The hospital was allegedly asking for more money to treat him, stating his condition had deteriorated.

The patient, who was admitted to Geeta Devi Hospital, was reportedly used in an extortion bid by the hospital staff who deceived his wife regarding his health. At first, she was told that her husband was critical and required instant medical attention. Unable to lose him, she somehow managed to scrape together Rs. 50,000 and paid the amount in the hospital.

Subsequently, the hospital reportedly informed her that her husband’s condition had further worsened and that he had fallen into a coma. They asked for another Rs. 1 lakh for his treatment. But before she could go ahead with the payment, there was a twist of fate, the so-called ‘comatose’ man broke free from the ICU, walked out onto the streets in his shorts with a nasal tube still in place, and exposed the so-called scam.

The whole thing was recorded on video, and soon it became viral on social media, angering people. Users called for a proper probe into the case.

On Wednesday, Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra instructed all states and Union Territories (UTs) to submit an action report by September 10 on the implementation of security measures for doctors and healthcare workers. This directive follows a recent Supreme Court order emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced safety for medical professionals nationwide.

In a letter to chief secretaries and police directors of all states and UTs, Chandra expressed appreciation for their participation in a video conference held on August 28. This conference addressed the need for a secure working environment in medical institutions following the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Key security measures outlined include identifying high-risk hospitals, conducting security audits, installing CCTV surveillance, performing background checks, and establishing bereavement protocols. States and UTs are advised to prioritize hospitals with high patient volumes for security upgrades. Regular security audits should be carried out in coordination with local health and police authorities to improve existing measures.

Special focus is recommended for areas vulnerable to security breaches, such as emergency rooms, triage areas, ICUs, and labor rooms. Chandra emphasized the importance of proper training and the establishment of bereavement protocols to help healthcare workers manage intense and emotional situations.

Chandra noted that several states have already started implementing measures based on previous recommendations from August 23, with some even adopting additional security enhancements beyond the ministry’s suggestions.

In a significant move towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Bhajan Lal Sharma, inaugurated the newly built Sant Shri Dularam Kularia Primary Health Center (PHC) in Molwas Silwa village of Nokha block of Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Sunday, 28^th July.

Constructed by Narsi Kularia, CMD of Interior Infrastructure Mumbai and his group director Jagdish Kularia in memory of their father, Sant Shri Dularam Kularia, the Narsi family officially handed over the hospital to the state government, aiming to serve the community and promote social welfare.

Delhi Hospital Shooting: 32 Year Old Patient Killed By Teen Attacker

A tragic incident unfolded at GTB Hospital in Shahdara on Sunday, where a 32-year-old patient, Riyazuddin, was fatally shot inside a hospital ward. The victim’s family believes this was a case of mistaken identity, alleging that the intended target was a known history-sheeter who was admitted to the same ward.

Riyazuddin, a laborer residing in Sriram Nagar, Khajuri Khas, had been receiving treatment for an abdominal infection since June 23. The shooting occurred around 4 pm, with the suspect, an 18-year-old youth, entering ward number 24 and firing at least two shots at Riyazuddin while he was being attended to by a nurse.

According to Raisuddin, the victim’s brother, the suspect fired additional rounds as people began to gather, then locked the ward door from the outside and fled the scene. At the time of the attack, Riyazuddin’s elder sister, Taranum, was also present in the ward. Over 20 people, including patients and hospital staff, were on the fourth floor where the incident occurred.

Police were alerted to the shooting at 4:20 pm and quickly dispatched several teams and senior officers to the hospital. Faheem, Riyazuddin’s younger brother, claimed that the real target was a man named Waseem, who had been shot in June and was previously admitted to Riyazuddin’s ward. Waseem was later transferred to another ward, and the shooter may have mistakenly targeted Riyazuddin, thinking he was Waseem.

Waseem, 33, involved in 17 criminal cases, was a member of the Hashim Baba gang. He and his associate Asif were attacked near Shaitan Chowk on June 12, with multiple rounds fired, also injuring two homeless men.

Police are investigating the family’s claims of mistaken identity and other potential motives, such as gang rivalry or personal vendetta. “At GTB Enclave police station the case has been registered. We believe at least three or four individuals were involved. Two likely conducted reconnaissance and assigned the 18-year-old to carry out the shooting,” an officer stated. Authorities suspect two accomplices stood outside the ward during the attack.

The family has criticized the lack of security at the Delhi government-run hospital during the shooting. Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj condemned the negligence and assured that those responsible would face consequences, with a review of security measures in all hospitals.

In response to the incident, the Residents’ Doctors Association of GTB Hospital announced an indefinite strike starting Monday, protesting the inadequate safety measures. Emergency services will remain operational during the strike.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declined to overturn a Madras High Court decision allowing Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji to be transferred to a private hospital in Chennai and considering a habeas corpus plea brought against his arrest.The hearing scheduled for June 22 before the High Court was postponed by a vacation bench of Justices Surya Kant and MM Sundresh. The High Court judgement was challenged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the bench postponed the case to July 4. ED filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, arguing that the Madras High Court erred in granting Balaji’s wife’s habeas corpus request.

