</excerpt>

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a firm stand in the ongoing controversy surrounding the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment scam, vehemently rejecting any notion of resignation. The alleged scam, which has now drawn the attention of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Lokayukta, revolves around 14 plots in Mysuru’s Vijayanagar area that were allotted to his wife, Parvathi Siddaramaiah, as compensation for family land used by MUDA.

Siddaramaiah has differentiated his situation from that of former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, whose case involved land denotification, maintaining that his case does not involve any such actions. He also emphasized that his wife’s actions were meant to avoid any controversy, stating that she never sought the plots in Vijayanagar specifically, and the current situation has been inflated into a political drama by opposition parties. Siddaramaiah affirmed his commitment to fighting the accusations legally, calling them politically motivated.

The controversy heated up after the ED initiated a money laundering probe, registering an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Siddaramaiah under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). This move followed allegations of irregularities in the allotment of the 14 land sites, valued at Rs 56 crore, to his wife Parvathi. As the case escalated, Parvathi decided to return the plots to MUDA, a move that she explained was motivated by her desire to protect her husband’s political integrity and avoid further public scrutiny.

Parvathi Siddaramaiah’s decision came as a surprise to many, including her own family. She has maintained that the land was compensation for the family’s 3.16-acre property in Kesare, Mysuru, which was used by MUDA without proper acquisition. Despite the legal rights to the land, she voluntarily surrendered the 14 sites, stating that no personal material gain could outweigh her husband’s honor and integrity. In her letter to MUDA, Parvathi expressed her distress over the political fallout, stressing that the situation had become more about preserving her husband’s reputation than about the land itself.

On social media, Siddaramaiah expressed both surprise and support for his wife’s decision, condemning the political vendetta against his family. He has reiterated that the opposition is fabricating lies to defame him and drag his family into the controversy for political gain. The Karnataka CM asserted that he had no role in the allotment of the sites, and his wife’s decision was made independently.

The situation has triggered a wave of political reactions, with the Karnataka BJP labeling Parvathi’s decision as a political stunt aimed at garnering public sympathy for Siddaramaiah. They argue that the timing of the surrender points to an admission of guilt, even as Siddaramaiah and his supporters continue to deny any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil criticized the ED’s involvement, stating that their pursuit of the case would ultimately be a blunder, further intensifying the political clashes in the state.

As investigations by both the ED and Lokayukta continue, the future of the case remains uncertain, but Siddaramaiah’s firm stance and Parvathi’s unexpected surrender of the plots have added further layers of complexity to an already heated political situation.

</excerpt>

On Friday, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police filed an FIR, naming Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as the first accused in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam. This significant development comes just 48 hours after a special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru directed the Mysuru Lokayukta SP to file an FIR, investigate, and submit a report against CM Siddaramaiah, his wife, and his brother-in-law in connection with the scam.

CM Siddaramaiah has also been booked under provisions of the IPC and the Prohibition of Benami Transactions and Land Grabbing Acts. The petitioner in the MUDA scam case, RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna, has registered a complaint identifying Siddaramaiah as the prime accused, his wife Parvathy as the second accused, his brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy as the third, and landowner Devaraju as the fourth accused.

Following these developments, the top brass of the Lokayukta held a meeting at their headquarters in Bengaluru to discuss the future course of action regarding this case.

Political tensions rise as accusations of corruption intensify.
</excerpt>

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is under scrutiny following a Special Court in Bengaluru’s order for a Lokayukta investigation into his alleged involvement in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment scam. This development comes after the Karnataka High Court dismissed Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging the Governor’s sanction to investigate the case.

The allegations center on the illegal allocation of 14 prime land sites by MUDA, valued at around ₹56 crore, to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi. The case claims that MUDA manipulated land records, allegedly benefiting the Chief Minister’s family. The High Court noted that such favorable allotments would not have been possible without Siddaramaiah’s political influence. The court emphasized the need for an inquiry, suggesting possible abuse of power.

