Haunted by guilt, he approached police after a decade. A case is filed, and investigations are underway.
</excerpt>

A man from Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district has now stepped forward with horrific charges, alleging he was coerced into cremating and burying the corpses of numerous girls and women he said were raped and killed in and around Dharmasthala between 1998 and 2014.

The victim, a one-time sanitation worker who used to work for the Dharmasthala temple administration, went to local police earlier this week and sought protection for himself and his family. The New Indian Express reports that the victim said he had been motivated by guilt and a need to get justice for the victims to open his mouth almost a decade after the incident.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Arun K told TNIE, “The individual has asked not to disclose his identity and after receiving due permission from the court, we filed a case.”

Graphic Allegations and a Call for Justice

In his own statement, the man described his discovery of what he had thought were victims of rape and murder, including schoolgirls. He was said to have provided photographs of human remains he claimed to have uncovered recently remains that he said he had buried years ago.

“I ask the police to dig up the bodies of those buried by me. Approximately 11 years ago, I took my family and escaped from Dharmasthala and hid ourselves and stayed in the neighboring state. We are terrorized every day that we too will be murdered,” the man replied, quoted in TNIE.

Case That Haunts Him: A Schoolgirl in Uniform

Among the cases he talked about, one case has lingered with him. He explained how he found the corpse of a girl aged between 12 and 15 in 2010, approximately 500 metres from a petrol station in Kalleri.

“A single incident has pursued me till eternity. A 12- to 15-year-old girl was discovered lying dead at a distance of approximately 500 metres from a petrol bunk at Kalleri in 2010. She was a schoolgirl and there was no skirt or innerwear on her and she had signs of sexual assault and strangulation,” he maintained in his statement.

He also complained that he was instructed to dig a hole and place the body of the girl in it with her schoolbag.

Allegations of Cover-Up and Threats

As per his supporters, Ojaswi Gowda and Sachin Deshpande, the man asserted that he witnessed several murders throughout the years, which include the killings of homeless persons and beggars in Dharmasthala. He claimed that his boss instructed him to dispose of the bodies discreetly and attacked him when he disobeyed and refused to report to authorities.

A case was lodged on July 3 at Dharmasthala police station under Section 211(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which refers to the omission to give information required by law. Investigation into the allegations is in progress, and a government response is awaited.

The Supreme Court slammed the state, demanding protection for theatres. Karnataka promised security if theatres screen the film despite ongoing opposition.
</excerpt>

Thug Life has sparked a Supreme Court clash as protests and threats escalate over Kamal Haasan’s new film in Karnataka. The controversy started after Haasan’s remarks on the Kannada language angered Kannada activists. Their protests quickly forced theatres to cancel screenings, which led to legal action and a heated public debate.

As the situation worsened, the Supreme Court stepped in, criticising the state for failing to protect theatres. Now, the Karnataka government promises full security for cinemas planning to screen the film. Meanwhile, tensions keep rising over freedom of expression and public safety.

Will provide security to theatres if Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Thug Life’ released in state: Karnataka in SC

The Karnataka government told the Supreme Court it would provide security to any theatre screening Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life. The assurance came after the court strongly warned the state against letting vigilantes control public spaces. “Mob and vigilantes cannot be allowed to take over streets,” the court stated, showing concern over the growing unrest.

Earlier, Kannada activists had protested Haasan’s comments about the Kannada language. As a result, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) halted the film’s release and demanded an apology from Haasan. However, activists intensified their protests by lodging police complaints and warning cinema owners against showing the film.

Supreme Court Slams State

The matter reached the Supreme Court after petitioner M Mahesh Reddy challenged the film’s non-release in Karnataka. On Tuesday, the court sharply criticised the Karnataka government for failing to prevent the disruption. The justices stressed that the state must act firmly against any group that threatens public order.

“If any threat is issued against the screening of the film, the state government will take action against divisive elements,” the court ordered.

Now, the Karnataka government promises police protection to reassure theatre owners and audiences. This growing controversy has sparked a wider debate across India about artistic freedom and how political protests can influence cinema.

</excerpt>

The Supreme Court highlighted that any films that are approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) must be screened, and ordered Karnataka to allow the screening of Kamal Haasan’s “Thug Life.” According to Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan, vigilantes and mobs cannot take over the streets or prevent approved movie screenings.

Karnataka Under Supreme Court Scrutiny

The Supreme Court examined the PIL that Mahesh Reddy filed, seeking directions after groups in Karnataka threatened to block ‘Thug Life’. These groups reacted after Kamal Haasan stated that “Kannada was born out of Tamil,” which stopped the film’s release in the state. The court ordered the Karnataka government to confirm the film’s release within one day. The bench said, “We can’t allow mobs and vigilante groups to take over the streets.”

The bench criticised the Karnataka High Court for suggesting that Haasan should apologise. The justices firmly stated that the high court had no authority to demand an apology. They explained that if Haasan’s statement was incorrect, intellectuals should openly debate and discuss it. They insisted that people must address such disagreements through dialogue, not by imposing bans or allowing extra-judicial actions that threaten legal procedures.

Haasan’s Remark Sparks Backlash

At a promotional event in Chennai, Haasan made comments that immediately triggered strong reactions in Karnataka. In response, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce declared that it would not screen ‘Thug Life’ unless Haasan issued an apology. Nevertheless, director Mani Ratnam, who reunited with Haasan after their 1987 film ‘Nayakan,’ proceeded with the nationwide release on June 5.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court transferred the related case from the Karnataka High Court to itself and scheduled a further hearing for Thursday. Moreover, the Supreme Court stressed that only the Central Board of Film Certification holds the legal authority to decide a film’s release.

It firmly stated that personal objections, public outrage, or threats must never override the certification process or block a certified film from reaching audiences.

</excerpt>

Seven people were arrested for violently attacking Karnataka civic workers who removed an unauthorized birthday banner. A viral video shows one worker being beaten with a cricket bat and beer bottles, sparking outrage.

Violence Breaks Out Following Banner Removal

A disturbing incident occurred in Karnataka after Rangappa C Herkal, a civic worker removed an unauthorised birthday banner belonging to the accused Shantu on the instructions of the municipal commissioner. The removal of the banner triggered anger and soon after that Akshata KC was accused of abusing Rangappa over the phone.

Assaults Escalate at Municipal Office

Later on June 5, six accused individuals armed with weapons barged into the municipal office and assaulted staff members. Two contract workers, Peerappa Shirabadagi and Kanthesh, were injured when struck with a scooter handle. The assailants also issued death threats. Following a complaint by Shirabadagi, police registered a case against the attackers.

