The attack, suspected to be linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, occurred just hours after an attempted arson at the same location.
</excerpt>

Police are looking into a brazen shooting at a Surrey business belonging to Raghbir Singh Nijjar, the cousin of murdered Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The shooting came just hours following a different attempted vandalism at the premises, raising fears of an extortion campaign linked to Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Shots Fired at Surrey Just Hours After Vandalism Attempt

Surrey Police Service (SPS) stated that the shooting occurred at approximately 3:00 AM on Thursday, June 19, at a business in the 12800 block of 116 Avenue. Officers discovered numerous bullet casings and established that property damage was caused to buildings and automobiles.

“On June 19 at 3:00 am, SPS Frontline officers were dispatched to a business in the 12800 block of 116 Avenue for a report of a shooting. Officers responded and found several shell casings and property damage to buildings and vehicles,” the SPS said.

No one was injured, although staff were on the scene at the time shots were fired, police said. “Officers concluded that nobody suffered any injuries despite staff being on the scene when shots were fired,” police added.

Business Owner Reports Extortion Threat by Bishnoi Gang

The targeted business is a trucking firm supposedly owned by Raghbir Singh Nijjar, reportedly connected to Hardeep Singh Nijjar — a listed Khalistani terrorist who was killed in British Columbia in June 2023. Raghbir Singh blamed the Lawrence Bishnoi gang for the attack based on a reported extortion threat.

He also made known that the same shooting was directed at his home in August last year, further deepening his conviction that the same criminal gang is behind the attacks.

Police Connect Incidents Under Investigation

The police observed that the shooting occurred barely 24 hours after another attack on the same premises. At 3:50 AM on June 18, unidentified suspects tried to burn vehicles with gasoline but were chased away by in-house security.

SPS’s Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) is working on the case, and officers are actively investigating connections to other crime incidents and possible motives. The investigation continues.

</excerpt>

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed hope on Friday to rebuild relations with Canada based on “mutual trust and sensitivity.” The statement follows a period of strained ties after the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and India’s concerns over extremist elements operating on Canadian soil.

Downturn in Bilateral Ties

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal attributed the deterioration in India-Canada relations to the “licence that was given to extremist and secessionist elements” in Canada. He made this statement during a media briefing in response to a question about the current state of bilateral ties following a recent visit to India by the Canadian intelligence chief.

Fallout from Nijjar’s Killing

Relations between India and Canada reached a low point after former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of being involved in Nijjar’s murder in Surrey, British Columbia, in September 2023. India rejected the allegation as “absurd” and pointed out that Canada has failed to provide evidence to substantiate the claim.

Path Forward for India-Canada Relations

Despite the strained ties, India hopes to restore relations by focusing on mutual trust and addressing concerns about extremism. The MEA remains committed to maintaining dialogue and fostering better understanding between the two nations.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister’s Statement Stirs Controversy

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has for the first time publicly acknowledged the presence of Khalistani supporters in Canada, amid escalating diplomatic tensions between Ottawa and New Delhi. Speaking during Diwali celebrations at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Trudeau stated that while there are many supporters of Khalistan in Canada, they do not represent the entire Sikh community. His comments followed the deteriorating relations after the June 2023 killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia.

Trudeau’s remarks were made in the context of growing unrest between the two nations. While acknowledging pro-Khalistan sentiments within Canada, he also drew a parallel, noting that the presence of supporters of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Canada does not reflect the views of all Hindu Canadians. His statement has sparked reactions from both supporters and critics.

Violence and Protests Intensify in Canada

The tensions have manifested in physical confrontations, including clashes at a temple in Brampton, Ontario, where some protesters waving Khalistani flags clashed violently with worshippers. The chaotic scenes, which included fistfights and the use of poles, were widely shared on social media. Trudeau condemned the violence, affirming that every Canadian has the right to practice their faith peacefully.

The Indian government has expressed deep concern over the safety of Indian nationals in Canada, particularly after the violent disruptions outside the consular event. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the actions of anti-India groups and reiterated its concerns over the safety of Indian citizens in Canada.

Ongoing Dispute Over Nijjar’s Murder

The diplomatic crisis between India and Canada was ignited by Trudeau’s accusations in September 2023 that India may have been involved in the murder of Nijjar, a designated terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA). Canada’s allegations have caused an ongoing rift, with India vehemently denying any involvement.

Trudeau’s administration has claimed that intelligence, rather than conclusive proof, suggested India’s role in the killing. However, India has repeatedly rejected the claims, arguing that they are politically motivated and linked to Canada’s failure to address the rise in pro-Khalistan sentiments within its borders. Canadian police had also suggested that six Indian diplomats were involved, a claim India dismissed as “preposterous.”

Canada’s Intelligence vs. Hard Evidence

In a public inquiry last month, Trudeau admitted that Canada had no solid, “hard evidentiary proof” of India’s involvement in Nijjar’s killing, and that his government’s statements were based on intelligence from Canadian agencies and possibly from its Five Eyes allies. Trudeau explained that Canada had refrained from making the allegations public at the G20 summit in September 2023, opting instead for cooperation with India’s security services.

The Indian government has long accused Canada of providing a safe haven for pro-Khalistani extremists, posing a security threat to India. Despite multiple exchanges between the two nations, including at international forums like the G20 Summit, India has criticized Canada for not taking adequate action against Khalistani groups operating on Canadian soil.

