</excerpt>

The Pakistan Army had made an effort to strike at Golden Temple in Amritsar with long-range missiles and drones during the night of May 7-8 after Indian troops eliminated terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor, but the enemy was unable to break through India’s strong air defence (AD) shield, a senior army official asserted on Monday.

Golden Temple Was a Prime Target: Indian Army

It was a prime objective for the Pakistan Army, stated Major General Kartik C Seshadri, who’s leading an infantry division in Amritsar.

“Knowing that the Pakistan Army does not have any legitimate targets, we anticipated it will target Indian military installations and civilian areas including religious places. Of these, Golden Temple appeared to be the most prominent (target). We also received credible intelligence that it was a prime target, which we had brainstormed earlier,” he told news agency ANI.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Response to Pahalgam Terror Attack by Pakistan

Operation Sindoor, launched in the early morning hours of May 7, was India’s reaction to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Modern AD assets were rapidly deployed to grant a strong AD umbrella to the Sikh shrine, he asserted.

“In the hours of darkness, Pakistan carried out a massive air assault with drones and long-range missiles. We were fully prepared since we had anticipated this. Our alert army air defence gunners thwarted Pakistan Army’s nefarious designs and shot down all drones and missiles targeted at the Golden Temple. Thus, not allowing even a scratch to our holy Golden Temple,” Seshadri added.

Four Days of Escalation Ends With Ceasefire

Operation Sindoor precipitated four days of strikes and counterstrikes with drones, missiles and long-range weapons before the two sides came to an agreement on halting all military activity on May 10.

Between the start of the operation and the ceasefire, Indian forces bombed nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK and killed at least 100 terrorists, and the Indian Air Force attacked targets at 13 Pakistani airbases and military installations.

Retaliatory Strikes of Pakistan Thwarted by India’s AD Network

By 8.30pm on May 7, Islamabad made aerial strikes in the form of drone and missile attacks on several towns and cities, including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Pathankot, Phalodi, Uttarlai, Nal and Bhuj. India’s AD systems repelled all the attacks.

India’s multi-layered AD network was impenetrable, said officials. It broke through several waves of Pakistani attacks on Indian military bases, airbases and populated areas by ensuring quick detection and engagement of the attacking threats. India’s AD systems, integrating the resources of the IAF, army and navy, functioned with uncharacteristic synergy, the information and broadcasting ministry stated last week.

Overview of India’s Air Defence Arsenal

India’s AD grid functioned on several weapons on four levels, depending on the range of the approaching target. The weapons that were part of the grid include the S-400 system, medium-range surface to air missile system (Barak 8), the Pechora air defense system, Spyder quick-reaction missiles, and advanced L-70 and Zu-23-2B guns.

The nine terror camps targeted by the Indian forces using a combination of missiles and smart ammunition were Markaz Subhanallah in Bahawalpur, Markaz Taiba on the outskirts of Muridke, Mehmoona Joya in Sialkot, Sawai Nala and Syed Na Bilal in Muzaffarabad, Gulpur and Abbas in Kotli, Barnala in Bhimber, and Sarjal.

The IAF attacked positions in Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Chunian, Pasrur, Sialkot, Skardu, Sargodha, Jacobabad, Bholari and Malir Cantt in Karachi.

</excerpt>

In clear acts of bravery and valour, the armed forces safeguarded many cities in the border states of India during the recent conflict with Pakistan, which witnessed drone attacks and another form of air assault that were intercepted and destroyed before they could destroy civil establishments.

The Indian Army’s Air defence systems played a critical role in repelling Pakistan’s misadventures. The Army on Monday showcased a demonstration of how Indian Air Defence systems, including AKASH missile system, L-70 Air Defence Guns, saved the Golden Temple in Amritsar and cities of Punjab from Pakistani missile and drone attacks.

Major General Kartik C Seshadri, GOC (General Officer Commanding) 15 Infantry Division, said that the Indian army had anticipated Pakistan’s move to target its military installations along with civilian establishments here, including religious places such as the Golden Temple, which was the prime target according to information received from the intelligence.

“Knowing that the Pak Army does not have any legitimate targets, we anticipated that they would target Indian military installations, civilian targets, including religious places. Of these, the Golden Temple appeared to be the most prominent. We mobilised additional modern air defence assets to give a holistic air defence umbrella cover to Golden Temple,” Major General Seshadri said.