Shocking Attack Captured on Video

On June 7, the violence escalated when about ten men, including Akshata KC, attacked another civic worker, Raju, inside a bar. A video that has gone viral online shows the accused thrashing Raju with a cricket bat and striking his head and face repeatedly with beer bottles.

Police have arrested seven individuals identified as Shantappa, Arjuna, Pratham, Fakkiresh Koravar, Mukesh, Prajwal, and Ganesh in connection with the violent attacks.

HAL Expansion Fuels State-Level Showdown Between Karnataka and Andhra

<excerpt>HAL’s future growth has sparked a political battle as Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh vie to host new defence facilities.
</excerpt>

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) future has ignited a political battle between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh CM, N Chandrababu Naidu has proposed the construction of a greenfield facility of HAL in his state.

Karnataka, the home state to HAL’s principal infrastructure, has reacted aggressively and swiftly in the interim. Any plan that would alter or diminish the state’s critical place in India’s defense production infrastructure has been opposed by several Karnataka ministers.

Greenfield Proposal Sparks Tensions

At a recent meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, CM Naidu offered 10,000 acres of land for a potential HAL expansion near Lepakshi in Andhra Pradesh, barely 70 km from the Karnataka border. Interestingly, he specified that he had no desire to relocate any of the existing HAL units. Instead, his intention is to create space for indigenous systems and future defence platforms such as the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

Significantly, the proposal looks inviting, sources who were present during the meeting say. Safety setbacks that are critical, and which could be harder to obtain in jammed Karnataka pockets, have sufficient space at the proposed site. Yet, the timing of the proposal and its political hue have created a lot of storm in Karnataka.

Karnataka Leaders Stand Firm

The Karnataka government has closed ranks in retort. No Chief Minister can alter HAL’s present operations in Bengaluru, said MB Patil, Large and Medium Industries Minister. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced that there would be no relocation during his tenure.

Further, Karnataka would shield HAL infrastructure at all costs, said Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. He underlined that Jawaharlal Nehru specifically selected Bengaluru for HAL because the city has a well-trained technical manpower. He also underlined HAL’s commitment to defense manufacturing by highlighting that the Congress state government had generously given land in Tumakuru for the company’s helicopter division.

Centre Silent Amid Political Heat

Karnataka leaders themselves have expressed their anger at the silence of the state’s MPs and Union Ministers. DK Shivakumar appealed to them to safeguard Karnataka’s interests and openly criticized their silence. The Medical Education and Skill Development Minister, Sharan Prakash Patil, took it one step ahead and made it clear that remaining quiet would be a betrayal of the economic interests and heritage of the state.

Worth noting is that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh sanctioned the model of execution of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project amid heightened tensions. Bengaluru remains to be the location of this critical project, with the Aeronautical Development Agency and HAL in collaboration, highlighting the city’s continued strategic importance.

Future of Tejas and AMCA at Stake

HAL is already expanding its capacity at the same time. The Indian Air Force has ordered the company to build 83 LCA Mk1A variants under a contract worth ₹6,500 crore. Also, additional land, infrastructure, and human resources will be required in the future projects like the AMCA and the Tejas Mk2.

The government will eventually have to consider other areas based on these demands. It is not clear whether that expansion goes into Andhra Pradesh or occurs in Karnataka.

Two states are in a high-stakes battle to ensure each one’s place in India’s defense manufacturing future due to the HAL expansion plan. Karnataka remains keen on retaining its long-standing position, despite the fresh chance being presented by Andhra Pradesh. The political and strategic battle is becoming more fierce as long as the Center does not take a stand.

</excerpt>

Over two months since 18 BJP MLAs were suspended from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for a period of six months, Speaker U T Khader on Sunday stated that their suspension stands lifted.

Decision Taken After High-Level Meeting

The announcement was made by Mr Khader following a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil.

In a record decision, 18 BJP MLAs were suspended for six months from the assembly on March 21 for displaying “indiscipline” and “disrespecting” the Speaker, and were physically thrown out of the House by the marshals as they declined to go.

Speaker U T Khader Explains Reason Behind Revocation

Mr Khader said, “Though I proposed the suspension, the House gave its approval through a resolution. So, today the leader of the House and Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Law Minister and Leader of the Opposition discussed with me. It has been decided to revoke the suspension and the conditions that were specified, and to allow them to function as legislators.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “The suspension has been revoked happily. There are no conditions. Those legislators are our friends and not enemies, the incident had happened in a fit of the moment. To ensure that such incidents don’t repeat, I too had to take strict action.”

Legislators Express Regret; Speaker Reaffirms Faith

He also stated the legislators realized their error and they also realized that they might not be able to attend legislative committee meetings and official visits. He explained in his role as the Speaker, it is his responsibility to safeguard the dignity of MLAs.

“I’m confident that they will not repeat such a behaviour. With that faith in them, I have revoked the suspension,” he said, adding the decision will be ratified by the House during the next session.

Backdrop: Chaos Over Muslim Reservation and “Honey-Trap” Allegations

The suspension-arising incident had taken place during the penultimate day of the assembly’s budget session; a massive protest by BJP MLAs against 4 per cent reservation to Muslims in government contracts and the call for a judicial inquiry into the alleged “honey-trap” attempt on Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna.

At the protest at that day’s assembly, BJP legislators climbed onto the podium and encircled the Speaker’s chair; a few MLAs hurled papers at the Speaker and marshals had to physically remove the BJP MLAs who encircled the Speaker’s chair.

Regret Expressed by All Sides, Says Speaker

Noting that it has been two months since the suspension, the Speaker said all legislators expressed regret about the incident and they said they did not intend to show any disrespect to the chair.

He said Ashoka too had contacted him several times on this issue and submitted a letter expressing regret and assured that such incidents would not get repeated.

“He (Ashoka) had requested to reconsider the decision aimed at allowing the legislators to perform their duties, He had also spoken to the Chief Minister and the Law Minister in this regard. Also the Governor and Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Shobha Karandlaje and other senior leaders had contacted or communicated to me in this regard,” Khader said.

Governor’s Recommendation to Lift Suspension

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had last month sent a letter to the chief minister and Speaker suggesting that the request for cancellation of suspension of 18 BJP MLAs be viewed favorably, and to take appropriate steps in this regard.

The suspended MLAs included BJP chief whip Doddanagouda Patil, former Deputy CM C N Ashwath Narayan, S R Vishwanath, B A Basavaraju, M R Patil, Channabasappa, B Suresh Gowda, Umanath Kotyan, Sharanu Salagar, Dr Shailendra Beldale, C K Ramamurthy, Yashpal Suvarna, B P Harish, Bharath Shetty, Dheeraj Muniraju, Chandru Lamani, Muniratna and Basavaraj Mattimud.

