Virat Kohli’s 84 and KL Rahul’s unbeaten 42* sealed the victory. A fan’s heartwarming hug for Rahul went viral after the match.
</excerpt>

India secured a place in the Champions Trophy 2025 final with a commanding four-wicket victory over Australia in the first semi-final on Tuesday in Dubai. Despite losing early wickets, Virat Kohli’s 84-run knock and a crucial partnership between KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya guided India to victory with 11 balls to spare.

Opting to bat first, Australia posted 264 before being bundled out. Steve Smith led the charge with a 73-run knock, but lack of substantial partnerships cost them momentum. Mohammed Shami’s disciplined bowling attack, alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, ensured that the Aussies couldn’t capitalize on their start.

Heartwarming Moment: Fan Hugs KL Rahul on the Field

As soon as Rahul hit the winning six, Ravindra Jadeja hugged him in celebration. The most memorable moment, though, was when a fan broke security and ran on to the field to hug Rahul. The wicketkeeper-batter opened his arms wide and hugged the fan warmly, an act that quickly went viral on social media. Umpires soon escorted the fan off the field.

A Fan hugged KL Rahul after the Semi-Final and a beautiful gesture by Rahul as well ♥️ pic.twitter.com/qykn66XPdb

KL Rahul on His Batting Position in ODIs

Post-match, KL Rahul discussed his place in the batting line-up of India and how he has molded himself over the course of time.

“Yeah, I do [enjoy batting at the top], I mean I won’t lie. It’s after opening the batting in Australia in Test matches and having to face that attack in Australia and you know how red-ball [cricket] is much harder. I opened the batting there and then to come here and bat low seems a bit different, but this is how I’ve played white-ball cricket in the last four-five year,” Rahul told Star Sports.

“So, I’m quite used to going up and down the order so I’m just happy getting a chance to play in the middle and whatever role is given, I think it’s really helped me understand my game a lot more and I’ve had to work on boundary hitting a lot more in the last year or so because the last ODI we played in Sri Lanka I batted at No. 6, so I knew that’s where I’ll be batting and [we] needed a left-hander in the top order,” he said.

India’s Chase: Rahul Finishes in Style

India faced early setbacks, losing two wickets quickly, but Virat Kohli’s 84-run innings steadied the ship. Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul stitched together a crucial partnership to keep India on track. Rahul remained unbeaten at 42 off 34 balls*, sealing the win in style with a massive six off Glenn Maxwell.

India to Meet New Zealand in Champions Trophy 2025 Final

India progressed to the final with this victory and will meet New Zealand on Sunday in Dubai. The team hopes to carry its dominant streak and win the much-desired trophy.

</excerpt>

India marched into the Champions Trophy 2025 final after defeating Australia by four wickets in the semifinal in Dubai on Tuesday. The standout performer was Virat Kohli, who played a crucial 84-run innings, surpassing multiple records in ICC tournaments.

Kohli’s Historic Knock

Chasing 265 on a tricky pitch, India faced early setbacks at 43/2. However, Kohli stabilized the innings with a composed 84 off 98 balls, featuring five fours. He built crucial partnerships with:

Shreyas Iyer (91-run stand)

Axar Patel (44-run stand)

KL Rahul (47-run stand)

Despite falling to Adam Zampa for the sixth time in ODIs, Kohli’s knock laid the foundation for India’s victory.

Kohli’s New Milestones in ICC Events

With this innings, Kohli set multiple records:

Most 50+ scores in ICC ODI tournaments: 24 (overtaking Sachin Tendulkar’s 23)

Most runs in ICC ODI tournaments: 2,541 runs at 65.15 avg. (second to Tendulkar’s 2,719 runs)

First-ever player to score 1,000+ runs in ICC knockout matches (across all formats)

India’s highest run-getter in Champions Trophy history: 746 runs in 17 matches at 82.88 avg.

Second player to score 8,000+ runs in ODI run-chases (after Sachin Tendulkar)

Most runs in successful ODI run-chases: 5,913 runs at an average of 89.59

Australia’s First Innings Performance

Batting first, Australia posted 264 in 49.3 overs, with top performances from:

Steve Smith: 73 (96 balls)

Alex Carey: 61 (57 balls)

Travis Head: 39 (33 balls)

India’s bowlers shone, led by Mohammed Shami (3/48), Varun Chakravarthy (2/49), and Ravindra Jadeja (2/40).

