His absence from the commentary team has been felt not only by fans but also by his fellow cricketers.

He led India Masters to victory in the inaugural International Masters League last month with a crucial performance. Pathan scored six wickets and 113 runs in five innings as the team secured their historic victory.

Sidhu’s Emotional Tribute at Wankhede Goes Viral

A touching moment unfolded during the IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. In the commentary box, Navjot Singh Sidhu shared a heartfelt message for Irfan Pathan. During the Hindi broadcast, Sidhu said, “Irfan meri jaan hai bhai, kitna achha ladka hai, usey abhi bohot miss karta hu.”

Irfan Pathan keeps inspiring through his work, validating his connection with cricket and fans stronger than before.

The Reason Behind Irfan Pathan’s Absence from IPL Commentary

March 25, 2025, 5:28 pm

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has been left out of the IPL 2025 commentary panel, reportedly due to allegations of personal bias. His exclusion has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the decision and whether it was influenced by internal politics within the cricketing fraternity.

Controversial Commentary Clip Leads to Backlash

Pathan’s removal from the panel comes in the wake of a viral commentary clip where he made remarks that some claim were critical of certain players and teams. The video, which gained significant traction on social media, led to speculations that Pathan’s commentary style was not well received by certain stakeholders in the league.

Adding to the intrigue, reports suggest that Pathan’s close association with Gautam Gambhir, who has had his fair share of run-ins with several high-profile cricketers, might have played a role in his exclusion. Many fans and analysts argue that Pathan has been unfairly targeted for simply expressing his views on the game.

Reacting to his removal, Pathan took to social media, expressing his disappointment. He emphasized his commitment to providing unbiased and insightful commentary, arguing that his remarks were purely analytical and not meant to favor or undermine any player or team. While he refrained from making direct accusations, his statement hinted at deeper issues within the cricketing ecosystem, where voices that challenge the status quo often face repercussions.

Previous Instances of Commentators Facing the Heat

Pathan’s exclusion is not the first instance where an Indian commentator has faced backlash. Several notable commentators have found themselves in controversy over the years:

Harsha Bhogle (2016): The renowned commentator was sidelined from IPL commentary after allegedly being critical of certain Indian players. His exclusion sparked widespread outrage, with many arguing that he was removed for simply doing his job.

Sanjay Manjrekar (2020): Known for his blunt opinions, Manjrekar was briefly removed from the commentary panel following his controversial remarks about Ravindra Jadeja, where he called him a “bits and pieces” player.

Navjot Singh Sidhu (2019): The former cricketer-turned-commentator was removed from a broadcasting panel following political controversies.

Pathan’s exclusion has reignited discussions on whether the IPL’s broadcasting space is becoming increasingly controlled. With past instances of commentators being sidelined for their opinions, questions arise over the degree of freedom commentators have in expressing their views. Many believe that cricket commentary should remain independent and free from political and corporate influence.

As IPL 2025 progresses, it remains to be seen whether Pathan will be reinstated or if his exclusion marks a broader shift in how commentary is managed in the league. Meanwhile, his removal continues to be a talking point, with fans and analysts debating the fairness of the decision.

Irfan Pathan Dropped from IPL 2025 Commentary Amid Allegations of Bias and Fiery Player Feud!

March 23, 2025, 5:06 pm

Ex-Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has been excluded from the commentary team for IPL 2025, according to reports, based on allegations of partiality and personal vendettas against some players. Pathan, who has been a regular feature in English as well as Hindi commentary, was not selected by the broadcasters, which was an unexpected exclusion from this year’s team.

Pathan was left out, according to a report in The Times of India, because broadcasters were not pleased with his social media conduct, where he supposedly singled out particular players and inserted personal differences into his commentary.

Allegations of Bias and Taking ‘Potshots’ at Players

Close sources to the development indicated that Pathan had a confrontation with some players some years ago, and ever since, he has persistently mentioned them aggressively in his commentary. The reported action is said to have caused unease among broadcasters, with his comments dragging younger players into previous disputes.

“Pathan had a falling out with a couple of players some years ago. Ever since then, he has not hesitated to mention them in aggressive tones. The issue was brought up that other young players were caught in the middle of the fight. He has been accused of making potshots at them on social networking sites even if he did not mention them,” sources informed The Times of India.

This perceived personal prejudice created issues of professionalism, eventually leading to his removal from the IPL 2025 commentary panel.

