The video, posted by Instagram user Ankit Kumar, shows a group of Indian passengers standing and chatting mid-flight, despite repeated requests from the cabin crew to remain seated.

Passengers Ignoring Safety Protocols

The video, which has garnered over 1.5 million views, begins with a man standing at his seat and facing another passenger in the row behind him to have a conversation. The footage then shows a group of 5-6 people standing and talking while the plane is still in the air. Toward the end of the video, some passengers are seen standing and eating, ignoring the cabin crew’s requests for them to remain seated.

Passenger Frustration: A Growing Online Outcry

The behaviour was met with frustration from fellow passengers. Kumar, who recorded the video, expressed his disappointment, stating, “Indians enjoy getting themselves insulted everywhere. They have literally turned the flight into a train. They are standing and traveling.” Other social media users chimed in with their own opinions. One user wrote, “Again proved. Money doesn’t get you class!”

Cultural Shock: A Shared Experience

Others shared similar experiences of uncomfortable in-flight encounters. One person recounted their trip to Thailand, where the flight attendants had to intervene as passengers were standing, and a fellow traveler was eating paan masala mid-flight. Another user humorously remarked, “Looks like some people think the plane is a flying local train waiting for the next stop mid-air!”

Humour Amidst Frustration: Comments Flood in

Despite the frustration, many took to humor to lighten the mood. One commented, “On trains, they fight for seats,” while another added, “Sit tight, folks, the pilot’s not opening the door anytime soon!” These light-hearted comments suggest that the issue of in-flight behavior may be more widespread than originally thought.

The Debate Continues

The video has raised questions about public behaviour, particularly during air travel, where safety protocols should take priority. While some argue it’s a matter of lack of civic sense, others believe it’s a broader issue that needs to be addressed through awareness and cultural sensitivity.

This viral incident has sparked widespread discussions on social media platforms, and it seems that the conversation around in-flight manners is just getting started.

</excerpt>

India, known for its vast diversity, is often depicted through contrasting images. While the country boasts shiny, efficient Vande Bharat trains, it also faces overcrowded express and mail trains, particularly during the holiday season when millions of additional passengers flood the system. These scenes are not new, and they reflect broader systemic issues that go beyond just the railways.

During India’s peak festive season in October and November, images of overcrowded trains are a common sight. The rush, especially towards Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, is due to the migration of workers celebrating festivals like Diwali and Chhath. This is compounded by the sowing season, when many migrant laborers head to large farms in Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh.

In contrast, China’s annual Spring Festival, which marks the world’s largest migration, provides an example of how a country has improved its railway network to handle huge volumes of travel. According to Xinhua, travel increased by 27% in 2024, with 195 million trips taken, and rail traffic doubled to 8.2 million trips. The efficiency of China’s transportation system during the Lunar New Year contrasts sharply with the chaos in India during its festive season.

India, despite its efforts, continues to face overcrowding in trains. Between October 1 and November 3, the Indian Railways ran 4,521 special trains, carrying around 65 lakh passengers, mostly to and from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. However, the addition of trains hasn’t been enough to address the growing demand, and overcrowding remains a perennial issue. The system struggles with saturated tracks, particularly in heavily populated states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi-Howrah line, for instance, still remains a double line, causing massive bottlenecks at key junctions. The introduction of two Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) aims to ease this by taking freight off these tracks, but the improvements are still in progress.

China, which used to face similar overcrowding problems, has transformed its transportation system in just two decades. It built the world’s largest high-speed rail network, which now spans over 46,000 kilometers. The high-speed rail system, which began in 2003, has reduced travel times and significantly alleviated congestion during peak travel periods like the Lunar New Year.

Meanwhile, India’s reliance on trains for long-distance travel continues. However, unlike China, the bulk of travel in India still occurs via rail during festivals, with limited options for other modes of transport, especially for migrant workers. Though India’s road network has expanded rapidly, the high cost of air travel makes it impractical for many workers, particularly during festive seasons. High airfares often rival the cost of international flights, and dynamic pricing on trains exacerbates the situation, making tickets prohibitively expensive for many.

India’s rail system, despite its efforts to add more trains, is still struggling to meet demand. Special unreserved trains, such as Jan Sewa, Antodyay, and Jansadharan, are often inserted into already full schedules, leading to delays and overcrowding. This chronic issue has resulted in videos of people traveling in overcrowded trains, even in the toilets, as the fight for space intensifies.

