</excerpt>

The Supreme Court on Friday posted for hearing in January 2025 plea of former Haryana Cabinet Minister and five-time MLA Karan Singh Dalal seeking verification and checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the recent Haryana Assembly Elections.

The petition filed by Dalal, alongwith Lakhan Kumar Singla (a candidate in the Haryana polls), came up for hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.

As senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for the Election Commission of India told the bench that a similar plea was filed before a bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and it was withdrawn, CJI Khanna ordered that the petition be listed for hearing before Justice Datta in the week commencing January 20, 2025.

Dalal has approached the apex court through advocate Aljo K Joseph seeking a policy for the verification of EVMs and compliance of an earlier judgement of the top court related to the issue.

Dalal and co-petitioner Lakhan Kumar Singla secured the second-highest votes in their respective constituencies and have sought a direction to the poll panel to implement a protocol for examining the original “burnt memory” or microcontroller of the four components of the EVM — the Control Unit, Ballot Unit, VVPAT and Symbol Loading Unit.

The BJP had returned to power the third time in a row by winning 48 out of 90 assembly seats in the Haryana assembly elections held recently.

Also read: 2022 Petition To Identify Ram Janmbhoomi Trust As Public Authority Quashed by Delhi HC

A bench comprising Justice Khanna and Justice Datta had delivered a judgement earlier in April rejecting the demand for bringing back the old paper ballots.

</excerpt>

In the wake of Congress’ dismal performance in the recent Haryana Assembly elections, General Secretary and Haryana in-charge Deepak Babaria has offered to resign, taking moral responsibility for the party’s significant defeat. This development comes as the party engages in internal discussions to analyze the reasons behind its lackluster showing, which dashed hopes of a comeback after a decade in opposition and allowed the BJP to secure a third consecutive term.

BJP Achieves Hat-Trick, Congress Scrambles for Answers

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defied anti-incumbency sentiment to achieve its best-ever electoral performance in Haryana, winning 48 seats—11 more than Congress. The results left little room for the opposition to regroup, as smaller parties like the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered heavy losses, and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) managed to secure only two seats.

Congress had relied heavily on Dalit and Jat voters, who make up nearly 20% and 25% of Haryana’s population, respectively. However, the BJP made substantial gains among these groups, further complicating Congress’s efforts to maintain its traditional support base. The BJP successfully flipped eight of the 17 Scheduled Caste (SC) seats, including notable wins in Nilokheri, Pataudi, and Hodal, where Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan lost to the BJP’s Harinder Singh.

Despite holding on to nine SC seats, Congress failed to make any significant gains, contrasting sharply with the BJP’s improved performance from the 2019 elections when it won only five SC seats.

Rahul Gandhi Expresses Disappointment

Following the electoral defeat, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his disappointment, calling the results “unexpected.” He announced that the party would conduct an internal analysis to understand the factors contributing to the loss. Gandhi thanked the people of Haryana for their support and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to fighting for “rights, social and economic justice, and the truth.”

</excerpt>

The Congress high command is preparing to take stern action in response to internal disputes, favouritism in ticket allocation, and the poor performance of senior leaders in the recent Haryana Assembly elections. Internal reports indicate that the party leadership is dissatisfied with several leaders who prioritised personal ambitions over the party’s collective interests, contributing to Congress’s unexpected defeat despite strong anti-incumbency sentiments against the ruling BJP.

During a post-election review meeting, former party president Rahul Gandhi reportedly expressed his dismay over the infighting, remarking that the leaders “fought amongst themselves” and neglected the party’s goals. According to sources, the Congress leadership is now contemplating significant changes, including action against several Haryana leaders.
A senior Congress leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, noted, “Some party leaders were too focused on positioning themselves for the Chief Minister’s post and failed to concentrate on the election. This was one of the major reasons for our poor performance, despite the public’s growing discontent with the BJP’s two-term rule; they should have noted that they could become chief minister only after the party gets 46 MLAs.”

The Congress high command is reportedly considering making sweeping changes at higher levels from Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), President to ground level. An internal review committee has been tasked with examining the factors behind Congress’s defeat, focusing on key regions where the party performed poorly.

Notably, Congress lost all four seats in Gurugram, six out of seven seats in Faridabad, all three in Rewari, all five in Karnal, and major losses in other districts like Panipat, Bhiwani, Jind, Mahendergarh, and Sonipat. Many of these areas were previously considered strongholds of senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

In addition to identifying regional shortcomings, the review pointed out that the party’s failure to appoint office bearers at district and block levels hindered its electoral machinery. Unlike the BJP, which has a well-structured hierarchy from booth-level workers (Panna Pramukhs) to state-level leadership, the Congress lacked a cohesive ground team.
Out of 28 sitting Congress MLAs, 15 were defeated in the elections, a significant blow to the party. Senior leaders, including HPCC President Udai Bhan, lost their seats, while others, such as Virender Rathor, Ram Niwas Ghorela were given tickets despite a history of electoral defeats from the same constituency. National Secretary Chiranjeev Rao also faced defeat from Rewari, further diminishing the party’s hopes.

Multiple candidates with accusations of corruption were given tickets, which, according to sources, played into the BJP’s hands. Additionally, the selection of candidates driven by personal loyalty rather than electoral strength backfired, with Congress losing more than 15 seats due to internal rebellions.

The growing dominance of the Bhupinder Singh Hooda faction within the party, at the expense of side-lining leaders like Kumari Selja, a prominent Dalit face, was identified as another reason for Congress’s electoral struggles as this given air to the Jat and non-Jat factor on the ground. Many party members, including Kumari Selja, Capt. Ajay Yadav, Shamsher Gogi, and Parvinder Pari, have openly criticized the leadership for running a “one-man show” and excluding other leaders from the campaign.

At the review meeting, Rahul Gandhi reportedly expressed his frustration over the constant complaints about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) being used as a scapegoat. Instead, he pointed out that local leaders focused more on self-interest than on ensuring the party’s victory. As the Congress managed to secure 37 out of 90 seats, falling short of the BJP’s 48-seat victory, Gandhi’s walkout has underscored the growing tension within the party ranks.

