</excerpt>

JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, son of former Karnataka minister HD Revanna, was arrested by Hassan police on charges of allegedly sodomising a party worker. He was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.

The arrest followed an FIR filed against Suraj Revanna at the Holenarasipura police station under Section 377 (unnatural sex) of the IPC, based on a complaint from a 27-year-old male party worker.

More About Suraj Revanna

Suraj Revanna hails from a prominent political family in Karnataka, being the brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna and son of JD(S) MLA HD Revanna and Bhavani Revanna. He currently serves as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council from Hassan district, becoming the 8th member of the Gowda family to enter politics.

The Revanna family has faced controversy following allegations involving Prajwal Revanna and the emergence of alleged obscene videos. Prajwal was arrested by the SIT at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on May 31 upon his return from Germany.

Allegations Against Suraj Revanna

The allegations against Suraj Revanna stem from an incident at his Gannikada farm in Holenarasipura on June 16, where he is accused of committing “unnatural offences” and sexually abusing the party worker.

Suraj Revanna’s Response

Suraj Revanna has refuted the accusations, claiming they are an attempt to extort Rs 5 crore from him. A case of extortion was registered against the JD(S) worker based on a complaint filed by Suraj Revanna’s close associate Shivakumar, who accused the party worker of demanding money in exchange for not filing a false sexual assault case. According to Shivakumar, the man initially demanded Rs 5 crore but later reduced the amount to Rs 2 crore.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Karnataka Police reached the Holenarasipura home of Bhavani Revanna, mother of suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, to conduct an inquiry. Prajwal Revanna, who is implicated in the obscene video case, was apprehended at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport upon his reentry into the country.

Bhavani has been remanded to police custody for six days by the court. He faces allegations in a kidnapping case filed under IPC sections 64(A), 365, 109, and 120(B). On Friday, the SIT issued a notice to Bhavani Revanna regarding the kidnapping case. They had requested Bhavani to be present for investigation and questioning at her residence in Holenarasipura on June 1.

Previously, Bhavani had submitted an anticipatory bail plea related to the kidnapping case, which resulted in the arrest of her husband HD Revanna. Bhavani then approached the Karnataka High Court to avoid arrest by the SIT.

The Special Court of People’s Representatives in Bengaluru has approved the SIT’s request for six-day custody of Prajwal Revanna about the alleged obscene video case. Revanna appeared before Justice KN Shivakumar of the Special Court of People’s Representatives in Bengaluru today, following the SIT’s request for a 14-day custody.

HD Revanna was previously arrested on April 29 in connection with the kidnapping case and was subsequently granted conditional bail by a special court for public figures. The case, lodged on April 28 at the Holenarasipura town police station, revolves around accusations of sexual assault made by Revanna and his son, Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, against their domestic worker.

Prajwal Revanna arrived back in India from Germany about a month after departing the country, reportedly on the night of April 26. This return followed the emergence of several explicit videos purportedly involving him on various social media platforms.

The court has mandated a bail bond of Rs 5 lakh along with surety and imposed specific conditions. The primary bail plea is set for a hearing on Friday. The court instructed HD Revanna to refrain from tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. Previously, a Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed by the state government, arrested Revanna on May 5 in connection with a kidnapping case tied to the sexual abuse allegations. The 66-year-old son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda was released on conditional bail in this case on Tuesday.

According to the complaint, the woman was sexually abused and later allegedly abducted to prevent her from testifying against Prajwal Revanna. Prajwal, whose explicit videos allegedly depicting sexual abuse went viral, has reportedly fled abroad to evade arrest. Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice against the 33-year-old, who left the country on April 27, the day after the elections.

Amidst these allegations, JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda announced on Thursday that he will forgo his birthday celebrations on May 18, citing the “difficult situation” the family is facing.

Revanna, who was arrested in connection with a kidnapping case related to the ‘obscene video’ incident, was granted bail on Monday.

The judge approved Revanna’s conditional bail on a bond of Rs 5 lakh. He had been detained on May 4 by Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials concerning the kidnapping case filed against him at KR Nagar police station in Bengaluru. Initially sent to judicial custody until May 14, Revanna’s release came after the special court’s decision.

Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna, are under investigation by an SIT constituted by the Karnataka government following allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation made by a woman who worked in their household. The FIR, filed by KR Nagar police, charges HD Revanna and his associate under Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping with intent to cause harm), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. The FIR names HD Revanna as the primary accused and Babanna as the second accused.

Revanna has dismissed the charges, calling them a “political conspiracy” against him. He stated to reporters, “It’s a political conspiracy going on against me. In my 40 years of political life, I have never seen anything like this.”

The incident involves Sathish Babanna taking her away on two occasions in April, citing an old legal matter during the second instance.

The woman’s son claims that her disappearance might be connected to a video implicating Prajwal Revanna in a case of sexual abuse. This suspicion led him to file a kidnapping complaint against HD Revanna and Babanna, resulting in charges under relevant sections of the IPC.