Hardik Pandya’s Late Heroics Seals Victory

India’s chase was powered by Kohli’s knock, but Hardik Pandya provided the final push with an explosive 28 off 24 balls, including three sixes. His big hits against Adam Zampa ensured India crossed the finish line in 48.1 overs at 267/6.

Hardik Pandya’s Explosive Finish

Chasing 265, India found themselves needing 27 runs off the last 24 balls. Enter Hardik Pandya, who turned the game in India’s favor with his fearless hitting. His 28 off 24 balls, which included one four and three sixes, proved to be the difference. Two of his sixes off Adam Zampa sent the crowd into a frenzy, while Virat Kohli’s animated reaction from the dressing room quickly went viral on social media.

Kohli’s Masterclass in a High-Pressure Chase

Batting on a challenging pitch, Kohli anchored the chase with a controlled innings, forming key partnerships with:

Shreyas Iyer (45 runs)

KL Rahul (42 runs)

Hardik Pandya (28 runs)

Kohli ensured the scoreboard kept ticking, allowing Pandya to finish the chase in style.

Australia’s First Innings Effort

Earlier, Australia posted 264 in 49.3 overs, led by:

Steve Smith (73 off 96 balls)

Alex Carey (61 runs)

Travis Head (39 runs)

Despite strong partnerships, Australia struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack.

India’s Bowlers Shine

India’s bowlers put up a clinical performance:

Mohammed Shami: 3/38

Varun Chakravarthy & Ravindra Jadeja: 2 wickets each

Their efforts restricted Australia below 270, setting up a manageable chase.

India Awaits Final Clash

With this victory, India advances to the Champions Trophy final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final. The highly anticipated final will take place in Dubai on March 9, 2025.

Conclusion

Virat Kohli Guides India to Champions Trophy Final in Dubai

<excerpt>Virat Kohli played a crucial knock of 84 off 98 balls, leading India to victory against Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final.
</excerpt>

Virat Kohli displayed remarkable composure in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against Australia, scoring 84 off 98 balls to guide India to a thrilling victory. India successfully chased 265 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, securing a spot in the final.

Kohli’s Calculated Approach on a Tough Pitch

The pitch in Dubai offered variable bounce and movement, making batting challenging. Kohli adapted his game accordingly, curbing his aggressive instincts and focusing on strike rotation. His innings featured only five fours and no sixes, but his partnerships with Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and KL Rahul played a key role in India’s chase.

“Similar to Pakistan”: Kohli on His Knock

Speaking after the match, Kohli compared his innings to his century against Pakistan, emphasizing patience and adaptability:

“It was pretty similar to the other day against Pakistan. It is about understanding the conditions and rotating the strike because partnerships on this pitch are important.”

Kohli also highlighted the importance of keeping composure under pressure:

“This game is all about pressure. If you go deep into the game, the opposition usually gives in. It is important to control your impulses.”

India’s Path to the Final

With this victory, India moves to the Champions Trophy final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final. The final is set to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9, 2025.

Looking Ahead

Kohli’s performance once again underlined his ability to handle high-pressure situations. Fans eagerly await whether he can deliver another match-winning performance in the final and help India lift the Champions Trophy.

India’s bowlers staged a strong comeback.
</excerpt>

Australia scored 264 runs in the first ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against India due to significant half-centuries by Steve Smith and Alex Carey. The match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium was full of dramatic moments, one of them being a weird incident when the ball struck the stumps but did not remove the bails, giving a reprieve to Steve Smith.

Smith’s Lifeline as Bails Stay Put

Australia, after winning the toss, decided to bat first. The opening combination of Travis Head and Cooper Connolly began carefully, but India got the better of them when Mohammed Shami sent Connolly back to the pavilion without scoring. In five overs later, mystery bowler Varun Chakravarthy brought a breakthrough with the wicket of Head for 39.

But the turning point of the innings was in the 14th over when Axar Patel struck the inside edge of Steve Smith’s bat. The ball struck the base of the off-stump but, by luck for Smith, did not dislodge the bails. Rohit Sharma and the Indian team could be seen getting frustrated as Smith escaped to steady Australia’s innings.

Australia’s Batting Performance

Indian bowlers kept the pressure on consistently, but Smith (73 from 96) was the key, forming three vital partnerships of 52 runs with Head, 56 with Marnus Labuschagne, and 54 with Carey. Carey, who scored the top score of 61 from 57 balls, helped Australia reach the 250-run mark despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Labuschagne (29) was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja, and Josh Inglis (17) was taken at short cover off Jadeja’s bowling. Glenn Maxwell, who was supposed to unleash himself in the death overs, played a loose shot off Axar Patel and got bowled at a critical moment.

