</excerpt>

Three Indians from Punjab went missing in Iran, prompting a serious diplomatic effort from the Indian Embassy in Tehran. The three missing men, named as Hushanpreet Singh of Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur, went missing on May 1 soon after landing at the Iranian capital.

The embassy strongly raised the issue with officials with Iran, calling for the tracing of the individuals at an urgent pace and their return safely. The incident has been a source of worry, with the embassy reassuring families that everything is being done to ensure the safe return of their relatives.

Embassy Steps Up Diplomatic Pressure

Indian Embassy officially confirmed the occurrence in a public social media post on X. In the announcement, the embassy indicated that it has “strongly” raised the matter with the Iranian authorities. It further added that it has sought immediate and coordinated action from Tehran to find the missing citizens.

— India in Iran (@India_in_Iran) May 28, 2025

The embassy has contacted the families of the disappeared men directly in addition to the diplomatic channels. They are kept updated on a regular basis by the officials on any updates and measures taken. This direct interaction is evidence of how seriously the Indian government is treating the issue.

Punjab Men Missing After Arrival in Tehran

Though the official release of the embassy did not mention the names of the missing Indians, news channel NDTV has revealed their identities. The three men are all from the state of Punjab. Hushanpreet Singh belongs to Sangrur, Jaspal Singh is from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh is a resident of Hoshiarpur.

They went missing on May 1, just days after arriving in Tehran, according to the report. There has been no word or confirmed sighting since then. The full disappearance is leaving their families and Indian authorities concerned for their well-being and safety.

Urgent Need for Answers

The silence from the three men and the lack of information about their disappearance have attracted attention on both sides. Though the Iranians have yet to make any official statement, it is now up to their authorities to probe urgently and openly.

With each passing day, the anxiety builds. The more the silence, the more grave are the concerns. India has made its intentions amply clear—its citizens need to be located and returned safely.

This case lends emphasis to prompt international intervention when lives are in question. With the embassy in full play and pressure mounting, the expectation is that Iran will move quickly to resolve the case.

</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has assured that all Indian citizens in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are safe, despite the ongoing conflict in parts of the country.

Speaking at a press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the Indian embassy in Kinshasa is closely monitoring the situation and remains in contact with the Indian community.

“There are about 25,000 Indian citizens in the DRC. In Goma, where conflict has been reported, nearly 1,000 Indians were present, and most have left safely. The embassy has issued multiple advisories and helpline numbers for assistance,” Jaiswal said.

The Indian Embassy in Kinshasa, located 2,500 km from Goma, has been actively engaging with Indian nationals to ensure their safety.

Indian Embassy Issues Advisory for Bukavu and South Kivu

On Thursday, the Indian Embassy issued a travel advisory for Indians in Bukavu, South Kivu, and other affected areas.

The advisory stated:

“We have noted reports of M23 rebel movements towards Bukavu, located 200 km from Goma. Given the risk of escalating violence, we strongly advise all Indian nationals in Bukavu to relocate to safer areas while travel routes remain open. We also recommend against any travel to Bukavu at this time.”

Rwanda-Backed Rebels Advance in DRC

The situation in eastern DRC has escalated as M23 rebels, backed by Rwanda, have seized control of parts of Goma.

According to Al Jazeera, gunfire has been reported across Goma despite the United Nations Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire. The rebels have now set their sights on Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province, and have vowed to continue their offensive towards the national capital.

The conflict in DRC has intensified over the past week, with heavy fighting between government forces and M23 rebels. The violence has led to mass evacuations and growing international concerns over the humanitarian crisis.

Indian Government Urges Caution

The MEA has urged Indian citizens in DRC to remain vigilant and follow embassy advisories for their safety. The Indian government continues to monitor the evolving situation and is prepared to assist its nationals if necessary.

On Tuesday, amid a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Iran launched a missile attack on Israel. In a statement, the IDF reported that all Israeli civilians are currently in bomb shelters as rockets are being fired from Iran towards Israel.

The IDF also noted that Hezbollah is retaliating after their plans to massacre Israeli civilians were exposed, launching a barrage of rockets at innocent civilians. According to the Jerusalem Post, 102 missiles have been fired at Israel, with sirens continuing to sound across the country, as reported by the Times of Israel. The IDF stated that approximately 10 million civilians are being targeted by Iranian projectiles.

