</excerpt>

The military of Israel reported on Monday that it had conducted airstrikes against six airports in Iran, hitting infrastructure and military equipment as the war between the two countries reached its 11th day. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that they destroyed several planes and missile sites.

In its statement, the IDF reported that more than 15 warplanes carried out a simultaneous strike in the Kermanshah province of western Iran. Israeli intelligence believed surface-to-surface missile launch and storage facilities were aimed at Israel, so the mission targeted and aimed to eliminate them.

Several Aircraft Destroyed, Airbase Operations Interfered

The IDF announced on social media site X (previously Twitter) that its accurate airstrikes destroyed runways, subterranean bunkers, a refueling aircraft, and F-14, F-5, and AH-1 jets. The military claimed that Iran intended to use those aircraft against Israeli forces.

The IDF stated that Iran utilized Tehran’s Mehrabad, Mashhad, and Dezful airports as strategic military bases, and they targeted them accordingly.

Escalation Follows Major Israeli and US-Led Strikes

The Israeli strikes follow a massive campaign announced on June 13 that aimed at Iran’s missile defense system, nuclear installations, military commanders, and security forces. In the meantime, the US conducted Operation Midnight Hammer over the weekend, where B-2 bombers used bunker-buster bombs on Iranian nuclear facilities.

US President Donald Trump asserted the strikes had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear facilities, although US officials reported it was premature to judge the extent of the damage.

As Israeli and Iranian air attacks intensify, Tehran has threatened to retaliate, raising alarms of an increased threat of a wider regional war.

Trump confirmed the destruction of key sites, warned Iran to pursue peace, praised the US-Israel coordination, and celebrated the military’s performance, calling the operation a ‘spectacular military success’.
</excerpt>

In a bold demonstration of military might, the United States carried out airstrikes on Sunday morning against Iran’s nuclear facilities, sending advanced stealth B-2 bombers and heavy bunker-buster bombs.

Verifying the strike shortly after its conduct, President Donald Trump stated that the US had struck three of Iran’s principal nuclear facilities ; Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. “Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace,” Trump stated, threatening ‘far greater and a lot easier’ future attacks in case of no change in policy by Tehran.

Trump spoke to the nation at the White House late Saturday (EDT), hours after the military operation was over. In his speech on TV, he reiterated that the strikes were successful and had a powerful message of deterrence.

The precision attacks, carried out using the US Air Force’s B-2 bombers, were a major escalation of tensions and showed Washington’s determination in countering what it perceives as Iran’s increasing nuclear threat.

Here’s the full speech:

“A short time ago the US military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear facilities in the Iranian regime: Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.

“Everybody heard those names for years as they built this horribly destructive enterprise.

“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror.

“Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success.

“Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.

“Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier.

“For 40 years, Iran has been saying, ‘Death to America, Death to Israel.’

“They have been killing our people, blowing off their arms, blowing off their legs, with roadside bombs. That was their specialty, we lost over 1,000 people.

“And hundreds of thousands throughout the Middle East and around the world have died as a direct result of their hate, in particular, so many were killed by their general Qasem Soleimani.

“I decided a long time ago that I would not let this happen. It will not continue.

“I want to thank and congratulate Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We worked as a team like perhaps no team has ever worked before, and we’ve gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel.

“I want to thank the Israeli military for the wonderful job they’ve done.

“And most importantly, I want to congratulate the great American patriots who flew those magnificent machines tonight and all of the United States military on an operation the likes of which the world has not seen in many, many decades.

“Hopefully we will no longer need their services in this capacity. I hope that’s so.

“I also want to congratulate the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan ‘Razin’ Caine, spectacular general, and all of the brilliant military minds involved in this attack.

“With all of that being said, this cannot continue. There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days.

“Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight’s was the most difficult of them all, by far, and perhaps the most lethal.

“But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill. Most of them can be taken out in a matter of minutes.

“There’s no military in the world that could have done what we did tonight, not even close. There has never been a military that could do what took place just a little while ago.

“Tomorrow, General Caine, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, will have a press conference at 8 am at the Pentagon.

“And I want to just thank everybody, and in particular, God. I want to just say we love you, God, and we love our great military, protect them.

“God bless the Middle East, God bless Israel, and God bless America. Thank you very much. Thank you.”

“The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations,” Araghchi wrote.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran retains full rights to defend itself. He called the attacks “outrageous” and said they would have “everlasting consequences.” He added, “Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior.” Citing the UN Charter’s provision for self-defense, Araghchi declared, “Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.”

</excerpt>

A tragic story of survival turned to heartbreak this week after a seven-year-old Ukrainian girl battling blood cancer was killed in an Iranian missile strike on Israel. Nastya Buryk, who had escaped war-torn Ukraine in 2022 to seek medical treatment, died along with her mother, grandmother, and two young cousins when a missile struck their apartment in Bat Yam on June 13.

From Ukraine’s Warzone to Israel’s Conflict Zone

Nastya’s journey began in 2022 when her father, Artem Buryk, joined Ukraine’s elite 95th Airborne Assault Brigade following Russia’s invasion. That same year, Nastya was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a rare and aggressive blood cancer. Her mother, Maria, posted on social media, “On August 29, 2022, we heard the terrible news: ‘Your daughter has cancer.’”

She recalled living “in a parallel reality” with one goal — to save her daughter.

