</excerpt>

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot arrived in Jaipur from Delhi on Friday and addressed the media at the airport. He expressed confusion over the unexpected election results in Haryana, noting that BJP leaders had predicted a Congress victory just a day prior. Gehlot stated that while the Haryana results may not directly impact Rajasthan, a party’s electoral loss can dampen the morale of its workers.

He emphasized the need for a thorough analysis of the Haryana election outcomes, questioning what led to such surprising results after widespread predictions of a Congress win. Gehlot also mentioned that the party has lodged complaints with the Election Commission regarding EVMs and is awaiting a response, highlighting that the current electoral situation is unprecedented.

Rajasthan government is shutting down our schemes
Meanwhile, Gehlot, accusing the Bhajan Lal government of the state, said that our schemes in Rajasthan were excellent. I am proud to say that states across the country are adopting our schemes. By shutting down such schemes, the BJP government is the only one that is harmed. The public is suffering, but there is no regret in shutting them down. There are schemes of social security. In such a situation, attention should be paid to them. The government is not able to make payments to the contractors. It is not giving pension to widows, single women, disabled people. They should be the subject of concern.
‘The new CM’s photo could have been put up, why was the scheme stopped’

The former Chief Minister questioned and criticized the government for halting a free ration scheme just as it was benefiting the poor, suggesting that the new Chief Minister’s photo should have been displayed instead. He expressed that such decisions have caused frustration and resentment among the public. Additionally, he extended his best wishes to the Haryana government, hoping it would serve a full five-year term, emphasizing that good governance is essential for public welfare. The former CM said that when the poor were getting free ration, the government changed. The new Chief Minister has come, so his photo should have been put up, why was the scheme stopped? Such decisions have caused pain and anger among the public. At the same time, he wished the Haryana government all the best. He also said that he hopes that this government will complete in 5 years. If there is good governance, the public will benefit.

</excerpt>

Contrary to the expectations of principal opposition Congress trying hard to retain power as well as the exit polls, the saffron Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has succeeded in winning the polls for the third consecutive time leaving everyone stunned. Besides, the assembly poll results added to the woes of the many heavyweights as they failed to survive the polls facing a debacle. The situation is that while the exit poll results proved to be completely wrong, senior leaders of different parties who were expecting to win by a huge margin contrary to expectations had to face defeat.

On the other hand, many heavyweights and entrants were successful in proving their mettle by winning the elections. Many heavyweights from the political families of the state were also included in those who won and lost the elections. Apart from this, the ruling BJP and Congress had also given tickets to many new faces, many of whom made a successful political debut to their political innings, while for many these elections proved to be no less than a nightmare due to defeat. In this episode, it is pertinent to mention that heavyweights from different factions suffered setbacks in the polls.

Among the veterans who survived the polls, outgoing CM Nayab Singh Saini was successful in winning the election from Ladwa by a margin of about 17 thousand votes by even after shifting his seat from Karnal to Ladwa in Yamunanagar seat, while the margin of victory of Leader of Opposition and Congress heavyweight Bhupendra Singh Hooda also increased to 71465. The Olympian andthe former wrestler won in the Julana constituency by 6015 votes, defeating BJP’s Yogesh Bairagi. The assembly elections proved to be no less than a nightmare for the bigshots of many parties because they had to face fiasco contrary to expectations. Many ministers of the BJP government led by outgoing CM Naib Singh Saini including Sanjay Singh, Kamal Gupta, Gyan Chand Gupta, Aseem Goyal andSubhash Sudha, Ranjit Singh Chautala, Aseem Goyal, JP Dalal, Abhay Singh Yadav and Kanwarpal Gurjar failed to win the battle. Apart from these, Congress state president Uday Bhan, Gopal Kanda, former state president of BJP OP Dhankar, former minister Devendra Singh Babli and former finance minister Captain Abhimanyu.

</excerpt>

In a decisive rebuke, voters in Haryana have delivered a severe blow to the Chautala family’s decades-old political stronghold, rejecting both the regional parties the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).

In what can only be described as a political earthquake, top leaders of the Chautala dynasty—including Abhay, Dushyant, and Digvijay Chautala—suffered humiliating defeats, marking a dramatic shift in Haryana’s political landscape-despite both the parties were contesting election in alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party and Azad Samaj Party-with a focus on Dalit votes.