Diplomatic Standoff Continues

The diplomatic stand-off remains unresolved, with both countries entrenched in their positions. The Trudeau government faces increasing pressure to address the rising pro-Khalistan sentiment in Canada, while India continues to challenge Canada’s handling of the matter. As tensions simmer, it remains to be seen how this dispute will impact the broader international relations between the two nations.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has predicted that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will lose the upcoming federal election. Musk reacted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “He will be gone in the upcoming election,” in response to a post about the collapse of Germany’s government.

Trudeau Faces Growing Challenges

As a result of his current minority government, Trudeau’s position has become increasingly fragile. Since he has led the Liberal Party since 2013, the 2025 election will be a significant test for him. Moreover, his party will face strong competition from the Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilievre, and the New Democratic Party (NDP), led by Jagmeet Singh. Additionally, the Bloc Quebecois and the Green Party will also contend for seats.

Musk Criticizes Global Leaders

Meanwhile, Musk also criticized German Chancellor Olaf Scholz following the collapse of Germany’s three-party coalition. He called Scholz “a fool” on X, referring to the political turmoil after Scholz dismissed his finance minister in an effort to stabilize the government. Musk’s comments reflect his dissatisfaction with global leadership.

US Election Results Affect Canada

Furthermore, the Republican victory in the US elections has had a ripple effect in Canada. Maxime Bernier, leader of the People’s Party of Canada, has sharply criticized Trudeau’s immigration policies. He argued that Canada must overhaul its economic and immigration strategies to remain competitive with the US.

Bernier warned that failure to act could lead to economic decline, a loss of talent, and diminished investment in Canada.

Canada-India Relations Strain

In addition to domestic challenges, Trudeau faces international pressure due to strained relations with India. India has expressed concern over extremism and anti-India activities in Canada. Tensions between the two countries escalated after Canadian officials made unsubstantiated allegations about the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In response, India recalled its High Commissioner from Canada.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack on a Hindu temple in Canada and urged Canadian authorities to take action against the intimidation of Indian diplomats.

In conclusion, Trudeau’s leadership is under increasing pressure both domestically and internationally. With mounting opposition in Canada and growing tensions with India, the 2025 election will serve as a crucial test of his political future.

</excerpt>

Recalled Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, recently revealed harrowing details about an attack by pro-Khalistani extremists in Alberta, where assailants wielded sharp weapons, including what was allegedly a kirpan. Despite the presence of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and local law enforcement, the extremists came alarmingly close, prompting police intervention to whisk Verma to safety. Verma described facing repeated threats and intimidation tactics, from aggressive slogans outside consular offices to personal effigy burnings, meant to provoke fear and disrupt diplomatic work.

Amid escalating tensions, Verma has accused the Canadian government of indirectly supporting Khalistani extremists, even suggesting some extremists are treated as “deep assets” by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). This comment has further strained relations as Verma criticized Canada’s inaction on these groups, arguing it emboldens anti-India activities. The incident marks a high point in the India-Canada diplomatic dispute, following Canada’s claims that Verma and other diplomats were involved in the assassination of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Verma vehemently denied these accusations, labeling them politically motivated and lacking substantive evidence.

This diplomatic rift has significant implications, as Canada’s Foreign Minister, Mélanie Joly, warned of heightened scrutiny on Indian diplomats, while India maintains that Canada’s approach risks encouraging separatist sentiment within its borders. The controversy reflects broader security concerns, with both countries expelling diplomats as they grapple with national security interests and accusations of interference.

The diplomatic situation remains tense, with ongoing calls for both nations to address each other’s security concerns while respecting sovereignty and national interests. This recent incident underscores the need for heightened international dialogue and security cooperation between Canada and India to resolve escalating disputes and prevent future escalations.

Malik, linked to the 1985 Air India bombing, was killed in 2022, while Nijjar was shot in 2023. Their deaths may be connected, reflecting deep political and ideological divisions over Khalistani separatism.
</excerpt>

Assassination Shakes Canada and Unravels a Dark History

The shocking murder of Ripudaman Singh Malik, an accused in the infamous 1985 Air India bombing, sent ripples through the Canadian public when he was gunned down outside his business in Surrey, British Columbia, on July 14, 2022. Malik, 75, had been acquitted in 2005 of involvement in the terrorist attack that claimed 329 lives and was linked to pro-Khalistan extremists. His assassination is now entangled in a web of historical events, political strife, and tensions within the Sikh community, especially regarding the role of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Investigation and Arrests

Following Malik’s murder, Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez, both with known gang affiliations, were arrested and later pled guilty to second-degree murder. Prosecutor Matthew Stacey disclosed that they had been hired to kill Malik but refrained from revealing who commissioned the assassination. During their guilty plea, a dramatic altercation between the two required intervention from security. Malik’s family expressed their profound loss, emphasizing that justice remains incomplete without the true orchestrators behind the assassination.

Nijjar Connection and Diplomatic Fallout

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, leader of the Khalistan Tiger Force, was involved in an escalating feud with Malik leading up to his own murder in June 2023. The animosity arose from Malik’s public support for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the approval he received to print copies of the Sikh holy text, which angered pro-Khalistani factions. After Nijjar was shot dead, Canadian authorities speculated that his killing could have been retaliatory for Malik’s assassination. However, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s explosive claims in Parliament, accusing the Indian government of orchestrating Nijjar’s murder, have severely strained diplomatic relations between Canada and India, with both nations expelling diplomats amidst ongoing investigations. The Malik family continues to seek answers while the ramifications of these events echo through the international community.

Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has issued a warning, urging people not to fly on Air India flights between November 1 and November 19. He claimed there could be an attack during these dates, which mark the 40th anniversary of the “Sikh genocide.”

Pannun, who holds dual citizenship in Canada and the US, is the founder of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), an organization pushing for a separate Sikh state. He had made similar threats around the same time last year, following a pattern of issuing such warnings.

Amidst Rising Tensions Between India and Canada

This recent threat comes at a time of heightened tensions between India and Canada, following Canadian accusations that India targeted Khalistani elements, including the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Meanwhile, Indian airlines have received several bomb threat calls recently, though all have turned out to be hoaxes.

Past Incidents and Legal Actions

In November 2023, Pannun released a video warning that Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport would be closed on November 19, urging people not to fly on Air India that day. For this, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) charged him with criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between religious groups, and violating the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Pannun also made threats against Parliament last December, following reports of a foiled plot to kill him. He targeted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav earlier this year, calling for attacks on Republic Day.

Terrorist Designation

Since July 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs has designated Pannun as a terrorist for his secessionist activities through SFJ. The group was banned in India in 2019 as an “unlawful association” for promoting anti-national activities.

Ongoing Tensions With the US

In a separate development, on October 17, the United States charged a former officer of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) for allegedly planning to murder Pannun, a claim India has denied, calling the accusations baseless.

</excerpt>

As the diplomatic tensions between India and Canada escalate, Canadian journalist Daniel Bordman has raised concerns over Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s leadership and credibility. According to Bordman, there is a significant loss of trust in Trudeau among both Canadians and the Indian government, further deepening the rift between the two nations.

India Recalls Diplomats, Reflecting Widening Divide

Bordman pointed out that the Indian government’s decision to recall its High Commissioner and other diplomats signals the gravity of the situation. He highlighted the involvement of Khalistani elements, stating, “There are elements within the Khalistani apparatus… They are taking this as a total victory and slamming India.”

Canadian Public Disillusionment with Trudeau

Bordman emphasized that many Canadians are increasingly disillusioned with Trudeau’s handling of the diplomatic fallout. “Vast majority of Canadians are incredibly fed up with this government. (They) don’t believe the institutions, don’t see the media as credible, don’t see Justin Trudeau as credible,” Bordman said, adding that many Canadians may even sympathize with India in this conflict.

Diplomatic Freeze: India-Canada Relations on Hold

Bordman suggested that India has effectively “paused” its relations with Canada until there is a leadership change. He described the current situation as “cryostasis” for India-Canada relations, saying, “The state of the India-Canada relationship right now would be cryostasis… I think the Indians have kind of just put Canada in a cryo pod until we get a new government.”

He further remarked that the Indian government does not consider Trudeau to be a reasonable leader, especially given his alliance with Jagmeet Singh, whom Bordman described as “openly hostile” toward India.

Prolonged Diplomatic Standoff Predicted

Bordman predicted that the diplomatic freeze could last at least another year unless Canada sees an early election. He suggested that a new government, particularly a conservative one with an anti-terrorism and pro-India stance, might take a different approach to relations with India. “When there’s a new government… I think things will light up again,” he said.

Allegations and Expulsions Deepen the Conflict

The diplomatic rift has intensified following allegations by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Mike Duheme, claiming criminal activity linked to Indian government agents. This led to both nations expelling diplomats from each other’s embassies. India, in response to Canada’s actions, summoned Canada’s Charge d’Affaires Stewart Wheeler, strongly rejecting Canada’s allegations against its diplomats and officials, calling them “baseless” and part of Trudeau’s political agenda.

Accusations Against Trudeau’s Government

India has accused Trudeau’s government of fostering an environment that enables extremists and terrorists to threaten Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada. The relationship between the two countries further deteriorated after Trudeau alleged Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, claims that India has strongly denied, calling them “absurd” and “motivated.”

In conclusion, the diplomatic standoff between India and Canada remains unresolved, with tensions likely to persist unless there is a change in leadership in Canada. The ongoing conflict has raised concerns about the future of bilateral relations, trade, and cooperation between the two nations.

</excerpt>

Indian and Canadian officials have been engaged in several rounds of discussions in recent months regarding the killing of Khalistani activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Among these meetings were at least two high-level talks between Canada’s former intelligence chief, David Vigneault, and a senior Indian intelligence official, conducted in a third country, sources familiar with the matter revealed.

David Vigneault, who led the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) until his retirement on July 4, met with the Indian official after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections. Vanessa Lloyd has since taken over as the interim CSIS director.

India’s high commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, also engaged in four meetings with Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Advisor, Nathalie G. Drouin, this year. These discussions were described as “amicable” and focused on Nijjar’s case.

Nijjar, who was shot dead in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18 of the previous year, was declared a terrorist by India in 2020. The Indian government has rejected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of a possible connection between Indian agents and Nijjar’s death as “absurd.”

A spokesperson for CSIS confirmed that the director had traveled to India but did not provide further details, citing operational security concerns. The Indian external affairs ministry has not commented on the meetings.

