Cocaine Hidden in Shoes from Delhi Seized in Hyderabad

A serious drug peddling racket with an international connection has been busted by Hyderabad police, wherein cocaine stashed away in sandal heels, 1.6 grams of ‘ecstasy’ tablets, and a restaurant owner who procured these drugs from Delhi via a courier service were seized.

The probe started when the Cyberabad Narcotics Police Station had acted on a tip and picked up a restaurant owner, who was suspected to be a major consumer and distributor, on July 7. In the raid, officials seized 10 grams of cocaine, 3.2 grams of ‘OG Kush’, and 1.6 grams of ‘ecstasy’ pills.

What caught the special interest of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) was the manner in which the drugs were smuggled. The cocaine was hidden in the hollow heel of a sandal, which was then placed in a pink cardboard box and shipped out of New Delhi under the name “Fatima,” reports PTI.

The arrested individual has been named as 34-year-old Surya Annamaneni, an entrepreneur whose arrest has apparently uncovered a far-reaching, transnational drug ring. The ring entails foreign suppliers, patrons at high-end pubs, drugs shipped through courier, and payments conducted through electronic means, EAGLE reported in a statement.

Further searches by EAGLE of Annamaneni’s Scorpio SUV led to the seizure of the narcotics. It was found that Shree Maruthi Courier was used to transport the parcel containing the concealed sandals, as per NDTV reports.

Who is Surya Annamaneni?

Annamaneni, who is at the epicenter of this big drug haul, is a graduate in engineering and MBA who lives in Kompally and runs a restaurant called ‘Malnadu Kitchen’. Prior to opening his hospitality business in Hyderabad, he worked as a sales manager in Bengaluru in 2020.

During interrogation after his arrest, he admitted to consuming and selling illicit drugs as well as disclosing major sources of his supply, police said.

Nigerian Connection and Operations

is said to have revealed to officials that his chain involved Indian middlemen and some Nigerian traffickers who were based in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Goa. Nick, Jerry, Dezmond, Stanley, and Prince were the identified Nigerians.

He allegedly informed police that he ordered cocaine and MDMA regularly from a Nigerian source, transferring money through bank accounts offered by the traffickers, PTI said. To prevent interception, the drugs were hidden in ordinary consumer items and mailed using courier companies.

According to the police, transactions included ₹1.39 lakh moved through a business linked to Annamaneni’s restaurant, along with another ₹41,000 withdrawn in cash. After arrival, the narcotics were typically stored in either Annamaneni’s vehicle or his restaurant premises before reaching customers.

Between 2021 and 2025, the accused admitted to purchasing cocaine roughly 20 times, often consuming it at premium pubs in Hyderabad.

He is currently charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and has been remanded to judicial custody.

On Saturday, the Hyderabad office of Mahaa News was attacked violently by a mob of unidentified persons, in what seems to be a politically charged incident. The attackers were said to be abetted by eyewitnesses who claimed that they were workers of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and party leader K.T. Rama Rao’s supporters. The mob, armed with sticks, stones, and knives, stormed the building and inflicted massive damage.

The attackers were said to have desecrated cars parked outside the building before they went into the newsroom, where they destroyed computers, furniture, and other office material. A number of employees were injured in the mayhem and were rushed to nearby hospitals to receive treatment. The overall magnitude of the destruction is yet to be determined, but initial estimates indicate heavy losses, both in terms of infrastructure and team morale.

Mahaa News, which has been known for its critical Telangana politics reporting, strongly denounced the attack. One of its senior editors called it “an assault on press freedom and democratic values,” and pledged not to be silenced by intimidation.

The attack has brought widespread political and popular condemnation. Leaders of the Congress party, including Telangana Deputy Chief Minister, went to the Mahaa News office to express support. They characterized the attack as an attempt to silence independent journalism and demanded immediate arrests of the perpetrators.

The airline clarified, “Cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout. As a precautionary measure, the pilots decided to return to Hyderabad. The aircraft landed safely, and passengers were deplaned normally. The aircraft did not make an emergency landing.”

