Balancing work and late-night study, he inspired many. Part of Physics Wallah’s Ummeed Batch, his journey is now celebrated nationwide.
</excerpt>

From the city center of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, a young man’s success story of courage and perseverance has caught national headlines. Rohit Kumar, who is a street vendor selling mobile phone covers, has topped the highly competitive NEET-UG exam with a score of 549 and an All India Rank (AIR) of 12,484 in the 2025 results.

In spite of financial struggles and individual hardships, Rohit insisted on pursuing his desire to be a doctor. In an interview, given in a now-famous video, he explained, “I would work the entire day selling phone cases and study until 3 am. And then, again, I would wake up at 7 AM and work.” His passion and sacrifices went straight into the hearts of internet viewers.

Rohit was also a part of the Ummeed Batch, an initiative by Physics Wallah aimed at helping underprivileged aspirants. His life became widely recognized after Physics Wallah’s founder and CEO, Alakh Pandey, stopped by his roadside stall to congratulate him. In the video, Pandey hugs Rohit affectionately and appreciates his tireless efforts. Rohit shares how he did his work in the mornings and spent his nights studying.

The emotionally charged exchange has been shared extensively on social media, with people praising Rohit for his determination. “You make us proud,” a user tweeted, while another had to say, “This is the real inspiration.

Rohit’s path was modest. His father was employed in a vegetable shop, and Rohit had to leave college after passing his Class 12 board exams to pursue NEET preparation. He started working at a medical shop during the lockdown for COVID-19, a job which inspired him to become a part of the healthcare sector.

NEET UG 2025 was held on May 4, and the results were announced on June 14 through the NTA’s official website. Mahesh Kumar of Rajasthan led the exam, whereas Utkarsh Awadhiya of Madhya Pradesh was placed second and Krishang Joshi was placed third. Avika Aggarwal of Delhi was the female topper.

Rohit Kumar’s tale is a strong assertion of the fact that passion and determination are all it takes to make even the most difficult dreams come true.

Parents lodged complaints, prompting an investigation by a committee of officials. Action will follow based on the inquiry’s findings.
</excerpt>

A private school principal in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district has courted controversy for allegedly asking 80 Class 10 girls to take off their shirts as she found them writing messages on it. The incident, which took place on Friday at the senior most school in Digwadih under the Jorapokhar police station area, has sparked an outrage prompting the administration to initiate an inquiry, confirmed the official on Saturday.

According to Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra, the girls were celebrating ‘pen day’ after completing their examination by writing messages on each other’s shirts. The principal reportedly objected to the activity and directed the students to remove their shirts, despite their apologies. The students were subsequently sent home wearing only their blazers.

Parents lodged complaints with the DC, terming the incident to be deeply distressing. The parents were accompanied by Jharia MLA Ragini Singh and demanded action against the principal. Singh termed the incident “shameful and unfortunate.”

“Several guardians lodged complaints against the principal. We also talked to some of the victim girls. The administration has taken the matter seriously. A committee has been set up to investigate the matter,” Mishra said.

The inquiry committee consists of the sub-divisional magistrate, district education officer, district social welfare officer, and the sub-divisional police officer. The DC assured that action would be taken based on the findings of the panel’s report.

</excerpt>

A distressing video from West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, has gone viral on social media, shedding light on the challenges faced by underserved communities in accessing healthcare. The footage shows family members of a critically ill person risking their lives to carry the patient on a stretcher beneath a stationary cargo train.

The patient, a resident of Mundasai village in Khuntpani Block, West Singhbhum, required urgent medical attention at the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Champua. However, when his condition worsened, his family called an ambulance via the 108 emergency service. Unfortunately, the ambulance couldn’t reach their home due to the absence of motorable roads, forcing the family to stop 1 kilometer away from the house.

To bridge this gap, the relatives carried the patient on a stretcher to the ambulance. On their way, they encountered a railway track obstructed by a stationary cargo train.

Watch:

— Rajak Shaikh (@rajak_sahil1) November 29, 2024

A Risky Decision to Save a Life

As the patient’s condition deteriorated further, the family initially waited for the train to move but eventually decided they could not afford the delay. Taking a risky step, some family members carefully carried the stretcher under the cargo train while others followed. They managed to navigate the track and reach the ambulance, which transported the patient to the Sub-Divisional Hospital. The patient is now undergoing treatment, though no updates on their health status have been reported.

This incident underscores the challenges posed by inadequate infrastructure in rural areas. Villages like Jaintgarh in Jagannathpur Block of the same district remain without basic road access. Such infrastructural gaps force residents into dangerous situations while seeking medical aid.

The situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of government spending on infrastructure and healthcare schemes. Despite significant financial allocations, incidents like these highlight the disconnect between policy initiatives and on-ground realities.

The accused, Naresh Bhengra, a butcher by profession, had been in a live-in relationship with the victim, a 24-year-old woman from the same district, for the past two years. The couple had been living together in Tamil Nadu. However, Bhengra secretly married another woman and returned to Jharkhand, leaving his partner behind without informing her of his new marital status. The woman, unaware of his marriage, insisted on returning to Jharkhand with him, where the tragedy unfolded.

Police launched an investigation and recovered several dismembered body parts from the forest. A bag containing the woman‘s personal belongings, including her Aadhaar card, was also found. The mother of the deceased was sent to the scene, and she identified her daughter‘s belongings; suspicion then fell over Bhengra for this crime.