</excerpt>

The Haryana Assembly elections have once again highlighted the enduring influence of political dynasties in the state. As the results pour in, it is evident that the next generation of political heirs has not only taken center stage but has also emerged victorious in several high-stakes contests, defeating seasoned political veterans and maintaining their families’ dominance in Haryana’s political landscape.

Leading the pack is Arjun Chautala, the son of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala, who clinched a significant win from the Rania Assembly constituency. Arjun, despite his earlier failed bid in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Kurukshetra, bounced back to defeat Congress’s Sarv Mitar Kamboj and his grand uncle, former cabinet minister Ranjit Chautala, who contested independently. Notably, Arjun is the sole candidate of the INLD-BSP alliance to secure a victory, underscoring the Chautala family’s resilience in the face of declining support for the party. His win reaffirms the family’s stronghold in Haryana, even amid political headwinds.

In Kaithal, the Surjewala dynasty extended its political legacy with the entry of Aditya Surjewala, son of senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala. Aditya’s victory by a margin of 8,124 votes over sitting BJP MLA Leela Ram has marked the third generation of the Surjewala family to hold sway over the constituency. With his father, Randeep, securing his son’s ticket, this victory cements the Surjewalas as a dominant force in Haryana’s political theater.

Another dynastic success came in the form of Arti Rao, daughter of Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh. Contesting from the Yadav-dominated Ateli constituency, Arti won a tough multi-cornered contest, defeating Attar Lal of the Bahujan Samaj Party and Anita Yadav of Congress with over 56,000 votes. Arti’s victory marks the BJP’s third consecutive win in Ateli, and as a prominent figure in Haryana’s political scene, she is now being seen as a strong contender for a cabinet position in the BJP government.
Vikas Saharan, son of Hisar Congress MP Jai Prakash, also made a notable entry into electoral politics by securing the Kalayat seat.

His unexpected ticket from the Congress surprised many, but his subsequent triumph over former minister Kamlesh Dhanda and INLD’s Ram Pal Majra by a margin of 13,419 votes solidified his status as a rising star in the state’s political sphere.

3. First Ever Third Term in Haryana

Modi emphasized the significance of BJP’s win, stating, “For the first time in Haryana’s history, a government has been elected for a third consecutive term.”

4. Congress Weakening India

9. Congress’ Atrocities Against Dalits

Modi accused Congress of oppressing Dalits and backward classes, saying, “For decades, they were denied basic rights, and Congress will never allow a Dalit or backward to become Prime Minister.”

10. Congress Defaming Institutions

The Prime Minister concluded by accusing Congress of defaming India’s institutions, saying, “They are misleading the people and trying to destroy the credibility of India’s democracy.”

Former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh launched a scathing attack on Congress leader and newly-elected MLA Vinesh Phogat after her win in the Haryana Assembly elections. Singh, who is currently facing allegations of sexual harassment from several women wrestlers, claimed that Phogat’s victory would bring “destruction” wherever she goes. He dismissed her win as a hollow achievement, stating that while she may have secured her seat, the Congress party had ultimately lost in the broader election results.

“Many BJP candidates have won in Jat-majority seats. The so-called wrestlers who led the wrestler’s agitation are not heroes of Haryana but villains for all junior wrestlers. If she (Vinesh Phogat) used my name to win, it only proves that I am a great man who helped her. She won, but Congress lost. Wherever she goes, destruction will follow,” Singh remarked.

Singh Praises BJP’s Performance in Haryana

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also commended the BJP’s performance in Haryana, where the party is leading in 50 seats, defying exit polls. Singh credited the BJP’s success to its policies and the people’s trust, dismissing attempts to mislead voters in the name of farmer and wrestler protests. “I thank the people of Haryana for not falling for the protests against us,” he added.

Vinesh Phogat’s Response

After securing a victory from the Julana constituency, Vinesh Phogat dedicated her win to the struggles of women across the country. “This victory is for every girl, every woman who fights for what is right. It represents truth, justice, and strength. I will honor the trust and love the people have given me,” she stated.

Vij, a six-time legislator, is facing off against Sarwara and Congress candidate Parvinder Pal Pari in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. Confident of his victory, Vij aims for a seventh consecutive win from Ambala Cantt, citing his track record of development in the region.

Anil Vij’s Political Career

Born on March 15, 1953, in Ambala Cantt, Anil Vij has had a prominent career in Haryana politics. He began his political journey in 1990 after winning a by-election from Ambala Cantonment. Over the years, Vij has held key portfolios, including health and medical education, in the Haryana government and has served as the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Known for his strong leadership, Vij is running for the seventh time from Ambala Cantt, confident in BJP’s return to power with a full majority.

Ahead of the polls held on October 5, Vij told PTI, “I am seeking votes based on works done in Ambala Cantt. This election is between politics of work and politics of mere talk.”

Battle for Ambala Cantt

Vij is competing against 10 other candidates in Ambala Cantt, including Congress rebel Chitra Sarwara, who was suspended from the Congress for anti-party activities after filing her nomination as an Independent. Sarwara is the daughter of former minister Nirmal Singh, who is contesting from the Ambala City constituency. Sarwara had contested against Vij in the 2014 elections as an Independent but lost.

The Ambala Cantonment Assembly constituency, located 200 kilometers north of Delhi and 55 kilometers southwest of Chandigarh, is one of Haryana’s 90 assembly seats. It has been a BJP stronghold in recent years, with a population of 55,370 according to the 2011 census. The region, established as a military cantonment in 1843, is known for manufacturing scientific and surgical instruments.

As per the Election Commission’s website, Phogat is on track to win the seat with a lead of 5,231 votes against her nearest rival, BJP’s Yogesh Kumar.

Bajrang Punia, who recently joined the Congress along with Vinesh, expressed his pride in her achievement, posting in Hindi on X (formerly Twitter):
“Many congratulations to the country’s daughter Vinesh Phogat for her victory. This fight was not just for one Julana seat, it was a fight against the strongest oppressive forces in the country. And Vinesh emerged victorious.”

Congress Voices Concerns Over Election Commission Data

Despite Vinesh Phogat’s strong lead, Congress has raised concerns over discrepancies in the vote count data shown by the Election Commission (EC). Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the EC of slowing down the display of real-time election trends, alleging that outdated information is being shared to influence the results in favor of the BJP.

