</excerpt>

India’s armed forces have raised serious concerns about China’s growing influence over Pakistan’s defence system, stating that 81% of Pakistan’s military equipment now comes from China. New Delhi has accused Beijing of employing its close friend as a “live lab” where it experiments and perfects its military technology in actual war theatres, having profound implications for the region’s security.

Lieutenant General Rahul R Singh, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Capability Development and Sustenance), revealed the details while offering key operational insights following India’s military response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

India’s Response to Pahalgam Attack: Operation Sindoor

Tensions between India and Pakistan grew worse after a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 individuals. India launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted military attack on nine terrorist-associated facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“There are a few takeaways from Operation Sindoor. The leadership’s strategic messaging was clear. There is no space for soaking up the pain like we did a couple of years ago,” Lt Gen Singh stated.

#WATCH | Delhi: At the event ‘New Age Military Technologies’ organised by FICCI, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Capability Development & Sustenance), Lt Gen Rahul R Singh says, “Air defence and how it panned out during the entire operation was important… This time, our population… pic.twitter.com/uF2uXo7yJm

— ANI (@ANI) July 4, 2025

He further said, “The target planning and selection was done based on a lot of intelligence that was gathered with the use of technology as well as the use of human intelligence. So a total of 21 targets were finalised, out of which nine targets we felt would be wise to engage. The leadership made the decision to target these nine locations only on the last day or in the final hour.”

China-Pakistan Military Nexus Raises Red Flags

Lt Gen Singh described how China’s increasingly intense defence cooperation with Pakistan extends well beyond the conventional arms sales. “We had one boundary and two enemies, in fact, three. Pakistan was at the front. China was giving us all forms of help,” he said.

He disclosed, “81 per cent of the military equipment with Pakistan is Chinese. China can test its weapons against other weapons, so it’s like a live laboratory at their disposal.”

He also pointed to Turkey’s contribution towards backing Pakistan and the intelligence gain offered by Beijing. “While DGMO-level talks were ongoing, Pakistan had the real-time updates of our key vectors from China. We require a strong air defence system,” he emphasised.

Chinese Arms Sales to Pakistan: $8.2 Billion Since 2015

China has sold $8.2 billion in arms to Pakistan since 2015, as per the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). From 2020 to 2024, China emerged as the world’s fourth-largest exporter of arms, with 63% of its exports destined for Pakistan, its biggest customer.

The majority of Pakistan’s fighter jets are Chinese, comprising the JF-17 Thunder, jointly developed with China, and J-10C multirole fighters. Pakistan is also reportedly to induct 40 Shenyang J-35 fifth-generation stealth fighters, joining a small number of countries that possess stealth capabilities.

</excerpt>

In a rare and powerful move, the Indian Army has released a special booklet featuring photographs from Operation Sindoor, shedding light on the intense coordination among the top military brass during the May 7 retaliatory strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Two fresh photographs in the booklet depict the collective presence of Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral DK Tripathi, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh within the military’s ‘Operations Room.’ An Army senior officer is also present among them, all keeping a tab on live inputs as the operation was being carried out.

Operation Sindoor Launched at 1:05 AM with Precision Strikes

One of the photos, taken at 1:05 am, shows General Dwivedi and the top officer closely studying a screen. They were analyzing drone video feeds, satellite images, and taking real-time data feeds as Indian fighter planes, SCALP cruise missiles, and drones bombed nine high-value terror targets along the border, sources said.

The attacks were not only rapid but also ruinous in effect. More than 140 terrorists were said to have been killed in the precision-guided strike, a major setback for the terror infrastructure based across the Line of Control.

A Symbol of Inter-Services Coordination

These photographs perform a two-way function: to record a historic military action and to deliver an unmistakable message regarding the smooth coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force in the defense of the country. Having all three chiefs at one time symbolizes India’s united military reaction at its readiness to execute when provoked.

While the government has been strategic in its vagueness about much of the operational nitty-gritty, publication of these photographs of Operation Sindoor is an instant of transparency and pride, highlighting not just operational preparedness but also national determination.

Golden Temple Priest Refutes Army’s Claim of Air Defence Gun Installation

<excerpt>Golden Temple head granthi Giani Raghbir Singh has strongly refuted claims by top army generals that the shrine authorities allowed the deployment of air defence guns during Operation Sindoor, sparking a row over military communication and religious sanctity.
</excerpt>

In a major turnaround, Golden Temple head granthi Giani Raghbir Singh has categorically rejected granting permission to the Indian Army for placing air defence guns in the shrine complex during Operation Sindoor. This denial follows a day after top army officials said that such an agreement had been attained to respond to missile and drone attacks from Pakistan.

Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan D’Cunha, in an interview with ANI, asserted that the army was “given unprecedented cooperation” by the Golden Temple authorities. “It was very nice that the head granthi of the Golden Temple allowed us to deploy our guns,” he remarked. He was making a statement after Major General Kartik C Seshadri remarked that Pakistani troops had attempted to attack the Golden Temple with drones and missiles, and India’s air defence had intercepted them.

But Giani Raghbir Singh has brushed aside these allegations as “propaganda.” Talking to the media, he made it clear, “I was not contacted by any army officer. There was no communication on any gun deployment, nor did any such incident occur at Sri Darbar Sahib.” He further said that he was on leave in the United States from April 24 to May 14, during which the reported clashes happened.

SGPC and Other Clergy Reinforce Denial

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) supported the stand of the head granthi. In a statement, acting head granthi Giani Amarjit Singh, who was officiating in Raghbir Singh’s absence, stated that the temple administration followed only district administration instructions during the blackout. “Lights were switched off as advised, except where the maryada is observed,” he added. He denied point-blank granting any permission for the deployment of the army.

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami also rejected the army’s assertion. “No army officer approached me, and no air defence gun was installed at the shrine,” he said. He added that the sanctity of Sri Harmandar Sahib was never violated and said, “If any such incident had taken place, the sangat would have observed it.”

Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj also expressed the same feeling. “What was said (by the generals) appears not to have occurred,” he declared.

Call for Investigation and Transparency

Giani Raghbir Singh has urged the SGPC to investigate the army’s claims. “The SGPC should probe the army’s claims and take departmental action if any SGPC member is found involved in this matter,” he said. While acknowledging the armed forces’ role in national security, Singh warned against misusing the sanctity of religious institutions for narrative-building.

This event has now ignited a controversy surrounding transparency in civil-military interactions and the delicate relationship between religious bodies and state activities.

</excerpt>

The Indian Army firmly denied media reports that claimed DGMO-level talks were held between India and Pakistan on Sunday. It clarified that no such meeting took place that day. The Army also dismissed reports that the ceasefire agreement would expire on May 18. “No DGMO talks are scheduled today,” an Army spokesperson stated. “The ceasefire understanding from May 12 does not have an expiry date.”

May 12 Talks Brought Ceasefire Agreement

On May 12, India and Pakistan’s Directors General of Military Operations held an important phone call. They agreed to stop firing and reduce tensions along the Line of Control (LoC). Both sides promised to avoid aggressive actions in border areas. They also committed to reducing troop presence in forward positions.