Speaker Denies Legal or Political Pressure Behind Move

When asked whether the suspension was revoked fearing a setback if they go to court, Khader said there is no need to discuss such things, and that the Speaker has certain powers. “When the situation comes, let’s discuss it. Two months of time was there, no one (MLAs) has gone anywhere,” he said.

Responding to a question whether governor’s intervention and BJP’s plans to utilise the suspension during the upcoming session led to the decision to revoke it, the Speaker said, “I don’t want to discuss it. No one can directly interfere in the Speaker’s decision. Suggestions and requests can be made. I have positively taken the suggestions made.”

BJP’s Ashoka Thanks Speaker for Revocation

Later, Ashoka in a post on ‘X’ thanked Speaker Khader for revoking the suspension of 18 MLAs.

“On this occasion, I congratulate all the 18 MLAs and party leaders who have cooperated with patience, restraint and discipline in this struggle for the last two months to restore the rights of the MLAs,” he posted on ‘X’.

</excerpt>

A 27-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her in-laws in Belagavi district of Karnataka, who then tied her to a motorcycle and dragged her about 120 feet to stage the death as an accident.

Victim Identified; Husband Had Married Again

Police said the deceased woman, identified as Renuka, was unable to conceive. Following this, her husband, Santosh Honakande a software engineer married another woman, who is currently pregnant.

Despite being asked to leave, Renuka continued to live in the same house. This reportedly triggered tension within the household. Her husband and in-laws then allegedly conspired to kill her.

Police said Santosh, along with his father Kamanna and mother Jayashree, have all been arrested in connection with the murder.

SP Calls it a “Ghastly Incident”

Belagavi SP Bheemashankar Guled termed the case as a “ghastly incident” and said the police initially received a call from the father-in-law that Renuka had met with a road accident.

Kamanna informed the police that he was driving a motorcycle, with his wife Jayashree as the first pillion rider and Renuka as the second.

When police arrived at the scene, they were suspicious and took Renuka’s body to a hospital. They opened an investigation early Sunday morning and summoned Kamanna for questioning.

Confession During Interrogation in Belagavi

“During interrogation, Kamanna failed to give logical answers, raising suspicions. Eventually, he confessed to strangling Renuka,” Guled said.

Describing how events unfolded, the police officer stated that Renuka went to a temple on Saturday night. Her in-laws later picked her up on a motorcycle.

They traveled a short distance before allegedly pushing her off the bike. When she survived the fall, they strangulated her.

Attempt to Stage Accident in Belagavi

“They then tied her to the motorcycle using her saree and dragged her for about 120 feet to stage it as an accident,” Guled said.

Within six hours, the police said it was a murder. All three accused—the husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The husband was also said to be involved in the conspiracy, said the SP, adding that there were also reports of dowry demands.

The video goes viral, showcasing positive parenting in response to academic pressure and stress.
</excerpt>

In a touching gesture of support, a family in Karnataka town Bagalkote welcomed their son’s Class 10 board exam failure by cutting a cake for him to boost his morale and encourage him to do better the next time. The boy had scored 200 marks out of a possible 625 (around 32%) and had fallen short of the minimum pass marks. But rather than feel disappointed or ashamed, his parents opted for a positive and uplifting mindset.

On a viral social media video, the family can be seen giving the boy cake with “220/625” written on it. His parents, with smiling faces, try to comfort him, assuring him not to be disheartened. His father consoles him, saying, “Don’t worry that you failed. It’s good that you tried the exam. I give you moral support to study harder now.”

His Army officer brother swiftly guided 35-40 tourists to safety. Bhat described the horrifying experience and expressed deep gratitude towards his brother and the Indian Army.
</excerpt>

An Mysuru, Karnataka-based software engineer and his family barely escaped the terror attack that hit Baisaran near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.

Prasanna Kumar Bhat, who escaped the attack, posted on X (formerly Twitter), terming it as a ‘monstrous act’ that turned the ‘heavenly beauty blood-red with hellfire’.

Bhat attributed his salvation to his brother, a senior Indian Army officer, who saved not only their lives but also that of 35–40 others in the fatal accident. He was on a holiday with his wife, brother, and sister-in-law, a holiday which had been postponed by two days because of inclement weather to cover Pahalgam in their travel plans.

Details of the Attack

On April 22, Bhat and his family arrived in Pahalgam at about 12:30 pm and traveled to Baisaran by pony ride and arrived there at about 1:35 pm. Sharing his experience, Bhat tweeted, “We went in through the main gate like the rest of the people and headed towards one of the cafes installed on the left side of the entrance. We were impressed by the grand view and the scenery and savored it with a cup of tea and kawa.”

At about 2 pm, the family sat down to walk around and take pictures, happily steering away from the entrance. Soon, there was gunfire.

“Barely after a few minutes we could hear the first 2 gun shots clearly at about 02:25 pm. Then came an ear piercing silence of a min and everybody was just trying to understand what just happened and all the kids running around who were playing had not stopped and enjoyed the life best picnic till that moment,” said Bhat in his post.

He noted that many present might have been hearing the sound of an AK-47 for the first time. Reacting swiftly, Bhat and his family took cover behind a mobile toilet. “I could see two bodies on the ground already. My brother knew right away that it was a terrorist attack. Then the hellfire erupted, the bursts of gunshots and the commotion. There was a cacophony of the crowd screaming at the top of their lungs and running for their lives,” he wrote.

Saved by a Hidden Pit

As per Bhat, Baisaran’s fencing limited escape paths. “So most of the crowd ran to the gate to escape where the terrorists were already waiting, like sheeps running to the tiger,” he said.

He further stated that a terrorist even came towards their side, but they were able to locate a drainage pipe entrance under a fence and slid through it to escape in the opposite direction.

“My brother (Army officer) and his wife found refuge near the mobile toilet. He managed to pacify the other individuals around him. He took stock of the situation within minutes and realized fire was emanating from the entrance side. So he led us and 35-40 tourists in the opposite direction,” Bhat said.

After they slipped through the fence, they descended a muddy, slippery slope alongside a water stream. “As it was a slope with a water stream running, there was some degree of protection from direct line of sight. It was extremely slippery to run along the muddy slope, but a lot slipped but were able to run for their lives,” Bhat added.

They then took shelter in a pit under the trees some hundred meters from the main site. “We four were able to find an cover in a small pit under the trees a few hundred metres from the spot desperately praying for our lives,” he wrote, calling the hour spent there one of terror and helplessness.

Rescue Efforts

Meanwhile, Bhat’s brother was able to alert a unit based in Pahalgam and the Army headquarters in Srinagar at 2:45 pm. Until then, they huddled in fear, unsure if they should remain there or take a chance to run further.

The rescue efforts began at 3:40 pm with the sounds of helicopters. By 4 pm, Army and Special Forces were on the perimeter.

