BSF Seizes 3 Drones, Heroin Near Amritsar Border In Punjab

The Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab recovered three drones and a substantial heroin consignment near the Amritsar border on Saturday, officials reported.

According to the BSF, the seizure included two DJI Mavic 3 Classic drones, one China-made DJI Air 3S drone, and a package containing 540 grams of heroin. The contraband was wrapped in yellow adhesive tape with a copper wire loop.

In a post on X, the BSF stated that the drones, suspected of being used for smuggling narcotics across the border, were neutralized during the operation using advanced technical countermeasures.

“All the drones are believed to have been neutralized using technical countermeasures during the operations,” the post read.

Earlier this month, the BSF recovered two drones from separate locations near the Amritsar border. The drones were found in the Dhanoe Khurd and Rattankund areas of Amritsar, officials said. The BSF added that both drones are presumed to have fallen due to the activation of technical countermeasures deployed along the border.

In a successful joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police recovered a packet of suspected heroin weighing 550 grams from farming fields near Daoke village in Amritsar district. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of BSF announced the seizure on Friday, attributing the success to a coordinated effort based on intelligence inputs.

Joint Operation Leads to Significant Seizure

The operation, which was launched following a tip-off from the BSF Intelligence wing on October 3, resulted in the discovery of a narcotics packet wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, further secured with blue tape. A steel ring and mini torch were also attached to the package, believed to have been dropped by a drone from across the border.

“Reliable intelligence combined with quick action by the BSF and Punjab Police led to yet another successful recovery of a drone-smuggled narcotics consignment,” the PRO stated.

SAS Nagar Raid Exposes International Drug Syndicate

In a separate development, SAS Nagar Police dismantled an international drug syndicate, arresting two individuals, Sukhdeep Singh and Krishan. The raid led to the seizure of 1.5 kilograms of heroin and revealed links to Afghan handlers operating in Delhi, who are connected to global drug cartels.

Sukhdeep Singh, previously involved in a kidnapping case in 2020 and released on bail in May 2024, was one of the arrested individuals. The Punjab Police said this operation dealt a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks and safeguarded the state’s youth.

The BSF emphasized its commitment to curbing the influx of narcotics across the border and announced its ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance and operational capabilities to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the region.

Punjab: Army Deserter Arrested, 12.5 Kg Heroin Seized in Major Drug Bust

In a significant blow to trans-border narcotic networks, the Counter Intelligence Jalandhar has arrested Amritpal Singh, alias Fauji, an army deserter and key figure in a Pakistan-linked heroin smuggling operation. The arrest led to the seizure of 12.5 kg of heroin, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav.

Amritpal Singh, a resident of Kasel village in Tarn Taran, had been on the run since August 2024. His accomplice, Sartaj, was previously apprehended at the Jammu Bus Stand with 33 kg of heroin.

DGP Yadav revealed that the smuggling cartel has international ties, led by the notorious fugitive Amrit Pal Singh Baath from Mianpur, Tarn Taran, who is currently operating from Dubai. Baath, a notorious gangster and smuggler, has 15-20 cases registered against him in Punjab, including two murder cases.

Based on reliable intelligence, Counter Intelligence Jalandhar set up a checkpoint at the canal bridge near Kangniwal village in Jalandhar. There, they apprehended Amritpal Singh and recovered 200 grams of heroin. Further investigation led to the recovery of 12.4 kg of heroin from a location on the link road between Tarn Taran and Jodhpur, as indicated by the accused. Additionally, a motorcycle used by Singh was impounded.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Counter Intelligence Jalandhar, Navjot Singh Mahal, reported that Singh disclosed during interrogation that he and his associate had received a 50 kg heroin consignment from the Akhnoor sector last month. The 33 kg of heroin found with Sartaj was part of this consignment. Following Sartaj’s arrest, Singh had concealed the remaining heroin at an abandoned site.

A case (FIR No. 57 dated September 13) has been filed under sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover additional links in the narcotics network.

Punjab police, BSF nab 7 with 5.47kg heroin

In a major breakthrough against trans-border narcotic smuggling networks, Fazilka Police in a joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF) have busted an International Narco smuggling module with the arrest of seven drug smugglers after recovering 5.47 Kg pure grade Heroin and RS 1.07 lakh drug money from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Baljinder Singh alias Lovely (21), Sukhchain Singh alias Lucky (19) and Solav Singh (19), trio residents of village Peere Ke Uttar in Fazilka; Gurcharan Singh alias Milkha (21) of village Chak Swaah Wala in Fazilka, Karandeep Singh (29) of village Badal Ke in Fazilka, Daljit Singh alias Maani (23) of Mahatam Nagar in Fazilka and Kamaldeep Singh (32) of village Kot Gobindpura in Kapurthala. Accused Kamaldeep Singh has a criminal background and has already been facing two cases under the NDPS act in Kapurthala.

