The biscuit features the iconic ‘Parle G’ and is intricately designed. Netizens reacted, calling it a ‘premium version’ of the biscuit, with a price tag above Rs. 2 lakh.
</excerpt>

A recent viral video has taken nostalgia to the next level, featuring a gold version of the beloved Parle-G biscuit. NK Jewellers, a popular jewellery brand, posted the video on Instagram, showcasing a 26-gram Parle G-themed gold biscuit with a 916% hallmark. The 22-carat gold biscuit mirrors the iconic snack, with ‘Parle G’ inscribed in the center and a decorative border inspired by the milk and wheat biscuit.

In the video, a staff member from the jeweller’s store proudly displays the hollow gold item, showing both sides of its realistic design. The post has gained tremendous traction on social media since January, amassing over four lakh likes and numerous comments from amused netizens. Reactions included calling it a ‘Premium version of Parle G’ and replacing ‘G’ with ‘Genius’ or ‘Gold’.

</excerpt>

If you’ve ever wondered how to clean your gold and silver jewellery, there’s no need to spend a fortune at professional cleaning services. You can easily clean them at home using a traditional method that has been passed down through generations. For centuries, villagers and goldsmiths have relied on the natural nut called andolekai to clean panchaloha, including gold, silver, and copper.

To clean your jewellery, start by soaking the andolekai nut in water for a while. After a few minutes, rub it on your hand to create a foam similar to soap. Use this foam to clean your jewellery. The foam-producing trees that bear this nut naturally grow along the coast, although their numbers have been declining in recent years.

Historically, this method was commonly used in gold shops, as gold and silver jewellery tends to tarnish over time or with lack of use. The blackened ornaments were cleaned using this natural soap to restore their shine and remove any dirt.

In recent years, however, machines have largely replaced this traditional cleaning method. Despite this shift, the practice of cleaning certain ornaments, particularly those of deities, continues today using the andolekai nut.

In a bizarre turn of events, a 32-year-old woman has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth lakhs from a well-known social media influencer. The woman was apprehended from Manali, Himachal Pradesh, along with her husband, and police recovered 100 grams of gold ornaments from her residence in Haryana, according to an officer on Thursday.

The Crime Unfolds: Influencer Robbed by a ‘Fan’

The case came to light when the influencer approached the police with an unusual complaint. He alleged that a woman, posing as a fan on social media, had robbed him during a photoshoot.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan, the incident occurred on September 18 when the woman insisted on meeting the influencer, requesting to take photos and videos with his expensive gold jewellery. The influencer, eager to oblige his fan, invited her to his office in Chattarpur, South Delhi.

During the meeting, the woman asked him to wear his gold jewellery and pose for pictures. While the influencer complied, the woman saw an opportunity when he got busy on a phone call. She quickly fled the scene, taking with her 100 grams of the influencer’s gold ornaments.

CCTV Leads to Arrest in Manali

The police launched an investigation immediately after the influencer reported the theft. Officers reviewed CCTV footage and managed to trace the woman’s location to Manali, Himachal Pradesh. A team was dispatched to apprehend the suspect and her husband. Upon searching her residence in Jhajjar, Haryana, the police recovered the stolen gold ornaments.

The woman is currently in police custody, and further investigation into the matter is underway, according to the DCP.

Other Cases of Crimes Involving Social Media Aspirants

In a separate but somewhat related incident, a 26-year-old man with aspirations of becoming a social media influencer was arrested for committing a string of burglaries in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area between June 5 and August 26. Identified as Vivek Kumar Gupta, he was arrested along with his associate, Vikhyat Sharma, 22, after committing at least six burglaries.

Police recovered 12 expensive imported watches, seven bottles of perfume, and three pairs of sunglasses—all items that were purchased with the proceeds from the burglaries. Investigators painstakingly analyzed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, which ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

The Rise of Social Media Crime

The two cases highlight the darker side of the rapidly growing world of social media influencers, where the desire for fame and wealth can sometimes result in criminal activity. Both incidents serve as a reminder that not everything is as glamorous as it seems in the digital realm.

</excerpt>

Recently Tata Group’s jewellery brand Tanishq celebrated three decades of its presence in Delhi with an event at Pullman Aerocity in New Delhi. What was special about this event was that the customers of Tanishq walked the ramp wearing its jewellery pieces. It was a night of where Tanishq’s customers shone brightly, showcasing exquisite jewellery that symbolized their unique stories and special moments.

According to Arun Narayan, VP – Category, Marketing & Retail, Tanishq, Titan Company Limited, “As we celebrate the remarkable milestone of being embraced by 811,404 Delhi families, we are filled with gratitude and humility. It is an honour to be part of your cherished moments, to have adorned your brides, and to have celebrated your milestones.

This evening is dedicated to celebrating patrons, who will lead the fashion show adorned in the finest Tanishq jewellery pieces. Thank you, Delhi, for making us a part of your family.”
The event showcased three collections- Rivaah, Exotic India and Natural Diamonds.

Wedding-exclusive collection titled Rivaah featured pieces handcrafted with intricate details of Chikankari, Picchwai, Zardozi, Polkis. The ‘Exotic India’ collection highlighted Jadau designs crafted in Bikaner, Victorian Polki necklaces adorned with uncut Polkis that blended European elegance with Indian artistry, and regal Rajwada Kundan necklaces narrating tales of regal grandeur. The collection also celebrated the vibrant colours through Meenakari art and inlay work featuring Chalcedony centerpiece.