Pakistan Initiated the Peace Proposal

Initially, the talks were expected to take place around noon. However, they happened later that evening. Pakistan’s DGMO contacted India’s DGMO, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, and proposed a ceasefire. India agreed to the proposal. Lt Gen Ghai later confirmed this in a joint press conference held on May 11.

Operation Sindoor Followed a Deadly Attack

The peace efforts came shortly after India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. The Army targeted nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. This operation responded to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people. The Army acted swiftly to eliminate threats and send a strong warning.

</excerpt>

BEL Indigenous Counter-Drone System has demonstrated its battlefield prowess and strategic significance in the face of increasing aerial threats from Pakistan. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, not only inked a big contract with the Indian Army for its Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDDIS) but also demonstrated the battle-proven capability of its Akashteer air defence system.

These initiatives represent a significant step in India’s Make in India defence goals and air security complex.

BEL Signs Agreement with Army for IDDIS

BEL signed a significant agreement with the Indian Army’s Air Defence on Friday for the induction of the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System. Jointly developed by BEL and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the system identifies, traces, and neutralizes enemy drones.

This contract contributes to BEL’s expanding defence portfolio. BEL has obtained additional orders worth ₹572 crore since April 7. They include systems such as IDDIS, Software Defined Radios (SDR), Data Communication Units (DCU) for attack guns, AI-based naval solutions, simulators, jammers, and spares.

Akashteer Neutralises Pakistan Drone Attacks

Meanwhile, BEL’s homegrown air defence system Akashteer has made incredible performance in the recent India–Pakistan conflict. After India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7 when Indian forces attacked nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, Pakistan retaliated with drone and missile strikes.

Akashteer intercepted and neutralized threats with high accuracy. The system shot down drones, missiles, micro UAVs, and loitering munitions before they could harm anyone. It contributed to zero casualties and low material losses.

Beyond Expectations: A Game-Changer

BEL verified Akashteer’s field success on Wednesday. The system operated beyond user expectations and offered flawless air defence. Ground weapons systems, coupled with Akashteer, made the sky a hostile place for Pakistan’s air intrusions.

The system enables Indian Army Air Defence (AD) formations to see a common air picture in real time. It provides the lowest operating levels access to it, enhancing situational awareness and reaction time.

Designed Under a ₹1,982 Cr Contract

BEL built Akashteer on a ₹1,982 crore deal inked in March 2023. The system unifies surveillance assets, radar, and command systems into an immediate battlefield network. It tracks low-level airspace in battle zones and manages AD weapons efficiently.

With IDDIS being deployed and Akashteer battle-proven, BEL’s domestic systems are altering India’s defence posture.

Indian Army’s Follow-Up to Sindoor Targets LeT Terrorists

<excerpt>Indian Army launches Operation Keller in Kashmir, eliminating 3 LeT terrorists days after Operation Sindoor’s cross-border strikes.
</excerpt>

The Indian Army killed three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the thick forest area of Keller, Shopian district of Kashmir, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. The operation, code-named ‘Operation Keller’, was initiated after accurate intelligence inputs from a Rashtriya Rifles unit regarding terrorists in the Shoekal Keller area.

Launch of Operation Keller

According to an official Army statement posted on X, “OPERATION KELLER. On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists. Operation is in progress.”

The encounter is said to have begun in the neighboring Kulgam district and spilt over into Shopian, where the terrorists were ultimately brought down in a fierce gunbattle.

Identities and Activities of the Slain Terrorists

Here are five things we know about the terrorists eliminated in Operation Keller:

Security forces recognized the killed terrorists as Shahid Kuttay, Adnan Shafi Dar and Haris Nazir all being associated with Pakistan-sponsored Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Shahid Kuttay, a resident of Chotipora Heerpora of Shopian and son of Mohammad Yousuf Kuttay, had enrolled with LeT on March 8, 2023.

He had participated in several terrorist activities, one of which was a firing at the Danish Resort on April 8, 2024, in which two German tourists were injured.

He was also accused of the murder of a BJP sarpanch in Heerpora on May 18, 2024, and is suspected to have murdered a Territorial Army personnel in Behibagh, Kulgam, on February 3, 2025.

Adnan Shafi Dar, from Wanduna Melhora, Shopian, became a member of LeT in October 2024. He was involved in the murder of a non-local worker in Wachi, Shopian, the same month he became a member.

Haris Nazir, allegedly from Pulwama, was also involved in the April 2024 Danish Resort attack, though his complete background is under investigation.

Three AK-47 rifles and other weapons and ammunition were recovered from the scene, verifying the group’s readiness for further terror activity in the area.

Operation Keller Follows Sindoor in Counter-Terror Drive

The meeting occurred in the backdrop of escalating cross-border tensions, after India launched its aggressive cross-border counter-terrorist operation ‘Operation Sindoor‘ on May 7, when nine terror infrastructure points in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were attacked.

That operation was a response to the nefarious killing of 26 civilians, including tourists, in the Baisaran meadow in the vicinity of Pahalgam on April 22.

Indian intelligence holds three Pakistan-based terrorists Adil Hussain Thoker, Ali Bhai and Hashim Musa responsible for that April 22 attack whose posters marked “Terror-Free Kashmir” have since been pasted all over Shopian.

The authorities have put a reward of Rs 20 lakh for anything concrete about their location.

Operation Keller is a continuation of India’s intensified counterterror offensive in the Valley, underlining its zero-tolerance towards cross-border terrorism.

What This Reveals About India’s Counter-Terror Policy

Operation Keller also comes against the backdrop of a fresh ceasefire instability between India and Pakistan. The past few weeks have seen cross-Line of Control (LoC) shelling and drone intrusions, leading India to increase its security along the LoC.

Indian Army’s quick operations Sindoor followed by Keller speak volumes about the changing strategy to strike at actionable intelligence and destroy threats pre-emptively.

These high-impact operations reflect a shift in India’s security calculus, aimed at proactive and preemptive neutralisation of terror threats, both within Jammu and Kashmir and across the LoC.

Following Operation Sindoor, Keller’s success reinforces New Delhi’s message that those who perpetuate terror will be tracked and eliminated within or beyond borders.

</excerpt>

The Indian Army confirmed that the night passed “largely peacefully” across Jammu and Kashmir and along the International Border. This calm came just two days after India and Pakistan agreed to stop military actions.

Intense Firing Before Peace

For four straight days, Indian and Pakistani forces exchanged heavy fire. This followed a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. That attack had killed 26 civilians and raised tensions sharply.

Ceasefire Brings First Peaceful Night. On Saturday evening, both countries agreed to a ceasefire. The decision covered land, air, and sea. Army sources told NDTV, “The night emained largely peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir and other areas along the International Border. No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days.”

Drone Activity Breaks Trust

Despite the agreement, drones appeared shortly after the ceasefire. Security forces spotted and intercepted them in several areas. These included Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Gujarat.

Late Saturday night, India said Pakistan had already violated the ceasefire. Indian forces responded strongly. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “Over the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take very, very serious notice of these violations.”

India Tells Pakistan to Act Responsibly

Misri urged Pakistan to take firm action. He warned that India would not tolerate repeated violations. He added, “The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations along the International Border as well as the Line of Control.”

