</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an open interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, spoke on India-China relations, international conflicts, and peace.

He highlighted the historical and cultural connection between the two countries and underscored the need for dialogue rather than discord.

India-China Relations and Historical Ties

PM Modi emphasized how deep and strong the ties have always been between India and China and said that their civilizations have learned from and aided each other. “At one time, India and China together contributed over 50% of the world’s GDP. That’s how big India’s contribution was,” he said.

He admitted that there are border tensions but stated that both nations are trying to get normalcy back. “Differences are natural. Even in a family, everything is not perfect all the time. But our effort is that these differences should not turn into disputes,” Modi clarified.

Border Disputes and Efforts Toward Stability

Speaking to the border tensions that mounted in 2020, Modi promised his recent summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping laid the groundwork for better relations. “Following my recent meeting with President Xi, normalcy has returned to the border. We are now focusing on bringing conditions back to the way they were before 2020,” he said. He emphasized that competition between India and China must be “healthy and natural” and not degenerate into conflict.

Global Conflicts and the Imperative of Cooperation

When questioned regarding rising geopolitical tensions across the globe, Modi lamented growing fragmentation rather than unity after COVID. “At that point, it seemed like the world would learn from it, that we would become a more united world. But unfortunately, rather than moving towards peace, the world became even more fragmented,” he said.

He condemned the inefficiency of global institutions such as the United Nations in solving international conflicts. “Institutions, such as the UN, are not doing their job. Individuals, who do not follow international rules and laws, still move about freely, and no one can hold them back,” he said. Modi promoted a “development-oriented approach” as opposed to expansionism, emphasizing that cooperation is the only way.

</excerpt>

China has created new counties in Xinjiang, one of which is primarily composed of Indian territory that China illegally occupies in Aksai Chin.

The People’s Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region announced the establishment of two counties, He’an County and Hekang County, on Friday. The creation of these counties has been administered by Hotan Prefecture and approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. This development comes just 10 days after the Special Representatives of India and China restarted boundary negotiations, which had been stalled for nearly five years.

Hongliu and Xeyidula townships have been designated as the “county seats” (administrative headquarters) of He’an and Hekang, respectively.

He’an County, in particular, encompasses a significant portion of the 38,000 sq. km area in Aksai Chin that India accuses China of illegally occupying. However, India has yet to comment on this matter.

Earlier this month, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing for the 23rd round of boundary negotiations. The two nations resumed the process, which had been stalled after the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s aggressive moves along the Line of Actual Control and the Indian Army’s counter-deployment in April-May 2020, leading to a military standoff in eastern Ladakh. This conflict escalated tensions between India and China, severely straining their relations.

Additionally, this month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated that India remains “committed to engaging with China through bilateral discussions to arrive at a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable framework for a boundary settlement.”

</excerpt>

In a significant development for India-China relations, the two nations have initiated talks on resuming direct flights and restarting the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. These key discussions took place during a meeting between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Rio de Janeiro on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

This meeting marks the first high-level engagement between India and China following the successful disengagement process in the contentious Depsang and Demchok areas of eastern Ladakh. Both ministers acknowledged that the disengagement has contributed to peace and stability along the border.

Direct flights between the two countries were suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have not resumed, despite the easing of restrictions. The Ladakh standoff, which began in May 2020, further strained ties. In June of the same year, a violent clash in Galwan resulted in the loss of 20 Indian soldiers, with unconfirmed casualties on the Chinese side.

The resolution of the standoff involved extensive military talks, and this recent dialogue signals a thaw in bilateral relations. Both nations aim to move forward by addressing key issues, including easing travel and cultural exchanges.

</excerpt>

The U.S. State Department has expressed its approval of the “reduction in tensions” along the India-China border following the recent disengagement of troops from both countries along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

U.S. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that Washington is closely monitoring the situation and has discussed the matter with Indian officials, while also noting that the U.S. has not played any role in the resolution. “We are closely following the developments and we understand that both countries have taken initial steps to withdraw troops from the friction points along the LAC. We welcome any reduction in tensions along the border,” Miller said during a daily press briefing on Tuesday (local time). “We have talked to our Indian partners and taken a brief on it, but we did not play any role in this resolution,” he added.

