</excerpt>

The Royal Train will shortly depart the station for the final time.

King Charles III has approved it’s time to retire the train, which has a history dating back to Queen Victoria, as it is too expensive to run and would have required extensive renovation for improved rail systems, Buckingham Palace reported Monday.

End of a Historic Tradition

The train, actually a suite of nine railcars that can be hitched to commercial locomotives, will be decommissioned sometime before the current maintenance contract expires in 2027. That will bring to an end a tradition that dates back to 1869, when Queen Victoria commissioned a pair of special coaches to accommodate her travels.

The decision was announced during the palace’s annual briefing for reporters on the royal finances.

Royal Household Budget Overview

The royal household will for the fourth year in succession get public money worth 86.3 million pounds, of which 34.5 million pounds will be used to finance the refurbishment of Buckingham Palace, during the 12 months to March 2026.

This fund is derived from a system called the Sovereign Grant, which allocates 12% of the net revenue of the Crown Estate to finance the official engagements of the king and other members of the royal family.

Understanding the Crown Estate

The Crown Estate refers to a portfolio of assets that belong to the monarch during his tenure. The assets are managed professionally and cannot be disposed of by the king.

The Crown Estate is just one of the leftovers from Britain’s feudal past. King George III, in office during the American Revolution, relinquished control of the crown lands to Parliament in 1760 for an annual fixed payment from the Treasury.

Modernizing the Monarchy’s Finances

The finances of the royal household are still a matter of public discourse, with Charles vowing to cut the monarchy down to size and save money as he works to preserve the institution’s future.

Buckingham Palace was also swift to remind us that while the Sovereign Grant has remained flat over the last four years, inflation has eaten away at its purchasing power. If the grant had gone up with inflation, it would be around 106 million pounds this year, the palace added.

Revenue Boost from Tourism and Events

The core grant was topped up with 21.5 million pounds of revenue from assets beyond the Crown Estate. Revenue rose by 1.7 million pounds, fueled by a record year of visitors to Buckingham Palace and exclusive tours of the newly refurbished East Wing.

Craig Prescott, a constitutional law expert at the University of London’s Royal Holloway specializing in the political role of the monarchy, said the cost of the royals is comparatively modest in relation to the British state’s total cost and offers solid returns for the nation.

A Busy Year for the Royal Family

Last year, Charles visited Australia and represented the organization at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa his first as head. The royals also stole the show at the 80th anniversaries of D-Day and V-E Day, which commemorated the end of World War II in Europe, and hosted the leaders of Japan and Qatar during state visits to the U.K.

Total, the royals appeared in public 1,900 times in the U.K. and abroad. Approximately 93,000 visitors attended 828 functions at the royal palaces.

</excerpt>

India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, described this year’s International Day of Yoga as “special” because King Charles III extended his wishes in a rare gesture.

Royal Message Adds Significance

Speaking to ANI, Doraiswami said, “This year is particularly special as we had, for the first time as far as I’m aware, a message from His Majesty the King.” He also noted that this royal message marked an important gesture for the 11th anniversary of International Day of Yoga.

Vibrant Celebrations at The Strand, London

The Indian High Commission in London hosted a grand celebration at The Strand. People from the Indian diaspora, yoga followers, and supporters of India joined the event. They participated in guided yoga and meditation sessions.

The event followed this year’s global theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” Alongside the yoga session, guests enjoyed cultural performances like Indian classical music and dance, reinforcing yoga’s deep link with Indian heritage.

Yoga and the Summer Solstice

Doraiswami highlighted why Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21. “There is a reason why historic civilisations saw the summer solstice as a very special day. It’s connected with yoga’s scientific role in healing and improving human health,” he explained.

King Charles Praises Yoga’s Global Impact

The message from King Charles III praised yoga’s growing popularity in the UK. “Yoga for One Earth One Health reminds us how vitally important it is that the world comes together to secure a happy and a healthy future,” the King said.

“Millions across the UK are reaping its benefits.” “I send my best wishes to everyone celebrating the 10th anniversary of International Yoga Day,” he added.

The event at The Strand was co-hosted by the Indian High Commission and King’s College London. The Indian mission also shared updates on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting yoga’s positive message of unity and well-being.

A Global Recognition

In 2014, the United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga after a proposal by India, supported by 175 nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the idea during his address at the 69th UN General Assembly.

Since then, the day has grown into a global celebration of mind-body wellness and environmental consciousness.

</excerpt>

David Beckham is finally set to receive a knighthood from King Charles III in the upcoming King’s Birthday Honours list, a moment that celebrates not just his iconic football career, but also the years he’s spent giving back through charity work and public service.

The 50-year-old former England captain, who earned 115 caps and scored in three different World Cups, has long been celebrated for his impact on and off the pitch. His wife, Victoria Beckham, will accordingly be styled as “Lady Beckham.”