The difference in per capita vehicle ownership and economic conditions between China and India also plays a role. China’s GDP is nearly 2.5 times higher than India’s, allowing a higher number of people to afford personal vehicles, which eases the strain on public transport systems during busy periods. In contrast, India’s lower GDP and limited vehicle ownership contribute to the high dependency on the railway system.

China’s growth in road travel during the Spring Festival, with over 184 million road trips in 2024, reflects how self-driven transportation has helped alleviate pressure on rail and air networks. In India, the migrant population still relies heavily on rail transport, especially during peak seasons when tickets are scarce and unaffordable.

The challenge India faces is not just overcrowding but the lack of sufficient rail capacity, which is exacerbated by an underdeveloped air network and overcrowded roads. While India is seeing improvements in its road and air networks, it is still struggling to match the pace of development in rail infrastructure. To truly address these problems, India needs to enhance rail capacity while continuing to develop its road and air networks to ease the load on the rail system.

As India’s economy grows, it must also ensure that the needs of its large population, especially migrant workers, are met with dignity and comfort during travel. Despite the challenges, India can learn from China’s success in managing large-scale travel and apply similar efforts to modernize and expand its own rail network. Ultimately, better rail services can ensure that facilities like train toilets are used for their intended purpose, rather than as makeshift spaces for overcrowded passengers.

</excerpt>

Swami Vivekananda’s statement on freedom, “Freedom is the song of the soul. The goal of each soul is freedom – mastery, freedom from the slavery of matter and thought, mastery of the internal and external,” emphasizes the universal pursuit of liberation.

Seventy-seven years have passed since our nation gained independence, liberating us from the chains of slavery. Conventional emblems of freedom, such as flag-raising, rendition of the national anthem, and the recitation of slogans like “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Hind,” are frequently perceived as demonstrations of our liberty. The sacrifice of many individuals paved the way for liberation from external rule, emphasising the price of the freedoms we cherish. As we commemorate seventy-seven years of independence, it is essential to consider whether our current state aligns with the true freedom envisioned by the martyrs or if we have fallen short of their aspirations.

When we discuss freedom, we often talk about fundamental rights. While political and social independence is frequently praised, we should also consider how individuals see freedom in different parts of their lives, including work. Do most people in our country genuinely understand their fundamental rights, which are meant to protect an undefined essence of freedom? Freedom means being free from outside control. Fundamental rights protect citizens’ freedoms, stop the government from getting involved, and are essential for personal and national development. These rights include freedom of speech, association, individual liberty, living with dignity, and respecting human dignity. The necessity for safeguarding something often stems from the fear of its loss. Do these fundamental rights truly protect our freedom? It is imperative to deliberate on the extent of self-governance inherent within freedom circumscribed by legal statutes.

Are we experiencing limited freedom wrapped in the fundamental rights described as the rights needed for thinking freely? The question arises: What special rights should we be aware of? The Constitution is the mother of freedom, and because of this, we can safeguard our limited freedom under the umbrella of the law. Regarding the right to education, it must guarantee free and compulsory education for children aged six to fourteen. Does this education provide basic literacy, or does it deliver a more comprehensive learning experience? We should be hopeful that a child should receive education up to the eighth standard. It is crucial to strive for more than entry-level jobs or roles as security guards. With seventy-seven years of freedom, having a significant population with only an eighth-grade education is unacceptable. While advocating self-reliance, labelling basic literacy as education is contradictory.

Ignorance is the barrier to the realisation of freedom used as a toolkit in the political system. It is essential to acknowledge and be grateful for the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar, who, through their unique experiences, recognised the potential for freedom. Gandhi’s experiences in South Africa highlighted the significance of freedom for the ordinary person, leading him to focus on improving village life. On the other hand, Dr. Ambedkar’s exposure to discrimination in the USA and Britain emphasised the need for equal rights, thus significantly contributing to establishing our right to equality. For many years, the politicians in state power did not do what visionary leaders did. Instead, they used the population for political gain. They needed to provide well-kept roads, transparent governance, consistent electricity and clean water, good homes, high-quality education for their children, and enough healthcare services. They benefited from their ignorance because they had not seen the possibilities.

We have a common saying that “Divide and Rule” was the policy of the Britishers, but what are today’s politicians doing, dividing on caste and religion? Taking the benefit of their ignorance by providing a package of freebies and cash is the easiest way to remain in power. Improving and elevating their needs will not only do groundwork and dedication. The new slavery system is growing by putting the amount so that their position is always in power.