Siddaramaiah, however, remains defiant. In a statement posted on social media, he expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, declaring he has nothing to hide and labeling the accusations as politically motivated. He reiterated that he would face the legal battle head-on after consulting with legal experts..

The order for investigation was initiated by a complaint from social activist Snehamayi Krishna, who accused the Chief Minister of unfair practices in allotting valuable plots to his wife. The Mysuru district Lokayukta police will now lead the inquiry, with a report expected in three months.

Despite mounting pressure from the opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has called for his resignation to ensure a fair probe, Siddaramaiah refuses to step down.

This case has significant political implications for Siddaramaiah, especially as he seeks to maintain a stronghold on Karnataka’s political landscape. While the legal process unfolds, the allegations have intensified political rivalries in the state.

</excerpt>

Even as Karnataka High Court gave relief to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged MUDA scam case, the Congress is holding the meeting of its MLAs in Bengaluru to decide on the future course action.

The Chief Minister will be arriving in the national capital on Friday along with is deputy DK Shivakumar and will meet the party leadership, sources said.

According to party sources, Siddaramaiah will be arriving in the national capital on Friday afternoon and besides his meeting with few of the Union Ministers he will also meet the senior party leadership, including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge along with Shivakumar, where Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will also be present amid the former landing in trouble over the Governor granting sanction for prosecution in corruption allegations.

Meanwhile, the party is also holding a meeting of its MLAs in Bengaluru today. The sources said that Siddaramaiah is likely to brief the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on the latest developments related to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case and the CLP is likely to pass a resolution fully backing him.

However, the exact agenda for the meeting in the national capital on Friday is not known though sources said both the leaders are expected to brief the central leadership about the effects of the Governor’s action and how the state government and the state party unit plan to counter the allegations.

Earlier this month, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot has allowed three private individuals to seek investigations against Siddaramaiah on complaints of corruption in the allotment of 14 housing sites in Mysuru to the wife of the CM — in exchange for 3.16 acres of land allegedly acquired illegally by a local authority in the city.

The Governor’s order was dated August 16, and was communicated the following day.

On August 19, while hearing a challenge to the order by the chief minister, the Karnataka High Court paused precipitative action based on the Governor’s sanction until August 29, the next date of hearing.

Siddaramaiah had denied the allegations. Meanwhile, the Congress and his deputy Shivakumar all have rallied behind Siddaramaiah and accused the BJP of using the Raj Bhawan against him.

</excerpt>

On Monday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah challenged Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s decision to allow his prosecution in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam case by filing a writ petition with the High Court. Siddaramaiah is seeking to have the prosecution sanction overturned. Justice Hemant Chandangoudar’s single-judge bench is scheduled to hear the petition at 2:30 pm today.

In response, Congress leader Ramesh Babu has urged President Droupadi Murmu to intervene and withdraw the prosecution sanction against Siddaramaiah. In his letter, Babu expressed deep concern over what he described as a politically motivated act by Governor Gehlot, asserting that it threatens the core of democratic principles and constitutional values. He accused the Governor of taking a “political vendetta” approach by granting permission for prosecution, which he believes is influenced by the central government’s political interests. Babu alleged that the BJP and its allies, including the JD(S), are misusing the Governor’s office to undermine the elected Karnataka government.

Babu also emphasized his belief in democratic values and urged President Murmu to address the matter urgently to prevent further erosion of democratic norms.

In the meantime, Karnataka Congress workers have protested the Governor’s decision to permit the prosecution of CM Siddaramaiah in connection with the alleged MUDA scam. The controversy erupted after social activist Snehamayi Krishna accused Siddaramaiah and nine others of document forgery to claim compensation from MUDA.

Karnataka Chief Minister slammed former CM Siddaramaiah for allegedly enjoying on the political expenses of the central government during his tenure.

During the Congress regime Bommai said that the rice for ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but it was filled in sacks and distributed by the then CM Sddaramaiah. It was a typical ‘Siddaramaiah’s jathra’

Speaking after inaugurating BJP’s Jan Sankalp Yatra in Koppa in Chikmagalur district on Sunday, he said the Congress Party which ruled for 75 years had given piped water only to 25 lakh households.

