Sanjay Manjrekar’s Subtle Dig at Virat Kohli After Rahul, Jaiswal Shine

June 20, 2025, 9:22 pm

A Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin-less India made a good start in the current five-match series against England after India captain Rohit Sharma opted to bat first against Ben Stokes at Headingley, Leeds, in the first Test. India’s opening pair KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal combined caution with aggression to take England’s pace attack comprising Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jos Tongue and Stokes on a tight leash. Watching from the commentary box, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised the duo’s disciplined approach against testing conditions.

Manjrekar Praises Rahul and Jaiswal, Takes Subtle Dig at Kohli

Ex-India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar lauded Rahul and Jaiswal for their restraint in not poking at balls that were being delivered outside the off-stump. But in the process, he took a dig at ex-India skipper Virat Kohli, who had hung up his Test boots in May 2025, just days before the announcement of the squad for the England series.

Talking about Kohli, the right-handed batsman was dismissed on all eight instances against Australia in the same manner as he continued to pursue deliveries on the fourth and fifth stump lines. This chink has actually bothered Kohli throughout his career, and in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland actually capitalized upon it to the extent.

Rahul-Jaiswal Display Grit in Headingley Conditions

Talking about the Headingley Test, Rahul and Jaiswal were not looking nervous as the pair showed a clear game plan against England’s pace attack. Rahul and Jaiswal rode out the new ball during the first hour. But the pair were eager for loose balls.

“Deliveries outside the off stump, full, have been left alone. Jaiswal has done that. Anything that has been pitched right up into the stumps, he has driven. Anything that has been wide, he has looked to score on. KL Rahul has not touched one delivery or attempted to play one single delivery that’s been full, just outside off. Anything that has been wide, he has gone with a covered drive,” said Manjrekar while commentating in the first session on Day 1 of the first Test.

“So a lot of what you’re seeing is being created by these two batters, and my hat’s off to them. We know of a former batter who would have gone after that delivery and got himself into trouble. But not these two,” he added.

KL Rahul Falls After Strong Start; Sudharsan and Nair in Line-Up

It should be noted that Rahul’s dismissal finally arrived when he attempted to play a delivery that was well outside off. The right-hander attempted a massive booming drive and lost his wicket to Brydon Carse for 42.

India have given a debut to Sai Sudharsan in the first Test. The left-hander would bat at No.3. Karun Nair has also come back to the Test playing XI after eight years. He would bat at No.6.

Sanjay Manjrekar on India’s Young Batting Core

Sanjay Manjrekar added that this may be a young batting line-up, but all of the members selected in the playing XI possess good technique, which would benefit the team.

“That’s why I believe this is a young batting line-up. But when you look at their batting technique, they have the technique to survive in challenging test conditions. Sai Sudarshan as well. T20 Sensation will come and defend well. Down the order, Rishabh Pant has a good defence,” said Manjrekar.

“Jadeja as well. Karun Nair, I’m not sure how he’ll go. But these two have shown that, for openers, they’re just ideal with their defensive technique,” he added.

Earlier, England skipper Ben Stokes had won the toss and invited India to bat. The hosts are fielding with one spinner, Shoaib Bashir.

‘A Decade On, Still Unfair’: KL Rahul Row Divides Experts, Manjrekar Hits Back

June 20, 2025, 6:16 pm

KL Rahul’s to-and-fro position in the Indian Test team has sparked renewed argument among ex-cricketers, with Deep Dasgupta and Sanjay Manjrekar sharing differing opinions in a Star Sports discussion before India bat against England at Headingley.

Dasgupta, who was a wicketkeeper for India, said that Rahul has been given unfair treatment by the BCCI, attributing his modest Test average of 33.57 from playing 58 matches to a lack of consistency in his batting role over the last ten years.

“See, I just hope that they offer him a permanent role now. He debuted in 2014. It’s been over ten years, yet we don’t know where does he belong in the Indian Test team? Is he a middle-order batsman? Is he an opener?” Dasgupta wondered.

He underlined that Rahul’s career has been influenced more by team needs rather than individual consistency, stating the batter tends to change roles from opener to middle-order, even wicketkeeper, depending on team demands.

“It’s like KL Rahul is attempting to secure his spot from series to series. You want a wicketkeeper in South Africa, call him. You want a No. 5, call him. Opener? Sure… It’s been ten years now. Come on. Provide him with that series… and inform him here’s the manner in which we’re viewing you – as an opener – and play him,” Dasgupta implored.

Manjrekar Asserts Rahul Has Failed at Any Batting Spot

In recognizing Rahul’s batting positional adjustments, Sanjay Manjrekar provided a biting counterpoint, painting the picture that Rahul’s own inconsistency, and not poor team management, lies at the core of his disappointing Test career.

“Can’t I disagree? I will be polite. I think KL Rahul hasn’t delivered the sort of consistency that’s expected of him at any spot,” Manjrekar stated.

He said that Rahul‘s statistics have not warranted a permanent position, and that the best performers are never replaced unless they perform poorly.

“If this is a man who has averaged 52 as an opener, no one would even think about dropping him to No. 4 or No. 5,” Manjrekar further said.

Even though Rahul has played more than 2800 runs as an opener, since he became inconsistent, the selectors have felt it is right to try him out in a different batting position. In his six games at no. 6, Rahul has managed to score merely 234 runs.

Manjrekar wrapped up by accepting Rahul’s technical strength but argued that performance eventually has to drive selection.

“Massive responsibility on him. And Deep, after your evaluation of leaving the balls, let’s see how Rahul approaches it today,” he said.

The Bigger Picture: Rahul’s Place Still Unclear

KL Rahul’s Test career is still one of the most puzzling in recent Indian cricket history. Injuries, batting issues, and selection overhauls have all contributed to his uncertain position in the XI.

Whereas Dasgupta urges clear thinking and sustained investment, Manjrekar insists on performance-based selection — a divergence from the wider Indian cricket debate between cultivating talent or rewarding success.

As the Tests roll on, everyone’s eyes will be on KL Rahul, whose next couple of innings can well decide which of the two schools of thought is correct.

Why KL Rahul Wasn’t in Delhi Capitals’ Playing XI Against Punjab: The Real Reason Behind His Absence

May 24, 2025, 11:54 pm

Delhi Capitals (DC) played Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. DC was allowed to field first after winning the toss, allowing PBKS to come out and bat. PBKS struggled from the beginning when Priyansh Arya was given away early, getting out for only six runs. KL Rahul, however, wasn’t a part of the playing XI at the start of the match. After being hit in the nets a few days earlier, he was brought in as an impact substitute for the last few overs of the first innings.