The airline promptly arranged an alternate aircraft to carry passengers to Tirupati. Although no emergency landing occurred, the swift return was a precautionary step to avoid any potential risk.

One of the most recent and worst Hyderabad fire tragedies, an enormous fire in a mixed complex building in Gulzar Houz took the lives of at least 17 people. The fire, which started around 5:30 am when the majority of the residents were asleep, spread rapidly from the ground floor, which was reportedly used for commercial activities, to the remaining building. Thick smoke filled the building, resulting in fatal asphyxiation for numerous residents, initial reports by the fire department suggested.

Ten injured residents were taken to surrounding medical centers such as DRDO Hospital, Osmania General Hospital, and a private hospital. The fire started in a pearl shop on the ground floor which also had a family dwelling on the first floor.

Union Minister and BJP president of Telangana G Kishan Reddy explained that a short circuit was the reason behind the fire. “It has resulted in many deaths in the accident. A few are injured. I am not accusing anyone, but as Hyderabad is a fast-growing city, the police, municipal, fire, and electricity departments have to be strengthened,” he said.

The fire has happened only a few days after a fire erupted in Begum Bazar, just 2 km from Gulzar Houz. Fortunately, all eight of the residents in that instance were able to get out safely.

For putting out the blaze, 11 tenders of different stations such as Langar Houz, Moghalpura, Gowliguda, Rajendra Nagar, Gandhi Outpost, and Salarjung Museum were dispatched. Two rescue tenders, a Bronto Skylift, three water tenders, and a firefighting robot also took part in the operation. Emergency teams are still present on the site as the investigation into the origins of the fire is ongoing.

Hyderabad Doctor Caught After Ordering ₹5 Lakh Worth of Cocaine via WhatsApp

A doctor from Hyderabad was arrested on suspicion of buying ₹5 lakh worth of cocaine over WhatsApp, the police discovered. Namrata Chigurupati, the erstwhile CEO of Omega Hospitals, was apprehended when she accepted a courier-delivered package with the banned drug from a supplier based in Mumbai.

Doctor Caught Receiving Cocaine Delivery

Chigurupati, who had resigned from her job at Omega Hospitals half a year earlier, was arrested together with Balakrishna, Vansh Dhakkar’s accomplice in Mumbai. Police had intercepted the delivery during its handover to her at Rayadurgam in Hyderabad.

“A doctor, Namrata, had purchased drugs from Vansh in Mumbai, who was her acquaintance. One Balakrishna then appeared to supply (the drugs) and delivered them to her at Rayadurgam,” said senior police officer Venkanna.

Transaction Done Online, Drugs Seized

Police say that the 34-year-old physician called Dhakkar over WhatsApp and ordered cocaine for ₹5 lakh. She paid through an online transfer. Based on a tip-off, officials tracked and arrested Chigurupati and Balakrishna while handing over.

“Police traced and arrested them. Rs 10,000 in cash, 53 grams of cocaine and two mobile phones were recovered from them,” added officer Venkanna.

Confession Unveils ₹70 Lakh Used on Drugs

During the questioning, Chigurupati allegedly admitted to spending approximately ₹70 lakh on drugs over a period of time. Cases under appropriate sections of the law have been filed by authorities, and both the accused have been remanded to judicial custody, confirmed police.

The incident comes in the wake of a rising issue of drug procurement through social media and messaging platforms, with the police stepping up efforts to shut down such operations.

It was introduced in 2021, and its success made it possible for two additional centers to be established in Pune and Thane. But it is not clear whether the clinics can sustain themselves due to the freezing of funds.

As of January 2025, the Hyderabad clinic had seven transgender staff members and treated 150–200 LGBTQIA+ clients per month, reports The Hindu. Its sudden closure has deprived the staff of jobs and denied a marginalized population its vital healthcare support.

Hyderabad: Fire Erupts On Building’s 9th Floor, No Casualties Reported

A fire broke out in a flat on the 9th floor of a multi-storey building in Hyderabad’s Kondapur on Tuesday afternoon, officials reported.