India’s Comeback with the Ball

At one point, Australia were poised to reach a 300-plus score, but India’s tight bowling kept them from speeding up in the last overs. Shami got rid of Smith with a full toss that thudded into the stumps, ending his nicely laid-out innings. Carey, for all his fighting effort, was run out trying a speculative second run, courtesy of Shreyas Iyer’s accurate direct hit.

Ben Dwarshuis added a useful 34-run partnership with Carey before Australia was dismissed for 264. Jadeja (2/40) and Axar Patel (1/42) kept things in order during the middle overs, while Shami and Chakravarthy gave timely breaches.

India in Comfortable Position for Chase

With a score of 265 to chase, India will support themselves to run it down, considering the solid batting unit of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill. Though the Dubai pitch has played favorably, pressure of a semi-final might complicate the run chase.

India’s disciplined bowling display has made it a point not to be running after an overpowering total. Australia’s attack, spearheaded by Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, will then try to establish early inroads. The second innings will see a thrilling competition as India pushes for a final spot in the Champions Trophy.

</excerpt>

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 India vs Australia semi-final saw a turning point when Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami dropped a sharp catch of Australian captain Steve Smith. The dropped catch invited scathing criticism from former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, who questioned the commitment of Shami in going for the catch.

The incident occurred in the fourth ball of the 22nd over when Smith, who was playing at 36 along with Marnus Labuschagne, was intent on reconstructing Australia’s innings. The dropped catch helped Smith go on with his innings and eventually achieve a well-built half-century.

Gavaskar Criticizes Shami for Lack of Conviction

While ex-Pakistan captain and broadcaster Ramiz Raja conceded that the catch was tough, he pointed to the pace and power with which the ball approached Shami. Unlike him, Gavaskar was rather damning, suggesting Shami wasn’t convinced about the attempt.

This is what they said during commentary:

Ramiz Raja: “A difficult chance, this was hit hard. Travis Head’s was a scoop, this came from the middle of the blade. Hardly had any time to react. It hit him on the wrist I think.”

pic.twitter.com/c4zBOxkVmI

Sunil Gavaskar: “There seem to be no conviction going for that. He is just putting his hand up in hope, you can see that, the way the hand is positioned, not looking to actually catch it. No conviction in the attempt. No wonder it was dropped.”

Shami looked irritated after losing control of the ball. The opportunity went awry as Smith went on to register a half-century, establishing solidity in Australia’s innings.

Australia Steady After Early Wickets

Although he lost Labuschagne to Ravindra Jadeja for 29 in the next over from 36 balls, Smith continued his performance well. His fifty came in the 26th over in 68 deliveries. Australia, in the same match, won the toss and decided to play first at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Shivalkar was among the best spinners of Indian domestic cricket. He had an incredible haul of 589 wickets from 124 first-class games at a remarkable average of 19.69.
A key architect of Mumbai’s 15-season Ranji Trophy winning streak, Shivalkar delivered one of the tournament’s finest performances in the 1972–73 final. His 8 for 16 and 5 for 18 spell drove Bombay to a comprehensive win against Tamil Nadu.

Australia has won the toss and opted to bat first.
</excerpt>

Australia has won the toss and chosen to bat first against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal. Australia, missing important pacers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, is still a powerful team, given their history since their record chase of 352 runs from behind against England in Lahore.

India Seeks to End Knockout Jinx against Australia

India has a historic challenge of not having beaten Australia in an ICC knockout match since the 2011 World Cup quarterfinal. Since then, they have lost the 2015 ODI World Cup semifinal, the 2023 ODI World Cup final, and the 2023 World Test Championship final. India, though, comes to this game on a confident note, having a six-match ODI winning streak and having won two consecutive run chases in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Spin to Play a Key Role

India’s plan rests on their potent spin attack with Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy. Varun pointed out the necessity of patience over wizardry on these pitches, suggesting a spin-based plan of attack.

India’s opening batsmen have been in great nick, so they are the favorites for this high-pressure match.

Playing XIs for India vs Australia Semifinal

India’s XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy.

Australia’s XI: Cooper Connolly, Travis Head, Steven Smith (c), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Tanveer Sangha.

With Australia playing first, India’s spinners will get the opportunity to make an early impression and stage a strong chase in this much-awaited semifinal.