Meanwhile, as counting continued, BJP candidates were leading in 49 out of 90 constituencies, while the Congress led in 35 seats. Independent candidates and members of INLD and BSP are also leading in some constituencies. Despite earlier exit polls predicting a Congress victory, the BJP is edging towards a hat-trick win in the Haryana Assembly election.

In other key races, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda was leading from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat, defeating his nearest rival, BJP’s Manju.

Counting of votes from the October 5 assembly election began at 8 AM on Tuesday. As per the EC data at 12:40 PM, counting was almost complete in most constituencies, with results expected to be finalized soon.

As per the Election Commission’s latest trends, the BJP has crossed the majority mark in the Haryana Assembly, leading in 48 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 35 seats.
Chief Minister Saini Leads in Ladwa

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is leading from the Ladwa constituency, securing 32,708 votes over Congress candidate Mewa Singh. In another key constituency, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda is leading in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi with 56,875 votes, ahead of BJP’s Manju.

Congress leaders have raised concerns over discrepancies in vote count data displayed by the Election Commission (EC). Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera accused the EC of lagging behind in showing accurate results, pointing out that while 11 rounds had been counted, only 4-5 rounds were reflected in the data. Jairam Ramesh echoed these concerns, suggesting that outdated data could be used to influence results in BJP’s favor.

BJP on Track for Hattrick Win

Despite earlier exit polls predicting a Congress victory, the BJP is leading in 49 of the 90 constituencies and is on track for a third consecutive win in Haryana. Congress is holding steady in 35 seats, with counting almost complete in most constituencies as of 12:40 PM.

</excerpt>

In the final countdown to the 2024 Haryana election results, Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal reiterated the robust security measures implemented to protect the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). A stringent three-tier security cordon has been established around the EVMs, stored in four strong rooms at Kurukshetra University. Jogpal emphasised, “As per the norms laid down by the Election Commission, a three-tier security cordon is in place for the EVMs. The Central Paramilitary Forces (CPF), Haryana Armed Police, local police, and the Duty Magistrate have all been appointed.”

Only candidates, their counting agents, and election agents are permitted inside the counting area, and strict rules are in place, prohibiting mobile phones, pens, or paper to ensure a smooth process. With over 20,000 polling stations set up for the elections, the voter turnout hit 65.65%, surpassing expectations from previous elections.

Exit polls predict a landslide victory for the Congress, with some forecasts projecting the party to win 50-58 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expected to trail behind with 20-28 seats, faces stiff competition in the 90-member Haryana Assembly, where a majority requires 46 seats. This marks a crucial moment for Haryana, as voters await the official results set for Tuesday.

As tensions rise ahead of the results, authorities have deployed over 60,000 security personnel and 225 paramilitary units across the state. DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor mentioned that high-security areas, like Nuh, have been fortified with 13 paramilitary companies to ensure law and order.

These security measures reflect the heightened political stakes in Haryana, where Congress is poised to make significant gains, potentially reshaping the state’s political landscape.

</excerpt>

A day after the voting for the high-stake Haryana Assembly elections, the political atmosphere is charged with ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, expressing strong confidence in securing a decisive victory. Contrary to the predictions of comfortable majority to the Congress in the exit polls, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed his confidence in the BJP’s ability to form the government without the need for alliances, while former Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda predicted a sweeping victory for Congress, citing overwhelming public support for the party.
The Chief Minister said he believed that the BJP will secure a majority and form the government on its own. Dismissing the need for alliances, Saini asserted that the BJP has a well-structured campaign and robust party organisation behind it. “We will not need any kind of alliance. I have said from the very beginning that the BJP will form the government alone. We have all the arrangements in place,” Saini said.

He expressed gratitude towards the top leadership of the party, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, for guiding the campaign. Confident of victory, Saini remarked, “We will form the government with a full majority on October 8. I have this report. On the 8th, the people will give their answer, and Congress will say, ‘EVM hai kharab’ (faulty EVMs).”
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who led the state from 2005 to 2014, is equally optimistic about a Congress victory. Hooda believes that the people of Haryana have decided to bring the Congress back to power with a significant majority, citing dissatisfaction with the BJP-JJP coalition government that ruled the state from 2014 to 2024.

“I want to thank all the voters of Haryana for conducting peaceful elections. The people have made up their minds to bring the Congress party to power with a huge majority. Congress was in power from 2005 to 2014, and people have seen our achievements, while they have also seen how the BJP-JJP government failed over the past decade,” Hooda stated.

Congress MP Kumari Selja supported Hooda’s optimism, stating that, based on her assessment, Congress would win over 60 seats. “Congress is seen as a viable alternative, and there was heavy anti-incumbency, especially among weaker sections who felt suppressed under BJP rule. Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra was a turning point,” Selja said.

Other Congress leaders echoed the confidence of Hooda and Selja. Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan predicted that the party would break its 2005 record of 67 seats, estimating a win of around 70 seats. “The BJP did not fulfil a single commitment made to the public. The people have shown faith in the Congress party’s guarantees,” he said.
Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda emphasized that Congress is making a comeback not just in Haryana but across North India, crediting Rahul Gandhi’s leadership during the Bharat Jodo Yatra for changing the mood in Haryana. “Our aim was to bring about change and establish Congress governance. The public will end the misrule of the BJP,” he remarked.

On the BJP front, Ambala Cantt candidate Anil Vij dismissed exit poll results favoring Congress, insisting that the BJP would secure a strong victory. “Exit polls have been wrong before. The vote percentage in Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s constituency decreased by 5%, while in my constituency, it increased by 3%. This means the public’s support for Congress has decreased,” Vij stated confidently.

Amid the battle between the BJP and Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also staked its claim, with Haryana AAP President Sushil Gupta stating that AAP’s entire campaign was centered around removing the “corrupt BJP government” from power. “The BJP will be removed from power.

AAP will get a significant vote share in the Haryana assembly elections,” Gupta asserted.
As both major parties, BJP and Congress, prepare for the results, it remains to be seen which party will ultimately form the next government in the state which has 90 assembly seats with the BJP banking on its organizational strength and Congress hoping that anti-incumbency and Rahul Gandhi’s campaign will tip the scales in its favour.

Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, along with his son and Congress MP Deepender Hooda, cast their votes at a polling booth in Rohtak as voting commenced for the Haryana Assembly elections 2024. Hooda expressed optimism about Congress securing a significant majority in the state.

Contesting from the Garhi-Sampla-Kiloi constituency, Hooda is up against BJP’s Manju, AAP’s Praveen, JJP’s Sushila Devi, and INLD’s Krishan. He stated, “Congress is coming to power in Haryana with a huge majority. The high command will decide who will be the Chief Minister. Our government will focus on addressing unemployment, improving law and order, and advancing the state’s development.”

Hooda encouraged citizens to exercise their voting rights peacefully. “I urge everyone to step out and vote. Reports indicate a good voter turnout, and Congress is set to form the government here,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deepender Hooda raised concerns with the Election Commission, demanding the removal of the Bhiwani Superintendent of Police, alleging bias in favor of a BJP candidate. He asserted, “The people of Haryana have decided; the BJP government is going, and Congress is coming. Voters are rejecting the BJP and its independent candidates.”

Voting for the 90 assembly seats in Haryana began on Saturday, with a reported voter turnout of 22.70% by 11 AM, according to the Election Commission of India. Palwal led with the highest turnout at 27.94%, followed by Jind at 27.20%, Mewat at 25.65%, Yamunanagar at 25.56%, and Ambala at 25.50%.

In Rohtak, the turnout was recorded at 12.71%, while Bhiwani saw 23.45%, Charkhi Dadri 20.10%, Faridabad 20.39%, and Hisar 24.69% by 11 AM.

Manish Kumar Lohan, Nodal Officer of the Haryana Election Commission, noted, “More than 25% voter turnout has been recorded, with districts like Yamunanagar, Kaithal, and Bhiwani showing over 20%. This is an encouraging trend, and I am confident we will achieve a higher overall turnout compared to previous elections, thanks to our efforts in engaging new young voters.”

Union Minister and former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar cast his vote at the GGSSS Prem Nagar polling station in Karnal. Speaking to the media before voting, Khattar encouraged citizens to exercise their right to vote, adding, “The administration has made all the arrangements and elections will be held peacefully. BJP is confident of winning and we will form the government in the state for the 3rd time.”

High-Stakes Election for BJP, Congress, and Others

This election is critical for the BJP as it seeks a third straight term in office, while the Congress is banking on anti-incumbency and issues such as the farmer and wrestler protests to reclaim power. The main contesting parties include the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Additionally, there are two notable pre-poll alliances: the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP).

Election Details

Voting is being held from 7 am to 6 pm, with 1,031 candidates competing for seats across 90 assembly constituencies. To accommodate voters, 20,632 polling booths have been established. The election results will be announced on October 8, along with those of Jammu and Kashmir.

Over 2 Crore Voters in Haryana

According to Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer, Pankaj Agarwal, 2,03,54,350 voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including 1,07,75,957 males, 95,77,926 females, and 467 third-gender voters. To ensure security, 29,462 police personnel, 21,196 home guards, and 10,403 Special Police Officers (SPOs) have been deployed across the state. Surveillance has been tightened to maintain order and allow citizens to vote without fear.

Prominent Candidates and Alliances

Among the key figures in the election is wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who joined the Congress on September 6, along with fellow Olympian Bajrang Punia. Phogat became involved in politics after her disqualification from the Paris Olympics women’s 50 kg final.

The JJP-ASP alliance is contesting all 90 constituencies, with JJP fielding candidates in 70 seats and ASP in 20. In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 out of 90 seats and formed a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats. The Congress won 31 seats in that election, though the JJP later exited the coalition.

Security Measures and Voter Turnout

The state is under strict surveillance with an aim to ensure peaceful voting. This election marks a key moment for Haryana as political parties battle for control amidst significant social and economic issues.

</excerpt>

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping two of his followers, has once again requested a 20-day parole, just days before the upcoming October 5 Haryana assembly elections.

The Dera Sacha Sauda chief, who returned to Rohtak’s Sunaria jail on September 2 after a 21-day furlough in August, has been accused of influencing his largely Haryana-based followers to vote in a specific manner during elections.

Since his conviction in 2017, Singh has been out of prison on parole or furlough ten times, spending 255 days—over eight months—outside jail. Many of these releases coincided with elections in Haryana and nearby states.

Singh’s latest parole request has been forwarded to the election department, which has asked the jails department to clarify the “compelling emergent reasons” for the request, as required by Election Commission guidelines. An April 2019 directive from the EC states that parole should only be granted in cases of “extreme emergency” and ensures that the convict does not engage in election-related activities.

Haryana’s 90-member assembly elections are scheduled for October 5. Political analysts note that Singh, as the leader of the Sirsa-based sect with a significant following, remains influential during election season. Politicians across the spectrum have sought his “blessings” in the past, according to Panjab University political scientist Prof. Ashutosh Kumar.

A state official reiterated that every convict has the right to be considered for temporary release and dismissed claims of favoritism. A Dera spokesperson stated that Singh is entitled to 91 days of temporary release annually and has so far utilized 71 days, leaving him eligible for another 20 days of parole this year. The spokesperson added that the request is within legal limits and unrelated to the elections, noting that the approval process may extend beyond the polls.

In January 2023, BJP leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Krishan Lal Panwar and former minister Krishen Kumar Bedi, interacted with Singh during a virtual satsang while he was on a 40-day parole. Although they denied any political motives, the opposition Congress criticized the move as a “vote-catching ploy.” In 2022, Singh’s virtual appearance at an online congregation attended by Haryana BJP leaders, including the then Karnal mayor Renu Gupta, also drew criticism for alleged political motivations.

</excerpt>

With the Haryana Assembly elections approaching, the Congress party has made a strategic decision to sideline Kumari Selja, a notable Dalit leader known for her strong grassroots connections. This move appears to be aimed at maintaining the influence of former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda. The decision has sparked concerns about an anti-Dalit bias within the party. Selja’s increased visibility before the elections was abruptly curtailed, suggesting a deliberate effort to reduce her role.

Rahul Gandhi, a key figure in the Congress party, has been an advocate for the rights of oppressed and deprived communities, frequently addressing caste issues across various sectors. However, within the party, the voice of a prominent Dalit leader like Kumari Selja has been notably suppressed. The party leadership has not challenged Hooda’s dominance, despite Selja’s significant contributions.