Apart from recovering heroin and drug money, Police teams have also recovered 40 live cartridges, six mobile phones, 8.4 grams gold and 68.97 grams silver from their possession, besides, impounding their Hyundai Verna car (HR 06 Y 8681) and three motorcycles.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed most of the accused persons, who are in their teens, are students and were preparing for Army recruitment when they got acquainted with Kapurthala based drug smuggler Kamaldeep Singh and started smuggling heroin from across the border. The arrested accused were in touch with a Pakistan-based smuggler and were getting drug consignments via drones, he added.
He said that investigations are ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages and identify the Pakistan-based drug smuggler.

Sharing operation details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Pragya Jain said that Police teams got reliable inputs that accused Baljinder Singh, Sukhchain Singh, Solav Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Karandeep Singh and Kamaldeep Singh had got consignment smuggled from Pakistan and kept concealed at accused Baljinder’s house.

Acting swiftly on inputs, teams from Police Station Amir Khaas raided the spot and managed to arrest all the accused persons when they were about to leave their house in their Verna car and recovered drug consignment, live cartridges and drug money from their possession, she said, while adding that later Police teams have also arrested accused Daljit Singh.

The SSP said that the majority of the accused persons were first-timers and for the last four months they had been into this drug smuggling business. Further investigations are on, she added.

A case FIR no. 23 dated 23/05/2024 has been registered under sections 21, 23 and 29 of the NDPS Act and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Amir Khaas in Fazilka.

Meanwhile, Fazilka Police has recovered 22.57 kg of heroin since inception of the Model Code of Conduct on March 16, 2024.

BSF Finds Suspected Heroin Package From Amritsar’s Dhanoe Kalan village

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, vigilant as ever, discovered and retrieved a package of suspected heroin from Dhanoe Kalan village, situated near the border region of Amritsar district in Punjab, during the late hours of Sunday.

In addition to the narcotics, the troops also seized one copper wire loop and four illuminating strips affixed to the packet.

Upon hearing suspicious sounds near the border area of Amritsar, BSF personnel on duty promptly responded by rushing to the scene on May 19. They cordoned off the area where the sounds were heard and launched a thorough search operation.

In the course of the search operation, BSF troops effectively located and retrieved one packet of suspected heroin. The packet was wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and contained one copper wire loop and four illuminating strips. The total weight of the seized narcotics amounted to approximately 575 grams.

According to the Press Release, “The dropping zone was cordoned and an extensive search was conducted, which culminated at about 11.53 pm with the successful recovery of one packet (Gross weight- 575 grams) of suspected heroin in a farming field in nearby village of Dhanoe Kalan of district Amritsar in Punjab. The narcotics were wrapped with yellow coloured adhesive tape. One copper wire loop and four illuminating strips were also found attached with the packet.”

Once again, the attentive observation and prompt response of dedicated BSF troops on duty prevented an unlawful attempt to smuggle narcotics across the border.

Earlier, on May 18, the collaborative efforts of the Border Security Force and the Punjab Police led to the recovery of a drone in the border area of Tarn Taran district. This joint operation resulted in the successful retrieval of a China-made DJI Mavic 3 classic drone from a farming field near the village of Rajoke in Tarn Taran District.

Punjab: Two Drones, 560 gm ‘Suspected Heroin’ Seized In Amritsar

Two drones manufactured in China and approximately 560 grams of suspected heroin were confiscated in separate operations near the border areas of Punjab’s Amritsar on Monday, as per the Border Security Force (BSF).

According to an official statement, on May 13, 2024, during nighttime, vigilant BSF troops intercepted the movement of a drone in the border area of Amritsar district and tracked its trajectory. The potential dropping zone was cordoned off, and an extensive search was conducted. At around 03:50 am, BSF troops successfully recovered one small drone and one packet of suspected heroin in a farming field in Ratankhurd village of Amritsar district.

“The recovered packet (weighing approximately 560 grams) was wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, and one metal wire ring & three illuminating sticks were also found attached to the packet,” the BSF stated.