Beckham’s path to knighthood hasn’t been without its bumps. Though he was considered for the honour back in 2011, it was delayed due to a tax investigation, a matter he was later cleared of. Even with that setback, Beckham didn’t slow down. Beckham has also advocated for children’s rights and global quality. He is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador for the same since 2005. The King’s Foundation also appointed him as an ambassador in 2024. Under this, he focuses on youth education and protecting the environment.

Beckham’s Relationship With The Royal Family

He also shares a warm and longstanding bond with the royal family. He’s been seen at royal weddings, state dinners, and most recently appeared with King Charles and Queen Camilla at the Chelsea Flower Show, showing just how invested he is in both royal causes and public service. Receiving his knighthood, Beckham steps into the ranks of British football greats like Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson, and Sir Gareth Southgate.

This recognition is not just about what he’s achieved in football, but more so about his efforts off the field, in which he has done good for people across multiple fields. Beckham is a great personality to admire for the youth of today, both for his dedication on the field and off of it.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that he has returned to Clarence House, but his upcoming engagements have been postponed as a precaution.
</excerpt>

King Charles III was hospitalised on Thursday after experiencing temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment. Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming that His Majesty required a short period of observation and has now returned to Clarence House.

Buckingham Palace Issues Statement

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace told The Sun, “Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital. His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed.”

Upcoming Engagements Postponed

The spokesperson further mentioned that King Charles was scheduled to receive Credentials from the Ambassadors of three different nations on Thursday afternoon. He was also expected to undertake four public engagements in Birmingham on Friday. However, these engagements have now been postponed on medical advice.

King Charles’ Cancer Diagnosis

King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024 following a procedure for benign prostate enlargement. Buckingham Palace had issued a statement at the time, stating, “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”

Current Health Status

According to The Sun, the monarch was taken by car to The London Clinic, not via an emergency vehicle, indicating that the situation was under control. The outlet reported that King Charles’ treatment is progressing in the right direction, and he hopes to reschedule the missed engagements soon.

The visit highlights the UK’s unwavering diplomatic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. King Charles III has previously expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and this meeting further reinforced Britain’s commitment.

</excerpt>

A businessman accused of spying on behalf of China has received invitations to Buckingham Palace and other royal residences from Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. The man, known as only “H6,” banned by the government from the United Kingdom for national security reasons, went to several royal homes Buckingham Palace twice, St James’s Palace, and Windsor Castle, to receive invitations from the duke.

On Friday, the Duke of York’s office said he had “ceased all contact” with H6 after security concerns were raised. It was explained that the duke met the businessman through “official channels” and that no sensitive discussions took place. The case against H6 was brought to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission after Home Secretary Suella Braverman declared in March 2023 that he should be excluded from the UK.

Briefing notes shared with the home secretary in 2023 noted that H6 had the potential to build relationships between high-ranking Chinese officials and influential figures in the UK, which might result in political interference. According to experts, like Harvard’s Rana Mitter, this type of influence is more about long-term relationship building rather than instant access to sensitive information.

Other reports indicate that King Charles has also been informed about his brother’s relationship with the alleged spy. The royal family is now taking steps away from Andrew, including reducing his £1m yearly allowance and cutting private financing for the duke’s security. Critics, including MPs and royal biographers, feel this new development only adds to the reputation of the royal family and increases calls for the scrutiny of their finances and activities.

</excerpt>

King Charles III has revealed a cherished memory from his childhood involving the late Queen Elizabeth II and her preparations for her 1953 coronation. Speaking about the historic event, the king shared that his mother, then just beginning her reign, would often wear the monarch’s crown during his evening bath time as part of her practice routine.

The king, who was four years old at the time, said the vivid memories have stayed with him ever since. Recalling those moments, he explained, “I remember it all so well. My sister and I had bath time in the evening, and my mama used to come up wearing the crown. It’s very important to wear it for a certain amount of time because you have to get used to how heavy it is.”

Charles added that he never forgot the day his mother became queen, noting how deeply it impacted him. “I can still remember it vividly,” he said during a conversation with visitors while giving a tour of Buckingham Palace.

Reflecting on his own coronation, King Charles admitted feeling anxious about wearing the weighty St. Edward’s Crown during the elaborate ceremony. He joked about his concern that the crown might wobble while placed on his head.

The heartwarming anecdote offers a glimpse into the family’s personal moments behind the grandeur of royal tradition, shedding light on the late queen’s meticulous preparation for her historic role as monarch.

Beckham’s invitation stemmed from his role as a paid ambassador for Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a position that reportedly earned him £10 million but also drew criticism due to Qatar’s laws criminalizing same-sex relationships.

Victoria, dressed in a custom dark purple gown from her own label, accompanied her husband as they processed into the East Gallery. Once seated, the couple adhered to state banquet protocol by sitting apart. David was placed next to Tory leader Kemi Badenoch and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, while Victoria was between Labour peer Lord Levy and surgeon Lord Darzi.