Earlier in the day, the IDF initiated limited, localized, and targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence against Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon. These targets, situated in villages near the border, pose an immediate threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel. The IDF noted that these operations are part of a carefully planned strategy developed by the General Staff and the Northern Command, for which IDF soldiers have been training over recent months.

The Israeli Air Force and IDF Artillery are providing support to the ground forces with precise strikes on military targets in the area. The IDF stated that these operations have been approved and are being carried out in accordance with the political echelon’s decision.

Operation “Northern Arrows” will continue based on the situational assessment and in parallel with combat operations in Gaza and other arenas, the IDF added. This escalation follows Israel’s recent decisive strike against Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, which resulted in the killing of Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike. Earlier in July, Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh was also killed in Tehran. Iran had vowed retaliation in both instances.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said that the project was finished at a total expense of NPR 42.60 million as part of the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative. “The Government of India grant under ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ was utilised for the construction of ward building with other facilities for this hospital. The project was taken up as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) under an Agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Nepal. This project was implemented through Dhulikhel Municipality, Kavrepalanchowk.
Dhulikhel Hospital received an Advanced Life Support ambulance as a gift in January 2021. This ambulance plays a crucial role in providing initial treatment and greatly enhances emergency healthcare services. “As close neighbours, India and Nepal share wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the Government of Nepal in upliftment of its people, augmenting infrastructure in the field of priority sectors,” the release from the embassy stated. </excerpt>

The Indian Embassy in the US held a Yoga session in Washington, DC ahead of the 10th International Day of Yoga. The event, which took place on Thursday at The Wharf in Washington, DC, saw a large turnout.

Sripriya Ranganathan, the Deputy Ambassador at the Indian Embassy in the US, highlighted India’s role in promoting yoga globally. “The role that India has played in bringing this centre stage, taking it to the UN and making this a day in which we come together to recognize the power of yoga and to recognize how yoga can add value to our lives and how yoga is very contemporary,” she said.

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated worldwide on June 21 every year since its adoption by the United Nations in 2014.

Ranganathan emphasized the ancient roots of yoga, stating, “It’s an ancient tradition. It’s a wellness tradition that goes back 5000, 6000 years, but it remains so current.”

She also noted the growing appreciation for yoga and its integration into families, communities, and institutions. “There is far more of an appreciation of the value of yoga. It’s become really a part of every family, every community, every institution to start thinking about how yoga can bring value to their lives and to help the members of that community and their families in dealing with the challenges that we face in the world today,” she told ANI.

Ranganathan observed that young people and students are increasingly embracing yoga as a holistic tradition. “I see wherever I go in the US that young people, students, particularly kids in college…are very involved in this. Initially, they come in in terms of seeing this as a physical fitness tradition. But I think they move on very quickly to see what a wholesome and holistic tradition,” she said.

This year, the embassy partnered with various organizations across the US to make the celebrations almost a month-long event. “We just tied up and partnered with so many organizations around the country. This is what we are doing in DC. What our consulates are doing all around the country. We have really been able to reach out so much more and make this almost a month-long celebration. It’s not just the day, but it’s the entire month in which we are bringing yoga centre stage in terms of our outreach to the community,” Ranganathan added.

One participant, Michael, expressed his excitement about the 10th International Day of Yoga and the community aspect of the celebration. “I think yoga really signifies bringing your body and mind at peace with the world around you. And as we heard earlier today, I think that that is something that is most needed today. And so again, happy to be here to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga. </excerpt>

The Delhi High Court has allowed Upma Chandra, wife of Ajay Chandra who is accused in Unitech’s money laundering case, to travel to the United States for 17 days after suspending a Look Out Circular (LOC) against her. Chandra sought suspension of her LOC to attend her son’s graduation ceremony in the US. Sanjay Chandra, her brother-in-law, is also implicated in the same case.

On Monday, Justice Subramonium Prasad permitted Upma Chandra to travel to the US from May 21 to June 6, 2024, following the suspension of the LOC against her. The High Court’s order, uploaded today, specifies that the suspension of the LOC will last for 17 days to allow her to attend her son’s graduation at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. She is required to deposit an FDR of Rs 50 lakh and the original title deed of her father’s residential property.