Despite early chemotherapy in Ukraine, Nastya relapsed, and the country’s limited wartime healthcare options forced the family to seek treatment abroad. Relying on charitable donations and personal savings, they traveled to Israel in December 2022.

A Costly Fight Against Cancer

In Israel, Nastya underwent a bone marrow transplant, which failed. Leukaemia returned, and the family’s funds began to dwindle. Maria continued sharing their story online, while Artem appealed for donations from the front lines. One hospital discharged Nastya due to unpaid bills.

Doctors proposed a risky but necessary treatment to salvage the transplant. As the family clung to hope, Maria’s mother traveled from Odesa to support them, bringing along Nastya’s cousins for their education, away from Ukraine’s daily missile threats.

Killed in Iran’s Retaliatory Strike on Israel

Just as the family regained some stability, a new conflict caught them in the crossfire. On June 13, during Iran’s missile and drone barrage on Israel in retaliation for Operation Rising Lion — Israel’s deadly airstrike on Iranian officials — a missile struck their Bat Yam apartment.

All five members of the Buryk family — Nastya, her mother Maria, grandmother, and two young cousins — died instantly.

Nastya’s story is now a chilling testament to how modern warfare spares no one, not even those fleeing one war only to become victims in another. Her father continues to serve on the Ukrainian front lines, now grieving the loss of his entire family in a conflict far from home.

</excerpt>

Tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated sharply in recent weeks. As fears of open conflict grow, global attention has turned to Iran’s most secure and secretive nuclear site the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant.

This underground facility plays a key role in Iran’s uranium enrichment program. It has become central to the nuclear standoff between Tehran and the West.

Israel Strikes Fordow, But Damage Remains Unknown

Israel launched airstrikes targeting several nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow. However, it is still unclear whether those strikes caused any actual damage.

Because of its deep, fortified location, even direct attacks may not affect the site. Despite this, experts warn that Fordow remains dangerous because of its ability to enrich uranium to near-weapons-grade levels.

Fordow: A Nuclear Bunker Beneath the Mountains

Fordow is located 30 kilometers northeast of Qom, in northern Iran. It sits deep inside a mountain, making it hard to detect and harder to destroy. The site originally served as a military base for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iran publicly acknowledged the facility in 2009, but only after Western intelligence had already exposed it.

Inspectors Find Uranium Near Weapons Grade

In early 2023, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) made a surprise inspection at Fordow. They discovered uranium enriched to 83.7% purity, just below the 90% required for a nuclear weapon.“At the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, we found particles of high enriched uranium with enrichment levels well beyond the enrichment level declared by Iran,” IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, March 2023. This raised global alarm. It suggested that Iran might be enriching uranium beyond the limits allowed under previous international agreements.

IAEA Sees No Damage After Israeli Attack

Following Israel’s airstrikes, IAEA inspectors visited the site again. On Monday, Grossi confirmed that Fordow had not been damaged, nor had the nearby Khondab heavy water reactor. “No damage has been seen at the site of the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant or at the Khondab heavy water reactor,” Rafael Grossi, IAEA Director General

Iran Resumes Enrichment After U.S. Left the Nuclear Deal

In 2015, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activity under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). But in 2018, the United States withdrew from the deal under President Donald Trump.

After that, Iran restarted enrichment at Fordow. The site was originally set to become a non-nuclear research facility. However, Iran reactivated its centrifuges and ramped up uranium production.

In 2023, the IAEA reported that Iran had configured centrifuges at Fordow to enrich uranium up to 60% purity—much higher than the 3% to 5% typically used for civilian energy.

Still, Iranian officials insisted that safety was not at risk. “All nuclear material is in a safe place,” Commander Mohsen Rezaei, to the Daily Mail

Can Israel Destroy Fordow Alone? Unlikely

Military experts agree: Israel likely lacks the firepower to destroy Fordow. The facility is protected by rock and concrete and was built to survive air attacks.

Only the United States has a bomb that might break through the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP). This 30,000-pound bunker buster is designed to reach deep underground. Without American military support, most analysts say Israel cannot fully eliminate the Fordow site.

Trump Warns About Iran’s Nuclear Threat

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who ended U.S. involvement in the nuclear deal, weighed in on the issue. He said he does not want war but made it clear he views Iran’s nuclear progress as a serious risk. “I’m not looking to fight. But if it’s a choice between fighting and having a nuclear weapon, you have to do what you have to do. I may do it. I may not do it.” Donald Trump

Fordow at the Center of a Global Standoff

Fordow is not just another nuclear site. It represents Iran’s resistance to Western pressure, Israel’s urgent security concerns, and the fragile state of nuclear diplomacy in the Middle East.

As the crisis deepens, all eyes remain on how Iran, Israel, and the U.S. will respond—and whether diplomacy can still prevent a dangerous conflict.

</excerpt>

A group of 110 Indian students, evacuated from conflict-hit Iran under ‘Operation Sindhu’, expressed gratitude to the Indian government for ensuring their safe return. However, the students criticized the poor condition of the buses arranged by the Jammu and Kashmir government for their journey home from Delhi.

The students, all enrolled at Urmia Medical University in Iran, arrived in New Delhi early Thursday morning after a challenging evacuation route that included stops in Armenia and Doha. India coordinated the evacuation as part of its effort to rescue nationals amid the escalating Israel-Iran conflict.