Accused’s Confession and Crime Details

Bhengra, who had been working in a butcher shop in Tamil Nadu, admitted to the brutal crime. He confessed that he had strangled the woman with her dupatta after raping her and then dismembered her body into 40 to 50 pieces. He left the body parts in the forest, intending for wild animals to feast on them. Police arrested Bhengra following his confession.

The incident occurred on November 8, when Bhengra returned to Khunti with the woman. He took her to a remote location near his home, where he carried out the crime. Afterward, he returned to Tamil Nadu to live with his new wife, leaving his partner’s body behind.

Shock and Outrage

The gruesome nature of the crime has shocked the local community, with many drawing comparisons to the notorious Shraddha Walker murder case in Delhi in 2022, where a woman was also killed by her live-in partner, who then dismembered her body and discarded the remains in a jungle.

The case is still under investigation, and Bhengra has been arrested and charged with the brutal murder of his partner. The authorities are working to gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the crime.

This chilling case of violence and betrayal has stunned the region, and the police are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served for the victim.

The election took place in two phases, on November 13 and November 20, and Soren was vying for re-election from Barhait. The sitting MLA faced BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom in a tight contest.

Soren, who previously won this seat in 2014 and 2019, was eager to retain his position. His success in Barhait reinforces his political stature and deepens his support base, particularly among the tribal communities in Jharkhand.

</excerpt>

The Election Commission has reported that enforcement agencies have seized over Rs 1,000 crore worth of cash, liquor, and other inducements during the ongoing elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and across 14 states where bypolls are being held. Of this amount, Rs 858 crore has been confiscated from Maharashtra and Jharkhand, marking a sevenfold increase compared to the 2019 assembly elections. In 2019, Maharashtra recorded seizures worth Rs 103.61 crore, while Jharkhand’s total was Rs 18.76 crore.

The second round of voting in Jharkhand is scheduled for November 20, coinciding with Maharashtra’s polling date. Votes for both states will be counted on November 23.

In Maharashtra, significant seizures have been made across all districts, surpassing figures from previous assembly elections. Notable operations include the confiscation of Rs 3.70 crore in cash from a suspicious Jeep in the Wada police station area of Palghar District. Additionally, in the Jamod Assembly Constituency of Buldhana district, authorities seized 4,500 kg of ganja plants valued at Rs 4.51 crore. In Raigad, silver bars worth Rs 5.20 crore were confiscated.

The Election Commission’s intensified focus on curbing the influence of money in elections has led to this substantial increase in seizures. Chief Election Officer Rajiv Kumar has instructed all officials and observers to maintain strict vigilance over the next two days and to prevent the distribution of any inducements until polling concludes.

Jharkhand has also witnessed record seizures, with a particular emphasis on curbing illicit mining activities. In Rajmahal Assembly Constituency of Sahibganj district, illegal mining materials worth ₹2.26 crore were seized, along with the machinery involved. In Daltonganj, authorities confiscated 687 kg of poppy straw, while in Hazaribagh, 48.18 kg of marijuana was seized.

In Rajasthan, enforcement agencies intercepted 449 cartons of liquor concealed behind layers of potato boxes in Nagaur, during transit from one neighboring state to another.

The surge in seizures is attributed to an extensive monitoring process initiated months before the election announcements. This process includes sensitizing and reviewing enforcement agencies for coordinated monitoring, identifying expenditure-sensitive constituencies, ensuring adequate field teams, providing training on expenditure monitoring systems, and appointing experienced officers as Expenditure Observers.

Also read: India’s Insurance Market to Reach $11 Trillion by 2047

The Election Commission has also invested in information technology to enhance monitoring efforts. The in-house Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) facilitates real-time monitoring and information sharing among multiple agencies, serving as a broader deterrent against electoral malpractices.

</excerpt>

In a rally at poll-bound Jharkhand’s Seraikela, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a significant declaration, stating that if an “intruder” marries a girl from the tribal community, they will not be entitled to acquire land in her name. Shah targeted alleged “infiltrators” from Bangladesh, echoing earlier remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He promised that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins, it would pass a law preventing land transfers to such intruders.

Shah asserted, “Infiltrators are grabbing land by marrying our daughters. We will bring a law to prevent transfer of land to infiltrators if they marry tribal women. We will also form a committee to identify infiltrators to drive them out and reclaim land grabbed by them.”

Attack on Ruling Coalition: ‘Supporters of Bangladesh Infiltrators’

Amit Shah’s comments come on the heels of a similar attack by PM Modi, who criticized the Hemant Soren-led administration of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alliance. During a speech in Garhwa, Modi accused the ruling coalition of indulging in vote-bank politics by settling Bangladeshi infiltrators across Jharkhand.

Modi said, “The JMM-RJD-Congress government has taken appeasement to its peak. These parties are destroying the state’s social harmony. They are supporters of infiltrators.”

Amit Shah also criticized the JMM over the treatment of Champai Soren, a former JMM leader who briefly served as Chief Minister after Hemant Soren’s arrest on corruption charges. Champai Soren was dismissed soon after Hemant Soren was released on bail. Shah described this incident as not just an insult to Champai Soren but a slight against the entire tribal community.

“The way Champai Soren was humiliated and thrown out is an insult to tribal people,” Shah declared, highlighting the BJP’s attempts to strengthen its ties with the tribal communities, who have traditionally been a strong support base for the JMM.