Meanwhile, defense sources told ANI that the disengagement process in the Depsang and Demchok areas of the eastern Ladakh sector is nearly complete. The armies of India and China are verifying the withdrawal of positions and removal of infrastructure by each side.

India has been working to resolve this long-standing dispute to restore the situation to what it was before April 2020, prior to the onset of Chinese aggression in the area.

On Friday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that frontier troops from both nations are engaged in “relevant work” in line with the agreement reached on border issues. During a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that this work is progressing “smoothly.” When asked whether India and China had begun troop withdrawals from friction points, Lin Jian said, “In accordance with the recent resolutions on border issues, the Chinese and Indian frontier troops are engaged in relevant work, progressing smoothly at present.”

On October 21, India announced an agreement with China regarding patrolling along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, effectively ending the over four-year military standoff. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Russia, where both leaders welcomed the agreement on patrolling arrangements along the LAC in eastern Ladakh. This meeting followed an announcement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding new patrolling arrangements along the LAC in the India-China border areas.

The border standoff between India and China, which began in 2020 in eastern Ladakh along the LAC, was triggered by Chinese military actions and resulted in a prolonged strain on bilateral relations.

</excerpt>

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of the India-China relationship in shaping the future of Asia and the world, as global changes stretch the fabric of the existing order. Speaking at the Asia Society Policy Institute in New York on Tuesday, Jaishankar stated that the current global landscape is becoming increasingly multipolar, and Asia is at the forefront of this transformation, with India playing a leading role.

“Asia is very much at the cutting edge of that change. Within Asia, India is part of leading that change. But that change is today stretching the fabric of the global order… I think the India-China relationship is key to the future of Asia. In a way, you can say if the world is to be multipolar, Asia has to be multipolar. And therefore, this relationship will influence not just the future of Asia but, in that way, perhaps the future of the world as well,” he remarked.

Jaishankar noted that India must prepare to rise amidst the volatility and unpredictability that characterize the current global environment. “India, which is rising, has to prepare to rise amidst volatility and unpredictability. Typically, when countries rise, when big powers rise, they hope for congenial circumstances,” he said.

He chose three words to describe the shifting global landscape. The first was “rebalancing,” highlighting Asia’s pivotal role in this process. “Now when I speak about rebalancing, I think Asia has been very much key to that rebalancing when we talk. If one looks, for example, at the last top 20 economies of the world, there are many more Asian economies in that than there were a few decades ago. And even if one looks among the 20, the Asian ones have really risen much more strongly and impactfully. And among them, is India, which was a decade ago the 10th largest economy in the world, currently the 5th, likely to be the third by the end of the decade,” he elaborated.

Must Read: Trump Criticizes Ukraine Aid, Praises Russia’s Military History

The second term Jaishankar used was “multipolar,” describing it as the outcome of rebalancing, which is shifting international politics towards finding convergences and overlaps. He noted, “The word that would occur to me when I again tried to describe the world would be multipolar and this is a consequence of rebalancing in the sense that there are many more independent centres of decision-making in the world and what it does is it really shifts international politics more in the direction of finding convergences and overlaps, and that actually has an impact on the global architecture that from what was in the initial years of the UN, a very much more bipolar world briefly went into unipolarity.”

The third word he used was “plurilateralism,” acknowledging it as an awkward term but one that captures the complexity of a world evolving beyond simple bilateral relationships. “A third word that would occur to me is plurilateralism. It’s a very ugly word, but it in a sense describes a world beyond bilateral relations, but in short, a multilateral one where countries form combinations based on these convergences and overlaps that I’ve talked about,” he said.

In conclusion, Jaishankar reiterated, “I think this is the latest step in the growth of that platform now rebalancing multipolar plurilateralism.”

</excerpt>

China is urging India to resume direct passenger flights after a four-year pause, but India remains cautious due to ongoing border tensions. The diplomatic strain dates back to a significant military confrontation in June 2020, which resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers and at least four Chinese soldiers. Thousands of troops from both countries remain stationed along their shared border.