Operation Sindoor Launched in Response

Earlier, India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. This came after investigators found strong links between the Pahalgam attack and terror groups in Pakistan. Indian forces struck nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in a swift operation.

On Saturday, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh addressed the media and confirmed that Pakistan’s military is moving troops toward forward positions. This move has raised concerns of further escalation between the two countries.

Singh said, “Pakistan Army has been observed to be moving its troops towards forward areas, indicating an offensive intent to further escalation. Indian armed forces remain in a high state of operational readiness, and all hostile actions have been effectively countered and responded proportionately. Indian armed forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, provided the Pakistan side reciprocates.”

Earlier on Saturday, defence officials reported that the Indian Army had intercepted and destroyed Pakistani drones aimed at civilian areas in Punjab. Specifically, Byker YIHA III Kamikaze drones were launched toward Amritsar in the early morning hours.

“Pakistan launched Byker YIHA III Kamikaze drones in Amritsar, Punjab endangering the residential areas of Punjab. The attempt was thwarted by Army Air Defence guns at 5 AM today, destroying the same in the air. The drone was aimed to target civilian areas and innocent civilians,” defence officials said.

Local residents in Barmer, Rajasthan discovered fragments of what appeared to be unidentified projectiles. These findings point to the increasing intensity of cross-border threats.

As tensions continue to rise, Indian forces reportedly carried out retaliatory strikes on four Pakistani airbases early Saturday. Sources told ANI that these operations followed Pakistan’s attacks on 26 Indian locations. Gunfire continues at several points along the Line of Control (LoC).

India’s recent military actions are seen as part of “Operation Sindoor,” where Indian forces struck nine terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir earlier this week. </excerpt>

With growing military tensions between India and Pakistan, India’s cricketing hero Virat Kohli gave a strong expression of solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces. The conflict, which has involved missile attacks, air raid warning, and increased military activity across the Line of Control, as well as in several bordering Indian cities, has resulted in massive security issues, which also affected the IPL 2025, as the tournament was postponed on Friday.

Message to the Armed Forces by Virat Kohli

On Instagram, Kohli wrote, “We stand in solidarity with, and salute our armed forces for fiercely protecting our country in these difficult times. We are forever indebted to our heroes for their unwavering bravery and heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices they and their families make for our great nation.”

IPL 2025 Postponed Amid Security Concerns

The cancellation of IPL 2025, after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was postponed halfway on Thursday, indicates the gravity of the situation. Due to security worries, players were evacuated from the arena as air raid alarms were raised in surrounding areas such as Jammu and Pathankot.

The game, which was to determine if Punjab Kings would be the first team to qualify for the playoffs, was abandoned without any alteration in the IPL points table.

Rohit Sharma Calls for Unity and Caution Against Fake News

The BCCI continues to discuss the situation with government officials. With more than a dozen league games and the knockout rounds still pending, the suspension of the IPL has raised many questions about whether or not the rest of the matches will be rescheduled or played in a neutral venue once the security situation stabilizes.

</excerpt>

In a quick and measured reaction to the recent terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the Indian Army has initiated targeted attacks across the Line of Control (Loc) with Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMS). The attacks, defence sources said on Friday, destroyed several Pakistani military outposts, escalating an already tense border situation.

Why the Retaliation Was Swift and Precise

The Army deployment of ATGMS followed a matter of days after 26 civilians were butchered in one of the worst Kashmir attacks in more than two decades. The airstrikes are being conducted as part of an ongoing operational campaign. The strike included air attacks under Operation Sindoor that bombed terror camps across Pakistan and Pok.

Official sources also attested to the fact that India successfully downed more than 50 drones en route to sensitive military installations at Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur.

What are ATGMs and Why Do They Matter?

Anti-tank guided Missiles are specifically made to blow up heavily armoured vehicles, especially tanks. In contrast to previous systems, these missiles are “guided,” which means that they can target something and course-correct during the air. This greatly enhances accuracy and enables soldiers to attack from a safe distance.

ATGMS can be fired from many different platforms — shoulder firings, tripods, vehicles, or aircraft. Their versatility and accuracy have made them imperative in defensive and offensive military tactics.

How ATGMS Works

ATGMS depend mostly on a shaped charge — a concentrated explosive that can penetrate thick tank armour. Newer versions employ tandem warheads. The initial blast destroys protective systems such as explosive reactive armour (ERA), and the second enters the tank’s core.

A few systems provide a ‘top-attack’ option, attacking a tank’s thinner upper armour. Others are fitted with dual-mode seekers that enhance target tracking, even in sophisticated combat conditions.

Can Tanks Defend Themselves?

Tanks are not completely defenceless against ATGMS. Some employ slat armour or reactive plates that initiate premature detonation of incoming missiles. Advanced defence systems such as Israel’s Trophy are even capable of intercepting ATGMS mid-air. Tanks also employ smokescreens or fire-and-forget options to come out of these engagements alive.

But as India’s retaliation indicates, even the most sophisticated tank defence mechanisms are being tested by the increasing accuracy and range of latest-generation ATGMs.

Global Spread and Future Outlook

ATGMS are currently in operation in more than 130 countries and have become a standard element in such conflicts as the Russia-Ukraine war. India’s recent employment serves to highlight not only the missile’s tactical value but also the evolving nature of combat engagement.

As with the Indian Army indicating its preparedness and capability to counter any provocation, the employment of ATGMS gives a stark message — the country will never shy away from protecting its sovereignty using precise firepower.

</excerpt>

In a major build-up after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, India on Wednesday launched a coordinated military operation called Operation Sindoor at dawn. The Indian Army made public video recordings of the attacks, which were precision missile strikes on terrorist installations deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

‘Justice Is Served’, Says Army

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that Indian forces carried out “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible” attacks. Shortly later, the Army tweeted on X, “Justice is served. Jai Hind!”

This aggressive step was a reaction to the failure of any effective counter-terror initiatives on the part of Pakistan, despite undeniable intelligence indicating an the threat from Pakistan-based terror modules, imminent threat.

Dual Briefing by Women Officers

In a very unusual and strong gesture, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh conducted the press briefing on Operation Sindoor. They said, “In the last 3 decades, Pakistan has systematically developed a terror infrastructure. It is an intricate network of recruitment and indoctrination facilities, training sites for initial and refresher courses, and launchpads for handlers. These camps are in both Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) regions.”

Strategic Message of Deterrence

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted the country’s determination to deter and pre-empt further attacks, asserting, “Our intelligence surveillance of Pakistan-based terrorist modules showed that more attacks against India were in the offing.”

Misri further stated that the strikes were intended to take perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack into custody, as Islamabad displayed “no demonstrable” action towards dismantling terror groups on its territory or under its control.

Pakistan Warns of Retaliation

While so, Pakistan’s foreign ministry retaliated, stating the Indian Air Force attacked Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad from within Indian airspace with standoff weapons. The official communiqué warned, “Pakistan reserves the right to respond appropriately at a time and place of its choosing,” indicating possible escalation.

India’s daring action under Operation Sindoor not only gave a tactical defeat to terrorism but also sent out a clear strategic message—terror will not be left unpunished.

