Anupam Kher And Hansal Mehta Clash Over The Accidental Prime Minister

Actor Anupam Kher and director Hansal Mehta got into a war of words over the 2019 film The Accidental Prime Minister. The controversy started when Hansal reacted to a tweet by journalist Vir Sanghvi, who called the film “one of the worst Hindi movies.” Vir tweeted, “If you want to remember the lies told about Manmohan Singh, rewatch The Accidental Prime Minister. It’s not only one of the worst Hindi films but also a prime example of how the media tarnished a good man’s name.” To this, Hansal reacted with “+100.”

Anupam Kher shot back quickly, branding Hansal Mehta a “hypocrite” for having supported Vir’s view as he argued that Hansal had been the creative director of the film and has been an integral part of its production. He questioned the objectivity of Hansal, who, as a professional, should take credit for his work and not distance himself from it. He further accused Hansal of appeasement through siding with Vir.

Hansal Mehta admitted to his professional role in the film but underlined that he was a person who could accept his mistakes. He said he was well within his rights to criticize the film without being asked to compromise his integrity. He apologized to Anupam if he had inadvertently hurt him. Hansal did not react to trolls; he invited Anupam to clear the air when he wanted.

Anupam played the role of Dr. Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister, directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, while Hansal was the supporting Naveen Patnaik. Starring Akshaye Khanna and Suzanne Bernert, it was still very badly criticized and went flop at the box office.

Hansal Mehta starts filming for ‘Gandhi’ in Gujrat

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is prepared to produce the eagerly awaited biopic, Gandhi. Filming has commenced, with the team commencing its first schedule in Gujarat. Production company Applause Entertainment informed fans on Instagram of the news and shared stills from the sets.

Sharing the photos, they wrote, “Capturing history in the making!#Gandhi filming now.”
This epic series, capturing the life and times of the Mahatma, is set to be an international production shot across various Indian and foreign locations.
Directed by Hansal Mehta and starring Pratik Gandhi, the multi-season series is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Applause Productions. Get ready for an immersive journey into an incredible life.
Hansal and Pratik have previously collaborated on the super hit show Scam 1992.
They are excited to see them collaborate on this new series.

Gandhi’s legacy on the big screens begins

The highly awaited biopic “Gandhi” is going to be directed by Hansal Mehta. The team started filming and is currently in Gujarat for its first schedule. Applause entertainment, the production house shared the news along with the pictures from the set.

This epic series will depict the life and times of the Mahatma in a variety of foreign and Indian settings. The multi-season series, which is helmed by Hansal Mehta and features Pratik Gandhi, is produced by Applause Entertainment in collaboration with Applause Productions.

Pratik and Hansal previously worked together on the wildly popular television program Scam 1992. They can’t wait to work together on this new series.

It’s being filmed as a “international production shot across various Indian and foreign locations,” according to the Instagram post. When we originally told you about the show in May 2022, Applause CEO Sameer Nair said in an interview that site scouting was taking place in South Africa, India, and the UK, all of which are home to Gandhi and are the subjects of the non-fiction works that serve as the show’s basis.

Although there isn’t a buyer linked at the moment, this is typical for an Applause project. High-end scripted series and movies are developed and produced by the Indian studio according to its business model, which then involves selling the final product to Indian streamers. Though we recently selected it as one of our 15 International TV Dramas to Watch in 2024, there is currently no information on where this one will wind up.

Gandhi Before India and Gandhi – The Years that Changed the World, two biographies by Indian historian and journalist Ramachandra Guha, which are among the most comprehensive ever written about the legendary political figure, were the source of inspiration for Applause Entertainment, which is producing in collaboration with its Applause Productions division.

‘Scam 2023 The Telgi Story’ Teaser Out

Makers of the upcoming series ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story’ on Friday night unveiled the official teaser.

Helmed by Tushar Hiranandani, the series is all set to stream on the OTT platform Sony Liv from September 2.

Veteran theatre artist Gagan Dev Riar will be seen headlining the show ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story’.

The Telgi Story is a follow-up to Hansal Mehta’s 2020 hit Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. ‘Scam 2003’ is adapted from the Hindi book ‘Reporter ki Diary’, authored by journalist Sanjay Singh, who broke the story of the scam back in the time.

Scam 2003 tells the story of Abdul Karim Telgi’s 2003 Stamp Paper Scam. The series promises to be an interesting watch as it follows Abdul Karim Telgi, who was born in Khanapur, Karnataka, and his journey to becoming the mastermind behind one of India’s most ingenious scams that spanned 18 states. The scam’s estimated value was around Rs. 20,000 crores.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is being lauded for his web series ‘Scoop’, which stars Karishma Tanna in the lead role.

‘Scoop’ is a character-driven drama adapted from the book “Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days in Prison” by Jigna Vora. The series delves into the gripping journey of Jagruti Pathak, an ambitious crime journalist whose life takes a dramatic turn when she is charged with the heinous murder of fellow journalist Jaideb Sen. The show takes us on a rollercoaster ride as Jagruti finds herself in a prison cell alongside the very individuals she once reported on. After the success of ‘Scoop’, Hansal Mehta, on Monday, announced a multi-year series partnership with Netflix. Taking this collaboration forward, he will create multiple series for Netflix in the coming years.

