Massive Crackdown on Terror Network: Over 50 Locations Searched Across Jammu Region

Jammu, Nov 26: In an extensive operation against terror networks, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted simultaneous raids and searches at over 50 locations across the Jammu region, targeting Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and other terror suspects. The action aims to dismantle logistics, recruitment, and funding support for banned outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

The crackdown spanned multiple districts, with nine key locations searched in Rajouri, including Thanamandi, Darhal, Kalakote, Manjakote, and Dharamsal. These efforts are tied to investigations into cases registered at Thanamandi Police Station in 2013 and Rajouri Police Station earlier this year. The cases involve a terror network allegedly active in the border districts, attempting to reactivate OGWs to facilitate militant activities.

In neighboring Poonch, 12 raids were carried out in areas like Surankote, Mandi, Poonch, Mendhar, and Gursai. Meanwhile, in Udhampur district, a sweeping operation covered 25 locations in Basantgarh, including Rai Chak, Chaka, and Ponara. Ten more raids were conducted in Reasi district, focusing on Puni, Gulabgarh, Arnas, Panassa, and Mahore-Chasana. The Udhampur searches are linked to Case FIR No. 27/2024 at Basantgarh Police Station, while Reasi operations are part of an ongoing investigation into local terror modules.

Several OGWs and suspects were apprehended during the raids, with recoveries including unaccounted cash, electronic devices, documents, weapons, and ammunition. Authorities emphasized that the searches were conducted carefully to prevent inconvenience to civilians.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) praised the successful execution of these intelligence-based operations, noting that further investigations and follow-up actions are underway. “We remain committed to dismantling terror modules and preventing attempts to disrupt peace in the region. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities and support security forces in their efforts,” the ADGP stated.

This decisive action highlights the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s intensified focus on uprooting terror networks, ensuring enhanced security and peace across the region.

J-K: Army Ambushes, Neutralises Three Terrorists in Battal

In a significant counter-terror operation, the Indian Army thwarted a terror ambush in the dense jungles of Battal, Jammu, on October 28, 2024, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists. The operation, which unfolded in the pre-dawn hours, occurred when terrorists ambushed an army convoy. Swift response from the troops led to the attackers’ retreat with no casualties among convoy personnel.

The Indian Army’s actions were bolstered by close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and the Special Operations Group (SOG), as well as valuable support from local intelligence and community members. Advanced night surveillance devices, unmanned ground vehicles, and surveillance drones were deployed, ensuring real-time tracking of the terrorists under challenging conditions and preventing any potential escape.

Special Forces were mobilized swiftly to reinforce the area, closing in on the terrorists. Tragically, Army dog Phantom sustained fatal injuries during the operation, underlining the risks faced by personnel engaged in counter-terror efforts. Ongoing Infiltration Threats Across Border Launching Pads

Following the Battal operation, Major General Sameer Srivastava, General Officer Commanding of the Army’s 10 Infantry Division, emphasized the challenges posed by over 50 terrorists reportedly stationed on launching pads across the border, attempting to infiltrate the Jammu region. He reassured that the security grid remains on high alert, prepared to counter these attempts, especially given the seasonal rise in infiltration during the winter months.

Addressing recent successful operations, Maj Gen Srivastava stated, “Our security forces are fully prepared to counter infiltration and protect civilians. Each successful operation will impact terrorism in the region.” He was joined by Brigadier Kapil Taneja, Commander of the 28 Infantry Brigade, and DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma of the Jammu-Kathua-Samba Range, emphasizing ongoing efforts to strengthen the counter-infiltration grid.

The Major General confirmed that between 50 to 60 terrorists are stationed at launching pads south of the Pir Panjal range, with intelligence indicating increasing infiltration activity. Describing the recent operation in Akhnoor as a significant achievement, he clarified that the killed terrorists were not part of a fresh infiltration attempt but were being tracked for some time. “This was a group already active in the hinterland and was ultimately exposed in the Akhnoor area,” he said.

The Indian Army also dispelled social media rumors about the use of BMP armored vehicles in the Battal operation, clarifying that the hardened vehicles were deployed only to ensure a safe close-in on the trapped terrorists. Army officials emphasized that as a professional force, the Indian Army upholds respect for all, including the mortal remains of slain terrorists, and operates with the highest standards of conduct.

