Pakistan ‘Clueless’, Says Bilawal Bhutto in Explosive Interview

<excerpt>Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari claims Masood Azhar may be hiding in Afghanistan, not in Pakistan. He says Islamabad would gladly arrest him if India shares credible intelligence.
</excerpt>

Pakistan’s previous Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has ignited new controversy by saying that Islamabad doesn’t know the location of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar. During an interview with Al Jazeera, Bhutto went on to say that Azhar, a UN-listed international terrorist, might be staying in Afghanistan.

“As much as Masood Azhar is concerned, we have not been able to arrest him or locate him. Considering his history in the Afghan jihad situation, it is our notion that he is located in Afghanistan,” Bhutto stated.

In a bombshell admission, top Pakistani politician Bilawal Bhutto tells me his government is unclear of the whereabouts of the UN-designated terrorist Masood Azhar.

Azhar’s group is said to be behind some of the deadliest attacks on India.

Watch my full interview with Bilawal… pic.twitter.com/BfPWW2Xaqv

Bhutto Claims Masood Azhar May Be in Afghanistan, Not Pakistan

Bhutto’s remarks come a little over two months after Indian airstrikes as part of Operation Sindoor attacked terror camps in Bahawalpur, in which Azhar was said to have had a narrow escape with death. Missile attacks reportedly killed some members of his family.

In the interview, Bilawal Bhutto made a response to charges that Pakistan harbors terrorists. On Hafiz Saeed, the Lashkar-e-Taiba founder and 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind, Bhutto stated, “That is factually incorrect that Hafiz Saeed is a free man. He is in the custody of the Pakistani state.”

In response to queries regarding Pakistan’s hesitation in taking action against Azhar, Bhutto stressed that Islamabad would be willing to cooperate, as long as New Delhi provides it with credible intelligence.

“If and when the Indian government provides us with information that he is on Pakistani soil, we would be more than happy to arrest him. Bhutto also defended Pakistan’s strategy for counterterrorism cooperation.”

“When you have a CT (counterterrorism) cooperation with any state, we give groups of our concern, they give groups of their concern,” he clarified.

Masood Azhar remains one of India’s most wanted terrorists, having masterminded and carried out major attacks such as the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the 2019 Pulwama bombing that killed 40 CRPF personnel.

India has traditionally insisted that Azhar works from within Pakistani territory with state institution backing. But Bhutto’s recent comments seem to place blame on Afghanistan, which could strain Islamabad-Kabul relations while diverting international pressure.

With diplomatic tensions ongoing, the ball now remains in India’s court over whether to pass on more intelligence or step up international pressure on Pakistan to move against Azhar.

</excerpt>

A Pakistani delegation headed by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was diplomatically embarrassed in Washington when US Congressman Brad Sherman brought up the 2002 murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl. Sherman firmly called upon the Pakistani officials to act decisively against the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), which had kidnapped and killed Pearl.

“Eliminate this despicable group,” says Sherman

After the meeting, Sherman tweeted on X: “I reminded the Pakistani delegation of the need to fight terrorism, and specifically the organization Jaish-e-Mohammed, who killed my constituent Daniel Pearl in 2002.”

He went on to say, “Pakistan must do everything it can to eradicate this odious organization and fight terrorism in the area.” He also reminded that Daniel Pearl’s family continues to live in his congressional district.

Daniel Pearl’s horrifying murder

Daniel Pearl, a Wall Street Journal reporter, was kidnapped and ruthlessly killed in Pakistan. British-born terrorist Omar Saeed Sheikh was found guilty of murdering Pearl, whose death had caused international condemnation and emphasized Pakistan’s battle against terror.

Sherman’s appeal resonates with traditional US concerns

Sherman’s comments further indicate ongoing US unease about the way Pakistan has handled groups like the JeM operating in its territory. Moreover, his public clash with the Pakistani leadership highlights the mounting pressure on Islamabad to contain terror groups like JeM, which have long been associated with regional instability.

</excerpt>

India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Vikram Doraiswami, rekindled the age-old controversy of Pakistan’s state-sponsored terrorism by revealing irrefutable photographic evidence. In an interview with Sky News, Doraiswami held up a poster-sized photograph showing senior Pakistani military leaders alongside Hafiz Abdur Rauf—a sanctioned US terrorist and brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar—at the funeral of terrorists martyred during India’s Operation Sindoor.

“Let me show you this photograph from yesterday,” Doraiswami explained, holding up the photo. “I believe it is for your viewers. This person here is a sanctioned terrorist under the American sanctions regime. His name is Hafiz Abdur Rauf. He’s a brother of the founder of the terrorist group that you’re mentioning. Look who is behind him. Pakistani military. Look at the coffins there. They have the Pakistani national flag. If you’re going to be giving terrorists state funerals, what does that make of your system?”