Pathan’s Response – A New Venture on YouTube

Though Pathan has not come out and directly spoken about his omission from IPL commentary, he recently started his own YouTube channel, indicating a change in his cricket-based content. His breaking away to an independent platform means that he might continue to provide his cricket analysis without broadcaster censorship.

Not the First Controversy Over Commentary Snub

Pathan’s omission is not the first instance of a well-known commentator experiencing backlash and ouster based on player grievances.

In 2020, ex-Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was dismissed from BCCI’s commentary team for India’s ODI series against South Africa. His contentious “bits and pieces” comment regarding Ravindra Jadeja during the 2019 ODI World Cup resulted in criticism, ultimately resulting in the loss of his role.

Following his removal, Manjrekar acknowledged the decision with a social media post:

“I have always thought of commentary as a big privilege, but never a right. It is for my employers to decide if they want me or not & I will always be respectful of that. Perhaps BCCI has not been satisfied with my recent performance. I take that on the chin as a professional,” he said.

Pathan’s situation, though, appears different since the controversy is based on personal rivalries and not just on-air comments.

What’s Next for Pathan?

With his IPL 2025 commentary suspension, only time will reveal whether Pathan will make a comeback in future editions. His transition to YouTube suggests that he is exploring independent platforms to share his cricket insights.

Even though IPL’s broadcasters have chosen a new direction, Pathan’s devoted fans might still tune in to his analysis—now on his own conditions.

‘If You Don’t Let Me Talk…’: Explosive Sanjay Manjrekar-Irfan Pathan Face-Off On Live TV | WATCH

December 27, 2024, 3:06 pm

Day 4 of the 4th Test between India and Australia saw a crucial 102-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli that revived India’s chances. However, the partnership ended in an unfortunate mix-up, leading to Jaiswal’s dismissal. The confusion over a risky single left fans and experts divided over who was at fault—Jaiswal for calling the run or Kohli for declining it.

Manjrekar vs Pathan: A Heated Post-Match Debate

During the post-day show on Star Sports, former cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan clashed over the incident. Manjrekar argued that Virat Kohli should have trusted Jaiswal’s call, as the latter was running to the danger end. “It was a schoolboy error from Kohli to look back and decide against the run,” Manjrekar asserted.

— Pushkar (@Musafirr_hu_yar) December 27, 2024

Pathan countered, suggesting that Kohli’s decision to decline the run was justified given the ball’s speed towards Pat Cummins. “A non-striker has the right to refuse a risky run if they feel it’s unsafe,” he said. The exchange became intense, with Manjrekar sarcastically suggesting that Pathan’s view should be added to coaching manuals.

Sanjay Manjrekar also linked Kohli’s subsequent dismissal to the guilt he might have felt after Jaiswal’s run-out, saying, “Kohli lost focus after the incident, which contributed to his wicket.”

The debate has since become a talking point among cricket fans, highlighting the emotional stakes and nuances of on-field decisions in high-pressure matches.

‘Bolne Ki Tameez’: Harbhajan Singh Criticizes Pakistani Fan, Watch

August 2, 2024, 10:16 am

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, August 2, to criticize a Pakistani fan who shared a video alleging that Babar Azam refused to give an interview to Irfan Pathan during the ODI World Cup 2023 match in India. Harbhajan, one of India’s greatest cricketers, was displeased with the language used by the Pakistani fan in the viral post and called him out for it.

In a tweet that has since gained significant attention, Harbhajan Singh wrote, “Where is @IrfanPathan in this video?? Bolne ki tameez to aap logo ko pehle hi nahi thi. Ab aankho se dikhna bi bandh ho gya kya? Waise bi agar angreji mai swal pooch liya to pange pad jayenge.” Pakistan traveled to India last year to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Green played two matches each in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata, while the highly anticipated match against India took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.

Despite entering the tournament as the world No. 1 ODI team, Babar Azam’s side managed to win only four matches in the ODI World Cup 2023 and failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Pakistan began their campaign with victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka but subsequently lost momentum, suffering consecutive defeats against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.

Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar Azam stepped down from his captaincy role in all three formats. Shan Masood was appointed as Test captain, and Shaheen Shah Afridi took charge of the T20I team.

However, after a change in PCB’s management this year, Babar was reinstated as Pakistan’s T20I captain, leading the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. Unfortunately, in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan failed to advance to the Super 8s, facing humiliating defeats against the USA and India in their first two Group A matches.