The menu featured a lavish spread, including Cornish lobster tartlets, Windsor pheasant, and Balmoral plum sorbet. Guests were also served a Royal Mirage mocktail, crafted to reflect the Qatari flag and honor the Emir’s preference for non-alcoholic beverages.

Floral arrangements, featuring red amaryllis, black tulips, and winterberries, adorned the ballroom, with the flowers set to be donated to hospices and care homes post-event. Music for the evening was provided by the Hiraeth String Quartet and King’s Harpist Mared Pugh-Evans.

The banquet highlighted Beckham’s growing ties with the royal family. A longtime royal supporter, he recently joined King Charles’s charity, The King’s Foundation, and was present at key royal events, including the weddings of William and Kate, and Harry and Meghan. Victoria, a noted fashion designer and OBE recipient, has seen her creations worn by royals such as Meghan Markle and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

The event marked another milestone in the Beckhams’ relationship with the monarchy, further cementing their status as showbiz royalty.

</excerpt>

As Britain works to enhance its global relationships in the post-Brexit era, plans are underway for King Charles III and Queen Camilla to embark on a royal tour of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The visit, which marks a significant step in the King’s recovery from cancer, is seen as an opportunity to strengthen Britain’s economic and cultural ties with these key nations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is believed to have extended an invitation to the royal couple, who recently concluded a tour of Australia. According to reports, the visit to the Indian subcontinent had been initially planned for 2022 but was postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. However, sources close to the monarchy indicate that preparations for the trip are now progressing.

“This is incredibly encouraging, particularly after the challenges the King has faced this year,” an insider shared with The Mirror. “The proposed tour holds significant political and cultural weight, solidifying Britain’s global presence at a crucial time.”

King Charles has a long history with India, having made ten official visits during his time as Prince of Wales. His most recent trip in 2019 focused on strengthening bilateral relations, and more recently, the King and Queen visited India for a retreat after their Australian and Samoan tours. Now, the monarch is enthusiastic about returning to India in an official capacity as King.

The upcoming tour will also include visits to Pakistan and Bangladesh, with discussions underway between the British Foreign Office and the respective governments. Prime Minister Modi’s interest in hosting the royal couple is seen as a significant step in reaffirming the relationship between Britain and India.

Despite facing health challenges earlier this year, King Charles is recovering well and is expected to resume a full schedule of royal engagements next year, depending on his doctors’ recommendations. Buckingham Palace has yet to confirm the details of specific trips, but reports suggest a packed calendar of overseas visits is being planned for 2025.

A palace aide noted, “The King has genuinely enjoyed his tours this year, and they have lifted his spirits and aided his recovery. Despite the demands, the tours have been the perfect tonic.” King Charles made his public return in April, visiting a cancer treatment center with Queen Camilla, and continued with engagements like Trooping the Colour in June, marking a successful and encouraging recovery since his diagnosis.

</excerpt>

Monarch’s Practical Final Note Before Her Passing

The last entry in Queen Elizabeth II’s private diary has been made public, shedding light on the monarch’s final days. The Queen, who reigned for 70 years and passed away in 2022 at the age of 96, kept a personal journal throughout her life, documenting events and her daily activities. The final note, recorded just two days before her death, reflects her typically practical and factual style.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman uncovered the final diary entry while researching an updated edition of his book about King Charles. The entry, written at Balmoral, where the Queen passed away on September 8, 2022, noted a meeting with her private secretary, Edward Young. She detailed the arrangements for the swearing-in of new Privy Council members following the arrival of Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Hardman described the entry as “factual and practical,” with the Queen’s writing not reflecting personal thoughts but simply recording the events of the day. “It could have been describing another normal working day,” Hardman wrote, referring to how the Queen noted Young’s visit and the arrangements for the new administration.

A Tradition of Royal Journals Passed Down Through Generations

The Queen’s approach to diary writing, which focused on events rather than personal reflections, was consistent throughout her reign. In comparison, her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, kept extensive diaries, reportedly writing over 60 million words during her nearly 70-year reign. Queen Elizabeth once remarked on her own style, saying, “I keep a diary, but not like Queen Victoria’s. It’s quite small,” explaining that her journal was focused on events due to her busy schedule.

The practice of keeping a journal ran in the royal family. Elizabeth’s father, King George V, also maintained a diary, and Queen Elizabeth took inspiration from him. Today, King Charles continues the royal tradition, keeping his own written record of daily life.

The publication of this final diary entry offers a glimpse into the Queen’s dedication to duty, right up until her last days.

Despite their advocacy for sustainability, many leased properties fail to meet energy efficiency standards, raising concerns and prompting calls for inquiry.
</excerpt>

A recent investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times has revealed that King Charles and Prince William’s private estates are profiting substantially from public services and charities. The Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, which manage thousands of leases across the United Kingdom and are exempt from certain taxes, have reportedly earned at least £50 million from rental and usage fees paid by institutions including the National Health Service (NHS), state schools, and prisons.