CM Bommai said that, “Those who could not give water ruled them and such people cannot help people to lead life. Siddaramaiah ruled the State for five years but didn’t do anything. He closed Lokayukta and started the Anti-Corruption Bureau only to file ‘B’ reports in over 50 cases. This was the style of the Congress Government. “Why did they not start a medical college in Chikmagalur? “

“Let us vow to remove the Congress government from the roots and throw it out. Time has come to build New India from New Karnataka. The people must make up their mind to vote bank BJP to power in the State,” he further added.

Bommai highlighted that the incumbent government has given importance to the education field because of which it has started constructing 8000 Viveka Classrooms in one year. A residential school in the name of Brahmashree Narayana Guru, hostels for SC/ST students and 50 Kanakadasa Hostels for backward classes. He said that a double engine government is in power in Karnataka and has built 6000 km National Highway, constructed ports and implemented Jal Jeevan Mission. Tapped water has been provided to 30 lakh houses in just one year. The CM said the government has decided to upgrade Sringeri Government Hospital to 100 beds. The construction of the hospital building will start within two months.

While citing the issues of encroachment problems of Coffee growers, CM said that, “”I am aware of the problems of encroachment in the Malnad region and the Department of Revenue will soon find out a solution to the problems of Coffee growers. A sum of Rs 5.8 crore has been released for repairs of bad roads and another Rs 5 crore additional grant was released on Saturday.”

He said Datta Peeta is a temple of feelings in this region and MLA C.T.Ravi has launched a long drawn battle to offer puja in this temple. A suitable solution will be available soon. Money has been reserved in the State Budget to build a ropeway between Mullaiyanagiri and Dattapeeta.

Referring to the problems of wild elephant he said, that the government is aware of the elephant menace in this region and a new technology is being used to address this problem. A solatium of Rs 15 lakh is paid for deaths due to elephant attacks. Elephant Task Force has been constituted to check man-elephant conflict in four districts.

The other day, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai indicted the man injured in the blast could have terror links. “The bomb blast in Mangaluru prima facie looks like an act of terror and the government would crack this case,” Bommai said adding that an IED exploded inside a pressure cooker in an auto rickshaw in Mangaluru on Saturday evening. “All of you are aware of the blast in Mangaluru yesterday at 4.45 pm. Two including the auto driver and passenger are under treatment. The state police are investigating the matter and as per the primary information, it was because of an IED instrument,” Bommai added further. CM also mentioned that o=police are investigating the fake adhaar card that he was carrying.

According to a person with knowledge of the incident, Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, has asked V Somanna, the state’s minister of infrastructure development, for an explanation after he was reportedly seen slapping a woman at a public event.

At a ceremony on Saturday to distribute property title deeds in a village in Gundlupet, Chamarajanagar district, the minister allegedly slapped the woman when she approached him to discuss her complaint. A video of the incident that was captured on camera quickly became popular on social media.

The chief minister’s office has asked the minister to submit an explanation for his outrageous action by Monday, the person quoted above said.

“Deputy Speaker, Anand Mamani passed away on Saturday night and the government and the party are busy with his last rites, otherwise the explanation would have been submitted today itself,” the person added.

Media reports state that the woman pleaded the minister to assign her a plot after alleging that the selection procedure for choosing the recipients of land title deeds was rigged.

However, the minister’s office shared a video in which the woman said she only pleaded a plot be granted to her as she was too poor. “I bowed at his feet with the plea and the minister lifted me consoling me that he would help me but it was publicised that he beat me up,” the woman accompanied by her children said in the video.

Meanwhile, the minister was slammed for his actions by Congress general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh in a tweet in Hindi said a “broom” (the AAP’s election symbol) is needed to rid the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of its arrogance that comes from power.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavraj Bommai on Sunday took a dig at the Congress party and said that there is no need of talking about ‘fake Gandhis’ on Gandhi Jayanti.
Recently Rahul Gandhi accused the Karnataka Govt of being the most corrupt govt, replying to which Bommai made this statement. “Today is Gandhi Jayanti, why should I talk about fake Gandhis? The whole Congress party is out on bail- Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and DK Shivakumar are out on bail,” the CM said while reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s accusation that the Karnataka government is the most corrupt. He further continued that Congress used Karnataka as an ATM, but thankfully it is gone now.