He stated that Pakistan engaged in an air assault with aerial weapons, including drones and long-range missiles, targeting the Golden Temple, which was “thwarted” by the army personnel, who remained prepared for such situations and attacks.

“On 8th May early morning, in the hours of darkness, Pakistan carried out a massive air assault with unmanned aerial weapons, primarily drones and long-range missiles. We were fully prepared since we had anticipated this, and our braveheart and alert army air defence gunners thwarted Pakistan Army’s nefarious designs and shot down all drones and missiles targeted at the Golden Temple. Thus, not allowing even a scratch to come on our holy Golden Temple,” Major General Seshadri said.

The GOC 15 Infantry Division explained in detail the consequences of the Pahalgam terror attack, which prompted the launch of Operation Sindoor, where India attacked nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan’s territory, resulting in aggression from the Pakistani side.

“Consequent to the Pak Army-sponsored dastardly terrorist attack on innocent tourists, both domestic and international, the nation’s anger under able leadership took the form of Operation Sindoor, wherein befitting punitive strikes were carried out on exclusive terror targets. Nine targets were hit. Of the nine targets, seven were exclusively destroyed by the Indian Army,” Major General Seshadri told ANI.

The Major General said that the armed forces targeted many places with “absolute precision” during Operation Sindoor, striking areas like Muridke and Bahawalpur, which house the headquarters of terrorist organisations.

“Of these (nine) targets, Muridke, which is in proximity to Lahore, houses the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba headquarters and also the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters at Bahawalpur, which were struck with absolute precision. Soon after the strikes, we issued a statement clarifying that we intentionally did not target any Pakistani military or civilian infrastructure,” he added.

India’s Air Defence Systems proved their prowess at the height of the tensions between the two neighbours, intercepting numerous drones, missiles, micro UAVs, and loitering munitions, emerging as a globally actionable defence asset.

</excerpt>

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal performed ‘seva’ at Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib on Thursday, just a day after surviving an assassination attempt at the Golden Temple. The assailant, identified as Narain Singh Chaura, attempted to shoot Badal while he was engaged in ‘seva’, but the attack was thwarted, and the assailant was quickly apprehended.

Badal’s act of ‘seva’ comes after he was declared a ‘tankhaiya’

Badal’s act of ‘seva’ comes after he was declared a ‘tankhaiya’ (guilty of religious misconduct) by the Akal Takht in August, due to “mistakes” and “decisions” made by the SAD-led government in Punjab from 2007 to 2017. As part of his punishment, Badal was seen washing utensils at the Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib, with family members joining him in the service.

Following the attack, Bikram Singh Majithia, General Secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal, criticized the Punjab Police, particularly SP Harpal Singh Randhawa, who was captured on CCTV shaking hands with the attacker, Narain Singh Chaura. Majithia stated, “Sukhbir Singh Badal is alive today by the grace of God… Yesterday, I released a video of SP-level officer Harpal Singh Randhawa shaking hands with Narain Singh Chaura. Have we ever seen a police officer shaking hands with an ISI agent? Punjab Police has launched a cover-up operation, and the High Court or Supreme Court should investigate this matter.”

Majithia also aimed Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar for suggesting that Badal might have orchestrated the incident to gain sympathy. He accused Bhullar of making such remarks to protect his position and cover up his failures.

Police sources revealed that the attacker, Narain Singh Chaura, is a hardened terrorist who had returned from Pakistan and previously led the Akal Federation. He has authored books on guerrilla warfare and has been involved in smuggling weapons and explosives into Punjab during the early years of militancy. A senior official noted that Chaura had crossed into Pakistan in 1984 and maintained contact with radical organizations in Punjab during his time there.

According to Amritsar Police, Chaura has multiple cases registered against him. “There are several cases registered against him; arms were recovered from him in the past, and we will have to check records,” stated Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

The assassination attempt on Badal has drawn condemnation from multiple political leaders. The Congress party criticized the Punjab government for negligence regarding security, while the Bharatiya Janata Party described the incident as indicative of a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.

Chandigarh: Less than 12 hours after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked near the Golden Temple, another alarming event shook Amritsar district. A powerful explosion was reported outside the Majitha Police Station in Amritsar Rural Police District around 10:00 PM on Wednesday.