Listen to India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami’s response to the claims ⬇️https://t.co/ycn98YBY36 pic.twitter.com/wi3dpBDpgK

— Sky News (@SkyNews) May 8, 2025

The photograph was also circulated in a press briefing in New Delhi, as India doubled down on its longstanding position that Pakistan’s military establishment not only harbours but officially supports terrorist outfits.

Context: India’s Retaliatory Strikes

The High Commissioner’s disclosure followed shortly after India conducted a series of airstrikes against nine terror infrastructure locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The precision attacks were a direct retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians on April 22.

One of the most important targets was the Jaish-e-Mohammed headquarters in Bahawalpur, a city in Pakistan’s Punjab province long identified by Indian intelligence as a hotbed of terrorist activity. The BJP even put out a social media graphic featuring Abdul Rauf Azhar—Masood Azhar’s brother—with the word “eliminated” stamped across his face.

Historical Pattern of Complicity

Abdul Rauf Azhar was no ordinary individual; his record is tainted with involvement in significant terror attacks. He masterminded the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 2016 Pathankot airbase attack. During the Kandahar hijacking, India was forced to release Masood Azhar in return for 190 hostages—an action that highlighted the serious cost of Pakistan-backed terrorism.

Doraiswami also rejected Islamabad’s appeals for international probes by invoking previous incidents. He reminded how India had allowed Pakistani investigators into the Pathankot airbase following the 2016 attack, something Pakistan never did in return. He also invoked the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which had been handed over to Pakistan with copious evidence but never prosecuted by Pakistan to their full potential.

</excerpt>

Indian forces launched precision strikes as part of Operation Sindoor with a focused objective — to target senior leadership of terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, sources told ANI.

According to these sources, the locations hit in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) were carefully chosen to eliminate key figures responsible for orchestrating terrorist activities against India. These strikes were carried out in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including one Nepali national.

As per earlier statements from the Ministry of Defence, the operation was designed to be “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” ensuring that no Pakistani military infrastructure was harmed.

The Indian government has reiterated its resolve to hold all those accountable for sponsoring cross-border terrorism. A detailed official briefing on the outcome of the strikes is expected later today.

</excerpt>

Jammu, Nov 26: In an extensive operation against terror networks, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted simultaneous raids and searches at over 50 locations across the Jammu region, targeting Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and other terror suspects. The action aims to dismantle logistics, recruitment, and funding support for banned outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

The crackdown spanned multiple districts, with nine key locations searched in Rajouri, including Thanamandi, Darhal, Kalakote, Manjakote, and Dharamsal. These efforts are tied to investigations into cases registered at Thanamandi Police Station in 2013 and Rajouri Police Station earlier this year. The cases involve a terror network allegedly active in the border districts, attempting to reactivate OGWs to facilitate militant activities.

In neighboring Poonch, 12 raids were carried out in areas like Surankote, Mandi, Poonch, Mendhar, and Gursai. Meanwhile, in Udhampur district, a sweeping operation covered 25 locations in Basantgarh, including Rai Chak, Chaka, and Ponara. Ten more raids were conducted in Reasi district, focusing on Puni, Gulabgarh, Arnas, Panassa, and Mahore-Chasana. The Udhampur searches are linked to Case FIR No. 27/2024 at Basantgarh Police Station, while Reasi operations are part of an ongoing investigation into local terror modules.

Several OGWs and suspects were apprehended during the raids, with recoveries including unaccounted cash, electronic devices, documents, weapons, and ammunition. Authorities emphasized that the searches were conducted carefully to prevent inconvenience to civilians.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) praised the successful execution of these intelligence-based operations, noting that further investigations and follow-up actions are underway. “We remain committed to dismantling terror modules and preventing attempts to disrupt peace in the region. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities and support security forces in their efforts,” the ADGP stated.

This decisive action highlights the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s intensified focus on uprooting terror networks, ensuring enhanced security and peace across the region.

</excerpt>

In a significant development, the Kathua Police have made a major breakthrough in the Kathua July 08 terror attack case by dismantling a key Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) support network operating in the Jammu region.

The police have arrested two pivotal supporters of the JeM terrorists, identified as Liyaqat and Raj, from the remote Malhar area. These individuals played a crucial role in aiding a group of 6-8 JeM terrorists who infiltrated India from Pakistan.

Liyaqat and Raj were instrumental in establishing communication channels between the infiltrated terrorists and their handlers across the border. They provided internet access to the terrorists on multiple occasions, significantly facilitating their operational capabilities and communication strategies.

The arrest of Liyaqat and Raj marks a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation and counter-terrorism efforts in the region. The authorities are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend any additional members of the support network to prevent further terror activities.

A terrorist associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Tahreek-e-Taliban has been arrested by the anti-terrorist squad (ATS) from Saharanpur. During the interrogation, the terrorist confessed that he was given the task of killing Nupur Sharma.

According to the information, ATS has arrested a terrorist associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Tahreek-e-Taliban from Saharanpur. The ATS has identified him as Muhammad Nadeem.