The retrieved drone is a Quadcopter (Model – DJI Mavic 3 Classic, manufactured in China), it further mentioned.

Similarly, in another operation on Monday, based on information from the BSF intelligence wing regarding the presence of a drone in the border area of Amritsar district, BSF troops conducted an extensive search operation in the suspected area. During the search operation around 09:05 am, the troops recovered one drone from a dry well in Dhanoe khurd village of Amritsar district.

The retrieved drone is identified as a China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic.

The BSF noted that the reliable input from the BSF intelligence wing and the timely action of diligent BSF troops thwarted yet another attempt of drone intrusion from across the border.

Delhi HC Asks Centre About 70,000-kg Heroin Disappearance from Seizure Records

The Delhi High Court has requested the Centre’s position on a petition alleging the disappearance of 70,772.48 kg of heroin from seizure records between 2018 and 2020. Justice Subramonium Prasad issued a notice on a plea filed by B R Aravindakshan, instructing the Centre to submit its response within four weeks.

The petitioner, a journalist, has asserted a significant inconsistency between the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) data regarding drug seizures in the country from 2018 to 2020.

He (petitioner) states that cumulatively, 70,772.48 kg of heroin has disappeared from seizure records between 2018 and 2020. Issue notice. Let replies be filed within four weeks,” the court said in its order issued on Wednesday.

The petitioner has highlighted that “the alarming disappearance” of over 70,000 kg of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh crore in the international market, raises concerns about national security, social stability, and economic repercussions.

The petition emphasizes that the scale of the “discrepancy” is so substantial that if not addressed promptly, it could lead to chaos in society, yet no action has been taken on the matter.

On 12.09.2022, the petitioner filed a complaint before the MHA regarding the mismatch of data provided by NCRB and the data provided by Hon’ble Nityanand Rai, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, concerning the seizure of heroin during the years 2018 and 2020.

“The petitioner insisted that 70,772.54 kg heroin worth Rs 5 lakh crore seized in India has been missing, thus insisting the ministry that an immediate investigation should be ordered for the safety and welfare of the country,” the petition states.

The petitioner has requested several directives regarding the alleged mismatch, including an instruction to the MHA to initiate an investigation within a specified time frame.

The case is scheduled to be heard next on September 9.

Punjab: Border Security Force Finds Packet of Suspected Heroin in Amritsar

Officials stated that the Border Security Force (BSF) discovered a packet of heroin in Amritsar, Punjab, on Sunday. The recovery occurred in a harvested crop field near Rajatal village in the Amritsar district.

As per an official statement, the BSF’s intelligence wing received intelligence on April 28 regarding a suspected packet’s presence in the border region of Amritsar district. BSF personnel promptly mobilized to the location and conducted a thorough search operation in the suspected area. During the search, they uncovered one packet of suspected heroin weighing 440 grams. The suspected heroin was enveloped in yellow adhesive tape, with a small LED light affixed to it, the statement elaborated.

The statement continued to affirm that the vigilant input and prompt action of BSF personnel once again thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics from across the border. On April 26, BSF, in collaboration with the Punjab Police, retrieved a drone in the border region of Tarn Taran district.

As per an official BSF statement, “Following intelligence received on April 25, 2024, regarding the presence of a drone in Tarn Taran district’s border area, a joint search operation was conducted by BSF troops along with the Punjab Police in the suspected vicinity.”

Identified as a China-manufactured DJI Matrice 300 RTK, the recovered drone was found in a damaged state during the search operation around 10:15 PM in a farming field near Khemkaran village in Tarn Taran District.

The statement emphasized that through dependable intelligence and coordinated efforts between BSF and Punjab police, yet another unlawful drone was successfully retrieved from across the border.

Assam Rifles arrest a Myanmar national, seize heroin worth over 8 crores

Assam Rifles, along with the Special Narcotics Police Station and CID (Crime) in Aizawl, apprehended a Myanmar national on Thursday. Assam Rifles announced on Friday that they had seized heroin valued at more than Rs 8 crores during the operation.

Based on specific intelligence, a joint team comprising Assam Rifles and the Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime), Aizawl, conducted the operation.

“Assam Rifles, along with Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime), Aizawl, Mizoram recovered 110 soap cases (1.206 kg) Heroin No. 04, with an approximate value of Rs 8,44,20,000 and one Honda car in General Area Tuikual North, Aizawl and apprehended one Myanmar’s National on April 25,” said a statement from headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East).