Security Forces Engage in Fierce Encounter with Terrorists in Doda’s Gadi Bhagwah

Doda, July 09: Early Tuesday morning, a fierce encounter began in the Gadi Bhagwah area of Doda district. Security forces are engaged with two to three trapped terrorists. The operation, initiated based on specific intelligence, has involved heavy gunfire exchanges between the militants and the combined forces of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF.

This clash follows the successful neutralization of three terrorists on June 26, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Doda. The region has been tense since the June 11-12 terror attacks in Chatargala and Bhalesa areas.

“We received credible information about the presence of terrorists in Gadi Bhagwah. Our forces are conducting a methodical operation to eliminate the threat,” stated a senior police official. Residents have been advised to stay indoors for safety, reflecting community concerns over the security situation.

As the encounter continues, security forces remain determined to restore peace and security in Doda, addressing the persistent challenges posed by terrorism.

Anantnag Police arrest three with contraband substances

The Jammu and Kashmir Police reported that it had apprehended three people in the Anantnag district and found 9.27 kg of charas powder and 867 bottles of illicit alcohol. Following their apprehension, the Mattan police station filed a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act as well as several provisions of the Excise Act. There is currently an ongoing investigation, according to a formal statement. According to the statement, two cars, a motorcycle, and money totaling Rs 13,325 were also taken from the accused’s possession.

The statement added that Anantnag Police received information through reliable sources that a family comprising a father, Mother and son, namely Mohd Ramzan Ganai, Shahzada Akhter and Zubair Ramzan Ganai, all residents of Seer Hamdan Mattan, “under a well-planned criminal conspiracy are continuously indulging in the illegal trade of illicit alcohol as well as cannabis charas powder.”
The statement further said that the trio has concealed a huge quantity of illicit alcohol as well as illicit cannabis charas powder in specially made hideouts in their residential house and vehicles.

J-K: Three suspects detained along with war-like stores in Pulwama

During a coordinated cordon and search operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, three suspected people have been arrested, the Army said on Tuesday. Additionally, two pistols and other war-like stores have been recovered.

In a post on X, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said that a joint cordon and search operation was launched following “specific intelligence inputs” by the Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir police on December 25 at Panzu and Gamiraj in Pulwama.

“Three suspected individuals have been apprehended with recovery of 02xPistol and other war-like stores,” the Chinar Corps added in the post.
Joint interrogation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police is in progress, it added.

Baramulla: Last rites of former J-K cop shot dead by terrorists

The last rites for Mohd Shafi, a former senior Jammu and Kashmir Police officer who was shot dead by terrorists on Sunday while praying at a mosque, were held in Baramulla. Safi’s family members and the villagers offered prayers as their final act of respect. Unidentified terrorists on Sunday opened fire on the former police officer as he was praying at a mosque in the Baramulla district of Gantmulla. This occurred amid the ongoing search for terrorists in the Rajouri forests following an ambush attack that resulted in the deaths of four soldiers.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, National Conference MP Farooq Abdullah said that terrorism will not end through the army or police.
“We were part of India, are part of India and will remain part of India. If we have to end terrorism, we’ve got to find ways through which it can be ended. The government should think that terrorism will not end through the army or police,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the family members of the deceased retired police officer mourned his loss.

Abdulkareem Mir, the younger brother of Shafi, said, “He was the senior superintendent of police (SSP) and retired from service in 2012. He was a regular at the mosque for ‘Aazan’. However, this morning, Shafi (the muezzin, who calls fellow Muslims to prayer) stopped suddenly in between his call for Aazan. At first, we thought that the microphone had stopped working. However, later, we learned to our absolute shock and dismay that he had been fatally shot.”
Meanwhile, the area was cordoned off in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

NIA Conducts Raids at 8 Locations in Jammu and Kashmir Over Terror Funding Investigation

In a bold move, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated raids at eight locations across Jammu and Kashmir in connection to a terror funding case. The ongoing operations, being executed in close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), are being conducted at seven spots in Kashmir and one in Jammu, according to informed sources.