Ali, one of the students, described the danger they faced. “It was a difficult journey for us. There were a lot of attacks, mostly in Tehran,” he told NDTV. “We were very scared,” he added, recalling how a missile landed near their bus during the trip.

Ali thanked the Indian embassy for their timely support. “They (the Indian embassy officials) first helped us cross the land border to Armenia, where we stayed for a day. Then we came to Delhi,” he said.

Operation Sindhu begins 🇮🇳.

India launched Operation Sindhu to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran. India evacuated 110 students from northern Iran who crossed into Armenia under the supervision of our Missions in Iran and Armenia on 17th June. They departed from Yerevan on a… pic.twitter.com/8WJom7wh5f

Complaints Over Bus Conditions Spark Response from J&K Government

While the students expressed relief at being back in India in Operation Sindhu, many voiced dissatisfaction with the transport arrangements made for their return to Jammu and Kashmir.

Shaikh Afsa, a student from Kashmir, said, “We are tired and it would be difficult for us to travel back to our homes in a bus.” She added that the buses provided were not in a “stable condition” and requested Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to make alternate arrangements.

The Chief Minister has taken note of the request of the students evacuated from Iran regarding the quality of buses arranged to transport them from Delhi to J&K. The Resident Commissioner has been tasked with coordinating with the JKRTC to ensure proper deluxe buses are arranged.

Another student echoed her concerns and stressed the urgency of returning to Iran once the situation stabilizes. “We have our practical classes and we need to return as soon as possible,” she said.

The office of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah acknowledged the issue and issued a statement. “We have taken note of the request of the students and are coordinating with the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation to ensure proper deluxe buses for them,” the statement said.

Escalating Conflict Between Israel and Iran Affects Students

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has disrupted academic life for many Indian students in the region. The crisis began when the Israeli military launched “Operation Rising Lion” last Friday, targeting key Iranian cities based on intelligence that Iran was nearing nuclear weapons capability.

More than 250 people have died in cross-border attacks, including over 220 fatalities in Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the strikes in a late-night video message.

Referring to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, Netanyahu said, “We are advancing step by step to remove these threats.” “We are striking the Ayatollahs’ regime with great force. We are attacking nuclear installations, missiles, command centres and the symbols of the regime,” he declared. Netanyahu also claimed that Israeli forces now “control the skies over Tehran.”

With over 4,000 Indian nationals, including thousands of students, residing in Iran, the Indian government continues to monitor the situation closely as tensions escalate across the region.

</excerpt>

After Israeli missile attacks shook Tel Aviv early Friday, Iran retaliated strongly. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Operation True Promise 3 late that night.

Iran stated it launched the strike in response to Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, which had earlier hit Iran’s key nuclear and military facilities. These air raids killed several top commanders, forcing Iran to replace them quickly.

Dozens of Israeli Targets Hit

In a statement shared by Tasnim News Agency, Iran said its operation targeted “dozens of sites, military centres, and air bases of the usurping Zionist regime in the occupied territories.”

The IRGC described the counterattack as a “crushing, precise response” to Israel’s actions. According to Iran, the previous Israeli strikes had killed high-ranking officers, “prominent scientists and innocent citizens, especially children.”

Iran Condemns Israeli Actions

Iran strongly condemned Israel’s air raids. It called them “an assault and aggressive action of the bloodthirsty, child-killing terrorist Zionist regime” against parts of “Islamic Iran.”

Moreover, the IRGC stated the mission was powered by faith, leadership, and public support. The statement said the operation was carried out “with reliance on divine power, the wise guidance of the Supreme Commander of the Forces and the unified demand and support of the noble Iranian nation.”

Launch Code Honors Religious Symbolism

The IRGC launched the retaliation under a spiritual phrase.
It said the operation began “with the sacred code ‘Ya Ali ibn Abi Talib’ on the blessed night of Eid al-Ghadir.”

They promised to release more information soon.
“Details of this operation will be announced to the noble Iranian nation in the next statement,” it added.

Iran Loses Top Commanders in Israeli Strikes

Earlier on Friday, Israeli attacks inside Tehran had deadly consequences.
Among the killed were:

IRGC Chief Hossein Salami

Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri

Several other senior Iranian military leaders

Israel acknowledged Iran’s counterattack. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said, “A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defense systems are operating to intercept the threat.”

Hundreds of Missiles Fired

By Friday evening, Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel. State-run Iranian media confirmed this was the beginning of Iran’s major retaliation.

This attack followed a warning from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had pledged revenge.
He said, “The powerful hand of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces will not let it go.”

</excerpt>

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared on Saturday that the country’s armed forces are fully prepared to confront Israel. He assured that the entire Iranian leadership and the people are united behind the military.

Khamenei Blames Israel for Aggression

In a series of posts on X, Khamenei accused Israel of committing a serious mistake. He wrote, “The Zionist regime has made a big mistake, a grave error, and committed a reckless act. By God’s grace, the consequences of this will bring that regime to ruin.” He also vowed justice for those killed in recent attacks, saying, “The Iranian nation won’t permit the blood of its valued martyrs to go unavenged, nor will it ignore the violation of its airspace.”

Iran Promises Fierce Response

Khamenei made it clear that Iran would retaliate without hesitation. “Today, we must give a strong response to the evil, despicable, terrorist Zionist identity. God willing, we will respond with strength, and will show no mercy to them. Life will definitely become bitter for the Zionists,” he said. He warned that Israel “will not escape safely from the heinous crime they’ve committed.”