One significant lease involves Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust in London, which has committed to paying £11.4 million over 15 years to the Duchy of Lancaster to house the hospital’s electric ambulance fleet in a royal warehouse. The report highlighted that the two duchies oversee over 5,400 leases, generating millions annually to support the royal family’s charitable and personal expenses.

Environmental Standards and Additional Charges on Public Land

Despite their public advocacy for environmental issues, many properties leased by the royal estates fall short of government-mandated energy efficiency standards, with 13-14% of their residential buildings rated F or G. The investigation revealed that letting properties below an E rating has been illegal since 2020, yet numerous properties in both duchies have yet to meet these standards. The Duchy of Lancaster responded, stating that 87% of its properties are rated E or above, with the remaining awaiting upgrades or exempt from these requirements.

In addition, the Duchy of Cornwall has brokered a £37 million lease for Dartmoor Prison with the Ministry of Justice, obligating the ministry to fund all repairs despite the facility being deemed uninhabitable due to radon gas levels. Prince William’s estate also charges fees to the Royal Navy for moorings and imposes levies on the army for training access on Duchy land.

Calls for Parliamentary Inquiry on Royal Finances

The revelations have prompted calls for a parliamentary inquiry, with some suggesting a merger of the duchies with the Crown Estate, whose profits benefit the government. Both estates stated that they are commercial entities complying with statutory requirements and have undertaken efforts to improve environmental sustainability. However, while King Charles and Prince William pay taxes on their profits after business expenses, the specific amounts remain undisclosed.

</excerpt>

Reports suggest Meghan Markle may soon agree to let her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, meet King Charles III—albeit under “one condition,” hinting at a potential shift in relations between the Sussexes and the British monarchy.

According to Daily Mail, Meghan and Prince Harry are reportedly purchasing a home in Portugal, where they are also considering a ‘Golden Visa.’ This property move is believed to have been facilitated by the Duke’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

Speculation is growing that this move could be aimed at strengthening ties with the Royal Family without the complexities of traveling to the UK.

Since stepping back from royal duties and relocating to the U.S. in 2020, Meghan has returned to the UK only twice: once for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee and again for her funeral in September 2022. Archie, born in 2019, spent his early months at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, but Princess Lilibet, born in 2021 in California, has never lived in the UK.

A source told Closer Magazine, “Now, if it is deemed safe from a security standpoint, it’s likely she’ll give her blessing for Harry to take Archie and Lilibet to see their grandpa, King Charles, at some point.” The source added that a home in Portugal “will make that easier, because Meghan can fly over with the kids without feeling trapped.”

Commentators view Meghan’s decision to buy a home in Portugal as a potentially “shrewd move,” considering her ongoing tensions with the Royal Family.

After flying from Samoa, they engage in yoga, therapy sessions, and enjoy healthy meals. This marks Charles’s first official trip as monarch, having previously visited Bengaluru multiple times as Prince of Wales.
</excerpt>

King Charles III and his wife, Camilla, have been discreetly staying in Bengaluru since October 27, as reported by The Indian Express. The 75-year-old monarch and the Queen Consort are undergoing wellness treatments at Soukya International Holistic Health Centre (SIHC) in Whitefield.

The royal couple arrived in Bengaluru directly from Samoa, where they attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting from October 21 to 26. Due to the secretive nature of their trip, the Karnataka state government did not officially welcome them upon their arrival at HAL airport, and there were no traffic restrictions during their transit to Whitefield.

During their stay at SIHC, King Charles and Camilla have participated in early morning yoga sessions, rejuvenation treatments, and special therapy sessions facilitated by the center’s dedicated staff. The couple has also enjoyed the center’s cuisine and taken long walks during their downtime. They are scheduled to depart from Bengaluru today.

This visit marks King Charles III’s first official trip to Bengaluru as monarch; however, he previously visited the city multiple times as the Prince of Wales. Notably, his 71st birthday was celebrated at the SIHC with considerable fanfare. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, Charles ascended to the throne.

Located in Samethanahalli, Whitefield, Soukya International Holistic Health Centre was established by Dr. Issac Mathai and Dr. Suja Issac. The wellness center specializes in various treatments, including Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Acupressure, Yoga, and Homeopathy. Charles has reportedly visited SIHC nine times previously and has a dedicated staff assigned to his care during each stay.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer advocates a forward-looking approach, but diplomats prepare a communique urging a meaningful dialogue. King Charles III faces pressure to address the monarchy’s historical ties to slavery.
</excerpt>

As Commonwealth leaders gather in Samoa, Britain’s government and King Charles III are bracing for intensified discussions on reparations for the transatlantic slave trade, a topic poised to dominate the summit. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, speaking en route to Samoa, emphasized a “forward-looking” approach, noting that Commonwealth nations are also facing immediate challenges, such as climate issues. However, diplomats are reportedly preparing a summit communique advocating for a “meaningful, truthful, and respectful conversation” about slavery’s legacy.