Haryana Congress is currently under the strong influence of Bhupendra Singh Hooda. His control over the party has led to what appears to be a concerted effort to marginalize Kumari Selja politically. Despite her long-standing loyalty and dedication, the current situation suggests that Haryana Congress is closely aligned with Hooda, reflecting the idea that “Hooda is the Congress, and the Congress is Hooda.”

Hooda’s dominance was also evident during the Lok Sabha elections. Selja pointed out that fair ticket distribution could have led to a better performance for the Congress. She accused Hooda’s camp of favoring outsiders in ticket allocation, highlighting inconsistencies in the process.

Out of the 90 seats in Haryana, Congress is contesting 89, with 72 candidates being loyal to Bhupendra Singh Hooda. In contrast, only nine candidates close to Kumari Selja made it to the list. This stark disparity underscores the marginalization of Dalit leaders within the party.

Kumari Selja’s current standing in Haryana Congress is a clear reflection of her marginalization by the Hooda camp. She supported Vidya Rani Danoda from Narwana and Himmat Singh from Ambala City for tickets, but their nominations were cut, demonstrating Hooda’s control over the party and his influence in sidelining Dalit leaders like Selja.

After the Lok Sabha elections, Kumari Selja positioned herself as a potential candidate for the Chief Minister’s post. Even while serving as an MP, she expressed interest in contesting the assembly elections. However, an order from the leadership prevented MPs from contesting, effectively barring her from running.

The sidelining of Kumari Selja by Haryana Congress goes beyond personal humiliation; it represents a deliberate effort to distance a Dalit leader from the party’s mainstream politics. This incident sheds light on the internal maneuvers within Congress and the extent of Hooda’s influence.

The treatment of Kumari Selja by Congress exposes a discrepancy between the party’s stated commitment to Dalit representation and its actions. While the party claims to stand for Dalit interests, in practice, the influence of leaders like Hooda appears to overshadow these principles. The sidelining of Selja ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections underscores the internal power dynamics within Congress, revealing how influential figures like Bhupendra Singh Hooda shape the party’s direction to serve their interests.

</excerpt>

With Haryana’s assembly elections fast approaching, voting is scheduled for October 5, and counting will take place on October 8. After a decade out of power, Congress is making ambitious promises in its bid to regain control. However, the party’s history of unmet commitments could pose a challenge. Congress is contesting 89 of the 90 assembly seats, with CPI(M) retaining its seat in Bhiwani. A majority requires 46 seats.

Congress’s failure to deliver on its promise of waiving farmers’ loans has been a significant issue, particularly in Rajasthan. During a rally in Pokhran on November 26, 2018, Rahul Gandhi vowed that loans would be forgiven within ten days if Congress won the state elections. Despite securing victory, the pledge remained unfulfilled, contributing to the BJP’s win in 2023.

A similar scenario is unfolding in Himachal Pradesh. Congress’s victory in the November 2022 assembly elections was bolstered by 10 major promises, including Priyanka Gandhi’s commitment to create 100,000 jobs. Despite Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s first cabinet meeting in January 2023, this promise remains unmet.

Additionally, government employees in Himachal Pradesh have expressed dissatisfaction with delays in pay and benefits. Pensioners from the State Electricity Board have protested unpaid bills, threatening to report their board cards to the Election Commission if payments were not made by December 31.

</excerpt>

BJP leader Anil Vij recently expressed his desire to become the Chief Minister ahead of the Haryana assembly elections. In response, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan confirmed that the party’s candidate for the position is the current Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini.

On Sunday, Pradhan, who is overseeing the BJP‘s Haryana election campaign, expressed confidence that the party will win in Haryana for the third consecutive term. He urged the people of Haryana to allow the BJP to continue serving, citing the implementation of various welfare schemes and efforts to fulfill the aspirations of the youth and empower women.

“BJP’s CM candidate is Nayab Singh Saini,” Pradhan stated, adding, “It is certain that the BJP will receive support for the third time in Haryana. The voters should give the BJP another opportunity to serve the state.”

Pradhan also addressed the political climate, suggesting that the Congress party’s approach, particularly regarding corruption, and its alleged anti-Dalit and anti-backward mentality, is becoming increasingly apparent as the elections draw closer. He expressed certainty about the BJP’s victory, stating that these issues will be central in the upcoming elections, and predicted a defeat for the Congress party.

Earlier, Anil Vij, a senior BJP leader and the candidate from the Ambala Cantt Assembly constituency, staked his claim for the Chief Minister’s post. He highlighted his seniority, having contested elections six times, and mentioned that he has not previously asked the party for any position. “I am the senior-most MLA of the BJP in Haryana. On the demand of people, I will claim the position of CM based on my seniority this time,” he said.

Vij, however, acknowledged that the final decision lies with the party’s ‘high command.’ “It is in the hands of the high command whether they will make me CM or not. </excerpt>

Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat expressed strong confidence in receiving support from the people of Julana for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. Phogat, who is also a celebrated wrestler, believes that with the blessings of her supporters, she will achieve victory.

“These people have supported us in wrestling, and I am confident they will support me in these elections as well. I owe everything to God and my elders. Their blessings are crucial for my success,” Phogat said.

Earlier today, Dronacharya awardee and wrestling coach Mahavir Singh Phogat expressed disappointment over Vinesh Phogat’s decision to enter politics. He suggested that she could have made this move after the 2028 Olympics, noting that her recent performance at the Paris Olympics, where she was disqualified from the final, could have been followed by a continued focus on wrestling.

“I am saddened by her decision to join politics now. She performed well in Paris but did not win a gold. The people of India had high hopes for her. I believe she should have focused on the 2028 Olympics before transitioning into politics,” Mahavir Singh Phogat told ANI.

He added that Vinesh Phogat had no previous intentions of entering politics, which came as a surprise. “Neither Vinesh nor Bajrang had plans to join politics. It seems surprising how Congress managed to get her involved in elections,” he remarked.

Vinesh Phogat recently inaugurated her party’s election office in Julana and performed a traditional havan. After her disqualification from the Paris Olympics due to a slight weight issue, Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling and joined the Congress party.