Everyone needs to have fundamental rights to live a good life with dignity. We need to think about things differently as India grows and aims high. We should add more rights, like the right to social security. Even though we pay many taxes, we still need social security. We also need to make sure people have jobs. Instead of giving money to people without jobs, we should give them an excellent education to support themselves. The urgent need for more rights, like social security, should make us feel the need for immediate social reforms. Social, economic, and political unfairness stop us from being truly free. We need to fix these problems before we can say we are free.

Many in the crowd were seen waving the flags of both nations, while others captured the moment on their cameras. The video, which has garnered over two million views since it was posted, has resonated deeply with viewers, evoking a strong sense of camaraderie.

One commenter on the video highlighted the irony, saying, “Celebrating independence day at the colonizers’ home.” Another expressed admiration for the unity displayed, stating, “Divided by UK, United in UK.” The video has sparked numerous reactions, with many emphasizing that while political differences may exist between India and Pakistan, the people share a close bond, especially when abroad.

The video serves as a reminder of the unifying power of music and the shared cultural heritage of the two nations, even as they celebrate their independence.

</excerpt>

Russian embassy in New Delhi announced on Saturday that it is collaborating closely with Indian authorities to facilitate the early identification and release of Indian nationals involved in Russia’s ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine. This follows multiple appeals from Indian citizens caught in the conflict, who claim they were coerced into participating in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war under the pretense of job opportunities in Russia.

Russian Embassy Acknowledges Voluntary Participation

In a statement, the Russian embassy in Moscow emphasized that the Indian nationals involved in the conflict did so voluntarily by contracting for military service in Russia. The embassy assured that all contractual obligations and compensation payments would be fully honored. It also expressed deep condolences to the Government of India and the families of those who lost their lives, acknowledging that several Indians have died during their involvement in the war.

Russia Halts Recruitment of Foreign Nationals

The Russian Ministry of Defence has taken steps to prevent further foreign involvement in the conflict. Since April, it has stopped the recruitment of citizens from several countries, including India, into its armed forces. This decision comes in the wake of rising concerns over the involvement of foreign nationals in the Ukraine war.

Indian Government’s Response

Earlier this week, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the issue in the Lok Sabha, revealing that 91 Indian nationals had been recruited into the Russian army, with 69 awaiting release. He confirmed the deaths of eight Indians, with four bodies already repatriated. Jaishankar also acknowledged that some Indians were misled into joining the Russian army under false pretenses, and the government is actively working to bring them back. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered cases against 19 individuals and entities, with evidence against 10 human traffickers already identified.

Jaishankar assured Parliament that India is holding the Russian government accountable for the safe return of its citizens, emphasizing that no Indian should be serving in a foreign military.

The rioting escalated after the stabbing of three young girls in Southport last week. This incident has been exploited by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups, with disinformation spread online and amplified by far-right figures. The unrest began after claims surfaced that a suspect in the stabbing was a radical Islamist. However, police have clarified that the 17-year-old suspect, born in Britain to Rwandan immigrants, is not considered a terrorist threat.

</excerpt>

More than 4,500 Indian nationals and nearly 540 citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives have returned from Bangladesh with the assistance of Indian authorities following violent protests against job quotas in the neighbouring country.

A countrywide curfew remained in force in Bangladesh on Sunday, with the army deployed to quell the protests that have resulted in the death of at least 110 people and injuries to hundreds more. The curfew, imposed at midnight on Friday, was expected to last until Sunday morning as police attempted to bring the deteriorating security situation under control. The curfew was briefly lifted on Saturday afternoon to allow people to run essential errands. Still, otherwise, people were ordered to remain at home, with all gatherings and demonstrations banned. The government also imposed a communications blackout, blocking all internet and social media access since Thursday night.

More than 4,500 Indian students have returned home, and 500 students from Nepal, 38 from Bhutan, and one from the Maldives have also arrived in India, according to a statement by the external affairs ministry. The Indian high commission in Dhaka has been arranging security escorts for the safe travel of Indian nationals to land border crossing points. The high commission and assistant high commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna are in regular contact with Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals.

The external affairs ministry had said on Friday that there were an estimated 15,000 Indians, including around 8,500 students, in Bangladesh, and assured that all Indians were safe. The Indian missions in Bangladesh remain available to provide any assistance required by Indian nationals through their emergency contact numbers.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her willingness to provide shelter in her state to people from Bangladesh who are in distress. She stated, “I should not be speaking on the affairs of Bangladesh since it is a sovereign nation and whatever needs to be said on the issue is a subject matter of the Centre. But I can tell you this, if helpless people come knocking on the doors of [West] Bengal, we will surely provide them shelter.” Banerjee referred to the UN resolution on refugees to justify her stand, citing the example of people from Assam being allowed to live in the Alipurduars area of West Bengal during the Bodo agitation.