Corruption Allegations: ₹1,000 Crore Jobs Scam and More

The Home Minister launched a scathing attack on the current JMM-Congress administration, accusing them of rampant corruption. He alleged that if the BJP regains power, it would jail the corrupt leaders responsible for a series of scams, including a ₹1,000 crore jobs scam, a ₹300 crore land scam, and a ₹1,000 crore mining scam.

Shah emphasized, “The corrupt leaders of the JMM-Congress alliance will be jailed if the BJP wins back power in Jharkhand.”

Financial Mismanagement and Seizures: ₹350 Crore Recovered

Referring to high-profile cash seizures, Shah accused the Congress of massive corruption. He pointed to the Income Tax Department’s raid on Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu’s home in December last year, which led to the “highest-ever” recovery of over ₹350 crore.

“Has anyone seen ₹350 crore? But this amount was found at the house of a Congress MP. 27 machines were needed to count the notes,” he said.

Shah also cited another raid in May, where cash worth over ₹35 crore was seized from the office of Alamgir Alam’s private secretary, sparking a political storm.

“Rs 30 crores were seized from Alamgir Alam’s residence. This money was sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the youth of Jharkhand, but the Hemant Soren government consumed it,” Shah alleged.

In his concluding remarks, Shah assured voters that if the BJP is elected, the party would ensure transparency and efficient use of funds. He stated, “If the central government sends ₹1 as aid, 25 paise will be added by the state, making it ₹1.25 that reaches the people.”

With these bold promises and accusations, Amit Shah set the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in Jharkhand, targeting both the ruling coalition’s policies and its alleged corruption.

</excerpt>

In Jharkhand, the heat for state assembly election -2024 is going on. The main parties who are in the fray have declared their candidates. It is going to be a tough contest between two alliances-National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and I.N.D.I.A. bloc. In the I.N. D. I. A. bloc, the leading party is Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and chief ministerial face in undoubtedly Hemant Soren. Interestingly, Bhartiya Janata Party leads the NDA and there are many faces who may have chief ministerial possibility.
As we know Hemant Soren emerged as main claimant of the political legacy of his father and iconic tribal leader-Shri Shibu Soren.
Why It is going to be tough and close contest?
Firstly, JMM leader Hemant Soren who is main contender from I.N.D.I.A bloc for the power in Jharkhand has many advantages and disadvantages in this election. The main advantage he has his political legacy which is associated with Shibu Soren. Secondly, he got well-structured and deeply rooted influence of JMM from as legacy of his father. The tribal as base vote for JMM in many parts of Jharkhand is another strength. The tribal constitute 26.21 percent of total Jharkhand population which is largest voting bloc.
He tried to carved his face as-youth leader. As we know youth is largest section in Jharkhand population. Almost 70 percent of Jharkhand population are youth.
He is also suffering from certain disadvantages. The first and the foremost is the dent in his image caused by allegation of corruption. Secondly, his symbolic power of political legacy of Shibu Soren has been also fractured due to their family rift and Sita Soren’s, wife of his elder brother, decision of joining BJP and contesting assembly election on BJP ticket. The Champai Soren resignation from the JMM also appeared as another perceptional loss for Hemant Soren and his party.
It is true that after his arrest, Heman Soren acquired some sympathy-based support for him. It became obvious just after his release from the jail. He received overwhelming welcome by his followers when he came out from jail.
Most of the political analysts use to consider a strong element for cultivating winnability for him in coming state assembly election. But since due to long time gap between moment of his release and election time, we see decline in sympathy for Heman Soren in public which produced due to his arrest on the allegation of corruption.
The Congress, one of the important part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc is struggling to improve its image which received dent to corruption charges on its some leaders.
On the other hand, BJP and its NDA allies All Jharkhand Student Union(AJSU), Janata Dal United(JDU) and Lok Jan shakti Party are working hard to develop a rainbow alliance of various castes and communities in Jharkhand. As we know Jharkhand contains many big cities such as Ranchi, Jamshed Pur, Hazaribagh, Geeridih and many other with impressive urban population. The urban population mostly favors to BJP.BJP has also deep impact in non-tribal population of Jharkhand which is growing day by day. Through the tribal party like AAJSU and important tribal faces like Arjun Munda, Sita Soren, Champai soren, BJP has made impact in tribal vote bank too.
The Rohingya and Bangla deshi intruders’ issues raised by NDA and BJP in big way in this election may also add a section of tribals and non-tribals in the voters’ profile of the BJP. The fear psychosis caused by this intruder’s issue may produce new form of political mobilization in Jharkhand. RSS and its allies have also prepared an echo-system by their social service schemes among tribals and poor may also help BJP in this election in one way or another way. BJP and its allies are also building up their election campaign on anti-incumbency element against JMM government. This may be an additional factor for giving edge to the BJP in this election
PM Modi acquires lot of trust among people of Jharkhand especially among Upper middle class, middle class and poor. He has evolved his admirers across the caste and communities in the state. Women which is largest section of Jharkhand society in both tribal and non-tribal social groups, mostly trust on PM Modi. His policies may have influenced a section of women voters in the state.
His policies for the poor and marginal evolved a huge beneficiary group among these marginalised communities. A large section of these beneficiaries of Modi wala programmes may certainly favour to NDA alliance in coming election.
These factors show the coming election is going to be close fight between these two strong contenders for power in Jharkhand state. Who acquires edge in it, it will be clear in coming few days when election campaign may get momentum. Both the political alliance are now in the battlefield with their full preparation.

He alleged that the Muslim population is on the rise while the tribal population is declining, attributing this shift to infiltration.