Iran’s Armed Forces Backed by Leadership

Khamenei praised Iran’s military and promised that they would strike hard. “This is a certainty that the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces will deal heavy blows to this evil Zionist enemy. The Iranian people are with us. They support the Armed Forces, and the Islamic Republic will triumph over the Zionist regime, by the will of God,” he added. He assured the public, “Let the dear Iranian nation know this, be certain and assured that every effort will be made in this regard.”

Violence Flares Between Iran and Israel

Khamenei’s remarks came after recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets and Iran’s retaliatory missile attacks. According to the Times of Israel, one woman was killed and five others were injured during the latest round of Iranian strikes on Friday.

Trump Warns After Israeli Strike on Iran, Says ‘Iran Cannot Have a Nuclear Bomb’

<excerpt>Trump confirms prior knowledge of Israeli strikes on Iran and vows readiness as negotiations hang in the balance.
</excerpt>

US President Donald Trump told Fox News in an interview that he had prior warning of the Israeli airstrikes against Iranian military and nuclear targets. He insisted that while the US did not join in, he remains adamant that Iran will not be able to get a nuclear weapon.

Further, Trump said he is monitoring the response from Iran. His comments come as Washington tries to balance diplomacy with the preparedness to defend Israel during tense nuclear talks with Tehran.

Trump Confirms That He Was Informed Informally

Trump said in an interview with Fox News that the White House received advance notice of Israel’s plans. However, he stressed that the US had not been involved in the operation. He confirmed that the US Central Command and allied forces are on high alert. He made it categorically clear: if Iran attacks back, the US will protect its interests and Israel.

In the same interview, Trump asserted, “Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb,” reaffirming his administration’s long-held position. He also said that while he would like to have negotiations back, “we will see,” since Iran has not fully committed as of yet. He also darkly warned that Israel had eliminated several Iranian leaders who would not return.

Administration Distances Itself From Military Strikes

While Trump confirmed it, his administration has underlined that the US had no tactical involvement in the action. Secretary of State Marco Rubio again asserted that Israel acted alone and the US merely aimed at safeguarding its personnel in the region.

The distancing is a sign of the precarious balancing act of strategic support for Israel and continued efforts to re-launch nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Diplomatic Talks Hang in the Balance

The news comes ahead of a scheduled sixth round of American-Iranian negotiations in Oman. A top US diplomat has recently affirmed that negotiations will go on this Sunday. Trump was tentatively set in his optimism but indicated the agreement will have to be tougher than past agreements.

Trump’s revelation highlights the extent of US–Israel strategic coordination and intelligence sharing. At the same time, it provokes concerns about the boundaries of American power and the tenuous divide between diplomacy and military escalation.

Trump called on Iran to use this moment as an opportunity: “We are hoping to get back to the negotiating table.” But he also cautioned that upcoming US personnel evacuations from the Middle East represent the nuance and danger of the moment.

A Pivotal Moment

This moment recasts the US’s role in Middle East security. Trump’s recognition of Israel’s unilateral move and pledge to defend Israel if Iran attacks represents a sharp change. He mixes tough-guy deterrence — “Iran can’t have a nuclear bomb” — with ongoing diplomatic gestures.

With nuclear talks looming and Israel poised for further attacks, the world holds its breath. A miscalculation could set off overt war in an extremely volatile region.

</excerpt>

Israel eliminated Iran army chief Mohammad Bagheri in a dramatic heightening of tensions, striking at the center of Iran’s military command. Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the top regular army officer of Iran, was killed in an Israeli air strike in Tehran, Iranian state TV IRINN reported.

Earlier, Iran had also announced that General Hossein Salami, the dominant commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), had died. These are the two highest-ranking military casualties in Iran after historic attack by Israel on Tehran’s capital, military, and nuclear facilities.

Tehran Reels as Bagheri Dies in Airstrike

General Bagheri was Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the highest rank in the nation’s official military. His passing represents a significant loss to Iran’s defence establishment. Iran’s state media announced his assassination on Thursday, confirming that he was among Israel’s top targets in its precision attack on strategic military compounds and facilities in Tehran.

It is the second high-profile Iranian military commander Israel has killed during the same operation. The attack also hit military and nuclear facilities in and around the capital city, a gesture seen as symbolic and strategic.

IRGC Confirms Salami’s Death

The Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran later released an official statement confirming the death of General Hossein Salami. He was a central figure in both Iran’s military and political landscape and had headed the IRGC since 2019.

The IRGC praised Salami’s long-standing service. “Without a doubt, Major General Salami was one of the most distinguished commanders of the Islamic Revolution,” the statement said. It described his leadership across scientific, cultural, security, and military efforts. The Guard called him a front-line warrior who always defended the ideals of Iran’s Supreme Leader and the Revolution.

IRGC Promises Retaliation

In its press release, the IRGC threatened a response to come. The IRGC said all of Iran’s military branches are “completely ready to inflict a crushing and severe response.” This has been said before but is more heavily weighted given the loss of both Salami and Bagheri.

The IRGC is still Iran’s strongest military branch. It was established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and consists of elite ground, air, naval, intelligence, and special forces. It is responsible for both internal and external operations, such as alliances with Lebanon’s proxy militias, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.

