</excerpt>

An IndiGo flight from Patna to Delhi made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff on Wednesday morning following a bird strike, which caused a technical issue in one of the aircraft’s engines. All 175 passengers and crew members on board the flight, IGO5009, were reported safe, according to airport authorities.

The incident occurred soon after the aircraft departed Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport at 8:42 AM IST. “IGO5009 Patna to Delhi reported bird hit after takeoff at 0842 IST, one dead bird in pieces found on runway during inspection. The same was advised to the aircraft through the Approach Control Unit,” stated Patna airport in a release.

Emergency Landing Carried Out Within 20 Minutes

The pilot detected engine vibrations following the strike and requested to return to Patna. A local emergency protocol was activated. The aircraft safely landed at 9:03 AM on runway 7, and passengers were safely evacuated without injury.

“The aircraft requested to come back to Patna due to vibration in one engine. Local stand-by declared and aircraft landed safely at 0903 IST on runway 7. All passengers are safe,” the airport statement added.

Flight Under Inspection, Alternate Arrangements Underway

Airport officials confirmed that the aircraft would undergo a full technical inspection. IndiGo will arrange alternate flights to send passengers to their intended destination, they added.

Bees Cause Another Delay for IndiGo in Surat

In a separate incident on Monday, an IndiGo flight from Surat to Jaipur was delayed by nearly an hour due to a swarm of bees gathering on the aircraft just before departure. The unusual incident took place at Surat International Airport, minutes before the scheduled takeoff.

Airport staff used smoke and water sprays to disperse the bees, but the process delayed the flight, which was scheduled to leave at 4:20 PM. A video capturing the swarm on top of the aircraft has gone viral on social media.

</excerpt>

An IndiGo flight to Jaipur from Surat encountered a sudden delay on Monday when a group of bees enveloped the luggage door of the plane. This situation resulted in more than an hour-long delay, causing passengers on board and ground crew to be at loss and worried.

Bees Surround Luggage Door, Trigger Emergency Response

Passengers had already embarked on IndiGo flight 6E-7267 at Surat International Airport when bees started congregating around the plane’s luggage door. Footage of the unusual occurrence is now viral, depicting dozens of bees adhering to the plane as others flew over it.

The airport staff first attempted to chase away the bees with smoke, said eyewitnesses.

Fire Engine Called to Disperse Bees

With the swarm unwilling to move, authorities summoned a fire truck to douse water over the infected area. It ultimately chased the bees away, enabling staff to continue with essential checks.

The luggage door was kept open at the time of the incident, making the plane unsafe for flight as planned.

Flight Takes Off After Clearance After Delay

After the area was cleared and after securing proper clearance, the flight took off from Surat at 5:26 PM — over an hour behind schedule from the planned time of 4:20 PM, as reported by a Patrika report.

In spite of the delay, the flight took off without any injuries or other problems reported.

</excerpt>

An IndiGo flight, carrying 168 people from Guwahati to Chennai on Thursday, was diverted to Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. In a huge scare, the pilot emitted a mayday call before landing safely in Bengaluru. This comes days after an Air India aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad, claiming the lives of at least 270 people, including 241 passengers and crew.

Chennai Airport Traffic Jam Forces IndiGo Emergency Landing

The emergency landing of the flight was caused by a traffic jam at the Chennai airport, which saw the aircraft fail to land on schedule. The flight landed in Bengaluru at 8:15 pm on June 19. Both pilots of the flight were de-rostered, said NDTV.

Pilot Raised Mayday Signal Due to Low Fuel Before Bengaluru Landing

The pilot of the aircraft tried to land at Chennai airport at about 7:45 pm but cancelled the attempt and decided to proceed towards Bengaluru. About 35 minutes before landing at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda airport, the pilot indicated a distress signal on account of low fuel levels, said The Times of India.

TOI reported quoting sources that upon receiving the distress call, air traffic control, fire and medical services were activated and the plane was safely landed at around 8:15 pm.

One passenger is said to have indicated that the plane, after trying to land in Chennai, had made a sudden steep descent, which put most of them “on edge”.

Another IndiGo Flight Returns to Chennai After Mid-Air Glitch

On Friday, another flight of Indigo, which was bound for Madurai, returned to Chennai following a mid-air glitch. After operating for approximately half an hour, the pilot of the Indigo Airlines aircraft noticed the problem and requested permission to return to Chennai and land. The aircraft that had approximately 68 passengers landed without incident.

The aircraft was grounded for maintenance, and a replacement was arranged. Similar technical snags also disrupted SpiceJet and another IndiGo flight this week.
</excerpt>

An IndiGo plane en route to Leh from Delhi was compelled to turn back to the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday after a technical glitch rendered it unsafe to land at the high-altitude destination.

The Airbus A320, flight 6E 2006, had been airborne for more than two hours when it turned back, according to data from flight tracking website Flightradar24.com. The company confirmed that the plane is currently undergoing required maintenance work before it can go back to normal operations.

In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson stated, “IndiGo flight 6E 2006 from Delhi to Leh on 19 June 2025, returned to its point of departure because of a technical problem which resulted in operational limitations to land at Leh. According to procedure, the pilot flew back to Delhi.”