“They saw us and, since they knew that we were foreigners, they promised us that the whole perimeter was guarded by the Army and it was safe for us to proceed down the hill. We were still in a state of shock, our brains and senses were numb by this time while only the gunshots and the horror kept repeating in our mind,” Bhat explained.

Witnessing the bloodied victims being taken away, Bhat conveyed the internal conflict they were experiencing. “We saw the affected people drenched in blood being taken down and a mix of thoughts and emotions and yet unable to believe what transpired in the last 2 hours,” he posted.

Crying out in anguish over the senseless killing of innocent lives, Bhat stated, “The gun shots still ring in our ears, and the fear still turns my stomach. This will be a permanent scar, an unrepealable memory of what Kashmir’s beauty conceals beneath. It hurts to see this being done in our nation.”

Gratitude to Indian Army

Bhat conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to his brother and the Indian Army, stating, “because of whom we are alive to narrate this incident personally and be reunited with our family.”

Now recovered from the traumatizing experience, safely back in Mysuru, Bhat and his family are reunited.

In the meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has handed over the probe of the Pahalgam terror attack to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

</excerpt>

A dramatic altercation in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district has sparked outrage online after a video emerged showing a police sub-inspector and a BJP leader physically slapping each other during a midnight confrontation.

What Happened?

According to reports by NDTV, a group of people had gathered on Durgada Siri Hotel Road around midnight on Friday. In an attempt to disperse the crowd, PSI Gadilingappa instructed the group to go home. However, the situation quickly escalated when BJP leader Hanumanta Gowda, the Madhugiri district president, began verbally abusing the officer. The disagreement soon turned physical: Gadilingappa responded by slapping Gowda, prompting the BJP leader to retaliate with a series of slaps.

The incident was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and condemnation.

Political Reactions and Accusations

BJP’s state unit chief B. Y. Vijayendra took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the video, sharply criticizing both the current law and order situation and the behavior of police officers. In his post, Vijayendra blamed the ruling Congress for a breakdown in public safety, citing rising cases of murder, extortion, robbery, and rape since the party came to power. He also attacked what he described as police brutality by low-level officers and labeled the actions of PSI Gadilingappa as “hooliganism” against their party’s district president.

Vijayendra further accused certain police officers of being puppets for powerful politicians, implying that their misconduct was politically motivated. He warned that if no immediate action was taken, including the suspension of PSI Gadilingappa, the BJP would join forces with citizens to restore respect for the police department.

Diverging Perspectives

While many netizens express their discontent with the incident, opinions remain divided. Supporters of the BJP leader laud his boldness in confronting the officer, while critics argue that such incidents undermine the professionalism of law enforcement and contribute to a deteriorating law and order environment. Some observers note that the altercation may reflect deeper political rivalries and tensions between the ruling Congress and opposition parties in Karnataka.

The incident has fueled discussions on social media regarding appropriate conduct by both government officials and political leaders. Some users question whether such confrontations are symptomatic of larger systemic issues within the state’s administration, while others condemn the violence as an unacceptable breach of decorum.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have registered counter-complaints from both sides as the investigation unfolds. The local police are scrutinizing the incident to determine the precise sequence of events and any potential political motives behind the clash. With the video rapidly circulating online, officials are under pressure to ensure accountability and restore public confidence in the police force.

The Broader Context

This incident in Chitradurga is not an isolated event; it comes amid increasing criticism of law enforcement practices and political interference in Karnataka. With accusations of police brutality and political favoritism becoming more frequent, many are calling for comprehensive reforms to ensure that public officials maintain decorum and uphold the dignity of their positions.

As the investigation continues, all eyes remain on Chitradurga, with citizens and political leaders alike demanding swift action to prevent future occurrences of such confrontations

</excerpt>

A startling case of alleged gold smuggling has rocked the film industry in Karnataka. Ranya Rao, a popular Kannada actress, was arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Wednesday after authorities intercepted her carrying gold bars worth approximately ₹12.56 crore, weighing nearly 15 kilograms.

Incident Details

Rao, reportedly the stepdaughter of senior Karnataka IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, is accused of smuggling gold from Dubai. According to sources, she traveled to Dubai around 30 times in the past year, allegedly bringing back kilograms of gold on each trip. Intelligence reports, as cited by India Today, claim that she was paid roughly ₹1 lakh per kilogram, earning around ₹12-13 lakh per trip. Investigations further revealed that Rao repeatedly used modified jackets and waist belts to hide the gold, a method she employed during her frequent travels.

Arrest and Recovery

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had Rao under surveillance due to her unusually frequent trips to Dubai. On her return last Wednesday, just as she was about to clear airport security, DRI officials intercepted her. During the frisking, authorities recovered the concealed gold bars from her modified jacket. The total assets seized in the case have now been valued at around ₹17.29 crore, including additional items worth ₹4.73 crore.

Family Reaction

The arrest has sent shockwaves through Rao’s family. Her stepfather, Ramachandra Rao, a senior IPS officer, expressed his disbelief and devastation upon learning of the incident through media reports. “I was shocked and devastated when I heard about this. She is not living with us, and there must be family issues that led to this situation. Nevertheless, the law will take its course, and my career remains untarnished,” he said.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the smuggling operation. With Rao’s extensive travel history and the sophisticated methods used to conceal the gold, investigators are looking into potential accomplices and other facets of the scheme. The case continues to evolve, with new details emerging as the investigation proceeds.

</excerpt>

The health and safety of the public is a matter of great importance, and recent developments in Karnataka have highlighted two significant concerns: the lack of regulation surrounding tattooing and the use of polythene sheets in food preparation. Both issues have raised alarms regarding potential health risks, with the state’s health and food safety departments actively working to address these concerns.

Tattooing: A Growing Concern

The Karnataka health department has announced its intention to seek national-level regulations for tattooing, a practice that has gained considerable popularity over the years. The push for regulation follows troubling findings regarding the safety of tattoo inks being used in the state. According to health officials, many tattoo inks contain harmful heavy metals and chemicals, posing risks to health and safety. Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao addressed these concerns during a press conference, revealing that tattooing, despite its widespread popularity, operates without any formal oversight. There are currently no regulations on the use of tattoo inks, many of which may contain harmful substances such as heavy metals and residual solvents.

Tattoo ink, which is directly injected into the skin, can potentially carry harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi if the inks are contaminated or if proper hygiene standards are not followed in tattoo studios. This has raised questions about the safety of the practice and the potential for serious health complications. A recent study conducted by Karnataka’s food safety and drugs administration found that tattoo ink samples collected from across the state contained dangerous substances, including arsenic, chromium, selenium, and platinum, among others. These heavy metals, if absorbed by the body, can lead to long-term health issues, such as organ damage and neurological problems.