</excerpt>

Early on Wednesday morning, just two weeks since the horrific Pahalgam terror strike, India issued a concerted, multi-faceted military counterattack named ‘Operation Sindoor’. The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force joined forces in a historic joint operation, conducting targeted missile attacks against nine key terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

This operation, code-named Operation Sindoor, is a major milestone since all three wings of India’s defense services have collaborated on such an attack on Pakistan for the first time after the 1971 war.

Operation Sindoor: Coordinated Military Response

The strikes were conducted at 1.44 am, targeting terrorist infrastructure that has long been linked to planning and orchestrating cross-border terror attacks on India. The military operation was executed with extreme accuracy, using state-of-the-art weaponry, such as Kamikaze drones—loitering munitions meant to crash into targets, which carry warheads that strike with deadly accuracy.

The nine locations that were hit in the operation were associated with groups behind some of the major terrorist attacks in India. Among them were the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters at Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) facility at Muridke. While the targeted damage, the Indian Army made it clear that no Pakistani military installations were struck, insisting that “India has shown significant restraint in the choice of targets and the manner of execution.”

Precision Strikes and Political Implications

Operation Sindoor was a reaction to the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 individuals, primarily tourists, were brutally murdered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had promised to seek revenge for the attack, personally tracked the operation throughout the night.

This was a political statement—India had exercised extraordinary restraint in its approach, but the measures taken were a firm declaration against terror perpetrators in India.

The timing of the operation, combined with its careful execution, reflects India’s determination to defend its sovereignty without escalating the situation. The operation follows as well while India continues to escalate its diplomatic efforts to legitimize its actions as a measure of self-defense against cross-border terrorism.

Diplomatic Outreach Post-Strike

Immediately following the strike, India approached world leaders to make sure the world got the logic behind the move. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval informed his counterparts, such as US NSA and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, regarding the operation and its aim.

A fuller briefing on Operation Sindoor has been assured by the Indian government later in the day, representing an initiative to be open while upholding its sovereignty.

India’s firm response, supported by coordinated strategic defense, sends out a strong message to Pakistan and terrorists alike: India shall not be tolerant of cross-border terrorism and shall take all the measures necessary to safeguard its people and borders.

</excerpt>

Terrorists armed with weapons came out of the pine forests in Baisaran meadow, located in South Pahalgam on April 22. They opened fire on innocent civilians. So far, the attack has claimed 26 lives. Since the incident, tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan.

In response, India took strict measures against Pakistan. Officials in New Delhi paused the Indus Waters Treaty. They also suspended all visa services for Pakistani nationals and instructed them to leave India. Moreover, India recently banned all Pakistani imports and restricted Pakistani-flagged ships from entering Indian ports.

India Plans to Block Terror Funding

The Modi government has prepared more actions to stop the funding of terrorism in Pakistan. Reports say India may approach global agencies like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The aim is to reduce the financial support reaching Pakistan. Still, a major question remains — will India respond with a military operation?

Indian Navy Flexes Muscle in Arabian Sea

Over the weekend, the Indian Navy issued a navigation warning. It asked commercial ships to be cautious due to ongoing naval drills in the Arabian Sea. At the same time, the Navy posted videos of its warships conducting anti-ship missile tests. These videos showed BrahMos missiles being fired from Kolkata-class destroyers, as well as Nilgiri and Krivak-class frigates.

In a strong message on X, the Navy said, “Indian Navy Ships undertook successful multiple anti-ship firings to revalidate and demonstrate readiness of platforms, systems, and crew for long-range precision offensive strike. Indian Navy stands combat-ready, credible, and future-ready in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests Anytime Anywhere Anyhow.”

Air Force Shows Strength in Uttar Pradesh

Alongside the Navy drills, the Indian Air Force carried out a night-time exercise on the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh. The drill took place near Piru village under Jalalabad Police Station. On Friday night, fighter jets including Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, Mirage-2000, and M-32 performed landings and combat maneuvers on a 3.5-kilometre airstrip.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi told that “Multiple fighter jets carried out successful sorties as part of a night operational exercise. The drill involved precision landings, coordinated take-offs, and tactical operations by jets such as Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, Mirage-2000, and M-32.”

Blackout Rehearsal at Punjab Cantonment

Meanwhile, the Indian Army conducted a 30-minute blackout drill at Ferozepur Cantonment in Punjab on Sunday, May 4. The exercise began at 9 pm and ended around 9:30 pm. It aimed to test readiness for blackout conditions during potential threats.

Before the drill, authorities used loudspeakers to inform residents about the practice. This blackout drill reminded many of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. During that time, turning off lights was a common method to avoid detection by enemy aircraft.

Modi Meets Military Chiefs for Strategic Planning

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Air Force Chief AP Singh. The meeting focused on reviewing the IAF’s preparedness in case of a military response. Earlier that day, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi had also updated Modi on the situation in the northern Arabian Sea.

These meetings followed a major discussion five days earlier. During that session, Modi met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

During the meeting, Modi reportedly said, “They have complete operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets, and timing of our response.” Sources confirmed that Modi expressed full confidence in the armed forces’ abilities.

</excerpt>

The Indian Army has deployed a fresh batch of Russian-made Igla-S missiles worth over ₹250 crore to bolster air defence capabilities. This move follows the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed 26 civilian lives, intensifying tensions with Pakistan.

Missiles Sent to Frontline Positions

The newly acquired Igla-S systems have been dispatched to forward units near the western border, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC). These portable missile systems are designed to quickly detect and neutralize low-flying enemy threats, such as drones, helicopters, and aircraft, providing immediate protection for troops and vital infrastructure.

How the Igla-S Works

The Igla-S is a shoulder-launched, man-portable surface-to-air missile that uses infrared homing to track heat signatures. With a strike range of up to 6 km and a maximum altitude of 3.5 km, it is capable of engaging small, fast-moving targets even in difficult terrain. Once fired, the missile locks onto the target’s engine heat and destroys it in flight. Compared to older Igla variants, the Igla-S features better seeker accuracy and enhanced resistance to countermeasures.

Part of the VSHORADS Family

The Igla-S belongs to the Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) category. Its compact size and lightweight design make it ideal for mobile operations in high-risk zones. These features enable rapid deployment and flexibility, especially in remote or mountainous regions.

Emergency Powers Fast-Tracked the Deal

The Indian Army acquired these missiles under emergency procurement powers, which allow each branch of the military to make purchases of up to ₹300 crore without lengthy approval procedures. This framework enables quick responses to sudden national security threats.

Air Force Also Strengthens Its Defences

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has followed suit by signing a similar deal for additional Igla-S systems. These units will bolster low-altitude defence at forward airbases, especially in regions exposed to drone and helicopter attacks. Together, the Army and Air Force aim to establish a robust, multi-layered air defence structure.

More Launchers, Next-Gen Systems in Pipeline

To further strengthen defences, the Army has issued a tender for 48 additional launchers and about 90 more Igla-S missiles under fast-track procedures. It is also considering next-generation VSHORADS using laser beam-riding technology. These advanced systems are expected to offer improved accuracy and greater resistance to electronic jamming.