The Haryana Assembly elections will take place on October 5, with the last date for filing nominations being September 12. Vote counting is scheduled for October 8. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 40 seats, while the Congress won 30 seats.

Key figures excluded from the list voiced frustration, with some announcing plans to contest as independents. Despite the turmoil, leaders like Anil Vij and Shakti Rani Sharma celebrated their nominations and vowed to work harder for the people.
</excerpt>

A day after the BJP released the first list of 67 candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections, a wave of dissent came to the fore on Thursday with several prominent party leaders expressing their displeasure and resigning from their positions. Some leaders even said they would contest independently.

The internal strife began after a few key figures were excluded from the list, including sitting MLA Laxman Napa from Ratia, former minister and BJP OBC Morcha president Karan Dev Kamboj and Cabinet Minister Ranjit Chautala. Other notable leaders who raised the banner of revolt include former MLA Savitri Jindal, BJP Kisan Morcha President Sukhvinder Mandi, former minister Bishambar Valmiki, and state vice president GL Sharma. All have either resigned from the party or announced their intention to contest as independents.
Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, who joined BJP in 2019 and had recently expressed his willingness to contest from Gohana elections has stirred speculation with a cryptic social media post. The party has fielded former MP Arvind Sharma on this seat.

Without disclosing his future plans Dutt took to social media to share a poignant message in Hindi, which roughly translates to: “When your character is pure, then why is this your condition? These sinners have no right to test you. You should go in search of yourself.”
Cabinet Minister Ranjit Chautala, who had joined the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections and unsuccessfully contested from Hisar has stepped down from his ministerial position. He expressed his frustration, stating, “If I contest, it will be from Rania. BJP is offering me Dabwali, but I have declined. Now that BJP hasn’t given me a ticket, there’s a 90% chance I’ll contest as an independent.”

In Jind’s Safidon, former MLA Bachan Singh Arya resigned after the BJP fielded JJP rebel Ram Kumar Gautam. Arya will run as an independent candidate. Similarly, former Haryana minister Kavita Jain, visibly emotional, demanded a change in the party’s candidate for Sonepat within three days.

Senior BJP leader Shamsher Singh Kharkhada, who had contested the 2019 assembly elections on the BJP symbol from Meham, also quit after being denied a ticket. Kharkhara is expected to join the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), while Aditya Chautala resigned from his position as Chairman of the HSAM Board. Chautala had sought a BJP ticket from Dabwali and was disappointed by its omission from the first list.

Karan Dev Kamboj, former minister, criticized the party’s recent decisions, accusing it of adopting Congress-like practices and betraying dedicated party workers. He lamented, “Congress culture has come into the BJP as well. Those who created trouble were made to join BJP and were given tickets. This is cheating to the rest of the party workers… Congress will form the government here and BJP’s dream will remain a dream.”
Amidst the turmoil, celebrations erupted in BJP camps as those who received tickets began their election campaigns. As senior leader and Ambala Mayor Shakti Rani Sharma has thanked the BJP leadership for giving her party ticket from Kalka constituency. “The complete development of Kalka is my sole objective. To become the voice of the people, to support the underprivileged, and to work for the development of the entire assembly constituency, we are prepared. My dear residents of Kalka, I seek your cooperation, support, and blessings”, she shared a post on her account X.

Former minister Anil Vij, who secured a ticket from Ambala Cantt, and his supporters celebrated with fervour. Vij vowed to work harder and earn the trust of the people, promising, “We will work even harder, earn more people’s trust, take the party further, and put in even more effort.” Shruti Choudhary, who received her ticket from Tosham, emphasized her extensive electoral experience and the strong developmental work done by her family in the region. She expressed confidence in receiving robust support from the local populace. Among 67 candidates announced by the BJP, 25 were new faces as the party has dropped 9 sitting MLAs and several senior leaders to give opportunity to new contenders.

In a strategic move ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, the Congress party and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have finalized an alliance, according to sources. The agreement includes a seat-sharing arrangement in which Congress will allocate five seats to AAP, with one seat each designated for the Samajwadi Party and the Left.

Seat-Sharing Formula

The alliance follows a 5-1-1 formula: five seats for AAP, one for the Samajwadi Party, and one for the Left. This arrangement will be further discussed in a Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting scheduled for 6 pm today.

Congress and AAP Move Towards Coalition

Earlier in the day, Haryana Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria confirmed that discussions with AAP were progressing. He emphasized the importance of unity to prevent vote division in the battle against the BJP. “We are holding talks with INDIA alliance parties and will announce the final decision soon,” Babaria said. A decision on Vinesh Phogat’s candidacy is also expected today.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh welcomed Rahul Gandhi’s favorable remarks about the alliance. Singh highlighted that defeating the BJP is the priority. An official decision on the alliance will be made by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal after discussions with key party members.

Political Impact and Previous Alliances

Both Congress and AAP aim to enhance their influence in Haryana, where the election will take place on October 5, with results to be declared on October 8. The two parties had previously formed alliances for the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, Gujarat, Goa, Delhi, and Chandigarh.

BJP Criticizes the Alliance

In response to the alliance, BJP MP Yogender Chandolia criticized the Congress-AAP coalition. Chandolia pointed out that the previous alliance in Delhi was unsuccessful and accused the parties of seeking alliances due to their weakened positions. He urged Congress to address internal party issues before pursuing further alliances.

As the Haryana Assembly elections approach, the evolving dynamics between Congress and AAP will be closely watched, potentially reshaping the political landscape in the state.

</excerpt>

The Congress party’s screening committee for the Haryana Assembly elections is set to begin its four-day deliberations from Tuesday, marking a critical phase in the selection of candidates for the upcoming polls. Originally scheduled for Monday, the meeting was postponed due to the Janmashtami festival.

Haryana Congress incharge Deepak Babaria confirmed, “The screening committee meeting will now be held on Tuesday, and the deliberations to decide the candidates will last for three to four days.”

Simultaneously, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has been conducting interviews with ticket aspirants. This team, led by senior leader Ajay Maken and comprising Manickam Tagore, Jignesh Mevani, and Srinivas BV, is tasked with narrowing down the list of potential candidates. The committee is expected to forward its recommendations to the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) after careful consideration.

