Karnataka Backs Thug Life Screenings

The DMK has decided to give one of its four Upper House seats to Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party as part of a pre-poll alliance forged prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The MNM has already approved a resolution accepting Haasan’s nomination. His political career started in 2018 with a promise of providing alternative rule. His nomination this time is his official entry into parliamentary politics.

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan visited the victims of the Hooch tragedy at Kallakurichi Medical College. The death toll from the incident in Tamil Nadu has now reached 56, as reported by the district administration on Sunday.

According to the District Collectorate in Kallakurichi, a total of 216 patients were hospitalized across four hospitals in Tamil Nadu due to consumption of illicit liquor. At Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) in Pondicherry, 17 patients are alive and three have died. At Vilupuram Medical College, four patients are alive and four have died. The highest number of fatalities occurred at Kallakurichi Medical College, where 31 people have died and 108 remain alive.

At Salem Medical College, 30 patients are alive, while 18 have died. “There are 160 people who were admitted to the hospitals mentioned above and 55 people are dead,” according to official data.

152 male patients have survived the incident, while 51 have tragically passed away. Meanwhile, BJP workers in Tamil Nadu protested the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy on Saturday.

According to Pinkvilla, the makers of the film have decided to release the trailer of Indian 3 with it. Director Shankar has finished the shoot of both flicks and completed a trilogy.

“A crisp theatrical trailer of Indian 3 will be attached to Indian 2. It will form a part of the end credit of this action-packed film, and the team also intends to announce the release date of Indian 3 with Indian 2. The sequel of this 1996 cult ends on a cliffhanger, and the trailer of part 3 will amp up the excitement for the release of the finale,” added a source.

Both films are scheduled to release within a gap of a year.Sources also added that Shankar and co. have got Ruben on the board as a special consultant to work on the trailers and pre-release events of Indian 2 and Indian 3

Dhanush Set to Portray Music Legend Ilaiyaraaja in Biopic

Actor Dhanush is prepared to portray the role of music legend Ilaiyaraaja in an upcoming biographical film.

The biopic was officially announced in Chennai on Wednesday in the presence of Kamal Haasan and Vetri Maaran.

Helmed by Arun Matheswaran and shot by Nirav Shah, the film’s music will be composed by the maestro himself.

‘Shock & pain’, CM Stalin condoles death of DMDK chief Vijayakanth

The mortal remains of Vijayakanth were taken to the DMDK office in Koyambedu from his Virugambakkam house in Chennai. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister MK Stalin paid floral tributes to Vijaykanth at his Chennai residence. Calling the latter’s demise a tragedy for Tamil Nadu and the film industry, CM Stalin said that the “news of the DMDK chief’s death brought shock and pain.” The Chief Minister’s Office in a statement said the “DMDK chief will be laid to rest with full state honors.”

Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam President Kamal Haasan extended his condolences after the passing of DMDK chief and actor Vijayakanth on Thursday (28 December 2023). Vijayakanth died in Chennai at age 71 after testing positive for Covid-19 earlier that day.

Haasan said “The news of the death of my beloved brother Vijayakanth, the founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam party, a unique actor and captain of Tamil cinema, who was loved by all, is deeply saddening. He was a creator of innovative ideas in Tamilnadu politics. Fearless courage was his hallmark.”

He added, “Vijayakanth, a revolutionary artist who made his mark in both the fields of cinema and politics, will remain forever in our memories. I offer my heartfelt condolences to all his family, volunteers and fans who are grieving his loss.”

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami also conveyed condolences to Vijayakanth’s bereaved family. “I am deeply saddened to learn that Vijayakanth, President of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazgam, former Leader of Opposition and dear brother passed away due to ill health. I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved Premalatha Vijayakanth, Annarath’s wife and DMDK General Secretary, her family and her volunteers. I pray that the soul of Vijayakanth, who has done many active works in public life and the field of art and is affectionately known as Captain by the people, rests in the shade of Lord Thiruvadi,” he said.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and BJP state chief K Annamalai, too, condoled the demise of Vijayakanth.

Kamal Haasan to be honoured with Outstanding Achievement Award IIFA 2023 in Mumbai

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan will receive the Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema award at the upcoming IIFA Weekend and Awards.
The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) will also honour fashion designer Manish Malhotra and actor couple Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza at the award ceremony, to be held in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on May 26 and May 27. Haasan, a multi hyphenate cinema personality who has worked across industries in India, said he is looking forward to the 2023 IIFA Awards.
“I am extremely honoured and grateful that I have been a part of many IIFAs and they are doing a great job promoting Indian cinema globally and this time I am being honoured at IIFA 2023 at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Excited to be present at the event,” Haasan said in a statement.
Malhotra, whose credits include films such as “Rangeela”, “Dil To Pagal Hai”, and “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”, will also showcase an exclusive “old world charm meets the new world” collection at a fashion show as part of Sobha Realty IIFA Rocks, a sidebar event at IIFA. Couple Deshmukh and D’Souza will be honoured with Outstanding Achievement in Regional Cinema. Last year, D’Souza produced “Ved”, a romantic drama with Deshmukh on screen. Chennai: On his second day of election campaign in Virudhunagar, to a question of him and Rajinikanth joining hands for the Assembly elections, Kamal Haasan said: “We both have come for change. We can decide only after Rajinikanth announces his political ideology clearly, then we will talk. We are just a phone call away. If our ideologies are similar and if that benefits the people, we are ready to throw away our ego and ready to cooperate with each other.”

This comment comes at the time when Rajinikanth has announced that he will start his political party in January.

Kamal Haasan also took a swipe at AIADMK for the ministers taking exception of Kamal Haasan appropriating former Chief Minister MGR ahead of the elections. Responding to remarks by ministers against him, during his campaign in Virudhunagar, Haasan said: “There are some people claiming proprietary over MGR and saying that Kamal Haasanis appropriating him. I know him as ‘Makkal Thilagam’ and when he was in DMK, he was not called ‘DMK Thilagam’. These Ministers who talk about MGR haven’t even seen his face in person, but I grew up sitting on his lap. These people don’t know anything because they don’t read or see any pictures. The entire state will claim MGR as theirs, if these people continue to say that MGR is their property, then people will teach them a lesson and will show who should sit on MGR’s lap.”