Tackling Drone Threats

To complement the Igla-S, the Army has deployed the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDD&IS). This indigenous technology can detect, jam, spoof, and destroy drones from more than 8 km away. Some variants include laser weapons that can burn down drones. Recently, an Army unit shot down a Pakistani drone near the 16 Corps zone in Jammu using these systems.

Future Plans: Directed Energy Weapons and Radar Upgrades

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing high-powered directed energy weapons to target larger unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, and enemy aircraft. Simultaneously, the Army is exploring low-level, mobile radar systems to detect threats flying below the range of conventional radar coverage.

Strategic Impact on Pakistan Border

The deployment of Igla-S systems significantly boosts India’s defence posture along the Pakistan border. These systems allow frontline troops to react swiftly to aerial intrusions and drone-based attacks. In an environment of growing cross-border tensions and emerging air threats, this upgrade marks a vital step in enhancing India’s air defence readiness.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a decisive security meeting on Tuesday, gave the armed forces complete operational freedom to decide the mode, targets, and timing of India’s retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 individuals, primarily tourists.

News agency PTI quoted officials saying that during a high-level security meeting, PM Modi reaffirmed, “It is our national resolve to deliver a crushing blow to terrorism.”Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a key security meeting on Tuesday that the armed forces have full operational freedom to determine the mode, targets, and timing of India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Modi expressed full trust and confidence in the professionalism of the armed forces. “They have complete operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets and timing of our response,” a source quoted Modi as saying, according to PTI.

High-Level Security Meeting Convened by PM Modi

PM Modi on Tuesday presided over a meeting with India’s senior defence officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the chiefs of the three armed forces.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan was also present at the meeting, conducted as India was evaluating its options for a response after the Pahalgam terror attack.

PM Modi says ‘Punishment Would Be Beyond Their Imagination’

Earlier, in response to the attack, PM Modi pledged to identify the terrorists involved and their backers, directly mentioning Pakistan, which has a track record of funding terrorism against India. He promised to bring them to justice, saying that the punishment would be “beyond their imagination.”

Precedents and Current Measures

Earlier, the Modi government had carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan after the 2016 Uri attack on Indian army personnel, and the Balakot airstrike following the Pulwama attack on CRPF officials.

In reaction to the Pahalgam attack, India has taken various steps against Pakistan, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with the country.

Earlier during the day, Union home secretary Govind Mohan had organized a meeting of top brass from the three paramilitary forces along with top officers from two other security agencies. What was on the agenda for the meeting has not been officially made public.

</excerpt>

Pakistan cricket legend Shahid Afridi stoked a new controversy after blaming the Indian Army responsible for the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including a majority of tourists. He termed the Indian security forces as “useless” and challenged India to produce evidence before pointing fingers at Pakistan.

His provocative remarks, during a TV appearance, escalated tensions further. India retaliated with stringent diplomatic steps, such as suspending visas and shutting down the Attari-Wagah checkpost.

Cricketing ties also face a possible complete freeze, with former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly backing a total boycott of Pakistan. Shahid Afridi’s remarks, paired with India’s sharp response, could mark another deep low in India-Pakistan relations.

Shahid Afridi Blames Indian Army, Mocks Indian Media

Shahid Afridi openly criticized the Indian Army on Pakistani news channel Samaa TV. He said, “Even if a cracker bursts in India, they blame it on Pakistan.” He challenged the capabilities of the Army, citing, “You have an army of 8 lakhs in Kashmir, and yet this occurred. This implies that you are useless, failing to ensure security for people.”

He also mocked Indian television news for its hasty coverage. “One hour into the attack, their media was Bollywood,” he declared. Shahid Afridi further explained that he himself was amused at their style of reporting, their credibility and the quality of education.

He further targeted former Pakistani cricketers, accusing them of making unwarranted Pakistan bashing.

India acted quickly following the fatal attack in Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam. The government suspended the Indus Water Treaty, a centuries-old water-sharing pact with Pakistan. The authorities also closed the Attari-Wagah checkpost and revoked all visas granted to Pakistani citizens. These actions indicated a dramatic diplomatic freeze.

Cricketing Ties Under Threat

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering even tougher measures. Discussions are on to boycott Pakistan in all international cricket completely.
India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since more than a decade.

But they frequently face each other during ICC and Asian tournaments. Now, even those matches may come to an end.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was a firm advocate of the boycott. “100 per cent, this should be done. Strict action is necessary. Terrorism cannot be tolerated,” Ganguly stated on Friday.

Sporting Diplomacy Under Siege

Shahid Afridi’s outburst and India’s response show how terrorism now threatens to rip apart even the last few threads of sporting diplomacy. Cricket has often served as a soft bridge between India and Pakistan.

Yet, after the Pahalgam tragedy and Afridi’s remarks, that bridge looks on the verge of collapse. The next few weeks could decide whether cricketing ties survive or whether politics finally smashes that bond too.

Learn more.
</excerpt>

On Sunday, the Defence Ministry issued a statement. It clarified that the WhatsApp messages circulating were false. The messages urged individuals to donate to a specific bank account. This was supposedly to help the government upgrade the armed forces. However, the ministry confirmed these claims were untrue.

Fake WhatsApp Message Claims Akshay Kumar’s Suggestion to Modi

The message further stated that the suggestion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was made by Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.

In accordance with an official statement by the Ministry of Defence, account details in the said message are wrong and asked people not to fall victims to such scams.

A fact check by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) also said the message was fake. “A WhatsApp message is going around claiming that the government has opened a bank account for the modernisation of the Indian Army. This claim is MISLEADING. The bank account mentioned in the message is NOT meant for modernisation of the Indian Army or for purchase of weapons,” the PIB said.

Misleading Information in the Fake Message

A portion of the fake message reads, “Another good decision by Modi Govt as suggested by Super Star Akshay Kumar. Only one rupee per day, that too for Indian army. In yesterday’s cabinet meeting, the Modi government opened a bank account for the modernization of the Indian Army and for soldiers who are injured or martyred in the war zone. In which every Indian can contribute any amount as per his/her own choice. It starts from Rs.1 and is unlimited. This money will also be used to purchase weapons for the army and paramilitary forces.”

The ministry added that the government has launched a number of welfare schemes for soldiers who were killed or disabled in active combat operations.

Government’s Established Welfare Funds for Soldiers

In 2020, the Government established the Armed Forces Battle Casualty Welfare Fund (AFBCWF). This fund provides immediate financial relief to the families of soldiers, sailors, and airmen who sacrifice their lives or suffer grievous injuries in active military operations.

The Indian Army keeps the fund in trust on behalf of the Defence Ministry’s Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare. Donation can be done directly into the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund account.

</excerpt>

Pakistan Army soldiers fired shots at several locations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. This move appeared to violate the existing ceasefire agreement. In response, the Indian Army quickly and effectively retaliated.

“There were incidents of small arms firing at some places on the Line of Control initiated by Pakistan,” a source told PTI. The source added, “The firing was effectively responded to.” Further updates are still awaited.

Army Chief to Review Security in Kashmir

The incident happened just before Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi’s planned visit to Srinagar and Udhampur. During his visit on Friday, he is expected to meet top Army officers and security officials. He will assess the current security conditions in the Kashmir Valley. He will also review Pakistan’s recent ceasefire violations along the LoC.

