Expanding UAE-African Relations

The meeting was also attended by senior UAE officials, including Reem Al Hashemi and Saeed Mubarak Al Hajri, who emphasized the importance of broadening economic and trade ties between the UAE and African nations.

This renewed partnership is set to enhance cooperation, not only benefiting the two nations but also contributing to the aspirations of their people for a brighter and more prosperous future.

</excerpt>

On Friday, the Narendra Modi government approved eight major National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects spanning a total of 936 kilometers, with an investment of ₹50,655 crore. This initiative aims to enhance logistics efficiency, alleviate congestion, and improve connectivity across India.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced, “The Cabinet has given the green light to eight key National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects, totaling over ₹50,000 crore. This investment will significantly boost logistics efficiency, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen nationwide connectivity.”

The approved projects include the six-lane Agra-Gwalior Corridor, the four-lane Kharagpur-Moregram Corridor, the six-lane Tharad-Deesa-Mehsana-Ahmedabad Corridor, the four-lane Ayodhya Ring Road, a five-lane segment of the Raipur-Ranchi Corridor between Pathalgaon and Gumla, the six-lane Kanpur Ring Road, the four-lane Northern Guwahati Bypass and its widening, and an eight-lane elevated corridor near Pune from Nashik Phata to Khed.

Vaishnaw highlighted the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, stating, “The 140 crore Indians gave Prime Minister Modi a historic mandate, leading to a third consecutive term for the government. Following this, ₹76,000 crore will be invested in Vadhavan Port.”

The government emphasized that infrastructure development is crucial for economic growth and improving citizens’ quality of life. It noted that every rupee invested in infrastructure has a multiplier effect of 2.5-3.0 times on GDP. Additionally, capital investment in National Highways, including private contributions, has surged from ₹50,000 crore in 2013-14 to approximately ₹3.1 lakh crore in 2023-24. The government also adopted a corridor-based approach to highway development, aiming for consistent standards and improved logistics efficiency, as opposed to the previous project-based approach focused on local congestion.

</excerpt>

Starting April 1, 2024, new KYC (Know Your Customer) rules for mutual fund investors have been implemented. Under these rules, investors must be “KYC Validated” to invest in any mutual fund scheme without additional paperwork. Those with “KYC Registered” or “KYC Verified” status can retain their current investments but need to submit documents again for new investments.

Understanding “KYC Validated” Status

“KYC Validated” status means that the KYC Registration Agency (KRA) can confirm an investor’s Proof of Address and Proof of Identity with official sources like the Income Tax Department database or Aadhaar. If an investor’s PAN and Aadhaar are linked or do not need to be linked, and their email and/or mobile are verified, they receive “KYC Validated” status. This status allows investors to invest in different mutual fund schemes without resubmitting KYC documents, as long as their information remains unchanged.

Type of OVD and KYC status

Type of OVD used: Aadhaar
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Validated
KYC status from April 1, 2024: KYC Validated – Where OVD data is validated with the issuing authority, i.e. UIDAI, PAN-Aadhaar linking done, and email and/or mobile is validated.

Type of OVD used: Aadhaar (Physical)
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Registered
KYC status from April 1, 2024: KYC Registered – Where Aadhaar OVD data could not be validated with the issuing authority i.e. UIDAI, PAN-Aadhaar linking seeded, and email and/or mobile is validated.

Type of OVD used: Non-Aadhaar OVDs (Allowed OVDs)
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Registered / Verified
KYC status from April 1, 2024: KYC Registered – Where the proof cannot be validated with the issuing authority and email and/or mobile is validated.

Type of OVD used: Non-Aadhaar OVDs (Allowed OVDs)
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Registered
KYC status from April 1, 2024: KYC On-Hold – Where the proof cannot be validated with the issuing authority and email and/or mobile is not validated.

Type of OVD used: Deemed OVDs (other than Allowed OVDs)
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Registered
KYC status from April 1, 2024: KYC Registered – Where the proof cannot be validated with the issuing authority and email and/or mobile is validated.