Taking a dig at CM’s statement, Congress Karnataka Chief said D K Shivkumar asked Bommai to send him to jail and said that he will rest in jail.
“Yes, I am on bail. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are also on bail. They (BJP) have dozens who are on bail. Yediyurappa has no case against him? Bommai registered cases against me. Let him send me to Parappana Agrahara (Central Jail), I will take some rest,” Shivkumar said.
This occurred the day after disputes between the two leaders over the “PayCM” t-shirt broke out.

Using the excuse that several party members had been arrested for donning the same shirt during the “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” DK Shivakumar dared the state government to take action against him and former CM Siddaramaiah for wearing the “PayCM” t-shirt.
“Wearing “PayCM” t-shirts, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, myself, and other leaders will take part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Let’s wait and watch what the BJP does “According to reports in Nanjangud, Shivakumar.

He said that lawsuits had been brought against certain Congress employees for participating in the Gundlupet march while sporting t-shirts bearing the slogan “Pay-CM.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday announced a relief fund of Rs 300 crore for maintaining the basic infrastructure and the losses incurred by the heavy rain in Bengaluru.

He met with the Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board (BWSSB), deputy commissioners of 15 districts, and senior officials earlier on Monday to discuss the state’s flooding and rain.

On Monday, Bommai told the media about the government’s decision to release a fund of Rs 600 crore for the management of floods in Bengaluru along with other districts. 300 crores have been allotted to Bengaluru alone.

According to Bommai, a central team would travel to Bengaluru on Tuesday evening to assess the state’s flooding and rain conditions. The government will meet with the members of the team after the document has been submitted.

The BJP leader also discussed the T.K. Halli pumphouse in Mandya, which once pumped Cauvery drinking water but has since been damaged by the Bheemeshwara River and other nearby lakes overflowing. After two days of cleaning and Cauvery water draining, he made sure the pumphouse would begin pumping water.

According to the chief minister of Karnataka, Bengaluru is developing a backup plan for water supply. It would restart 8000 borewells underneath the BWSSB to provide water in areas with disruptions. In order to prevent any disruption in Bengaluru’s water supply, the government would also send tankers to areas without borewells to deliver water.

He claimed that the addition of 110 villages to the BBMP borders resulted in the expansion of Bengaluru and the emergence of new issues.

“We will remove encroachments on roads, canals, and rajakaluves and install gates for waterholes. Infrastructure will be improved. Because the state capital has received the most rainfall in the shortest amount of time, they must accept it as a challenge and face it together.”

For the upcoming four days, the interiors of south and north Karnataka should expect severe rains. The state already experienced a 144% increase in rain during the final week of August and a 51% increase in rain during the first five days of the current month. The water table has risen in areas affected by the drought. The state has not had as much rain in 42 years.

Bommai also detailed the relief measures and assessed the harm caused by the rain and floods.

14,717 hectares of agricultural crops and 1374 hectares of horticultural crops have been damaged. 2188 homes suffer partial damage, while 430 homes sustain total damage. Damage has been done to 225 km of roads, bridges, culverts, and electric poles.

He made sure that 500 crores were released for the maintenance of essential infrastructure. He stated that sluice gates would be erected for the large tanks in order to store and release water. In addition, he committed to furthering the fight against encroachment and conducting a collaborative study of crop loss.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has assured IT businesses that a discussion will be held regarding the estimated loss of Rs 225 crore caused by rain and waterlogging in Bengaluru.

He promised to discuss the losses and compensation they had to bear as a result of the rain and waterlogging in the state capital when he calls. “We will call the IT companies and speak with them related to the issues that they are facing due to waterlogging. We’ll also discuss the compensation and other related damages that have been caused due to rain,” he said.