In June, it was reported that Vigneault made two unannounced visits to India earlier this year, in February and March, to discuss the Nijjar case. These developments come amid a broader shake-up within India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), including the removal of officials connected to a “murder for hire” plot targeting Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. This follows earlier reshuffles involving Vikram Yadav of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and other officials.

</excerpt>

A member of Parliament with Liberal affiliations has criticized the recent parliamentary decision to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist and India-designated terrorist who was killed. Chandra Arya, representing Nepean, expressed dissatisfaction with his government’s stance, citing concerns about Nijjar’s alleged extremist connections as reported by The Globe and Mail.

In an interview with the newspaper, Arya highlighted the exclusivity of parliamentary honors, stating that such moments of silence are typically reserved for individuals who have significantly served Canadians throughout their lives, which he believes does not apply to Nijjar. He questioned the decision to elevate Nijjar’s status, particularly considering “credible allegations” linking his killing to a foreign government.

MPs from various parties observed a moment of silence on June 18 to mark the anniversary of Nijjar’s death outside a gurdwara in Surrey, BC. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had linked Nijjar’s killing to “credible allegations” involving the Indian government, leading to strained diplomatic relations.

Arya, known for advocating stronger ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and opposing Khalistan separatist movements, raised concerns about Nijjar’s background. He pointed to findings suggesting Nijjar’s entry into Canada using a fake passport, promotion of violence, association with Sikh militants supporting Khalistan in Punjab, presence on Canada’s no-fly list, and multiple police questioning instances.

The MP also expressed worries about Khalistan supporters spreading conspiracy theories about the 1985 Air India bombing, which claimed 329 lives, mostly Canadians. Canadian inquiries linked the bombing to Sikh extremists, including Talwinder Singh Parmar identified as the mastermind, who was later killed by Indian police.

Recent disruptions at Air India bombing memorials by Khalistan supporters were condemned by victims’ families. Deepak Khandelwal, who lost his sisters in the bombing, criticized the recognition of Nijjar by the Trudeau government, fearing it could embolden extremist elements.

While the NDP defended honoring Nijjar as a Canadian killed on Canadian soil allegedly by a foreign government, the Conservative Party declined to comment. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland reiterated Canada’s commitment to protecting Canadians’ rights, while a Concordia professor dismissed allegations implicating the Indian government in the Air India bombing as “totally, totally absurd.”

</excerpt>

Chandra Arya, a Canadian MP of Indian origin, mentioned the 1985 Air India bombing, which killed 329 people, and warned that the ideology behind the attack persists among some in Canada. He called on everyone to join memorial services on June 23, marking the 39th anniversary of the 1985 Kanishka flight bombing by Khalistani separatists.

MP Arya commented after the Canadian Parliament observed the first death anniversary of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani terrorist, with a moment of silence in the House of Commons.

In his speech, Arya mentioned, “Recent celebration of the assassination of Hindu Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by Khalistan supporters, glorifying violence and hate, shows that the dark forces have been energized again and point to dreadful times ahead. Hindu-Canadians are rightfully concerned. I stand in solidarity with the families of the victims of Air India bombing.” The MP expressed his concern about Khalistani supporters celebrating the killing of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

While discussing the incident he said, “June 23 is the National Day for remembrance of victims of terrorism. 39 years back on this day, Air India flight 182 was blown up mid-day by a bomb planted by a Canadian Khalistani Terrorist. It killed 329 passengers and crew members and is the largest mass killing in Canadian history.”

He stated in Parliament that the recent remembrance of the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by Khalistani supporters, celebrating violence and hatred, indicate a resurgence of troubling forces and suggest challenging times ahead. He expressed solidarity with the families affected by the Air India bombing.

On June 23, 1985, Air India’s ‘Kanishka’ Flight 182 exploded and crashed 45 minutes before it was due to land at London’s Heathrow Airport. The event led to loss of all 329 lives aboard, predominantly Canadians of Indian descent. The incident was accused on Sikh militants retailiation to for ‘Operation Bluestar’.

Nijjar was a Khalistani Terrorist with many criminal cases pending against him in India.
Nijjar was seen with AK-47, and also incited diaspora for the secessionist movement of Khalistan in India. pic.twitter.com/y7eQOpzVqG

This development comes around the time, when just last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Justin Trudeau interacted on the sidelines of G-7 summit. Later in his interview with CBC News Ottawa, he declared, that he ‘sees’ an opportunity in engaging with India.

Earlier, canada had detained four Indians in connection with the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

While India on the other hand, has always emphasized, that there has been no formal or diplomatic communication from Canada concerning the assassination of the Sikh separatist or the detention of the four individuals involved.

But this month, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had congratulated PM Modi on his re-election, saying, ‘Congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his electoral victory. Canada stands ready to work with his government to advance the relationship between our nations’ peoples—anchored to human rights, diversity, and the rule of law.’

Responding to this congratulatory message, PM Modi said, ‘India looks forward to working with Canada based on mutual understanding and respect for each other’s concerns.’

Brief On the Killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar

In the previous year of June 2023, The NIA designated Khalistani Terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was fatally shot outside a Gurdwara in Surrey at British Columbia.