In a statement to ANI, Sarma emphasized his concerns, saying, “I ignited fire against infiltrators. Lord Hanuman had also set fire in Lanka. We have to set fire against infiltrators and make Jharkhand a golden land.” He claimed that the increase in the Muslim population in the Santhal Pargana region raises questions about its origins, stating, “If families are not giving birth to so many children, then definitely people are coming from outside. This is simple mathematics.”

Commitment to Implement NRC in Santhal Pargana

Sarma further declared the BJP’s intention to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the Santhal Pargana division if elected. He referenced a recent internal letter from the Jharkhand government, alleging that intruders were receiving training at madrasas and obtaining Aadhaar cards, which he claims supports his assertions about infiltration.

He concluded his comments by expressing confidence that the BJP would secure victory in the upcoming elections, stating, “We will win the elections, but that is not the main priority; it is to throw out infiltrators from Santhal Pargana and ensure justice for women.”

Voting for the Jharkhand assembly elections is scheduled to take place in two phases on November 13 and November 20. In the previous assembly election, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 30 seats, the BJP secured 25, and Congress won 16 seats.

This shocking revelation came to light when the businessman, suspicious of his family’s declining health, decided to install a hidden camera in the kitchen.

The incidents in both Jharkhand and Ghaziabad highlight critical concerns regarding food safety and hygiene practices in local eateries and homes. Authorities are urged to take more rigorous actions to ensure the safety and health of consumers in the region.

As the year-end assembly elections draw near, the Hemant Soren administration in Jharkhand is ramping up efforts to promote the Maiya Samman Yojana, which Chief Minister Soren touts as a significant women’s empowerment initiative. However, the effectiveness of this scheme is being overshadowed by ongoing challenges faced by women in the state, particularly those from poor, backward, or tribal communities, who continue to grapple with an inadequate healthcare system.

Distressing Incident Exposes Healthcare Shortcomings

A recent incident outside the Sadar Hospital in Ranchi has brought the deficiencies of Jharkhand’s healthcare services into sharp focus. On October 11, a pregnant woman named Gulshan Khatoon was denied admission and was forced to give birth on the roadside. After experiencing delivery complications, she was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), but could not secure an ambulance for transport. This incident has sparked widespread criticism of the state’s healthcare system and raised alarms about the treatment of vulnerable populations.

Public Outcry on Social Media

The incident has ignited a flurry of concerns on social media, with users highlighting the lack of basic facilities at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. One user noted that addressing such healthcare issues would eliminate the need for welfare schemes like the Maiya Samman Yojana. Another commentator pointed out that Dalits and tribals frequently struggle to access necessary treatments, recounting similar experiences of women being denied admission and forced to deliver in unsafe conditions.

In response to the public outcry, the Hemant Soren government has launched an inquiry into the incident. The Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi has assembled a team to investigate any potential negligence. Fortunately, Gulshan Khatoon’s condition is now reported to be stable, but the incident underscores the severe implications of the healthcare crisis.

The State of Healthcare Facilities

Jharkhand’s healthcare facilities face dire challenges, with many government hospitals lacking basic amenities and maintaining poor hygiene standards. Patients often endure long waits in unsanitary conditions, and outdated medical equipment delays critical treatment. A recent incident in Dhanbad saw a patient turned away due to a shortage of proper medical resources.

The shortage of medical personnel compounds these issues, with only one doctor and three nurses available per lakh population in the state, despite a population of approximately 4.06 crore.

Political Implications Ahead of Elections

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has capitalized on these healthcare failures, criticizing the Hemant Soren government for failing to translate announced schemes into meaningful improvements. Local residents and health workers echo these concerns, calling for effective implementation of healthcare reforms.

With assembly elections approaching, pressure is mounting on Soren’s administration to address these pressing healthcare challenges. Without tangible reforms, public dissatisfaction could significantly influence the upcoming electoral outcomes.