However, an official stated that such matters are handled by the central government, and a state government has no locus standi on the issue. Banerjee also said her government would provide help to residents of West Bengal whose relatives may have been stranded in Bangladesh because of the violence and assist Bangladeshi citizens in West Bengal facing difficulties in returning home. She appealed to the people of West Bengal to exercise restraint and avoid provocation regarding the situation in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Supreme Court on Sunday struck down a high court order that had reinstated job quotas for the kin of veterans of the 1971 war of liberation. The high court’s order, issued in June, had triggered the violent protests largely spearheaded by students. Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, coordinators of the anti-job quota movement vowed to continue their protests and demanded action against those responsible for the killing of students during the protests.

</excerpt>

As part of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s efforts to regulate immigration, the UK government has raised the minimum income threshold for sponsoring family members’ visas as dependents, sparking concerns within the Indian community due to stricter eligibility criteria. This change, coupled with recent adjustments to visas for work, study, and post-study work routes, particularly affects Indian students and workers in the UK.

Sanam Arora, founder of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK, emphasized the importance of the Graduate visa for Indian students, highlighting its significance within the UK’s higher education system.

Anahita Masters, an alumna of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), expressed concern over the impact on post-graduate research students and their dependents, particularly women, due to restrictions on bringing dependents.

The minimum income requirement for work visa dependents has surged, with social care workers unable to bring any dependents regardless of income. These changes add to a series of visa regulations, including the prohibition of bringing dependents on student visas since January.

With the possibility of the Graduate route visa being discontinued, Arora warned of potential financial repercussions for universities, affecting both international and domestic students and the country’s research endeavors.

Masters highlighted the challenges faced by sole breadwinners and Indian women, citing her own experience as a mother studying at LSE, emphasizing the importance of the dependent clause for students with families.

</excerpt>

Roughly 5,000 Indian nationals are allegedly being detained in Cambodia and coerced into conducting online scams targeting Indians in their home country. The extensive magnitude of the fraud, with estimated proceeds totaling a staggering ₹500 crore over the past six months, has spurred collaborative efforts between the two nations to dismantle the operation.

“We have seen the media reports on Indian nationals stuck in Cambodia. Our Embassy in Cambodia has been promptly responding to complaints from Indian nationals who were lured with employment opportunities to that country but were forced to undertake illegal cyber work,” the Ministry of External Affairs said, adding that around 250 Indians have been “rescued and repatriated” so far.

As per media accounts, individuals held in Cambodia were compelled to engage in scam activities targeting people in India. They reportedly posed as law enforcement officials, contacting potential victims and claiming that suspicious items were discovered in packages sent by them, thereby extorting money from them.

The police first became aware of this extensive scam late last year after a senior central government employee reported being defrauded of more than ₹67 lakh and lodged a complaint. On December 30, the Rourkela Police in Odisha dismantled a cyber-crime syndicate and apprehended eight individuals purportedly linked to the operation of relocating people to Cambodia.

“We arrested eight persons from different parts of the country and have prima facie evidence against multiple people involved in the scam. We issued Look Out Circulars against 16, following which the Bureau of Immigration detained two men – Harish Kurapati and Naga Venkata Sowjanya Kurapati – at the Hyderabad airport after they landed from Cambodia,” an officer said, the Indian Express reported.

The Modus Operandi

Stephen, one of the individuals rescued from Cambodia, holds an ITI degree. He revealed to The Indian Express that when the coronavirus pandemic hit, he pursued some computer courses. He went on to elaborate on the modus operandi of the racket.

“An agent in Mangaluru offered me a data entry job in Cambodia. There were three of us, including one Babu Rao from Andhra Pradesh. At the immigration, the agent said we were going on a tourist visa, which made me suspicious,” he told Express.

According to Stephen, they were escorted to an office in Cambodia where they underwent interviews. He mentioned that only two out of the three managed to pass the interview. Stephen noted that the boss was Chinese, with a Malaysian aiding in translation for them.

“They tested our typing speed among other things,” he said. “It was only later that we found out that our job was to look for profiles on Facebook and identify people who can be scammed. The team was Chinese, but a Malaysian translated the instructions to English,” he added.