Thus, resulting in increased tensions between India and Canada, when Trudeau after G20 conclusion, alleged ‘potential’ hand of Indian agents in Nijjar’s murder.

Later, reacting to Trudeau allegations, India called these allegations as ‘absurd & motivated’

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will journey to Italy on Thursday to attend the G7 Summit on June 13 and 14, marking his first international trip since securing a record-equalling third term.

As an Outreach Country, India joins the Summit alongside the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, France, and the European Union. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni extended the invitation, marking India’s 11th Summit presence and Modi’s fifth consecutive attendance.

On the sidelines, Modi is slated for bilateral discussions with G7 leaders, including US President Joe Biden. On Wednesday, National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan said that Biden and PM Modi would likely “have the opportunity to encounter one another” on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy.

“He (Biden) expects to see Prime Minister Modi here. It’s up to the Indians to formally confirm his attendance, but our expectation is that the two of them will have the opportunity to encounter one another. The nature of that encounter is still fluid because so much of the schedule is fluid,” Sullivan told reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to Italy to attend the G7 Summit, along with the US president.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra announced in New Delhi that PM Modi will embark on his first overseas trip to Italy on Thursday after securing a third consecutive term. Before his visit, a Gandhi statue in Italy was defaced by pro-Khalistani groups with a slogan referencing Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Indian authorities have addressed the issue with their Italian counterparts.

“We have the question relating to the vandalization of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. We have seen the reports of that and we have taken it up with the Italian authorities. We understand that suitable rectification has already taken place,” the Foreign Secretary said during the press conference.

On Tuesday, Kwatra confirmed that Modi will meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, but details of other bilateral meetings are still being finalized. Meanwhile, aboard Air Force One, Sullivan mentioned that Biden called Modi from Paris to congratulate him on his election victory and his third term as Prime Minister.

</excerpt>

One of the suspects in the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, has said in a social media video that he entered Canada on a ‘study permit’ which only took him days to obtain, Canada-based global news reported.

The accused, Karan Brar, in a video posted online in 2019, said he applied for a student visa through EthicWorks Immigration Services in Bathinda, in the Indian state of Punjab.
He said he received his study visa days later, according to a translation of his Punjabi-language statement, as per Global News.

The promotional video featuring Brar and a photograph of him, purportedly from Kotkapura, a city located north of Bathinda, were posted on EthicWorks’ Facebook page, as reported.

“Congratulations Karan Brar for the Canada study visa,” the caption below the video read. “One more happy client from Kotkapura,” reported Global News.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller has opted not to respond to inquiries regarding how the suspects entered Canada, although online posts suggest that Brar arrived on a student permit three years prior to the incident. According to another Facebook page allegedly belonging to Brar, he relocated to Edmonton on May 4, 2020, after commencing studies at Bow Valley College in Calgary on April 30, 2020, as reported by Global News. However, queries regarding this matter have yet to elicit a response from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Brar, aged 22, along with Karanpreet Singh, 28, and Kamalpreet Singh, 22, were apprehended in Edmonton on Friday. They face charges of murder and conspiracy and appeared in court in Surrey, British Columbia on Tuesday. Members of the Sikh Community from British Columbia reportedly packed a Surrey courtroom on Tuesday as the three Indian nationals accused of Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing made their initial court appearance via video, as per Globe and Mail, a Canada-based news website.

During the court proceedings, as the trio, clad in orange jumpsuits, appeared before the court, pro-Khalistani protesters outside the Surrey provincial court chanted slogans and brandished placards, blaming the Indian government for the killing.

Last week on Friday, the three men were arrested in Edmonton and are charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the June 2023 shooting of Nijjar, which significantly strained Canada’s relations with India.

Notably, relations between India and Canada have been tense since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian government agents of Nijjar’s killing. However, India has dismissed these accusations as “absurd” and “motivated.”

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was fatally shot outside a Gurdwara in Surrey in June last year. A video purportedly depicting his killing emerged in March this year, showing Nijjar being shot by armed individuals in what has been characterized as a “contract killing.”

Last week, Canadian authorities released photographs of all three individuals apprehended in connection with the killing of India-designated terrorist Nijjar last year, amidst an ongoing investigation into alleged ties to the Indian government. Alongside images of the three accused, Canadian police also disclosed photographs of the vehicle believed to have been utilized by the suspects in the period leading up to the homicide, in and around the Surrey area.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of Surrey RCMP had stated that on the morning of May 3, IHIT investigators, supported by members from the British Columbia and Alberta RCMP as well as the Edmonton Police Service, arrested the three men for the June 2023 killing of Nijjar.

</excerpt>

Harjit Singh Sajjan, Canada’s former minister of defence, categorically rejected recent accusations that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was forced to meet with Sikh activists during his 2018 visit to Punjab, India, calling them “not accurate.”

One thing I can tell you is that that report is not correct’, Sajjan said in an interview with the Canadian specialist television network CPAC. But I think it’s safe to say that India has spread a great deal of false information and misinformation about people in my nation, including my family and me.”

According to a report in The Globe and Mail, India allegedly insisted on Trudeau and Sajjan meeting with a government official during the 2018 visit to Punjab. This official reportedly raised concerns about Sikh separatists in Canada, including Hardeep Singh Nijjar, and provided a dossier containing the names of about 10 Sikh activists.