The INLD, contesting 52 seats in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), managed to win only two seats, its worst performance yet. Despite having once held sway over Haryana politics, the party’s fortunes have been in steady decline. This defeat marks a far cry from 2014, when the INLD won 19 seats and became the second-largest party, only trailing the BJP’s Modi wave. The slide has been evident since 2009, when it secured 31 seats, but this election’s outcome marks a new low. The alliance’s vote share has plummeted, signaling the deep erosion of its grassroots support.

The JJP, which had positioned itself as a potential kingmaker in the 2019 assembly polls after securing 10 seats, also faced complete obliteration. Not a single JJP candidate managed to win, with most losing their deposits. The party’s vote share, once a promising 14.8% in 2019, has evaporated in this election. The voters’ verdict is a clear rejection of the Chautala family’s rule, and the once-powerful JJP now finds itself without a foothold in the state. Of the eight members of the Devi Lal family who contested, six faced defeat, signaling a generational shift away from the dynastic politics that have long defined Haryana. The biggest shock came from Dushyant Chautala, the former Deputy Chief Minister and the face of the JJP, who finished a distant fifth in his constituency, securing a meager 7,950 votes—an embarrassing outcome for a leader who once held national ambitions. Abhay Chautala, the four-time MLA from Ellenabad and a stalwart of the INLD, also lost his seat, a defeat that marks the end of his family’s decades-long dominance in the region. He was bested by Bharat Singh Beniwal by a staggering margin of 15,000 votes.

</excerpt>

Proving exit polls and huge claims of victory by Congress in Haryana utterly wrong, the BJP has secured absolute majority in the elections. The results of the 14th Haryana Assembly surprised everyone. Congress, which was dreaming of ending its 10 years exile from power, and the ambitions of the three big leaders of the party who were on toes to become CM, have been shattered.

The key reasons for Congress’s defeat is believed to be the infighting between Congress stalwarts Bhupender Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja who were in the fray for the post of CM in the party. However, the party high command has made it clear that further action will be initiated by getting to the bottom of the reasons for the defeat.

After the exit polls, Congress started taking about a lead in 55 to 60 seats but as the voting rounds progressed, BJP started gaining lead by constantly overtaking Congress. The situation was such that till 12 AM, BJP was getting an edge in 50 seats while Congress was leading on just 34 seats in the 90 seats assembly .

Similarly, other parties including independence were leading in the remaining 6 seats. After this, till the final results came, BJP has been successful in maintaining its continuous lead with a good margin. Meanwhile, when the counting of rounds was going on in different assembly constituencies, BJP leaders kept claiming the exile of Congress will not end in Haryana and BJP will form the government for the third consecutive time.

Outgoing CM Nayab Singh Saini said: ‘’The public has completely rejected the lies of Congress. It is because of the blessings and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that we have been able to win the elections for the third consecutive time in a row in Haryana.

During the early counting rounds on Tuesday, Congress surged ahead of the BJP, prompting party workers to celebrate with sweets and firecrackers in both Delhi and Haryana. However, around 10 am, the BJP began to reclaim its position and eventually established a strong lead.

Exit Poll Predictions and Congress’s Confidence

Most exit polls had suggested a Congress victory following the elections held on October 5. However, Shrinate maintained that the Congress party would secure even more seats than projected. “We will win many more seats in Haryana than the exit polls indicate. We will also form a government in Jammu and Kashmir,” she confidently claimed.

The year 2024 has been a rollercoaster for Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat. She faced disappointment after missing out on a medal in the Olympic final, and soon after, she transitioned into politics. Vinesh is now running in the Haryana Assembly elections from Julana, Jind district, and early trends show her leading against BJP’s candidate, Yogesh Bairagi.

Vinesh Phogat’s Political Journey

Vinesh, originally from Charkhi Dadri, made headlines when she joined the Congress party after returning from the Olympics, where she was disqualified from the women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling final for being 100 grams overweight. Prior to her disqualification, she had defeated four-time world champion Yui Susaki of Japan. Despite this setback, Vinesh’s move into politics has drawn attention. Interestingly, she follows in the footsteps of her cousin Babita Phogat, who ran unsuccessfully in the 2019 Assembly elections.

Her Opponent: Yogesh Bairagi

Vinesh’s main competitor in the Julana constituency is BJP’s Yogesh Bairagi, a former Indian Army captain and commercial pilot. Bairagi played a significant role during the Covid-19 pandemic, helping rescue stranded Indians from abroad and also contributing to relief efforts during the Chennai floods. Currently serving as the president of BJP’s Haryana youth wing, Bairagi is expected to give Vinesh a strong challenge in the elections.