The Early Breakthrough and Tristan Stubbs’ Catch

DC pacer Mustafizur Rahman took the first wicket of the match in the second over. Arya tried a pull shot but received a top edge, and Tristan Stubbs, the keeper, revealed great skill by backpedaling and taking a great catch while falling backward. This initial wicket left PBKS on the backfoot, with the side resting at 8/1 after Arya’s fall.

Absence of KL Rahul from the Playing XI

KL Rahul’s non-inclusion in the opening XI became a talking point. Rahul, who is normally a marquee player for DC, was not included in the first XI of this match as he suffered a recent injury. He got hit in the nets a couple of days ago, and due to that, DC rested him for a large chunk of the innings.

Nevertheless, Rahul did turn up as an impact substitute towards the last few overs of PBKS’s first inning. His coming in as a substitute provided him with the chance to play his part in the efforts of the team, even though he wasn’t in the playing XI in the beginning.

Crucial Contribution of KL Rahul in the Run Chase

When it was the turn of DC to chase an arduous 207-run target, KL Rahul contributed crucially as an opener. Stepping in as an impact replacement, Rahul immediately made a difference with a bundle of shots to clock 35 off 21 balls. His attacking strokeplay gave the impetus DC required, and it set the tone for the successful chase. Rahul’s innings was crucial to DC’s successful chase of the target, and his knock helped them win the game convincingly against PBKS.

Moreover, DC also brought in some changes for this last game of the season. Among these changes was the benching of Abishek Porel, who has been playing wicketkeeping for DC all season, for this game. This gave the management an opportunity to experiment with their team before the next season.

PBKS’s Top-Two Finish in Jeopardy

Though already having qualified for the playoffs, PBKS was keen on occupying the top two positions of the points table to have a better standing in the playoffs. Their loss to DC did impact their chances to attain that position, though. At the moment of writing, PBKS were 44/1 after 5 overs, courtesy of Prabhsimran Singh and Josh Inglis on the crease, who pulled their team back from the initial loss. To the misfortune of PBKS, the defeat left their hopes for finishing top-two in ruins, losing their chances of achieving a good playoff scenario.

For DC, who were already ruled out of playoff contention, this game was their last opportunity to close out the season on a high note. While PBKS stood to lose everything, Delhi Capitals took advantage of the opportunity to ruin their plans and close out strong, making a lasting impression on the way into the offseason.

KL Rahul Likely to Change Batting Position as Delhi Capitals Push for IPL 2025 Playoffs: Reports

May 18, 2025, 7:37 pm

As the IPL 2025 season resumed on Saturday, Delhi Capitals appear set to reshuffle their batting order. With only three league games remaining and seven teams still in contention for the playoffs, a report by The Times of India suggests that KL Rahul is likely to return to the opening slot. The franchise believes Rahul’s experience and composure could bring much-needed stability during the Powerplay overs.

KL Rahul’s role so far

Since joining Delhi Capitals this season, Rahul has largely played as a middle-order floater. In ten matches, he has opened only once, batted at No. 3 twice, and featured at No. 4 in seven games. Despite delivering consistent performances from the middle order, the team management feels the constant changes in opening partnerships have disrupted momentum.

Jake Fraser-McGurk’s dip in form and Faf du Plessis’ injury have left DC with limited choices, prompting the idea of sending Rahul to open as a more stable solution.

Delhi’s mixed IPL 2025 campaign

DC began the season on a strong note but stumbled after a narrow last-ball defeat to Mumbai Indians at home. Since then, they’ve managed only three wins in their last seven matches. The Capitals are currently fifth on the table with 13 points from 11 games, and another loss could push them out of the top-four contention, given the close mid-table scenario.

Crucial matches ahead

Delhi’s playoff hopes rest on their final three league games. They will face Gujarat Titans at home on Sunday, followed by an away match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede, and conclude their league stage against Punjab Kings in Jaipur. The outcomes of these matches will determine their playoff fate.

Bowling attack under pressure

On the bowling front, DC must overcome the absence of Mitchell Starc, who won’t return for the remainder of the league. The attack will be led by left-arm pacers T Natarajan and Mustafizur Rahman, supported by experienced right-arm seamers Mohit Sharma and Mukesh Kumar. The spin department remains reliable, with Kuldeep Yadav and skipper Axar Patel playing key roles.

Rahul’s strike rotation key to top order balance

Promoting Rahul could benefit the team in multiple ways. His ability to rotate strike effectively may ease the burden on power-hitters like Abhishek Porel or any other chosen partner at the top. This tactical shift could help unlock the natural rhythm of the opening pair.

“Rahul’s ability to rotate strike can release pressure on the explosive Abhishek Porel – or whichever partner is preferred – allowing the youngster to play his natural tempo.”

Whether this strategic switch can revive the Capitals’ faltering campaign remains to be seen as they head into a decisive phase of the tournament.

India Test Captaincy Twist: Gill Under Fire, Rahul Backed for Kohli’s No. 4 Spot

May 14, 2025, 12:28 am

After Rohit Sharma retired on May 7, the conversation around India’s Test captaincy shifted from who to when, with all focus on one person. Whereas pundits had concluded that Jasprit Bumrah, who steered India to their lone win during the just-concluded tour of Australia and was vice-captain for the format, should be succeeding Rohit as captain, reportedly the BCCI has opted to make Shubman Gill captain next. However, the narrative did not sit well with former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth, who named a new contender for the captaincy race and backed the same individual to even replace Virat Kohli at No. 4 in the Test line-up.

Bumrah’s Injury Woes Dent His Captaincy Chances

Bumrah lost ground in the race because of his trouble with back injuries. The paceman had lately experienced back spasms in the Australia series played in early January, and had missed the Champions Trophy as well as the opening of the IPL 2025. This was the second instance when Bumrah experienced an extended injury break because of a back issue.

Gill, 25, enjoys age on his side and has proven himself as a white-ball deputy and IPL captain for Gujarat Titans. The BCCI reportedly supports him as the next Test skipper, with his first assignment set to be the tour of England in June.

Srikkanth Challenges Credentials of Shubman Gill

But Srikkanth raised questions over the report as he was of the view that Gill isn’t even guaranteed a place in the playing XI. He thus supported KL Rahul for the position. The India great also recommended Bumrah and Rishabh Pant to inherit the captaincy responsibilities.

“He is not even a certainty in Test cricket. The captaincy should be given to Jasprit Bumrah, and if he is not fit or available for any match, then KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant should lead India,” he told the Times of India.