</excerpt>

A six-wicket haul from Mitchell Starc helped Australia defy brief periods of fightback by Indian stars KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Nitish Kumar Reddy as the visitors were skittled out for 180 at the end of the second session on day one of the second Test at Adelaide Oval on Friday.

At the end of the second session, India was all out for 180 runs, with Nitish (42) being the top run-getter for India. However, Starc (6/48) dismantled India with a memorable six-fer, adding yet another accomplishment to his envious pink-ball Test resume.

India started the second session at 81/4, with Rishabh Pant (4*) and skipper Rohit Sharma (1*) unbeaten.

The Indian captain struggled against the Aussie bowling attack and was trapped leg-before-wicket by Scott Boland for a struggle-filled three runs in 23 balls. India was 87/5 in 25.5 overs.

Pant was joined by Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had notched scores of 41 and 38* in the Perth Test and won the hearts of many with his aggressive hitting.

India reached the 100-run mark in 30.4 overs, thanks to a fine boundary toward mid-off by Nitish.

In the 33rd over, Pant was dismissed by skipper Pat Cummins, who removed him for 21 in 35 balls. Pant could not face the awkwardly high amount of bounce, and Marnus Labuschagne caught him at wide gully as he tried to defend himself. India was 109/6 in 32.5 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin was next up, and he tried to exert some pressure on Australian bowlers with some boundaries, giving some support to Nitish. He was, however, trapped lbw by Starc on a fine delivery for 22 in 22 balls, with three fours. India was 141/7 in 38.2 overs. Three balls later, Starc completed his five-wicket haul by removing Harshit Rana for a duck. India was 141/8 in 38.5 overs.

Nitish provided some much-needed bonus runs to India, audaciously taking on Boland, smashing him for two sixes and a four. This made Boland’s line and length really unstable, and he delivered two no balls. 21 runs came from his over.

However, his fightback could not last long, as Cummins got Bumrah for a duck, and Nitish was Starc’s sixth wicket for 42 in 54 balls, with three fours and three sixes. India was all out for 180 in 44.1 overs.

Starc (6/48 in 14.1 overs) solidified his legacy as perhaps the greatest pink-ball Test bowler with a memorable fifer, his first against India in Tests and his fourth in day-and-night Tests, which is the most by any bowler. Cummins and Boland also got two wickets.

At Tea, India was 82/4, with Rishabh Pant (4*) and skipper Rohit Sharma (1*) unbeaten.

After electing to bat first, India was off to a poor start as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was trapped leg-before-wicket plumb on the first ball of the innings. India was 0/1.

Following that, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were the pair at the crease who had to see off the new, shiny, pink ball. On his return from a thumb injury, Gill made his attacking intentions clear with two classy boundaries against Mitchell Starc, who had just taken Jaiswal’s wicket.

Gill was targeting Starc really well, hitting him for an odd boundary. Rahul was caught behind by wicketkeeper Alex Carey on a delivery by Scott Boland in the eighth over, but to the delight of fans, it was a no-ball.

At the end of the first 10 overs, India was 30/1, with Gill (19*) and KL (9*) unbeaten.

Rahul, who looked in supreme touch in the Perth Test, showcased it to the Adelaide crowd with some fine drives, including two successive boundaries against Aussie skipper Pat Cummins in the 15th over, which took India to the 50-run mark in 14.5 overs. KL (26*) and Gill (25*) were seeing off the pace trio of Cummins, Boland, and Starc really well with patience, punishing loose balls with disdainful drives.

KL’s stay at the crease was ended by Starc with a fine catch from Nathan McSweeney at gully. KL was gone for 37 in 64 balls, with six fours. India was 69/2 in 18.4 overs.

Virat Kohli was also looking good but was caught in slips by Steve Smith, with Starc getting him for just seven runs. India was 77/3 in 20.1 overs.

India’s downfall continued, with Gill being trapped lbw by Boland for 31 in 51 balls, with five fours. India was 81/4 in 21.1 overs.

At the session’s end, Rishabh and Rohit were unbeaten.

Also read: Allan Border Points The Indian Player He Is Worried About And Its Not Kohli Or Bumrah

The couple has previously been cautious about keeping their children out of the public eye, and they had requested the media not to photograph their kids.
Virat Kohli Reaches Major Milestone in Perth Test

On the cricketing front, Virat Kohli is continuing his stellar career with a major milestone in the ongoing Test series. The former captain became the fifth Indian batsman to score 2,000 Test runs against Australia.
2. Highest Individual Scores in T20 World Cups:

3. Highest Individual Score by a Captain in T20 World Cups:

– His 41-ball 92 is also the second-highest individual score by a captain in Men’s T20 World Cups, just behind Chris Gayle’s 98 against India in 2010.