In order to cause minimum inconvenience, IndiGo has pressed an alternate aircraft to transport the passengers to Leh without any delay.

This is the latest in a series of recent technical problems experienced by airlines. In another case on Thursday, a SpiceJet flight from Tirupati to Hyderabad returned to its point of departure soon after takeoff.

Flight SG 2696, which took off at 6:19 am and was expected to arrive in Tirupati by 7:40 am, turned back to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for a technical snag.

Only the day before, another IndiGo flight, one from Delhi to Raipur was in the news after passengers were left waiting on board for about 40 minutes after a landing. The door of the aircraft didn’t open on schedule because of what the airline called a small technical glitch.

That flight is said to have had former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Raipur Mayor Meenal Choubey on board.

</excerpt>

An IndiGo flight headed to Ranchi was compelled to land in an emergency on Monday, news agency PTI reported, quoting officials. Officials said that the emergency landing was a result of a bird strike and that all 175 passengers were safe.

Vulture Hit at 4,000 Feet Causes Aircraft Damage

PTI also reported that the plane was damaged after being struck by vulture at 4,000 feet altitude.

“An IndiGo flight suffered a bird hit near Ranchi. It was approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles away from here, at about 3,000 to 4,000 feet altitude, when the incident occurred. The IndiGo flight was coming from Patna to Ranchi, and the pilot had to make an emergency landing here,” Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, Director R R Maurya told news agency PTI.

He added that the “aircraft suffered a dent after being hit by a vulture. Engineers are assessing the damage.”

Recent Weather-Related Incident on IndiGo Flight to Delhi

On Sunday, an IndiGo flight going to Delhi was hit with severe turbulence because of the harsh weather in the national capital.

IndiGo Flight 6E 6313 Raipur to Delhi safely landed at the Delhi airport after orbiting in the air for a few hours because of the dust storm on Sunday.

Because of the intensity of the weather, the pilot canceled landing at Delhi airport and flew around in the air until the weather situation improved to land.

Hailstorm Forces Mid-Air Reroute on Srinagar-Bound IndiGo Flight

The incident is weeks after an IndiGo plane headed to Srinagar experienced severe turbulence shortly after taking off from Delhi’s IGI airport. The aircraft was hit by a heavy hailstorm while flying over Pathankot, Punjab and also experienced damage to the nose of the aircraft from the hail.

The hailstorm for the Srinagar flight led the IndiGo pilots to seek permission to fly into Pakistani airspace in an effort to escape the hailstorm and heavy rain. Permission was denied by the Indian Air Force as well as Lahore Air Traffic Control. The pilots proceeded to Srinagar and landed successfully.

IndiGo Srinagar Flight Faces Turbulence, ‘PAN PAN’ Call After Pakistan Airspace Denial

<excerpt>An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Srinagar faced severe turbulence during a storm, was denied entry into Pakistani airspace, and experienced a rapid descent. The crew declared a ‘PAN PAN’ emergency and safely landed the aircraft despite hail and external damage.
</excerpt>

Passengers on an IndiGo flight between New Delhi and Srinagar experienced a nightmarish ride on Wednesday evening when the plane was hit by severe turbulence in the midst of a strong hailstorm in northern India. The ordeal was further aggravated as the flight was engulfed in a fierce weather system while cruising over Pathankot, Punjab, at a height of 86,000 feet.

Denied Entry into Pakistani Airspace

In a bid to avoid the hazardous weather, the pilots requested clearance to divert left towards the International Border. This was however denied by the Indian Air Force’s Northern Control. A later request to Lahore Air Traffic Control to enter Pakistani airspace was also rejected.

“According to crew statement, they had asked for Northern control (IAF) for left deviation (International Border) because of weather on the way but that was not cleared,” a DGCA official is quoted as saying by PTI. “Subsequently, the crew had called Lahore to come into their airspace in order to bypass the weather but the same was denied too,” said DGCA.

Pilots Opt to Fly to Srinagar

Confronted with closed airspace and rapidly advancing storm clouds, the pilots considered turning back to Delhi. But with the storm so close and the position of the aircraft, the pilots decided to press on to Srinagar instead.

Once inside the storm, the aircraft encountered severe hail and turbulence, and a state of panic set in onboard with the 220+ passengers. The critical systems triggered warnings, and the aircraft was put through an immediate descent at a rate of 8,500 feet per minute, as indicated by the DGCA.

‘PAN PAN’ Emergency Call

In spite of the pandemonium, the crew was able to level the aircraft. “Crew flew the aircraft manually till they exited the hailstorm.”. Upon completing all check list procedures (ECAM procedures), the crew announced PAN PAN (urgency message) to Srinagar ATC and asked for RADAR vectors and landed safely with auto thrust in normal condition. There was no damage to any of the passengers on the flight. Post-flight walk-around indicated Nose radome damage,” the DGCA asserted in its official release.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation initiated an investigation into the accident.