Type of OVD used: Deemed OVDs (Other than Allowed OVDs)
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Registered
KYC status from April 1, 2024: KYC On-Hold – Where the proof cannot be validated with the issuing authority and email and/or mobile is not validated.

Type of OVD used: Non-OVDs (other than listed)
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Registered
KYC status from April 1, 2024: On Hold

Type of OVD used: Invalid contact details [Email and / or Mobile] – irrespective of OVDs submitted
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Registered
KYC status from April 1, 2024: On Hold

Impact of Unvalidated KYC

If an investor’s KYC is not validated, their status is marked as “KYC Registered.” In such cases, investors can still invest with other SEBI-registered intermediaries but need to provide KYC documents again, even if their information has not changed.

Significance of Aadhaar in KYC

Aadhaar is crucial for changing KYC status to “KYC Validated.” Without Aadhaar, KRAs cannot independently validate an investor’s information, which is necessary for obtaining “KYC Validated” status. Using Aadhaar for KYC simplifies the process and eliminates the need for multiple KYC modifications across different fund houses.

Investment Flexibility Based on KYC Status

Resident individuals with “KYC Verified” or “KYC Registered” status can continue investing in existing mutual funds. However, to invest in a different fund house for the first time, they must submit a KYC modification request along with their investment application. Investors with “KYC Validated” status can invest in any mutual fund without submitting additional KYC documents. Non-Resident Indian (NRI) investors must submit a KYC modification in all cases unless they have “KYC Validated” status.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significance of drawing investment to India while also making sure that it results in meaningful job opportunities for Indian youth.

In interview with a news agency. His remarks are made in light of the fact that unemployment in India is on the rise, as noted in a recent report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Institute for Human Development (IHD).

The Prime Minister’s comments highlight a calculated approach to investment, giving equal weight to creating of jobs for the nation’s rapidly growing youth population and capital inflow.

The Prime Minister’s comments highlight a calculated approach to investment, giving equal weight to creating of jobs for the nation’s rapidly growing youth population and capital inflow. “I want to see more investment in India”. In the interview, PM Modi said, “It doesn’t matter who has invested money; but the sweat put into the work must be from our own people.” He highlighted how important it is for products to capture the spirit of India in order to support local talent in these kinds of efforts.

According to the IHD-ILO research, there have been notable changes in India’s employment landscape. Specifically, the proportion of youngsters without jobs who have completed secondary or higher education has nearly doubled, from 35.2% in 2000 to 65.7% in 2022. This emphasizes how important it is to make investments that address the issue of youth unemployment while also promoting economic growth.

The Prime Minister’s comments are in line with current trends in the electric vehicle (EV) market, which is a growing sector with potential for both environmental sustainability and economic prosperity. Modi emphasized how quickly EV technology is being adopted in India, pointing to a notable rise in sales from 2,000 units in 2014 to an astounding 12 lakh units in the fiscal year 2023–2024.

The global automobile scene is undergoing change as well, with firms like Tesla having a big impact on how people will travel in the future. Nevertheless, Modi’s demand for investment with an emphasis on local jobs is highly relevant in light of rumors of Tesla’s workforce reduction and market difficulties.

Modi expressed his approval of Tesla’s possible investment in India, but he also emphasized the need to guarantee job creation for young Indians. His measured answer to queries regarding Elon Musk’s backing of India is indicative of a larger policy that prioritizes national interests over international alliances.

Government programs including Production-Linked Incentives (PLIs), the construction of EV charging station infrastructure, and the growing interest of Indian consumers in green transportation have all contributed to the country’s drive toward EV adoption. In light of India’s changing industrial landscape, these elements, along with Modi’s appeal for investment that is in line with employment creation, indicate a proactive approach to economic development and job creation.

PM Modi thanked President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the launch of the UAE’s domestic card, JAYWAN, which is built on the digital RuPay credit and debit card stack. The leaders observed a transaction performed with the JAYWAN card.
Both presidents also discussed how to strengthen energy partnerships. They appreciated that, in addition to the UAE being one of the largest providers of crude and LPG, India is now going into long-term LNG contracts.