These records highlight Rohit Sharma’s exceptional form and contribution to Indian cricket, especially in the T20 format, solidifying his status as one of the game’s premier batsmen.

Rohit Sharma’s team recently defeated Australia by 27 runs. Their only dropped points came from the abandoned fixture against Canada due to rain in Lauderhill, Florida.

Meanwhile, Team England also reached Guyana for the semi-final. England cricket posted a tweet as the team boarded the aircraft for Georgetown with the message “Definitely England in the semi-finals.”

The last India-England Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final was 19 months ago in Adelaide, where Jos Buttler and Alex Hales led England to a 10-wicket win, prompting India to shift from established superstars to younger players and from conservatism to aggression.

Meanwhile, India has yet to win the T20 World Cup 2024 since its inception in 2007 and is striving for its first World Cup victory in any format since the 50-over tournament in 2011. The Men in Blue last claimed an ICC trophy in 2013 when they secured the ICC Champions Trophy in England.

</excerpt>

Former India star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh showered praise on captain Rohit Sharma for his sensational innings against Australia’s formidable bowling attack in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Rohit’s blistering 92 off just 41 balls propelled India to a commanding total of 205/5, setting up a crucial 24-run victory.

Yuvraj Singh took to Instagram to commend Rohit’s flamboyant knock, describing it as a “phenomenal knock in true hitman style.” He lauded Rohit for playing a captain’s innings that set the momentum for India in the match.

Rohit’s innings was highlighted by his audacious stroke play, particularly against Mitchell Starc, Australia’s premier fast bowler. In the third over, Rohit launched an assault on Starc, scoring 29 runs off the over, which proved pivotal in shaping India’s innings. He smashed eight towering sixes during his innings, showcasing his ability to dominate even the best bowling attacks.

The highlight of Rohit’s onslaught was his treatment of Mitchell Starc. He started the over with a boundary over covers, followed by clearing the ropes twice in consecutive deliveries with effortless strokes. Despite Starc attempting a yorker on the final ball of the over, Rohit managed to dispatch it for another six over third man, adding to Australia’s bowling woes.

Overall, Rohit Sharma’s aggressive batting display not only earned him his highest score in T20 World Cup history but also ensured India’s path to the semi-finals of the tournament. His performance was a testament to his skill and leadership as captain, receiving acclaim from fans and cricketing legends alike.

</excerpt>

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma delivered a stunning performance, surpassing Virat Kohli to become the leading run-scorer in the T20I format and equaling Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s record for most T20I wins as a captain. In a thrilling match against Australia, Rohit scored 92 off 41 balls, bringing his total T20I runs to 4,165 in 157 matches with an average of 32.03 and a strike rate of 140.75. This pushed Babar Azam to the second spot with 4,145 runs in 123 matches at an average of 41.03, and Kohli to third with 4,103 runs in 123 matches at an average of 48.84.

Rohit’s performance not only secured his record but also led India to a significant 24-run victory over Australia, defending a target of 205. This win marked Rohit’s 48th T20I victory as a captain, tying him with Babar Azam for the most T20I wins as a captain, both having achieved 48 wins in their respective tenures.

India’s victory ensured their place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, where they will face England in Guyana. Celebrations and congratulations poured in on social media, with BCCI secretary Jay Shah praising Rohit’s performance and expressing optimism for India’s chances to win the World Cup. Jay Shah’s message on X highlighted Rohit’s brilliance with the bat and India’s unbeaten run leading into the semi-finals.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha also lauded the Indian team’s performance, reflecting the widespread admiration and support for the Men in Blue following their impressive win against Australia.

</excerpt>

India maintained their clean record with a decisive 24-run win against their long-time rivals Australia. This victory propels India into the semi-finals, where they will face England. Australia’s hopes of securing a semi-final spot now rest with Bangladesh, who must achieve an emphatic victory to progress.

India entered the game as marginal favorites, given their clinical performances leading up to this match. Despite Australia’s reputation for excelling in high-stakes games, India set a commanding tone. Rohit Sharma’s explosive batting, especially his 29-run over off Starc, laid a solid foundation. Contributions from Suryakumar Yadav (SKY), Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya further propelled India to a total beyond 200.