Concerns Over Overseas Form of Shubman Gill

Srikkanth apparently drew inspiration from recent performance of Shubman Gill in Australia, where he made his vulnerability on foreign surfaces clear. The Indian batter has thus far averaged a mere 19 across 12 innings on foreign soil without scoring a half-century mark away from home. As an opener, the average is 31.54 abroad, but he has no fond memory of playing with the brand-new duke ball in England, scoring a mere 88 in six innings.

The bigger worry for the selectors and the management will be identifying a capable No. 4 for India, a slot that has never been in doubt ever since Kohli was in the position for the last 12 years. The retirement of the 36-year-old, though, has led Srikkanth to recommend Rahul for the role in the series against England.

Srikkanth Recommends KL Rahul for No. 4

“Coming to the question about India’s next No. 4 in Test cricket, for me, KL Rahul should be given that position. He can be India’s lynchpin going forward in Test cricket. He has got the right technique, and the management should give him that fixed role,” he said.

Mark Boucher Echoes Support for KL Rahul

Dropped South African cricketer Mark Boucher also supported Rahul for the position, even though the Karnataka batsman had established himself as an opener in the tour of Australia and played well in the recent tour of England against the new ball.

“KL Rahul is one of the guys who might not be the youngster anymore, but he could fulfill the role. Technically, he’s good. I think he can bat both ways, which I think a No. 4 has to be able to do. He needs to have a strong technique in case you lose one or two quick wickets. Then he needs to be able to step on the gas with regard to the run rate, which I think he can do as well,” he told TOI.

Amit Mishra Backs Sanjiv Goenka, Says Media Overhyped KL Rahul Incident

April 29, 2025, 2:49 pm

Former LSG spinner Amit Mishra has defended team owner Sanjiv Goenka. Previously, Goenka faced criticism for publicly confronting KL Rahul during the 2024 IPL season. Cameras caught Goenka speaking to Rahul after LSG conceded 160 runs in just 10 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Although the exact words remain unknown, many accused Goenka of interfering in team matters.

As a result, a fallout occurred between Goenka and Rahul. Eventually, the franchise released Rahul. Later, they spent ₹27 crore on Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2035 mega auction to find a new captain. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals bought Rahul for ₹14 crore. Afterward, DC co-owner Parth Jindal said, “KL Rahul wants love and respect from his new team,” which added more fuel to the debate.

Mishra Backs Goenka

Now, Amit Mishra has spoken in support of Goenka. He claimed the media overplayed the incident.

“I feel that the media has shown off a little too much. I didn’t feel that there was anything like that,” Mishra told Cricbuzz.

According to him, LSG had suffered heavy defeats. “We lost in Kolkata in an awful way. We lost the match in 11 overs. Then we went to Hyderabad, where we lost the match in 9 overs,” he said.

Therefore, Goenka addressed the team to boost morale. “So, if there is any owner, he says that losing is okay, but just go out there and show some fight. Fight and lose, I have no problem,” Mishra explained.

He further added, “He never said anything wrong or said anything in a very high tone.”

Leadership Approach Changed

Moreover, Mishra pointed out that the team’s decision-making system changed after IPL 2024. Back then, Rahul made all the key decisions. “I spoke to the coach last season, and he told me that KL Rahul is doing all the work,” Mishra said. “He is making the 11s, making all the changes, and planning.”

However, this season things are different. “This year, when Zaheer Khan has gone, I feel like he is talking to everyone,” he continued. “There is a discussion going on. They are talking to each other.”

For instance, Mishra recalled, “I saw the coach Justin Langer on the pitch before the match against Mumbai Indians. He was speaking to Digvesh Rathi.”

In addition, he said the owner isn’t as involved as before. “I don’t feel he is very involved if you talk about the owner. Yes, he definitely wants to win. But he always stays positive when coming to the dressing room,” he noted.

LSG’s Current Status

At present, LSG are sixth on the IPL 2025 points table. They have won five matches and lost five. However, their biggest concern is Pant’s poor form. So far, he has scored only 110 runs in 10 games.

Looking ahead, LSG will face Punjab Kings on Sunday.

KL Rahul Powers Delhi Capitals to IPL 2025 Victory Over Lucknow Super Giants

April 23, 2025, 12:09 am

In a dominant performance at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Delhi Capitals (DC) won the match by eight wickets over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 40 of IPL 2025. Chasing a score of 160, DC scored 161/2 in 17.5 overs, with the former LSG captain KL Rahul proving to be the game-changer with his half-century.

Aiden Markram’s Standout Effort

Choosing to bat first, LSG totalled 159/6 in their 20 overs. Aiden Markram was the pick of LSG batsmen, scoring a 30-ball 50. His 50 contained three sixes and two fours, and he was looking to lead his side to a good total. But the DC bowlers, supported by Mukesh Kumar’s excellent spell of 4/33, Mitchell Starc’s 1/25, and Dushmantha Chameera’s 1/25, restricted LSG. The LSG, after a good beginning at 87/1 off the first 10 overs, lost their way in the second half of the inning, losing wickets at periodic intervals.

KL Rahul Anchors the Chase for Delhi Capitals

In response, Delhi Capitals required 160 to win, and the pursuit was led by KL Rahul, who made a calm 50 out of 40 balls, with two sixes and three fours. KL Rahul’s decent score was essential for DC, as he kept the pursuit going despite patches of pressure. He was ably supported by Abishek Porel, who made a brisk 51 out of 32 balls. Their alliance took DC to a dominating position, the pursuit appearing simple.

Axar Patel also contributed an excellent cameo, going unbeaten at 34 runs off 18 balls. His late cameo won it for DC, who achieved the target with 13 balls remaining. Rahul scored the winning six, a perfect conclusion to a goodly constructed pursuit.

Match Highlights of Delhi Capitals Vs Lucknow Super Giants

LSG Innings: 159/6 in 20 overs.
DC Innings: 161/2 in 17.5 overs.
LSG’s Top Scorer: Aiden Markram – 50.
DC’s Top Scorers: KL Rahul – 57*, Abishek Porel – 51, Axar Patel – 34*.
Player of the Match: Mukesh Kumar – 4/33.

With this victory, Delhi Capitals maintain their solid run in IPL 2025, while Lucknow Super Giants will have to regroup and look forward to their next games. DC’s batting and bowling dominance demonstrated their prowess, and it was an all-round victory in Lucknow.

In his innings, Rahul not only crossed the milestone but also overtook West Indies’ explosive batsman Chris Gayle, who has amassed 4965 runs in IPL. This feat solidifies Rahul’s position among the IPL legends, as he now possesses the fastest record for 5000 runs, which is a reflection of his consistency and capability to deliver under pressure.