Sajjan highlighted the prevalence of misinformation and disinformation targeting individuals within Canada, including himself and his family. He emphasized the importance of Canadians having confidence in their independent police forces and intelligence services.

Minister Sajjan reaffirmed, “And one thing I can assure you is that our police forces are independent. And as a former police officer, I can definitely attest to that.”

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland echoed the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Canadians, particularly members of the Sikh community. She stressed the fundamental right to freely express oneself and acknowledged the concerns of Sikhs in light of recent arrests.

The diplomatic tensions between India and Canada escalated in 2023 after Trudeau accused Indian government agents of killing Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist by India. India dismissed the accusations as “absurd” and “motivated.”

Three men were arrested in Edmonton last week in connection with Nijjar’s shooting in June 2023, further straining relations between Canada and India. Members of the Sikh community protested outside a Surrey courtroom during the suspects’ first court appearance, expressing distrust in India’s government regarding Nijjar’s killing.

The suspects, Karan Brar, Karanpreet Singh, and Kamalpreet Singh, appeared in court, with Brar and Karanpreet Singh scheduled to appear again on May 21. Kamalpreet Singh is yet to decide on legal representation, and the court is awaiting a new date for his appearance.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was fatally shot outside a gurdwara in Surrey in June last year. While a video allegedly showing his killing surfaced in March this year, Canadian authorities have not shared evidence implicating India in the incident.

These three Indian nationals were apprehended from Edmonton and were charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

After the arrest, they were presented before Judge Delaram Jahani who questioned these suspects in brief. Later, both Brar and Karanpreet decided to appear again on May 21.

However, the court hasn’t decided on date for Kamaldeep Singh yet. And has sought a legal counsel as reported by Globe and Mail.

Later, all three of them, agreed for the proceedings in English, and each of them said that they understand the charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

However, if they are found not guilty, they will still be deported by as per Canada’s supreme court’s ruling in September.

As under this ruling, the nine-judges unanimously ruled that foreign national could be deemed inadmissible to Canada on security grounds.

During the court proceedings, numerous Khalistani supporters gathered at the courthouse, with approximately 100 individuals displaying Khalistani flags outside the building. They also held posters supporting Sikh separatism.

This development happens after India has recently rejected a fresh comment made by prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the killing of Nijjar on Khalsa Day event in Toronto on Sunday.

Later the Indian side opined, that these remarks once again illustrate the space which is provided to separatism, extremism, and violence.

New Low Reached In India-Canada’s Relations

As for the Indo-Canada relationship, the relation came under the strain following allegations made by Justin Trudeau in September last year.

Who accused Indian agents of the killing of 45-year-old Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In response, India dismissed these allegations as “absurd and “motivated.”

</excerpt>

Reaching a new low in India-Canada’s bilateral relations, Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly has recently declared that Ottawa continues to stand by the allegations that it was Indian agents who killed Indian-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

But what’s notable is, that so far, no proof or evidence has been hinted at New Delhi’s involvement in the killing.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Joly declared that an investigation is still ongoing into Nijjar’s killing. Which is currently being conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

In the end, she stated that Canada will continue to give protection to its citizens. Reports Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC).

“Canada’s position has always been clear. Our job is to protect Canadians and we stand by the allegations that a Canadian was killed on Canadian soil by Indian agents. Now, the investigation by the RCMP is being done.” said Joly.

Relationship With India

Talking about its relationship with India, the Canadian’s foreign minister further said that she won’t comment further in its relationship with India. Adding its always better to keep diplomacy under wraps.

Further declared that by protecting Canadians, they’ll continue to maintain their sovereignty and to protect rule of law.

“I won’t further comment and no other official from our government will further comment but I am telling do on the question of relationship with India is I think that is always better when diplomacy remains in private and Canada will continue to stand by first protecting Canadians, making sure that we also protect our sovereignty and, in the end, also we need to protect our rule of law.”- Joly.

Her statement was made days after the Canadian police arrested three Indian nationals accused of involvement in Nijjar’s murder.

Interestingly, the police have not talked about any link regarding India’s involvement till now.

</excerpt>

India strongly condemned pro-Khalistan activists in Canada for displaying an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in chains during a parade, urging the Justin Trudeau government to halt its support for criminal and secessionist elements.

The Indian side emphasized concerns for the security of Indian diplomats in Canada, demanding that Ottawa ensure they can fulfil their duties without fear. This incident marks a further deterioration in bilateral relations, strained since Trudeau accused Indian government agents of involvement in the killing of a Khalistani leader last year.

Pro-Khalistan elements escalated their anti-India provocation by featuring an effigy of Modi in chains and a cage at a Khalsa Day parade in Malton, Greater Toronto Area. The parade also saw Khalistan flags and separatist slogans. India expressed strong concerns about the “violent imagery” used by extremist elements in Canada against its political leadership.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s call for Canada to stop providing a safe haven to criminal and secessionist elements, recalling a float depicting the assassination of former premier Indira Gandhi last year. India remains worried about the security of its diplomatic representatives in Canada and expects the government there to ensure their safety.

Jaiswal emphasized that democratic societies should not tolerate the celebration or glorification of violence, urging countries to uphold the rule of law. Despite India’s repeated calls for action against pro-Khalistan elements, Canadian officials have cited freedom of expression, frustrating Indian efforts.