Between 1640 and 1807, Britain enslaved approximately 3.1 million Africans, transporting them to colonies worldwide, particularly to the Caribbean for sugar production. Calls for Britain to issue a formal apology or consider reparations have long been resisted by successive governments. A 2023 report by The Brattle Group, commissioned by the University of the West Indies, estimated potential reparations for 14 affected nations at $24 trillion (£18.5 trillion)—around seven times the UK’s GDP.

The biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) draws representatives from its 56 member states. King Charles III, who formally opened this year’s summit, has taken steps toward acknowledging Britain’s role in slavery. During previous Commonwealth addresses, he described the “wrongdoings of the past” as causes of “greatest sorrow and deepest regret.” Both he and Prince William have shown support for research into the monarchy’s historical involvement in slavery.

Despite expressions of contrition, the UK government has not offered an apology or entertained reparations. King Charles, as a government representative, is limited to the official stance, which firmly excludes financial restitution. Yet, with Commonwealth secretary-general candidates openly supporting reparations, the issue is likely to shape the bloc’s future agenda and potentially impact its leadership selection at this year’s summit.

The Queen’s Building, recently converted for dining, would host up to 277 guests indoors and 144 outdoors, with plans for alcohol sales and live performances at special occasions.
</excerpt>

Aberdeenshire Council is reviewing an application that could transform part of King Charles III’s secluded Balmoral estate in the Scottish Highlands into an exclusive events venue. The proposal outlines plans for hosting weddings, dinners, and meetings at the Queen’s Building, situated just north of Balmoral Castle. Originally built in the 1980s as a canteen and staff quarters, the building was converted last year to serve as a dining area for estate visitors.

If the application is approved at next week’s council licensing board meeting, the venue will accommodate up to 277 guests inside and an additional 144 on an outdoor patio. The application also seeks permission to serve alcohol and play music until 12:30 a.m., noting that events will be infrequent. Submitted in April, the plans highlight the potential for live performances and dancing at the estate, which has increasingly opened its grounds to the public over recent years.

Nestled within 50,000 acres (20,000 hectares) of moors, forest, and farmland, Balmoral is about 50 miles (31 kilometers) west of Aberdeen. The estate was a favorite of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away there in September 2022 at the age of 96. Privately owned by the British monarch, Balmoral was acquired by Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, in the mid-19th century, and has since become a cherished royal retreat, especially during the summer.

King Charles III has continued efforts to expand public access to Balmoral, introducing holiday cottages, Land Rover tours, and guided visits to the estate. This year, the venue was fully opened to the public, offering insights into royal life that were swiftly embraced by visitors—tickets for the estate tours sold out within a day, despite prices starting at £100 ($130).

Kava Ceremony Highlights

Dressed in a white safari-style suit, the 75-year-old monarch sat at the front of a beautifully carved wooden longhouse on Thursday. He was presented with a polished half-coconut filled with kava, a mildly narcotic drink that is an important part of Pacific culture, known locally as “ava.”

The kava roots were processed by the chief’s daughter and filtered through a sieve made from the bark of a fau tree. As part of the ceremony, a Samoan man dramatically poured the drink, which was then offered to the king. Before sipping, Charles said, “May God bless this ava,” and the ceremony concluded with applause from the attendees.

Sitting next to him was Queen Camilla, who fanned herself to cope with the humid tropical weather.

Warm Welcome in Samoa

Samoans are thrilled to welcome King Charles on his first visit to their island nation, which was once a British colony. After the ceremony, the royal couple visited the village of Moata’a, where Charles was formally made “Tui Taumeasina,” a title meaning high chief. According to local tradition, the area around Moata’a is believed to be the birthplace of coconuts.

Local chief Lenatai Victor Tamapua expressed excitement about the king’s visit, stating, “Everyone has taken to our heart and is looking forward to welcoming the king. We feel honoured that he has chosen to be welcomed here in our village. So as a gift, we would like to bestow him a title.”

Tamapua also intended to discuss climate change with the royal couple, highlighting the impact of rising tides on local mangroves, which are crucial for the community’s food supply. “The high tides are just chewing away on our reef and where the mangroves are,” he explained, adding that their community relies on these areas for mud crabs and fish.

Commonwealth Meeting and Climate Concerns

King Charles is in Samoa to attend the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Apia. This meeting will address the legacy of colonialism and its lasting effects. Commonwealth leaders are set to select a new secretary-general, nominated from an African nation, in accordance with the rotational policy for this position.

Candidates for the role have publicly called for reparations for slavery and colonialism. Joshua Setipa from Lesotho mentioned that potential resolutions could include innovative forms of compensation, such as climate financing. “We can find a solution that will begin to address some injustices of the past and put them in the context happening around us today,” he stated.