Passengers allege partial refunds despite assurances of waivers and full reimbursements. The airline blames third-party platforms, triggering widespread customer frustration on social media.
</excerpt>

IndiGo has faced biting criticism after several passengers accused the airline of charging them exorbitant cancellation fees, even on flights that have been cancelled due to increased military tensions between India and Pakistan. The airline is currently facing questions on social media, with customers complaining that only partial refunds were made despite the fact that the cancellations were out of their control.

One traveller resorted to X (then Twitter) to point out that he was only given Rs. 2,050 in return for a ticket which had cost him more than Rs. 10,000 on a Chandigarh to Mumbai flight cancelled by IndiGo. He posted a screenshot showing Rs. 8,111 as airline cancellation charges and Rs. 300 as service charges.

He stated, “The flight was cancelled due to India-Pakistan tensions and you have the nerve to take 80% of fees!!! Other companies have refunded close to 100% of fares.” He also tagged the Ministry of Civil Aviation and asked, “is this legal?”

@IndiGo6E this is blatant Thuggery !!!

the flight was cancelled on account of India-Pakistan tensions and you have the audacity to deduct 80% of the fees !!!

other airlines have refunded nearly 100% of the fares @Ministry_CA is this allowed ?@JM_Scindia @HMOIndia pic.twitter.com/f3xAnRp9d4

In turn, IndiGo explained that the refund has been cleared from their end and hinted at a problem with a third-party booking site. The airline responded, “Sir, following our interaction, we’d like to reassure you that the full refund for your booking has been processed from our end. Based on the screenshot shared, it appears the information pertains to your travel agent’s platform. We kindly request you to reach out to them directly for assistance in claiming the refund. IndiGo and Air India on May 13 cancelled flights to and from nine major airports: Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, Jodhpur, Jamnagar, Bhuj, and Rajkot due to safety reasons. The cancellations were after a temporary resumption of operations, following a halt that started on May 7.

</excerpt>

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has stated that travelers who are asking for lower airfare do not consider the cost of operating an airline. While speaking in an interview, Elbers responded to criticism from the public regarding increasing airfare, stating that it could affect the long-term viability of airlines.

Air Sewa Cell and Market Competition

He was referring to recent reports indicating that the Centre has set up a specialized ‘Air Sewa’ cell to deal with passenger grievances against high airfare.

“To have a body like that is a good thing. Having said that, looking at the Indian market, it’s one of the most, if not the most competitive markets in the world. The average price levels are extremely competitive,” Elbers told.

IndiGo CEO on Airfare vs. Inflation

The CEO of low cost airline IndiGo said that airfares have not increased as much as inflation in the last few years.

“There must be a correlation between the cost of doing business and the price of airfares. Otherwise, you’ll be out of business,” he warned.

IndiGo CEO On Peak Season Demand

In March, a Parliamentary Committee recommended granting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) authority to impose temporary price controls or fines on unfairly high fares by airlines during peak seasons.

But IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers remarked India needs to go big if it is to establish globally competitive airlines. He added that hotels also charge peak pricing based on demand.

“If we want to build global aviation giants in India, we should also look at the global dynamics we’re operating in, and the kind of airlines we need for that scale,” he said.

“Yes, there are peaks, but so is that in hotels. On average, prices in India remain among the most competitive globally,” Elbers said.

Mahakumbh Pricing and Algorithmic Spikes

Several air travellers had slammed sky-high prices during Mahakumbh. Elbers denied that it was an example of systemic exploitation, calling it a result of demand-based algorithms.

“If there’s one ticket priced at ₹40,000 on a route, that’s occasional. Sometimes these systems push up prices,” he explained.

He further explained that the airline crew promptly relocated affected passengers to vacant seats and assured them that maintenance personnel would inspect the issue upon landing.

While acknowledging that the malfunction may not seem major, Sethi pointed out the potential risks, saying, “I wouldn’t want an elderly person with a medical condition sitting on such a seat mid-flight.”

IndiGo Responds with Apology and Investigation

Following the viral video, IndiGo addressed the matter in a comment on Sethi’s post, apologizing for the incident and assuring a thorough investigation.

“Mr. Sethi, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. We sincerely apologise for your onboard experience. Apparently this was an anomaly (sic), a very unusual occurrence as these seats have a locking mechanism,” the airline posted.

They went on to add, “Please be assured that your feedback is being taken extremely seriously and this will be investigated thoroughly. We understand our crew responded promptly to address the situation and provided you with an alternate seat. The safety and comfort of our customers remain our top most priority. We appreciate your feedback and assure you of our continued commitment to providing a safe, hassle-free, and enjoyable travel experience to all our customers. Team IndiGo.”

Social Media Responds to Mid-Air Seat Incident

The incident attracted a combination of responses from social media users. While some were amused by the incident, others expressed concern over IndiGo’s aircraft maintenance.

One user posted, “BYOS – bring your own seat.”

Another appreciated Sethi’s style, saying, “I liked how you shared your experience and not blasted the airline for not doing their job right. It speaks volumes about you.”