On April 25, 2024, the seized contraband and the detained individual were transferred to the Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime), Mizoram, Aizawl, for subsequent legal actions.

STF in Assam seizes 1 kg of heroin, 3 drug peddlers arrested

The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police seized one kilogram of heroin and apprehended three drug peddlers in Guwahati, police reported. Acting on reliable information, the STF conducted a raid at Rupkonwar Path under Basistha police station jurisdiction, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects. Along with the arrests, the police recovered pure heroin and three mobile phones.

“During the operation, the STF team recovered one plastic packet containing pure heroin weighing about 1 kg, and three mobile phones,” said Pranab Jyoti Goswami, CPRO of Assam Police.

The apprehended individuals were identified as 32-year-old Suman Talukdar, 35-year-old Audulomi Goyari, and 57-year-old Nersing Basumatary. Further investigations are ongoing to gather more information.

Additionally, acting on secret information, Assam’s Morigaon police arrested a drug peddler named Aminul Hoque and seized 14 small plastic vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 3 grams. Another drug peddler, Karim Ali of Jagiroad, was arrested, and 41 small plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing 5.51 grams were recovered.

Acting on specific information provided by the BSF intelligence wing, an extensive joint search operation was conducted in the border area of Amritsar district in the evening hours,” the Border Security Force stated.

In the operation, alert troops successfully seized a sizable packet believed to contain heroin.

“The packet, weighing approximately 5 kgs and wrapped in yellow adhesive tape with a metal hook attached, was found in a farming field adjacent to Neshta Village in Amritsar district,” it added.

Assam STF Busts Major Drug Trafficking Operation, Seizes Heroin Worth Rs 15 Crore

The Assam Special Task Force (STF) achieved a significant breakthrough, seizing a substantial cache of contraband drugs valued at Rs 15 crore and apprehending two alleged drug peddlers in the Kamrup district.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the DIG of STF, informed ANI that a staggering 1.800 kg of heroin, worth Rs 15 crore, was recovered from a vehicle en route from Manipur. The operation unfolded following intelligence received during the early hours, alerting authorities about narcotics being transported via a Tata DI vehicle from Manipur.

“The vehicle was intercepted at Saraighat, but upon sensing police presence, the drug peddlers attempted to evade capture by fleeing toward Changsari. To subdue them, two warning shots were fired. Upon searching the vehicle, a concealed compartment was discovered, revealing 1.800 kg of heroin, subsequently seized,” Mahanta explained.

After receiving information about drug trafficking, the STF quickly launched an operation led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak. The successful operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, Sonu Ali from Garigaon and Arjun Basfore from Jalukbari, who were involved in the illegal trade.

Heroin worth Rs 11 crore seized in Assam

Assam STF nabs 6 drug peddlers in Guwahati, 46 gm heroin seized

On Saturday, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police arrested six individuals involved in drug trafficking and confiscated 46 grams of heroin in the Khanapara region of Guwahati.

According to authorities, the detained drug peddlers have been identified as Sanjay Biswa (28), Avtar Singh (30), Shyamal Pegu (19), Bikash Ali (23), Nayan Talukdar (28), and Yuvraj Kalyan (24).

Deputy Inspector General (STF) of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta told the media that, “Acting upon a source input on a probable drugs consignment an operation was launched by STF Assam on Saturday in Guwahati to foil the criminal act by apprehending the persons involved.”

“Accordingly the team of STF Assam caught hold of a team of six drugs peddlers along with 46 grams of heroin concealed in 33 numbers of vials from their possession at Khanapara, Guwahati,” Mahanta said.

The heroin that was recovered and the six drug peddlers who were apprehended have been transferred to the local authorities at the Basistha police station in order to initiate the required legal procedures by filing a case.

BSF seizes 2.3 kg heroin in Punjab

On Tuesday, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled another smuggler’s plot by seizing 2.35 kg of heroin dropped by a Pakistani drone near the International Border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran region.

The BSF said, “On the intervening night of July 17-18, its troops deployed near the border fence heard the dropping of something by drone.”

The BSF said that during a search operation at about 6.45 a.m. on Tuesday, its personnel discovered a suspicious parcel ahead of the border fence in a farming field near Kalsian Khurd village in Tarn Taran region.

During the extensive search, BSF personnel discovered one packet of narcotics thought to be heroin weighing 2.35 kg and wrapped in yellow adhesive tape in a farming field ahead of the border wall.