KTR Booked Over ₹45-Crore Allocation To Hold Formula E Race In Hyderabad

Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a case on Thursday against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), son of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, over alleged irregularities in bringing the Formula E car racing event to Hyderabad in February last year.

The case names KTR as the primary accused, with former Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) principal secretary Arvind Kumar listed as the second accused and former Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) chief engineer B.L.N. Reddy as the third accused. The allegations pertain to financial mismanagement and payments made when KTR served as the state’s MAUD minister, spearheading efforts to bring the Formula E race to Hyderabad.

According to the FIR, KTR authorized payments without Cabinet clearance, enabling Arvind Kumar to proceed with the transactions. The ACB alleged that HMDA transferred ₹45 crore in two installments to the Formula E Organisers (FEO), violating RBI guidelines. The RBI subsequently imposed an ₹8 crore fine on the Telangana government for unauthorized transactions, which was later paid by the Congress government after it assumed power late last year. The FIR stated that an investigation into the RBI fine uncovered financial irregularities in organizing the event, prompting the ACB to launch its probe.

The FIR was filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC sections 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). The case was initiated after Governor Jishnu Dev Varma granted permission to prosecute KTR.

On Wednesday, KTR wrote to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, suggesting that the Formula E case be discussed in the Legislative Assembly to inform the people of Telangana about what “actually happened.” After assuming office in December 2023, CM Revanth Reddy and Congress ministers alleged corruption in organizing the Formula E race.

“One main allegation is that K.T. Rama Rao did not seek the necessary approvals from the Cabinet. The money was transferred to accounts of individuals and entities, including one foreign firm, not connected with organizing the race. Telangana Assembly elections had been announced, and the Model Code of Conduct was in force. The second agreement to hold the race was made without the permission of the Election Commission,” an official said.

KTR denied any wrongdoing, stating that the decision to host the race aimed to promote Hyderabad globally. Late in 2022, the Municipal Administration signed an agreement with FEO and Ace Nxt Gen Pvt Ltd to host Formula E seasons 9 through 12. The ninth season took place in Hyderabad on February 10–11, 2023. According to the ACB, Ace Nxt Gen withdrew after the ninth season. However, when FEO expressed interest in continuing with the 10th season, Arvind Kumar authorized transferring ₹45 crore to FEO in Pounds Sterling.

The FIR highlighted that Arvind Kumar, in response to a notice from the Congress government, stated that he authorized the transfers based on approval from the competent authority, which he identified as then MAUD minister KTR.

Senior BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao criticized the FIR, claiming KTR was being targeted for enhancing Hyderabad’s global image.

On the allegations, KTR maintained that all actions were legal. “I am willing to go to jail if anything illegal is found. I will use the jail time to stay fit and plan a padayatra,” he said. KTR explained that the BRS government competed with cities like Seoul and Cape Town to host the race. He added that while a tripartite agreement was made between the state government, Greenko, and Ace Nxt Gen for the ninth season, Ace withdrew for the next season due to losses. Upon learning this, KTR instructed HMDA commissioner Kumar to transfer funds to FEO while searching for other sponsors. “I gave the instructions as vice-president of HMDA. The HMDA operates independently and does not need approval from the Finance Department or Cabinet,” he said.

‘Pushpa 2’ Screening: Woman Dies, Son Injured in Stampede in Hyderabad

A 35-year-old woman was killed and her nine-year-old son seriously injured in a stampede that occurred at the premiere of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ at a Hyderabad theatre on Wednesday evening. The stampede happened at the Sandhya Theatre, which witnessed a huge crowd gathering to catch a glimpse of the lead actor of the film, Allu Arjun.

Chaos erupted when fans surged to see Arjun, who had arrived with music director Devi Sri Prasad for the screening. The crowd pressure caused the main gate of the theatre to collapse. Despite police efforts to control the mob through a lathi charge, the stampede resulted in the death of the woman. Her son was rushed to a private hospital and is undergoing treatment.