According to party sources, ground surveys conducted with the help of private agencies will play a significant role in determining the final list of candidates. The focus is on winnability, as the party seeks to select contenders with the best chances of success.

In a strategic move, Babaria has also summoned all party MPs, one by one, to discuss potential candidates from the assembly constituencies within their respective Lok Sabha constituencies. This initiative underscores the importance of aligning local and national strategies to maximize the party’s electoral prospects.

However, the committee’s task is further complicated by the overwhelming response from aspirants, with 2,556 applications submitted for the 90 assembly seats. The central leadership has emphasized the need for selecting candidates who not only reflect diverse social backgrounds but also demonstrate unwavering loyalty to the party.

Adding to the complexity, the committee is awaiting a response from the Election Commission regarding a plea filed by the Haryana BJP president, seeking a brief postponement of the polls scheduled for October 1. This decision could impact the finalization of the Congress candidate list.

Amid these developments, senior Congress leaders from Haryana, including Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kumari Selja, Randeep Surjewala, and Capt Ajay Yadav, have intensified their efforts to ensure their loyalists secure nominations. These leaders are running parallel campaigns across the state, each projecting their supporters as the most viable candidates, further heating up the internal race for tickets.

As the Congress inches closer to finalizing its candidate list, the party faces the herculean task of balancing internal dynamics while presenting a united front in the upcoming elections. The next few days will be crucial in shaping the party’s strategy and determining its prospects in Haryana.

</excerpt>

Without doubt, Vinesh Phogat, the wrestler who was arbitrarily disqualified from the Paris Olympics, after she was poised to get a crucial medal for India, is the darling of the entire country. The Haryana grappler has conducted herself with unmatched dignity and grace and her statement after her return from France, has touched many hearts. As India’s first Olympic Gold Medal winner, Abhinav Bindra had mentioned, Vinesh may have not got the medal for her Cabinet, but she shall figure in many stories which would inspire future generations to aspire for bringing glory to the country.

The common perception is that Vinesh was wrongly denied her due, though the reality is that under the rules, as they exist, she was debarred from the games, for a violation which was difficult to overlook by the authorities. It is another matter that many unusual things have happened in the Olympics in the past and the United States, which is the leading country in track and field events, has forced the officials to take decisions which were ultimately in favour of their athletes. The controversy over the 100 metre sprint gold going to Carl Lewis, a champion sportsman after the disqualification of Canadian Ben Johnson on doping charges, continues to be the talking point of those who were at Seoul on that particular day in 1988. Over the years, there have been many unfair decisions in the boxing arena and many pugilists who performed well, were declared losers, leading to protests, which remained unheard.

The story of Vinesh Phogat, will be in the Olympic folklore so far as Indians are concerned, and the general perception is that more than the rules, she was the victim of dirty politics of the Wrestling Federation, since she along with some other wrestlers had agitated against the powerful Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing of sexual misconduct. The matter is in court and the final word on the issue is still not out. However, there is a very strong speculation that she could make a debut in the political arena, in the wake of Assembly elections in Haryana, and because of her immense popularity. The origin of these conjectures, are linked to the fact that even while she was in Paris awaiting the final verdict on her appeal, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had spoken about a possible Rajya Sabha berth for her.

The current Haryana CM, Nayeb Singh Saini, also had assured that Vinesh would be treated at par with any sportsperson getting a Gold at the Olympics and would be accordingly honoured. Soon after she arrived in the national capital, Rohtak Lok Sabha MP, Deepender Singh Hooda was amongst thousands of people who had gone to receive her at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The TV grabs of her arrival with Deepender flanking her, gave enough fodder to the political class to assume that she may be headed for a new career.

Three days ago, Vinesh and her husband visited the Hooda household in New Delhi and were warmly received. Bhupinder Hooda was repeatedly asked whether Vinesh would be contesting the polls, and his reply was simple that the choice was hers. However, he added, that sportspersons were national assets and belonged to the country. Their joining politics was something they had to themselves decide. Although the speculation is very much there, on her part, Vinesh has not made any declaration about her entry into politics. Her numerous fans would want her to prepare for the next Olympics and get India honours on the sports field. The question remains whether the grappler, who had tweeted that she had decided to give up on wrestling, after her disqualification, revise her decision? In the past, sportspersons who have excelled on the field, have not been as exceptional while pursuing politics.

Sachin Tendulkar is an example and though he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, he has been reluctant to contribute to the deliberations. Similarly, PT Usha, the current Indian Olympic Association president and a legendary athlete in her heydays, finds herself at sea in Parliament. Indian Cricket Coach Gautam Gambhir was elected to the Lok Sabha from East Delhi, but failed to make a mark in the House in the manner in which he excelled as an Opener. Harbhajan Singh is a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, and similarly does not participate in the debates as much as he should. Aslam Sher Khan, the Hockey fullback, joined politics, but not many know about his contribution to the sports which helped India in major tournaments.

Olympic Silver Medalist Vijender Singh’s foray in politics has ended in disappointment and the same goes for another silver medalist, Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. The short point is that if Vinesh Phogat has to join politics, she should weigh all the pros and cons and be mentally prepared to take the plunge. And in case, she chooses to get into the Haryana Assembly election fray, she should ideally contest as an independent with the major political parties not setting up any candidate against her, to acknowledge her contribution to the sports. That way, she would remain neutral and also supporters of both the Congress, BJP and other parties would be happy to back her in the future as well. The Centre could also consider nominating her in one of the vacant nominated seats in the Rajya Sabha. Whatever, she decides shall have to be respected, though the expectations from large number of Indians, that she should get us a medal from the next Olympics, would always be there.

</excerpt>

World Boxing Champion Saweety Boora has announced her intention to contest in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Barwala assembly seat in Hisar.

Announcement and Event

Boora made this announcement during an event on Sunday in her maternal village, Sarsaud, which is part of the Barwala assembly seat. Her native village, Ghirai, falls in the Hansi assembly seat of Hisar. The event was organized by the people of Sarsaud and neighboring villages to honor Boora’s achievements.

Boora stated, “I am a farmer’s daughter, and the farmers will surely bless their daughter. I am a regular worker of the BJP, and I will fulfill any responsibility given to me by the party. Even if I don’t get a ticket, I will continue to work for the party.”