Wrestlers’ Protest and Vinesh Phogat’s Role

Vinesh Phogat’s political entry comes at a time when women wrestlers in Haryana are looking to her for change. Many hope that if she succeeds, Vinesh will be appointed as the state’s sports minister, helping to revitalize wrestling arenas (akhadas) across the state. These training centers, once filled with young athletes aspiring to win medals and secure government jobs, have seen a decline in activity after protests against sexual harassment in the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Vinesh, along with other top wrestlers like Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, led protests against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, demanding his resignation for allegedly harassing junior women wrestlers.

Julana Constituency and Election Context

Julana, part of the Jind district and considered the heart of Haryana, is an important political battleground. In the 2019 Assembly elections, the Julana seat was won by Amarjeet Dhanda of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) with 61,942 votes. The constituency is a general seat and is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), or Other Backward Castes (OBCs). According to the 2001 census, Julana had a population of 15,561, with males making up 53% and females 47%.

The results of the Julana constituency, along with 89 others, will be announced on October 8. All eyes are on this contest as Vinesh Phogat looks to make her mark in both politics and sports in the future.

</excerpt>

As Haryana eagerly awaits its assembly election results on Tuesday, the spotlight has intensified on internal political maneuvers within the Congress party, with veteran leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and senior Congress leader Kumari Selja emerging as key figures in the race for leadership.

In a strong statement ahead of the results, Hooda reiterated his catchphrase declaring himself “neither tired nor retired,” reaffirming his readiness to serve if chosen, while emphasizing that the final decision on the chief ministerial candidate would rest with the party’s high command.

Speaking in Delhi on Monday, Hooda pointed out that Congress’s performance in Haryana has significantly improved across both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha constituencies.
On the question of who will lead Haryana if the Congress secures a majority, Hooda stressed that the opinion of the party’s elected MLAs would be sought before the high command makes the final decision. “We will ask for the opinion of MLAs, and then the high command will make the final decision,” Hooda said, maintaining that he would accept whatever decision is made by the leadership.

Hooda’s remarks reflect a renewed sense of confidence in the Congress, which is hoping to capitalize on dissatisfaction with the BJP’s decade-long rule in the state. Hooda reminded voters of the Congress party’s achievements during his tenure as Chief Minister from 2005 to 2014, comparing them with what he called the failures of the BJP-led government from 2014 to 2024.

Other senior Congress leaders have also expressed confidence in the party’s performance. Supriya Shrinate, Congress spokesperson, echoed optimism about the party’s prospects in both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, stating, “I am fully assured that we will form a government of full majority in Haryana and J&K. The issues are unemployment, 10 years of ‘Jungle Raaj’ and disregard for youth and women. People have faith that if Congress comes to power, there will be investments and job opportunities.”

The manifesto was launched a day after the Congress party announced seven guarantees for the poll-bound state.

Promises jobs for Agniveers

The highlight of the manifesto is that the party promised guaranteed jobs for Agniveers and financial assistance of Rs 2,100 per month under ‘Lado Laxmi Yojana”.

Other significant announcements include ten industrial cities will be built on the lines of IMT Kharkhoda and more than 50 thousand youth from nearby villages will be given employment.

For healthcare initiatives, under Chirayu Ayushman, the amount of Rs 5 lakh received per year will be increased to Rs 10 lakh.

Manifesto also promises to offer scooters to college-going female students under the Awal Balika Yojana and LPG cylinders for Rupees 500 under the Har Ghar Grahini Yojana.
During the event, Union Minister JP Nadda highlighted key promises from the party’s ‘Sankalp Patra,’ stating, “All women will be provided financial assistance of Rs 2,100 per month under the ‘Lado Laxmi Yojna.’ Under the Chirayu Ayushman scheme, the Rs 5 lakh you get per year will be increased to Rs 10 lakh.

Criticizing the Congress party, Nadda remarked, “For Congress, this document is just a formality. It is merely a ritual for them and an attempt to deceive the people.”
He reflected on the state’s past, saying, “What was the image of Haryana 10 years ago? It was one of getting jobs based on ‘Kharchi’ and ‘Parchi,’ known for land scams.”

Sankalp Patra’ is very important: Nadda

Nadda emphasized the importance of the BJP’s manifesto, declaring, “For us, ‘Sankalp Patra’ is very important. We are serving Haryana non-stop.”