Others complained about IndiGo’s service quality, with one user commenting, “This is happening too much these days due to lack of competition. Indigo is in the worst condition in the last 7/8 months. I have travelled 2 times with @indigo.6e, which had damaged seats both times.”

Increasing Worries About Airline Maintenance

This has also brought under the spotlight aircraft maintenance and safety for the passengers. IndiGo, with its huge domestic network, has promised a complete investigation, but this incident is the latest in a string of recent grievances over in-flight encounters.

Passengers are still calling for improved safety measures and preventive maintenance so that such incidents do not take place at all in the future.

IndiGo added to the excitement with a mid-air celebration led by Captain Pradeep Krishnan. Gujarat Police ensured top-notch security, making the event both magical and safe.
</excerpt>

Coldplay’s much-awaited concerts in Ahmedabad are creating waves all over India as they are going to be the biggest concerts that the British band has ever conducted in the country. Fans from all over the country thronged Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat to witness a show to remember through Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and manager Phil Harvey, in their Music of the Spheres World Tour.It was to be an unforgettable experience, especially with the electrifying energy, dazzling lights, and magical ambiance.

The excitement about Coldplay did not stay on the ground but rather flew into the air! Video footage of IndiGo Captain Pradeep Krishnan talking to the passengers on board a Pune-Ahmedabad flight, many of whom were on their way to the concert, has been caught. The Captain humorously asked, “How many of you are going to the Coldplay concert? How many of you have two extra tickets?” which raised cheers and laughter on board.

Passengers turned the flight into a pre-concert celebration by recreating the iconic Coldplay Sky Full of Stars moment when they all switch on their phone flashlights. The dimmed cabin lit up with excitement as they spread the magic of the band before the concert even started.

</excerpt>

Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma criticized IndiGo Airlines on Monday, January 13, for alleged misconduct by a staff member at Delhi Airport. The 24-year-old all-rounder expressed his frustration on social media, claiming that mismanagement caused him to miss his flight, ruining his only holiday before joining the Indian team for the T20I series against England.

Abhishek alleged that counter manager Ms. Sushmita Mittal unnecessarily redirected him between counters, leading to delays. In a strongly worded Instagram story, he stated, “I had the worst experience with IndiGo at Delhi airport. The behaviour of staff, especially counter manager Ms. Sushmita Mittal, was absolutely unacceptable. I arrived on time at the correct counter, but they redirected me unnecessarily to another counter, only to tell me later that check-in was closed. This caused me to miss my flight.”

Cricketer’s Holiday Plans Disrupted by Indigo

Abhishek, who had recently represented Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, likely intended to spend his brief holiday with family and friends before joining the national squad in Kolkata for the much-anticipated five-match T20I series against England, starting January 22.

Despite his efforts to resolve the situation, Abhishek revealed that IndiGo staff offered no further assistance. “This is by far the worst airline experience and worst staff management I’ve ever had,” he added.

A Promising Talent Under the Spotlight

Abhishek Sharma’s selection in India’s T20I squad for the England series comes on the back of a stellar performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The left-handed batsman scored 467 runs in eight matches, including a century and three fifties.

Having made a sensational start to his T20I career with a century against Zimbabwe in July 2024, Abhishek is under scrutiny after inconsistent performances during India’s tour of South Africa in November. Pundits have defended his aggressive playing style, urging patience as he develops into a reliable middle-order batter.

The Indian squad, led by Suryakumar Yadav and coached by Gautam Gambhir, will begin preparations in Kolkata ahead of the January 22 opener.

</excerpt>

A peculiar incident onboard an IndiGo flight has created ripples of controversy after the video appeared on Instagram. In the clip, two men are seen walking down the aisle of the airplane carrying disposable cups and serving tea in it as done by the train staff in India. One of the men could be seen pouring tea from a bottle and the other serving a lady sitting on the seat.

Within the first 24 hours, the video received over 400k views and filled social media comments with a wide spectrum of reactions – from jokes to criticism. A user wrote, “Soon there will be mung phali wala chaat masala,” as he tried to equate the situation to train vendors selling street food. Others expressed dissatisfaction, one commenting, “This is why foreigners are speaking bad about India… please behave.

Another raised point was the safety and professionalisms. A sarcastic question asked, “Cabin crew, security wale konsa nasha karke baithe h (What are the cabin crew and security staff even doing)?”
This is the latest of a spate of airline incidents that have highlighted the actions of passengers and airlines. Scrutiny by the public has increased, especially concerning issues of safety and professionalism onboard.

Earlier, Trisha Shetty, founder of SheSays, had complained that IndiGo staff had not been of much help after her mother was allegedly robbed on board. According to Shetty, the cabin crew refused to help her mother file a complaint. She wrote, “Dear IndiGo, my mom got robbed on your flight 6E 17. Flight crew kept her handbag in the overhead. When she fell asleep, a passenger took her bag. Luckily, she woke up when he was replacing her bag. Your crew refused to help her file a complaint.”. They made excuses for the thief.” IndiGo responded by asking Shetty to share her contact details to resolve the issue.