RIVER MUSI IS BARELY NOTICEABLE IN MODERN-DAY Hyderabad. There is little water running through it and construction has taken over much of the riverside. The floodplains have been encroached upon, and untreated waste flows into the river at many points. Its bridges, both old and new, are no longer the architectural marvels they once were but are now sites of traffic jams.
During the monsoons, the river periodically comes up in public discourse when rising water levels can lead to local flooding, as had happened in October 2020, July 2022 and July 2023. Yet, the story of Hyderabad remains inextricably linked with the fortunes of this river, particularly with the 1908 flood and its aftermath.
Today, River Musi is a pale shadow of its past. At the beginning of the twentieth century, it flowed through the middle of the city, bisecting it. On its south bank was the walled city housing the palaces of the Nizam as well as residences of principal nobles, while on the north bank was the British enclave with the imposing Residency building, British administrative offices and the Residency Bazaar surrounding it. A few miles away further north was the cantonment in Secunderabad. Between the Residency and the cantonment was the sparsely inhabited Chaderghat suburb. The total population of Hyderabad and the suburb was less than half a million at the beginning of the twentieth century. The 1908 flood changed the urban geography, the centre of political power and the face of the city for ever.
It was not uncommon for River Musi to be in flood, but the most devastating of floods occurred on 28 September 1908. The river originates in the Anantagiri Hills, flows eastwards to pass through the city and then moves into Nalgonda where it joins River Krishna. River Musi has its tributary, Isi or Esi, which is near the Golconda Fort. On the fateful night, the water level rose so dramatically that it submerged the high arches of the Purana Pul and washed away a part of the Afzal Gunj bridge (Naya Pul). The south bank of the river had been artificially raised to prevent flooding while the north bank was generally low-lying. This resulted in the inundation of several areas on the north bank—Begum Bazaar, Kolsawadi, Dhoolpet, Dal Mandi, Chudi Bazaar, Osman Shahi, Muktair Pura and so on. Among the south bank areas that were affected were Char Mahal, Petla Burj, Ghasimiya Bazaar, Mehboob Shahi, Anjeer Bagh and so on.
Hundreds of houses either collapsed or got damaged, and thousands of people were swept away by the gushing waters or got buried under collapsing structures. Some two thousand people were washed away in Kolsawadi alone. Water also breached the Residency
area. All one could see on either side of the river were ‘fallen houses,
collapsed roofs, bare walls and a tangled mass of trees, logs, rafters and shrubbery’ while human corpses and carcasses of animals were strewn everywhere.People climbed atop trees and high buildings to save themselves. One such tree still stands in Kolsawadi with a plaque commemorating its life-saving role. Boats were requisitioned from the Boat Club and rafts were made by fastening empty cans to cots.
Mir Mahbub Ali Khan (Mahbub Pasha), who was the reigning Nizam at that time, supervised rescue and relief operations. The acting British Resident Michael O’Dwyer—who was later to gain notoriety for endorsing the Jallianwala Bagh massacre as the governor of Punjab—sought an audience with the Nizam to offer help. Religious saints and astrologers were consulted. Mahbub Pasha was known to patronise many of them, providing monthly bursaries and supporting the performance of religious rituals of Hindu priests.
According to one account, a word was sent to a priest-astrologer, Jhoomar Lal Tiwari, on how to ‘tame’ the river in this hour of calamity. Tiwari advised the Nizam to appease Muchkunda (another name for Musi) which, according to Hindu beliefs, is an incarnation of the goddess Bhawani.A Marwari priest who had migrated from Kuchera ( Jodhpur State) to Hyderabad around 1875, Tiwari lived in a haveli of a banker-merchant in Mahbub Ganj, the grain market named after the Nizam.
The river banks had religious and spiritual connections for both Hindus and Muslims. They were dotted with temples, maths, mosques, mazaars and cremation grounds. Many turned to prayers after the flood because they believed it was an ‘act of god’. Mahbub Pasha, eager to alleviate the sufferings of his people, heeded the advice of the Hindu priest and reached the banks of the swollen river near the Purana Pul to perform the puja. He entered the river waters and worshipped the ‘angry goddess’, pleading with her with folded hands to retreat. A golden tray was prepared with ‘a sari, pearls, yellow rice, condiments, red kumkum powder, two coconuts encased in gold and silver and a small oil lamp’ for the special prayers. According to several accounts, the floodwater began to recede after the Nizam made the offering to the river goddess.
The flood may have been an act of god, as believed by people in Hyderabad, or a combined effect of meteorological and hydrological factors, but the story of a Muslim ruler following the Hindu tradition of worshipping a holy river has remained ingrained in the collective memory of generations of Hyderabadis. It is an eloquent expression of syncretic culture—often called the Ganga–Jamuni tehzeeb—which is considered the soul of Hyderabad.
The episode is cited as an example of goodwill between the Hindus and Muslims prevailing in Hyderabad over centuries, in general, and during the rule of Mahbub Pasha, in particular.
An emergency meeting of high officials was convened on 29 September by Faridoon Jung Bahadur, the Nizam’s political secretary, at his palace in Saifabad. In attendance were Akbar Hydari, Maj. Mahir-ud-Dowla Bahadur, Fazil Mooraj, Aziz Mirza, Sohrabji Jamsehdji and Col. Shore who was deputed by O’Dwyer. Since the flood had caused damage to Afzal Gunj Hospital, medical relief was organised at Public Gardens for men and at Fateh Maidan Pavilion for women.
Kitchen committees were formed to set up separate community kitchens for Mohammedans and Hindus, and given a budget of Rs 5,000 each.8 The Military Secretary and City Kotwal were told to make arrangements for the removal of corpses from the debris and to shift the injured to hospitals.
Col. Shore was tasked with arranging the distribution of ‘quinine pills of five grains each’ through the city police. A Ladies’ Committee was constituted to provide relief to distressed pardanashin (veiled) women, with Ameena Hydari as secretary and Sarojini Naidu as joint secretary.9
Along with relief operations, the administration moved swiftly to plan the reconstruction of the flood-ravaged city and take long-term measures on scientific lines for protection from future floods. During a recent inspection of a Zomato warehouse in Hyderabad, food safety officials discovered 18 kilograms of button mushrooms labeled with a packing date of October 30, 2024, despite the inspection taking place on October 29, according to an NDTV report.