According to officials, the high concentration of these harmful metals and solvents in tattoo inks poses a serious risk to individuals, particularly as there are currently no guidelines on the permissible levels of these substances. In addition to the potential for harmful chemicals, concerns have also been raised about the sterility of tattoo needles and the lack of hygiene standards in many tattoo parlours. A single ink container is often used for multiple customers, which increases the risk of contamination. The failure of some studios to meet basic aseptic standards further exacerbates the issue.

Given the serious health risks associated with these unsafe tattooing practices, the Karnataka health department has taken proactive steps. Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has directed the food safety commissioner to formally request that the Union health ministry introduce national regulations governing tattooing. This would include licensing requirements for tattoo artists and studios, as well as strict guidelines on the safety and sterility of tattoo inks and equipment. The health department is calling for clear regulations to protect consumers from the potential dangers of tattooing, especially given the lack of oversight in the current system.

A Broader Look at Tattooing Safety

Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940, the term “cosmetic” is defined as any substance applied to the body for beautification or altering appearance. Tattoo ink technically falls under this definition. However, the ink has not yet been officially classified as a cosmetic product, which has contributed to the lack of regulations surrounding its use. This regulatory gap has made it difficult for authorities to ensure that tattoo inks and the tattooing process meet safety standards.

Minister Rao emphasized the urgency of introducing regulations that would establish clear guidelines for the tattoo industry. “Clear guidelines must be established to ensure that the products used in tattooing do not pose a risk to public health,” he said. The health department’s initiative to introduce regulations on tattooing aims to bring this practice under formal oversight, much like other industries that involve direct interaction with the human body.

With a growing number of people opting for tattoos, especially among the younger population, the lack of safety regulations and the presence of harmful substances in tattoo inks have raised legitimate concerns. The push for regulation aims to safeguard consumers and ensure that tattoo parlours adhere to hygiene standards to prevent infections and other health complications.

Food Safety: Polythene Sheets in Idli Preparation

In addition to the tattooing concerns, the Karnataka food safety department has recently raised alarms about the use of polythene sheets in the preparation of idlis, a staple in the region’s cuisine. Idlis are traditionally steamed in cloth, but reports revealed that some restaurants had switched to using plastic sheets. This practice, according to health officials, poses significant health risks, primarily due to the carcinogenic properties of plastic.

Minister Rao explained that food safety department officials had collected idli samples from 251 locations across Karnataka to investigate the use of plastic in food preparation. It was discovered that 52 restaurants were using plastic sheets to prepare idlis, which raised serious concerns about food safety. The use of plastic in food preparation is particularly dangerous because harmful chemicals from the plastic can leach into food during the cooking process. These chemicals, when consumed, can pose long-term health risks, including an increased risk of cancer.

The findings of the food safety department have led to immediate action. Minister Rao assured the public that the government would enforce a strict ban on the use of plastic in food preparation. Restaurants that continue to use plastic sheets will face penalties, and the public has been encouraged to report such practices to the authorities. The health minister emphasized that the use of plastic in food preparation is not only a violation of food safety standards but also a threat to public health.

Ensuring Public Health and Safety

The recent developments in Karnataka highlight the state’s commitment to ensuring public health and safety. The health department’s initiative to seek regulations on tattooing and the food safety department’s crackdown on the use of plastic in food preparation are part of a broader effort to protect the public from harmful practices. With these steps, Karnataka is taking a proactive approach to addressing emerging health risks and ensuring that businesses adhere to safety standards.

The concerns raised over tattooing and food safety are not unique to Karnataka, but the state’s response sets a valuable precedent for other regions to follow. As tattooing continues to grow in popularity, it is essential that regulations be put in place to ensure that it is performed safely and hygienically. Similarly, the use of plastic in food preparation is a widespread issue that requires immediate attention, as it poses a serious threat to public health.

Karnataka’s decision to address these issues head-on underscores the importance of regulatory oversight in industries that directly impact public health. By introducing clear guidelines and enforcing strict standards, the state aims to protect consumers from the potential risks associated with these practices. The collaboration between the health and food safety departments is a positive step toward safeguarding the well-being of the people of Karnataka.

As Karnataka moves forward with its plans to introduce regulations on tattooing and enforce a ban on plastic in food preparation, it is setting an important example for other states to follow. These actions are crucial in addressing growing health concerns and ensuring that businesses adhere to safety standards. With the support of the Union health ministry and national-level regulations, Karnataka’s efforts will help establish a safer environment for consumers and reduce the risks associated with these practices.

The initiative is a timely reminder of the need for regulatory frameworks that can adapt to emerging health risks. Whether it is the safety of tattoo inks or the use of plastic in food preparation, Karnataka is leading the way in addressing these concerns and protecting the health of its citizens. As the state continues to push for regulatory action, it will help pave the way for safer practices in the future.

</excerpt>

The flickering shadows of a centuries-old tradition come alive on a modest stage in Karnataka, where Bhimavva Doddabalappa Shillekyathara holds the delicate strings of her Gombayetta shadow puppets. Her fingers glide effortlessly, breathing life into epic tales of the Ramayana and Mahabharata. At 91 years of age, she still captivates audiences with a craft that has been her life’s purpose for over seven decades. Bhimavva’s unwavering dedication to preserving this ancient art form is not just a testament to her love for tradition but also a reminder of the cultural treasures that lie in the heart of India.

In a small village in Chhattisgarh, Pandi Ram Mandavi, a wood carver from the Gond Muria tribe, transforms humble pieces of wood into melodious bastar flutes, each carrying whispers of tribal melodies and the soul of his community. With over 50 years of devotion, Mandavi’s creations serve as both instruments of music and symbols of his tribe’s vibrant heritage.

Meanwhile, in the quiet alleys of Bhojpur, Bhim Singh, a journalist, has spent his life amplifying the unheard voices of the Musahar community—one of the most marginalized groups in India. His relentless pursuit of justice and empowerment through journalism has transformed lives and inspired many.