Actor Shamita Shetty also shared her grievances against IndiGo, claiming her luggage was offloaded without prior notice due to weight limitations. Speaking in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Shamita said, “I have travelled from Jaipur to Chandigarh on an IndiGo airline, and my bags were just offloaded without informing me. I have come here for an event. My hairdresser’s bag and my bag were offloaded because of some weight issues. Am I not supposed to be informed before something like this is done? With the past incidents and this tea-serving video, the management of the airlines and the conduct of the passengers have come into question, and the entire airline industry and its patrons are being spotlighted.

Hundreds of IndiGo travelers had been stuck at Istanbul airport for over 24 hours due to delays in their flights to Delhi and Mumbai on Thursday. These delays created a ripple effect, impacting other flights on these routes.

Passengers expressed their frustration on social media about the prolonged wait and insufficient airport amenities.

On Friday evening, IndiGo reassured passengers that they had taken all necessary actions to keep them informed, providing refreshments and accommodations where possible.

However, on Saturday, the airline confirmed that Flight 6E 12, operating from Istanbul to Delhi, had been cancelled due to a technical issue on Friday, further disrupting passengers’ plans.

“Alternative aircraft have been arranged to transport passengers to their destination. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate their understanding in this matter,” the airline stated.

IndiGo operates two daily flights to Istanbul with leased Boeing 777 aircraft, one from Delhi and the other from Mumbai.

Details regarding the number of passengers on the cancelled flight were not immediately available

</excerpt>

Low-cost carrier IndiGo on Wednesday dismissed the results of a report that positioned the airline among the globe’s least favorable airlines for 2024. The “AirHelp Score report 2024” ranked IndiGo at 103rd out of 109 airlines evaluated, with Air India at 61st and AirAsia at 94th.

In a statement, IndiGo highlighted that India’s aviation authority, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), provides monthly statistics on airlines’ punctuality and customer complaints.

“IndiGo has consistently achieved high scores on punctuality and has the lowest ratio of customer complaints for an airline of its size and operational scale,” the airline declared.

IndiGo further criticized the AirHelp survey, noting that the report did not reveal the sample size for India and neglected to consider the global industry’s methodology or compensation standards, casting doubt on its reliability.

“As India’s most favored airline, IndiGo disproves the conclusions of this survey and reiterates its commitment to providing on-time, economical, courteous, and hassle-free travel experiences for its customers,” the airline mentioned.

According to DGCA statistics, IndiGo transported over 7. 25 crore passengers from January to September, achieving a 61. 3% market share. Meanwhile, Tata Group-operated Air India carried over 1. 64 crore passengers, holding a 13. 9% share.

Earlier, the Delhi government announced the imposition of Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) from Monday, following a sharp increase in the Air Quality Index (AQI), which crossed the 450 mark on Sunday, falling in the ‘Severe+’ category.

Delhi’s daily average AQI rose sharply to 441 by 4 PM on Sunday and escalated further to 457 by 7 PM, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This severe spike prompted an emergency meeting of the GRAP Sub-Committee.

“Keeping in view the prevailing trend of deteriorating air quality of NCR, and to prevent further deterioration of air quality in the region, the Sub-Committee today has taken the call to invoke all actions as envisaged under Stage-IV of GRAP – ‘Severe+’ Air Quality (Delhi’s AQI > 450), w.e.f. 08:00 AM of 18.11.2024 (tomorrow) in the entire NCR,” the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said in a statement.

This is in addition to the preventive/ restrictive actions mentioned under Stage I, Stage II, and Stage III of GRAP already in force.

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for the National Capital Region (NCR) is classified into four stages based on the adverse air quality in Delhi: Stage I — ‘poor’ (AQI 201-300); Stage II — ‘very poor’ (AQI 301-400); Stage III — ‘severe’ (AQI 401-450); and Stage IV — ‘severe plus’ (AQI >450).

The Stage-IV response includes an 8-point action plan aimed at mitigating the pollution crisis. Key measures include banning the entry of non-essential truck traffic into Delhi, except for trucks carrying essential commodities or providing essential services.

Shamita Shetty recently recounted a troubling experience on her IndiGo flight from Jaipur to Chandigarh, revealing that her luggage was offloaded due to weight restrictions without her consent. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the actress voiced her frustration, explaining in a video, “So I am stuck at the Chandigarh airport. I travelled from Jaipur to Chandigarh on an IndiGo airline and my bags were offloaded without informing me. I have come here for an event. My hairdresser’s bag and my bag were just offloaded because of some weight issues. Am I not supposed to be informed before something like this is done?”

Shetty further expressed her dissatisfaction with IndiGo’s handling of the situation, stating, “So IndiGo can just take the carte blanche of doing something like this without informing me and expect me to wait for their next flight to land in Chandigarh which is about 10.30 pm after my event is over. I have come here for an event like I said. And the ground staff does not know what to do or how to help us.”

“Flight 6E 2099, scheduled from Udaipur to Delhi, was relocated to the isolation bay before take-off as per security guidelines. All passengers were safely disembarked,” said an IndiGo spokesperson.