Second Blast in a Week Raises Alarms
This marks the second explosion in Amritsar within a week, following a blast at the deserted Gurbaksh Nagar Police Chowki in Ajnala. The latest incident has intensified security concerns, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement agencies to address the growing tension in the region.

Police and Officials Rush to the Scene
Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Charanjit Singh, along with senior officials, arrived at the site to assess the situation. Investigators are working to determine if there is a connection between the two blasts, which have heightened fears of a potential coordinated attack.

Tensions Escalate in Amritsar
The consecutive blasts, coupled with the earlier attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, have triggered widespread concern over public safety in the district. Authorities are intensifying security around vulnerable spots to prevent further incidents.

Police Begin Investigation
Treating the Majitha Police Station explosion as a grave matter, Punjab Police have deployed forensic teams to collect evidence. The recurring nature of these events is being closely examined to ascertain whether they are part of a larger plot to destabilize the region.

Restricted Media Access
No official statement has been issued yet. Following the blast, the gates of the Majitha Police Station were closed, barring media access to the site. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.

</excerpt>

A shocking incident took place near the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Wednesday, as Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. The attack took place when Badal was on his duties as a sewadar. Badal was sitting in a wheelchair, but he was safe as the bullet fired at him hit a wall.

Immediately, individuals present at the scene subdued the assailant as identified to be Narain Singh Chaura. He happens to be a former Khalistani militant with a rather checkered past involved in such high-profile and contentious criminal activities.

Who is Narain Singh Chaura?

Narain Singh Chaura belongs to the Dera Baba Nanak area and has been a militant and an active Panthic leader. He was also the mastermind behind the notorious Burail jailbreak, helping Babbar Khalsa International terrorists, Jagtar Singh Hawara, and Paramjit Singh Bheora, escape custody by cutting off the jail’s electricity supply.

Details of the Incident

The event occurred when Chaura was facing Sukhbir Singh Badal and tried to fire at him. Just before that, a sewadar from the nearby vicinity tried to push Chaura’s hand upwards, resulting in the shot missing its mark. The eyewitnesses even sighted Chaura dressed in a white kurta-pajama loitering around Badal a day prior to the attack, which indicates some forethought.

Security Concerns Raised

This brazen attack heightened security concerns in the area, especially around high-profile leaders. Authorities are examining Chaura’s motive and how he was able to execute this attempted attack close to one of Punjab’s holiest places.

The escape of Sukhbir Singh Badal has relieved his supporters; however, the incident represents a reminder that the issue with keeping the area secure has still not been fully solved.

</excerpt>

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has filed a police complaint against Instagram influencer Archana Makwana for performing yoga at Sri Darbar Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, in Amritsar. This incident, which occurred on June 21, the International Day of Yoga, has sparked outrage within the Sikh community. The SGPC, responsible for the management of the Golden Temple, has taken disciplinary action against three employees for allowing Makwana to conduct yoga exercises in the ‘Parikrama’ area, a marble walkway where devotees traditionally circumambulate, pray, and pay their respects.

SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami condemned the incident, stating that it disregarded the sanctity of the holy place and hurt Sikh sentiments. He emphasized the respect that the Golden Temple holds among Sikhs worldwide, and expressed disappointment that Makwana did not show reverence during her time at the temple. Following widespread criticism and public outcry, Makwana issued a public apology for her actions.

Golden Temple General Manager Bhagwant Singh Dhangera confirmed that Makwana had indeed performed yoga after entering the premises early in the morning, spending nearly an hour in the ‘Parikrama’ area without observing the required reverence. The SGPC, often referred to as the ‘Mini Parliament’ of Sikhism, has initiated an inquiry into the matter to investigate further and ensure such incidents do not recur.