</excerpt>

HD Revanna, a JD(S) MLA from Holenarsipur and the son of former PM HD Deve Gowda, was remanded in judicial custody for a week by a special court for elected representatives on Wednesday. This decision came in light of abduction charges filed against him by the KR Nagar police in Mysuru.

As he left the courtroom, Revanna, who is the first member of the Deve Gowda family to be arrested in a criminal case, was visibly emotional and in tears. He was then taken directly to the Central Jail on the southeastern outskirts of the city, where he was assigned the under trial prisoner (UTP) number 4567.

The additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Ravindra Kumar B Kattimani, ordered that Revanna remain in judicial custody until May 14. He will be housed in the VIP block of the prison in Parappana Agrahara, and due to safety concerns, he has been given a single barrack with a dedicated bathroom and other basic facilities not available to other under-trial prisoners.

According to prison officials, Revanna will initially be kept in the admissions room at the jail for a few days to ensure he is free from infectious diseases, after which he will be moved to the relevant barrack.

The decision to remand Revanna in judicial custody came after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) produced him in court following the end of his four-day police custody. The SIT had requested judicial custody, citing non-cooperation from Revanna during interrogation.

During the proceedings, the special public prosecutor BN Jagadeesh stated that Revanna had only given negative answers to all questions during his police custody. Jagadeesh also expressed concerns that if released on bail, Revanna might tamper with prosecution witnesses.

Revanna’s counsel, however, argued against judicial custody, stating that his client’s lack of admission of guilt should not be considered non-cooperation. Revanna himself claimed innocence, stating that he had answered the SIT’s questions over the three days of interrogation, despite suffering from stomach pain. He also described his arrest as a political conspiracy and insisted that he was arrested without a warrant. Additionally, he denied holding any press conference, clarifying that he had only responded to media queries while being taken into SIT custody.

The state government has appointed senior advocates Ashok N Naik and Jayna Kothari as special public prosecutors to represent the SIT in this case.

</excerpt>

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy alleged on Tuesday that 25,000 pen drives containing sexually explicit videos, purportedly recorded by his nephew Prajwal Revanna, were distributed across Karnataka before the Lok Sabha elections last month. Kumaraswamy accused Congress leader DK Shivakumar of orchestrating this “conspiracy.”

Prajwal Revanna allegedly flew abroad on April 27, following the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls. HD Kumaraswamy claimed that the pen drives were initially circulated in Bengaluru Rural, the constituency of DK Shivakumar’s brother, DK Suresh.

Prajwal Revanna, who is the MP and JD(S) candidate in Karnataka’s Hassan, along with his father MLA H D Revanna, faces allegations of molesting their cook, with an additional case of rape registered against him. Earlier this month, Revanna’s father was arrested in a kidnapping case related to alleged sexual assault. In response to these allegations, the Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the charges.

Hinting at DK Shivakumar’s involvement, Kumaraswamy criticized the SIT, dubbing it the “Siddaramaiah Investigation Team” and “Shivakumar Investigation Team.” He questioned why action wasn’t taken against individuals named in complaints related to the distribution of the pen drives, despite his party’s polling agent filing a complaint.

Kumaraswamy also raised concerns about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks predicting the defeat of all three JD(S) candidates in the Lok Sabha elections, suggesting a possible conspiracy. JD(S) has suspended Prajwal Revanna, and authorities have issued a Blue Corner notice to locate him as he has been missing since April 27.

The hearing took place at the judge’s residence in the NGV area of Koramangala today under heavy security measures.

Addressing the issue, HD Revanna, arrested by the State Investigation Team (SIT), claimed it to be a political conspiracy against him, stating that such an ordeal is unprecedented in his four-decade-long political career. He underwent a medical examination at the Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital post his arrest.

Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, Revanna maintained his innocence, declaring the accusations to be part of a scheme to discredit him. He pointed out a prior complaint lodged against him on April 28, which yielded no evidence, yet led to his arrest under the pretext of a kidnapping case.

HD Revanna, along with his son Prajwal Revanna, a sitting MP and candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, faces investigation by a Special Investigative Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government following allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation by a female household staff member.

Their plea for interim bail in connection to the alleged “obscene videos” case was previously rejected by a special court in Bengaluru dedicated to cases involving public representatives.

The FIR, filed by the KR Nagar police, names HD Revanna as accused number one and another individual identified as Babanna as accused number two, with charges under Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping with intent to cause harm), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC filed against them.

</excerpt>

A special court on Saturday declined to provide anticipatory interim bail to Janta Dal (Secular) leader HD Revanna, who is accused of kidnapping a woman.

Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat dismissed Revanna’s plea for interim bail in a case filed against him under sections 364 (A), 365, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

The court said, “The complainant’s mother who is also the victim is yet to be traced and at this juncture, it would not be appropriate to discuss invocation about Sec.364-A of IPC, since the court is only considering the interim bail application.”