Following the clash, India restricted Chinese investments, banned numerous popular apps, and halted passenger flights between the two nations, although cargo flights continue. While resuming direct flights could benefit both economies, the stakes are particularly high for China, where post-COVID-19 international travel recovery has been sluggish, in contrast to India’s booming aviation sector.

Over the past year, China’s government and airlines have repeatedly approached India’s civil aviation authorities to restore direct air links. “We hope the Indian side will work with China in the same direction for the early resumption of direct flights,” China’s Foreign Ministry told Reuters last week, emphasizing that resuming flights would benefit both countries.

However, a senior Indian official responded, “Unless there is peace and tranquillity on the border, the rest of the relationship cannot move forward.”

Indian airlines, including Indigo, and Chinese carriers are in discussions with their respective governments about the feasibility of resuming direct routes. Pieter Elbers, CEO of Indigo, India’s largest airline, stated, “When the time is right and the governments come to a mutual understanding of how to move forward, we’ll assess the market.”

Direct flights between India and China reached their peak in December 2019, with 539 scheduled flights, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium. Chinese carriers accounted for 371 of those flights, while India’s airlines scheduled 168. These flights were suspended in early 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic escalated. Despite the lifting of international travel restrictions a year later in India and early 2023 in China, direct flights have not resumed, except for minimal COVID-19 repatriation flights. Travelers must now rely on connecting flights through hubs like Hong Kong, Dubai, or Singapore, extending travel time from under six hours to over 10 and diverting business—including lucrative through traffic to the United States—to carriers such as Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Cathay Pacific.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson added, “Direct India-China flights ‘would seem to be a huge potential market,’ but for now there are factors at play ‘beyond our level.'”

</excerpt>

The newly elected NDA government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, has given the green light for the renaming of 30 locations in Tibet, in response to China’s recent renaming activities in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The approved names, chosen based on historical research and their connection to the Tibet region, will be officially announced by the Indian army and updated on their maps along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Relations between the two countries have been strained, particularly since the border standoff in eastern Ladakh began on May 5, 2020, following clashes in the Pangong Tso area. Despite 21 rounds of military talks aimed at resolving the standoff, tensions persist.

This decision serves as a countermeasure to China’s renaming of 30 places in Arunachal Pradesh earlier in April, a move strongly opposed by India. Under Modi 3.0, India seeks to assert its territorial claims by assigning its own names to locations in occupied Tibet.

The list consists of 11 residential areas, 12 mountains, four rivers, one lake, one mountain pass, and a parcel of land, with names presented in Chinese characters, Tibetan, and pinyin. China has previously released lists of standardized names for places in Arunachal Pradesh since 2017, with the latest list containing nearly as many new names as the three previous lists combined.

Despite China’s repeated claims, India has consistently asserted Arunachal Pradesh as an integral and inseparable part of the country. The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that the attribution of “invented” names does not change this reality. This firm response from India comes amid global disapproval of China’s expansionist policies in regions like the South China Sea.

Assuming the role of Minister of External Affairs for the second time, S. Jaishankar today reiterated India’s strong stance on matters concerning China and Pakistan, affirming that India will address both border disputes and cross-border terrorism.

“As far as Pakistan and China are concerned, the relations with those countries are different, and the problems there are also different. Our focus with regard to China will be on finding a solution for the border issues and with Pakistan, we would want to find a solution to the issue of years-old cross-border terrorism,” Jaishankar said after assuming office.

Jaishankar added that India reacted by deploying its own troops in response, resulting in an “very abnormal deployment” along the LAC.

Addressing a Viksit Bharat program in Kolkata on Tuesday, Jaishankar highlighted that China deployed troops during India’s COVID lockdown, and “none of us should disregard the security of the country.”

He said, “We had a 1962 experience useful to remind us a bit as some people are in denial…but it wasn’t just 1962. After 1962, in 1988, Rajiv Gandhi went to China. In many ways, that was the key step towards normalizing our ties. And then, there was a very clear understanding that we will discuss our boundary differences, but we will maintain our peace and tranquility on the border.”

“What changed now is what happened in 2020. In 2020, the Chinese in violation of multiple agreements brought a large number of forces at the border, and they did it at a time when we were under COVID lockdown in this country…We responded by counter-deploying our forces…And then, we had the clash in Galwan,” he asserted.