These are just a few among the many extraordinary individuals honored with the Padma Awards this year, a recognition that has evolved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to truly celebrate India’s unsung heroes. The awards, once perceived as exclusive to elites, now embrace the diversity and spirit of the nation—honoring individuals from humble beginnings and diverse fields who have made a profound impact on society.
The #PeoplesPadma exemplifies Jan Bhagidari in building a New India. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these prestigious awards have transcended traditional boundaries of fame, power, and privilege, becoming a celebration of merit, dedication, and selfless service. By opening the nomination process to the public, the awards have become a true people’s movement, unearthing unsung heroes from all walks of life. This inclusive approach transcends political lines, exemplified by honoring leaders like Sharad Pawar, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Pranab Mukherjee, and Tarun Gogoi under the Modi government—a testament to statesmanship and the spirit of democracy.
The awards also highlight India’s harmonious ethos. Batool Begum, a singer from the marginalized Mirasi community, broke stereotypes by performing Ganpati and Ram bhajans, showcasing how art unites beyond religion. Women’s contributions have gained prominence as well, with Sally Holkar empowering over 250 women weavers and Gokul Chandra Das training women in the traditionally male-dominated art of Dhak playing. At the same time, trailblazers like Neerja Bhatla in cervical cancer prevention and Justice J.S. Khehar, the first Sikh Chief Justice of India, embody excellence in science, medicine, and law. These awards, now a symbol of inclusivity and merit, inspire a New India where greatness knows no boundaries.

Under the Congress regime, the Padma Awards were often viewed as a means to reward the pliable “who’s who” of society—those from elite and influential circles who sang praises of the government. The process was criticized for lacking inclusivity and transparency, with the focus seemingly more on connections than contributions. In stark contrast, the Modi government has made it a priority to honor unsung heroes whose dedication has impacted lives across the nation. In 2016, figures released by the government highlighted how, under Congress rule, there was a disproportionate skew in the distribution of awards, favoring a few states and regions. This imbalance has since been corrected, ensuring fair representation across the country. The broad-basing efforts have democratized the process, breaking away from the elitism of the past.

Additionally, while the Congress party and its scion Rahul Gandhi never miss an opportunity to target corporates and wealth creators, often framing them as exploitative, the Modi government has taken a markedly different approach. The recent conferral of the Padma Vibhushan to the late Osamu Suzuki, former chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, is a case in point. Suzuki’s revolutionary contributions to India’s automotive sector brought affordable small cars to millions of Indian families, a move that not only transformed lives but also created jobs and boosted the economy. This stands as a testament to the government’s recognition of wealth creators as vital pillars of nation-building.

The democratization of the Padma Awards under the Modi administration extends beyond mere recognition. Initiatives like the Padma Quiz, which allows winners to attend the prestigious ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and the ‘Wall of Wishes,’ where citizens can send personalized messages to awardees, have transformed the awards into a people’s movement. Ministries and departments have been tasked with identifying deserving individuals, with a particular emphasis on women, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), divyangjan, and other marginalized communities. This effort ensures the recognition of real contributors from every corner of the nation, irrespective of their social or economic standing.

The Padma Awards today are truly reflective of the spirit of a New India—an India that celebrates its diversity, values hard work, and recognizes contributions across all walks of life.

His unconventional commute went viral, with netizens calling it a peak Bengaluru moment.
</excerpt>

Bengaluru’s infamous traffic and ride-hailing struggles often leave commuters frustrated, but one individual found a unique workaround. Instead of waiting endlessly for an Uber or Ola, social media user Pathik took matters into his own hands—by booking a ride through Porter, an app primarily designed for transporting goods.

In a now-viral post, Pathik shared a photo of himself riding pillion on a Porter two-wheeler, with the delivery partner in front and the app’s branding visible on his helmet. His witty caption read, “Had to porter myself to office today because no Ola, Uber.”

Since being posted on February 6, the tweet has amassed over 32,000 views, with users hailing it as a “peak Bengaluru moment.”

Social Media Reactions

Pathik’s unconventional commute sparked a wave of amusement, with many calling his idea “genius” and “the most Bengaluru thing ever.” Several users admitted they had considered similar hacks but never acted on them. Others suggested alternative strategies, like adjusting work hours to avoid peak traffic congestion.

In another bizarre traffic-related incident, a commuter stuck on a Bengaluru flyover was surprised when Rapido sent him a safety check message. His auto-rickshaw had remained stationary for an extended period due to gridlock, prompting the app’s automated alert system to check on him.

With Bengaluru’s traffic woes showing no signs of improvement, creative solutions like these continue to entertain and resonate with netizens.

</excerpt>

Bidar, Karnataka: In a shocking incident, a gang of robbers shot dead a guard, seriously injured another, and looted an ATM cash vehicle in broad daylight in Karnataka’s Bidar city on Thursday.

The incident occurred in front of the State Bank of India (SBI) Main Branch in Bidar city, with the robbers escaping with Rs 93 lakh in cash from ATM cash vehicle.

The robbers, who were following the vehicle, attacked the cash van in front of the bank where an ATM was also located. One of the guards in the vehicle, Giri Venkatesh, died on the spot after being shot, while another guard, Shivakumar, sustained critical injuries. Doctors said that Shivakumar’s condition was extremely critical. Before opening fire, the robbers threw chilli powder on the faces of the guards, the police said.

According to police, two masked robbers fired five rounds at the ATM vehicle and guards. Following the attack, they made off with Rs 93 lakh in cash. Bidar Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Gunti rushed to the scene and was overseeing the investigation.

The attack occurred while the ATM was being filled with cash at Shivaji Chowk, located in the heart of Bidar city. The injured guard, Shivakumar, is being treated at the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).

The robbers, who were riding two motorcycles, carried out the attack, took the cash box, and fled. Although locals raised an alarm, threw stones at them, and attempted to catch them, the robbers managed to dodge and escape.

Sources revealed that both Giri Venkatesh and Shivakumar were employees of CMS Agency, a company that provides ATM cash-filling services.

According to the cops, the robbers were dressed in black jackets and hats, carried backpacks during the attack. Police have obtained CCTV footage of the incident and launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprits.

Tension gripped the area after the attack and the loot.

No Immediate Concern, Say Health Authorities

Amid speculations about the spread of HMPV in China, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has assured the public that there is “nothing to be alarmed about.” According to Doordarshan, health authorities have emphasised that there is no immediate threat posed by the virus in India at this time.

A Call for Enhanced Monitoring and Research

Despite the reassurances, Karnataka health officials are calling for increased surveillance and research into the virus. The detection of HMPV in Bengaluru underlines the need to remain vigilant and prepared for potential outbreaks, especially given the virus‘s impact on vulnerable populations.

As the probe goes on, health officials will get a deeper insight into howHMPV spreads and possible effects on public health, more specifically among younger children and immuno-compromised patients.

</excerpt>

A rare glimpse into the past has captured the hearts of music lovers and fans of Kannada icon Dr. Rajkumar. A vintage pamphlet from his 1986 concert at Bengaluru’s Tennis Stadium, Cubbon Park, has resurfaced on social media, igniting a wave of nostalgia and admiration.

The Event and Unbelievable Ticket Prices

The concert, a major cultural event of its time, featured Dr. Rajkumar performing some of his most beloved songs. Ticket prices ranged from ₹30 to ₹200, a stark contrast to today’s event pricing. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) were quick to share their reactions, marveling at the affordability of tickets and reminiscing about the legend’s unmatched legacy.