According to the prosecution’s account, a written report was submitted to the K.R. Nagara Police Station on May 2, 2024, around 9:00 p.m. The complainant reported that his mother had been employed in the residence of accused No.1 for approximately six years but had recently quit and started working as a daily wage laborer in their village.

The report mentioned that about 3 to 4 days before the Parliamentary Elections, accused No.2, Satish Babanna, who was acquainted with them, visited their residence and requested the complainant’s mother to accompany him. She returned home on the day of the parliamentary election. Additionally, it was stated that on April 29, 2024, around 9:00 p.m., the same incident occurred.

The report indicated that accused No.2, Satish Babanna, had visited their residence and requested the complainant’s mother to accompany him, allegedly as instructed by accused No.1, H.D. Revanna.

The complainant became aware of a viral video circulating concerning the alleged sexual assault on his mother through a friend. When he asked accused No.2, Satish Babanna, to return his mother, he refused. Concerned for her safety and well-being, the complainant lodged a complaint on May 2, 2024.

The applicant contended that he is an innocent and law-abiding citizen, and asserted that attempts were made to falsely implicate him. The complaint, according to the argument, does not in any way link the petitioner to the alleged offenses. It was further stated that the complaint appears to have been filed with a hidden agenda by political adversaries to damage his reputation in society.

The defense argued that the petitioner holds a prominent position in his constituency and had organized a campaign program where his son was a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The false accusations against his son were purportedly made to undermine his chances in the election, and now the petitioner is being targeted to settle political scores.

The public prosecutor opposed the plea, arguing that the case registered against the petitioner is not fabricated. Instead, it has links to sexual assault and misconduct reportedly committed by his son, Prajwal Revanna, who allegedly recorded obscene acts for repeated exploitation.

Moreover, it was asserted that the registered case serves as an illustration of how the petitioner and others may resort to any means to manipulate the legal system and interfere with the investigation.

The court observed that the victim of the alleged offense was abducted by accused No.2 at the direction of accused No.1, i.e., the petitioner. Additionally, the investigating officers were still in the process of locating the victim and recording statements from various witnesses related to the case.

The court said “The court has to look into the seriousness of the allegations leveled and also with all facts and circumstances of the case.Since the victim is yet to be traced, it would not be appropriate to admit the petitioner herein on interim anticipatory bail. However, at this juncture, it is made clear that the observations made supra are not with respect to the merits or demerits of the case.”

Consequently, the application was dismissed.

</excerpt>

In the midst of investigations into the alleged ‘obscene video’ case, Karnataka Home Minister Gangadharaiah Parameshwara stated on Saturday that a second lookout notice has been issued against both JD(S) MLA HD Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna.

“We have issued lookout notices against both HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna. We had issued a lookout notice to HD Revanna as he may plan to go abroad. But the second notice was given yesterday. They have time until this evening to reply to the notices…” Karnataka Home Minister said while speaking to the media on Saturday.

“Revanna has also applied for bail for the Mysore kidnapping case as well. One person has been arrested in the case,” he added.

The first lookout notice was issued against HD Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna after they sought time to appear before the investigation team.

The Karnataka Home Minister had on Thursday told the media about the lookout notice issued against the father-son duo in the case.

Meanwhile, HD Revanna has been booked on charges of kidnapping in connection with the ‘obscene video’ case. The action was taken based on a complaint lodged by the son of a woman who was allegedly “abducted and sexually abused.”

In his complaint filed to KR Nagar police in Mysuru, the man said his mother worked as a housemaid at HD Revanna’s home for six years before returning to her village, where she worked as a daily wage laborer.

The man later discovered a video allegedly depicting sexual abuse of his mother by incumbent MP and Hassan Lok Sabha candidate Prajwal Revanna. He said that soon after the video was revealed, his mother went missing.

He then filed a kidnapping complaint against HD Revanna and Babanna on Thursday night.

The Holenarsipura MLA and his associate were booked under Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping with intent to cause harm), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. The FIR, registered by KR Nagar police, also lists HD Revanna as accused number one and another man, identified as Babanna, as accused number two.

The FIR was registered hours before the anticipatory bail plea of HD Revanna came up for hearing in the Special Court for People’s Representatives in Bengaluru on Friday. He skipped the summons to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 2 for questioning.

HD Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna, who is the sitting MP and candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, are facing a probe by a Special Investigative Team (SIT), constituted by the Karnataka government, over allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman who worked in their household.

Revanna was booked in an alleged sexual harassment case on April 28 based on a complaint lodged with Holenarasipura Town police. The case was registered under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the dignity of a woman. As per the complaint, the victim claimed that Prajwal Revanna and his father, HD Revanna, had sexually assaulted her.

On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs said that Prajwal Revanna had traveled to Germany on a diplomatic passport and that no political clearance was either sought from or issued by the MEA regarding his travel. Addressing a media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the Ministry did not issue any visa note for Prajwal to visit any other country.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the Union government to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal and ensure his return by making use of diplomatic and police channels.