The incident occurred at Zomato’s Hyperpure warehouse located in Kukatpally, which operates as a Food Business Operator (FBO) licensed by the state. FBOs are responsible for supplying various products, including fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, gourmet foods, packaging materials, and kitchen equipment, to hotels, restaurants, and caterers.

Labeling products with a “future packing date” constitutes a violation of food safety regulations. This discovery coincides with officials uncovering significant food safety issues at sweet shops, a momo outlet, and shawarma units in the area, following health complaints in the lead-up to Diwali.

Inspectors also noted the presence of house flies inside the warehouse and pointed out that it lacked a proper insect-proof screen. Additionally, several food handlers were found not wearing hair caps and aprons, raising further concerns about hygiene.

Despite holding the necessary license, the warehouse had medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records. Zomato has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

These findings follow a raid by a task force in June at a Blinkit warehouse (owned by Zomato) in Devar Yamjal, located in the Medchal Malkajgiri District near Hyderabad, where officials uncovered unhygienic conditions, expired products, and potentially infested food items, among other issues.

In response to the recent findings, Blinkit stated, “We take safety and hygiene standards very seriously. We are closely working with our warehouse partner and the Food Safety Department to implement corrective actions from the findings.”

Following a complaint from Reshma’s family, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) food safety team and Banjara Hills police located the vendor in Chintal Basti, Khairatabad. Hyderabad Man Detained For Halting Traffic And Tossing Cash Into The Air | Watch

A Hyderabad man’s attempt at a social media stunt ended with police intervention after he tossed cash into the air on a busy road. The act, which caused traffic disruption, drew widespread criticism online and caught the attention of authorities, leading to his detention.