Climate change will be a key topic at the meeting, with Pacific nations like Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Fiji supporting calls for a “fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty.” These nations are urging Australia, Britain, and Canada to take greater action to reduce emissions, as they have historically contributed over 60 percent of the Commonwealth’s fossil fuel emissions.

While the King acknowledged Australia’s First Nations in his address, Thorpe’s protest highlighted ongoing colonial trauma and the call for a treaty with the British Crown.
</excerpt>

Senator Voices Opposition to Monarchy

King Charles III encountered unexpected opposition during his visit to Australia’s Parliament House on Monday when Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe shouted, “You are not my king,” following his speech. Thorpe, a DjabWurrung Gunnai Gunditjmara woman, demanded the return of Indigenous land, claiming, “Give us our land back, give us what you stole,” as security escorted her from the room. The protest occurred during the royal couple’s meeting with Australian leaders, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

King Acknowledges First Nations Culture Amid Protests

In his address, King Charles acknowledged the contributions of Australia’s First Nations people, emphasizing the value of their shared stories and cultures. Despite the royal couple being welcomed with a traditional Aboriginal ceremony, many Indigenous Australians feel excluded from the monarchy’s celebrations, given the historical context of British colonization that resulted in significant trauma and discrimination for Indigenous communities. Thorpe has long advocated for a treaty and has criticized the monarchy for its colonial legacy.

While King Charles and Queen Camilla participated in a series of engagements, including planting trees at Parliament House, the visit was marred by protests and the reminder of the ongoing issues faced by Indigenous Australians. The royal couple is set to continue their tour in Sydney and later travel to Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are likely to confront a substantial demand for reparations amounting to $261 billion, related to the United Kingdom’s historical role in the transatlantic slave trade. This claim is expected to be presented during the upcoming Commonwealth summit, where leaders from 56 nations will convene. The push for reparations has gained momentum following remarks from Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Advocacy for Reparations by Mia Mottley

Mia Mottley has been a prominent advocate for reparations, asserting that they should be a part of a “global reset.” In her address to the United Nations, she emphasized the importance of addressing the enduring effects of slavery and colonialism on contemporary international relations. Estimates for reparations vary widely, ranging from $261 billion to a staggering $24 trillion. UN Judge Patrick Robinson has underscored the moral responsibility of governments to provide reparations for historical injustices, reinforcing the demand for financial compensation.

Meeting Between Mottley and King Charles III

During a recent meeting in London, Mottley praised King Charles for his openness to discuss the issue of reparations ahead of the Commonwealth gathering. Although Buckingham Palace has not disclosed specific details from their conversation, Mottley highlighted the king’s acknowledgment of Britain’s role in the slave trade, referring to it as “a conversation whose time has come.”

King Charles III’s Serious Approach to Historical Connections

King Charles has reportedly taken his family’s historical connections to slavery “profoundly seriously.” This renewed attention comes after historian Dr. Brooke Newman uncovered a ledger indicating that King William III received shares in the Royal African Company, a corporation significantly involved in the slave trade. The ledger, dated 1689, records a transfer of $1,300 in shares to William of Orange from Edward Colston, the governor of the company.

Buckingham Palace’s Expression of Remorse

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace expressed deep sorrow regarding the suffering caused by slavery. They stated, “I cannot describe the depths of my personal sorrow at the suffering of so many, as I continue to deepen my own understanding of slavery’s enduring impact.” The spokesperson also mentioned that efforts to understand this legacy have intensified since the king’s accession. An independent research project, launched in October of the previous year, aims to investigate the connections between the British monarchy and the transatlantic slave trade during the late 17th and 18th centuries, with backing from the royal household.

Reflections from UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, whose ancestry is linked to the legacy of slavery, shared his thoughts on the experiences of his ancestors. He noted how they heard “the twisted lies of imperialism” and were “stolen from their homes in shackles and turned into slaves.”

The trip will test his stamina and mark his first Commonwealth visit as monarch.
</excerpt>

King Charles III is preparing for a significant overseas tour in October, marking his first visit to Australia and Samoa since recovering from cancer. The trip, scheduled from October 18 to 26, will span multiple time zones and test the 75-year-old monarch’s stamina as he resumes his royal duties after a break.

A Test of Stamina Post-Cancer
Having taken a pause from public life after his cancer diagnosis in February, Charles’ decision to embark on this journey signifies his recovery. The visit will be closely watched as a reflection of his health and resilience, as he is expected to manage the challenges of international travel.

First Commonwealth Realm Visit as King
The trip will begin in Australia, where King Charles will visit for the first time as monarch. Australia is one of the 14 Commonwealth realms where Charles remains head of state. His visit comes amid ongoing discussions about Australia’s future ties with the monarchy, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese previously advocating for a republic, though those plans are currently on hold.