This firing comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, has further strained relations.

India’s Tough Response to Pahalgam Attack

After the deadly Pahalgam attack, India took several strong actions against Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on Wednesday. Home Minister Amit Shah also attended. During the meeting, India decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. This decision will stay until Pakistan ends its support for cross-border terrorism.

Moreover, India shut down the Integrated Check Post at Attari.

Diplomatic and Visa Actions Against Pakistan

India also asked multiple Pakistani diplomats to leave the country. These officials from Pakistan’s High Commission were declared persona non grata. They have one week to exit India. In addition, India canceled all visas granted under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme. Pakistani nationals currently in India have 48 hours to leave.

Pakistan Reacts to Treaty Suspension

Pakistan strongly opposed India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. It warned that blocking or diverting water flows meant for Pakistan would be seen as an “act of war.”

Since 1960, the World Bank has facilitated the Indus Waters Treaty. It manages how India and Pakistan share the Indus river system. This includes the main Indus river and its tributaries. The eastern rivers—Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej—mostly belong to India. The western rivers—Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab—mainly serve Pakistan. The Kabul river, although part of the system, does not flow through India.

These rivers are crucial for water access in both countries.

India may consider a time-sensitive military response amid leadership transitions in Northern Command.
</excerpt>

In one of the most brutal terrorist strikes in Jammu and Kashmir in recent memory, heavily armed militants killed at least 26 people—mostly Hindu tourists—at Pahalgam’s scenic Baisaran Valley on April 22. Survivor accounts say the attackers emerged from nearby forests, opened fire indiscriminately, and asked victims about their religious identity before pulling the trigger. One Muslim local also died in the assault.

The Resistance Force (TRF), believed to be a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot backed by Pakistan, claimed responsibility. The attack is being described as the worst civilian massacre in the region in over two decades.

A Chilling Echo of Past Attacks

This attack draws stark parallels with previous terror incidents in Uri (2016) and Pulwama (2019), where India’s military responded swiftly. Back then, Indian forces carried out surgical strikes and air raids across the LoC, signaling a shift in India’s counter-terror doctrine.

Lt Gen DS Hooda, who led the 2016 surgical strikes, had two months remaining in his tenure—time he used to assess, plan, and execute retaliation. In contrast, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, current Northern Command chief, retires on April 30, just a week after the Pahalgam tragedy. The question now is whether a counterstrike can be launched under his command or left to his successor, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma.

Why Pahalgam Was Targeted

Pahalgam isn’t just a tourist destination—it is the base for the Amarnath Yatra, one of Hinduism’s holiest pilgrimages. Attacking this region carries symbolic, religious, and economic significance. Targeting pilgrims aims to fuel communal tensions and disrupt Kashmir’s fragile tourism economy.

Security experts say the area’s forested terrain and proximity to the LoC make it ideal for terrorist infiltration. Several unmonitored passes in the Pir Panjal range allow militants to cross over easily. Despite advanced surveillance, geography continues to be a key vulnerability.

Sectarian Undercurrents and Pakistan’s Narrative

What makes this attack more disturbing is its sectarian dimension. Eyewitnesses say gunmen asked male victims about their faith before shooting. The massacre occurred just six days after Pakistan Army Chief Gen Asim Munir made a provocative speech, reinforcing the divisive two-nation theory.

“Our forefathers thought we were different from Hindus in every possible aspect of life… We are two nations, we are not one nation,” Munir had said. These remarks are more than rhetoric—they validate the ideological motivations of terror groups like TRF.

Lt Gen Pratik Sharma: Inheriting a Crisis

Lt Gen Sharma, slated to take charge on April 30, may find himself responding to India’s latest national security crisis. He previously commanded the 80 Infantry Brigade and 25 Infantry Division in J&K and served as DG Military Operations. His experience positions him well for a swift and strategic retaliation, if planned post-transition.

However, this doesn’t diminish the role of Lt Gen Kumar, a decorated officer and former Vice Chief of Army Staff. But the timing of the transition raises concerns about operational continuity.

An Attack on the Idea of India

The Pahalgam attack wasn’t just a terror incident—it was an ideological strike. By selectively killing based on religion, the terrorists challenged India’s foundational values of secularism and peaceful coexistence.

As the country mourns, the Modi government is expected to announce its course of action. Whether that involves military strikes or diplomatic escalation, one thing is clear: India’s response must match the gravity of this outrage.

Subedar Kuldeep Chand, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) from the 9 Punjab Regiment, tragically lost his life on Friday night, 11 April 2025, while leading a counter-infiltration operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keri-Battal area of Sunderbani. His heroic sacrifice occurred during a fierce gunfight with terrorists attempting to infiltrate Indian territory.

Subedar Chand’s actions demonstrated remarkable bravery and leadership under extreme conditions. During the operation, he took charge of his team, directing them strategically to counter the infiltration attempt. His leadership was pivotal in thwarting the terrorists’ plans, preventing further threats to the region. Sadly, he was killed in action, but his role was crucial in the operation’s success.

The Indian Army‘s White Knight Corps paid tribute to Subedar Chand on social media. Their statement read, “General Officer Commanding (GOC), White Knight Corps, and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of braveheart Sub Kuldeep Chand of 9 PUNJAB. He laid down his life while gallantly leading a counter-infiltration operation along the LoC in Keri-Battal on the night of 11 April 2025.” They further emphasized that his bravery and that of his team helped foil the terrorist infiltration. The Corps also expressed solidarity with his bereaved family during this difficult time.

Subedar Kuldeep Chand’s martyrdom occurred amid ongoing military operations in Jammu and Kashmir as Indian forces continue to tackle terrorist activities along the LoC and beyond.

One such operation, ‘Chhatru,’ is taking place in Kishtwar, where two Pakistani terrorists were neutralized. This operation, ongoing for four days, has seen three terrorists eliminated so far.

On Tuesday, security forces launched a large-scale cordon and search operation in Kathua’s Panjtirthi area, following an exchange of fire with terrorists. The Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF all took part in this mission, based on intelligence inputs. The forces established multiple ambushes and surveillance setups, ensuring heightened security in the region. The area remains on high alert, with forces actively pursuing suspects and preventing any further infiltration.

Earlier this year, in the ‘Safiyan’ operation in the Kathua region, four Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel were martyred during a confrontation with terrorists. The operation began on 23 March after locals reported spotting suspected infiltrators in the Sanyal area. In this operation, two terrorists were killed, and significant war-like materials were recovered. The loss of four police officers highlights the ongoing dangers faced by Indian security forces as they work tirelessly to secure the region.

The death of Subedar Kuldeep Chand serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the Indian Army in defending the nation’s borders. His bravery and leadership in the face of danger reflect the unwavering commitment of the Indian Armed Forces. As operations continue across Jammu and Kashmir, the forces remain resolute in their mission, even as they mourn the loss of their courageous comrades.

</excerpt>

India has quickly deployed its military forces and disaster relief teams to help Myanmar following a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that has killed more than 1,000 people. The government initiated Operation Brahma, a massive humanitarian operation, to provide vital assistance, such as relief supplies, a field hospital, and an 80-strong search and rescue team.