Police Action

The Times of India (TOI) reported that the man, identified as Kurapati Vamshi, aged 23 and known as Harsha on Instagram, was arrested after a video of the incident went viral. The police placed him in 14-day judicial custody. ACP Shiva Bhaskar of the Kukatpally division stated, “Suo motu cases were registered against the accused at KPHB, Kukatpally, and Sanath Nagar police stations of Cyberabad. He has been charged with creating a nuisance on the road, rash and negligent acts, and obstruction of traffic movement.”

A Hyderabad-based YouTuber, known as Power Harsha, recently faced severe backlash after causing chaos by throwing fistfuls of cash onto a busy road in the city. His stunt led to significant traffic disruptions as people scrambled to collect the banknotes, bringing vehicles to a standstill.

According to an NDTV report, the YouTuber, who goes by the online handle “its_me_power,” shared several videos on social media showcasing his disruptive behavior. In one video, Harsha is seen riding pillion on a motorcycle while his companion navigates through a crowded market. As they moved through the area, Harsha tossed a wad of cash into the air, instantly causing chaos as pedestrians and motorists alike rushed to grab the money.

It’s official: actors Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala are engaged! The couple celebrated their engagement with a private ceremony in Hyderabad, attended by their families and close friends.

Veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, Naga Chaitanya’s father, shared the news on his X account, posting pictures from the engagement. He wrote, “We are thrilled to announce the engagement of our son, Naga Chaitanya, to Sobhita Dhulipala, which took place this morning at 9:42 a.m.! We are overjoyed to welcome her into our family. Congratulations to the happy couple! Wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness. God bless! 8.8.8 A beginning of infinite love Sobhitad chayakkineni.”

For the special occasion, Naga Chaitanya wore a traditional white kurta-pajama paired with a matching dupatta, while Sobhita Dhulipala looked stunning in a peach-hued saree. She opted for a subtle makeup look and styled her hair in a bun adorned with flowers.

Naga Chaitanya was previously married to actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. They announced their separation in October 2021 via a joint social media statement, requesting privacy during their difficult time. Hyderabad: Physiotherapist Murders Wife & Kids For Girlfriend, Arrested After 45 Days

An extramarital affair gone rogue!! a physiotherapist from Hyderabad murders his wife and his young daughters on a Girlfriend’s order.

Following the heinous crime, the 32-year-old Boda Praveen absconded for 45 days and lived with his ladylove for several days, until caught by the police.

Earlier On May 28, the 32-year-old physiotherapist murdered his wife Kumari (29) and his young daughters Krishika (5) and Kritika (3) on his girlfriend Soni Francis’s order.

Later, he displayed this incident as a car accident. The man treacherously murdered his wife by giving huge dose of anaesthetic injection. After that, he murdered the daughters in car’s front seat by blocking their nose and mouths. As a result, they died of suffocation.

How Was He Caught?

Talking about this case with News18, SHO of Raghunathapalem Police station Khammam District revealed, that they suspected the husband, when they noticed needle marks in Kumari’s body.

Notably, no other form of injury was found in both wife & kids’s body. Following the postmortem and sending mortal remains to family members. They came to the crime spot and inspected the whole car.

However, they found the syringe. Despite being empty, they treated this needle as a clue.

Afterward, the police submitted the syringe to forensic laboratory for further probe. Later, when the officials received the forensic report of the syringe, they promptly detained the man from hyderabad’s Attapur area.

As for Parveen, for 45 days, he continued to work at Germanten Hospital and lived a normal life with his girlfriend Soni Francis at her rented house. But eventually, the police caught the culprit.

Later talking about Praveen, SHO said ‘Praveen felt he was completely safe as we didn’t even call him for almost 45 days. He was under the impression that he was out of the case as we initially registered it as an accident case. As soon as we received the forensic report of the syringe, we arrested him in the Attapur area of Hyderabad. Everything had come out in our investigation.’

Currently within 48 days of the incident and after the arrest, Praveen has been sent to judicial remand.