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa
The tour will also include a stop in Samoa, where Charles and Queen Camilla will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). This will be the king’s first time attending CHOGM as the head of the Commonwealth, a group of 56 nations, many of which share historical ties with the UK.

Themes of the Tour
According to Buckingham Palace, the tour will focus on celebrating the unique cultures and contributions of Australia and Samoa. The palace statement added, “Their Majesties’ engagements will highlight the best of both nations and reflect the ongoing work of the king and queen.”

Friends say the brothers haven’t spoken in nearly two years, and tensions remain high following Harry’s public criticism of the royal family. King Charles, however, still hopes for reconciliation.
</excerpt>

Prince William reportedly does not want his brother, Prince Harry, to attend his coronation, according to a recent report by The Sunday Times. The Prince of Wales expressed a desire for his crowning to “look and feel different” when he ascends the throne following the death of his father, King Charles III.

Close friends of William have revealed that the relationship between the two brothers has become deeply strained, with the pair not having spoken for nearly two years. Since stepping down from royal duties and moving to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle, Harry has repeatedly criticized the royal family, notably in his memoir, “Spare”.

A friend of King Charles expressed concern that private conversations with Harry could end up being shared in a potential second volume of his memoir. Despite these tensions, the friend noted that the King’s ability to forgive remains strong, though other family members are less inclined to reconcile.

One of Harry’s friends criticized him for his public attacks on the royal family, calling his actions “outrageously disloyal.” Meanwhile, a former aide to the Duke of Sussex suggested that Harry has struggled to find purpose since leaving royal life, despite his dedication to his work with the Invictus Games and fatherhood. The aide questioned whether Harry is now contemplating his future and direction.

</excerpt>

Prince Harry reportedly declined an invitation from his father, King Charles III, to stay at Buckingham Palace during his brief visit to the UK in May for a service at St. Paul’s Cathedral commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. Instead, the Duke of Sussex opted for a hotel stay, further highlighting the ongoing rift between him and the royal family.

While it was known that Harry had previously turned down offers to stay at royal properties, new details from ‘The Times’ reveal that he was specifically offered accommodation within Buckingham Palace itself. A source close to the matter expressed confusion over Harry’s decision, stating, “I don’t know what more the King could have done. He offered Harry to stay at Buckingham Palace, but it seems even that wasn’t good enough.”

The source added that the palace would have provided all the necessary security, making Harry’s choice to stay in a hotel “all the more strange.” The Duke’s visit reportedly did not include a meeting with King Charles, as the monarch’s schedule was already packed with other commitments. This lack of a meeting has fueled speculation among royal experts, some of whom believe that Prince William might have played a role in preventing the reunion between Harry and his father.

The relationship between Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family, particularly with King Charles and Prince William, remains strained. This tension has been exacerbated by revelations in Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ and his Netflix docuseries, which have continued to widen the gap between him and his family. Despite a brief reunion in February when Harry visited his father after the announcement of King Charles’s cancer diagnosis, their relationship remains distant.

</excerpt>

King Charles III is reportedly “refusing to take Prince Harry’s calls,” according to a friend of the Duke of Sussex, as the rift within the Royal Family continues to widen. Friends of Prince Harry claim that the King is no longer responding to his estranged son’s calls or letters, exacerbating the tension between them.

The last known meeting between the Duke and the monarch occurred in February, when they spoke for 45 minutes in London following the King’s cancer diagnosis. Since then, their communication has reportedly deteriorated, particularly amid escalating tensions over Prince Harry’s ongoing struggle for automatic security when he is in the UK.

During Prince Harry’s brief visit in May for the Invictus Games, King Charles did not meet him, citing a “full schedule.” This lack of communication has been troubling for Harry, who is reportedly “frightened” for the safety of his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

Prince Harry has expressed fears for Meghan’s safety, stating, “It only takes one lone actor [who reads negative stories about Harry and Meghan in the press] with a knife or acid,” during the ITV documentary ‘Tabloids on Trial.’ He believes that King Charles has the authority to intervene in his ongoing court case with the Home Office regarding his security. According to sources quoted in People, the issue of security, which began as a point of frustration, has now led to “complete silence” between father and son.

“He gets ‘unavailable right now.’ His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too,” shared a friend of Harry’s.

The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), which operates independently of the King and is part of the Home Office, makes decisions regarding the Duke of Sussex’s security. Despite this, Harry seems to believe that his father could influence the proceedings.

Prince Harry recently lost his High Court challenge in London against the UK Government over his right to state-funded police protection. He had told a judge that he did not feel safe bringing his children, Archie and Lilibet, to the UK without proper security and could not risk putting Meghan “in danger like that.” He feels “It’s still dangerous” to travel to the UK with his family because “all it takes is one lone actor” to harm them.