India’s Quick Response to the Crisis

Immediately after the quake hit Myanmar on Friday afternoon, India put its Army, Navy, Air Force, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on standby mode for emergency intervention. The first Indian Air Force (IAF) transport aircraft left Hindon airbase by 3 a.m. Saturday morning carrying 15 tonnes of relief materials in the form of food and medicaments. The flight landed in Yangon by 8 a.m. (IST), paving the way for a swift humanitarian intervention.

At 7:30 p.m. IST, a C-130 transport plane brought in the 80-strong NDRF search and rescue team to Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, which was still reeling from destroyed infrastructure. The team, the first foreign rescue team to arrive in the capital, will be deployed in Mandalay on Sunday—one of the worst-hit regions.

Multi-Agency Relief Mission

IAF intended to undertake five sorties on Saturday via C-130J and C-17 military transport aircraft in order to dispatch search and rescue teams with canine squads, rescuers’ gear, and an 118-person military field hospital. Four warships of the Indian Navy are also sailing towards relief materials carrying 50 tonnes of material from Port Blair and Visakhapatnam.

Operation Brahma: India’s Commitment to Regional Assistance

The operation, code-named Operation Brahma, represents India’s commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian assistance. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted India’s commitment to being the first responder during crises. “It is part of our policy to be the first responder. When we say ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or the world is one family, we also want to mean it. We want to prove that by action,” Jaiswal said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself contacted Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, conveying condolences and support on behalf of India. “As a friendly neighbor and close friend, India stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar at this trying time,” Modi posted on social media. He assured that humanitarian aid, disaster relief items, and search & rescue teams were being sent under #OperationBrahma.

Spoke with Senior General H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. Conveyed our deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake.
Mandalay City, with 1.7 million people, was left severely devastated, with numerous buildings brought down to rubble. The absence of the necessary equipment to aid rescue has made India’s specialist rescue teams and high-tech equipment a key component of relief work.

NDRF Deputy Inspector General Mohsen Shahedi informed that the team would become functional in 24 to 48 hours, the golden hour for rescuing trapped survivors. A second standby NDRF team is in reserve in Kolkata and can be deployed if necessary.

Indian Army’s Field Hospital Ready for Deployment

The 118-bed Army field hospital, to go into operations by Sunday, consists of trained medical teams, surgical units, anesthetists, orthopedic surgeons, and X-ray facilities. The contingent deployed from Agra previously participated in Operation Dost during the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake relief efforts.

Brigadier HS Mavi of Military Operations established that there would be six medical officers, two of them women, in the field hospital. The staff is ready to divide into small teams if needed, and other medical teams are in reserve.

First tranche of humanitarian aid from India has reached the Yangon Airport in Myanmar.

The Indian Navy is also in the forefront of relief operations, with four warships carrying relief supplies. Naval Operations Commodore Raghu Nair confirmed that the first ship, with 10 tonnes of relief material, left at 2 a.m. on Saturday, and another at 2 p.m. The ships will arrive at Yangon Port by March 31, when two more warships will resume relief operations.

Earthquake Devastation and Mounting Death Toll

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit northwest of Sagaing City, followed by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock, causing widespread destruction. Myanmar’s ruling military junta confirmed 1,002 fatalities in Mandalay alone, with another 2,400 injured. Ten deaths were also reported in Bangkok, Thailand.

India has developed a large disaster relief capacity since its major contribution to post-2004 Indian Ocean tsunami relief operations. The IAF’s C-130 and C-17 heavy-lift transport aircraft have improved the nation’s capacity to airlift relief supplies, while the Navy’s warships have been instrumental in transporting aid and evacuating civilians.

India had, in September 2023, conducted Operation Sadbhav to help Myanmar in relief from Typhoon Yagi by airlifting 53 tonnes of assistance just hours after receiving Myanmar’s request. Likewise, India started Operation Dost in February 2023 to help Türkiye and Syria with relief from a powerful earthquake, deploying 250 people, expertise, and more than 135 tonnes of relief materials aboard five C-17 aircraft.

Relief Efforts Continued and Plans for Further Support

India has already dispatched its first tranche of aid, comprising:

Blankets, tarpaulins, and tents

Sleeping bags and hygiene kits

Solar lamps and generators

Water purifiers and ready-to-eat food

Essential medicines and medical supplies

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar pledged ongoing support and said, “We will continue to monitor the developments and more aid will follow.” The Indian Embassy in Myanmar is in close coordination with the authorities there and in touch with the Indian community of 60,000 citizens in Myanmar.

This is the most powerful earthquake to hit Myanmar in over a century, and officials expect the death toll to rise further as disrupted communication hampers updates. As India leads Operation Brahma, the nation once again asserts its position as a regional first responder during times of crisis.

On January 20, 2025, the Indian Army’s Motorcycle Rider Display Team, the “Daredevils,” achieved a world record at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. They created the highest human pyramid on moving motorcycles. The pyramid, which stood at an impressive height of 20.4 feet, involved 40 men on 7 motorcycles. The team covered a distance of 2 kilometers, traveling from Vijay Chowk to India Gate.

Celebrating a Historic Accomplishment

The Daredevils, part of the Corps of Signals, have earned international fame for their exceptional performances. This latest feat adds to their collection of 33 world records. They hold entries in the Guinness World Records, the Asia Book of Records, and the Limca Book of Records.

After the successful attempt, the Daredevils received cheers from the Signals Fraternity, including Lieutenant General KV Kumar, Head of the Corps of Signals. Their performance boosted the team’s morale and marked the celebration of their achievement.

</excerpt>

The Army Day Parade, held to commemorate General KM Cariappa’s appointment as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949, marks India’s military sovereignty post-independence. This year’s parade at BEG Centre, Khadki, see some firsts, celebrating the rich military heritage of Pune as home to the National Defence Academy and the Southern Command Headquarters.

For the first time, the prestigious Army Day Parade featured the Nepal Army Band as the only foreign contingent. The Nepalese contingent continues the tradition of close military ties between India and Nepal.

Women Agniveers and Modern Contingents

The Women Agniveer Contingent from the Corps of Military Police lead the parade. This represents the increasing role of women in the Indian Army. Traditional and modern contingents, including the Army Service Corps Horse Contingent and units from Maratha Regimental Centre, Artillery Centre Nashik, and others, will display India’s military diversity.

The NCC Girls Contingent from Maharashtra would symbolize the spirit of youth leadership, exemplifying the National Cadet Corps’s role since 1948 in fostering discipline and patriotism.

Cutting-Edge Technology on Display

A Mounted Contingent put on display cutting-edge machinery, including the K-9 Vajra howitzer, BMP-2 Sarath combat vehicle, and T-90 tanks. This spoke of India’s progress in defense manufacturing in the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ scheme, keeping in line with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’.

Technological advancements was the center of attention. Tableaus presented AI-driven systems, drone swarms, cybersecurity innovations, and autonomous vehicles such as the Robotic Mule and Swathi Weapon Locating Radar, underlining modernization and indigenous capabilities.

Inspiring Tableaus and Public Interaction

Tableaus showcase efforts like Mission Olympics of the Indian Army, achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions and contributions of the veterans. In addition, military assets like the Sarvatra Bridging System, Drone Jammers, Mobile Communication Nodes, etc., was on display.