Threat Surge Overwhelms Airlines

In the past 12 days, Indian carriers have reported over 275 bomb threats, primarily originating from social media. Hoaxes have led to delays, diversions, and extensive searches, impacting operational efficiency and passenger schedules.

On Thursday, the Centre instructed social media platforms, including Meta and X, to cooperate in sharing data on individuals behind hoax threats. A source from a recent IT Ministry meeting stated, “The Ministry asked social media companies to promptly provide information related to these threats.”

Recent Security Incidents

Escalating threats have also resulted in serious incidents. Last week, Royal Air Force fighter jets intercepted an Air India flight from Mumbai to London after a bomb threat. Similarly, Singapore Armed Forces scrambled fighter jets to escort an Air India Express flight from Madurai, and the Nepalese Army deployed a bomb squad to Kathmandu airport following a threat to a Vistara flight from Delhi.

</excerpt>

Amid a series of bomb hoaxes affecting multiple flights over the past few days, at least 95 flights from IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, SpiceJet, Alliance Air, and Akasa Air received similar threats on Thursday. This incident has now impacted over 250 flights in the last ten days.

Officials reported that 25 Akasa Air flights, 20 from Air India, 20 from IndiGo, 20 from Vistara, and five each from SpiceJet and Alliance Air were targeted by these threats.

Before this latest occurrence, more than 170 flights had already received bomb threats, predominantly originating from social media, which ultimately proved to be hoaxes, causing significant inconvenience for passengers and posing a challenge for security forces and aviation authorities.

In response to these threats, the government plans to place individuals involved in making hoax calls on a no-fly list. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced that making hoax bomb threats to airlines would become a cognizable offense.

The flights affected include services from Akasa Air, Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara, operating from Delhi and other locations to various domestic and international destinations.

The Delhi Police have filed eight cases related to the bomb threats, and according to a senior police official, the threat messages were received via anonymous posts on X, which were subsequently suspended by authorities.

On October 19, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) held a meeting with airline CEOs and representatives in Delhi to address the issue.

Earlier on Wednesday, the central government reprimanded social media platform X for its role in the situation, stating it amounted to “abetting crime.”

In an exclusive interview with India Today TV’s Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the government was adhering to all necessary protocols and was managing the situation effectively.

When asked if the threats were part of a larger conspiracy, the minister advised caution, saying, “I wouldn’t make any hasty decision on this. Let us wait for the thorough investigation to happen. Once we get hold of who is behind this, only then can we tell if there is a conspiracy or if there is some intention regarding the festive season or trying to affect the airlines.”

The Civil Aviation Minister underscored the role of social media and cyber channels in these threats, mentioning that while many IP addresses might indicate foreign locations, they could be rerouted through VPNs, complicating the investigation.

</excerpt>

An IndiGo flight from Pune to Bengaluru faced a significant delay on September 24, after the pilot refused to take off, citing duty time limitations. The incident, which led to a five-hour delay, has drawn widespread attention after a video capturing the frustration of passengers went viral on social media.

Pilot’s Decision Based on Safety Protocols

The flight, scheduled to depart Pune at 12:45 AM, eventually took off at 5:44 AM, landing in Bengaluru around 6:50 AM, according to data from FlightRadar24. The delay occurred after the pilot stated he would exceed his permissible working hours, a regulation put in place by aviation authorities to ensure passenger safety.

WATCH THE VIRAL VIDEO:

Indigo flight was delayed for 5 hrs after Pilot refuses to take off due to work hrs ending.

Frustration pf Passengers can clearly be seen. But Why blame only the Pilot ??

Blame the company not the crew. Indigo has become a joke? pic.twitter.com/0ohOOTi3RG

— Avishek Goyal (@AG_knocks) October 2, 2024

Aviation expert Sanjay Lazar clarified the situation in a viral post, stating that pilots cannot exceed their duty limits without facing penalties, including potential repercussions on their licenses. “The pilot knows what he’s doing. He didn’t cause the delay – safety protocols did,” Lazar explained, emphasizing the importance of such regulations for the safety of passengers and crew.

Passenger Frustration Amid Lack of Communication

While the pilot’s decision was grounded in safety, the passengers onboard expressed dissatisfaction with how the situation was handled. In the viral video, passengers can be seen standing up and demanding an explanation, while the pilot is shown closing the cockpit door. The lack of clear communication from the airline further fueled frustration.

A post on Instagram claimed that passengers were not provided with refreshments during the extended wait and that no compensation was offered. Many took to social media to voice their displeasure with the way the situation was managed, questioning why they had to remain onboard for such an extended period without adequate information.

IndiGo Responds to the Incident

IndiGo released a statement on September 30, acknowledging the delay and explaining that it was due to “operational reasons related to flight duty time limitations.” The airline added that customers had been informed of the delay and assured that their team was available to assist passengers throughout the wait.

“Flight 6E 361 scheduled to operate from Pune to Bengaluru on September 24, 2024, was delayed due to operational reasons related to flight duty time limitations. Customers were kept informed about the delay and our team was available throughout the duration to assist customers. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the airline’s statement read.