Fastest Players to 5000 Runs in IPL

KL Rahul Joins Dhoni, Rohit, Pant Among IPL’s Most Explosive Batters

April 11, 2025, 2:25 pm

KL Rahul again showed why he’s among the most reliable match-winners in the IPL. The Delhi Capitals batter hit an unbeaten 93* off 53 deliveries against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, helping his side coast to an easy six-wicket victory. This innings was also the sixth time Rahul has hit 20 or more runs in an IPL over, putting him along with Indian cricket’s most explosive batsmen.

A Spot Among India’s IPL Power-Hitters For KL Rahul

KL Rahul has joined the exclusive list of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant each of whom have achieved this milestone six times. It is headed by the great MS Dhoni, who has achieved this feat 10 times, followed by Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant with eight each.

MS Dhoni (10 times): The Chennai Super Kings legend has built a career out of winning games with bursts of boundaries. His aggressive planning and unparalleled composure have enabled him to do this more than any other Indian.
Rohit Sharma & Rishabh Pant (8 each): Rohit, the five-time IPL champion captain, has been a power at the top of the order, while Pant’s aggressive brand of cricket has made him boss the bowling units in the middle overs.
Suryakumar Yadav & Hardik Pandya (6 each): SKY’s 360-degree cricket and Hardik’s all-round power-packed hitting make them death-overs regular threats.

Now, KL Rahul’s name shines among these Indian big-hitters, again demonstrating his adaptability as a T20 batsman.

KL Rahul Shows Calm Brilliance at the Chinnaswamy

Rahul’s innings against RCB was a masterclass in the art of pacing a chase. Walking in when DC were struggling at 58/4, he waited for his time before going after the RCB bowling attack. His innings contained seven boundaries and three huge sixes, one over alone giving 21 runs his sixth such over in IPL history.

Setting the Tone for IPL 2025

With this performance, Rahul not only powered DC to their fourth consecutive win but also sent a clear message to critics who questioned his intent in T20s. As the league stage intensifies, his form could prove vital for Delhi’s playoff ambitions.

Rahul’s reliability, finisher skills, and improved aggression make him one of IPL 2025’s most vital players and his name now shines as brightly as that of Indian stalwarts who have redefined the art of T20 batting.

KL Rahul Shines Again, Adds Another Milestone to His IPL Legacy

April 11, 2025, 1:15 pm

Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has etched his name among the Indian Premier League’s elite by securing his 15th Player of the Match (POTM) award, equaling the tallies of renowned all-rounders Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. This achievement places Rahul in a distinguished group, highlighting his consistent match-winning performances over the years.

KL Rahul’s Stellar Performance in IPL 2025

In the current IPL 2025 season, Rahul has already won two POTM awards in only three games, displaying his remarkable form and crucial contribution to Delhi Capitals’ campaign. His recent unbeaten 93 off 53 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru not only took his team to a stunning win but also gained him universal praise for his aggressive and composed batting performance. Rahul’s understanding of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, coupled with wicket-keeping insights, helped him properly evaluate the pitch and lead his team to a facile six-wicket victory.

KL Rahul Consistency Since 2018

Since 2018, Rahul has been the finest performer in the IPL, collecting the maximum number of POTM awards since then. His capability to stabilize innings and speed up when the situation demanded has transformed him into a pillar of strength in the sides he has played for, such as Kings XI Punjab, Lucknow Super Giants, and presently Delhi Capitals. His steady performances have not just fetched him praise but also made him one of the most desirable players in the league.

Joining the Legends of IPL Fraternity

By equalling the POTM award tally of Russell and Narine, Rahul has entrenched his position as among the league’s most effective players. His trajectory speaks to his individual development but also his resilience in varying team settings and game conditions. With the IPL 2025 season unfolding, all eyes will be on Rahul to determine if he can top his current count and further etch his name in the tournament’s history.

KL Rahul Haunts RCB Again, Climbs Into Kohli-Led IPL Elite

April 11, 2025, 11:55 am

Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul joined the top 10 run-scorers list of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday, replacing the current Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane and past Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik. Rahul made this chart climb during his team’s IPL 2025 match against RCB at his home stadium M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. In a challenging run-chase of 164 runs during which DC was limited to 58/4, he scored a free-flowing, aggressive and 360-degree knock of 93* in 53 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. His runs were scored at the strike rate of 175.47.

The right-handed batsman has the best record against RCB, the side which he played for during the 2013 and 2016 seasons, and in that he scored 741 runs from 17 matches and 16 innings against RCB at a score of 74.10 average with a strike rate of 147.31. He has scored one hundred and four fifties against RCB, and the highest score he made against RCB is 132*.

In successful IPL chases, Rahul has a record to cherish and is in a class of his own, with 1,208 runs in 25 successful chases, at an average of 71.05, strike rate of 148.58 and 15 half-centuries, with his highest score being 98*.

Among the 56 batsmen who have scored at least 500 runs in successful IPL chases, only David Miller has a better average (1037 runs at 103.70).

DC’s Spin Duo Restricts RCB

After deciding to bowl first, Delhi Capitals, spearheaded by the spin attack of Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) and Vipraj Nigam (2/18), held the home team back to 163/7 in 20 overs, with Phil Salt (37 in 17 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes) and Tim David (37* in 20 balls, including two fours and four sixes) playing outstanding knocks. This came about despite a strong 61-run partnership between Salt and Virat Kohli (22 in 14 balls, including a four and two sixes).

KL Rahul and Stubbs Guide DC to Victory

Delhi Capitals slipped to 58/4, but Rahul and Tristan Stubbs fought back, adding an unbeaten 111-run stand for the fifth wicket to lead their team to a clinical victory.Rahul scored an unbeaten 93 off 53, with seven fours and six sixes, while Stubbs made 38* off 23, with four boundaries and a six, in the team’s fourth victory.

DC is in the second position with four victories in all four of their matches, and RCB is in fourth position with three victories in five matches and two defeats.

KL Rahul Roars “This Is My Ground” After Dominant DC Win | Watch

April 11, 2025, 8:34 am

Delhi Capitals maintained their unbeaten run in the current season of the IPL with a remarkable six-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. Having chosen to field first, DC held RCB to an underwhelming total of 163/7 in 20 overs. Despite a great start by Phil Salt (37 off 17 balls). Towards the end of the pursuit, DC had a terrible beginning since they continued losing wickets. But due to an incredible unbeaten93* off 53 balls by KL Rahul DC secured the win within 17.5 overs.

KL Rahul Shines Against Former Team in Homecoming Show

It was a night to remember for Bengaluru boy KL Rahul, who wrested the match from his previous team’s Bengaluru’s hands. Which assisted DC to secure their fourth consecutive victory. DC required 18 runs in 18 deliveries to win, when Rahul launched two sixes and a four and concluded proceedings in style.