The parade’s float was organized by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), designated a terrorist entity by India, linking it to Trudeau’s recent comments on Canada’s commitment to protecting all citizens. Trudeau’s remarks followed the arrest of three Indian nationals in connection with the killing of pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The parade occurred after Trudeau addressed a similar event amid pro-Khalistan sentiments. SFJ plans a “Citizens Court of Canada” to probe Nijjar’s death, scheduled for June 18.

</excerpt>

The leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) in Canada, Jagmeet Singh, has once again claimed that the Indian government was involved in the murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, even though Canadian authorities have not found any evidence linking Nijjar’s death to India.

In return for backing on a number of important issues, Singh’s NDP has been assisting Justin Trudeau’s Liberal minority administration. Singh said there was Indian participation in the crime when Canadian police announced they had arrested three suspects in Nijjar’s death.

In a post on X, Singh wrote, “The Indian government hired assassins to murder a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil – at a place of worship. Today 3 arrests were made. Let me be clear – any Indian agent or state actor that ordered, planned or carried out this murder must be exposed and met with the full force of Canadian law. For Canada, democracy and free speech – there must be Justice for Hardeep Singh Nijjar.”

Last year, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau also accused the Indian government of involvement in the killing, a claim strongly refuted by India as “absurd and motivated.”

Canadian police have not presented any evidence linking the crime to India, despite speculation in the Canadian media. Earlier on Friday, Canadian police released photographs of the three individuals arrested in connection with Nijjar’s killing last year.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) named the three suspects, all Indian nationals, as Karanpreet Singh, 28, Kamalpreet Singh, 22, and Karan Brar, 22, and disclosed their arrest in Edmonton City, Alberta. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of Surrey RCMP stated that the trio was apprehended for Nijjar’s June 2023 killing in Surrey, facing charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy.

In a press conference, RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul stressed the ongoing investigation into Nijjar’s murder, indicating possible connections to the Indian government.

Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc refrained from confirming any link to the Indian government, directing inquiries to the RCMP.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was shot dead outside a Gurdwara in Surrey in June last year. A purported video of the incident surfaced in March this year, showing Nijjar being shot by armed individuals in what has been described as a “contract killing.”

Mandeep Mooker, an RCMP superintendent, stated in a televised briefing that they were exploring potential ties between the alleged assailants and the Indian government.

Assistant RCMP Commissioner David Teboul asserted the investigation’s continuity, suggesting the involvement of additional individuals in the murder.

The three who were apprehended in Edmonton, Alberta, and are reportedly Indian nationals residing in Canada on non-permanent resident permits.

Canadian police are in communication with their Indian counterparts regarding the case. Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karan Brar face charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy.

Citing involvement in internal affairs, New Delhi retaliated by seeking the dismissal of 41 of the 62 Canadian diplomats. Even said, India insists that Canada never offered solid proof of Nijjar’s murder, and tensions have partly decreased since then.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of Surrey RCMP announced on Friday that the three men were apprehended for Nijjar’s June 2023 killing in Surrey, a suburb of Vancouver. They now face charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

In addition to the suspects’ photographs, Canadian police released images of the vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects leading up to the homicide in Surrey.

During a news conference, RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul, responsible for the Federal Policing Program in the Pacific Region, emphasized the ongoing and active nature of the investigation into Nijjar’s murder. He refrained from commenting on specific evidence or motives but highlighted the ongoing investigations, including potential connections to the Indian government.

Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc deferred questions regarding connections to the Indian government to the RCMP, expressing confidence in Canada’s security apparatus.

Despite speculation in Canadian media, police have not provided evidence linking the crime to India. India has consistently denied any involvement, dismissing the allegations as baseless.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was fatally shot outside a Gurdwara in Surrey in June of the following year. The IHIT has been leading the investigation, collaborating with various agencies and support services across Canada.

Nijjar’s killing strained diplomatic relations between Canada and India, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accusing India of involvement, a claim India vehemently rejected as unfounded. </excerpt>

Canadian authorities have apprehended and charged three individuals in connection with the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a figure designated as a terrorist by India. This development unfolds against the backdrop of ongoing investigations probing potential links to the Indian government.

According to court records detailed by Canadian news outlet CTV News, Karanpreet Singh (28), Kamalpreet Singh (22), and Karan Brar (22) are each facing charges, including first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, pertaining to Nijjar’s demise.

India has consistently disavowed any involvement in Nijjar’s killing. In September 2023, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated that the Indian government had informed Canada that actions such as the assassination of Nijjar were not congruent with Indian government policy.

During a press briefing, RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul, who leads the Federal Policing Program in the Pacific Region, underscored the active nature of the ongoing investigation into Nijjar’s murder. While confirming the arrest and charging of the three suspects, Teboul refrained from divulging specific evidence or motives, emphasizing the meticulousness of the investigation.

Teboul also noted separate ongoing investigations, including potential connections to the Indian government. The allegations suggest that the conspiracy unfolded between May 1, 2023, and the day of Nijjar’s murder, spanning locations in both Surrey and Edmonton.

Scheduled updates on the case were announced by the BC RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team for Friday.

Nijjar’s assassination strained diplomatic relations between Canada and India, particularly after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau disclosed intelligence investigations hinting at a possible link between the Indian government and the killing.

Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc refrained from confirming any connection to the Indian government, directing inquiries to the RCMP. He expressed confidence in Canada’s security apparatus and emphasized the RCMP’s thorough approach to such matters.

Nijjar, designated as a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was fatally shot outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023. A video purportedly showing his killing emerged in March, depicting armed individuals executing what has been described as a ‘contract killing.’ Trudeau’s accusation against the Indian government concerning Nijjar’s assassination was denied by India, exacerbating diplomatic tensions.

</excerpt>

Canadian authorities have arrested individuals allegedly involved in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated as a terrorist by India, last June, as reported by CBC News. The investigation is also looking into potential connections between the alleged assailants and three other homicides in Canada. Authorities are expected to provide further details shortly. Nijjar was fatally shot outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18.

CBC’s report suggests that the detained individuals might be part of a purported assassination squad sanctioned by the Indian government, an allegation India consistently denies. In September 2023, India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, reiterated that the Indian government did not endorse such actions.

According to CBC, the arrested men entered Canada on temporary visas after 2021 and are purportedly affiliated with Lawrence Bishnoi, a detained gangster in India accused of orchestrating the killing of singer Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022.

Court documents, cited by CTV News, identify the arrested individuals as Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karan Brar, charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

These arrests occur against the backdrop of strained relations between India and Canada. Last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested Indian government involvement in Nijjar’s assassination, a claim India vehemently denies.

Earlier this month, a purported video depicting Nijjar’s killing emerged, showing armed assailants shooting him outside a Gurdwara in Surrey. Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was gunned down in what was described as a meticulously coordinated attack involving six individuals and two vehicles.

Tensions persist in India-Canada relations, with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemning pro-Khalistan slogans voiced at a public event attended by Trudeau on May 2. The ministry underscored Canada’s tolerance towards separatism, extremism, and violence, which not only impacts bilateral relations but also fosters an environment of lawlessness detrimental to its citizens. During Toronto’s Khalsa Day Celebrations, pro-Khalistan chants were audible in the presence of Trudeau and opposition leader Pierre Poilievre.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada acknowledged the controversy surrounding the June 18, 2018, murder of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia, but emphasised the value of cordial ties between India and Canada.

In an interview with reporters speaking Punjabi in Toronto, Trudeau emphasised the importance of both nations being the biggest democracies in the world, saying, “Canada and India are the two largest democracies in the world, us by size, them by people. And I think we can get along.”

In his response, Trudeau said, “It’s a problem in our relations with India because we cannot ignore that,” acknowledging the impact of Nijjar’s killing on those ties.

His comments came after attending a Khalsa Day event in Toronto, marked by the presence of pro-Khalistan elements and anti-India sentiments. Trudeau reiterated Canada’s stance on peaceful expression of beliefs, stating, “You get to support whatever beliefs you have, that’s part of what makes Canada a free country.”

Regarding India’s concerns over the Vaisakhi parade, Trudeau affirmed Canada’s commitment to addressing such concerns seriously but emphasized that political protests are allowed within the country.

Trudeau reiterated Canada’s stance against terrorism and violence while describing India as an important partner in various domains, including people-to-people relations, business ties, and cooperation on global issues like climate change. However, he indicated that the matter of Nijjar’s murder would continue to strain relations until resolved satisfactorily, stating, “We want to get through this challenging situation but there needs to be accountability.”

Relations between the two countries faced a setback in September following Trudeau’s remarks in the House of Commons regarding “credible allegations” of potential links between Indian agents and Nijjar’s killing.

</excerpt>

In his appearance before the public inquiry investigating foreign interference in Canada’s federal elections, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attributed India’s closeness to the previous Stephen Harper administration. He contrasted his own government’s stance by emphasizing its efforts to support minorities and their freedom of expression, even if it displeased their home nations.

Trudeau refrained from directly linking Indian authorities to meddling in Canadian elections, diverging from claims made by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) suggesting India’s involvement alongside China. Despite earlier allegations, Canadian officials clarified on Monday that there was no indication of Indian interference, a stance also upheld by India.

Addressing the commission, Trudeau asserted, “The principle [is] that anyone who comes to Canada from anywhere in the world has all the rights of a Canadian to be free from extortion, coercion, and interference from a country they left behind.” He cited the example of Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s case, highlighting his government’s commitment to safeguarding Canadians’ rights and freedoms.

Trudeau underscored that any notion suggesting the government wouldn’t uphold these rights was unfounded. His comments came during questioning by Prabjot Singh, representing the Sikh Coalition.

Nijjar, labeled a terrorist in India, was killed in 2023 in British Columbia. Trudeau announced an investigation into alleged ties between Indian officials and Nijjar’s killing, prompting a diplomatic dispute resulting in the expulsion of Canadian diplomats from India.

Initially tasked with investigating Chinese and Russian interference in past elections, the inquiry’s scope was expanded to include India. Led by Justice Marie-Josée Hogue, the inquiry aims to examine allegations of foreign meddling.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs dismissed any notion of interference in Canadian elections, labeling the accusations baseless and highlighting Canada’s purported interference in India’s internal affairs.

During cross-examination, Trudeau did not directly address allegations of Indian interference. When questioned about failing to act on repression by the Indian government during 2019-2021, he attributed it to the previous Conservative government’s close ties with India, contrasting it with his administration’s commitment to defending minority rights and freedom of expression.