The most wonderful man whose quiet strength would be calming, peaceful and inspiring. His support, humour, wit and friendship are pure joy. He is my home. Our engagement party was like living a dream – a dream unfurling beautifully amidst love, laughter, emotion and loads of dancing! DCP (Law and order) Parminder Singh Bhandal said that police in civil dress have been deployed as well. The city has been sealed to prevent any untoward incident, he said, adding that adequate police personnel has been posted at various spots in the city.
Meanwhile, prayers are going on as usaul at Sri Darbar Sahib.
Earlier Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Arpit Shukla had mentioned that security arrangements have been put in place across Punjab. Central forces have also been deployed, she said. “I appeal the people to maintain peace in the state and action will be taken against those who spread rumors.”
June 6, 1984 marked the day when the Indian Army, under Operation Blue Star, stormed into the Golden Temple on orders of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to contain Sikh militancy under the leadership of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab. It was informed that Bhindranwale had stashed large quantities of arms in the Golden Temple premises.A lot of people criticised The Operation. </excerpt>

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has lost all moral authority to remain in office, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Friday following repeated blast incidents in the vicinity of the Golden Temple here.
In less than a week, three explosions have taken place in Amritsar. The third explosion occurred on Wednesday midnight in Galiara, the pathway and park around the Golden Temple, behind the Guru Ramdas Ji Niwas building.
Interacting with reporters, the SAD chief said, “Instead of paying a visit here and taking stock of the situation, the chief minister had been busy in cheap PR stunts.” “He even ordered ‘Operation Vigil’ on the border as part of this publicity drive but did not intensify efforts to nail down culprits bent on spoiling the peace and stoking communal passions in the holy city here,” Badal said. The chief minister has lost all moral authority to remain in office, he said, adding that in Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple), which was venerated across the world, was not safe then nothing was safe in Punjab.
Badal accused the chief minister of failing as a home minister by failing to carry out an intense drive to arrest the culprits. “Even this responsibility was fulfilled by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee which nabbed the culprits responsible for the blast incidents,” he claimed. Claiming that the recent events point to a “complete intelligence failure”, Badal said, “It has been made worse by an administrative collapse. The state is no longer able to safeguard the life and property of its people. This has led to a sense of insecurity among the people and caused loss to hoteliers and businesses, particularly in the holy city.”

India proudly wears the moniker “incredible” since it has countless reasons to earn it. The top 5 largest kitchens in the nation and the method of feeding people in the most pure and humane way further enhance its distinctiveness.

Dharmasthala (Karnataka)

Feeding 50,000 people per day, that too with environmentally friendly methods using bio-gas, is a startling task. The most eccentric temple in India is the Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple in Dharmasthala, which is devoted to Lord Shiva but whose priests are Vaishnava and whose management is handled by the Jain Heggade family. The Bhagavan Baahubali statue is the main draw to the temple town of Dharmasthala, and the temple also houses one of India’s Mega Kitchens.

Shirdi (Maharashtra)

Shirdi, Maharashtra’s Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust is home to one of India’s largest solar kitchens, which has three mammoth kitchen halls. Every day, 40,000 meals and breakfast packs are prepared in Shirdi, Maharashtra, in a gigantic kitchen. The building, which features a statue of Sai Baba and a cooking pot at the entryway, is powered by 73 big solar panels and can accommodate 3200 people for a free dinner at once. There is another seating area, though, where people who don’t feel comfortable mingling with the crowds can order the meal of their choice and pay for it.

Jagaenath Temple( Puri)

The Hindu belief suggests the universe’s Lord is Sri Jagannath. The biggest and largest kitchen in the world is thought to be his. It is located in the southeast corner of Srimandir’s outer compound. The kitchen is approximately 20 feet tall, 150 feet long, and 100 feet wide. It has 250 earthen ovens spread out over 32 rooms. Every day, some 600 cooks (Suaras) and 400 assistants work here to prepare the Lord’s food. The kitchen of Srimandir has three different types of hearths, including Anna Chuli, Ahia Chuli, and Pitha Chuli. On the days of major festivals, one to ten million people are accommodated and fed. As a result, the Lord Jagannath temple kitchen is regarded as the largest in the world, feeding everyone without reservations or advance notice.

Golden Temple (Punjab)

The largest free kitchen in the world is in the Golden Temple Langar. This food hall serves 100,000 people free meals every day and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.Furthermore, on holy days, that number can quadruple.Since the advent of Sikhism, community kitchens, or langar, have gained popularity throughout South Asia. Additionally, since 1577, meals have been available at the Golden Temple’s Langar.

Akshaya Patra

Located in Hubli, Karnataka, the ISCKON Foundations Akshaya Patra is a nonprofit institution. It is known to produce meals for close to 150,000 people in under five hours. Thousands of children attending rural schools receive meals through the largest school lunch programme run by ISCKON. The meals come in hygienic, nutritional containers.