After striking the winning six, KL Rahul displayed his aggressive nature and pounded his chest. This was done to express his dominance and familiarity with the M Chinnaswamy Ground in Bengaluru.

Local boy. Big stage. Statement made.

KL Rahul Credits Wicketkeeping Insight and Familiarity With Ground

“Was a slightly tricky wicket. What helped me was being behind the stumps for 20 overs, just watching how it played. From wicketkeeping I figured that the ball sat in the wicket a little bit but it was consistent throughout – it wasn’t two-paced, it was one paced throughout. I knew what my shots are,” said KL Rahul after the victory.

“Just wanted to get off to a good start, be aggressive initially and assess it from there. If I was trying to hit a big six, I knew what pockets to target. Wicketkeeping gave me a feeler for how the other batters played and where were they dismissed. Got lucky with the dropped catch. This is my ground, this is my home. I know this better than anybody else. Enjoyed playing here,” he added.

Tristan Stubbs Supports Rahul as DC Chase Down 164

Pursuing a moderate 164, Delhi Capitals struggled initially but Rahul’s calm knock of 53 balls with six sixes and seven fours proved sufficient for his team.

Tristan Stubbs also contributed importantly with his 38 not out off 23 balls. Experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an economical spell of 4-0-26-2 for RCB but they simply had insufficient runs on the board.

Earlier, Phil Salt’s pyrotechnics (37 from 17 balls) and Tim David’s last-ball 20-ball 37 not out had propelled a troubled RCB to 163 for seven in 20 overs.

CSK vs DC: Why Abishek Porel Was Replaced by KL Rahul Behind the Stumps? Here’s the Real Reason

April 5, 2025, 7:08 pm

In the intense IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at Chepauk, the Men in Yellow were in trouble early while pursuing a tough target of 184. CSK lost two important wickets within the powerplay, courtesy of a scorching opening by Mukesh Kumar and Mitchell Starc.

Kumar drew first blood, and Starc sealed the deal by sending CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad packing in his second over. But what followed was of interest to the fans and also led to a small controversy.

Starc’s Missed Opportunity and Porel’s Critical Call

On the fifth ball of the third over, Starc let out a precise yorker that struck Vijay Shankar’s foot. The Australians appealed loudly, but the on-field umpire was not impressed. Starc was sure of an LBW and turned to wicketkeeper Abishek Porel for assistance.

However, in a bizarre move, Porel kept insisting there was an inside edge and cautioned acting captain Axar Patel against going for the review. The camera footage had different tales to tell. Replays indicated that there was no chance of the bat making contact, and the ball would have crashed into the stumps—an unconditional plumb LBW that might have given DC a huge advantage.

Seconds after the over ended, cameras rolled in to capture KL Rahul wearing the gloves behind the stumps instead of Porel—eliciting a media storm online.

Was Porel Punished? Here’s the Reality

Though fans thought that Porel was taken out of wicketkeeping responsibilities as a result of his error, the reality is quite different. KL Rahul, DC’s appointed wicketkeeper, was away from the field at the beginning of CSK’s innings. In his absence, Porel took up the role of a substitute behind the stumps.

After Rahul’s return, he automatically took back his wicket-keeping job. Hence, Porel wasn’t dropped or penalized; the move was situational and pre-decided.

For Starc, of course, he would feel a bit unfortunate, but DC’s bowling line-up continued to put pressure on CSK in a pivotal encounter at the Chepauk.

Why KL Rahul Might Miss DC’s IPL 2025 Opener Against LSG

March 24, 2025, 2:38 pm

The Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign gets underway for both teams on Monday at Visakhapatnam’s ACA-VDCA Stadium. The contest will be an important milestone in the career of Rishabh Pant, who will lead LSG in their first game against his old club, Delhi Capitals.

Pant was one of DC’s main men and was purchased by Sanjiv Goenka-owned LSG for a record Rs 27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction.

KL Rahul Set to Miss Season Opener for Personal Reasons

While everyone waits with bated breath for Pant’s leadership debut, availability of KL Rahul is in doubt. Rahul, who shifted to Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore after captaining LSG ever since their first season in 2022, is said to be dealing with personal issues and could miss the season opener.

DC captain Axar Patel spoke about the situation before the match, saying, “Obviously, he joined the team and we all know that he has a personal problem. So, we don’t know yet. So, if he comes back, we ask him if he is okay and we’ll let you know tomorrow morning. I think we’ve got to know and so, now we don’t know if he is available or not.”

Rahul Awaits Arrival of First Child

Rahul and his wife, Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty, are having their first child. The pair announced the pregnancy on social media in November. Because of this, Rahul is said to have joined DC’s pre-season camp late.

Rahul’s Exit from LSG Was Embroiled in Controversy

Rahul and Pant were among the big-name players let go by their franchises before the mega auction that took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in November. While Pant landed with LSG, Rahul’s departure from LSG was not so smooth. The right-hand batter also had a public spat with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka after Goenka openly criticized Rahul following the team’s comprehensive 10-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While DC and LSG prepare for their season-opening match, fans are looking forward to Pant’s captaincy debut and more news on Rahul’s availability.

Fan Breaches Security to Hug KL Rahul After Match-Winning Six | Watch

March 6, 2025, 7:03 pm

India secured a place in the Champions Trophy 2025 final with a commanding four-wicket victory over Australia in the first semi-final on Tuesday in Dubai. Despite losing early wickets, Virat Kohli’s 84-run knock and a crucial partnership between KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya guided India to victory with 11 balls to spare.

Opting to bat first, Australia posted 264 before being bundled out. Steve Smith led the charge with a 73-run knock, but lack of substantial partnerships cost them momentum. Mohammed Shami’s disciplined bowling attack, alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, ensured that the Aussies couldn’t capitalize on their start.

Heartwarming Moment: Fan Hugs KL Rahul on the Field

As soon as Rahul hit the winning six, Ravindra Jadeja hugged him in celebration. The most memorable moment, though, was when a fan broke security and ran on to the field to hug Rahul. The wicketkeeper-batter opened his arms wide and hugged the fan warmly, an act that quickly went viral on social media. Umpires soon escorted the fan off the field.

KL Rahul on His Batting Position in ODIs

Post-match, KL Rahul discussed his place in the batting line-up of India and how he has molded himself over the course of time.

“Yeah, I do [enjoy batting at the top], I mean I won’t lie. It’s after opening the batting in Australia in Test matches and having to face that attack in Australia and you know how red-ball [cricket] is much harder. I opened the batting there and then to come here and bat low seems a bit different, but this is how I’ve played white-ball cricket in the last four-five year,” Rahul told Star Sports.