One user wrote, “I would pay ₹2,000 in a heartbeat for a concert featuring only Annavru’s songs,” highlighting the timeless appeal of the legendary performer. Others reflected on the ticket prices, with one remarking, “Wasn’t ₹200 too much back then? I could have bought a plot of land instead!” Another defended the costs, saying, “Forget the price, see the intention. Personalities of that caliber are rare today.”

HAVE A LOOK AT THE POST:

A Cultural Icon Beyond Cinema

Dr. Rajkumar, affectionately known as “Annavru” in Karnataka, remains a towering figure in Kannada cinema and culture. Born as Singanalluru Puttaswamaiah Muthuraj on April 24, 1929, he starred in over 200 films during a career that spanned five decades. Known for his versatility, he played roles ranging from mythological figures to socially significant characters, earning accolades such as the Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

In addition to his cinematic achievements, Dr. Rajkumar was an accomplished singer whose devotional songs continue to inspire millions. His legacy transcends entertainment, embodying the cultural ethos of Karnataka.

Fans Reflect on Simpler Times

Many fans drew comparisons between the concert’s ticket prices and movie rates of the time. “Even ₹30 feels enormous,” one user noted. “For perspective, Gandhi class for a movie back then was less than ₹1. Around 1990, I paid ₹1.50 for a tent cinema.”

The viral resurgence of the 1986 pamphlet is a testament to Dr. Rajkumar’s enduring legacy. His unmatched talent, humility, and cultural contributions continue to resonate, reminding fans of an era where art and authenticity took center stage.

</excerpt>

Karnataka has reported 348 maternal deaths as of November this year, with a significant rise in fatalities between August and November, accounting for 217 of the total deaths.

As per a report by The New Indian Express, a noticeable increase in maternal mortality has been seen in government hospitals, where 179 deaths were recorded, while private facilities reported 38. The state’s healthcare system is now under scrutiny, with experts pointing to systemic issues beyond the previously blamed use of certain IV fluids like Ringer’s Lactate, which had been associated with deaths in Ballari.

Between August and November, the state saw more than 50 maternal deaths per month, raising concerns among medical professionals. Although Ringer’s Lactate faced scrutiny after the deaths, specialists caution against oversimplifying the issue.

Complications such as postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), the leading cause of death, and amniotic fluid embolism (AFE), a rare but severe condition causing cardiovascular collapse, are key contributors to maternal mortality.

Over 3,000 deaths in the past five years

In the last five years, Karnataka has witnessed over 3,350 maternal deaths, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). However, the number of fatalities has decreased during this period, based on government data.

The release of this data follows the recent controversy surrounding maternal deaths in Ballari district. The total maternal deaths in the past five years stand at 3,364, with the highest number occurring during the Covid-19 pandemic when the BJP was in power. In 2019-2020, 662 maternal deaths were recorded, rising slightly to 714 the next year. However, these numbers have since declined, with 595 deaths in 2021-2022, 527 in 2022-2023, and 518 in 2023-2024.

As of November 2024, Karnataka’s maternal mortality toll stands at 348, with a Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of 64 per one lakh live births.

In response to the situation, the Karnataka government has set up a four-member panel to investigate the recent maternal deaths at Ballari Hospital and other locations across the state.

A viral clip features a person pressing the abdomen of a chicken, causing what seems like fire to emerge from its mouth.
</excerpt>

In a puzzling incident, a village in Karnataka witnessed the mysterious deaths of 12 chickens, followed by a bizarre occurrence where their bodies appeared to emit flames when pressed. A viral video of the event shows lifeless chickens lying on the ground, with smoke rising from their bodies.

The clip features a person pressing the abdomen of a chicken, causing what seems like fire to emerge from its mouth. The video, which quickly gained traction online, was shared with claims that applying pressure to the chickens’ bodies triggered the phenomenon. However, HT.com was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the footage.

The incident reportedly took place on December 18 in Hadige village, Sakleshpur, Karnataka, according to a report by Udayavani. The chickens belonged to a villager named Ravi, who found them dead under unexplained circumstances.

The video has garnered over 17 million views on X, sparking a flurry of stunned reactions and debates about its authenticity. While some questioned whether the footage was genuine or fabricated, others speculated about the possible causes of the phenomenon.

One user on X theorised, “Wondering whether the chickens might have ingested some form of toxic substance that could cause an exothermic reaction when their bodies were manipulated. There have been instances where chemicals, perhaps mistakenly or intentionally introduced into poultry feed, have led to unusual outcomes.” Another commenter suggested, “The phenomenon of chickens emitting fire could be linked to a reaction involving gases or chemicals within the dead birds’ bodies, especially if pressure was applied.”

Not everyone was convinced, with one user stating, “I don’t know if it’s real or not.”

Ravi, the owner of the chickens, has appealed to authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Udayavani reported that he hopes to uncover the cause behind the mysterious deaths and the strange occurrence that followed.

The state government assured action to resolve concerns, including withdrawal of notices for temples.
</excerpt>

The Karnataka government disclosed that 81% of the 11,204 farmers who received notices from the Waqf Board over land encroachment are Muslim. Only 2,080 farmers from the Hindu community were affected, sparking political debates in the state.

Government’s Assurance to Farmers and Temples

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the formation of a committee led by a retired high court judge to examine whether temples and lands cultivated by farmers fall under waqf assets. He assured the Karnataka Assembly that:

Notices issued to temples on waqf properties would be withdrawn.

Farmers cultivating waqf-designated lands would not face arbitrary action.

Clarifications on Waqf Land Data

Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda provided key insights into the waqf land distribution:

Of Karnataka’s 20,000 acres of waqf land, only 4,500 acres are cultivable.

Cultivable waqf land constitutes just 0.006% of the state’s total agricultural land.

The waqf land inventory has significantly reduced from 1.12 lakh acres in 1974 to 20,054 acres today due to redistribution under the Land Revenue Act and Inam Abolition Act.

Political Clash in the Assembly

The BJP staged a walkout during the Assembly session, demanding answers from Housing, Waqf, and Minority Affairs Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan. They also called for the withdrawal of the 1974 gazette notification that formalized waqf land data.

CM Siddaramaiah refuted the BJP’s demands, clarifying that the notification was based on the Central Waqf Act, which cannot be altered by the state government. Revenue Minister Gowda accused the BJP of spreading misinformation about Muslims encroaching on Hindu land to polarize public opinion.

A Heated Debate Continues

The waqf land issue has intensified political tensions in Karnataka, with both ruling and opposition parties trading accusations. While the government assures corrective measures, the opposition demands more transparency and accountability in addressing the waqf land controversy.

Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving issue.