Analysts say that although Iran’s conventional military handles national defense, the IRGC tends to dominate foreign policy on military issues. Its connections to Iran-backed forces such as Hezbollah and its activity in Iraq and Syria render it a focus of Iran’s regional strategy.

A Major Escalation

The murders of both Bagheri and Salami will unsettle Iran’s military command hierarchy. It is one of the most brazen Israeli actions to date in its shadow conflict with Iran. Tehran is now under pressure to retaliate by force, but while at the same time seeking to contain unrest internally.

This strike can reshape the regional conflict dynamic, with both sides waiting for what is yet to come.

</excerpt>

The fact that the Israel Iran conflict escalated with a new and potentially perilous phase of hostilities in which the IDF confirmed that Tehran sent more than 100 drones into Israel, flying in retaliation for a wide-scale Israeli airstrike against Iranian nuclear and military installations earlier today.

All flights were barred from Jordanian airspace, marking wider regional instability, while the drone attack is still gathering pace with a sharp escalation in hostilities after months of underlying tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear initiative and atomic threats.

Iran Responds with Airstrikes

The Israeli military said Iran struck back with “over 100 drones” that targeted several sites within Israel. Brig. Gen. Effie Deffrin, the IDF spokesman, verified that Israeli defenses actively intercepted the incoming threats.

Iran had threatened in advance, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and military leaders vowing an “embittering and painful” future for Israel after the airstrikes.

Israel’s Air Campaign

Earlier today, Israel initiated “Operation Rising Lion,” attacking about 100 targets in Iran. The attack included more than 200 fighter aircraft targeting nuclear sites such as Natanz, missile manufacturing plants, and high-ranking military commanders.

Confirmations have come of the fatalities of high-ranking officials like IRGC commander Gen. Hossein Salami and military chief Gen. Mohammad Bagheri. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the raids as pre emptive and conducted for national survival.

Jordan Closes Its Skies

Jordan acted quickly in response to the intensifying war by closing its skies to all civilian traffic. Its civil aviation agency put caution into practice to “avoid any infringement of its airspace or let its country turn into a battle zone”. Other neighbors, such as Iraq, also shut down air traffic, disturbing global air routes.

Security tensions have spread to the region. Iran and Israel both shut down their airspace, while Iraq also issued flight bans. This move grounded global aviation: airlines including Emirates, Lufthansa, Air India, and flydubai diverted or canceled flights. China told its citizens in both nations to remain vigilant .

The drone attack capped a perilous ratcheting up triggered by Israel’s mass aerial assault in response to concerns about Iran’s nuclear drive. The sudden shift toward bulk drone reprisal underscores the thin line and the risk of broader confrontation.

What’s Next?

These events portend a spreading of the conflict. Israel threatened more attacks. Iran’s threats to hit back, combined with airspace closures, reveal an unstable and uncertain environment. Diplomatic breakdowns—particularly over nuclear negotiations—may complicate de-escalation.

World leaders called for restraint, but preparation on each side to launch offensive action shows profound alarm. The world now waits to see either brutal escalation or rapid de-escalation.

Tehran’s response, which could involve targeting Israeli military facilities, is set to occur after the US presidential election but before the new president’s inauguration in January.
</excerpt>

Iran has signaled its intention to retaliate against Israel for the October 26 airstrike using more advanced weaponry, including more powerful warheads. The Wall Street Journal reported that an Egyptian official revealed Iran’s plans for a “strong and complex” response to Israel’s strikes, which were in retaliation for Tehran’s earlier ballistic missile attack on October 1.

An Iranian official stated that the military would likely target Israeli military installations with a significantly more aggressive approach than in previous attacks, as the October 26 strike resulted in the loss of four Iranian soldiers and one civilian. “Our military lost people, so they need to respond,” the official said.

Unlike its prior assaults, which primarily involved missiles and drones, Iran’s retaliation is expected to employ a wider range of weaponry. The October 2 attack on Israel included four different types of medium-range ballistic missiles, notably the Emad, Ghadr, Kheibar Shekan, and Fattah.

Iran has indicated that it will time its response to occur after the US presidential elections on November 5, but before the inauguration of the new president in January. Officials hinted that while the Iranian military may engage in future operations against Israel, this does not necessarily imply troop deployment, suggesting potential collaboration with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Experts, such as Behnam Ben Taleblu from the Foundation for Defence of Democracies, warned that Iran retains the capability to launch a more extensive and destructive response than in its initial attacks. He emphasized that Iran’s shifting rhetoric reflects its determination to respond decisively, raising concerns about the potential development of atomic weapons amid escalating tensions.

This move follows recent Iranian missile strikes and aims to support Israel’s defense amid escalating tensions and the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah.
</excerpt>

In response to heightened missile threats from Iran and its proxies, the United States has deployed the advanced Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system to Israel, accompanied by approximately 100 US troops. This strategic move comes following a series of Iranian missile attacks on Israel and increasing regional hostilities.

What is THAAD?

THAAD is a cutting-edge missile defense system specifically designed to counter short, medium, and intermediate-range ballistic missile threats. Notably, it is the only US system capable of intercepting targets both inside and outside the atmosphere. The system undergoes continuous improvements to adapt to evolving missile threats.

