Congress MP KC Venugopal wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, raising significant concerns regarding his recent comments concerning the June 1975 emergency declaration. Venugopal underscored the potential repercussions of these remarks on the credibility of Parliament, characterizing them as unprecedented and deeply concerning.

He highlighted that making political references from the Chair, especially in the context of the Speaker’s initial duties, raised significant concerns about parliamentary traditions. Venugopal concluded by conveying the Indian National Congress’s dismay over this departure from established norms.

Speaking to ANI, Venugopal further commented that political statements from the Speaker could have been avoided and stressed the need for a cooperative parliamentary environment. He also criticized the President’s recent address, noting its similarity to previous speeches and its perceived lack of new initiatives for various segments of Indian society.

Earlier, the Lok Sabha had adopted a resolution condemning the 1975 Emergency, with Speaker Om Birla underscoring June 25, 1975, as a dark chapter in India’s history. He praised those who resisted the Emergency and defended democracy during its imposition fifty years ago.

Congress MP KC Venugopal stated that they were still waiting and expressed readiness to elect the NDA’s candidate unanimously if the Deputy Speaker post was offered to them. Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s remarks the previous day about consensus in the functioning of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Venugopal emphasized their willingness to support the Speaker proposed by the government, provided that the Opposition was also respected. He highlighted the tradition where Speakers come from the government’s side and Deputy Speakers from the Opposition, noting that during the UPA’s tenure, they had allocated the Deputy Speaker position to the NDA for a decade. Regarding a recent conversation between Rajnath Singh and Mallikarjun Kharge, Venugopal relayed that Kharge had conveyed their support for the government’s candidate but requested the Deputy Speaker post. Rajnath Singh had responded that he would consult PM Modi and revert with a decision.

KC Venugopal: “Congress will win in both Amethi and Raebareli”

During the ongoing Lok Sabha session, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal expressed confidence in the INDIA alliance, stating that they are united and poised for victory. He emphasized, “Our unity is strong, and we are confident of winning. In particular, we are optimistic about our prospects in both Amethi and Raebareli.”

Venugopal noted the prevailing positive sentiment among the public towards the INDIA alliance. When asked about Rahul Gandhi’s prediction that the BJP would not secure more than 150 seats, Venugopal responded, “Rahul Gandhi is well-informed with data and has extensively traveled across the nation. He has a deep understanding of the people’s sentiments.”

During a joint rally in Amethi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav campaigned for KL Sharma, the Congress and INDIA bloc candidate in Amethi. Akhilesh Yadav asserted that the BJP’s prospects had dwindled after the first four phases of the election, predicting that they would struggle to secure even 140 seats. He emphasized, “The people of the country have decided to limit the BJP to less than 140 seats. These individuals want to alter the constitution and our rights, but now the people will enact change.”

Rahul Gandhi highlighted BJP leaders’ statements about their intent to amend the Constitution if they win the elections. He expressed concerns that such changes would lead to the demise of public sector units (PSUs), loss of jobs, removal of reservations, and the erosion of citizens’ rights. Rahul Gandhi warned that without the Constitution, power would be concentrated in the hands of a few wealthy individuals, leaving others without their rights.

Amethi and Raebareli, traditionally strongholds of the Gandhi family, have regained attention. Rahul Gandhi is contesting in Raebareli, while the Congress’s close associate Kishori Lal Sharma is competing against Smriti Irani in Amethi. The Congress secured only two seats in Uttar Pradesh in 2014 (Raebareli and Amethi), which decreased to one in 2019 after losing Amethi.

On May 3, the Congress announced Rahul Gandhi as the candidate from Raebareli and loyalist KL Sharma from Amethi. Rahul Gandhi, currently an MP from Kerala’s Wayanad, is seeking reelection from both Raebareli and Wayanad. He previously represented Amethi from 2004 to 2019. In Raebareli, he will face BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh, a former Congress member.

Raebareli and Amethi will vote on May 20 in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, which is being conducted in seven phases. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.