A Day In The Lives Of Cyber Slaves

Compelled to impersonate women using fabricated social media profiles and fake photos, the men were assigned daily quotas, facing repercussions for failing to meet them. This was the daily routine for recruits in a country where they were enticed with the “promise” of better job prospects.

Stephen, as cited in The Indian Express report, stated that the “cyber slaves” endured periods without food or rest if they failed to meet their daily targets.

“We had to create fake social media profiles with pictures of women sourced from different platforms. We were told to be careful while picking the photos,” he said.

“A “South Indian woman” would trap someone in the north to avoid raising any suspicion. We had targets and if we didn’t meet them, we would not get food or be allowed to go to our rooms. Finally, after a month and a half, I contacted my family and with the help of some local politicians, they managed to speak to the Embassy,” he said.

How Were The Indians Scammed

Rourkela police official Upasana Padhi informed The Indian Express that the accused lured the men, or potential scammers, to Cambodia under the pretense of offering employment opportunities.

Upon arrival, the men were coerced into joining companies involved in fraudulent activities, she noted. These companies confiscated their passports, rendering them unable to leave, and compelled them to work 12-hour shifts each day.

“If anyone refused to do what is asked of him, he would be tortured by way of physical assaults, electric shocks, solitary confinement, etc. Many Indians not willing to engage in such scams are trapped there. We are trying to identify, contact, and bring them back through proper channels,” Ms Padhi said.

The scammers would pose as women on dating apps and chat with the potential targets. “After some time, they would convince the target to invest in cryptocurrency trading. Many were duped in India this way,” she said.

According to the Rourkela Police, the agents got the men to join another company that focused on investment scams in October 2023. “This company lured people to invest in fake stocks. They also created a fake online app,” the officer said.

Ms. Padhi stated that the police have amassed critical details, such as the whereabouts of the fraudulent companies, their agents, methods of operation, and organizational structure.

Additionally, they have pinpointed three senior operatives of Indian descent and one senior operative from Nepal. “We intend to arrest key players in this scam with the help of Interpol,” she added.

These young men traveled to Libya in February of this year after false travel agencies promised them jobs in Italy. They were all taken from India to Dubai and subsequently to Egypt in February 2023.

They were landed in Libya and held in Zuwara City after a few days. These young guys, visibly disturbed and shocked, recalled their harrowing experiences in the North African country, where they had to survive on a meager supper of bread, suffered frequent punishment for missed deadlines, and were sold as labor many times.

Last month, Indian officials rescued 17 Indian youngsters from Libya, the most of whom were from the Punjab and Haryana regions.

“We were sold to the mafia, who were engaged in the labour work at construction sites. They used to give us only one or two slices of bread. We were sold many times,” said Manpreet Singh.

Mumbai Indians chased down the target of 213 runs against RR to clinch the match by 6 wickets in a thrilling 1000th IPL game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Jaiswal, who sent Cameron Green to the stands on the fourth ball of the first over, was unquestionably the star of the evening. His innings exuded quality as he found space when there was none and scored his first IPL century with several powerful strokes. His innings, which included 16 boundaries and 8 maximums, helped his team to a respectable total.

Yashasvi Jaiswal lit up the Wankhede Stadium with a whirlwind 124 off 62 balls to power RR to a daunting 212/7.

It was a splendid innings on a special occasion, as Mumbai was treated to a run-fest at the brimmed Wankhede Stadium.

“I watched Jaiswal last year; he’s taken it to the next level. I asked him, “Where did you get the power from?” He said he’s been going to the gym; that’s good for him, India, and RR,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

Rohit expressed his satisfaction with the team’s approach to pursuing the high total.
“It was encouraging to see how we tracked the target down. We nearly beat them in the previous game as well, so we positioned ourselves to pursue them. So it was enjoyable. Tim (David) is extremely talented and powerful. That is beneficial and helpful in the long run, Rohit continued.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sebi’s Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch, Sail Chairperson Soma Mondal, Biocon Chair Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, and Nykaa Founder and CEO Falguni Nayar were on the list of Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women.

Forbes ranked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen first on the 19th annual Forbes list of the world’s 100 most powerful women for her leadership during the Ukraine war. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde was ranked second, US Vice President Kamala Harris was ranked third, GM Motors Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra was ranked fourth, and Fidelity Investments CEO Abigail Johnson was ranked fifth.

