus on “Panch Pran’ (five vows).

He said the country has met various challenges in the past 75 years and there were certain unfulfilled dreams, “the next 25 years are very significant for our country.” He explained the five vows.
The first vow is for the people to move ahead with a strong resolve for a “developed India”. “We should not settle for anything less than that,”
The second resolve is that “in no part of our existence, not even in the deepest corners of our minds or habits, should there be any ounce of slavery”.
The third resolution urged Indians to be proud of their country’s heritage and legacy.
He said the fourth resolution, which is equally important, is unity and solidarity.
“Amongst 130 million countrymen, when there is harmony and bonhomie, unity becomes its strongest virtue. “On August 15, Prime Minister Modi stated.
PM Modi said the fifth vow is the “duty of the citizens,” in which even the Prime Minister, Chief Minister cannot be excluded as they are also responsible citizens and have a duty towards the nation”.

Minibus falls into gorge in Kullu, 7 dead

Seven tourists were killed late Sunday night when their Tempo Traveller crashed into a gorge near Ghiyagi village in Kullu district.

The minibus was carrying 17 passengers when it was involved in an accident around 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to police.

Visitors came from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.

The injured were taken to the Banjar Zonal Hospital, and those with serious injuries were transferred to a hospital in Kullu.

Surrender Shourie, a Banjar legislator, live-streamed the video on his social media account, informing residents of the incident.

The district administration and police launched rescue operations after receiving the information.

Gurudev Sharma, superintendent of police in Kullu, said all seven bodies had been recovered from the scene of the accident.

Four West Bengal trekkers go missing in Kullu

Four West Bengal trekkers on an exploration mission to Mount Ali Ratni Tibba (5,458m) in the Kullu district have been missing since September 7, according to officials.

Abhijit Banik and Chinmoy Mondal, both aged 43, Dibash Das, 37, and Binoy Das, 31 are the missing trekkers.

Sudesh Kumar Mokhta, director of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), stated that a cook and two members of the expedition had returned to Wachem near Malana and informed authorities about the four missing men.

“The local administration and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS, Manali) have dispatched a rescue team to search for the missing trekkers.”