Ties between Army and Citizens Stronger

Hosting the parade in Pune signifies that the city will always remain a part of India’s defense forces. Citizens get a great opportunity to celebrate the Army’s power, unity, and progressive vision.

Dwivedi confirmed that patrolling has resumed in key areas such as Depsang Plains and the Demchok region, marking a significant step towards normalizing the situation in Eastern Ladakh. Regarding the standoff in the Chushul region of Eastern Ladakh, Gen. Dwivedi clarified the misunderstanding surrounding buffer zones.

Buffer Zones Misconception

Gen. Dwivedi clarified the confusion regarding the standoff in the Chushul region of Eastern Ladakh, specifically addressing the concept of buffer zones. “There is nothing called buffer zones… The right terminology is ‘temporary moratorium,'” he explained. He further mentioned that these temporary measures were necessary due to high levels of violence in the region. The Army Chief highlighted that trust between the two sides is critical to determining troop deployment along the LAC.

“Trust between both sides has to have a new understanding… Troop deployment is directly dependent on the trust factor,” the Army Chief said.

Troops Remain Robust at LAC

Gen. Dwivedi emphasized that the situation along the northern borders remains “sensitive but stable.” He noted that in October 2024, tensions in the Demchok and Depsang areas were resolved, with patrolling and grazing activities resuming. However, he assured that troop deployment at the LAC remains “robust” and fully prepared for any eventuality. This decision to resume patrolling followed diplomatic and military discussions, including a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir

Gen. Dwivedi also addressed the rise in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that Pakistan remains the “epicentre of terrorism.” He noted that approximately 60% of terrorism in North Kashmir and 80% in the Jammu region has been carried out by terrorists from Pakistan. Despite this, he pointed to positive developments, including the peaceful conduct of elections and growing tourism in the region. “The Indian Army’s bid to take the region from ‘terrorism to tourism’ is materializing gradually,” he said.

Myanmar Border and Fencing Progress

Finally, Gen. Dwivedi touched upon the security situation at the India-Myanmar border, where he acknowledged that a “spillover is taking place.” He confirmed that fencing efforts along the border are progressing, addressing potential threats from the region.

Turning to Jammu & Kashmir, General Dwivedi spoke on the significant progress made in counter-terrorism operations. “Last year, 60% of terrorists eliminated were of Pakistan origin. As of today, whatever is a remnant in the Valley and Jammu area, we feel that around 80% or more are of Pakistan origin” he said.

Despite the ongoing infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC), the situation in J&K is firmly under control, with the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, effective since February 2021, holding steady. “On Line of Control, ceasefire which is effective from February 2021 after the DGMO understanding is holding on. However, the terror infrastructure remains intact. Infiltration attempts continue including from the IB sector… In recent months, increased terrorist activities were seen in North Kashmir and Doda-Kishtwar belt. Overall violence parameters are under control” he said.

“We witnessed more than 5 lakh pilgrims during Amarnath Yatra this time and the peaceful conduct of elections are indicator of a positive change…The theme of terrorism to tourism is gradually taking shape” General Dwivedi added.

Stability on Northern Borders

In his statement, General Dwivedi noted that the Indian Army has resolved the tense situation in Depsang and Demchok in Eastern Ladakh.
The Army Chief assured that India’s deployment along the LAC remains balanced, robust, and well-equipped to handle any situation that may arise. Additionally, a focused capability development strategy for the northern borders has allowed the integration of niche technology into India’s war-fighting systems. “Own deployment along LAC is balanced and robust. We are well poised to deal with any situation. A focus capability development for northern borders enabled infusion of niche technology into a war-fighting system…” he said.

Shift from Terrorism to Tourism

The Army Chief underscored the gradual shift from terrorism to tourism in J&K. He noted that this shift signals a positive transformation in the region’s security landscape and economy. This shift marks a key milestone in the ongoing efforts to bring peace and stability to the area.

</excerpt>

Notwithstanding the economic issues faced by it back home, the Pakistan Army is fully backing the terrorist infrastructure as 60 per cent of terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir this year were Pakistanis.

The local recruitment of terrorists in the Pakistan-sponsored terror groups ia also very low as only four locals have joined these groups this year, Army officials said.

In different encounters and operations, the security has been able to eliminate around 75 terrorists in different regions of the state including the Jammu region and the Kashmir valley along with the firefights that take place during infiltration attempts by terrorists on the Line of Control, they said.

Notably, Pakistan has traditionally been seen as one of the biggest hubs for exporting terrorists to almost all parts of the world with a main focus on India.

Islamabad has tried to give a strong push to terrorism in the Jammu region since last year but the activities of the Pakistani terrorists in this area of Jammu region including districts in Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Reasi govern been curbed with additional deployment of troops and filling up of the vacuum created thereafter withdrawal of the Uniform Force of Rashtriya Rifles from there for the China border deployments.

Conclusion

The Indian Army has taken a decision to shift the iconic 1971 surrender painting to the Manekshaw Centre, which has elicited mixed reactions. However, the Army is of the opinion that this is the most appropriate location for the painting, both in terms of military history and legacy of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.

</excerpt>

In a significant boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative within the defence sector, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved two major projects totaling approximately Rs 20,000 crore. These projects involve the procurement of 12 Su-30 MKI fighter jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and 100 K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers for the Indian Army.

The CCS granted approval on Thursday, and the contract for the Su-30 MKI jets has already been finalized, according to defense sources cited by ANI. The 12 Su-30 MKI aircraft will be manufactured under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at its Nashik facility, with an estimated cost of around Rs 13,000 crore. These new jets are intended to replace aircraft that have been lost over the years.

Additionally, the Indian Army will acquire 100 K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers, to be produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at their Hazira plant in Gujarat. This procurement is a repeat order, as the Army has already inducted 100 of these howitzers. L&T has increased the indigenous content in the howitzers, which have been deployed in both desert regions and along the Chinese front in the Ladakh sector.

These projects are expected to strengthen small and medium enterprises within the supply chains of HAL and L&T, further bolstering India’s defense manufacturing capabilities.

A High-Stakes Rescue in Harsh Terrain

The rescue operation took place in an undisclosed snow-covered region, showcasing the soldiers’ determination and resourcefulness. The young bear was spotted in visible distress, wandering with its head trapped in a tin box. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the soldiers swiftly formulated a strategy to approach and free the animal without causing harm.

Navigating the rugged and icy terrain, the troops carefully assessed the situation upon reaching the cub. Initially, they attempted to remove the canister by hand but soon realised that this approach could inadvertently injure the bear. Demonstrating quick thinking, they employed tools to carefully cut through the metal, eventually freeing Bahadur with precision and care.

Compassionate Care and a Grateful Farewell

Following the rescue, the soldiers provided food to the Bear Cub to help it recover from its ordeal. Bahadur appeared to trust his saviours, staying close to them for several hours after the operation. Eventually, the cub wandered back into the wilderness, leaving behind a poignant moment of connection between humans and wildlife.

Widespread Praise for Soldiers’ Compassion

The viral video of the rescue has earned the soldiers immense praise for their bravery and empathy.