“Vigilant troops of BSF, once again, were able to foil nefarious design of smugglers,” said the BSF, which is mandated to guard the 3,323 km India-Pakistan border.

Assam police seized heroin worth Rs 11 crore, 3 arrested

In two separate operations on Saturday, the Assam police Special Task Force (STF) and Kamrup district police confiscated a big quantity of heroin worth approximately Rs. 11 crore.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, DIG of STF, informed the reporter that based on confidential intelligence, Kamrup district police launched an operation late Saturday night, recovering 700 grammes of heroin from a car and arresting three drug peddlers.

“Kalyan Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police for the Kamrup district, received information that three couriers, Abdul Hai, Mohidul Islam, and Rofikul Islam, were transporting narcotics by vehicle from Guwahati to Dhubri.” “The police team intercepted the vehicle in the Palashbari area and recovered 50 soap boxes containing 700 grammes of heroin,” Partha Sarathi Mahanta stated.

On the other hand, 40 more soap cases totaling 500 grams were seized from a hidden chamber of a vehicle that had been involved in an accident in the STF narcotics case on June 25.

Previously, on June 25, the STF (Special Task Force) captured 2.2 kilogrammes of heroin in Hajo and Guwahati. According to the officials, they obtained source information that a narcotics cell located in Manipur was distributing narcotics through Assam. The cops took action after obtaining the information. As a result, the group was traced down and pursued by the STF team and Kalyan Pathak, Addl. SP (HQ).

J-K: Samba Police arrests drug smugglers, seizes 2 kg heroin

According to an official statement, the Samba Police in Jammu and Kashmir solved a firing case within a few hours and arrested three heroin smugglers on Monday. Close to 2.080 kilograms of heroin were recovered from the arrested persons.

Police also recovered Rs 93,200 in cash as well as one pistol and one magazine and rounds, the statement added. The arrested individuals have been identified as Jagdeep Singh (21), Satinderpal Singh (26), and Sunny Kumar (22). The three men got into an altercation with eight youths from the border village of Rangoor Camp over giving way to a vehicle. Satinderpal Singh reportedly opened fire with a Glock during the scuffle and subsequently injured two of the youths.

One of the three smugglers, Sunny, also sustained injuries as a result of Satinderpal opening fire. The three reportedly fled the scene after stealing a bike after the villagers confiscated their vehicle. Meanwhile, “reliable sources” apprised the Police Station in Ramgarh about the incident and the Police registered a case FIR under sections 307 IPC, 3/25 Arms Act and started an investigation.

All Nakas across the district were put on alert and the Police Party of Rarian Naka succeeded in apprehending all three smugglers who were fleeing. All those who sustained injuries in the fire were immediately shifted to CHC Ramgarh and later transferred to GMC Jammu for advanced treatment.

During questioning, the three men disclosed that they had hidden a Glock with magazine ammunition and some suspicious pockets near the Rarian Naka point. Police used this information to seize the weapon as well as the heroin that was found with it. All three have also been booked under the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway.

BSF shoots down Pakistani drone carrying narcotics near Amritsar border

Border Security Forces (BSF) shot down a Pakistani drone carrying narcotics along the India-Pakistan International Border near the Amritsar border, the Force said in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, the gross weight of the recovered consignment of suspected narcotics is approximately 2.7 kilograms. “On May 28, at about 8: 50 pm, alert Border Security Force troops deployed in-depth area, heard the buzzing sound of a suspected Pakistani drone, in the area near Village Dhanoi Khurd in district Amritsar…BSF troops immediately reacted to intercept the drone and successfully downed the drone with contraband.”

During a subsequent search of the area, BSF troops recovered a black DJI Matrice 300 RTK quadcopter drone, along with a consignment containing one bag of suspected narcotics.

Earlier on Sunday, BSF shot down a drone and arrested a smuggler with 3.2 kilograms of drugs near the India-Pakistan International Border in Punjab, the Amritsar DIG said.

Assam: 11 soap cases containing heroin seized, two held

Assam police on Tuesday seized 11 soap cases and recovered 538.74 grams of heroin from them during a search and along with the arrest of two persons in Barpeta district, officials said on Wednesday. Based on secret information, a team from Howly police station in Barpeta district on Tuesday launched an operation and apprehended two persons.

Two held for possessing 2Kgs of Heroin in Kupwara

According to the J&K Police, two people were arrested for allegedly possessing two kilograms of Heroin in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara. The accused have been identified as Mashkoor Ahmad Malik and Amjad Mir. As per the police report, based on a tip-off, a police Naka was established near Bandi Taad by a team of Police.