On Saturday, the Indian National Congress (INC) unveiled a roster of 27 star campaigners for Jammu and Kashmir, featuring notable figures such as party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. These leaders will spearhead the party’s campaigning efforts for the Lok Sabha elections, slated to occur in five phases in the region.

The list of star campaigners for the parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir was formally submitted by INC general secretary KC Venugopal to the Secretary of the Election Commission of India. The lineup includes prominent figures like Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ambika Soni, KC Venugopal, Sachin Pilot, Bharatsingh Solanki, Vikar Rasool Wani, GA Mir, Tariq Hameed Karra, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Revanth Reddy, and Harish Rawat.

Additionally, the list comprises Pramod Tewari, Pawan Khera, Ranjeet Ranjan, TS Singh Deo, Imran Pratapgarhi, Raj Babbar, Pirzada Mohd Sayeed, Manoj Yadav, Tara Chand, Raman Bhalla, Chowdhary Lal Singh, GN Monga, Shameema Raina, and Akash Bharat.

These leaders of the Indian National Congress will actively engage in campaigning activities as per Section 77(1) of the Representation of People Act 1951, particularly focusing on the first and second phases of the general elections to the Lok Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir in 2024.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar earlier indicated that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will follow shortly after the Lok Sabha polls. This announcement was made alongside the declaration of dates for the general election, four state polls, and 26 Assembly by-polls.

The Lok Sabha polls in the Union Territory are scheduled to take place in five phases on April 19 (Udhampur), April 26 (Jammu), May 7 (Anantnag-Rajouri), May 13 (Srinagar), and May 20 (Baramulla), with the counting of votes set for June 4.

FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi, others for alleged damage to public property in Assam

An FIR has been lodged against Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, along with several others, including KC Venugopal and Kanhaiya Kumar, for causing damage to public property during the Nyay Yatra in Assam, as reported by the state Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma. Addressing the situation, Chief Minister Sarma declared, “With reference to wanton acts of violence, provocation, damage to public property, and assault on police personnel today by Cong members, a FIR has been registered against Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Kanhaiya Kumar, and other individuals under section 120(B)143/147/188/283/353/332/333/427 IPC R/W Sec. 3 of PDPP Act.”

Earlier in the day, a confrontation unfolded between the police and Congress workers in Guwahati, Assam, during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress MP, encountered hindrances while attempting to enter Guwahati during the yatra, prompting protests from party members who broke barricades and voiced slogans. Speaking to his supporters on the outskirts of the city, Rahul Gandhi affirmed, “We have broken barricades, but will not break the law.”

Continuing to underscore the party’s resilience, he stated, “You should not think we are weak. We have broken the barricades. They have canceled my program at the university. My program was canceled, but the students heard me outside. We will defeat the BJP in Assam and form the Congress government soon.” Gandhi expressed solidarity with the police officers, recognizing their efforts and highlighting the party’s opposition to the Chief Minister.

To thwart the Congress workers, the police resorted to force, erecting barricades at two locations to prevent the Yatra from entering the city limits. Despite facing challenges, the Yatra, which returned to Assam for its final leg, is anticipated to traverse the outskirts of Guwahati until Thursday.

Congress to launch the ‘Donate for Desh’ crowdfunding campaign today

On Monday, December 18, the Congress will begin a national crowdfunding campaign called “Donate for Desh” in an effort to generate resources for the party in advance of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress announced that Mallikarjun Kharge, the party chief, will kick off the campaign in Delhi.

According to the Congress, Indians who are older than eighteen (18) can contribute to the campaign with a minimum of Rs 138 or in multiples of Rs 1,380, Rs 13,800, and so forth. According to Congress MP KC Venugopal, Mahatma Gandhi’s famous ‘Tilak Swaraj Fund,’ established between 1920 and 1921, served as the model for this crowdsourcing project. According to him, the initiative seeks to enable the party in building a prosperous and equitable society in India.