The External Affairs Minister emphasized that the current tensions between the two countries are not solely about events from 62 years ago but rather about the ongoing developments occurring today along the border.

“And for four years, we both are deployed ahead of our normal base positions, normal patrolling zones out there. So it is a very abnormal deployment today along the Line of Actual Control…” Jaishankar said.

“Now given this tension between the two countries, it is not a matter of we had a conflict 62 years ago, it is what is happening today on the border. As Indian citizens, none of us, can or should disregard the security of our country…so we cannot carry on for the rest of life, saying it is not our concern. So, it is today a challenge,” he added.

Significantly, in 2020, Indian and Chinese troops clashed at Galwan, coinciding with the onset of the pandemic.

Since May 2020, when Chinese troops attempted to alter the status quo aggressively along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, both sides have maintained forward deployments near Patrolling Point 15, which became a contentious area following the Galwan clash.

Since 2020, over 50,000 Indian soldiers have been stationed at forward posts along the LAC equipped with advanced weaponry to deter any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo on the LAC.

During March, amidst border tensions, India and China held discussions on achieving full disengagement and addressing issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western sector of their border areas.

Furthermore, in January of this year, India reiterated its enduring stance on China, emphasizing ongoing diplomatic and military engagement between the two nations in pursuit of a resolution.

“India’s position on China is very well known. It is a relationship, which is not normal, but we have had dialogues both on the military side and on the diplomatic side in October and November. And the idea is that we engage so that we can have some sort of resolution,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during weekly media briefing previously.

For the past three years, the two nations have been embroiled in a military standoff since May 2020, when China attempted to aggressively change the status quo along the LAC.

During the fiscal year 2023-24, the bilateral trade between India and the US reached USD 118.3 billion. Washington held the position of New Delhi’s leading trading partner in both 2021-22 and 2022-23.

According to the data, India’s exports to China grew by 8.7 percent to USD 16.67 billion in the last fiscal year. Key sectors experiencing notable growth in exports to China include iron ore, cotton yarn/fabrics/madeups, handloom, spices, fruits and vegetables, plastic, and linoleum.

Imports from China increased by 3.24 percent to USD 101.7 billion.

Conversely, exports to the US declined by 1.32 percent to USD 77.5 billion in 2023-24 compared to USD 78.54 billion in 2022-23, while imports decreased by approximately 20 percent to USD 40.8 billion, as per the data.

According to the Global Trade Research Initiative, from fiscal year 2019 to FY2024, India’s trade dynamics with its top 15 trading partners experienced notable transformations, impacting both exports and imports as well as the trade surplus or deficit across various sectors.

The initiative noted that China saw a slight decline in exports by 0.6 percent, from USD 16.75 billion to USD 16.66 billion, while imports from China surged by 44.7 percent, rising from USD 70.32 billion to USD 101.75 billion.

“This increase in imports resulted in a widening trade deficit, escalating from USD 53.57 billion in FY2019 to USD 85.09 billion in FY2024, raising concerns about stagnant exports amidst increasing imports,” remarked GTRI Founder Ajay Srivastava.

In contrast, trade with the US demonstrated growth, with exports notably increasing by 47.9 percent from USD 52.41 billion to USD 77.52 billion.

Imports from the US also experienced growth, increasing by 14.7 percent from USD 35.55 billion to USD 40.78 billion. Consequently, India’s trade surplus expanded, rising from USD 16.86 billion to USD 36.74 billion.

As per data from the commerce ministry, China held the position of India’s top trading partner from 2013-14 to 2017-18 and also in 2020-21. Prior to China, the UAE held the title of India’s largest trading partner. The US assumed the role of the largest partner in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

In 2023-24, the UAE, with a trade volume of USD 83.6 billion, ranked as India’s third-largest trading partner. It was followed by Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

</excerpt>

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed optimism regarding the ongoing talks between India and China amid the prolonged military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. In an interview with PTI on Saturday, Singh indicated progress in the discussions and conveyed hope for a resolution to the persistent dispute. Additionally, he emphasized India’s rapid development of infrastructure along the border with China, reaffirming the country’s commitment to ensuring the security of its borders.