</excerpt>

In 2017, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a crucial directive to all states, emphasizing the need to identify and verify the presence of Rohingya refugees and other illegal immigrants. The directive arose from national security concerns and the growing recognition of illegal immigration as a threat, particularly to border states like Jharkhand. The Ministry’s order underlined that such immigrants pose significant risks, including altering the demographic balance, social unrest, and complicating issues of governance and security at multiple levels.
Jharkhand’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) acknowledged the problem, with reports confirming the presence of illegal immigrants in various parts of the state. These immigrants, many of whom arrived from neighbouring countries, have settled in Jharkhand over the years, raising alarm about the potential for demographic shifts in key regions. As more immigrants settle, concerns are mounting over their impact on local communities, resource distribution, and regional stability. The state’s porous borders and unchecked influx have made it a hotspot for such illegal immigration, demanding urgent government intervention.
In response to this growing threat, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), Writ Petition No. 6547 of 2022, was filed in the High Court of Jharkhand at Ranchi. The petitioner, Danyaal Danish, sought the court’s intervention to compel the state authorities to address the illegal immigration crisis. The petition demanded the Jharkhand government comply with the MHA’s 2017 directive and take action to identify and remove illegal immigrants from the state. The petitioner argued that the state’s inaction posed significant risks to both security and governance, with the situation demanding immediate attention from both the state and central governments.
A compliance affidavit was filed by Keshab Biswas, Assistant Director of the Bureau of Immigration (BOI), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), on behalf of the Central Government. In this affidavit, the Central Government laid out its position, expressing concern over the state government’s failure to act on this pressing issue. Biswas’s affidavit detailed the series of meetings between the Union Home Secretary and the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand. Notably, during a meeting on 29th September 2024, it was emphasized that the primary responsibility for identifying illegal immigrants rested with the Jharkhand government. Despite this, the state had not initiated any significant actions to fulfilthis responsibility.
The affidavit also revealed the Central Government’s willingness to support Jharkhand in implementing measures to address illegal immigration. The Union Home Secretary proposed the formation of a fact-finding committee, consisting of representatives from both the state and central governments, to investigate the scale of illegal immigration and suggest preventive measures. However, in a surprising move, the Jharkhand government refused to cooperate, stating they were not in Favor of such a committee. Furthermore, the affidavit noted that the State Government had challenged the High Court’s order in the Supreme Court, indicating its reluctance to comply with the court’s directives.
This resistance from the Jharkhand government is particularly concerning given the scale of the problem. Illegal immigrants, particularly Rohingyas, have been reported to not only settle but also engage in activities that may alter the social and political landscape of the state. The state government’s refusal to cooperate with the Central Government, combined with its reluctance to comply with judicial orders, suggests a significant governance gap in handling this serious issue. Such non-cooperation in the face of a national security threat could have grave consequences, especially in a state where demographics and local politics are sensitive.
One of the critical issues highlighted in the affidavit is the potential impact of illegal immigration on the state’s electoral process. Reports suggest that many illegal immigrants may have obtained forged voter identification documents, allowing them to participate in elections. This undermines the integrity of the electoral system and poses a direct threat to democracy. The involvement of illegal immigrants in the voting process could lead to significant manipulation of voter lists and, consequently, election outcomes. This is particularly concerning with the upcoming elections in Jharkhand, where demographic changes could sway political fortunes.
The issue of illegal immigrants becoming part of the voter base is not just a legal or administrative issue—it strikes at the very core of the democratic process. The affidavit emphasizes that the state’s voter lists could be significantly compromised if illegal immigrants continue to register as voters. This manipulation has the potential to subvert democracy, allowing foreign elements to influence the governance of the state. Moreover, it raises questions about the fairness and transparency of the elections, as political parties may seek to exploit the situation to gain an unfair advantage.
Furthermore, the demographic changes brought about by illegal immigration could have long-term implications for Jharkhand. The influx of immigrants is likely to affect the state’s social fabric, with tensions potentially arising between local populations and immigrant communities. Such demographic shifts could lead to unrest, social conflict, and an overall weakening of the state’s governance structure. The affidavit warns of the dangers of ignoring these demographic changes, as they could lead to a more unstable and divided society in the long term.
In conclusion, the affidavit filed by the Central Government reveals a troubling state of affairs regarding illegal immigration in Jharkhand. The refusal of the state government to cooperate with the Centre’s efforts, along with its resistance to judicial directives, signals a significant governance failure. Illegal immigration is not just a local issue—it is a national security threat that could have far-reaching consequences for the state and the country. The demographic shifts caused by illegal immigration, combined with the potential manipulation of the voter base, threaten the very foundations of democracy in Jharkhand. Immediate action is required to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control, and the Central Government’s affidavit calls for urgent judicial intervention to address this critical issue before it’s too late.

</excerpt>

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the JMM-Congress coalition in Jharkhand saying that the population of Hindus and tribals are on decline and accused the JMM-led coalition government of engaging in dangerous “vote bank politics” by supporting infiltrators at the expense of the state’s identity, culture, and heritage, the Congress slammed him saying that by making such serious accusations he himself highlighted the failures of his own government at the Centre.
Speaking to the ITV Network here, Jharkhand Congress incharge Ghulam Ahmed Mir hit back at the Prime Minister and the BJP and said, “This is the responsibility of the Prime Minister, Deernce Minister and Home Minister. The Prime Minister is highlighting his own failures as the borders of the country are not maintained bythe state government but by the Defence Minister, Home Minister, the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister.”
Slamming the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, Mir said, “If the Prime Minister got any case then they must share the details of the action taken. Otherwise the people of Jharkhand very well understand the strategy of polarising voters ahead of the elections.” The Prime Minister visited Jharkhand on October 2 and slammed the JMM and Congress government in the state and said that the time is ripe for ‘Parivartan’ in Jharkhand to safeguard ‘beti, mati, roti’ and combat corruption.
“The JMM-led coalition is playing a dangerous game, jeopardising the identity, culture, and traditions of the people while patronising infiltrators,” he said in Hazaribagh. Thisbwas Modi’s second visit to Jharkhand in about two weeks, as elections for the 81-member assembly is scheduled later this year. The current Vidhan Sabha’s tenure is set to expire on January 5.
On Modi announcing several projects worth Rs 83,000 crore in the poll bound mineral rich state of eastern India, the Congress leader said, “The Prime Minister, whichever state he is visiting is making the announcement of Rs 80,000 crore. Whereever he announced projects worth Rs 80,000, a team should be formed know the reality that those funds have been allocated or not.”
Taking a pot shot at the Prime Minister he said that these are just rhetoric ahead of the polls. “We already have given thr details of the pending amount worth Rs 1.37 lakh crore with the central government.

The man who is unable to provide the pending amount of a state despite reminders then from where will he provide additional Rs 80,000 crore,” he asked.
He further said that the central government in last five years did not provide fund for the PMAY scheme and the state government has to carry the scheme on its own. “And these new promises just ahead of polls are not going to work and I feel that the JMM and Congress alliance will go more strong in the state,” the Congress leader said. The Prime Minister unveiled projects worth Rs 83,000 crore in Jharkhand which emphasised on development of tribals in the state.