“So, I’m quite used to going up and down the order so I’m just happy getting a chance to play in the middle and whatever role is given, I think it’s really helped me understand my game a lot more and I’ve had to work on boundary hitting a lot more in the last year or so because the last ODI we played in Sri Lanka I batted at No. 6, so I knew that’s where I’ll be batting and [we] needed a left-hander in the top order,” he said.

India’s Chase: Rahul Finishes in Style

India faced early setbacks, losing two wickets quickly, but Virat Kohli’s 84-run innings steadied the ship. Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul stitched together a crucial partnership to keep India on track. Rahul remained unbeaten at 42 off 34 balls*, sealing the win in style with a massive six off Glenn Maxwell.

India to Meet New Zealand in Champions Trophy 2025 Final

India progressed to the final with this victory and will meet New Zealand on Sunday in Dubai. The team hopes to carry its dominant streak and win the much-desired trophy.

‘Catch Toh Mera Bhi Achha Tha’: Shami Reacts as KL Rahul Wins India’s Fielding Medal

February 21, 2025, 6:18 pm

Despite India’s comprehensive performance in the Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh, fielding remained a facet where the team could have improved. Several missed chances, including dropped catches and missed stumpings, permitted Bangladesh to recover from a vulnerable position.

Rohit Sharma let a simple catch of Jaker Ali slip at first slip, preventing Axar Patel from securing a possible hat-trick. Shortly after, Hardik Pandya overlooked another straightforward opportunity of Towhid Hridoy at mid-off. This proved to be expensive as Hridoy and Jaker proceeded to contribute 187 runs, aiding Bangladesh in reaching a competitive score of 229 from 35 overs.

Bright Spots in India’s Fielding

Despite the fielding lapses, some Indian players made notable contributions. Virat Kohli took a well-judged catch in the deep to dismiss Jaker Ali and another to send back Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. KL Rahul redeemed himself by taking a sharp catch to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim for a golden duck. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami, who led the bowling attack with a five-wicket haul, also completed a challenging catch for India’s final wicket.

Shami’s Disappointment as Rahul Wins Fielding Medal

When the time came for the announcement of India’s fielding medal, Mohammed Shami found himself overlooked. In a lighthearted moment captured in a BCCI video, Shami joked, “Look at our fielding coach; he looks very busy. I know who’s winning it. Catch toh mera bhi achha tha yaar (Well, the catch I took was good too).”

Nominees for the Fielding Award

Fielding coach T. Dilip began announcing the nominations, first praising Virat Kohli for his reliable fielding skills.

“Coming to the nominations, I think someone who’s been really sure, that he does what he does all the time – going into his positions, grabbing every opportunity when it comes his way – none other than Virat Kohli,” he said.

KL Rahul and Shubman Gill also made it to the contenders’ list. “I think he has been very consistent behind the stumps; it’s never easy because with the new ball, diving on the left side, not only this game, he’s been really doing well, taking those catches at important junctures of time – KL Rahul.”

Dilip then added Shubman Gill’s name. “We always talk about catches, and with Shami bowling a brilliant spell, the ball went away and was heading towards his right side, Shubman Gill – fantastic effort.”

Rahul Takes Home the Fielding Medal

Dilip handed over the proceedings to India’s fielding maestro, Ravindra Jadeja, who then led the team outside the dressing room. As the big screen displayed the winner’s name, KL Rahul was announced as the recipient of the fielding medal. The entire squad burst into laughter, reminiscent of the camaraderie seen during the 2023 World Cup.

While Shami’s catch was impressive, Rahul’s overall consistency behind the stumps earned him the recognition, keeping the competition for India’s best fielder as fierce as ever.

BCCI Makes Surprising Decision on KL Rahul’s Inclusion for England ODIs: Report

January 11, 2025, 3:13 pm

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appears to have reconsidered KL Rahul’s exclusion from the upcoming ODI series against England. Initially, Rahul had reportedly requested a break from the series, a request the BCCI had approved. However, according to fresh reports, the board has now asked him to participate, with the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar eager to include him in the squad.

“The selectors initially decided to rest Rahul, who plays in the middle order and is a wicketkeeper in the ODIs, from the entire white-ball series against England at home. However, they had a rethink, and the BCCI has now asked him to play in the ODI series so that he gains some match practice ahead of the Champions Trophy in February,” a source told *Times of India*.

Rahul, who had a decent showing in the Test series in Australia, was India’s third-highest run-scorer with 276 runs in 10 innings at an average of 30.66. Despite being ahead in the pecking order, he is competing with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the wicketkeeper-batter role in the Champions Trophy squad. The selectors now reportedly want to evaluate his form in the ODIs against England before finalizing their decision.

A Cricbuzz report indicates that the BCCI has sought an extension from the ICC regarding the Champions Trophy provisional squad announcement. While the ICC had set January 12 as the deadline, it seems unlikely that the BCCI will meet it.

Key players such as Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy are being considered for the Champions Trophy squad. However, the final composition of the team remains uncertain.

Day 5: Australia Sets India 275-Run Target After Declaring at 89/7

December 18, 2024, 10:35 am

India needs 275 runs to win the Brisbane Test, with a minimum of 54 overs remaining. Australia declared their second innings at 89/7 on Day 5. The superb bowling performances by Bumrah (3/18), Siraj (2/36), and Akash Deep (2/28) put Australia on the back foot in their second innings on Day 5.

As of the last reports, India was at 8/0 in the fourth innings at the tea break. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were at the crease.

India’s Response to Australia’s 445

India were all out for 260 in response to Australia’s 445. They resumed on Day 5 at 252 for nine and added just eight runs in 24 balls.

Bumrah and Deep Show Resilience

Jasprit Bumrah (10 not out off 38) and Akash Deep (31 off 44) put together a 47-run partnership off 78 balls for the final wicket. This stand helped India avoid the follow-on. However, Deep was stumped off Travis Head in the 79th over, leaving Australia with a 185-run first innings lead.

Key Moments in the Stand

In second innings, Steve Smith strolled down the pitch to Mohammed Siraj one ball and was gone the next.

Deep’s thick edge off Pat Cummins flew over the gully fielder for four runs, securing India’s safety. He then hit a six off Cummins before blocking the next ball.

Bumrah and Deep’s Partnership Saves India

Deep finished on 27, and Bumrah remained on 10. Their unbroken 39-run partnership had pushed India to 252 for nine, still 193 runs behind Australia’s total. This partnership nearly saved India from defeat, leaving Australia with limited time to take 10 wickets.