The agency’s sleuths are conducting extensive searches in areas like Shopian and Baramulla, targeting residences and suspected hideouts linked to individuals associated with the case. These raids come shortly after the recent arrest of a suspect involved in Pakistan-backed terrorism. The case revolves around the supply of weapons via drones to active militants in Kashmir.

Following the arrest of Zakir Hussain from Kathua district on November 27 by the NIA Jammu Branch, the agency had received vital inputs on November 29. Hussain is the latest among eight accused apprehended in the case registered by the NIA on July 30 last year, subsequent to taking over from Kathua Police.

While seven accused were arrested previously, one passed away due to cardiac arrest during judicial custody. Additionally, two Pakistan-based terror operatives remain at large. The NIA is intensifying its investigations to unravel a larger conspiracy involving Pakistan-backed terrorist groups aimed at executing acts of terror and violence in Kashmir and across India.

An official statement issued by the Army highlighted the apprehension of two individuals on Monday after the recovery of arms and ammunition in Kupwara district, emphasizing the army’s ongoing high alertness on the Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Their continuous efforts are aimed at thwarting infiltration attempts originating from Pakistan.

Describing the LoC as a crucial barrier, the official noted its history of past infiltrations and security threats. The Indian Army’s consistent preparedness and resilience in countering these attempts were emphasized, attributing their success to extensive training, sophisticated surveillance systems, and strategic planning, thereby creating a multi-layered defense mechanism to deter potential infiltrations effectively.

Anantnag encounter: Drones, quadcopters being used by the military to find terrorists

Drones and quadcopters were used on Friday to locate and neutralize the gunmen in the ongoing gunfight between a combined team of security personnel from the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police and terrorists in the Kokernag area of the Anantnag district. The gunfight has now lasted three days in a row.
Officials claim that drones and quadcopters are helping the security forces involved in the operation, which began on Wednesday, in their continuous search for the terrorists.

In the current gunbattle in the Anantnag area, an Army Colonel who was leading a Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Rashtriya Rifles was killed. In the Kokernag area, enemy fire also claimed the lives of an Army Major and a Deputy Superintendent from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The deceased DSP, Major Ashish Dhonak, and Colonel Manpreet Singh were all top Army officers. Humayun Bhat was the third victim.
Major Aashish Dhonchak’s lifeless remains were sent to his Panipat home early on Friday.

J&K: Terrorist who shot dead Kashmiri Pandit eliminated in encounter

The terrorist who killed Kashmiri Pandit, Sanjay Sharma was eliminated in an encounter, Kashmir Zone Police informed on Tuesday. The terrorist is identified as Aqib Mustaq Bhat, who served as the Resistance Front, the police reported.

Earlier, he was associated with Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit. Recently, the Kashmiri zone police took to their twitter and penned, “AwantiporaEncounterUpdate: Killed #terrorist identified as Aqib Mustaq Bhat of #Pulwama (A category). He initially worked for HM #terror outfit, nowadays he had been working with TRF. #Killer of late Sanjay Sharma #neutralised: ADGP Kashmir @JmuKmrPolice.”

Notably, Sharma, served as a security guard at a bank where he was shot dead by terrorists in Achan area of Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday morning.

During a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists opened fire which hit a hybrid terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) who was with the search party for the identification of a terrorist hideout, according to the information Jammu and Kashmir police.

Sajjad Tantray, a LeT hybrid terrorist, was from Kulgam. “LeT hybrid terrorist Sajjad Tantray of Kulgam, who was with the search group to identify a hiding, was hit by terrorist fire when the search party approached the suspected hideout. When he was transported to the hospital, the doctors pronounced him dead “police in Jammu and Kashmir stated.

According to the J-K police, hybrid militant Sajjad Tantray, who was formerly a LeT militant associate, admitted to attacking two outside labourers on November 13 of this year.

The J&K Police said, “During investigation hybrid militant Sajjad Tantray, who was earlier a militant associate of LeT and released from PSA, revealed that he’d attacked two outside labourers on Nov 13 this year at Rakhmomen, Bijbehara in Anantnag who were seriously injured.”

Earlier in the day, an encounter broke out at the Cheki Dudoo area of Bijbehara in the Anantnag district, informed the J-K police.
“Encounter started at Cheki Dudoo area of Bijbehara in Anantnag district. Police and Army are on the job. Details shall follow,” Tweeted Kashmir Zone Police.