For many years, the Soren family has been a powerful force in Jharkhand’s politics. However, their hold on power appears to be weakening due to rising controversies and internal conflicts.

Champai Soren’s Marginalization Unveils Internal Issues

The recent sidelining of Champai Soren, a prominent figure in the Jharkhand State Formation movement, has brought to light significant issues within the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). This move has led to concerns that the Soren family might be more focused on protecting their own legacy rather than addressing the needs of the state.

Champai Soren was instrumental in the fight for Jharkhand’s statehood and worked alongside other key leaders like the late Shri Binod Bihari Mahto. Despite his crucial role, Champai was pushed aside by the party he helped establish. He briefly led Jharkhand as the head of a coalition government, working to stabilize governance and implement welfare programs. However, his leadership ended abruptly when Hemant Soren, son of Shibu Soren, returned from jail and swiftly took back control.

Criticisms of Soren Governance: “Family First, State Last”

The Soren family’s governance style has faced growing criticism for putting personal interests above the welfare of Jharkhand. When Hemant Soren returned to power, he quickly reasserted control, neglecting the alliances that had kept the party afloat during his absence. This perceived entitlement has alienated many within the JMM and among Jharkhand’s residents.

Allegations of corruption against both Shibu and Hemant Soren have further damaged the party’s image. Accusations of graft and nepotism suggest that the Sorens are more interested in maintaining their power and wealth than in genuinely serving the state.

Concentration of Power: The Soren Family’s Monopoly

The exclusion of leaders like Champai Soren highlights not just internal strife but also a broader issue within the JMM—the dominance of the Soren family. While Shibu Soren is often recognized as a leading figure in the Jharkhand movement, it’s important to remember the collective efforts of leaders such as Shri Binod Bihari Mahto, who played significant roles in Jharkhand’s formation. Over time, however, the narrative has become increasingly centered on the Sorens, turning the JMM into a family-run entity and sidelining other important leaders.

Growing Discontent Among Jharkhand’s Residents

As Jharkhand’s residents observe the ongoing power struggles within the JMM, their frustration is mounting. Long-time supporters feel betrayed and are increasingly calling for leadership that prioritizes the state’s development over personal gain. The frequent sidelining of capable leaders like Champai Soren, combined with ongoing corruption and nepotism, has led many to question the Sorens’ ability to effectively lead Jharkhand.

The Future of the Soren Family’s Legacy

The Soren family’s relentless pursuit of power is proving detrimental to both their party and the state. As Jharkhand’s citizens grow tired of political maneuvering, the key question remains: Will the Sorens eventually put the state’s interests first, or will their legacy be defined by missed opportunities and broken promises?

Jharkhand is grappling with two major challenges: a rise in extremist activities linked to international terrorist groups and a growing influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh. These twin crises are raising serious concerns about the state’s security and demographic integrity, putting Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s governance model under the spotlight.

Extremism on the Rise: Radicalisation Networks Unveiled

Recent joint operations by the Delhi Police, Jharkhand’s Anti-Terrorism Squad, and central intelligence agencies have revealed a worrying trend of radicalisation within the state. The arrest of Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed, an MBBS graduate, along with others from various socio-economic backgrounds, showcases how extremist groups like Al-Qaeda are recruiting individuals across the spectrum—ranging from educated professionals to economically disadvantaged workers.

This development not only underscores the extent of extremist influence in Jharkhand but also raises concerns about the effectiveness of local intelligence and preventive measures against radicalisation. The recruitment of individuals from such diverse backgrounds indicates a sophisticated strategy by these extremist organizations.

Demographic Shifts: Illegal Migration from Bangladesh

In addition to security threats, Jharkhand, particularly in the Santhal Pargana region, is experiencing demographic changes attributed to the influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh. The stark difference between the official population growth rate and the increase in voters in districts like Pakur points to the presence of a significant undocumented population.

The verification process aimed at addressing this issue has been widely criticised for being superficial, with experts arguing that it barely touched the surface of the problem. Reports suggest widespread document forgery and illegal settlement, raising concerns about the long-term demographic impact.

Political Implications of Migration and Extremism

Analysts believe that the Soren government’s response to the demographic changes may be driven by political considerations, potentially aimed at creating a voter base favorable to the ruling coalition. The government’s explanations, attributing the population growth to natural causes and awareness campaigns, have been met with skepticism. Critics argue that these explanations fail to address the larger issues of illegal migration and resource strain.

With elections just around the corner, Jharkhand’s voters are expected to weigh these concerns heavily as they make their decisions. If left unchecked, the rise of extremism and demographic shifts could destabilise the region, heightening the risk of communal tensions and straining the state’s resources.

The Path Ahead: Addressing Critical Issues

As Jharkhand faces these complex challenges, the state’s leadership will need to implement more effective security measures and transparent policies to tackle illegal migration. The growing concerns about extremism and migration highlight the need for robust governance that prioritizes the state’s stability and demographic integrity.

The upcoming elections will serve as a crucial test for Jharkhand’s political landscape, with both issues likely to play a key role in shaping the future of the region.

</excerpt>

A controversy erupted on Sunday when a video showing a senior official from Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), removing the shoes and adjusting the pyjama strings of Union Minister of State for Coal, Satish Chandra Dubey, went viral. The incident reportedly took place during the minister’s visit to the Munidih underground mines in Jharkhand and has sparked widespread backlash on social media.