Smith Makes Amends! Stunning Catch Sends KL Rahul Packing After Early Drop | WATCH

December 17, 2024, 5:29 pm

Steve Smith made amends on Tuesday by pulling off a breathtaking catch to send KL Rahul back, after letting him off the first ball of Day 4. The Australian star is famous for his quick reflexes at slip and had let go of an easy catch off Pat Cummins when Rahul was on 33. Rahul took full advantage of the lifeline and went on to make a dogged 84 runs.

Cummins came close to delivering a perfect delivery, but a thick edge came from Rahul’s bat as early as in the morning session and Smith’s dropped catch proved to be an early lifeline for India. The miss seemed to weigh on Smith and he looked visibly frustrated through the session, particularly when Rahul kept finding the boundary.

WHAT A CATCH FROM STEVE SMITH!

— cricket.com.au (@cricketcomau) December 17, 2024

But just before lunch, Smith seized the chance to put things right. Off Nathan Lyon’s delivery in the 44th over, Rahul, attempting a backfoot cut shot with very little room to manoeuvre, edged the ball thickly towards the slip cordon. Smith timed his low dive to perfection and held the ball inches from the ground.

A sharp catch meant Australia had an important break, and the team’s spirit also rose. After Rahul being dropped, he went on to score 50 more runs, but Smith’s effort ended his gritty innings by sending him back into shock.

The catch was particularly impressive given the minimal reaction time and the dipping trajectory of the ball, which required Smith to go low and clasp it cleanly. The dismissal marked a turning point as India found themselves in deep trouble heading into the next session.

Mitchell Starc’s Stunning 6-Wicket Haul Shreds India for 180 on Day 1 of Adelaide Test

December 6, 2024, 3:36 pm

A six-wicket haul from Mitchell Starc helped Australia defy brief periods of fightback by Indian stars KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Nitish Kumar Reddy as the visitors were skittled out for 180 at the end of the second session on day one of the second Test at Adelaide Oval on Friday.

At the end of the second session, India was all out for 180 runs, with Nitish (42) being the top run-getter for India. However, Starc (6/48) dismantled India with a memorable six-fer, adding yet another accomplishment to his envious pink-ball Test resume.

India started the second session at 81/4, with Rishabh Pant (4*) and skipper Rohit Sharma (1*) unbeaten.

The Indian captain struggled against the Aussie bowling attack and was trapped leg-before-wicket by Scott Boland for a struggle-filled three runs in 23 balls. India was 87/5 in 25.5 overs.

Pant was joined by Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had notched scores of 41 and 38* in the Perth Test and won the hearts of many with his aggressive hitting.

India reached the 100-run mark in 30.4 overs, thanks to a fine boundary toward mid-off by Nitish.

In the 33rd over, Pant was dismissed by skipper Pat Cummins, who removed him for 21 in 35 balls. Pant could not face the awkwardly high amount of bounce, and Marnus Labuschagne caught him at wide gully as he tried to defend himself. India was 109/6 in 32.5 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin was next up, and he tried to exert some pressure on Australian bowlers with some boundaries, giving some support to Nitish. He was, however, trapped lbw by Starc on a fine delivery for 22 in 22 balls, with three fours. India was 141/7 in 38.2 overs. Three balls later, Starc completed his five-wicket haul by removing Harshit Rana for a duck. India was 141/8 in 38.5 overs.

Nitish provided some much-needed bonus runs to India, audaciously taking on Boland, smashing him for two sixes and a four. This made Boland’s line and length really unstable, and he delivered two no balls. 21 runs came from his over.

However, his fightback could not last long, as Cummins got Bumrah for a duck, and Nitish was Starc’s sixth wicket for 42 in 54 balls, with three fours and three sixes. India was all out for 180 in 44.1 overs.

Starc (6/48 in 14.1 overs) solidified his legacy as perhaps the greatest pink-ball Test bowler with a memorable fifer, his first against India in Tests and his fourth in day-and-night Tests, which is the most by any bowler. Cummins and Boland also got two wickets.

At Tea, India was 82/4, with Rishabh Pant (4*) and skipper Rohit Sharma (1*) unbeaten.

After electing to bat first, India was off to a poor start as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was trapped leg-before-wicket plumb on the first ball of the innings. India was 0/1.

Following that, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were the pair at the crease who had to see off the new, shiny, pink ball. On his return from a thumb injury, Gill made his attacking intentions clear with two classy boundaries against Mitchell Starc, who had just taken Jaiswal’s wicket.

Gill was targeting Starc really well, hitting him for an odd boundary. Rahul was caught behind by wicketkeeper Alex Carey on a delivery by Scott Boland in the eighth over, but to the delight of fans, it was a no-ball.

At the end of the first 10 overs, India was 30/1, with Gill (19*) and KL (9*) unbeaten.

Rahul, who looked in supreme touch in the Perth Test, showcased it to the Adelaide crowd with some fine drives, including two successive boundaries against Aussie skipper Pat Cummins in the 15th over, which took India to the 50-run mark in 14.5 overs. KL (26*) and Gill (25*) were seeing off the pace trio of Cummins, Boland, and Starc really well with patience, punishing loose balls with disdainful drives.

KL’s stay at the crease was ended by Starc with a fine catch from Nathan McSweeney at gully. KL was gone for 37 in 64 balls, with six fours. India was 69/2 in 18.4 overs.

Virat Kohli was also looking good but was caught in slips by Steve Smith, with Starc getting him for just seven runs. India was 77/3 in 20.1 overs.

India’s downfall continued, with Gill being trapped lbw by Boland for 31 in 51 balls, with five fours. India was 81/4 in 21.1 overs.

At the session’s end, Rishabh and Rohit were unbeaten.

However, RCB exited at ₹11 crore, paving the way for Delhi Capitals to step in. KKR also withdrew later, leaving the field open for Delhi until Chennai Super Kings entered the race. Despite their late surge, CSK pulled out at ₹14 crore, sealing Rahul’s move to the Capitals. Lucknow Super Giants chose not to use their Right to Match (RTM) option, making Rahul a pivotal addition to Delhi, likely to take on a leadership role in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

After several rounds, KKR led at ₹9.75 crore before Sunrisers Hyderabad intervened with a successful bid exceeding ₹10 crore. Gujarat Titans opted not to exercise their RTM for Shami.

Pant and Rahul Draw Massive Bids in IPL 2025 Auction Mock-up

November 24, 2024, 10:54 am

Rishabh Pant is set to fetch a massive price in the IPL 2025 auction. A mock auction conducted by Star Sports and JioCinema reveals that experts share this view. Pant was purchased for INR 33 crore by Punjab Kings (PBKS), represented by Eoin Morgan. Meanwhile, KL Rahul also saw an impressive bid of INR 29.5 crore, being bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), represented by Mike Hesson.

