According to officials, each unit will be led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and will be permanently stationed within the designated districts. These units are tasked with conducting counter-terrorism operations while also managing routine law and order responsibilities, as reported by news agency KDC.

The districts chosen for these units include Udhampur, Kathua, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri, and Poonch. Specific police stations and posts within these districts have been designated for each unit to ensure comprehensive coverage.

The primary focus of these units will be the Pir Panjal region and the Chenab Valley, areas that have experienced a recent increase in terror incidents. The units will collaborate with other security agencies to enhance operational effectiveness.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police are optimistic that, with the latest resources and training, these new units will play a crucial role in reducing militant activities and restoring peace to these regions, officials added.

</excerpt>

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police force has heightened security measures in North Kashmir, particularly in the twin border districts of Baramulla and Kupwara, in preparation for the 78th Independence Day celebrations. The increased vigilance comes in response to intelligence inputs indicating that terrorists are positioned at launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC), preparing to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.

A senior police official revealed that the J&K police’s OCAPS Commando unit has been actively patrolling the region to thwart any infiltration attempts. “The high degree of alertness and patrolling has been necessitated following inputs that terrorists are waiting at launch pads across the LoC to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir,” the official stated.

Visuals from the region show the J&K police conducting extensive searches after receiving reports that some terrorists might be hiding in the area. Following these inputs, the police cordoned off the entire area and initiated a thorough search operation.

In light of the looming terror threat, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued an advisory to the residents of the Union Territory. This advisory follows a series of terror attacks in the Jammu region and comes as local police, along with central security forces, ramp up security measures ahead of the Independence Day event on August 15.

To counter potential threats from cross-border terrorists, a multi-tier security grid has been put on high alert. Security agencies have intensified patrolling and surveillance along possible infiltration routes. Additionally, random night ambush checkpoints have been established at vulnerable locations as part of the enhanced security arrangements.

The heightened security measures underscore the ongoing efforts of J&K police and other security forces to ensure a safe and secure Independence Day celebration amidst the escalating tensions in the region.

</excerpt>

Jammu, August, 08: In a significant achievement, the Jammu & Kashmir Police successfully thwarted a major narco-terror smuggling operation in Jammu, recovering 33 kilograms of heroin-like substance valued at approximately ₹100 crore. This breakthrough underscores the continued efforts of law enforcement to combat the nexus between drug trafficking and terrorism in the region.

According to sources, the police received a specific intelligence input regarding the smuggling of this substantial drug consignment. Acting swiftly on this information, authorities heightened vigilance and conducted thorough checks at the Jammu Bus Stand. During these checks, a suspect carrying a suspicious bag was intercepted. Upon searching the bag, police discovered the massive haul of heroin.

The suspect, who has been identified as a minor from Punjab, was immediately taken into custody. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and have launched an extensive investigation to trace the entire network involved in this operation.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by Pakistan to destabilize Jammu & Kashmir by financing terrorism through drug smuggling. The police are determined to dismantle these networks and prevent such attempts to refuel terrorism in the region.

</excerpt>

A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces after gunmen opened fire on a house in the Hiranagar area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir, announced Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday. Initial reports indicate that residents of Saida Sukhal village heard gunshots and alerted authorities upon sighting two to three gunmen in the vicinity. The gunmen allegedly fired shots before fleeing into nearby forests. Responding swiftly, police and the Border Security Force (BSF) launched a joint operation to track down the suspected individuals.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh described the incident as a terrorist attack on the house of an unnamed individual near the international border. Singh maintained close communication with DC Kathua Rakesh Minhas and SSP Kathua Anayat Ali Choudhary, who were overseeing the situation on-site.

“The owner of the attacked house (name withheld) is also in communication via mobile phone. A joint operation by police and paramilitary forces is underway. One terrorist has been neutralized so far. My office and I are closely monitoring the developments,” posted the minister on X.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a terrorist attack two days ago, when militants targeted a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi district of Jammu, resulting in the death of nine individuals and injuring another 42. Security officials suspect the involvement of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba in this strike.

On the ground, extensive efforts to track down terrorists entered their second day on Tuesday. Eleven teams of security personnel, comprising police, Army, and CRPF, are actively pursuing leads in the Ranso-Poni-Treyath belt, where the attack occurred. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, reported that significant progress has been made as the teams work diligently to neutralize the fleeing terrorists. “The search operation continues today in and around the area where the attack took place, with 11 teams on the ground, along with a multi-directional cordon laid around the Poni-Treyath belt,” another senior police officer confirmed.

More details awaited.

</excerpt>

In efforts to combat terrorist and narco-terrorist operations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the police are leveraging advanced technology. They have implemented GPS tracker anklets and a facial recognition system powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to surveil the movements of identified criminals and terrorists within the region.

In a notable development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has deployed an Artificial Intelligence-powered facial recognition system at Navyug Checking Plaza, Banihal. Additionally, they have initiated the use of GPS tracker anklets to monitor individuals accused in NDPS cases in Kupwara, located in North Kashmir. This marks the first instance of employing such tracker anklets in the Kashmir Region, whereas previously, only one accused in Jammu was subjected to GPS tracker anklet monitoring.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police, with the goal of bolstering surveillance capabilities and efficiently tackling drug-related crimes in bordering districts of North Kashmir, has installed GPS tracker anklets on two individuals who were granted bail, as per their bail conditions.

”Under the directive of the Kupwara Court, GPS tracker anklets have been deployed on two bailed-out accused, Abdul Majid Bhat and Aabid Ali Bhat, as part of their bail conditions. It’s a high-tech surveillance system where we deploy these anklets and we keep monitoring them. If we doubt their movement, we make sure to tackle it. A police team ensured the successful implementation of this electronic surveillance technology, demonstrating the Police commitment to utilizing advanced tools in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes. This proactive approach not only strengthens monitoring capabilities but also contributes to creating a safer environment for all residents of Kupwara, ” said G M Bhat, Addl SP Kupwara.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced via Twitter the activation of an advanced AI-powered facial recognition system at the Navyuga tunnel along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. This deployment signifies a substantial advancement in enhancing security measures along one of the most crucial National Highways in the Union Territory. The technology is specifically engineered to detect and monitor individuals engaged in criminal activities, such as terrorists, over-ground workers (OGWs), absconders, individuals with criminal records, thieves, and drug traffickers.

”In a significant stride towards bolstering security measures, Ramban Police operationalises Al-Based Facial Recognition (FR) System at Navyuga Checking Plaza, Banihal, ” said district Police Ramban on social media.

The implementation of the advanced AI-based facial recognition system at the checkpoint in Banihal’s Navyuga tunnel represents a notable advancement in smart policing initiatives.