“High Court is yet to render its final option on habeas corpus petition and the exclusion of period of treatment undergone by the detenue (Balaji) from the period of custodial interrogation and since both these issues are likely to be examined by the High Court tomorrow or thereafter, we deem it appropriate to post this SLP for further hearing on next date,” the top court stated in its order.

The bench also said that case pending in the top court shall not be taken as a ground to adjourn the matter by the High Court. It said that observations made by the High Court or any observation made by the apex court shall have no bearing on the case, the order added.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for Enforcement Directorate told the bench that High Court order sets a wrong precedent.

ED moves SC against HC ruling allowing TN Minister’s move to private hospital

The Enforcement Directorate has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Madras High Court’s decision allowing Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji to be transferred from a government hospital to a private hospital in Chennai. The Supreme Court will hear the case on 21 June.

After being transferred to Kauvery Hospital, doctors have recommended bypass surgery for Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji. The Madras High Court allowed the transfer based on a petition filed by his wife, Megala, who accused the ED of not following proper arrest procedures. Balaji was arrested in connection with a money laundering case.

The ECIR was registered on the basis of three FIRs booked against him by the local police in 2018 for his alleged involvement in a cash-for-job case when he was the Transport Minister in Jayalalithaa’s Cabinet in 2015.The charges date back to his tenure as transport minister during the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government from 2011 to 2015.He joined the DMK in December 2018 and assumed office as the Electricity Minister after the party came to power in May 2021.

Wedding bus crash : 10 killed in Australia, driver arrested

According to authorities, the 58-year-old driver of the wedding party bus was detained after an accident that left up to 10 people dead in Australia’s Hunter wine region, north of Sydney.

Images on television showed the white coach, which was carrying guests to a neighbouring winery wedding, laying on its side after toppling late on Sunday night.Twelve emergency personnel were present, their cars’ coloured lights blazing in the foggy night, and they were all wearing high visibility yellow vests.

Multiple casualties are expected to rise after a bus crash in which 25 passengers were rushed to the hospital, two of whom were airlifted. The bus remains overturned with potential trapped individuals underneath. No children were involved. The coach driver underwent testing and is currently held at a nearby police station. Investigations into the accident are underway by New South Wales Police.

Delhi CM Kejriwal meets ailing AAP leader Satyendar Jain in hospital

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday met Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) hospital and called him a “brave man and hero”.

Sharing pictures of his meeting with Satyendar Jain at LNJP hospital, Kejriwal tweeted, “Met the brave man. The hero”.

Jailed AAP leader Satyendar Jain was shifted to LNJP hospital after he slipped and fell in the bathroom at Delhi’s Tihar on Thursday.

Jain, who has been detained in Tihar Jail since last year, was earlier admitted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital with minor injuries.

After Jain was injured in Tihar Jail earlier on Thursday, CM Kejriwal said, “God is watching all.”

“The person who was working day and night to provide good treatment and good health to the public—today a dictator is bent on killing that good person. That dictator has only one thought: to finish everyone. He only wants to see himself. God is watching all, He will do justice to all,” the Delhi CM tweeted in Hindi.

“I pray to God for Satyendra ji’s speedy recovery. May God give them the strength to fight against these adverse circumstances,” he tweeted.

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Jain on 30 May last year under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act ((PMLA).

55-year-old man killed in Delhi

71-year-old dragged by scooter on Bengaluru street; police registered case

In a horrific incident, a 71-year-old elderly man was dragged by a scooter across a street in Bengaluru’s Magadi on Tuesday, and police have registered a case against the accused.

Earlier, on social media, the video of the incident also went viral, in which the accused, who was on a scooter, allegedly hit the man on a four-wheeler.

Later, when the accused was questioned, he tried to escape, and during that time, the driver got hold of the scooter.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the accused as Sahil (25) in a report in which it was revealed the four-wheeler driver was seen dragging behind the scooter.

“The scooter rider tried to escape and dragged the four-wheeler driver from Magadi Road toll gate to Hosahalli metro station,” a user alleged posted on Twitter.

However, when the video went viral, the police reacted quickly and apprehended the accused scooter rider.

“The victim identified as Muttappa (71), a native of Vijayapur district, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Govindaraj Nagar police have apprehended the two-wheeler driver,” a senior official said.

“We are further looking into the incident,” senior official added.

Sonia Gandhi admitted to Delhi’s Ganga Ram hospital due to respiratory issues

Sonia Gandhi, a former Congress President, has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, according to a PTI report on Wednesday. Her daughter and the grand old party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accompanied her to the hospital, the report said.

The PTI report said that Gandhi has been suffering from a respiratory infection. They said that Gandhi has been unwell since Tuesday which is why her son and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka had returned to Delhi after walking seven kilometres in the party’s ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. The yatra entered its Uttar Pradesh leg on Tuesday evening.

Siddaramaiah, a Congress leader and a former chief minister of Karnataka, expressed remorse for Gandhi’s hospitalisation and best wishes for a “speedy recovery and healthy return.”

3 killed, 13 injured in a head-on collision