“The talks are going on well,” he stated, refraining from providing further details due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing dialogue.

When questioned about his optimism for a favorable resolution and the conclusion of the nearly four-year standoff between the two militaries, Singh responded assertively, stating, “If there was no hope, then why to have talks.” He further remarked, “They (the Chinese side) also have hope, and that is why holding the talks.”

The standoff between the Indian and Chinese militaries has persisted since May 2020, with a comprehensive resolution to the border dispute still pending, despite disengagement from several friction points by both sides. Additionally, the defence minister criticized the Congress for consistently criticizing the government regarding the eastern Ladakh standoff. “They (Congress) are questioning the bravery of Indian soldiers …who are you demoralising? What is your intention? I can also go back to 1962 as well,” he said.

The relationship between the two countries deteriorated significantly after the intense clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, which represented the most severe military confrontation between the two sides in decades.

India-China Tension

India has consistently asserted that normalization of its relationship with China hinges upon peace in the border regions. The two sides convened the latest round of high-level military discussions in February with the objective of resolving the dispute. While the 21st round of talks did not yield any breakthrough indications, both parties agreed to uphold “peace and tranquility” on the ground and sustain dialogue regarding the path forward. The subsequent round of military discussions is anticipated to take place in the near future.

In January, Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande remarked that the situation along the LAC in eastern Ladakh remains “stable” yet “sensitive.” He emphasized that Indian troops are sustaining a “very high state” of operational readiness to handle any potential developments effectively. General Pande also noted that India and China are engaged in discussions at both military and diplomatic levels, aiming to restore the “status quo ante” that prevailed in mid-2020.

The standoff along the eastern Ladakh border began on May 5, 2020, subsequent to a violent confrontation in the Pangong Lake region. Through a series of military and diplomatic discussions, both parties successfully concluded the disengagement process at various friction points, encompassing the north and south banks of the Pangong Lake as well as the Gogra area.

</excerpt>

Four years into the face-to-face military confrontation in eastern Ladakh, China continues to intensify its military presence and infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Despite sporadic disengagements, recent satellite imagery and intelligence reports reveal persistent Chinese activity across all sectors of the 3,488-km border from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.

Infrastructure Development

China has been relentlessly constructing border infrastructure, including roads and dual-use ‘Xiaokang’ villages, strengthening military positions, deploying additional aircraft, and enhancing logistical support in areas facing India. Recent developments include the completion of a strategic road from Samzungling to Galwan Valley, providing a shorter route for troop mobilization. Additionally, buffer zones created after previous clashes have not halted China’s efforts to fortify its positions.

Strategic Moves

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has strategically focused on enhancing last-mile connectivity to forward positions through roads, bridges, tunnels, and helipads. It has also bolstered its military capability with new bunkers, camps, underground shelters, artillery positions, radar sites, and ammunition dumps along the LAC, especially in disputed areas like Pangong Tso, the Kailash range, and Gogra-Hot Springs.

Eastern Sector Focus

The eastern sector, including regions like Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh and Naku La in north Sikkim, has witnessed increased PLA activity. China’s efforts extend to offsetting air combat disadvantages due to high-altitude terrain by deploying additional fighters, bombers, reconnaissance aircraft, and drones, supported by upgraded airfields with extended runways and advanced facilities.

Dual-Use Villages and Military Deployments

China’s strategy includes the construction of dual-use ‘Xiaokang’ border villages, reinforcing military positions while asserting territorial claims. This has led to the establishment of 628 such villages along the Tibetan Autonomous Region border with India and Bhutan. Despite potential disengagements at persisting face-off sites, PLA’s forward deployments along the LAC remain substantial and enduring.

Implications and Response

India has responded with ‘mirror military deployments’ and significant infrastructure development along its frontier. However, the continuous buildup by China underscores the enduring nature of the border standoff and the complex strategic dynamics at play.

As tensions persist along the India-China border, the ongoing military buildup by China highlights the challenges in achieving lasting peace and resolution in the region. Both countries’ strategic moves and countermeasures continue to shape the evolving interactions of this longstanding confrontation.