Rationale Behind the Deployment

The Biden administration’s decision to bolster Israel’s defenses is aimed at protecting the nation from potential ballistic missile attacks, particularly in the wake of the recent assassinations of key Iranian and Hezbollah leaders. As tensions mount, with Israel preparing for potential retaliatory actions, the THAAD system enhances the country’s defensive capabilities.

Iranian officials have cautioned that any Israeli strikes, especially against Tehran’s nuclear facilities, would elicit a strong retaliatory response. In light of ongoing conflicts, Israel has sought US support for arms and ammunition amidst its war efforts, which have already resulted in significant casualties and displacement in Gaza and Lebanon.

How THAAD Operates

THAAD intercepts incoming ballistic missiles during their terminal phase, the last stage before impact. The system is capable of engaging targets both within the atmosphere (endoatmospheric) and outside it (exoatmospheric), making it adaptable to various missile threats. A defining characteristic of THAAD is its kinetic kill mechanism, which eliminates incoming threats through sheer impact rather than explosive warheads.

US Military Presence in Israel

THAAD systems are operated exclusively by US personnel, necessitating the presence of American troops on Israeli soil. The current deployment marks a significant military support move by the US to Israel, particularly as tensions rise following recent conflicts. This marks the first major US military deployment to Israel amidst ongoing hostilities in Gaza.

Escalating Regional Tensions

The US decision follows Iranian missile attacks on Israel, with heightened military activity in the region. In response to increasing threats, the Pentagon has increased its military presence, deploying aircraft carriers and additional air defenses across the Middle East. US troops have also been stationed in Cyprus to assist with evacuation operations.

The ongoing conflict has intensified, with recent attacks resulting in Israeli casualties and retaliatory strikes. Following a Hezbollah drone attack that killed four Israeli soldiers and injured numerous others, the militant group has warned that this is just the beginning of their response to Israeli aggression.

As the US bolsters Israel’s defenses, the situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation in hostilities.

They will discuss potential strikes on Iran and ongoing conflicts with Hamas and Hezbollah. The call aims to establish limits on Israeli military actions amid rising regional tensions.
</excerpt>

President Joe Biden is set to hold a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, focusing on potential military actions against Iran, according to Axios. This will be the first conversation between the two leaders since August and comes as Israel considers significant military strikes that could escalate regional tensions.

Details of the Call

US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that the call aims to establish parameters for Israel’s military response. One official noted the desire to ensure that any attacks on Iranian targets are significant but not disproportionate. Additionally, the leaders are expected to discuss the ongoing conflicts with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Context of Recent Developments

Biden previously expressed intentions to communicate with Netanyahu to prevent a full-scale war in the Middle East, although the call was delayed. When asked about the conversation last week, Biden mentioned there had been “no action going on right now.”

Other Related Meetings

In related news, the Pentagon announced that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has canceled his planned visit to Washington, where he was scheduled to meet with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. Furthermore, Biden has also withdrawn from talks with leaders from the US, UK, France, and Germany concerning the Middle East and Ukraine to focus on the response to Hurricane Milton.

Meanwhile, Israel launched intensified strikes on Hezbollah positions, including a mosque in southern Lebanon, resulting in over 1,100 fatalities since September 23, amid ongoing clashes at the border.
</excerpt>

An Iranian cargo plane en route to Lebanon or Syria was turned back over Iraqi airspace on Saturday after suspicions arose that it was carrying weapons for Hezbollah. According to a Times of Israel report, data from flight tracking websites revealed that a Qeshm Fars Air flight, which had departed from Tehran, made a U-turn after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued warnings regarding the aircraft.

Earlier in the week, Lebanon’s transport ministry had instructed an Iranian aircraft to avoid its airspace after Israel warned Beirut airport’s air traffic control that it would use force if the plane attempted to land.

Meanwhile, Israel has continued its military campaign against Hezbollah, launching airstrikes across Lebanon. On Saturday, Israeli forces targeted Hezbollah fighters inside a mosque in southern Lebanon. The Iran-backed militant group confirmed that its fighters were engaged in confrontations with Israeli troops along Lebanon’s southern border.

Reports have also emerged that Hezbollah’s senior leader, Hashem Safieddine considered a potential successor to current leader Hassan Nasrallah has been “unreachable” following an Israeli airstrike that hit an underground bunker in Beirut. However, there has been no official response from Hezbollah on the matter.

Since launching an intensified military campaign against Hezbollah strongholds on September 23, Israeli strikes have killed over 1,100 people. On the ground, Hezbollah claimed that its fighters had forced Israeli soldiers to retreat during clashes in the border region on Saturday.

Details of the Attack:

This marks the second Iranian strike on Israel this year, following a previous attack in April. Nearly 200 ballistic missiles were launched, with Israeli defence systems intercepting most of them, although a few reportedly hit central and southern regions of Israel.

Reason Behind the Attack:

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the attack as a defensive response to the “violation of Iran’s sovereignty and the martyrdom” of their people. The IRGC further emphasized that this strike was in line with their right to protect their nation. According to a BBC report, the attack was ordered by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Israel’s Reaction:

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, firmly condemned the attack, stating, “Iran made a big mistake tonight and it will pay for it.” He emphasized Israel’s commitment to self-defence and retaliation, underscoring the regime’s failure to understand Israel’s determination. In a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu added that the missile attack was largely “thwarted” by Israel’s air defence systems.