Australia’s chase began poorly with the loss of David Warner in the first over. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh then attempted to stabilize the innings. Marsh, despite looking scratchy and benefiting from two dropped catches, struggled to find form. Head, continuing his consistent performance against India in ICC events, struck several powerful blows, placing India under pressure. However, Marsh’s dismissal to a spectacular catch by Axar Patel shifted the momentum back to India. Glenn Maxwell provided a brief scare, but his wicket marked the beginning of the end for Australia, who collapsed swiftly thereafter.

India’s bowling attack, despite some challenges, managed to dismantle the Australian batting lineup effectively. This victory underscores India’s dominance and sets up an exciting semi-final clash with England. Meanwhile, Australia’s fate now hinges on Bangladesh’s performance in their upcoming match.

After an interval of eight months, Team India has an opportunity to seek retribution for their heartbreaking loss in the 2023 World Cup final, but this time in a different format and on neutral ground. Following Australia’s unexpected defeat to Afghanistan on Sunday in Kingstown during their second Super Eight match in Group 2 of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2021 champions find themselves in a precarious position. Mitchell Marsh’s team, previously poised to advance to the semifinals alongside India with a win over Rashid Khan’s side, now faces a decisive match against India to determine their fate.

Despite Australia’s determination to defeat India and secure their third consecutive semifinal appearance, they must contend with the looming threat of rain in St Lucia. According to Accuweather, the forecast for Monday morning predicts overcast skies with occasional rain and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall is expected between 7 and 9 AM local time, with precipitation chances exceeding 65 percent. However, conditions are anticipated to be cloudy during the match hours starting at 10:30 AM local time. Any heavy rain just before the match could delay the start, as has been the case in the last 24 hours.

A delayed start could potentially disrupt the crucial penultimate Super Eight game of the 2024 T20 World Cup, compounded by afternoon thunderstorm possibilities per the weather forecast.

What if India vs Australia is rained out?

In the event of rain washing out the India vs Australia match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, both teams will be awarded one point each since there are no reserve days allocated for Super Eight matches by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This outcome would guarantee India a place in the T20 World Cup semifinals for the second consecutive time under a no-result scenario. Conversely, Australia would find themselves with just three points from three games.

Australia’s hopes of advancing would depend on other results. They would need Bangladesh to upset Afghanistan or hope for a similar washout in the match in Kingstown. Should the Bangladesh-Afghanistan game also end in a no-result, Australia could still qualify based on a superior net run rate despite having the same number of points from three matches.

The clash between India and Australia not only impacts the current standings of the tournament but also evokes memories of their previous World Cup encounters. With Australia eager for redemption, they face a determined Indian side striving to secure their semifinal berth amid the unpredictable weather conditions in the Caribbean.

</excerpt>

Australia’s hopes in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup have been thrown into uncertainty following a shocking defeat to Afghanistan, leaving them reliant on a crucial match against India. The loss has put Mitchell Marsh’s team in a precarious position, needing a victory to secure a spot in the semifinals for the third consecutive time.

However, their path is threatened by adverse weather conditions in St Lucia. According to Accuweather, heavy rainfall is predicted in the morning with overcast skies throughout the day. The match, scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM local time, faces the possibility of a delayed start due to the impending rain.

In the event of a washout, both teams will earn one point each as per ICC rules for Super Eight matches, leaving Australia with a challenging three-point tally. This scenario would almost guarantee India a semifinal berth, their second consecutive in the T20 World Cup.

Australia’s qualification hopes could hinge on other outcomes, including the result of the Bangladesh-Afghanistan match or potential net run rate considerations. Should Bangladesh defeat Afghanistan or their match also be affected by rain, Australia’s advancement remains a possibility based on superior run rate.

The stakes are high for both teams as they prepare to face off in a critical encounter amidst the unpredictable weather conditions of St Lucia.

This match was set after India secured their spot in the second round of the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating co-hosts USA. They are among the first three teams to enter the Super Eight, alongside South Africa and Australia. Regardless of their group standings, India and Australia are pre-determined to clash on June 24.

The match scheduled for June 24 will feature A1 (India) against B2 (Australia). Even if India finishes second in Group A, they will progress to the Super Eight as A1, while Australia, pre-seeded as B2, will maintain their position regardless of their group stage performance.

India is also set to face New Zealand (C1) and Sri Lanka (D2) as per the pre-decided schedule. However, if New Zealand and Sri Lanka fail to qualify for the Super Eight, other non-seeded teams from Groups C and D will join India’s group in the second round.