</excerpt>

The Congress took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, highlighting the park’s history and development under Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi’s administrations. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posed four questions to PM Modi regarding various issues in the northeastern region during his visit to Assam.

Ramesh questioned PM Modi about the India-China border situation, the Manipur crisis, the situation in eastern Nagaland, and the resurgence of separatist groups in Assam. He criticized PM Modi for allegedly giving a clean chit to China during the India-China border standoff in 2020, accusing him of failing to take action against Chinese aggression.

Regarding the Manipur crisis, Ramesh criticized PM Modi for not visiting Manipur or engaging with the Chief Minister and political parties of the state to address the ethnic strife. He also highlighted the declaration of a “public emergency” by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) in eastern Nagaland and criticized the government for being “missing in action” in addressing the situation.

Ramesh further questioned the government’s response to the abduction of three labourers by the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) in Assam in December 2023, citing a “disturbing re-emergence of separatist groups” in the region. He criticized the government for allegedly not taking action against these groups.

The Congress leader’s remarks were made on social media platform X during PM Modi’s two-day visit to Assam, which began on Friday.

The Indian Air Force is all set to carry out a two-day consolidated training exercise in the Northeast, officials said.

The exercise is taking place at a time when a face-off between Indian and Chinese troops at the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh took place on December 9 along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) preceded by attempts to violate air space on many occasions. “Indian Air Force is scheduled to carry out a consolidated training exercise this week in the eastern sector where the readiness of the aircraft would be checked. The training exercise has been planned much in advance,” the sources said.

“In the last few weeks, there have been two to three occasions where our fighter jets had to be scrambled to tackle the Chinese drones moving towards our positions on the LAC. The Su-30MKI jets had to be scrambled to tackle the air violation threat,” sources said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Parliament said that attempts by Chinese troops to transgress the LAC in the Yangtse area of Tawang Sector and unilaterally change the status quo were contested by Indian troops in a firm and resolute manner. “The Indian Army bravely prevented the PLA from transgressing into our territory and compelled them to return to their posts,” the minister said.

As stated by defence sources, before the clash in the Yangtse area that Chinese drones had moved very aggressively towards the Indian positions on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh forcing the Indian Air Force to scramble its Su-30MKI fighter jets aircraft in the region.

On December 13, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops tried to transgress the Line of Actual Control in the Yangtse area of Arunachal Pradesh Tawang Sector and unilaterally change the status quo but they went back to their locations due to timely intervention of Indian military commanders.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to address the parliament on Tawang skirmish in Lok Sabha at 12 pm and in Rajya Sabha at 2 pm. Meanhile Rajnath Singh held a high level meeting with CDS General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Manj Pande and NSA Ajit Doval after reports of clash between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang sector emerged.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed congress in context of the Rajiv Gandhi foundation. Shah further stated that as long as there is Modi and BJP government in the country, no one can take even an inch of India’s land. While lauding the valour of Indian Army, shah said that the Indian troops deployed in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang sector on December 9 gave a befitting response to the Chinese troops . Meanwhile several opposition leaders have submitted notices in Parliament on the clash.

Before the recent clash between India and China in the Yangtse area near Tawang, Chinese drones had moved very aggressively towards the Indian positions on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh forcing the Indian Air Force to scramble its fighter aircrafts deployed in the region.

The Chinese military has been behaving aggressively over issues in the Yangtse in the vicinity of the Holydip and Parikrama area on the LAC where the Chinese side has been opposing Indian positions.

“In the last few weeks, there have been two to three occasions where our fighter jets had to be scrambled to tackle the Chinese drones moving towards our positions on the LAC. The Su-30MKI jets had to be scrambled to tackle the air violation threat,” said defence sources.

The Indian Air Force keeps a close watch on Chinese drone activities along the LAC in the northeast. The actions have to be taken as the drones or any aircraft cannot be allowed to violate the airspace, they said.

The sources said if the drones fly parallel to the LAC, the Indian side does not have any issues with it but if the aircrafts or drones are picked up by radars flying towards Indian Territory, necessary actions have to be taken to prevent any violation, they said.