BCCL Responds, Calls Video “Misleading”

In response to the viral video, BCCL issued a statement refuting the claims. The company described the footage as “false and misleading,” explaining that the official was helping the minister adjust a belt that supports the battery for the headlamp used during the mine visit.

“A claim circulating on social media suggesting that a BCCL official adjusted the minister’s pyjamas is entirely false and misleading,” a BCCL spokesperson clarified. The official further explained that after the minister had finished his inspection of the underground mine, his boots were removed using a mechanical instrument, following standard protocol, and not manually by the BCCL staff.

Political Backlash

The controversy prompted sharp criticism from opposition leaders. Santosh Singh, the Dhanbad District President of the Congress party, condemned the incident, calling for an apology from Minister Dubey.

“If a GM-ranked official is removing the minister’s shoes, it’s a matter of deep shame,” Singh remarked. He sarcastically added that the minister should promote the official to the rank of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) “as a reward for sycophancy.” Singh also criticized Dubey’s previous statements about unpaid electricity bills in the state and accused the central government of failing to pay mining royalties to Jharkhand.

Minister’s Mine Visit and CSR Initiative

The incident overshadowed Minister Dubey’s inspection of several key coal project sites, including subsidence-prone areas near Sendra-Bansjora, a fire-affected section of the Ena colliery, and the Munidih underground mine. During his visit, the minister also inaugurated a mini science laboratory at a government high school in Rajganj, a project funded under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Coal India Limited.

Despite BCCL’s clarification, the controversy surrounding the viral video continues to stir debate, with many questioning the optics of the incident and the minister’s handling of the situation.

But if there is one lesson from the 2024 election results, it is that no one party can claim to be omnipresent. </excerpt>

Both the Congress and the BJP have been accused of playing the big brother when it comes to regional allies. But if there is one lesson from the 2024 election results, it is that no one party can claim to be omnipresent. The two may have a national footprint throughout the country (as opposed to regional parties that are limited to their states of influence). But it is equally true that the national footprint would not be possible without the crutch of regional allies. For instance, would the Congress have done as well in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and J&K without its local allies? Similarly, the BJP would not be able to form government at the Centre and cross the 272 mark without Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar (Chirag Paswan is additional baggage that the Prime Minister is humoring for now, but I would not be surprised if Paswan is the first casualty once the BJP starts grooming its own local leadership in Bihar.

This is something young Chirag should do well to keep in mind, for the Prime Minister may indulge him with a pat on the back now and then, but Narendra Modi and Amit Shah can be very ruthless in discarding those that stand in the way of their own party’s interests. And the local BJP unit does not get along well with someone whose ambitions don’t match his stature. But, I digress.)

Back to the politics of coalition dharma. There are four assembly elections coming up as well as the crucial set of ten by-polls in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress and the National Conference have been the first off the bat and announced the seat sharing for Jammu & Kashmir, with the National Conference getting the larger chunk of 51 and the Congress getting 32.

The Congress, having realized that its regional ally has the advantage in the Union Territory of J&K has wisely allowed the NC to have the larger share. But will it practice the same principle in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh? In Maharashtra, the Udhav Thackeray’s Sena is hopeful of projecting their leader as the CM face of the alliance. After all, he is a former CM. However this will not go down well with the local congress leaders in the state who also fancy a chance at wresting the state away from the BJP and its allies, the Mahayuti alliance. The Maharashtra unit of the Congress party claims that while theirs is a pan Maharashtra party, the Sena is limited to certain pockets. How will the Congress leadership at the Centre handle this? Will Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi keep the peace for the larger goal of defeating the BJP and give in to the Sena’s demands? Or will they concede to their own party workers? The third ally in this combination, Sharad Pawar, seems content to play kingmaker for that is where his clout comes from.

A similar dilemma awaits the Congress in Uttar Pradesh for the Samajwadi Party is in no mood to concede the lion’s share to the Congress. It wants to fight atleast six if not more of the ten bypolls while the Congress will push for an equal share. Unlike Maharashtra however, in Uttar Pradesh the Congress is yet to groom a leader of stature, let alone anyone who can match Akhilesh Yadav’s pan-state appeal.

The BJP too is in a similar dilemma. Already its allies in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar have flexed their muscle on critical issues like the Wafk Board amendments. Will it take a lesson in appeasement when it comes to negotiating seats with the Mahayuti alliance partners.

Will it go with Eknath Shinde as the CM face again or promote a BJP leader as is the demand from its cadres? The NCP faction of Ajit Pawar too will not be dismissed easily when it comes to seat sharing despite its abysmal performance during the Lok Sabha elections. Then again, Ajit Pawar’s clout really is at the assembly level. Similarly Eknath Shinde’s nuisance value could be more than his on ground performance but the BJP will have to pander to his demands. As For Haryana, the BJP seems more keen on breaking individual leaders (mostly from the Congress) than forging any alliances, while the Congress is quite confident of going it alone, minus the Aam Admi Party this time.
In the end what matters most is that we see a vibrant democracy at play and that is the one big takeaway from the 2024 verdict.

Accordong to sources, the Congress is all set to announce the appointments of over 40 party leaders as secretaries.

The source said that the party will make the changes in the organisation to infuse fresh blood in the party.

The source said that the grand old party is also planning to change the stafe unit chiefs of Telangana and Jharkhand in the coming days.

The source said that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who is also the party state chief can hand over the post to another leader in the coming days. Similarly, the source said that decision on West Bengal is yet to be taken.