As of now, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are leading the race to join India’s group in the Super Eight. Even if West Indies tops Group C and South Africa finishes second in Group D, they cannot face India in the Super Eight due to the pre-determined seedings.

The unique Cricket Ganesha Temple in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, features idols of Lord Ganesha in various cricketing avatars, with eleven heads symbolising the eleven members of a cricket team. The presiding deity has eleven heads, and there are additional Ganesha idols in batting and bowling postures.

Rama Krishnan, the founder of the temple, conducted a special prayer, chanting cricket bhajans during the pooja. Cricket enthusiasts often visit the Ganesh temple to offer prayers before India’s matches. Krishnan expressed that Lord Ganesha’s blessings would be bestowed equally upon both right-handed and left-handed players, whether they are batsmen or bowlers.

Team India, who went undefeated throughout the event, advanced to the final with an all-around effort against New Zealand in the semi-finals. Virat Kohli, a famous Indian hitter, made history by becoming the first player to score 500 runs in ODIs. In the match, India reached 397/4, while Mohammed Shami led the bowling assault, taking seven wickets to hold off a resolute New Zealand response highlighted by Daryl Mitchell’s 134.

Australia became the second finalist in the tournament after defeating South Africa by three wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.

</excerpt>

Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green’s unbeaten stand for the fifth wicket took Australia past the 300-run mark as India bowlers struggled for wickets in the first session of the second day of the fourth Test here at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Australia resumed their overnight score of 255/4, with Khawaja on 104* and Green on 49* at the crease. The batting pair of Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green were decisive in their approach and made the Indian bowlers toil hard, making the most of the excellent batting conditions on offer.

India started with spin from both ends, with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel bowling in tandem from both ends, but captain Rohit Sharma introduced Mohammed Shami into the attack after the spinners failed to get any purchase from the wicket. Australia all-rounder Cameron Green brought up his fifty soon after the day’s play began, while Usman Khawaja continued to pile up runs after notching up a century on the first day.

The Australian batters rotated the strike brilliantly, not allowing the Indian bowlers to settle down while whacking the loose balls on offer. Cameron Green was the aggressor of the batting pair, smashing boundaries regularly. The final half hour was completely dominated by the Australian batters, as runs came thick and fast for the visitors.

Khawaja displayed great resilience and determination as he brought up his 150 minutes before lunch with a pull. Umesh Yadav was on the receiving end, with Green smashing him for three boundaries in an over. The Aussie pair remained unbeaten as the visitors ended the session close to the 350-run mark with Khawaja 150*(354) and Green 95*(135) at the crease.

The Australian cricket team was seen wearing black armbands as a mark of respect for Pat Cummins’ mother, who passed away on Thursday after a prolonged battle with cancer. On Friday morning in Ahmedabad, coach Andrew McDonald gathered the team before the game to share that Maria Cummins had passed away from breast cancer. Brief Score: Australia 347/4 (Usman Khawaja 150*, Cameron Green 95*, Mohammed Shami 2-84) vs. India.

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green might come up short on his bowling fitness as he eyes to be match-ready for the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy against hosts India. Green has been training with the team in Sydney ahead of the Test match in Nagpur to regain match fitness to force his way into the playing eleven for the first Test and will be hoping to hear good news from the surgeon for his broken finger which he sustained against South Africa during the Melbourne Test last month.

Early in his professional career, Green has shown himself to be a cricketer who relishes the tempo of consistently playing long-form. He has improved over the course of the summer in both the Test matches this season and the Ashes from a year ago. In Melbourne, he took five wickets against South Africa before fracturing his finger. The all-rounder came in to bat and managed to make a crucial unbeaten fifty, playing with the injured finger.

“Where he’s positioned at the moment, his biggest challenge is bowling. There is a lack of loading there, and one of the key reasons around us getting into this camp early is to make sure that we’re ready to go for the rigours of what the bowling unit [is] going to encompass.

Building confidence is the main thing, setting him up to succeed in that first Test match, having enough time, that will be the critical question,” Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said as quoted by ESPN. Green would be regarded as a specialist batter, though, if his bowling does not quite measure up. Last year, he demonstrated his aptitude for catching up quickly on the subcontinent with key halfcenturies in Lahore and, in Galle, where he won Player of the Match on a tricky surface.

India will need 324 runs more, with all their wickets intact, when they come out to bat on Tuesday to win the fourth and final Test against Australia at The Gabba.

