The 63rd match of the Indian Premier League 2024 between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium was abandoned due to rain on Monday. Both teams, KKR and GT, maintained their positions from before the match. Kolkata Knight Riders remain at the top with 19 points in 13 matches, securing their spot as the only team to qualify for the playoffs in this 17th edition of the league.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans hold the eighth position with only 10 points in 13 games and become the third team to be eliminated after Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Despite their current standing, they showcased impressive performances in the previous two seasons, winning the championship in 2022 and reaching the finals in 2023.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their inconsistent batting performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as most of their top-order batsmen struggled while the lower-order players rescued the team. In their match against Gujarat Titans (GT), PBKS managed only 142 runs in 20 overs, with their top five batsmen failing to make significant contributions except for Sam Curran (20) and Prabhsimran Singh (35). Despite a promising partnership between Curran and Prabhsimran, Riley Rossouw, Liam Livingstone, and Jitesh Sharma couldn’t sustain momentum. Shubman Gill fined Rs 12 Lakh for IPL Code of Conduct breach

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was found guilty of breaching the code of conduct in the match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday. His side maintained a slow over rate during the match and consequently, he was fined Rs 12 Lakh.

IPL in an official statement said, “Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh.”

Gill, this season, took charge of the team as the former captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), Hardik Pandya was traded to the Mumbai Indians (MI). Gill’s side won their first match against the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI). However, they couldn’t defeat the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their second match.

Former India bowler S Sreesanth believes the change in the captaincy of the Gujarat Titans (GT) could work in GT’s favour as he said that GT bowlers now will get more freedom to set their fields and execute plans. He added on to say that Hardik was an influential captain.

On Sunday, the last league final match of the TATA IPL 2023 is set to play between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans in Ahemdabad. CSK’s lead captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is set to play his 250th IPL match.

The D-day approaches, as the CSK will be playing against the Gujarat Titans in the finale of the Indian Premier League 2023. The match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. To make this occasion even more memorable, “Captain Cool’ will be making his 250th IPL appearance, his 11th final as a player, and his 10th as a skipper.

No other player has played 250 IPL matches, and Dhoni is the first player to do so. Dhoni has made the most appearances in IPL finals as a player and as a captain.

In the IPL, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played for the Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant. In 249 IPL matches so far, Dhoni has scored 5,082 runs at an average of 39.09 and a strike rate of 135.96 in 217 innings. His best score is 84, and he has scored 24 half-centuries. Chennai Super Kings have qualified for the IPL 2023 finals. They have done it again. Dhoni & Co have a knack for making superb comebacks following every flop season. In 2020, they were at the bottom of the table and then in 2021, they won the title for the 4th time. 2022 was underwhelming and they bounced back stronger in 2023 and are now through to the finals once again.
Batting first on their home ground, Chennai Super Kings got off to a strong start, thanks to their opening batsmen who provided an early advantage against Gujarat. Ruturaj Gaikwad played a crucial role in CSK’s aggressive batting display by smashing yet another half-century. He faced 44 deliveries and scored 60 runs before becoming the first CSK batsman to be dismissed. Gaikwad’s innings had a strike rate of 136.36 and included seven boundaries and one six. Devon Conway also contributed with 40 runs off 34 balls.
Gujarat Titans’ bowlers made some breakthroughs with Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma taking two wickets each, while Darshan Nalkande, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmed claimed one wicket each. Their efforts aimed to restrict CSK’s scoring and create opportunities for a comeback.

IPL 2023: GT to wear lavender jersey against SRH to create awareness regarding cancer

The Gujarat Titans emerged champions in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team has decided to wear a lavender jersey during their last home match of the ongoing IPL season. The Hardik Pandya-led team will be seen in lavender jerseys on 15 May encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The aim behind wearing this costume is to create awareness regarding the critical issue of cancer, which has been responsible for the deaths of a huge number of people across the world, including in India.

The lavender colour has been chosen because it symbolises all kinds of cancer and serves as a reminder for those who are suffering from this devastating disease. The Gujarat Titans like to raise awareness about its early detection and prevention; a healthy lifestyle can play a key role in fighting against cancer, as per a press release from the team.

Colonel Arvinder Singh, COO of the Gujarat Titans, stated, “Cancer causes millions of deaths worldwide and has a devastating impact on patients and their families. Our team is committed to driving positive change and contributing to the global fight against cancer.”

Cancer is the second-most common cause of death globally; in 2020, about 9.9 million people had lost their lives due to cancer. The rate of cancer has gone up in the last decade, resulting in a 21 percent increase in deaths.

Even in India, there is a chance that one of the nine is likely to be affected by cancer. The country recorded 14.16 lakh cancer patients in 2022, which is expected to go up at a rate of 12.8 percent by 2025 compared to 2020.

Lucknow Super Giants win toss, choose to bowl against Gujarat Titans

Lucknow Super Giants captain Krunal Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first against Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League 2023 match here at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

“We will bowl first. It’s a dream come true for us to lead our respective sides. Overall, the wicket will play the same. We have a good batting side, and we fancy our chance to chase down the total. We have played good cricket, and we stand at a good stage in the points table,” Krunal Pandya said confidently.

The Lucknow Super Giants have included wicket-keeper batsman De Kock in their playing XI, while Naveen misses out. Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans skipper, Hardik Pandya, expressed his preference to bat first but was content with the outcome of the toss.

“We would have batted. I got what I wanted. It’s an emotional day; our father would have been proud. This is something happening for the first time, so our family is proud. One Pandya will definitely win today. It’s about expressing ourselves and not worrying about the result. The fear of failure might creep in, but we need to play good cricket. IPL 2023: GT skipper Hardik Pandya fined for slow overrate

Slow overrate proved dear for Gujarat Titans (GT). The skipper of the team, Hardik Pandya, has been fined Rs 12 lakh for the slow overrate of his team during the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Punjab Kings at the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday.

It was the first infringement of GT of this season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum overrate offences. The IPL has set the time that a match would be finished at three hours and twenty minutes, but some matches have crossed the time limit and went over four hours amid slow overrate.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans registered a comfortable six-wicket win over Punjab Kings on Thursday. Shubman Gill played a fine knock of 49 balls 67 runs, and Mohit Sharma grabbed 2/18, which helped GT cross the line comfortably.

Mohit Sharma was declared the player of the match for his superb bowling performance in the match.