The ‘Best of Natural Diamonds’ collection had three distinct categories – Ethereal Wonders dazzled with rare stones like aquamarine, tanzanite, pastel tourmalines, and rare citrines and featured statement pieces with emeralds and sapphires. The Enchanted trails collection drew inspiration from beauty of nature such as flowing rivers, interplay of light and water, the allure of blooming flowers, the graceful movement of branches, and the whispers of lush forest foliage. The collection showcased the dance of boats gliding through serene streams, echoing the poetry of nature’s tranquillity. The Hearts and Arrows line offered perfectly cut diamond solitaires in earrings, rings, and solitaire strings.

With gold prices continuing its rise, Tanishq has been working on innovations to create designs with lower weights. Says Narayan, “This year for Akshaya Tritiya which is a very traditional occasion we launched a collection of lightweight wearable jewellery called GlamDays. We are constantly working to further bring down the weight of the jewellery using hard gold alloys which are light in weight and the pocket. The foundation of our brand is wearable jewellery for everyday essentials.”

</excerpt>

The Julius Baer Lifestyle Index, part of the 2024 Julius Baer Global Wealth and Lifestyle Report, examines the spending behaviors of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) worldwide. Released recently, the index highlights a notable economic and lifestyle surge observed in 2023. It analyzes 12 categories of consumer goods and 8 services that represent discretionary spending by HNWIs.

According to the Julius Baer report, prices increased across almost all categories in the index last year. The exceptions were bicycles, which globally saw a significant 6.4% decrease, along with slight drops in whisky and business class flights.

“The greatest price increases this year are for premium consumer items such as fashion and jewellery, where pricing has been rising steeply for several years,” said the lifestyle index.

In Mumbai, jewellery prices rose by 19%, while women’s handbags increased by 5.8%.

The reduction in the cost of business class flights globally, by 1.7% in 2023, can be attributed to the normalization of travel post-pandemic. High demand during the pandemic had driven flight prices up sharply, and the decrease in prices now reflects a return to more typical travel patterns.

The report notes that the largest price increases were seen in premium consumer items like fashion and jewellery, consistent with trends of recent years.

For instance, jewellery prices globally rose by 9.6%, while women’s shoes and men’s suits saw increases of 9.3%. This trend underscores a significant uptick in the pricing of luxury consumer goods despite some consumer resistance to price hikes.

In regions such as Asia, there was a notable 14% decline in the cost of business class flights over the past year, marking the most significant reduction among all categories in this year’s rankings. This decline is viewed as a correction from the exceptionally high fares observed in 2022 and early 2023.

In Europe and the Middle East, HNWIs concentrated their spending on premium products like designer clothing, jewellery, and luxury watches, contributing to the observed price increases in these categories.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Police uncovered a novel style of theft orchestrated by Rajesh Kapoor, who managed to execute robberies at airports across India, boarding over 200 flights and traveling extensively within the country for over 100 days in 2023. This modus operandi came to light when multiple passengers reported significant losses of valuables from their luggage.

Kapoor’s arrest in Delhi’s Paharganj followed a meticulous investigation involving the scrutiny of CCTV footage from airports in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Amritsar. His method involved targeting passengers with connecting flights, particularly focusing on elderly and female travelers. Kapoor would observe their behavior, sometimes even obtaining details about the valuables in their luggage from baggage declaration slips.

The accused would strategically request seat changes to position himself near the targeted passenger, often pretending to adjust bags in the overhead compartments during boarding. He would then discreetly steal jewelry and other valuables while passengers were distracted.

To evade detection, Kapoor provided fake contact information during flight bookings, ensuring his phone number was registered under someone else’s name. Despite running a guest house and other businesses in Delhi, he managed to successfully steal from passengers at airports across the country, amassing a significant amount of stolen jewelry.

Kapoor’s arrest sheds light on a sophisticated form of theft within highly secured airport premises, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies.

According to the Kolkata Police, they seized over Rs. 8 crore in cash and jewellery from a businessman’s flat and a car parked at an upscale housing complex in West Bengal’s Howrah district. They added that around 20 crore was discovered in his two bank accounts, both of which have been frozen.

“₹2.2 crore cash and gold and silver jewellery were seized from a car, which was parked in the garage of Clubtown Riverdale early on Sunday. Later in the evening police raided another flat that belongs to the businessman Shailesh Pandey from where ₹5.95 crore cash was seized,” said a police officer.

Canara Bank officials filed a police complaint in Kolkata on October 14 after discovering online transactions in two bank accounts opened in the name of companies with fictitious documents at their Nardendrapur branch.

Shailesh Pandey and his brother Arvind Pandey were arrested after an investigation by Kolkata Police’s anti-bank fraud section.

“Two bank accounts in which ₹20 crore was found have also been frozen. We are yet to arrest Shailesh Pandey and his brother Arvind Pandey. They were not in the house when the raids were conducted on Sunday,” said a second officer.

The car containing the 2.2 crore was discovered in an upscale housing complex where Arvind Pandey owns a flat. Shailesh Pandey’s flat in Howrah Shibpur was later raided by police.

Sujit Goswami, a neighbour, said police broke the locks on Shailesh Pandey’s collapsible door. “Interestingly the wooden door was not locked. Police were also amazed. There were three beds in three bedrooms. Police found cash stacked in bags hidden in all the divan beds.”