Upma Chandra had applied for the LOC suspension to enable her to travel to the US from May 21 to June 6, 2024. An LOC had been issued against her in 2021. Her husband and brother-in-law have been in custody since 2018 due to their involvement in the money laundering case.

The High Court noted that before the LOC was issued, the Special CBI Court had permitted Chandra to travel abroad multiple times. Senior advocate Mohit Mathur, representing Chandra, mentioned that she resides in Delhi with her 81-year-old mother-in-law and has always cooperated with the Investigating Authority. Her father also lives in Delhi. Mathur argued that Chandra has strong societal ties and there is no risk of her not returning to India.

The Special Counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed her application, noting that her husband and brother-in-law are involved in about 76 FIRs, with the proceeds of crime amounting to Rs 7,612 crore, of which properties worth Rs 1,257.55 crore have been attached. The ED also claimed that Chandra had influenced witnesses and had been involved in the destruction of evidence, citing notes found during a search and a statement from her mother-in-law.

After considering the submissions, the court granted permission, stating, “This Court is inclined to suspend the LOC opened against the Petitioner for a period of 17 days, i.e., from May 21, 2024, to June 6, 2024, and permit the Petitioner to travel to the United States of America (USA) to attend the graduation ceremony of her son at Cornell University, Ithica, New York, USA.”

The High Court set several conditions, including that Chandra must mark her attendance upon arrival at the Indian Embassy in New York and provide her contact numbers, keeping at least one operational at all times except when on board the aircraft. Additionally, she must deposit her father’s and brother’s passports with the Registrar, file a self-attested copy of her passport and visa with the court upon her return, and inform the court within 24 hours of her return to India.

Prior to the Diwali festival for the Indian diaspora, the renowned Dhoad Band of Rahis Bharti from Rajasthan has been invited by the Indian Embassy in Uzbekistan to perform in several locations, including the capital Tashkent.

Rahis Bharti is a renowned musician and artistic director from Rajasthan who is spreading Rajasthani culture all over the world to promote India. Along with assisting hundreds of Rajasthani folk musicians and dancers, he is a saviour of folk music and dance.

“It has been my effort to highlight the culture of different states of India on the occasion of Indian festivals which are celebrated in Uzbekistan by the members of the Indian diaspora. This year, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, we are very happy to present the internationally acclaimed Dhoad group from Rajasthan, led by versatile artist Rahis Bharti, who has presented hundreds of programmes of Dhoad in Europe and America,” Manish Prabhat, Indian ambassador to Uzbekistan said.

The Dhoad band has also been asked to join the Indian community in Uzbekistan in celebrating Diwali. The cultural events are being planned as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava, a government-sponsored campaign to honour and remember India’s 75th anniversary of independence as well as the illustrious past of its people, culture, and accomplishments.

“I hope every Indian and our Uzbek friends would love to see Dhoad concerts being held this time in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and other cities. Happy Diwali to all!,” Manish Prabhat, Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan said.
Bharti said, “It will be the first time the Rajasthani group will be touring and performing in Bukhara, Samarqand, and Tashkent. The Dhoad group will be spreading Rajasthani folk music and culture in these cities of Uzbekistan.”

On October 20, the Medical Institute of Bukhara will host a Dhoad Band performance. On October 21, the Medical Institute of Samarkand will host a Dhoad Band performance. On October 22, the Intercontinental hotel in Tashkent will host a Dhoad Band performance. On October 23, the Indian community in Uzbekistan will celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, by performing Rajasthani folk music.

The Dhoad Band, from Rajasthan, contributes towards creating friendly links between India and other nations. He is preserving folk music and dances that are in danger of going extinct and giving opportunities to hundreds of Rajasthani folk artists so they can continue to perform and create folk music and dance.

“Rajasthani folk music is worldwide and has empowered nearly 700 local artists in the last 22 years by providing an international platform. Bharti has performed in more than 1500 concerts and shows in over 110 countries,” Rahis Bharti said.

Dhoad will perform in 110 countries and spread Indian folk music. The Rahis Bharti with Dhoad are the only band from Rajasthan that has been spreading Rajasthani music and dance for 22 years.