Forbes said the list was determined by four main metrics: money, media, impact, and spheres of influence. For political leaders, we weighed gross domestic products and populations; for corporate leaders, revenues and employee counts; and for all, media mentions and reach. The result is a collection of women who are fighting the status quo. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman figures on the 36th position on the list, while the chairperson of Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is on the 54th position.

The other three also came from the business segment, with Sail Chair Soma Mondal on 67th position, Biocon Chair Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw on the 77th position, and Nykaa Founder and CEO Falguni Nayar on the 89th position. Forbes said the Union Finance Minister, who came from the political sphere, held roles at the UK-based Agricultural Engineers Association and BBC World Service before her career in politics. She has also served as a member of the National Commission for Women.

According to Forbes, Sebi, of which Puri Buch is the chair, oversees India’s more than $3 trillion stock market ecosystem. Puri Buch consulted for the New Development Bank in Shanghai and worked as a managing director and CEO at ICICI Securities. Forbes said Mondal has more than three decades of experience in the metals industry. After graduating from college with a degree in electrical engineering, she joined the state-run National Aluminium Co. Mazumdar-Shaw, one of India’s richest self-made women, founded India’s largest listed biopharmaceutical firm by revenue, in 1978.

The firm has successfully forayed into the lucrative US market, according to Forbes. Investment bankerturned-entrepreneur Falguni quit her job to start Nykaa, a retailer of beauty products, in 2012, as Forbes wrote about the former investment banker. Nykaa, which means “one in the spotlight,” currently sells more than 4,500 brands online as well as through more than 100 stores across India.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, two Indian students tragically passed away in the US. The students, who were from Telangana, were at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday when the deaths were confirmed. Shiva Kelligari, 25, and Uthej Kunta, 24, have been confirmed as the deceased. According to a report, they were both master’s students at Missouri’s St. Louis University.

Telangana Minister K.T. Rama Rao, in a tweet, said he has asked his team to assist the grieving families in getting back the mortal remains. “I have already asked my team @KTRoffice to assist the family in getting the mortal remains back asap,” he wrote.

According to news agency PTI, which cited the police statement, the incident happened on Saturday noon when Kunta had gone swimming, but as he failed to emerge, his friend Kelligari jumped into the lake to rescue him but also failed to come back up. Following a distress call at 2:20 p.m., rescue services recovered Kunta’s body two hours after the incident, while Kelligari’s was located later on Sunday, police said. Both were pronounced dead on the scene, police records said.

The manager of the Airbnb where the two were staying said that he had called the emergency services when he overheard calls for assistance.

I called 911 and my daughter also called 911,” he said. “My brother jumped in the water and tried to save him but by the time he got to the kayak, they were already gone,” he was quoted as telling a local channel.

A 20-year-old Indian student was dead in another incident after being hit and dragged by a truck in Canada. According to reports, Kartik Saini was a native of Haryana’s Karnal and arrived in Canada in August of last year to pursue his studies. The bicycle was reportedly hit and dragged by a pickup truck last week at the intersection of Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue in midtown. Saini was declared dead on the spot. The inquiry, according to the Toronto Police, is in progress.

According to a William Ruto aide, a special state police unit assassinated two Indian techies who went missing in Kenya in the middle of July.

Zulfiqar Khan, the former chief operating officer of Balaji Telefilms, and another Indian, Mohamed Zaid Sami Kidwai, vanished more than two months ago after leaving a well-known bar in a wealthy Nairobi neighbourhood. Khan and Kidwai were both in Kenya to join the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) team for President William Ruto’s election campaign.
“Asante sana” (Thank you very much) President Ruto for DISBANDING the DCI Elite unit. This was one unit that was literally used to kidnap, assault, maim, and kill innocent people. They targeted those who supported the election of Ruto as President. “Ruto’s aide Dennis Itumbi stated on Facebook.
“Zaid and Ahmad were just good people who became my friends and, in the process, connected with some in our team,” he added.

In an effort to find the missing people, police authorities had earlier claimed that CCTV footage had been acquired from the scene of the kidnapping. To aid in the investigation, some local detectives were also held.
The jailed cops were instructed to give a dossier containing their investigation into the missing person’s case to a new group of sleuths, the Kenyan media.

“Evidence shows them getting into the cab. Minutes later, a vehicle, the ones used by the ROGUE DCI Unit, blocked the cab. Zaid and Ahmed were dragged into the car. Their cab driver too, “Itumbi said in the post.

The Indian government stated last week that it was in constant communication with the Kenyan administration and was keeping a close check on the situation involving two of its citizens who have been missing in Kesari.