India reached 4/0 in their chase on 328 in the extended final session on Monday before rain started pouring in and umpires were forced to call for early Stumps. Only 1.5 overs could be bowled in India’s second innings on Day Four as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 4 and 0 respectively.

The weather forecast for the final day isn’t great and Australia will be praying that rain gods stay away so that they can win the Brisbane Test and win the Border-Gavaskar series, a trophy which they lost in India’s last tour of 2018-19. On the other hand, a draw in the game would be sufficient for India to retain the coveted trophy.

The highest successful chase at Gabba ame in 1951, when Australia finished 236/7, but the Tim Paine led-side have fresher memories of how India incredibly salvaged a draw last week in Sydney.

Earlier, India bowled out Australia for 294 in their second innings, after resuming the day on 21/0.

Steve Smith was the top scorer for Australia in their second essay as he scored 55 runs off 74 deliveries, with the help of seven boundaries. David Warner, Marcus Harris and Cameron Green also made notable contributions of 48, 38 and 37. Pat Cummins and skipper Tim Paine also made scores of 28 and 27.

For India, right-arm fast bowler Mohammed Siraj picked up his maiden five-wicket haul, conceding 73 runs in 19.5 overs. Shardul Thakur also picked four wickets for 61 while debutant off-spinner Washington Sundar scalped one.

India had posted 336 in reply to Australia’s first inning score of 369, thus conceding a 33-run lead.

The four-match series is tied at 1-1 with Australia winning the first Test in Adelaide and India winning the second in Melbourne. The third Test in Sydney had ended in a draw.

Brief scores: Australia 369 and 294 (Steve Smith 55, David Warner 48; Mohammed Siraj 5/73) vs India 336 and 4/0 at Stumps on Day Four (Rohit Sharma 4*, Shubman Gill 0*; Mitchell Starc 0/4)

The Sydney Test begins on 7 January.

India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma geared up for India’s last two Tests against Australia as he resumed training on Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on its Twitter handle. Rohit, who had been in a 14-day quarantine in Sydney after his arrival from India in mid-December, flew to Melbourne on Wednesday to join the team.

“The Hitman is here and has just got the engine started!” wrote BCCI on Instagram. On Thursday, the BCCI tweeted pictures of the India opener doing catching practice.

“The engine is just getting started and here is a quick glimpse of what lies ahead,” the BCCI wrote on twitter with the pictures.

Rohit’s match fitness will be crucial as he has not played any cricket since the Indian Premier League final on 10 November.

He had stayed back in India to recuperate at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru even though the decision made the regular India skipper Virat Kohli unhappy.

Kohli had said prior to the ODI series that he had not been informed about Rohit’s progress and that he would have loved to have him recuperate in Australia instead of NCA.

Since arrival, the hard quarantine has meant that he has not had a chance of practice. Rohit’s participation in the remaining two Tests, to be held in Sydney and Brisbane, will depend on assessment by the team’s medical staff and management, as stated in a BCCI release shared before Rohit›s departure to Australia. India coach Ravi Shastri too made it clear that Rohit wouldn›t simply walk in to the side.

“We will have a chat with him to see where he is placed physically because he has been quarantined for a couple of weeks. We will have to see now how he feels before we take the call,” Shastri had told media after the second Test which India won.

Rohit last played a Test over a year back, against Bangladesh in Kolkata. That was also India’s first pink-ball Test.

The right-handed batsman had injured his hamstring during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and although he returned to the field to lead Mumbai to a record fifth IPL title, he didn’t travel with the team to Australia subsequently.

Earlier this month, Rohit was declared clinically fit for the tour by the BCCI and he joined the team in time for the third Test.

The four-match series is level at 1-1 after India won the second Test in Melbourne by eight wickets after losing the first Test in Adelaide by the same margin.

The Sydney Test begins on 7 January.

SYDNEY: The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) was on Tuesday confirmed as venue for the third Test between India and Australia, starting 7 January, Cricket Australia (CA) said in a statement on Tuesday. The SCG’s eligibility to host the match was in some doubt because of a spike in Covid-19 cases on the northern beaches of Sydney. “We have met regularly over the past week to assess the unfolding public health situation in Sydney and gauge its impact on border restrictions around the country. To date, we have been able to deliver a safe and successful summer, thanks to our detailed biosecurity protocols and the amazing work of so many great people behind the scenes,” CA interim CEO Nick Hockley said in the statement.