Prior to the most recent general elections, on October 2, 2018, the party launched a “outreach-cum-crowdfunding” campaign; however, the campaign did not pick up much steam locally. According to sources close to the Congress, the party is short on funds and unable to compete with the well-oiled BJP electoral apparatus. It has been claimed that because the program is set up to benefit the ruling party, the BJP is receiving the majority of electoral bonds.

Up until the party’s foundation day on December 28, the campaign will mostly be conducted online. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing Delhi Police, under Union Home Minister Amit Shah, of politicizing the recent security breach in Parliament. Addressing a media briefing at the AICC headquarters, Venugopal questioned the suspension of 13 Congress MPs and Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien for the remainder of the ongoing Winter Session, citing misconduct. He highlighted the government’s assurance that the new Parliament building would be the safest place but witnessed lax security.

In response to the political developments, Venugopal announced the launch of the Congress’s online crowdfunding campaign, ‘Donate for Desh,’ inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s historic Tilak Swaraj Fund. The initiative aims to empower the party to create a more equitable India in resource distribution and opportunities.

The crowdfunding campaign, officially launched on December 18 by the party president, encourages contributions from state-level office bearers, elected representatives, DCC Presidents, PCC Presidents, and AICC office bearers, urging them to donate at least Rs 1,380 each. KC Venugopal: “Congress’ stand very clear on caste census, we are in favour of it”

Following controversy caused by Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s post warning against “Jitni abadi utna haq” (rights based on population), party leader KC Venugopal stated on Tuesday that his party has a very clear position on the issue and is in favor of it.“Our party’s stand is very clear. We are for a caste census. Congress President and Rahul Gandhi have given statements on it,” KC Venugopal said.
Amid the row over issue, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Tuesday said that the idea of ‘the greater the population, the greater the rights’ will eventually push the country towards ‘majoritarianism’.

Madhya Pradesh: Kharge appoints Jitu Patwari as co-chairman of Campaign Comittee

In a letter signed by the AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the appointment of Jitu Patwari, a former minister in the Kamal Nath administration, as the co-chairman of the Campaign Committee for the Madhya Pradesh Congress. Later this year, Madhya Pradesh will hold elections for its legislative body. The state will choose representatives for 230 Assembly constituencies through the voting process.

However, ahead of the elections, several BJP leaders, including a former member of parliament (MP) of BJP from Balaghat Bodh Singh Bhagat have joined the Congress party.

Building will never give results but discussion will, says KC Venugopal

On the first day of the special session of Parliament, Congress leader KC Venugopal stated that the new Parliament building is unimportant, but the debate within it is.

The last day of Parliamentary activities in the old building is today. Beginning tomorrow, proceedings will be held in the new Parliament building, which is adjacent to the old one.

Venugopal told the media that “The old building is very beautiful, what is the problem in this one? Buildings are not important but the discussion inside them is very important. Parliament is for strengthening democracy and raising the concerns of the poor people of the country. When you talk about building, it will never give results but the discussion will.”

The Congress leader went on to speak about the women’s reservation law, saying that if the government is sincere, it should pass it at the special session.

“We are totally for women reservation, if they (the government) have any sincerity they should pass women reservation bill in this session. our LoP has told this in Rajya sabha too,” Venugopal said.

Deepender Singh Hooda, a Congress lawmaker, also spoke on the final day of the old Parliament building, saying that he considers himself fortunate that his family has been a part of this 75-year journey.

“It is an emotional moment for all of us, I consider myself fortunate that our family also had a part in this journey of 75 years. My grandfather was released from the British prison and after release he had taken oath in this Parliament only, he was a Member of this Parliament till 1978. After that, my father was a member here and since the last 20 years, I got this opportunity. It is not easy to define this Parliament,” Deepender Singh Hooda told the reporters.

KC Venugopal: Congress stand on Centre’s ordinance is clear

Ending weeks of speculation over the party’s position on the Centre’s ordinance on service control in Delhi, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal stated on Sunday that the party’s position is’very clear’ and that it will oppose it in parliament.