Excited about it, Hansal Mehta said, “As a filmmaker, the idea of creating diverse and dynamic stories constantly keeps me on my toes. What excites me about this partnership with Netflix, which is home to some of the finest talent, is the potential for my work to reach viewers across the world. After ‘Scam 1992’, filmmaker Hansal Mehta who is all set to come up with a new web series ‘Scoop’, on Thursday, unveiled the teaser and release date. Taking to Instagram, Mehta announced the release date of the upcoming series along with a teaser. Sharing the video, he wrote, “Excited to share that #Scoop which Mrunmayee, Matchbox Shots, Netflix and I have nurtured for nearly 3 years is releasing on June 2, 2023. This one’s very special.”

The teaser video featured Karishma Tanna and Zeeshan Ayyub in intriguing avatars, and there are some newspaper clippings from the whole Jagruti Pathak case. As soon as it was released, fans and industry friends chimed in the comment section. The lead of the series, Karishma Tanna wrote, “Sir,” with red heart emoji. One of the users wrote, “Sir, congratulations, eagerly waiting.”

Inspired by Jigna Vora’s book, ‘Behind The Bars In Byculla: My Days in Prison’, ‘Scoop’ is touted as a character drama that traces the journey of Jagruti Pathak, an ambitious crime journalist. Her world comes crashing down when she is charged for the heinous murder of a fellow journalist, Jaideb Sen, and ends up in a prison cell with those she once reported on.

Created by Hansal Mehta and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul, the first season will track crime journalist Jagruti Pathak. In pursuit of a career-defining story, she is caught between the powerful nexus of the police, the underworld, and the media, when she is charged with the murder of a fellow journalist. How does a headline-writing journalist become the headline?

Written by Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul and Mirat Trivedi, the human drama features Karishma Tanna, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Harman Baweja with Prosenjit Chatterjee.

The series will be streaming on Netflix from June 2.

Lootere’s first teaser is out and blowing the internet

The first look of Lootere, a web show directed by Hansal Mehta’s son, Jai Mehta, has been released . The show promises to be a gritty thriller and stars Rajat Kapoor in an important role.

The show that will be released on Disney+ Hotstar very soon and it features Vivek Gomber, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Rajat Kapoor, Deepka Tijori and Amruta Khanvilkar. The teaser clip opens with a long shot of a boat in the sea and Rajat Kapoor is seen holding a pair of binoculars on the ship. Soon, they are in the middle of a hijack and chaos and violence follows. The video also gives a sneak peek into behind-the-scenes of the show and we can see Hansal at work on the sets. The show is co-written by Jai along with Suparn Varma, Vishal Kapoor and Vaibhav Vishal.

Hansal shared the teaser on his Instagram page and wrote, “Proud to present this @jaihmehta directorial #Lootere. A tale of greed, survival, terror, and chaos-#HotstarSpecials #Lootere, coming soon. Apart from Lootere, Hansal Mehta’s next action-thriller, Faraaz, is lined up next. Earlier this month, the film was selected for the BFI London Film Festival 2022. It marks the debut of actor Zahan Kapoor and also casts Paresh Rawal’s son Aditya Rawal in a prominent role.

Veteran actor Mithilesh Chaturvedi passes away, filmmaker Hansal Mehta confirms

Veteran actor Mithilesh Chaturvedi passed away on 3 August after suffering a cardiac ailment.

Taking to Instagram Filmmaker Hansal Mehta on Thursday shared the unfortunate news of his demise.

Filmmaker Mehta dropped a picture of Mithilesh and wrote, “RIP Mithileshji”.

Moreover, his son-in-law Ashish, too, mourned the demise on Facebook by penning an emotional note.

“Aap duniya ke sbse ache pita the, aapne mujhe dhamaad nhi balki ek bete ki tara prem diya. Bhagwan aapki aatma ko shanti pradan kare (You were the best father in the world, you gave me love like your own son),” Ashish posted.

After learning about the death of Mithilesh Chaturvedi, his fans paid their heartfelt condolences.

“Well-known theatre and film actor #MithileshChaturvedi passes away after suffering heart ailment. May his departed soul rest in peace,” a social media user tweeted.

The actor has acted in various movies like ‘Koi Mil Gaya’, Asoka’, Gadar Ek Prem Katha’, and ‘Ready’. Reportedly, the actor also bagged a web series titled ‘Talli Jodd’.

Hansal Mehta to helm webseries ‘Gandhi’

The web series titled “Gandhi” by applause Entertainment is to be helmed by the filmmaker Hansal Mehta.

The two volumes, “Gandhi before India” and “Gandhi-The Years that Changed the World,” written by renowned historian and novelist Ramachandra Guha, will serve as the basis for the series.

Pratik Gandhi will be portraying Mahatma Gandhi in the series, and this is the third project jointly by Pratik Gandhi and Hansal Mehta after “Scam 1992” and “Baai.”

Hansal said, “When you speak of a historic and iconic figure like Mahatma Gandhi, there is already a great deal of responsibility on you as a filmmaker. Our vision for the series is to make it as true-to-life as possible. Supported by Ramachandra Guha’s work, we are confident and enthusiastic that we will bring audiences something to remember. With a common vision for this ambitious narrative, I am excited to kickstart a new journey, yet again with Sameer and the team at Applause.”

The project includes Siddhartha Basu on board as a historical consultant, factual advisor, and creative consultant. Siddhartha Basu is known as the “Father of the Indian television Quizzing.”

Applause will produce Gandhi at a high level for a worldwide audience and extensively film it in a number of Indian and other places. Gandhi is set around the time of the Indian Independence struggle.