Irfan Pathan’s Unique Celebration Sends Suresh Raina Tumbling After India’s WCL Win

July 14, 2024, 1:47 pm

Irfan Pathan turned back the clock with his incredible bowling, dismissing Younis Khan in the final of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) between India and Pakistan. His performance, though only taking one wicket, brought back memories of his famous hat-trick against Pakistan in 2006.

India, led by Yuvraj Singh, chased down the target of 157 runs set by Pakistan, winning the match by five wickets. Ambati Rayudu played a crucial role with his quick fifty (50 off 30 balls), while Yusuf Pathan (30 off 16 balls) and Gurkeerat Singh Mann (34 off 33 balls) made important contributions. Yuvraj (15 not out) and Irfan (5 not out) finished the job, securing the win for India.

Pakistan had earlier scored 156 for 6, with Indian bowlers, led by Anureet Singh’s three-wicket haul, doing well to limit their score. In response, India started well with a 34-run partnership between openers Robin Uthappa and Rayudu. However, Aamer Yamin’s two quick wickets put pressure on India, dismissing Uthappa (10) and Suresh Raina (4).

Rayudu and Mann then added a solid 60-run partnership before Rayudu was dismissed by Saeed Ajmal. Yusuf and Yuvraj’s partnership of 42 runs in just 5.4 overs sealed the victory for India.

The highlight of the celebration was Irfan Pathan’s unique way of shouting out each teammate’s name in a funny manner, which sent Suresh Raina tumbling over in laughter. This moment was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media, adding a joyful end to India’s triumphant day.

India’s victory in the WCL final was not just about cricket; it was about reliving old memories, enjoying the game, and celebrating as a team.

Brothers Forever: Irfan Pathan’s Adorable Gesture After a Heated Moment on the Field with Brother Yusuf Pathan Wins Internet – WATCH

July 11, 2024, 7:03 pm

In a dramatic moment at the World Championship of Legends, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was seen yelling at his older brother Yusuf Pathan after a shocking run-out dismissal. The incident occurred during India Champions’ match against South Africa Champions, where a mix-up led to Irfan getting run out at the non-striker’s end.

The heated exchange happened in the 18th over of India Champions’ run chase. Irfan hit a delivery from Dale Steyn to deep covers and attempted to take a second run. However, Yusuf, who had initially signalled for a single, raised his hand to stop Irfan from advancing further. Irfan, already halfway down the pitch, couldn’t return in time, and Steyn’s quick throw led to a run-out. Frustrated, Irfan was seen shouting at Yusuf, saying “pehle bol na” (tell me first).

Despite this on-field altercation, the brothers showed their strong bond off the field. After the game, Irfan made an endearing gesture by kissing Yusuf’s forehead and hugging him, a moment captured and shared widely on social media.

Although India Champions lost the match by 54 runs, they secured a spot in the semi-finals due to their superior net run rate, adding a positive note to the otherwise tense encounter.

Irfan, Yusuf Pathan’s On-Field Altercation Shocks Fans And Teammates

July 11, 2024, 4:16 pm

Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan, known for their strong support for each other in their cricket careers, shocked fans and teammates with a heated argument during the India vs South Africa Champions match. The incident happened during a crucial moment in the game, in the penultimate over of the Indian innings bowled by Dale Steyn.

Irfan tried to hit a big shot but only managed a top edge, sending the ball towards long-off. The fielder missed the catch but quickly threw the ball back. Irfan wanted to take a second run and had reached halfway down the pitch, but Yusuf didn’t want to run back, leading to Irfan getting run out. Frustrated, Irfan angrily confronted his brother on the field.

This surprising incident contrasts sharply with their usual display of brotherly support. Irfan had even campaigned for Yusuf during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Baharampur, West Bengal. Irfan has often expressed his love and respect for Yusuf, who took on family responsibilities when Irfan was away playing for Team India.

In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Irfan said, “I got picked for the national side first. When I was on national duty, he’d handle all responsibilities at home. Bhai is the sort who speaks less, works more.”

While emotions can run high in matches, this clash between the Pathan brothers was particularly unfortunate and unexpected.