Reflecting on Karnataka’s development between 2013 and 2018, he highlighted its dominance in tax collection and economic advancement during this period. “These programs have greatly contributed to our success, helping Karnataka achieve around 51 per cent GDP growth during this period,” Lad said, referring to the “Five Guarantees” and other welfare schemes that have driven the state’s growth.

He pointed to initiatives like mid-day meals, Anganwadi services, widow pensions, and old-age pensions as transformative measures.

Further detailing the state’s achievements, Lad shared that farmers have benefited from interest-free loans of up to Rs 3 lakh, with Rs 9.5 crore allocated for this initiative. Additionally, farm loans worth Rs 8,165 crore have been waived. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities have received loan waivers and grants amounting to Rs 80,000 crore, while gram panchayats have been allocated Rs 3,700 crore. Under the Ashraya housing scheme, Rs 2,633 crore has been set aside, and over Rs 18,000 crore was spent from 2013 to 2018 to support the poor.

</excerpt>

In an extraordinary and rare encounter, a King Cobra and a dog were seen battling it out on a farm in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district. The dramatic incident, which took place on Monday, was captured in a nearly seven-minute-long video that has since gone viral. The footage shows the venomous snake charging at the dog, only for the dog to retaliate fiercely in defense.

The confrontation begins with the King Cobra slithering towards the dog, seemingly preparing to strike. However, the dog, not intimidated by the threat, responds aggressively by lunging at the snake. Despite several attempts by the cobra to strike, it is unable to land a successful bite on the dog, thanks to the dog’s quick reflexes and persistent attacks.

At one point, a second dog enters the scene and cautiously approaches the snake, but quickly retreats, likely sensing the danger. Meanwhile, the first dog continues its relentless assault on the cobra, eventually overpowering it. The snake, unable to fend off the dog’s attacks, succumbs to the repeated strikes and dies.

Rare interaction between a King Cobra and a dog has sparked significant attention online

This rare interaction between a King Cobra and a dog has sparked significant attention online. King Cobras are known to be one of the most venomous snakes in the world, capable of killing prey with a single bite. The dog’s victory is seen as exceptional, as such confrontations are typically dangerous for animals, especially when facing a predator of this magnitude.

The video has raised awareness about the presence of venomous snakes in agricultural areas, where human-wildlife interactions are common. Local authorities have stressed the importance of addressing human-snake conflicts in rural areas to prevent further incidents.

While the encounter was dramatic, it also serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between humans, animals, and wildlife, highlighting the need for increased awareness and respect for nature.

</excerpt>

As Delhi continues to struggle with deteriorating air quality, a fresh debate has sparked on social media about what constitutes the best city in India. The conversation was ignited by a viral post from a user on X (formerly Twitter), who proposed a vision for the “most amazing city” by combining the best features of three top Indian cities: Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru.

The Dream City Vision

The X user’s post suggested, “IMO, the most amazing city of India will have people of Mumbai, infra of Delhi, and weather of Bangalore (Bengaluru).” The concept quickly caught fire, generating a lively discussion among netizens. Many agreed that blending Mumbai’s vibrant energy, Delhi’s modern infrastructure, and Bengaluru’s pleasant weather could create the perfect urban environment.

HAVE A LOOK AT THE VIRAL POST:

I don’t think I can raise my (imaginary, for now) kid(s) in NCR (Air) or MMR or BLR (Water)

What are my options now?

— Aditya Behere (@BehereBaba) November 18, 2024

However, not everyone was on board with the idea. Some users humorously pointed out the challenges of creating this ‘utopian’ city. One user suggested the ideal city should also feature “a 2-hour drive to Goa-like beaches and Ladakh-like landscapes,” while another emphasized the importance of including Hyderabad’s renowned food culture.

The Ideal City: Diverse Opinions

The debate continued with users offering their own vision of the best city. One user declared, “The best city of India is Bombay. There, fixed it,” while another argued, “I think Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar tick all of these boxes.”

In a lighter vein, someone joked about the infrastructure in Gurgaon, stating, “Infra of Gurgaon, to be more precise,” highlighting how diverse and subjective the idea of an ideal city can be.

Delhi’s Air Pollution Comparison: Bengaluru Takes the Lead

Amidst the ongoing air pollution crisis in Delhi-NCR, which has seen the city’s air quality index (AQI) exceed hazardous levels, comparisons with Bengaluru’s cleaner air took a humorous turn on social media. As Bengaluru’s AQI remains well below 100, one X user, Sagar, posted a witty comment: “Smoking in Bengaluru is healthier than doing yoga in Delhi.”

This playful remark quickly went viral, adding humor to the ongoing discussions about Delhi’s air quality. The post also prompted many to urge the Delhi government to take swift action to address the pollution and protect public health.

Rising Calls for Action

While some users responded to the post with laughter, others took the opportunity to raise serious concerns about Delhi’s air quality. With memes and jokes making the rounds, there’s a growing call for greater governmental attention to combat the worsening air pollution in the capital.

As the debate over India’s “best city” continues to trend online, the air crisis in Delhi remains a pressing issue, prompting both serious and light-hearted responses on social media.

An overwhelming number of devotees tried to climb the hill for darshan, or a religious viewing of the deity.

Crowds Lead to Dangerous Conditions

The Deviramma Jatra is an important celebration for many local and regional worshippers. This year, the temple saw its usual influx of attendees. Unfortunately, the crowd management system could not handle the large number of people. As a result, many devotees pushed forward eagerly. This led to some slipping, falling, and getting trampled in the rush. Consequently, several individuals were injured.

Quick Response from Authorities

Local authorities and temple management acted quickly to address the situation. Emergency services arrived to assist the injured. Some received treatment for minor injuries on-site, while others needed to go to local hospitals for further care.

Health Services on High Alert

The local health infrastructure went on high alert to ensure that those with serious injuries got prompt medical attention. Emergency responders worked diligently to provide the necessary support and care during this chaotic event.

</excerpt>

In India, sweets are integral to celebrations, whether for passing exams or acquiring a new car, as no festivity is complete without a box of mithai. While North India has its unique array of sweet treats, the South is renowned for its delightful desserts, with Mysore Pak standing out among them. This melt-in-your-mouth delicacy is crafted using gram flour and an abundance of ghee.

Recently, food vlogger @foodie_incarnate filmed the process of making Mysore Pak at a shop in Karnataka, and the video has gone viral, attracting over 8 million views. The clip shows cooks adding gram flour and ghee to a churning machine, gradually incorporating more ghee as they mix. After adding sugar and additional ghee, the mixture is churned until it achieves a bouncy, shiny consistency. It is then spread onto food trays and flattened with a rolling pin. Once set, the sweet is cut into smaller pieces for packing and sale.