Aviation Safety and Regulations at the Forefront

While the delay understandably caused inconvenience to passengers, aviation experts reiterated that such regulations exist to ensure safety, and pilots must adhere to them. This incident has sparked a broader conversation about the need for better communication from airlines when such delays occur, as well as improved services for passengers during extended wait times.

As the video continues to circulate online, it serves as a reminder of the complexities of air travel, where safety regulations must balance with customer satisfaction.

</excerpt>

An undated video has surfaced online showing Indigo passengers at Mumbai airport expressing outrage after their flight was delayed and eventually cancelled without prior notice. The video, which has gone viral on social media, captures a tense confrontation between frustrated passengers and the airline’s ground staff, who reportedly did not inform them of the cancellation in a timely manner.

According to the passengers, they had been waiting inside the aircraft for several hours before being told to disembark, leading to a heated exchange between passengers and staff.

“Aap Kya Kar Rahe Ho?” Passenger Yells at Indigo Staff

In the footage shared on the social media platform X, an irate male passenger can be seen shouting at a ground staff member, asking, “Aap kya kar rahe ho?” as he waved his hand in frustration. Two women soon joined him in questioning the staff, with one accusing the airline of “time pass” and failing to notify the passengers of the delay. Another woman complained that other flights were taking off as scheduled, while theirs had been grounded since 9 am.

Staff Praised for Keeping Calm Amid Anger

Despite facing intense criticism, Indigo’s ground staff remained composed, with many internet users praising their ability to handle the situation calmly. “Service industry employees face countless difficult clients, and it’s commendable how they stay composed under pressure,” one social media user commented.

WATCH THE VIRAL VIDEO:

Hats off to this Air hostess for showing calmness in face of aggressive behaviour.

However, some users empathized with the passengers, calling the five-hour delay unacceptable. “The poor passengers have no option but to be aggressive because no one listens to them. Five hours delay is too much for a flight of 1-2 hours,” wrote one commenter.

Delayed Flight Between Mumbai and Qatar

The incident reportedly took place on a Mumbai to Qatar Indigo flight, which was delayed by more than five hours. After passengers had already boarded the aircraft, they were asked to disembark and wait at the airport with little communication from the airline. This lack of transparency led to the chaotic scene captured in the viral video.

While the passengers expressed their frustration with the on-ground staff, several internet users pointed out that the responsibility for such delays should be directed toward upper management rather than frontline employees.

Mixed Reactions Online

The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with some siding with the passengers’ frustration over the lack of communication, while others sympathized with the airline employees. “I feel sorry for those air hostesses! People should understand that there is nothing in their hands,” an X user said, echoing the sentiment that airline staff are often unfairly blamed for issues beyond their control.

</excerpt>

IndiGo Airlines is under fire on social media for its latest advertisement promoting “girl power,” with critics accusing the airline of hypocrisy. The ad, featuring a female flight attendant alongside the tagline “Escaping patriarchy at 800 kmph,” has sparked a wave of backlash, with many arguing that IndiGo’s hiring practices contradict the ad’s message.

Critics claim that the airline’s policy of hiring only female cabin crew, combined with requiring them to wear makeup and high heels, does little to challenge patriarchy. One social media user commented, “Forcing young women to wear heavy makeup and high heels in a job that demands long hours on their feet does nothing to ‘smash patriarchy.’ If anything, it’s the opposite.”

Other users echoed similar sentiments, pointing out the contradiction in promoting a role reserved for women with strict appearance and beauty standards while claiming to empower them. Some sarcastically noted that the job involves serving food and handling difficult passengers while maintaining a specific appearance for low pay.

One user compared IndiGo to rival Akasa Air, which employs both men and women as cabin crew and focuses more on comfort than appearance-based standards.

Despite some support for the ad, such as praise from social media user Adithya Venkatesan, the overwhelming response has been critical. IndiGo, which holds over 60% of the market share in India’s aviation industry, has yet to respond to the criticism.

</excerpt>

IndiGo Airlines apologized on Saturday (September 7) following an incident on their Delhi-Varanasi flight where passengers experienced discomfort due to an air conditioning malfunction.
IndiGo’s Response

IndiGo issued a statement saying, “We extend our apologies for the inconvenience experienced on flight 6E 2235 operating from Delhi to Varanasi on September 5, 2024.” They attributed the discomfort to temperature fluctuations, which were adjusted based on passenger feedback. The airline added that the cabin crew provided immediate assistance to those affected.

Past Incident

A similar situation occurred in June on a Delhi-Bagdogra flight when the AC malfunctioned for an hour, causing elderly passengers to struggle with breathing. IndiGo responded by stating, “IndiGo flight 6E 2521 between Delhi and Bagdogra was delayed due to high ground temperatures affecting operations. We prioritize passenger safety and regret the inconvenience caused by these uncontrollable factors.”

Instagram user Aishwarya Bansal recently took her proposal to new heights—literally—by expressing her love mid-air on an IndiGo flight.

Bansal shared a video capturing the heartwarming moment when she walked down the flight aisle and got down on one knee to propose to her boyfriend, Amulya Goyal. The video, which has since gone viral, opens with the couple boarding the flight. As Bansal makes her way toward Goyal, a flight attendant announces the surprise over the intercom, setting the stage for a touching moment.