A truck driven by Mashkoor Ahmad Malik and boarded by Amjad Mir was searched and two packets weighing two Kilograms and apparently looking like Heroin were recovered. The vehicle was seized and the two smugglers were arrested under NDPS Act, police said.

Further investigation is underway.

BSF downed 3 trans-border rogue drones, recovers 12 kg heroin

In a joint operation, Punjab Police and Border Security Force (BSF) downed three trans-border rogue drones and recovered 12 kgs of heroin over the last week.

Taking to Twitter Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav tweeted, “Tarn Taran Police, working jointly with @BSF_India has downed three trans-border rogue drones in the last one week and recovered 12 kgs #Heroin Major blow to trans-border smuggling networks operating in the international border.”

Meanwhile, a Hexacopter drone that contained 5 kgs of heroin was recovered by Tarn Taran Police, during its joint search operation with the BSF.

“Tarn Taran Police in a joint search operation with @BSF_India have recovered a Hexacopter drone equipped with modern technology & packets containing #Heroin weighing 5Kgs from fields near the Indo-Pak border,” the DGP tweeted.

So far 16 drones have been shot this year and the force has also adopted an anti-drone system and in-depth patrolling to take down unmanned aerial vehicles.

“While rogue drones have emerged as a new security challenge for the BSF, we haven’t yet achieved success with any one mechanism to counter them. Hence, we have adopted three to four ways of dealing with this threat and they have been giving very good results,” BSF DG said.

At some specific locations (along the India-Pakistan border) anti-drone systems were installed.

“As the border is vast, anti-drone systems cannot be installed at all places. However, the system would be installed at more places in the coming days,” Singh said.

Moreover, three-four km of in-depth patrolling has been started by the BSF to collect illegal items.

“We have also given very good incentives to our jawans who shoot down these drones. Due to these efforts, we have shot down 16 drones this year till November, which is significantly more than just one drone shot down last year. The number of drones shot down is likely to increase to 25 by the end of this year,” Singh said.

Earlier on 28 November, a hexacopter drone weighing 18.050 kg carrying 3.110 kgs narcotics was shot down by women personnel of the BSF in Chaharpur village in Amritsar.

However, trained Kites and dogs are being used to prey on enemy drones and to deal with drones sent from across the border.

2 held with 8 kg heroin at Mumbai Airport

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has arrested two foreign nationals with 8 kg of heroin worth Rs 40 crores in the international market at Mumbai airport.

Earlier on Sunday, two foreign nationals were taken into custody by DRI with 8 kg of heroin.

Meanwhile, DRI received information that two foreign nationals had come to Mumbai to smuggle drugs.

Moreover, after taking them into custody, DRI interrogated the smugglers and also checked their luggage in which they found 4 kg of white powder, each of which was heroin.

2.76 kg heroin worth Rs. 13 crores seized in Aizawl

Heroin weighing 2.76 kg valued at Rs 13.8 crore has been seized by the Mizoram Police from the Aizawl district.

Meanwhile, at 11:45 pm Zonuam police outpost received the information on Monday night that unknown persons on the roadside along MZU road were suspected of contraband drugs being stashed away.

A senior officer of Mizoram police said, “Police party along with two civilian witnesses rushed to the spot. On conducting a thorough search in the area after midnight, a big sack containing 22 black polythene parcels was found hidden in the bushes about 12 meters down from the roadside. On checking, a total of 215 soap cases of heroin weighing 2.76 kg, valued at Rs 13.8 crore in the international market was recovered and seized.”

Moreover, under sections 21(c)/28/29 ND&PS Act at Vaivakawn Police Station, a case has been registered.

However, further investigations into the matter are underway.

1 held with 1.32 gm Heroin, 16.80 gm charas

A history-sheeter has been arrested by the Shimla Police with 16.80 gms Charas and 1.32 gms Heroin on Tuesday.HI

Meanwhile, the arrested accused has been identified as Mahaveer.

According to the Shimla Police, “The accused Mahaveer, a resident of Shimla, is a history-sheeter and a total of 11 cases have been registered against him in different Police stations.”

Under sections 20 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act an FIR has been registered against him at West Police Station in Shimla.

However, further investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier on Sunday Shimla Police’s Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) recovered 127.56 grams of Chitta (heroin) from a person.

Moreover, the Shimla Police on Thursday arrested one person and recovered 600 gms of opium and 98.60 gms of charas.