</excerpt>

In a tragic incident on Monday, a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, northern England, resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to nine others. Merseyside Police’s Chief Constable Serena Kennedy confirmed that six of the injured children are in critical condition, along with two adults who were also critically wounded in their attempt to protect the children.

The Attack and Arrest

The incident occurred around 11:50 a.m. local time when the police received reports of a stabbing at a dance studio in Southport, north of Liverpool. A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Chief Constable Kennedy explained, “We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked.”

Witness Accounts

Colin Parry, a local business owner who called the police, described the scene as a “horror movie.” He said, “The mothers are coming here now and screaming. It is like a scene from a horror movie.” Parry directed the police to an address on Hart Street, where the Taylor Swift-themed yoga and dance class for children aged six to eleven was taking place.

Another resident recounted a mother’s frantic plea for help. “She was screaming, ‘my daughter’s been stabbed,’” he said. “It was a mum with her 10-year-old daughter who had been stabbed.”

Emergency Response

The Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Trust in Liverpool, about 20 miles from Southport, declared a “major incident.” The hospital issued a statement urging parents to bring their children to the emergency department only if absolutely necessary, given the strain on resources due to the incident.

National Response

The incident has shocked the nation, with King Charles III and Queen Camilla expressing their profound shock and sending heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families. The Royal Family’s statement read, “My wife and I have been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in Southport.”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also addressed the nation, saying the “whole country” is deeply shocked by the events in Southport. He expressed condolences to the victims and praised the emergency services for their swift response.

Patrick Hurley, the British MP representing Southport, expressed his deep concern and hopes for the best possible outcomes for the casualties. “My thoughts go out to all those affected, their loved ones, and to the entire community,” Hurley said on social media.

As the investigation continues, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, Counterterrorism Police Northwest have offered their support, and the incident is not currently being treated as terror-related.

</excerpt>

King Charles III is keen to repair his strained relationship with Prince Harry, but his tolerance is wearing thin as the Duke of Sussex remains unwilling to compromise, according to a royal expert.

The father and son have been entangled in a longstanding feud, which intensified when Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, announced their departure from the Royal Family in 2020.

Following their departure from Buckingham Palace, numerous public revelations emerged about their experiences within the palace, including several startling allegations.

In his memoir ‘Spare,’ released last year, Prince Harry voiced criticisms against his father, stating that Charles “had trouble communicating, trouble listening, trouble being intimate face-to-face.”

Royal author Tom Quinn suggests, “Charles feels he has made huge efforts to repair his relationship with his son, but that Harry refuses to give an inch. With that in mind, Charles is changing his tactics.”

“The new plan is to take a harder line with Harry; a move from good cop to bad cop, but palace insiders agree that Charles is at the end of his tether. He wants to be reconciled with his son, but nothing he does seems to work,” Quinn told the Mirror UK.

“One underlying problem is that Harry was never really that close to his father as a child – looked after by staff and shunted between Diana and Charles, Harry has always looked lost and forgotten and it’s too late now for his father to do anything about it,” Quinn explained.

Many had anticipated that Prince Harry would mend his relationship with his father during his recent visit to the UK for the Invictus Games. However, the monarch was unable to meet his younger son due to a “full programme.”

A spokesperson for Prince Harry explained in a statement, “It unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

Subsequently, reports emerged stating that Charles had indeed extended an invitation to meet with Prince Harry, which was declined.

</excerpt>

Amidst his ongoing battle with cancer and internal tensions within the Royal family, King Charles recently resumed his duties on April 30 and even hosted two garden parties at Buckingham Palace. However, both the monarch and Prince William have abruptly cancelled all upcoming engagements after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak surprisingly announced general elections on July 4.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace announced that both the King and his son William would likely continue to postpone scheduled engagements “which may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign.” This decision aligns with the common practice of adjusting schedules during election campaigns to keep public attention focused on the electoral process.

Buckingham Palace also extended apologies to the public and those involved in the rescheduled activities. “Their Majesties send their sincere apologies to any of those who may be affected as a result,” the statement read.

While this year’s Trooping the Colour is scheduled for June 15, it remains uncertain whether the ceremony’s date will change. However, Queen Camilla and Charles’ travel plans to Normandy, France, for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings are reportedly unaffected.

Additionally, Prince William expressed regret for the cancellation of his appointments, with Kensington Palace stating, “We look forward to rescheduling in the future and are extremely sorry to anyone who has already traveled,” according to Hello.

With the sudden change in schedules, Prince William is expected to have “more than a month of family time,” according to Newsweek. This pause offers a significant opportunity for family bonding, though it may be frustrating for Charles, who was just getting back into his routine after his health challenges.

This development comes amidst challenging times for the royal family, as both Charles and Kate Middleton are battling cancer and have scaled back their public appearances in recent months. Charles was diagnosed with an unspecified cancer during a routine hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement in February, while Kate continues to recover from abdominal surgery in January and has not yet resumed her royal duties.