Confidence in Winning

Confident of her victory if given a ticket, Boora said, “Just as I made the country proud in sports and worked with the country’s interest in mind, I will also work with the country’s interest in mind in politics. I am ready to be the voice of women and daughters.”

She emphasized that more than her desire, the people of the Barwala assembly seat want her to contest the election. “In the event organized by Sarsaud and neighboring villages Bichpadi, Jevra, and Juglan, members of 36 communities living in Haryana were present, as were panchs and sarpanchs from 22 villages of the Barwala assembly seat. They all wanted me to contest the upcoming assembly elections from Barwala,” she added.

Political Background

The BJP has never won the Barwala assembly seat, which went to Jannayak Janta Party’s (JJP) Jogi Ram Sihag in the 2019 assembly polls. However, Sihag had a falling out with JJP leader Dushyant Chautala after the latter’s exit from the Haryana government and lent his support to the BJP’s Hisar candidate in the 2024 Parliamentary elections. Despite Congress candidate Jai Parkash leading over his BJP rival Ranjit Singh in six out of nine assembly segments of Hisar, Singh polled 11,657 votes more than Parkash, making Sihag’s claim to a BJP ticket stronger.

Boora’s Life and Achievements

Saweety Boora was born on January 10, 1993, in a family of farmers in Hisar. She grew up in Sarsaud and attended a government school between Sarsaud and Bichpadi villages. Initially excelling in Kabaddi and becoming a state-level player, she switched to boxing in 2009 at her father’s suggestion and has since achieved significant success in the sport.

Boora’s accolades include a silver medal in the 2014 World Boxing Championship in Korea, a silver in the 2022 Asian Championship in Jordan, a silver in the 2015 Asian Championship in China, and a bronze in Dubai in 2021. She won gold in the 2023 Women’s Boxing Championship by defeating Wang Lina of China in the light heavyweight category. A documentary about her journey, titled “Chhori Mukkebaaz,” was released on the OTT platform Stage.

Boora is married to Deepak Hooda, a Kabaddi player from Chamaria village in Rohtak, who has been part of the Indian team that won gold at the 2016 South Asian Games and has participated in all seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League.

Shift to BJP

Before joining the BJP, Boora was critical of the party. Last year, she supported the women wrestlers’ protest against the former Wrestling Federation of India chief over sexual harassment allegations and joined Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana in January.

In January 2024, Boora, influenced by PM Modi, joined the BJP along with her husband in Rohtak. She stated that she was impressed by the BJP’s policies, including the abrogation of Article 370, the construction of the Ram Temple, awarding Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh, and the increased facilities and budget for sports.

Boora’s entry into politics marks a significant move as she aims to leverage her achievements in sports and her new political alignment to make a difference in Haryana’s political landscape.

Abhay Singh Chautala, Secretary General of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), announced on Thursday that the INLD and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will join forces to contest the upcoming Haryana elections. During a press conference, Chautala stated, “In Haryana, we have decided to jointly fight the upcoming assembly elections. Today, the feeling of common people is to oust the BJP from power and keep the Congress party at bay, which looted the state for 10 years earlier.”

Chautala further accused Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda of being an “agent” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying, “Former CM and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda is an agent of the BJP. He has proved that he works as an agent…We will fulfil all the promises.”

BSP supremo Mayawati, in announcing the alliance, emphasized the parties’ commitment to removing the Congress and BJP, which she described as “anti-people” parties. “Bahujan Samaj Party and Indian National Lok Dal will fight the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana together with the resolve to defeat the anti-people parties and form a new coalition government, which was announced in a joint press conference in Chandigarh today with my full blessings,” she posted on X.

Mayawati added, “We have resolved to form a welfare government for all the sections of the society in Haryana. There has been complete unity and agreement in the distribution of seats etc. in this alliance by giving full respect to each other. I have full hope that this mutual unity will defeat the opponents with the blessings of the people and form a new government.”

Akash Anand, BSP national coordinator, expressed confidence in the coalition’s potential to deliver positive results in Haryana. “If you go to the villages and talk to the people, you will know how much anger and resentment is there among the people here, how their voices were not heard, how work was not done for them. We feel that the coalition government will be able to give very good results here. We are confident that we will form the government,” he told ANI.

Previously, Abhay Singh Chautala had met BSP president Mayawati at her residence in Lucknow on July 6. Akash Anand mentioned, “In that meeting, it had been decided that out of 90 assembly seats in Haryana, the BSP will contest on 37 seats.”

In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 seats, the Congress secured 31 seats, the JJP obtained 10 seats, and the INLD managed to win 1 seat. The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled to be held this year for all 90 seats.

</excerpt>

Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan expressed confidence on Saturday in the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming Assembly Elections in Haryana, asserting that the party would emerge victorious due to the lack of a political agenda among the opposition.

Speaking at a press conference in Panchkula, Haryana, Pradhan stated, “The assembly elections in Haryana are scheduled for October, and we firmly believe that the results will favor the BJP.” Reflecting on the recent Lok Sabha elections, he attributed Narendra Modi’s third term as Prime Minister partly to Haryana’s electoral contribution. “In the last two assembly elections, Haryana has consistently placed its trust in the BJP. We are confident that in October, the BJP will retain power,” he added.

Highlighting BJP’s track record in Haryana, Pradhan emphasized, “Over the past decade, we have diligently served the people of Haryana. The PM has articulated the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, and Haryana’s contribution towards this goal is assured.”

Taking aim at the Congress, Pradhan criticized their recent actions in the Rajya Sabha, accusing them of obstructionism rather than constructive opposition. “Their move to contest the Speaker’s post unnecessarily reflects their intent to disrupt rather than contribute positively,” he remarked.

In the upcoming elections, BJP will seek to build on its performance, having secured 40 seats out of 90 in the 2019 Assembly elections, while the Congress won 31 seats. In 2014, BJP secured 47 seats compared to Congress’s 15 seats, marking a significant shift from previous elections where Congress held a stronger position.

“Our analysis suggests that the opposition lacks a clear political agenda, resorting instead to confusion, misinformation, and doubt,” Pradhan concluded, reaffirming BJP’s readiness for the electoral contest in Haryana.