</excerpt>

Adani Group, India’s most significant critical infrastructure developer, has exhibited robust financial strength and operational acumen as it successfully accomplished a deleveraging programme worth $2.65 billion. This impressive achievement, marked by repaying loans and cutting overall leverage, is part of the group’s concerted strategy to rebuild investor trust following a recent challenging period.

The substantial prepayment included a $2.15 billion full reimbursement of loans secured against the conglomerate’s listed firms, and an additional $700 million linked to the Ambuja Cement acquisition. Accompanied by an interest payment of $203 million, these repayments have notably been accomplished well ahead of the March 2023 deadline, signalling the Group’s proactive and confident approach.

“The deleveraging programme testifies to the strong liquidity management and capital access at sponsor level even in volatile market conditions, supplementing the solid capital prudence adopted at all portfolio companies,” affirmed the Adani Group in a credit update. This landmark announcement resonates positively within the investment community, bolstering investor trust.

In a noteworthy development, Adani’s promoters completed the sale of shares in four listed group entities to GQG Partners, a prominent global investment firm. This strategic transaction, valued at $1.87 billion, indicates the group’s agility and resilience in adapting to market dynamics.

The Adani Group’s credit update also highlights significant improvements in vital financial metrics. The combined Net Debt to EBITDA ratio for the portfolio displayed marked progress, reducing from 3.81 in FY22 to 3.27 in FY23. Concurrently, the run rate EBITDA increased from INR 50,706 crore in FY22 to INR 66,566 crore in FY23, demonstrating robust financial growth and management.

Despite challenges, the banking lines of the Adani Group continue to show strong confidence by disbursing new debt and rolling over existing lines of credit. This trust is further backed by domestic and international rating agencies, who have reaffirmed their ratings in all the group companies, reinforcing the group’s standing in the financial market.

Impressively, the group’s gross assets grew while maintaining a rapid deleveraging process. The overall assets increased to INR 4.23 lakh crore, showcasing the group’s prudence in capital management and their ability to sustain growth.

At the same time, the cash balance increased by 41.5% to INR 40,351 crore, which combined with Free Flow from operations (FFO) – EBITDA less finance cost and less tax paid – stood much higher than the debt maturity cover for FY24, FY25, and FY26. This underscores the group’s ability to generate high liquidity and manage their capital prudently, promising secure financial prospects for the future.

In conclusion, the completion of the $2.65 billion deleveraging programme is a significant milestone for the Adani Group.
Pakistan after being hit by the worst floods in its history, to receive relief in the form of assistance and investments from Saudi Arabia after Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman’s order.

The investments are said to be done after conducting studies Exploring viable strategy. According to state-run Saudi Press Agency there is a will to increase deposits from $3 billion to $5 billion in Pakistan’s central bank and also asses ways to increase investments in Pakistan to $10 billion.

The Saudi fund for development provides soft loans and grants to developing countries as a way to strengthen their ties and cement their bilateral relationship. The order from the Saudi Prince comes just after a day when he met with Pakistan’s army chief General Syed Asim Munir to review ways to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

Pakistan is currently suffering through a liquidity crisis due to its economic mismanagement. The foreign exchange reserves stooped to $5.6 billion, lowest in nine years. This sum was just enough to last one month of imports. Amidst this financial crisis Pakistan was hit by devastating floods adding to its troubles.

“The investment would be in setting up a refinery in Pakistan, for which the government needs to complete modalities including finalization of refinery policy.” Said Tahir Abbas, head of research at Karachi-based Arif Habib Ltd. The investments from Saudi Arabia however are subject to resumption of the IMF program, he further added.

Pakistan would surely get a sigh of relief if it’s able to receive new investments from Saudi Arabia but it would not be enough. It is also exploring ways to seek extension for 30% of its foreign debt that is owed to China. Especially for the $2.1 billion from China that is due in March.