A statement released by the agency on Wednesday said that the “premises of suspects connected with the proscribed splinter Naxal outfit, the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), were searched by NIA teams, and several incriminating digital devices and documents were seized.”

The case relates to the extortion of money from various coal traders, transporters, railway contractors, businessmen, etc. by PLFI cadres in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

“These cadres had also conspired to commit various terrorist activities, including murders, arson, and violent attacks, with an aim to creating terror in society, especially among businessmen and contractors,” the agency said.

The anti-terror agency on Monday chargesheeted a key associate of jailed gangster Aman Sahu in a case of firing, extortion and arson at a coal mine in Latehar in Jharkhand, the agency said in a statement.

</excerpt>

A passenger train derailed early Tuesday morning, causing two deaths and injuring 20 others. The accident happened around 3:43 am near Charadharpur in Jharkhand, between Rajkharswan West Outer and Barabamboo.

Initial reports indicate that 18 coaches of the train derailed. This included 16 passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car. Officials stated that the derailment occurred when a goods train coming from the opposite direction went off the tracks and collided with the passenger train.

All injured passengers have received first aid, and a bus service is taking them to Chakradharpur. For those seeking more information, helpline numbers are available: Mumbai – 022-22694040, Nagpur – 7757912790, and Bhusawal – 08799982712.

This incident is part of a troubling trend of train derailments this month. On July 18, a derailment of the Dibrugarh Express in Uttar Pradesh resulted in four deaths and about 20 injuries. Shortly after, a goods train derailed near Amroha, disrupting the Delhi-Lucknow rail line, though there were no reported injuries or deaths.

With the arrival of the monsoon season, road conditions across the country have worsened, and the Telgaon Panchayat area in Gumla, Jharkhand, is no exception. Despite being located just 3 km from the district headquarters, the village lacks a proper road, leaving residents to navigate challenging terrain, especially during the rainy season. The unpaved road becomes muddy and waterlogged, making it nearly impossible for villagers to commute safely.

Fed up with waiting for government intervention, the villagers decided to take matters into their own hands. They collaborated to repair the 3 km stretch of road from Phulwar Toli to Chaha Barha Toli. Men, women, youth, and children all participated in the effort, collecting donations to cover the costs of tractors, raw materials, and other necessary expenses.

Rekha Kujur, a resident of the village, explained that the community had repeatedly informed the local administration and representatives about the deteriorating road conditions through written applications. However, their pleas went unanswered. “Every time we appeal to the local representatives, they only give assurances and exploit us, but the work is never done,” she said.

Another villager, Namita Lakra, highlighted the dangers posed by the poor road conditions, noting that several people had accidents. “We have now managed to construct a better passable road, but we hope that the government will construct a concrete road here soon which will make commuting much easier for everyone,” Lakra added.

The Jharkhand villagers’ efforts to improve their infrastructure underscore a broader issue in rural India, where inadequate road conditions continue to hinder daily life and economic activities. As the monsoon rains exacerbate these challenges, the residents of Telgaon Panchayat hope that their initiative will prompt the government to take swift action to provide a more permanent solution.

</excerpt>

Over 15 individuals, including six police officers, were injured during a clash between law enforcement and tribal students in Jharkhand’s Pakur district, officials reported on Saturday.

The altercation occurred on Friday night when police arrived at the KKM College campus to investigate an abduction case.

Students from a tribal hostel on the campus allegedly protested the police presence, leading to a confrontation between the officers and the students.

The BJP accused the police of brutally assaulting tribal students who were planning to protest against Bangladeshi infiltration in the Maheshpur area on Saturday. The party demanded action against the involved officers.

Hostel students claimed that about 10 inmates were severely beaten by the police and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital in Pakur.

A student alleged that the police forcibly entered the college campus despite objections. “They also spoke about our proposed rally and said students should not indulge in politics,” the student said, requesting anonymity.

Pakur Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar stated that the incident was unrelated to the Adivasi Chatra Sangh’s planned rally, which had already been approved by the sub-divisional officer.

“The Town police station received information from a parent on Friday night that his son had been abducted and was being taken towards Tinpahar. The boy’s mobile location was traced near KKM College. A patrolling van with a sub-inspector, a constable, and a driver was sent to the location,” Kumar told PTI.

Police questioned individuals in the area but found no trace of the boy. They then entered the open college gate and began investigating on campus.

“When police asked a hostel inmate about the case, he questioned their authority to enter the premises without permission. This led to a heated exchange,” the SP explained.

The student then returned with a group of hostel inmates armed with hockey sticks and lathis, who attacked the sub-inspector and constable. The officers managed to escape, but the students also damaged their vehicle.

A second police force, led by Town police station in-charge Anup Raushan Bhengra, was dispatched but was also attacked, resulting in injuries to six officers.

Students claimed the police have filed an FIR against 100 hostel inmates.

Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Amar Bauri, accused the Hemant Soren government of excessive violence against tribals.

“Muslim infiltrators took over tribal land in Gaybathan, Maheshpur. When landowners protested, they were beaten. Tribal groups in Pakur planned a rally on Saturday. Instead of targeting infiltrators, police attacked students in the KKM College hostel,” Bauri alleged.

BJP state president Babulal Marandi emphasized the threat of Bangladeshi infiltration to Jharkhand’s identity and existence. “Take strict action by filing a case against all the policemen involved in this incident. Pakur deputy commissioner should make proper arrangements for the treatment of all the injured students,” Marandi posted on social media.