Why Irfan Pathan Dropped Yashasvi Jaiswal From India’s T20 XI Against Ireland–Here’s The Reason

June 3, 2024, 5:36 pm

Former cricketer Irfan Pathan was one of the few experts, who supported a left-right combination at the top batting order, with this mindset, he picked Yashavi Jaiswal as captain Rohit Sharma’s opening partner.

He backed this idea so much so, that he even recommended Jaiswal as a part-time spin-bowling option, during his discussions with star sports.

But recently, Pathan took a U-turn, on his words to drop Jaiswal while deciding on the possible playing XI for the T20 world cup match against Ireland, on the basis of the conclusions he drew from warm-up match against Bangladesh.

As Jaiswal didn’t bat for India. Instead, Rohit opened with Sanju Samson due to Virat kohli’s absence.

Instead, the former T20 world cup winner picked Virat Kohli as Rohit’s opening partner, and he positioned Rishabh Pant to batter No.3 role.

As pant had hit 53 off 32 balls against Bangladesh, thus, resulting in fresh possibility of new line up for India.

Then, Irfan Pathan also added Suryakumar Yadav at position number 4, followed by inclusion of Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja orderwise.

In the bowling department, Kuldeep Yadav was designated as India team only specialist bowler. Which was followed by inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj.

However, pathan clarified, that the line-up might change, after Indian team moves to Caribbeans in knockout stage, with one pacer making way for Axar patel.

Meanwhile, India is scheduled to face Ireland in their Group A opener on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, followed by an eagerly anticipated match against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9.

‘She understands that we can’t win every match’ Irfan Pathan

April 27, 2024, 1:13 pm

Recently, India’s former all-rounder Irfan Pathan, has recently thrown light on Preity’s Zinta’s deep involvement with Punjab Kings team. During his mid-innings discussion with Star sports.

Being a player of Punjab kings in IPL for almost three years. The Indian all-rounder praised the co-owner Preity Zinta a lot, for her emotional involvement with the team’s performances. “She is a wonderful woman. She was quite involved with the team. Haarne pe pareshan ho jaati thi, bahut pareshan ho jaati hai. But she knows how to control her emotions.”- Irfan Pathan.

Further he also reminisced about Preity Zinta’s understanding of success & failures. And shared stories about her calm demeanor. “Since she was a fantastic actor, very experienced and very successful, she knows it is not easy. She knows that every movie can’t be a hit. Similarly, she understands that we can’t win every match.” elaborated Pathan.

Later making the discussion a little fun & light. He also shared the anecdote about Preity Zinta’s gesture of celebrating the win. “She once made parathas with her hands in South Africa for the team. Almost 40 parathas by hand, because we won against Chennai Super Kings. She is of a different level of team owner.” said Irfan Pathan while highlighting her hands-on approach with regard to the team.

Yesterday, Punjab kings had a remarkable run-chase courtesy the steady partnership between Johnny Bairstow and Shashank Singh. Despite Kolkata Knight Riders’s thrilling performance, Jonny Bairstow’s impressive century & Shashank impressive batting turned the match in Punjab’s Favour. Winning the match by 8 runs.

Kapil Dev, Irfan Pathan Attend ‘Jahankilla’ Screening in Mumbai

March 17, 2024, 5:05 pm

Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev and former pacer Irfan Pathan were present at the screening of the Punjabi film ‘Jahankilla’ in Mumbai.

‘Jahankilla’ narrates a captivating story of sacrifice, love, friendship, and patriotism unfolding in the rural landscapes of Punjab.

Irfan Pathan was joined by his son at the event. Additionally, Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar were also in attendance alongside Kapil Dev and Irfan Pathan.

Sharing his thoughts post the preview of the film, Kapil Dev said, “I am deeply honoured to support the talented young team behind ‘Jahankilla.’ Their dedication to storytelling and their portrayal of Punjab’s valorous spirit truly resonated with me. I believe this film not only entertains but also inspires, and I am proud to lend my support to such a meaningful project.”

Directed by Vickey Kadam, the film traces the life of Shinda, a young man from modest origins who joins the police force driven by familial sacrifices. Dedicated to the country’s first responders, the film explores themes of national integration, women’s empowerment, and youth empowerment, interweaving them to craft a compelling storyline.

Jobanpreet Singh, the lead actor stated, “I am thrilled to bring Shinda’s story to life in ‘Jahankilla.’ It’s a tale of resilience and determination that resonates deeply with audiences, showcasing the trials and triumphs of those who dare to dream against all odds.”