Defence Minister Yoav Gallant reinforced this stance, declaring that “Iran has not learned a simple lesson – those who attack the state of Israel pay a heavy price.” He vowed that vengeance would follow for the aggression displayed by Iran.

</excerpt>

The United States is reportedly advising Israel to proceed with caution following Iran’s recent launch of approximately 200 ballistic missiles on Tuesday night. In discussions following the missile attack, US President Joe Biden and G7 leaders emphasized the need for a “proportionate” response. Biden stated, “All seven of us agree that they have a right to respond, but they should respond in proportion.”

US Concerns Over Regional Escalation

Washington has warned Israel against striking Iran’s nuclear facilities, expressing concerns that such actions could escalate tensions and destabilize the region further. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has conveyed this stance to his counterparts from France, Britain, Germany, and Italy. The US remains deeply worried about the potential for heightened conflict in the Middle East.

Diverging Opinions on Strategy

While former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has called for a decisive strike on Iran’s nuclear sites, aiming to “fatally cripple this terrorist regime,” the US prefers to avoid triggering a full-scale regional war. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller affirmed Israel’s right to respond but cautioned against any actions that could lead to widespread conflict, stating, “We don’t want to see any action that would lead to a full-blown regional war.”

Recent Israeli Airstrike and Hezbollah Conflict

In a separate incident, Israel carried out a deadly airstrike on a Hezbollah rescue facility in central Beirut last Thursday, resulting in at least six deaths, according to AFP reports citing Lebanese sources. Additionally, the ongoing Hezbollah-Israel conflict has led to the deaths of eight Israeli soldiers.

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for forcing Israeli soldiers to retreat, attacking an Israeli unit with explosives, and destroying three Merkava tanks using rockets as they approached the village of Maroun al-Ras.

Communication Between US and Israel

While President Biden mentioned ongoing discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s team, there has been no direct communication between the two leaders on this specific issue. The White House has yet to initiate any direct talks with Netanyahu regarding the situation.

While systems like Iron Dome and Arrow intercepted many missiles, Tehran’s evolving tactics and increased missile capabilities challenge Israel’s defense strategies, prompting a reevaluation of current technologies and a need for new solutions.
</excerpt>

Iran’s Hypersonic Missile Tactics Challenge Israeli Defenses

Iran’s recent missile attack on Israel, targeting sites like Nevatim air base and a restaurant in Tel Aviv, has sparked concerns over the effectiveness of Israel’s missile defense systems. While systems like Iron Dome and Arrow have a reputation for high interception rates, Iran’s increasing use of sophisticated and faster missiles demands a reassessment of Israel’s current air defense capabilities.

Iron Dome and Arrow Systems Under Pressure

The Iron Dome, highly effective in countering short-range projectiles, successfully intercepted many of the missiles in the attack. However, its limitations in dealing with ballistic and hypersonic missiles, like Iran’s Fatteh-2 hypersonic missile, raise concerns. The Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 systems, designed for intercepting long-range ballistic missiles, played a crucial role but also face limitations when overwhelmed by the sheer volume of Tehran’s attacks.

Need for Technological Advancements

With missile threats evolving, Israel may need to incorporate new defense strategies. Hypersonic missiles, like those used by Iran, pose a unique challenge due to their speed and complexity. While Israel is already working on laser-based systems like the “Iron Beam,” international alliances and technological upgrades will be essential for safeguarding the nation against future threats.

Craters were reported near Mossad’s facility, though no injuries were confirmed. Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei praised the attacks, while Israel reported minimal damage and activated Red Code alerts for citizens.
</excerpt>

Reports have surfaced indicating that one of the targets in a recent Iranian missile strike on Israel was the Mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv. The strike, part of a barrage of approximately 180 missiles, was launched late Tuesday night and authorized by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Images of craters near Mossad’s headquarters have been seen, located on the outskirts of Tel Aviv. One missile reportedly created a crater about 30 feet deep and 50 feet wide, only 50-100 feet from the intelligence agency’s base. Nick Schifrin, a PBS foreign affairs correspondent, shared a video on X, showing the damage and confirming the location of the strike near Mossad’s facilities.

It is believed that Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, was a high-profile target due to its suspected involvement in attacks in Tehran, including the July assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and recent strikes in Lebanon and against Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Khamenei, celebrated the missile strikes, referring to them as a “Victory from God and a near conquest” in a social media post on Wednesday. Despite the severity of the attacks, Israel has reported no injuries from the missile barrage, although one fatality occurred in the West Bank.

In addition to Mossad’s headquarters, Iran also targeted key Israeli military installations, including the Nevatim and Tel Nof Air Bases. Reports from CNN confirm that two missiles landed in Tel Aviv’s Glilot neighborhood, a densely populated area. The Nevatim base, located in the Negev desert and previously targeted by Iran in April, was hit again, though Israeli military sources described the damage as minimal.

Israel has activated Red Code alerts, urging citizens to seek refuge in bomb-protected shelters, but the full extent of the damage from these attacks remains unclear at this time.

The response, which follows recent high-profile assassinations, may be strategically timed to avoid disrupting ongoing ceasefire negotiations. The IRGC warns of a calculated approach rather than immediate action.
</excerpt>

Iran has indicated that its retaliation against Israel for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh will be delayed, according to a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Ali Mohammad Naeini stated that the response could be prolonged and will not be immediate.