As Bansal approaches her boyfriend, four fellow passengers hold up signs that spell out the question, “Will you marry me?” The video then shows her expressing her love and sliding a ring onto Goyal’s finger, sealing the proposal in front of an applauding audience.

In the caption accompanying the video, Bansal shared her excitement and the spontaneity of the idea. She wrote, “Omg, the way I thought it was better than that. I wanted to surprise him in some unique way, and randomly, this idea came to my mind. I was not even sure if the crew would allow it or not, but now you know what happened.”

If it’s like that, then I can propose my husband once again for marriage.” Another user, intrigued by the logistics, asked, “Please, can you help me how you requested IndiGo to do this? According to the post, IndiGo lost the passenger’s luggage, which contained items valued at Rs. 45,000, including important documents such as the Aadhar card, PAN card, and driving license. Despite the severity of the loss, the airline offered only Rs. 2,450 as compensation.

Ravi Handa, the X user who posted about the incident, stated, “It was checked in at Kolkata airport. It never reached Guwahati. How can it vanish mid-air? Was the plane leaking bags?”

He went on to express his frustration, saying, “Around a month later, IndiGo returned with a ‘compensation’ offer of Rs. 2,450. It’s ridiculous—just the bag alone costs more than that. Apparently, there’s a rule that the airline is liable for a maximum of Rs. 350 per kilogram if they lose the bag. This is just adding insult to injury. If someone from IndiGo’s social media team is reading this, please help him out. Rs. 2,450 won’t cover the loss.”

The post, shared on August 24, quickly gained traction, amassing over three lakh views and nearly 2,000 likes. Many users responded in the comments section with their thoughts.

One individual commented, “The airlines ask you not to keep any valuables (cash and jewellery especially) in the checked-in luggage. Even important documentation like DL, PAN etc. Even a consumer court can’t help here, move on.”

Another user offered practical advice, saying, “Credit cards often include baggage loss insurance. PS: as a general rule, avoid placing valuables in your checked luggage. Anyone can access your bag during transit, and no one is responsible for anything missing from it.”

A third user shared a personal strategy, writing, “My family rule. No valuables in check-in. A day’s spare set of clothes is in everyone’s carry-in. I always assume the airline is going to misplace my check-in baggage. My family thinks I’m weird for this. But I’d rather be safe than sorry.”

</excerpt>

In a frustrating incident that underscores the challenges travelers face, Monik Sharma from Assam lost his luggage while flying on IndiGo’s domestic route from Kolkata to Guwahati. The lost bag reportedly contained items valued at Rs 45,000, including important documents such as a driving license, PAN card, and Aadhaar card. Despite the significant loss, IndiGo offered Sharma a compensation of just Rs 2,450, sparking outrage and raising concerns about airline compensation policies.

Social Media Outcry Over Meager Compensation

The incident gained attention after one of Sharma’s friends posted about the situation on social media. The post highlighted the inadequate compensation offered by IndiGo, pointing out the disparity between the value of the lost items and the airline’s offer. The friend noted that the luggage was lost during a major Crowdstrike outage that disrupted airline operations. “How can it vanish mid-air? Was the plane leaking bags?” the post sarcastically asked, emphasizing the frustration and disbelief over the incident.

HAVE A LOOK:

Every day you learn how the system can mess you up in a new way. @IndiGo6E lost my friend’s @nik1220‘s baggage on a domestic flight (Kolkata-Guwahati).

The bag had stuff worth 45k in it along with important papers like Driving License, PAN, Aadhar, etc.

It was checked in at… pic.twitter.com/L54ZUtOpHr

Airline Policies Under Scrutiny

According to the social media post, the compensation amount was based on an airline policy that limits liability to Rs 350 per kilogram of lost baggage. This policy, intended to cover losses, has been criticized for being insufficient, particularly when the contents of the lost luggage are of high value. The friend pointed out that the compensation offered wouldn’t even cover the cost of the lost bag itself, let alone its valuable contents.

IndiGo Promises Further Investigation

In response to the social media outcry, IndiGo’s social media team contacted Sharma’s friend, assuring him that they would further investigate the matter. However, it remains unclear whether the luggage has been located or if any additional compensation will be provided.

Public Reactions and Advice

The incident has sparked widespread discussion among social media users, many of whom shared their experiences and offered advice. Some users emphasized that airlines often advise passengers not to place valuables or important documents in checked luggage. Others suggested that Sharma should check the lost and found departments at both airports, as there is a possibility that the luggage was mistakenly taken by another passenger.

The Broader Issue of Airline Compensation

This incident brings to light the broader issue of airline compensation policies and the frustrations passengers face when their luggage is lost or damaged. As travelers increasingly rely on air travel, the need for fair and adequate compensation policies becomes more pressing. The public’s reaction to Sharma’s case reflects a growing demand for airlines to provide more substantial compensation for lost or damaged luggage, ensuring that passengers are not left to bear the brunt of such unfortunate situations.