Pant’s High Value

Pant left Delhi Capitals (DC) before the auction, stating that money wasn’t the reason behind his decision. Still, his value remains incredibly high. PBKS, with the largest purse of INR 110.5 crore, is expected to target Pant aggressively. Morgan commented, “I anticipated his price to soar between Rs 26 and Rs 29 crore, but his eventual price was a record-shattering Rs 33 crore—deservedly so.”

PBKS Focuses on Pant

PBKS is well-equipped to pursue Pant, with their substantial budget. The team sees him as a long-term investment. With Ricky Ponting, former DC coach, now at PBKS, Pant could play a key role in their future plans. Morgan further explained, “Rishabh is not just a top-order left-handed batsman but also one of the most explosive players in modern cricket.”

KL Rahul’s Impressive Stock

KL Rahul’s stock has also risen, especially after his strong performance in the ongoing India-Australia Test series. Rahul decided to enter the auction pool, opting not to stay with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Hesson shared, “RCB would ideally prioritize Rishabh Pant to ensure continuity after Virat Kohli, especially for long-term stability. I personally bid up to ₹32.5 crore for Pant but wouldn’t have stretched as much for KL Rahul.”

KKR Re-Signs Shreyas Iyer

Reigning IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also made a strong move, buying back captain Shreyas Iyer for INR 21 crore. Sanjay Bangar, representing KKR in the mock auction, highlighted the importance of leadership. “Shreyas is a proven winning captain, and in a dynamic format like T20, such leadership is invaluable,” he explained.

Other Notable Purchases

The mock auction also saw several other significant purchases:

Mitchell Starc: INR 18 crore – Mumbai Indians (MI)
Arshdeep Singh: INR 16.5 crore – Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Yuzvendra Chahal: INR 15 crore – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Ishan Kishan: INR 15.5 crore – Delhi Capitals (DC)

Acknowledging Inflated Prices

Aakash Chopra, who represented DC in the mock auction, admitted that the prices were slightly inflated. He stated, “We’ll all agree that the prices discussed here are a little inflated, but the names I’m taking will fit the team’s strategy.”

The IPL 2025 auction is shaping up to be highly competitive. With top players like Pant and Rahul likely to bring in substantial bids, the results will influence each team’s strategy for the upcoming season.

Jaiswal Shines with Century as India Tightens Grip in Perth

November 24, 2024, 9:47 am

India dominated Day 2 of the first Test against Australia, establishing a commanding position at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The dominance continued on Day 3, with Yashasvi Jaiswal completing his century.

On Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul, combined with debutant Harshit Rana’s crucial dismissal, ended Australia’s innings before lunch. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul batted through two sessions, frustrating the hosts and laying the foundation for a significant lead.

Jaiswal’s Grit and Rahul’s Patience

Starting cautiously on a tricky pitch that saw 17 wickets fall on Day 1, Jaiswal and Rahul steadied India’s innings. They neutralized Australia’s new-ball attack with patience, ensuring no repeat of the first-innings collapse. Their calculated approach included smart running between the wickets and a focus on minimizing risks. Boundaries were scarce, but their determination paid off as they stitched together a 201-run partnership.

Jaiswal reached his century early on Day 3, marking his fourth Test ton and first in Australia. His innings showcased composure and flair, including playful interactions with Australian fielders. “The nervous nineties are always tricky,” Jaiswal remarked before the day’s play, but he crossed the milestone with ease, cementing his reputation as a rising star.

Meanwhile, Rahul’s composed 77 ended when Mitchell Starc broke through his defenses, delivering Australia a much-needed breakthrough.

India in Command

India resumed Day 3 at 172/0 and quickly extended their lead to 313 runs. India scored 267/1 till the last reports. With the pitch flattening out, the team aims to bat Australia out of the game. Devdutt Padikkal, replacing Rahul at No. 3, looked steady but cautious. Jaiswal, approaching 150, continues to lead the charge, eyeing a monumental score in his maiden Test Down Under.

Australia Struggles for Momentum

Australia’s bowlers toiled with little success. Mitchell Starc provided a spark by dismissing Rahul, but the aging ball and flat pitch offered limited assistance. The hosts must balance containing runs and breaking India’s rhythm, a tough challenge against an in-form batting lineup.

India’s Strategy for the Day

India’s batters will look to build a lead of over 350 before potentially declaring. Virat Kohli and other middle-order batters will aim to capitalize on the solid foundation laid by Jaiswal and Rahul. Meanwhile, the bowlers, led by Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, will be ready to target Australia’s top order later in the day.

Highlights from Day 3

Starc’s Impact: Starc dismissed KL Rahul for 77, ending a formidable 201-run stand.
Jaiswal’s Century: Jaiswal reached his fourth Test hundred off 205 balls, continuing his stellar form in 2024.
Commanding Lead: India’s lead now stands at 313, with plenty of batting depth still to come.
Stable Start: India’s openers played two wicketless sessions on Day 2, firmly establishing control.

Looking Ahead

India’s performance so far has been dominant, showcasing resilience after a challenging series against New Zealand. With a massive lead in sight, the visitors are poised to set a daunting target. Australia, on the other hand, must regroup quickly and find ways to mount a comeback in this crucial Test match.

KL Rahul Cleared For Perth Test After Elbow Injury Recovery, Eyes Redemption

November 17, 2024, 6:21 pm

KL Rahul has regained full fitness from his elbow injury ahead of India’s first Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that gets underway on November 22 at Perth Stadium. He had been struck on the elbow during an intra-squad simulation match.

Physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar updated Rahul’s recovery, and after an X-ray and scan, he was confident that Rahul would be fine. “I took him for the x-ray and scan, and based upon the reporting, I was much more confident that he should be fine. It was just a matter of controlling the pain and giving him some confidence,” Parmar said. “From a medical point of view, he is absolutely fine.”

The BCCI issued a statement confirming Rahul’s recovery, saying: “After being hit on his elbow on Day 1 of the match simulation, KL Rahul has recovered and is raring to go.

India is already dealing with another injury concern, as Shubman Gill sustained a thumb injury on the second day of their intra-squad match at WACA. There are also concerns over Rohit Sharma’s possible availability for the Perth Test, considering Indian skipper has recently become a father, on November 15. If Rohit is not available and Gill does not recover, then openers would be left solely to play with Yashasvi Jaiswal, including Abhimanyu Easwaran and Rahul.

KL Rahul is looking to prove himself in Test cricket as he did not do much. He was left out of the playing XI as India failed to win the first Test against New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In fact, during a first-class match between India A and Australia A at Melbourne, Rahul found it tough with the bat. He was dismissed for just four runs by Scott Boland in the first innings and was only able to make 10 runs from his batted, which was once again lost to Corey Rocchiccioli.