The escalation follows last month’s assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran, which came shortly after the killing of Hezbollah commander Fu’ad Shukr in Beirut. Israel has been accused of being responsible for Shukr’s death, although it has not confirmed its role in Haniyeh’s assassination.

Iran, along with its allies Hezbollah and Hamas, has vowed retaliation, raising concerns of a potential regional conflict. However, Naeini’s comments suggest a shift towards a more calculated approach rather than immediate action. The IRGC spokesperson emphasized that Iran’s response would not repeat past operations and would be carefully planned.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations stated that its retaliation would be strategically timed to avoid impacting ongoing ceasefire talks. The Iranian foreign ministry has denied any direct link between its plans for retaliation and the ceasefire negotiations.

Former IRGC commander Mohsen Rezaee has indicated that Iran’s response will be “very calculated” and timed to maximize impact without escalating tensions further. He criticized the US and Israel for their role in prolonging the Gaza conflict.

Dina Esfandiary from the International Crisis Group noted that while Iran’s statements might suggest a delay in retaliation, the country’s domestic and international strategies are closely tied to the outcome of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. The response could become more imminent if negotiations fail.

Recent talks in Doha have seen progress, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reporting that Israel has agreed to a proposal to address ceasefire gaps. The next critical step is for Hamas to agree to the same terms.

Officials speculate that Iran and Hezbollah might be cautious of triggering a broader conflict, potentially delaying their planned retaliation.

The airline’s decision comes in response to the ongoing situation in the region.

Air India stated on X (formerly Twitter): “Given the current situation in parts of the Middle East, we are suspending our flights to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect until further notice. We are closely monitoring the situation and prioritizing the safety of our passengers and crew.”

The airline also mentioned that passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to or from Tel Aviv will receive a full refund. Additionally, Air India is offering a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation fees for flights affected by the suspension.

Previously, on August 2, Air India had announced a temporary suspension of flights to Tel Aviv until August 8 due to heightened tensions in the Middle East. The situation has intensified following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran on July 31, allegedly by Israeli forces.

Erdan emphasized the necessity for immediate action, stating, “Today the council must take action and condemn Iran for their terror,” and urged nations to ‘impose all possible sanctions on Iran before it’s too late.'”

In contrast, Iran’s envoy to the United Nations defended the country’s actions, asserting that the attack on Israel was an exercise of its “inherent right to self-defense.”

Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s representative, criticized the Security Council for failing to uphold international peace and security, particularly in light of Israel’s alleged strike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier in the month.

Iravani stated that Tehran was left with no option but to retaliate, stressing that Iran does “not seek escalation or war,” but will respond to any perceived threat or aggression.

Citing his part, Erdan characterized Iran as the “number one global sponsor of terror” and accused it of destabilizing the region and the world, while Iravani maintained Iran’s right to self-defense and criticized the Security Council’s handling of the situation. Both representatives reiterated their countries’ commitment to responding to threats while presenting differing viewpoints on the events.

Israel reaffirmed its commitment amidst Iran’s strikes, stating, “Even while under attack from Iran, we have not lost sight—not for one moment—of our critical mission in Gaza to rescue our hostages from the hands of Iran’s-proxy Hamas.”

EAM S. Jaishankar highlighted their discussion on releasing the Indian crew members and assessing the current regional situation. He shared on X, “Took up the release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries. Discussed the current situation in the region. Stressed the importance of avoiding escalation, exercising restraint and returning to diplomacy. Agreed to remain in touch.” Following the seizure, India swiftly engaged with Iranian authorities to secure the release of the Indian nationals.

“We are aware that a cargo ship ‘MSC Aries’ has been taken control of by Iran. We have learnt that there are 17 Indian nationals onboard. We are in touch with the Iranian authorities through diplomatic channels, both in Tehran and in Delhi, to ensure the security, welfare and early release of Indian nationals,” ANI reported citing sources.

The ship, known as the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries, was directed towards Tehran’s territorial waters, as per ANI quoting Iranian state media.

In light of Iran’s attack on Israel, New Delhi called for an immediate de-escalation of the conflict. India, alongside the US, UK, and France, urged restraint, a return to diplomacy, and emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region. The ministry stated on Sunday, “We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation… It is vital that security and stability are maintained in the region.”

</excerpt>

Several countries, including France, India, Russia, Poland, and the United Kingdom, have cautioned their citizens against traveling to Israel, the occupied Palestinian territories, and neighboring areas following threats of potential Iranian reprisals due to a recent strike on its consulate in Damascus.

Iran’s warning of retaliation over the April 1 strike in Damascus, resulting in casualties including two generals from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has sparked concerns of heightened tensions in the Middle East.

The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs advised against travel to Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and the Palestinian territories, announcing the return of relatives of diplomats based in Iran and imposing a ban on French civil servants’ missions in these regions.

The UK urged its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Israel and Palestine, citing the risk of a potential attack on Israeli territory by Iran. The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office extended its warning to include all travel to certain areas in northern Israel, the Gaza Strip, and parts of the occupied West Bank.

Russia recommended its citizens refrain from traveling to the region due to security risks in Israel, Lebanon, and Palestine, particularly emphasizing instability in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and the ‘Blue Line’ area between Lebanon and Israel.

Poland’s Foreign Ministry also advised against travel to Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon, highlighting concerns of sudden escalations in military operations and potential difficulties in leaving these countries.
