Their wedding took place at a Shiva Temple in Deoria, symbolizing a fresh start filled with peace and love.
</excerpt>

In a daring move against domestic violence, two women, Kavita and Gunja, from the city of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, left their abusive and alcohol-addicted husbands and chose to marry each other. The marriage, as a symbol of resilience and peace, took place on Thursday at the Shiva Temple in Deoria, locally known as Choti Kashi.

Kavita and Gunja, who share the experience of harassment and abuse, say that they took this decision after years of humiliation. The two women met on Instagram and found comfort and support in each other and decided to marry each other.

“We were tormented by our husbands’ drinking and abusive behavior. This pushed us to choose a life of peace and love. We have decided to live in Gorakhpur as a couple and work to sustain ourselves,” Gunja said, sharing their motivation to start anew.

Modern Love Story

On their wedding day, Gunja became the groom. Firstly, they performed the rituals by applying sindoor (vermillion) to Kavita’s forehead, then exchanged garlands, and finally took the seven pheras. Temple priest Uma Shankar Pandey said, “The couple quietly completed the rituals and left with their vows of love and commitment.”.

The couple will rent a room in Gorakhpur and, consequently, begin their life as married people, free from violence.

Wider Context: Insight into Domestic Violence

This case highlights widespread domestic violence. Earlier this month, police in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli arrested a woman who strangled her abusive husband to death last September. According to reports, Bimla Devi revealed that her habitual-drinking husband tortured her for the past eight years.

Both stories underscore the immediate need for greater awareness and measures to address domestic violence, enabling victims to break free from such situations and begin anew.

</excerpt>

On Saturday, Gorakhpur Lok Sabha candidate Ravi Kishan arrived at a polling booth in Gorakhpur and queued up in line to cast his vote, emphasising that politicians are “servants of the public, not VIPs”.

Kishan said that he was propagating the idea of PM Modi to end the VVIP culture in India.

“This is what our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taught us that we are servants of the public, we are not VIPs. As soon as PM Modi came, he ended the VIP culture in India by ending the concept of red beacons. When your head is so grounded, then you should remain a common man too. I hold no position above others now and prefer to stay humble. PM Modi has vanished the VIP culture in India and changed the politics of the nation. This is our culture and we should follow it,” Ravi Kishan told ANI.

“I have cast my vote for Viksit Bharat, Ram Rajya and to make India a “Vishwa guru”, Kishan said after casting his vote.
Earlier, in a video message on X, Kishan urged the voters to cast their vote in the “festival of democracy”.

“Friends, you all will be aware that today voting is being held in Gorakhpur under the seventh phase of Lok Sabha general elections. On this occasion, I humbly request all of you, the God-like voters who are the destiny makers of Gorakhpur, to exercise your right to vote in this great festival of democracy by discharging your duty as an aware voter,” Kishan wrote in a post on X.

“Every vote of yours is important and it will decide the future of your Lok Sabha and the country, therefore I once again appeal to all of you to participate enthusiastically in this festival of democracy,” he added.

Gorakpur-based BJP Lok Sabha candidate Ravi Kishan is up against Javed Ashraf of the BSP and Kajal Nishad of the SP. Ravi Kishan is relying on CM Yogi’s backing, as he represented Gorakhpur in the Lok Sabha for five terms.

Prior to this, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath supported BJP candidate Ravi Kishan in Gorakhpur by doing a roadshow.

With a margin of 3,01,664 votes, Kishan defeated Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Rambhual Nishad in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
</excerpt>

In a swift response to the recent ban on Halal-certified food items in Uttar Pradesh, authorities conducted raids at City Mall and AD Mall in Gorakhpur. The raids, led by Chief Food Information Officer Hitendra Mohan Tripathi, aimed to ensure compliance with the state government’s prohibition on the production, storage, distribution, and sale of food products with Halal certification. This decisive action comes on the heels of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s order, reflecting a zero-tolerance policy against the illegal issuance of such certificates.

Tripathi stated that the crackdown was prompted by a tip about Halal-certified food items entering the market, which the state government had prohibited. The raids, which took place at seven to eight different locations, yielded no Halal-certified items. Officials, however, emphasized their commitment to prohibiting such products if discovered during subsequent inspections.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak reaffirmed the government’s unwavering stance against crime and corruption, indicating a similar resolve in dealing with the sale of Halal-certified foods. The ban, which takes effect immediately, demonstrates the state’s proactive approach to implementing the directive. This action is consistent with the government’s determination to strictly enforce the ban and maintain law and order in the state.

The crackdown demonstrates Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to upholding cultural and dietary preferences while maintaining a strong stance against unauthorized certifications in the food industry.