It follows the Chief Minister’s request from IT businesses to resolve the outer ring road issue.

Bengaluru was severely waterlogged earlier today as the city was battered by torrential rain that didn’t stop falling.

Bengaluru was severely waterlogged earlier as the city was battered by torrential rain that didn’t stop falling.

Waterlogging resulted in traffic delays and interruptions in the lives of everyday people in numerous sections of Bengaluru, including Koramangala.

One of the locals claimed that waterlogging had occurred as a result of the severe rain, making driving extremely challenging. “Too much rain has taken place. We woke up in the morning and saw that waterlogging had started. The water on the road had come up to the level of the divider. After that, we started pumping water out of the road and basement. My whole basement has got submerged under water,” a local resident stated.

Another resident claimed that because of a subpar drainage system, they have to pump out water on a yearly basis.

“This happens every year. Waterlogging takes place after the rain and we have to pump out water. There is no permanent solution. When the road was being made, the drainage system wasn’t prepared well. It leads to many difficulties for the public; many women have actually slipped and fallen into the water,” a local said.

Karnataka saw significant flooding earlier in July as a result of rain, which required the execution of rescue operations and relief efforts. Chief Minister Bommai had to look for financial aid as well.

The Karnataka government’s newspaper advertisement in which Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s photo was left off of the list of freedom warriors has sparked yet another controversy. The chief minister of Karnataka, BS Bommai, insulted his father, SR Bommai, and his father’s first political mentor, MN Roy, both of whom were ardent Nehru supporters, according to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh.

Jairam Ramesh remarked, “CM Karnataka is desperately trying to keep his job.”

Nehru will survive such pettiness. CM Karnataka desperate to save his job knows what he has done is an insult to his father S.R. Bommai & his father's 1st political guru M.N. Roy both great Nehru admirers, the latter being a friend as well. Pathetic this is. https://t.co/adpkSBVyoU
— Jairam Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) August 14, 2022

The leader of the Congress, BM Sandeep, referred to Bommai as a “puppet CM” and claimed that Nehru was a major figure in India in the middle of the 20th century.

The commercial in question honours both Indian freedom heroes and those who were from Karnataka. It honours Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Chandrashekhar Azad, Savarkar, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and Vallabhbhai Patel Bhagat Singh, in addition to Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji, and Vallabhbhai Patel Bhagat Singh.

This intensified the tense argument between the BJP and the Congress on Har Ghar Tiranga. The Congress questioned the RSS’s decision to wait till Friday to change its social media profile pictures to the national flag, and BJP leader Tejasvi Surya promised to set up history lessons for anyone who questions the RSS’s role.

The Congress claimed that the 75th anniversary of Independence had been reduced to “glorifying the sarvagyaani” and questioned why no special event had been arranged in Parliament to commemorate the occasion. In response, the BJP questioned why the Congress had not published a photo of its leaders raising the flag.

BENGALURU: Karnataka Chief Minister, B.S. Yediyurappa on Tuesday said that the Chikkamagaluru police has got hold of ‘suicide note’ left behind by the Karnataka Legislative Council deputy chairman, S.L. Dharme Gowda.

Yediyurappa told reporters here that the district administration (Chikkamagaluru) has recovered a lengthy death note left by Gowda. The entire death note is also like a will, as it contains several details about his property and other important personal details, therefore, we are not revealing the contents of it at this juncture,” he explained.

He added that the contents of the death note will be released once the police complete their investigations.

Meanwhile Home minister Basavaraj Bommai confirmed that the district police have recovered the death note from the crime scene.

“He has mentioned several sensitive matters in his lengthy note, which the police want to probe in detail. Only then the real scenario that led to such an extreme stem can be revealed,” he said.

BJP national general secretary C.T. Ravi who hails from the same district that of the Gowda said Gowda did not appear to be upset with the ruckus that had taken place two weeks ago. “I had called him on the day the ruckus took place but he did not show any sign of remorse. I really do not know why he took such an extreme step,” he said.