Sharing her excitement, Gurbani Gill stated, “Portraying Simran has been a journey of self-discovery. Her character’s strength and vulnerability are a testament to the complexities of human emotion. I’m honoured to be part of a film that celebrates love, sacrifice, and the indomitable spirit of Punjab.”

The movie is slated for a global release on March 22.

Ishan-Shreyas out of BCCI central contract, Irfan Pathan sees red

February 29, 2024, 4:38 pm

On Thursday, Irfan Pathan, a former fast bowler for India, expressed concerns regarding the BCCI’s decision to remove Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from central contracts. He also brought up the example of Hardik Pandya, who has chosen his domestic and international commitments carefully but is still an important member of the national team.

The former all-rounder expressed his optimism for Kishan and Iyer’s successful returns for Team India on X, formerly known as Twitter. Even when the BCCI put the name of star all-rounder Pandya on the contract list, he said that the standards had to apply to everyone.

“They are talented cricketers, both Shreyas and Ishan. Hoping they bounce back and come back stronger. If players like Hardik don’t want to play red-ball cricket, should he and others like him participate in white-ball domestic cricket when they aren’t on national duty? If this doesn’t apply to all, then Indian cricket won’t achieve the desired results!” Pathan posted on X.

The 2023–24 season’s contracts were revealed on Wednesday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Kishan and Iyer were two of the top names left off of the list of annual player contracts.

“Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations,” BCCI said in their statement.

The star all-rounder Pandya, who has not played for Men in Blue since suffering an injury in a match against Bangladesh World Cup 2023 match, held on to Grade A contract.

In last year’s retainer, Iyer was in Grade B while Kishan was part of Grade C.

The last time Ishan played for India was in the T20I format against Australia in Guwahati, following that he failed to make his place in the first eleven. The 25-year-old was in the T20I squad in South Africa in December 2023 but did not take part in any of the three games.

On the other hand, Iyer was dropped from the India squad for the last three Tests after playing the first two Test of the five-match series against England where he managed to score just 35 runs in the matches played at Hyderabad and Vizag.

Meanwhile, the elite bracket, Grade A+, remains the same for the year with captain Rohit Sharma, veteran batter Virat Kohli, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the top earners.

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, speedster Mohammed Shami, and Pandya retained their Grade A contracts, while KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, and Shubman Gill moved up from Grade B last year.

The top-ranked T20I hitter, Suryakumar Yadav is in Grade B along with rising phenom Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has received his maiden BCCI central contract. (ANI)

“If Rohit Sharma can conquer South Africa, his name will…”: the words of Irfan Pathan

December 12, 2023, 3:36 pm

Irfan Pathan, a former pacer for India, stated that should Rohit Sharma win the Test series against South Africa, his name will go down in cricket history as one of the greatest players and leaders of all time.

Since Rohit is both the captain and the opener for India against South Africa, Pathan predicted on Star Sports that he will be crucial to the team’s future success. It would be simpler for other hitters, according to the former speedster, if the 36-year-old could play the new ball with ease.

“If Rohit Sharma is able to conquer South Africa, his name will be kept top-most in India’s cricket history as captain and player because he only has the key to wins in both these matches. He is both an opener and a captain. If you play out the new ball, your other batters will get the chance to shine. That’s why you should remove the shine from the new ball,” Pathan said.

Irfan Pathan: RCB’s Indian batsmen must step up in IPL 2023

May 1, 2023, 4:45 pm

Revenge will be on the minds of RCB players as they go up against LSG in the reverse fixture of the Indian Premier League 2023 in Lucknow.

RCB are coming to Lucknow on the back of a crushing defeat at home against KKR, and beating LSG in their backyard isn’t going to be an easy task for RCB.

RCB Captain Faf du Plessis lost against KL Rahul and company in a high-scoring contest at home. RCB looks reliant on its top 3 batters, i.e., Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell. Their Indian players haven’t fired with the bat in IPL 2023, which is concerning, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan stated.

Irfan Pathan stated on Star Sports Cricket Live, “RCB will have to find a solution that if KGF (Kohli, Glenn, and Faf) do not work, then who will steer the team through troubled waters?” RCB’s middle order, whether it is Dinesh Karthik or Mahipal Lomror, appears to be pretty frail. In the last eight games, Karthik failed to demonstrate even once that the team could rely on him for big scores or during chases. The RCB management has to close this gap in their batting.