“Congress’ stand on this is very clear. We will oppose it,” Venugopal said while speaking to ANI. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said the Congress’ “unequivocal opposition” to the Delhi ordinance was “a positive development”.

AAP MP and national spokesperson Raghav Chadha tweeted, “Congress announces its unequivocal opposition to the Delhi Ordinance. This is a positive development.”

Following the first Opposition meeting in Patna on July 23, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that it would be “very difficult” for it to join any alliance that included the grand old party unless the Congress formally condemned the ordinance.

With the Congress having made its position on the Delhi ordinance known, the AAP will now attend the upcoming opposition party meeting in Bengaluru. “The party will participate in the meeting of like-minded parties in Bengaluru on July 17-18,” Raghav Chaddha stated.

In May, the BJP-led central government issued an ordinance on the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in Delhi, thus overturning a Supreme Court ruling that gave the elected government in Delhi control over services.

The legislation proposes establishing a National Capital Civil Service Authority to oversee the transfer and disciplinary actions of Group-A officers from the DANICS cadre.

Govt. not addressing common man’s issues: KC Venugopal on Union Budget

KC Venugopal, Congress General Secretary responded negatively on the Union Budget presented by finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday and stated that the government is not addressing the serious economic conditions in the country including common man’s plight.

The Congress General Secretary said, “The government is not addressing the serious concerns of the country’s economic condition and the common man’s plight. This is my first reaction.” Stating that people are in a distressed mood in the country, he said, “The actual problem is whether the Budget is addressing the current economic issues including price rise, and unemployment. There is no income for the people. How can they benefit by increasing the tax limit?”

On Wednesday, Finance Minister stated that the new tax regime will now be the default tax regime and announced an increase in the income tax rebate limit from Rs.5 lakh to Rs.7 lakh. She also proposed to change the tax structure in this regime by increasing the tax exemption limit to 3 lakh and reducing the number of tax slabs to 5.
“Tax for income of Rs.0-Rs. 3 lakh is nil, for income above Rs.3 lakh and up to Rs.5 lakh will be taxed at 5 per cent, for income of above Rs.6 lakh and up to Rs.9 lakh will be taxed at 10 per cent and for income above Rs.12 lakh and up to Rs.15 lakh to be taxed at 20 per cent and above 15 lakhs at Rs.30 per cent.” Finance minister stated addressing personal loan.

Venugopal also attacked the government regarding poor track record of previous unfulfilled promises.

113 times Rahul Gandhi violated security guidelines; says CRPF

Since 2020 including in the Delhi leg of the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra on 113 occasions, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) said the Congress leader violated security guidelines. This comes a day after Congress wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah alleging that Rahul Gandhi’s security has been breached.

Meanwhile, CRPF will be taking this matter separately and on Wednesday night CRPF’s reply was sent late.

Earlier Congress leader wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah and claimed that in the national capital Rahul Gandhi was compromised during Bharat Jodo Yatra and the Z+ category protectee failed to control the surging crowd.

“It is pointed out that on several occasions violations of laid down guidelines on the part of Shri Rahul Gandhi have been observed and this fact has been communicated to him from time to time,” CRPF to Congress National General Secretary KC Venugopal.

“For instance, since 2020, there have been 113 violations observed and duly communicated. It may further be mentioned that during the Delhi leg of Bharat Jodo Yatra, the protectee has violated security guidelines and CRPF will be taking up this matter separately.”

“The security arrangements have been fully made for Mr. Rahul Gandhi as per the guidelines,” the force said.

“It may be pointed out that during visits of the protectee the required security arrangements are made by the CRPF in coordination with state police and security agencies as per guidelines.” the force said.

“Advisories based on threat assessment have been issued by the MHA to all stakeholders concerned including the state governments. Advance Security Liaison (ASL) is also undertaken for every visit,” CRPF stated.

Moreover, the CRPF further stated, “All security guidelines have been strictly followed and Delhi Police has informed that sufficient deployment of security personnel was made”.
